Hi All,
I am getting back up to date on the last page.
Chris
Mr. Whiteside, can you have someone address the potential griefing that will happen w/ the loss of instance ownership in dungeons/fractals? I sincerely hope that your solution will alleviate our reasonable concerns about being kicked for selling/guildee replacement. I don’t want to carry people through Arah and be kicked at the last second because someone wants a guildee to come in for the credit.
Honestly, this could be a very bad thing. There is nothing keeping anyone safe in a dungeon anymore. I could carry people through arah and get kicked @ the last boss just because I said “I don’t like rat-people”. I hope that this is implemented wisely, otherwise, I foresee a lot of QQing.
That being said, it IS a good thing, I just hope it’s implemented so that griefing is kept to a minimum.
There has been a great disturbance in the farce, like a million QQs all crying out at once. No pug is safe. No leetist scum is safe.
ALL IS VAIN.
While I’m in agreement that there should be something done about the kicking thing, having an instance that I solo’d or carried a party through be stolen from me @ the last boss for people to invite guildees/sell? There’s another storm coming. How is it done in WoW/other MMOs that do it right? I literally see nothing but bad coming from this tbh.
Not going to lie, feeling kinda burnt. I’m trying really hard to remain positive in the face of all this attention that the dungeon sub-forum is getting, but it’s difficult. I feel that I’ve reached all my goals in game, soloing dungeons and Arah, paying forward to others what Iaharal and Leo did for me, earning good $$$ on the tp, etc. I logged in to do the living story stuff and realized for the first time in my 20+ years of being an RPG fan, I really just didn’t give a flying crap about the story, or the characters. In fact, I was rooting for the inquest to smash Tami, or do something brutal to Braham, or just out and out SOMETHING that would mix things up a bit, SOMETHING to catch me by surprise. Of course, nothing did.
I went back to pugging dungeons, as running w/ my guild is just too easy (and they don’t like my TS for some reason). Helped some people, solo’d some stuff, worked on ele, and just stopped for a sec and realized that there’s nothing else that I want to do. I honestly can’t imagine what you guys (and girls) who’ve been playing for 2 years now feel like.
I’ll pay 1600 gems for that. RL cash too, not conversion. GIMME A CAPE
This is getting out of hand I say. Out of hand.
rofl.
Just the way we like it 8^)
Had my first “Uninstall the game” troll today. Was helping people through Arah p4 and the necro pulled an illusionist, hunter and mage in the room before Lupi, after I told (suggested) everyone to stay on the ledge and I would take care of the turrets. Oh well. No good deed, right?
Kicked him, called in Jerus and finished the dungeon with some very happy pugs.
That’s a good point. I apologize Mr. Cleary. I hope you weren’t scared away!
If you report them, we will come.
With all due respect sir, but we have been, and you haven’t. There was a certain person that was grieving sellers for months, and was reported hundreds of times, and nothing. With all due respect sir, show us that you’re going to do what you say.
Deathpanel, while I didn’t have the time to get back to your first dismissal of my response, I do now. While I understand that you, as a WvW player primarily (from your forum posting history), may not care as much as we on this subforum do, dungeons are the main source of income for a large variety of the player base. They are a very important part of the economic “middle class” in GW2, and are very important based on that alone. They are also a very good skill determiner in PvE. There is no zerg to save you, and you need to do more than spam “1” the whole way.
I’m going to assume you’re intelligent and are not going to bring up the whole “stack in the corner” argument.
Although I prefer WvW I’ve spent enough time in dungeons to get the tokens to gear 18 of my characters, soon to be 20 since a couple are still not 80. (Some of them have multiple different stat sets) I will assume that is probably more time in dungeons than most of the people here complaining.
Dungeons (and fotm) are actually my main form of income as well.
My point is as I’ve stated before. When you’ve run dungeons as many thousands of times as I have which you probably have considering your talk of selling arah runs, it becomes a tedious bore.
