I 100% agree with Wynne. It’s not for everyone, but I’ve had a lot of fun taking newer players through dungeons over the years. Sometimes it’s frustrating, sometimes you get some guy who just won’t listen and causes all sorts of problems…but it is a nice way to add some challenge to the game while helping people out.

Plus there’s all the warm fuzzies when you get that group that is completely new and totally appreciative of the help. I actually screenshot and save things like the attached when ever they happen.

I get my jollies from teaching and solo/shortmanning/play what you want/naked/bad stats runs now. Met some interesting people along the way and that is far more entertaining than the quiet and efficient runs that most yearn for.

I totally agree, it is fun to run with low levels or less experienced players. When running in a exp pug group there is always complains about some1 not doing his job right etc. etc. It’s just less fun with a group of pugs who think that they are exp…

Phil, that guide is quite old, and to be frank, will get you kicked from most Arah parties. I would recommend watching this video. It will help you a lot in your playing.

You see, our toxic elitist dungeon community is actually very simple. Come here open minded and ask politely for help – and you get help. Come here and insult us because we can finish dungeons in 1/3 of the time you need or because we dared to call your guardian tank build ineffective – and you get the finger. What goes around, comes around. Good luck with your solos.

This is absolutely true. Come in with honest questions and a desire to be better, and we’ll bend over backwards for you. My guildees, friends, and I have given out hundreds of gold worth of stuff to help people out. Spent hours of our time trying to help people be better at dungeons. I used to run an Arah tour on the weekends. There’s a guild dedicated to helping people get better @ dungeons.

We want to help.

Finally started playing it. What an amazing game. While the combat in GW2 seems to be a bit better (only 10 hours in), the story is exponentially better.

tbh, even though GW2 combat is good I honestly don’t really miss it that much. Some people find it hard to play other games after playing GW2 because the gameplay isn’t as good, but I don’t really find it that much of a deal breaker.

i’ll tell you what – considering the fact that half of the game is ferelden and half of it is orlais, I honestly didn’t find all of the pseudo-french voices that annoying.

My favorite lately has been just joining the “p3” / “story” / “p2 at last boss” groups listed in “Open World Content”. Fun times.

I’ve also discovered that some of the most fun pugs are found by seeking out SEp2 PUGs. Always a laid back, easy-going group, if you’re into that sort of thing. Not terribly skilled, but motivated. Plus you usually get to be the hero, because nobody knows that path, lol.

Still never done that path been sitting with only that left for dungeon master for months.

I really have problems using exploits as my standards, Its just something I can’t stand, unless the game specifically makes clear shortcuts that you can use then there is no problem. I mean if for example (as very blunt example) a world boss would get stuck and I would be the only player around and I would kill it (just a example, I know its impossible in various aspects) Then I could reap the reward for doing basically nothing at all, it just feels wrong to cut corners in such a way.

as for my ego, I simply am who I am, most people are quit to change themselves just to go with the group, its not wrong for me to be true to myself unless there are really no options left, due to the other post recently revealing to me that nobody in Arenanet is in charge of renewing dungeons, or making new ones, my choices were exhausted and I simply have to alter myself now yes. Please don’t confuse my strong conviction with my ego, I simply try to measure my possibility’s, considering a mmo world always changes with each update, I did not feel a change like this would be outrageous at all. Up to now nobody still has given me a valid reason why this system would be bad for them.

I date to bet that (if) this system would have been made, the complaints would die out in less then a few weeks after people realized nothing changed for them at all, and rather gave them more possibility’s. more freedom is (usually) better.

I’m sorry, but after 2+ years with no new content (other than Aetherpath), the dungeon community would disagree with you. People want to get dungeons over with as fast as possible. My guild leader made an LFG for no stacking, and you can do the same with no skipping as well, if you consider that an exploit. You can add in a “full clear” option as well. It’ll take time to fill, but you’ll find like minded people.

The freedom is there, you just have to be good enough to enjoy it, just like there is freedom in playing Rachmaninoff’s 2nd piano concerto, but if I can only play “Heart and Soul” on the piano, I can’t take advantage of that freedom.

This goes back to my original point: Learn your class, learn the encounters, figure out how to deal with the encounters with your class. You can solo the dungeons, you just have to learn how. Good luck, and don’t give up. The rewards, personal rewards, not in game, are worth it in my opinion.

Ok I didn’t really read the whole OP (sorry gave me a headache halfway through) but I’m bored at work so I’ll bite. Here are a couple of possible solutions to what I did glean from it -

1) Ask other people who have the time/inclination to help you through to come with you. I would have suggested [NOOB] to you but I believe you may have already shot yourself in the foot on that one so…..
2) Start your own group and specify that you’re a) new b) not wanting to skip etc. all in the LFG description. People join and don’t like it, then boot them and carry on.
3) See if [PASS] is still going and will take you along.

No problem, the fact that you are honest about it makes it less of a pain, I do type a lot more then regular people, I love literature after all.

