Personally, when I’d use phalanx strength would depend on what dungeon I’m running. If I’m in Arah, there’s no way I’d do anything other than 65003 because there’s a good chance that I’ll have to solo things while everyone’s wiped. I know it sounds selfish, but I’ve come to not trust anyone unless they’re part of a guild I know or are a personal friend. Other dungeons where I don’t care as much? Probably run phalanx.
If Iris ever gets around to putting me up as an Arah mentor…. Sheesh ;P
Mentor name: IvanTheGrey.2941 Call me Ivan or Dan. Either one. Just don’t call me Shirley. (if you get that, you’re automatically awesome)
Active Dungeon(s): Arah. I spend WAAAAAY too much time in Arah. I can help w/ other dungeons, but I would leave that to more qualified people.
Availibility: 1700 PST-2000 PST M-F More time on the weekends.
Language: Solamente puedo a hablar chino. (English w/ a tiny bit of spanish and VERY rusty italian)
Communication: In game, TS or Mumble. All I ask is that you listen.
I love Arah and I love to teach it. I’ll take you through any path from duoing to a full party. Doesn’t matter. I can coach you on Lupi and Arah in general. I won’t teach you the exploits, i.e. jumping puzzles (if you wanna do them, you need to look them up, and tbh, I suck at jumping) or terrain bugs or anything like that. I will teach you all the intricacies of every boss in the dungeon, as well as trash skipping. I don’t care what class you are or your build. I will be only showing you melee tactics however, so be prepared for that.
Come with a good attitude and a desire to get better and we’ll have a lot of fun. Learn from your mistakes, ask questions, fix things. I will quiz you as we go along, as active learning sticks in your head much better than hearing me talk.
One final thing: I will NOT be your duo partner. If you contact me to learn Arah, I will be overjoyed to teach you, but I will not help you sell the path. I do not want to profit from teaching, and I’m not bringing you through the path for the sole purpose of making you money at the end. If you tell me that you want to, for example, duo p2 and sell the final spots at the end, our session will be over. If you want to learn the path to sell it on your own, all the power to you, and I will help you learn it to the point that you can.
See you in game!

I wish you nothing but the best! May RNG be forever in your favor!
Obal, I don’t know if you still look @ this sticky, but what builds are people using for off wall, no reflects Lupi solos? I see a bunch of perma-vigor solos, but don’t know how to get it myself.
Thanks!
It’s not the amount, as I’ve made it up in other investments/flipping, it’s just the moral of it for me. I don’t want anyone to get manipulated is all.
A couple of months ago, I was really looking into how to make a lot of money on the tp, like most of you here on this forum. I did the usual thing: Youtube, Google, etc. I wanted to be lazy and have someone tell me what markets to buy into, so I subscribed to a blog that gave out specific tips.
A couple of weeks ago, I got an email saying “BUY UP ORICHALCUM ORE” for “JEWELCRAFTING 500”, with some mathematical reason how there’d only be a very limited amount, and prices would go through the roof, and pointed to the “evidence” that orichalcum had recently gone above 6 silver a piece. “Rockin’!”, I said to myself, “This is exactly what I’m looking for!!!” I bought up 5-6 stacks of orichalcum, and even told some of my dungeon forum buddies to do the same.
Update comes: Nope.
Next one: Nope.
LS Season 2: Nope.
Orichalcum goes down, and I’m still sitting on stacks that I purchased at a bit over 6 silver. Crap.
Moral of the story: If you ask someone what markets to buy into and they tell you, they’re most likely manipulating you. Do your own research. Watch vedordra’s stream. gw2tp.net. Microsoft Excel. Eggbaron.
Don’t ask specific questions, because you might get specific answers, and you’re almost guaranteed to lose money.
It’s totally easy though. Like, almost as easy as it was. One attack to deal with. Heard a rumor that Lupi changed. Looking into it now.
I take that back.
He’ll just knock you down no matter where you’re at.
Nope. Ooze still isn’t patched. My bad for starting that one. Miku, you have youtube of you fighting ooze legit? I wanna learn how.
Stacking is a symptom, not the issue. It’s a result of enemies not being a threat.