The novelty has worn off over a year ago. I’m all open to reforming the dungeon runs but the vast majority of the recommendations by players in these forums is either to make it harder or more tedious which means more annoyance for old timers like myself who just want to get it over with and move on to something I actually like.
Now I’m not a big fan of the living world thing myself but at the very least in my opinion it’s better than putting more resources into dungeons since the living world content can be added as additional fractal dungeon levels later and that indirectly expands the dungeon system. (it has already been done with mai trin, molten duo, etc)
Deathpanel, while I understand that you are tired of Dungeons, and you have every right to be, that does not mean that they should be thrown away. As we both agree, the are very important for many factors. It is, at the end of the day, your opinion that it’s better to put resources in other places. There are people in here that have over 600 for their hobby dungeon explorer. We have become bored, which is why we are doing other thing in dungeons, i.e. exploding Lupi, mountain-goating, etc.
Oh my goooood
What is a dungeon, really? It’s just an instance
That just…. I just can’t read that kind of crap anymore.
Not to worry there’s plenty of it in our new red thread now.
I know. My facade of civility is starting to fade.
Honestly I kind of hope nothing gets done for dungeons at this point. The people in here certaintly don’t deserve the devs’ time and I like other parts of the game too.
The devs have a decent idea of what their resources are and how important certain aspects of the game are to warrant devoting resources to them. By their history of resource allocation such as the disbanding of their dungeon team I doubt their conclusion was that Dungeons needed more major changes or new features.
Personally I believe there are far more important aspects of the game that needs new content such as WvW and living story in that order.
The dev’s actions has nothing to do with whether or not they find bickering in forums annoying and everything to do with practicality.
Obviously they found it impractical to devote more resources to come up with more major features for dungeons and decided that resources were better spent elsewhere given the upcoming patch notes and the Q&A from the dev streams.
The people complaining at this point has three options really. Keep complaining and be ignored, find some other aspect of the game to like and devote time to that, or quit.
Deathpanel, we have a hard enough time trying to corral the players we do have. You’ve made your point. You “want dungeons to be abandoned” and want what we have to “bleed to other parts of the game”. I’m sorry, but this is not the subforum for you.
Oh my goooood

I’m going to assume you’re intelligent and are not going to bring up the whole “stack in the corner” argument.
Now, according to your argument that “they are not supposed to be run for the sake of running”, I could see how you would think this. However, if the developers agreed with this assessment, Hobby Dungeon Explorer would not be implemented in achievements, and people would not pay me hundreds, if not thousands, of gold to buy Arah p4 off of me or my friends for their Dungeon Master title.
I, and other people in this forum, are not “fringe cases”. We have an 866 reply thread for teaching dungeons. On a regular basis, I take people through all 4 paths of Arah, even if they’ve done it before, just to learn how to do it better. My weekend Arah tour is always full, and more and more people want to join it every week. If you put up an LFG for any dungeon, it is filled within seconds (or sub 3 minutes if you’re off-peak or have stringent requirements).
Suffice to say, dungeons are a priority in a large percentage of the players’ minds. This does not mean, however, that ANet will support them. You also have to look at the artistic direction that the team is going in, and that is Living Story. They WANT to push that out there, as they think it will bring new people into the game at a much quicker pace than a new dungeon. It is an artistic decision, not something that is motivated by money. If they were motivated by money alone, the whole structure of the game itself would be different, and there’d be capes in the gem store (I’d pay a lot of money for a cape).
Anet went the direction that living story was more important than anything else. It’s not the status quo, it’s just their choice as a business.
Dungeons are only a means to an end(Tokens, Mats, gold), and not supposed to be run for the sake of running them so therefore there’s no need for more dungeons. Way too many dungeons would just split the dungeon community’s small numbers down even further amongst different dungeon instances and make finding a team for certain dungeons even harder.
I’m sorry, but you are wrong in every single way.
I’m sorry Colesy. If you decide to leave, you will be missed.
Danica left because her contract was up and she has to wait to renew it with them.