Thing is, I can beat bosses in the open world with whatever build I tried so far, its stupid you can’t do that in a dungeon. Also refrain form calling me a noob, I won’t claim to be a expert in the game, but I’m far from a noob as well, Ive seen players… some that just do the most stupid things, I’m more halfway, not extremely good, but also not horrible.

even so, I don’t care wherever people here are teachers or not,
if they want to help and offer advice, sure, I will try to follow it and consider it,
but if they add sarcasm, hate, annoying backhand insults, sorry, I won’t show respect to that, I only show respect for people who can talk to me in a proper way, even if they are pro players, respect is a basic etiquette that goes for everybody.

Not to mention I already stated that matters little, this is a post for a suggestion, not a post to ask for tactics. Not to confuse anybody I will add I appreciate the helpful comments, but most of it is stuff I already heard and tried. trying to solo does not work in a dungeon like Arah.

Arah is solo’d all the time. By every class. I understand that dungeons are a step up in difficulty from the open world content that you’re used to, but they’re not impossible to solo. It doesn’t take 5 years in MMOs to learn to do this too. This is my first PC game and MMO, and after a few months of practice, I can solo Arah on 3 classes without “glitching” the AI or “exploiting” things. If, on thief, I stealth past mobs, is that considered and “exploit” by your standards?

I’m sorry OP, but if you want to solo a dungeon, learn your class, learn the dungeon encounters, and practice it. Fail, ask yourself why you failed, try again. Keep trying and you’ll get it. There are teachers that can teach how to solo a dungeon, but you have to swallow your ego and ask. Anet’s not going to change how the dungeons work. Sorry.

I sadly realized that I haven’t played any other video game this year. Good grief. Hopefully I’ll get DA:I for xmas.

Thank you to the [SC]guard that opened arah so i could practice lupi on engi, after 2-3 hours and with tips from a guidie (and SR’s and reses so i could reset faster) I finally got my first solo.

I’m beginning to think that the moderators will infract anything that anyone reports, no matter what. The mods most likely don’t read the threads, but just issue an automatic infraction if someone cries to the mod. It’s happened to me twice: 1, VGM’s old thread, which was justified. 2nd, a thread that I wrote about why ANet doesn’t care about anyone, that got Vayne’d. I’m thinking that he reported it, and I got automatically infracted. When I fought it, it got my infraction taken away.

Every time I want to respond to a thread, and start to type, I ask myself, “Why bother?” Those that already do what I do, I’m preaching to the choir. Other nitwits… I’m not going to convince anyone.

Bad thing about not being able to sell them is that if you run lots of fractals, you get dozens, if not hundreds, of useless rings. It would be nice to be able to salvage them, or trade them, or mystic toilet them. Ask support though, you might get a good response!

Would you mind? I know that were some minor fixes here and there, but there have been new things that have come to light, and the rewards fix has not been touched. I got an uninfused ring from a fractal 50 the other day. Not cool.

I also abhor it. Was it intended? Most likely not. Is it an exploit? By the definition of the word, it is not. Is it cheesy? Absolutely. Personally, I do my best to push him away from the wall when I first enter the room, no matter the pug. To each their own though.

I agree with you, but unfortunately angry players stop playing, and stop buying gems. Especially with the carebear “New Player Experience”. Although we would truly enjoy something like that, it’s not going to happen.

Well nobody cares about healing in dungeons, I just threw that in there to be fair to everyone. Most people focus on damage output. Honestly, your examples are just criticism. It’s no different from the how dungeons are in their current state: “that run was slow” “you should reroll”

I would love a solo option. Ive been trying to get Arah Story Mode done on my Engineer for months. But the game is full of Leet snobs that only want zerker warriors or what ever. Oh and lets not forget about the Path Selling Trend that keeps growing by the day.

What you’re seeing in Arah is only the explorable mode that want “zerker warriors”. Most of the time, if you post an lfg for “arah story, all welcome” or something of the sort, your party will fill very quickly. As for selling, you see those posts more often because they take time to fill. If you make your own group, they will be filled very quickly.

Hi OP. So, you can actually solo most dungeons, other than those that have player gated mechanics, such as CoF 1, CoE, Arah 1. It’s actually the best/fastest way to make you a better player. It is difficult however, but well worth your time and effort.

Well, tbh, this is my first MMO. The last RPG that I played before I started playing this was The Last Story by Hironobu Sakaguchi, and I was raised on the Final Fantasy’s and games of the calibur, so coming into this game, I genuinely expected something of the sort, especially after watching Angry Joe’s review of the game where he compared it favorably to Mass Effect and Dragon Age (which I love).

This is the first RPG I’ve ever played where I didn’t give a flying kitten about the story. Is that wrong? I just don’t think the writing/storytelling is good enough to get me to care.

Oh well. Got my first lupi solo on thief the other day. A lot more fun than on warrior. I finally realized that playing other classes makes you a better player. Huh.