This is true. Some min/maxers take it way to personal.I don’t think that this is the case. I think the reason that we jump on people who make these kind of threads is because we literally see them popping up every couple of days. After the 15000000th thread of it, and 98% of them not understanding why stacking is a thing, we get rather annoyed rather quickly.
Also, adding to Wethospu’s point: Stacking is a symptom of content that has fostered stagnation and wallowing in mediocrity. Things haven’t changed significantly in dungeons since release, so why should strategies change? They’ve proven very effective thus far, and the vast majority of the player base wants things spoon fed to them by us, DnT, rT, SC and the like. They’re not coming up with better strategies, faster, and “safer” ways to do things. Why would they? Rewards are the same. Risk is less. Less QQing from PuGs. There simply is no reason to change as of yet.
but but but… Many of the 959846 threads about it are actually asking for things to change so we can change this boring strategy as well, I don’t know why some players take it against the players instead of actually reading what they are asking for
Fair, but then there are the 1000s of QQing threads that come after something gets changed. Looking forward to the “Ooze can’t be fought anymore” QQ threads. Should be interesting.
Arah p1 ooze: Coral spot patched. Confirmed PuG killer.

Is there a way to drastically lower the amount of spell effects that are displayed? Having a hard time reading tells when the boss is covered in guardian’s burning or other such thing and my mouse isn’t directly over it.
I honestly can’t believe the amount of BHB on here now. Wow….
I think that this tournament is going to bring the BHBs out of the woodwork. Amazing job yesterday all. Was an absolute blast, and can’t wait to do it again. Great commentary too!
GG SC! You rocked! *smh… 40 sec wait for fgs….
GG FGS! We tried our best
Ahem…. I’ve never done this kind of thing before, but here it goes.
Hi.
My name is Dan, and I’m a Lupiholic.
I see him with friends and I see him alone. I’ve taken to doing DR runs of Arah to see him. I join PuGs to see him. I join “12300000+ AP REQUIRED SPEED RUN” LFGs to see him. I join PuGs, finish him off solo and leave just to see him.
I know admitting it is half the battle, and here I am…. Admitting my Lupi addiction.
Wisp, why don’t you bring a group of 5 eles, all get FGS and sweep the tournament by stacking in a corner. I’m sure Nemis will join you in the “skill-less PvE” tournament that I’m sure you could win without any effort at all. Who needs training? You certainly don’t seem like you need any by what you say. I mean, you cried to support saying that the tournament would be made trivial by stacking, skipping and FGS rush into the corner. Why don’t you show us what you mean?
As for calling out LuPi, meh. It’s Nike’s tournament and he can call people out how he wants.
If I am not practicing for the tourney(which I should), count me in for NA fractals.
We better be practicing, especially after what you told me today!
Wow, I can’t believe that they dropped out because of that. I understand if someone leaves because their team can’t get together on that day or something, but…? Really? Come on all, this isn’t World Cup. It’s a FUN dungeon tourney. We’re trying our best on the [noob] team, even when we thought we were going against the bulldozer M1 Abrams tanks that is the rT team.
We HAVE to be united on this. The rest of the GW2 community is watching us, waiting for us to fail. The dungeon runners are the underdogs. Let’s go have FUN showing what we do best!!
If that’s not what you were going for in the first place, then I apologize for jumping on it and misunderstanding. We’ve had hundreds of threads on that topic, and when another one pops up, it’s quite frustrating.
No, I said that in a hard mode, mobs shouldn’t simply reset like they forgot about you completely. You want to skip them? do it, avoid their aggro range, use invis, teleport, w/e that works better for you. But when I think on a hard mode dungeon, I wouldn’t call it hard if I can just run 10 meters and call it a day (unless there are specific scenarios where you lock a door behind you as one example and you lost the mobs behind you, that would actually help the immersion).
Ok. That’s totally fair, and I apologize for the misunderstanding.
not a problem mate, ill edit my previous posts
It’s ok. I deserve to be called out for jumping the gun like that.