That wouldn’t make much sense though. He does his Shadowstep for a good reason, and it’s not a game-breaking bug. Resetting mid fight though? As any soloer can attest to, much QQ
But, that’s the point of it. It means no more resets just because he got near a door. It also means no more wall/reflect insta-kills.
No, I understand and agree that insta-kills shouldn’t be able to happen, I just think that a random shadowstep to the middle of the room+AoE might not be the best way to get around that.
That wouldn’t make much sense though. He does his Shadowstep for a good reason, and it’s not a game-breaking bug. Resetting mid fight though? As any soloer can attest to, much QQ

Guys please. Reel in your angry kittens. Lets put effort into what they are asking for and then see if it does anything.
Yes. Sheath your swords. Let’s put in real effort. It seems that they’re actually going to listen to the regulars this time, instead of some PHIW kazul who wants crafting in fractals. We can do this!
Fractal Boss suggestions:
Make Mossman and Archdiviner bigger or easier to see. I can’t see their motions through the spell effects or the surround areas.
Guys, I know we’re all burnt out from disappointment, but the distinct possibility that we could enact real change is something to be carefully examined. As much as I’ve been a negative nancy these past few weeks, this is a GOOD THING. Bring out everything we know. We need to show them the we understand the content and we CAN make it better!!
Hello Devs,
As requested, a list of changes we would like to see in dungeons:
1. Giganticus Lupicus should not be able to be skipped. Period.
a. If Lupicus walks into a door frame, he will reset.
b. Sometimes, Lupi can turn invisible and shadowstep to a player.
2. Both Simin and Farnax (and to a certain extent, Kaisar) can be bugged out by their surrounding terrrain; Farnax and Kaisar can be pushed into their respective statues, and Simin can get caught up on a bit of terrain and not attack.
3. P4 final boss can be afk-ranged
4. If you’re going to be putting in an extra event, please give us a reason to complete it (A substantial one)
I’m kinda burnt for the day. Please add to this. (Don’t put “Should not be able to skip mobs” or “No stacking”)
OMG WE GOT A RED POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like these guys said, I take people through all 4 paths pretty much every weekend and by the end, you’ll have a very good understanding of arah. It’ll be fun, as long as you have a good attitude. You won’t get stuck at Lupi, you won’t get screwed over, you won’t get raged at, you’ll just make money and tokens and have a lot of fun. My thread is up for tomorrow. Sign up and I’ll gladly take you along. There’s a video you need to watch and get TS, but other than that, just know your class.
Mr. Whiteside, do you take community feedback into “balance” changes? Like there are some things in this coming balance patch that negatively affect PvE (not talking about firey exploit sword), but have little to no affect on PvP (like the gs 100b and wwa nerf), and it just doesn’t make sense. Are these balances already a done deal, or are you taking feedback into what’s going on?
Once again, I’m really grateful that you’re talking to us again. Although you said that it’s not about gems, at the end of the day, it’s still a business, and what you’re doing is great for business. I’m actually going to buy gems again for the first time in a year.
Yay! Another student got his Lupi solo done tonight!! Gratz Grump!!
Same drill.
I’m going to be doing an Arah tour (all paths) Saturday morning, approx 0900 PST. I will take any and all comers (well, just 4 more I guess, as I can’t run 2 accounts at the same time). You can be whatever class you want provided you KNOW YOUR CLASS. I’m very well qualified to teach warriors, pretty decent with guardians, and have general knowledge of eles, mesmers, and thieves, but I don’t know much about engis, necros or rangers, so I will expect you to know how to adapt to a situation that is presented to you.
I expect you to have:
Melee weapons
Undead Slaying potions
Life-steal food (Candied dragon rolls are great)
One ranged weapon for Melandru (haven’t gotten that melee spot down yet)
A really good attitude
Teamspeak (a microphone isn’t necessary, but I don’t want to have to type out all my instructions)
Additionally, I request that all my trainees, warrior or not, watch this video. Brazil did an amazing job showing exactly how to melee Lupicus (apply what he said to your class). We will not be ranging Lupi at all, so be prepared for melee.