Mobs never resetting until dead would be another improvement for a hard mode. It’s a dungeon after all, not the open world.
That would be very similar to how WoW has it’s dungeons setup, and I think it fixes the speed run boss to boss skip, I think it would be an improvement.
well… Wow… it is how almost every MMO has its dungeon mobs designed since your are playing at their house, you wouldn’t escape that easy while invading unless there is a spot specifically designed to hide from them.
Cleverly disguised no stacking, skipping post. Inb4 BINGO
You must’ve been the brightest kid in the kinder. You also learned to repeat Bingo. /clap for you.
Oh look! It’s the guy that posted this in the main discussion forums hoping for…. what exactly? You’re obviously not bright enough to observe that ANET has not said ANYTHING about stacking in the years since it’s release.
Everyone’s for harder dungeons, but the second that you bring up no stacking/skipping, you ruin any idea of credibility that you might have. Play how you want, no stacking, no skipping, just don’t try to enforce your ideas on the rest of us. We don’t enforce them on you if you put “No stacking/skipping” into your LFG. If you can’t find pugs that don’t conform to your ideology, join PASSS (I think that’s their name), and all the power to you.
All the time.

My favourite thing to see when I’m pugging arah :*
I think I might be masochistic..
I ran with a DnT guy (don’t remember his name) and he was camping water the whole time. We duo’d lupi and he didn’t dodge once (on purpose). We had a great laugh about it during… Negative DPS. It was the funnest Lupi fight I’ve had in a while
I think it took as long as it used to when we all ran around like chickens w/ our heads cut off ranging him and praying not to die. So much fun.
Phase 3 is all about rotations imo. For the single target life drain, dodge forward, then back and get on gs. AA until he does his barrage (if off wall) and gs3 through it. Switch to axe/sword and do axe2, sword 4 and AA until he does his Aoe life drain. Dodge back once and sword 5 until out of the aoe. Bid your time w/ axe 3 and walk in and eviscerate him (unless you’re going for speed). That’ll give you back most of your bar.
If you’re camping gs, dodge once and wwa out of the aoe. Gs4 when out and when he touches down, gs 5 to rush him. When you get to him, weapon swap and you’ll have almost, if not completely, full endurance. Rinse, repeat ad nauseaum. This hasn’t failed for me yet.
Still trying to work on phase 1-phase 2 transition w/o balanced stance.
Working on something from Rigoletto, but it’ll take time.
PuGLOCK
That’s another dungeon I’ve ran!—a staff guardian, a cleric, who now has to hide his head on the graves of Arah, a pug who used to look so smug in front of the other anti-berserkers. Let him think about his own utterly miserable dps. He liked to call me an elitist; let him think about his debt to me in carrying him past Lupicus. He used to speak so highly of his skill as a favor between forum goers; but now, let him think about his own debt.
I’ll use his tears for fish bait. You can’t drink tears, but if it feeds nothing else, it’ll feed my laughter. He’s insulted me and cost me hours of frustration. He’s laughed at my attempts to make him see the futility of clerics, made fun of my berserker’s gear, attempted to humiliate my fellow berserkers, thwarted my attempts at logic, turned ANet developers against me, riled up my enemies—and why? Because I’m a Berserker. Does not a Berserker have HP? Does not a Berserker have Power, Precision, Ferocity, 10 skills on the skill bar, dodge button, and consumables? Does not a Berserker kill the same mobs, get hurt with the same Agony, get sick with the same poison, get healed by the same utility skill, and warm up in the glow of shines and cool off in the lack of dev communication like a staff guardian, bearbow ranger or rifle wielding warrior? If you prick us with torment, do we not bleed? If you knock us down, do we not get up? If you poison us, do we not use condi cleanse? And if you insist that the game isn’t meant to be played by only beserkers, will we not try to make you see reason? If we’re like you in everything else, we’ll resemble you in that respect. If a berserker offends a cleric guardian, bearbow ranger or rifle warrior, what is their kind and gentle reaction? Revenge. If a one of those offends a berserker, what punishment will he come up with if he follows the cleric guardian, bearbow ranger or rifle warrior’s example? Of course, the same thing—revenge! I’ll treat you as badly as you taught me to—and you’ll be lucky if I don’t outdo my teachers.
Much ado about staff guardians
I do much wonder that one guardian, seeing how much another is
A success when he or she dedicates his behaviors