Leave the names here, and we’ll get started when we have a full party. We will start with p4 and work our way backwards. You don’t need to stay for the whole thing, so if you just need p4 for you DM title, I don’t mind if you leave after one dungeon. I’d hope I’ll have more people waiting for someone to drop.
Bring a good attitude and laugh at my lame jokes.
Yeah, it’s a terrible fate for me. Worse than having to eat sliced cucumbers and lettuce tonight…
/throws up
It’s good for you. No kvetching.
Thank you Devs for talking with us, and not just at us. It is greatly appreciated, and no matter what, talking with us is always better than not. No matter what. Open lines of communication with your customer base is the true foundation to good business.
Please keep it coming, good or bad.
Are there still Mystic Forge Recipes/items that havent been discovered yet that are not recipe sheets for food feasts/pots/trays or recipe sheets for satchels/boxes of armor?
Does Zommoros still have some secrets up his djinny sleeve?
Ooooo…. this is a good question! Are there any spiffy weapons/armors that haven’t been discovered yet either?
Vespers… if you didn’t say one thing then contradict your post 5 posts down people wouldn’t troll you.
Lets start over
Arah exp is easy to find a group for. Agree?
Where did I contradict myself?
Exhibit a:
Arah is now full of people that skip the bosses and then sell at the end. Even more sadly, there’s enough terrible players willing to pay 7-20g per path to support this.
Then:
I couldn’t care less about people selling paths… providing they are not skipping things like lupicus to do so.
You assert that arah is full of people who skip bosses (this is false). (Then you say MOST sellers are exploiting) (also false). You also assert that people buying them are people who can’t run them themselves (also false). Then you say you don’t mind sellers. Which is obviously untrue based on your first comment.
POINT IS. you wanna learn arah? Join [Noob]. Join [Ares]. Make your own LFGs. Go with Ivan. So many options.
After seeing this I’m not sure you know how to read…
I never said the word “MOST” (you put that in caps for some reason even though I never said “MOST” in any of the quotes you pulled).
I specifically said I have a problem with people exploiting and selling paths, but not the ones that do it legitimately. Unfortunately, there are still lots of people that are exploiting it.
Based on the people I have talked to ingame, the majority of them are buying because they can’t/won’t run the dungeon and simply want the tokens and title. I said I’m sure some people do it to level faster, but based on my experiences, they are the minority.
It must be nice to spend 7g to get a level when you could do Cof p1 in 8 minutes and get paid to do so. it makes very little sense to buy dungeon paths for that much unless you have gold to throw away.
Sometimes, I have a lvl 40, 50, 60 toon that I really don’t want to spend the time leveling, and I don’t like to switch toons in pugs @ last boss, so I’ll buy runs. Doesn’t happen all the time (rarely in fact), but I’m allowed to pay gold to be lazy too
Oh I know people still run the dungeon, but dungeon sellers are far far more common than they used to be, and the vast majority of LFGs want experienced members that will melee lupicus. It is much harder to find a group willing to take a beginner.
I’ve heard that it’s possible to list your own LFG asking for a teacher. I think it only costs like 200 gems or something. Or maybe it was an exploit.
Not sure.
I always have to laugh when people attempt to insult me but end up looking like a potato because they haven’t actually read anything I’ve written. I am not whining about being a beginner and not finding parties I was merely expressing an opinion about the current state of Arah because the OP is a beginner and looking for help. Nowadays many people simply buy the path instead of actually doing it, because sellers are out of control in there.
TL:DR next time you try to be funny, you should probably make sure you actually read first. Peace.
It seems like when you open the LFG and only see the paths that are being sold, it’s because they’ve been up for 45+ minutes trying to find buyers. Those Px, 20g paths stick around a while on the lfg, while the “P2, exp” or “P2, melee Lupi” or “p1, first time, please halp” come and go really quick.