To maximize efficiency and dps , will, after he hath
Laughed at such perceived shallow follies in others,
Become the argument of his own scorn by failing in the very same pursuit:
And such a player is one who carries on as a staff guardian.
I have known when there was no skill with him
Save for the 12 stacks of might and pitiful healing
That was granted onto fellow players that did not stack might;
And now had he rather hear the sound of his own minuscule voice
Proclaiming that staff guardian is useful
outside of open world PvE farming
and Twilight Arbor :
I have known when he would have solely used his staff auto attack to
Prune the venomous leaves in the abode of the Nightmare;
And now will he lie ten nights awake,
Arguing with better players about his relevance.
He was wont to speak plain and to the purpose,
like an honest newbie or one who was trying to be better;
And now is he turned wormtongued ;
his words are a very fantastical banquet of rhetorical instances,
Just so many strange dishes of fantastical conclusions and leaps of logic.
May I be so converted and see with these eyes?
I cannot tell;
I think not:
I will not be sworn, but the almighty hand of the Berserker
may transform me to an oyster;
but I’ll take my oath on it,
till he have made an oyster of me,
he shall never make me such a fool.
One guardian wields dual staves , yet I am well;
Another spends hours at being my nemesis, yet I am well;
Another pretentious, yet I am well;
but till all graces be in one armor set,
only its ascended quality shall come in my grace.
Powerful it shall be, that’s certain;
Precise, or I’ll none;
Ferocious, or I’ll never cheapen it;
Fair in form and in dye, or I’ll never look on it;
Of great value, lacking the binding of soul,
and its hue shall be of what colour it please the first wife.
Ha! The Prince and Monsieur Berserker!
I will hide me in the hallowed arms of the Trinity
And pray to it every day
For its blessings are great.
Othello-
And what’s he then that says I play the villain?
When this advice is free I give and honest,
Probal to thinking and indeed the course
To win the DPS race again? For ‘tis most easy
The inclining staff guardian to subdue
In any honest suit: it’s framed as
The ease of breathing air. And then for it
To win the DPS race—were’t to renounce its lack of dps,
All useless utility skills,
That it may pug, run with guildees, do what it list,
Even as its appetite for superiority shall play the god
With its weak function. How am I then a villain
To counsel all potential dungeon runners to this parallel course,
Directly to their good? Divinity of hell!
When devils will the blackest sins put on,
They do suggest at first with heavenly shows,
Of stories of camaraderie in dungeons,
Of helping stack might to 25,
Of granting swiftness while’st skipping,
As I do now: for whiles this honest fool
Plies the staff guardian to repair his fortunes
And it for relevance in dungeons pleads strongly to the Berserker,
I’ll pour this pestilence into his ear,
And by how much it strives to do groups good,
Staff guardian shall undo its credit with the forum goers.
So will I turn its fictitious virtue into pitch,
And out of its own pretentiousness make the net
That shall enmesh them all.
We got John Smith to actually visit the trashcan!!!! I don’t know about you guys, but that made my day! Iris, we really need to co-ordinate for practicing!
To stack or not to stack? That is the question. Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer the vet and elites of outrageous AI, or to take traits in arms against a sea of mobs, and by DPSing, end them. To die to res no more. And by a res we say end the combat and the armor damage that our character is heir to. ’Tis a consumation devoutly to be wished. To die, to res, perchance to be rezzed: Ay, there the rub, for in that downed state what RNG may come when we have shuffled through this dungeon path, must give us pause. Theres the respect that makes diminishing returns of so long farms. For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, the griefers wrong, the troll commanders inability, the pangs of DC, the devs delay, the insolence of pugs, and the impatient whining the unworthy takes. When he himself might his legendary make, with a bare greatsword? Who would bloodstone dust bear, to farm and grind under a wear life, but that the dread of something after the patch, the undiscovered jumping puzzle, from whose leaps no adventurer returns, frustrates the will and makes us rather take those mesmer ports, then to fly to walkthrough videos we know not of? Thus the fractals make cowards of us all and thus the native resolution is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of the zerg, and enterprises of great risk and movement. With this regard their guildies turned away and lose the name of awesome.
Thank you.