Guild doesn’t have anything to do with it tbh. People want to learn the path so they can bring their guildees with them. I’m sure if anyone did the same kind of advertising as I did, it would be full.
Dude, I have a teaching tour on the weekends. All paths. There are people waiting in the wings for it. Believe me, people run it w/o selling. All the time. The lfgs fill instantly, which is why you don’t see them.
First, who is “The bandit in arah”?
Alphard prolly.
If this is the case OP, you don’t really know the dungeon at all. She’s got an excellent “anti-stacking” mechanic: Her pull/bomb. Up until recently, it was a 1 shot thing that destroyed pugs (I remember QQing about it myself before I grew a pair). Yes, people can defeat it, but that’s by proper, intended use of game mechanics.
Maybe go to fractals OP, or just pug Arah w/ brand new people. I’m sure you’ll be pleased with the lack of stacking. (You can stack in fractals of course)
This really needs to get fixed
do not alter the way WoR works, the right and easy fix would be to make the Lupi wall non targetable (with invisible walls in front of it)
it would take roughly 10-15 mins of dev time, but it’s worth it, this exploit ruins the fun of the whole lupi fightStop doing that and fight him differently if it ruins your fun.
I agree. If I don’t want people to fight Lupi on wall during a pug or a trial, I’ll start the fight behind Lupi and push him away from the wall. You can do the same if you really don’t like it. Don’t ruin someone else’s fun. (I like seeing Lupi explode like a water balloon sometimes. It’s funny after the 500th time fighting him)
points 1 and 5 are common “I didn’t really think it through” terrible suggestions.
That’s your opinion, and this thread was made for people to add their points for dungeon improvement in the future.
Don’t have a point?
Don’t post.
His, and most posters points are that, while ideas 2, 3, and 4 seem to be reasonable, ideas 1 and 5 are not. First, who is “The bandit in arah”? Lupi has some nice “anti-stacking” tactics. It’s also been 2 years with no real updates. People want to burn him down as fast as possible. I’m truly wondering if you have fought Lupi, or Archdiviner, or Mossman, or Melandru (in Arah p4), or any of the slightly more difficult bosses in the game, as your first suggestion doesn’t bode well for your arguments, in that you don’t really understand what you’re talking about.
Your 5th suggestion, the whole anti-skipping thing, has been done to death honestly, and even St. Hrouda answered a question about it. The mobs don’t drop good enough rewards to justify going through and killing all of them. In going back to arah, you do know that many mobs there are actually meant to be skipped, right? Take the spider room- There is a nice golem suit sitting right outside it. That suit isn’t meant to be taken in to kill all the spiders and aboms, it’s meant to facilitate skipping them.
OP, regular posters in this subforum genuinely want dungeons to be better, but your first and fifth posts just won’t work in this game. Sorry. They also open you up to mockery by people who have been running these dungeons and reading these complaints for 2 years.
Lol, everyone farms the dungeon. Just get on around reset.

@Mr. Smith. Thank you for engaging with us. We’re all really grateful that someone is actually answering questions.
Thank you, and I hope that you are continued to be allowed to interact with your player base.
I think that it’s always safer to say “Him” or “He”, as most players that play female toons are, in fact, male. I for one am always pleasantly surprised when someone corrects me. (Don’t know why, but I am)
Well, in non idiotic ANet news, I’m very proud of one of my students who got her FIRST LUPI SOLO last night! After only 11 hours of practicing!!
My students are the greatest!
Come on… You know they’re not going to post in here.
Sorry everyone. We’re all royally p’d off, but the fact of the matter is that no one at ANet cares what you think. Devs are never going to come in here. If they do, they’ll say 1 or 2 things and run the risk of getting fired (ex. Robert Hrouda). Nobody at ANet cares about us, and as long as we keep buying gems, there’s no reason for them to care.
It doesn’t matter if you leave, as there’s no sub fee; they won’t even notice that you’re gone.
You simply DO NOT MATTER to ANet or NCSoft, unless you’re buying gems.