Bravo good sir. Bravo.
At least someone appreciates the classical arts

Friend, you must’ve missed the Shakespeare monologues I re-purposed a couple months back
BIG fan of the bard.
I got myself into quite a conundrum this morning: I posted on LFG “p2 melee lupi”, a guildee joined and then we got 3 others. I asked them if they could melee Lupi, and they all responded with an affirmative. We go down the first corridor, and the 3 pugs wipe. They make it a second time, but we had to rez one of them. Belka fight starts, and they wipe again (actually, they may not have all wiped, as I was distracted @ this point). We go to the spider room, and my guildee being a really good thief, puts down shadow refuge and smoke screen and all that jazz for stealth. Somehow, they manage to walk out of it and die. We get to abomination while they try, and fail, the run multiple times. We duo the abomination to open the wp. Get to Lupi. They all die with the first AoE, and my guildee and I duo it. They wipe multiple times on the following skip (Rotten Armada waypoint, not the Lupi one), and we get to alphard. They fall multiple times, and the guard doesn’t use WoR, Sanctuary, SotA, or anything like that. My guildee blocks all the projectiles and we win. They can’t make the following skip, and we duo Brie and end the path.
I realize that I was wrong in expecting a little more from a pug, and not putting “experienced” in the lfg, or any other things like that.
My conundrum is this: If you’re in a party, and they’re NOT contributing to anything, i.e. lying dead while you solo/duo everything, is it “right” to kick them? I didn’t realize how worthless they were at first, and by then we were halfway done with the path, but I wanted to kick them all and sell the path w/ my guildee. Would it have been ok to do so?
How would you fix the trading post? Just curious. I’ve heard this said many times, but don’t understand what the big deal is. The tp players spend as much time on the tp as we do practicing to get good at dungeons, and in reality, more. There’s manipulation, which isn’t cool of course, but other than that, why does the trading post need to be fixed?
I am amazed that gems isnt a key point in this argument.
More gold in economy =more gold converted to gems =higher gem value = more people spend real money = the most imporant thing for a non subscription game
less gold=less people buy gems = dead game.
Arenanets definition of a healthy economy is different from yours and thatss the way it should be
Megaserver
How do you figure?
Dead servers… hemmorhaging population, leads to megaserver.
Megaserver says that the game is dieing.
Ahhh…. I see. That in turn would lead to the assumption that the gold from dungeons is definitely contributing to the increase in prices that we see on the bltp. I see your argument now. I don’t agree, but I see where you’re coming from.

Huh…. A certain Saiyan was offering to teach it for 30g. Meh… I always wonder why people want to learn that stuff. It’s gonna be found out someday, and if you don’t know how to do it the real way, you’re eff’d.
Paths 2 and 3 can be solo’d w/ warrior or guard. This holds true to all classes as far as I know. Solos of path 2 and path 3 with thief are done regularly. Path 1, you need to buy help w/ tar and Path 4 can be quite tricky solo. Much easier to duo path 4 and split the shinies.
Good luck!
I think this is a very interesting discussion, as someone brought up something similar a couple of weeks ago asking for an increase in dungeon rewards, and iirc, I replied with something similar.
A couple of questions that I think would be relevant to the discussion:
A) Do you feel that there was a spike of inflation around the time that the dungeon rewards were changed?
B) Did you “feel” the spike of inflation when CoF was farmed by everyone and their mother?
C) Forgive me if you answered this in a previous statement, but do you feel that coin rewards should be removed completely from dungeons? If so, what should they be replaced with, and how would that be different than the currency that’s in place now?
I would very much like to see this study that you’re talking about. I would appreciate a link if you have a moment.
I don’t feel that there’s been a spike of inflation since champ farming has been nerfed and dungeon rewards have become the “carrot” that I think you’re saying they are. The only massive price increase I’ve seen has come because of the advent of the wardrobe system, which spiked precursors because you can have account-bound legendary weapons now.
If I am wrong, please correct me. I love dungeon rewards the way they are now, but I do wonder if there’s an effect on inflation that’s happening because of them.
I am generally critical of Anet and its employees. Experience has taught me not to put much faith in them. However, John Smith, their economist, is one of the few exceptions. He is doing a good job.
This. He’s pretty much the only employee left that I have any trust in.

Huh… your website is down.
I got confused w/ Ren’s first opponent. This is gonna be…. interesting lol.
So, we def. need to set up some practice times… I’ve got off all next week, so if I know everyone’s gonna be on, I can set aside some time for practice. I’ve got a feeling they’re gonna throw CM at us
Curse you Miku… So fast on the Bingo… I must up my forum speed replying…
OMG this is going to be so much fun
Ty for letting me play my warrior, as my guard isn’t that great yet and my ele needs some levels and love
