Its a given that most guardians now a days are specced with 30 in vit trait and 30 in tuffness trait if you want tailor yourself to best suit the profession. This leaves 10 trait points over.

Most people seem to trait Virtues, in the consecrations longer (wall of reflect ) or spirit weapons last longer (shield). I found a useful precision trait that I use instead. I use the signets recharge 20 percent faster so my heal is quicker.

What traits is everyone running, for survivibility, besides the 30/30 in defense

I run PVT on warrior, partly because i am new to class and partly because zerker isnt viable for every run although i use it sometimes. Mainly PVT though.

I dont have too much trouble staying alive and DPSing when I am with a team that has another heavy but when its a team of squishers, and they expect me to seemingly melee when im the only one and they dont use support on me, since most light class support must be used on themselvs to live, I always end up dying.

So what do you guys do to your warriors when your the only heavy, in lets say, a “Newb” group as sometimes i will join with new players and I still will do the run, but I know that I will have problems.

i think most people skip because its actually harder to fight the trash, then it is to run through it.

Example: TA First Set Of Nightmare Hounds. Many teams have at least 1-2 players go down if fought, however, running past and dodgeing once, you will only take 1 hit.

Now why should I fight and risk hurting my armor when I can merrily pass through, especially when the drops are sub-par. Sure, fighting might be fun, but if I want to kill stuff, Ill goto Cursed Shore where I get rewarded heavily for killing mobs, not a dungeon.

I believe path 1 AC could compare to CoF path1 but people drag it out. CoF p1 is a very sophisticed tactical run, with multiple skips.

In AC the following CAN be skipped but are commonly fought, if these were skipping like CoF, the run would be signifiicantly shorter. Not the same as CoF, but still a decent time.

Skippable:
1. Spider Queen
2. Gravelings in the Trap Hallway
3. Kholer
4. All the gravelings heading to the boss

Id guess Spider Queen adds about 5 mins. Gravelings add like 3 minutes. Kholer adds 5 minutes or more if fail and the mini-champ gravelings add like 2 minutes. All in all, these little bosses probaly take around the same time the actual path takes.

CoF is just more organized and pre-set. If it were randomly pugged, the times would be significantly longer. People will just pick a new dungeon if its nerfed, this is just the most convienent. However, I believe AC would still fall under peoples defintion of speed farming

As someone who recently mained a Thief, I bring:

- Permablinds (Black Powder)

- Anti-Defiant (A thief can consistently chip away stacks using Headshot. It’s the Warrior’s fault he isn’t using this opportunity.)

- Shadow Refuge

- SUSTAINED DPS (Pistol whip in a Glassy initiative regen build should not be underestimated.)

- Spammable blast finishers

- Perma weakness or poison

- Boon stripping

Honestly, I don’t see why it is people hate thiefs. We have tons of survivability options, and if people are still dying, they must be playing like shadowstepping assassin “narutards” from GW1.

We have tons of survivability, including an on-demand reflect. However, with each Unload and Pistol whip, we regain 900 HP using Signet of Malice MINIMUM! And that’s WITHOUT life-steal!

I wouldn’t call myself a pro, but I wonder what those PUGs are doing wrong to die as a Thief? We’re pretty comparable to a Guardian in that we make up for our low HP with all our survivability options.

-Blind is good, but very temporary. If you use your initiative on blind, thats less for Unload which is your main source of DPS. So your sacrificing damage for a condition defensively which can be OK in some groups but I dont think its OP.

-Not sure as to what dungeon/area the Defiant removal is needed

-Shadow Refuge. I use Ash Legion Spy Kit and Order of Whispers Spy Kit. Entire professions specific skill in a consumable.

-Perma weakness or poison. Weakness I could see being used as I didnt know thiefs can but poison, not so much. Its like saying my Warrior can perma bleed. Neat, now what. Im not sure how you do the weakness bit but the thing about thiefs is when you do these it takes away from your main attacks, while lets say warriors, can just Shout in addition to doing 100b at the same time, not one or the other

-Boon Stripping. It seems most areas/dungeons when mobs have a boon, they will regain it within seconds of it being stripped. There is rarely a mob that will regain a boon, lets say every 20 seconds, leaving a downtime. Most is created by nearby enemys which are alot and even if mesmer uses null field, the enemys seem to put the boon back up.

Thiefs are one of the better squisher classes but they are far from perfect.

thats like saying nerf healing eles because they heal too much. thats what warriors do, DPS. without their DPS, i dont think id want to play mine. it just so happens that DPS is the key to 1 path in 1 dungeon out of the entire game. sounds normal

yea but since he runs to the middle, hes not attacking so they made him invuln that way you cant just DPS him as he uses his knockback skill. the whole way of him using his special ability would have to be changed if this fight were to stay fair

I always hear warriors going “FGJ!” “OMM” “Shake It off!”

But I noticed I can never hear other guardians saying Retreat, SY and Hold the line doesnt even have a voice atm.

Why does guardian only hear himself, and wars get the team to hear theirs?

People dont realize guards are even using a shout half the time

Why do people think this drops so many rares?

It seems monsters drop rare items according to their difficulty color (Regular, Silver, Gold, Bronze etc..)

The monsters here seem to be Bronze.

But, the monsters are also bronze in
1. Ascalon
2. Krait in Underwater

So why is spending all the time farming these so popular? Is it really confirmed the drop rate is better here? I seem to always get regular items, maximum powerful venom sac. Not these lodes/exotics people say you get.

Also when you do jade maw, the collusus are the same color rarity as the mobs, isnt this farming enough?

I think Cursed Shore gives better drops, I dont understand this craze

i used to not like it and i went off to cursed shore in JQ, to my suprise i found 4-5 randoms killing random stuff in the ocean. we even did killed a champ broodmother, the UNDERWATER ONE, which i never knew existed.

try going to a popular spot right after daily resets and you might find some poeple, making it more fun and faster

the thing to remember, as long as he doesnt heal , he only bubbles at certain hp percents, so dont DPS too fast, give yourself time to cooldown ALL heals.

its still hard ofc but giving yourself proper time to prepared for the adds is nice. assuming, you can live through the boss’es main attacks eaiser then the adds, which if you have AR shouldnt be a problem

Ungood. it used to be a req 50/50 kills for each regular monthly, in fact i have never ever completed a monthly due to this old requirement. I always wanted too, but never did WvW. I was so happy when i saw it was moved/removed

when fighting the first boss vine that you encounter before choosing your path, i usually melee him. 2-3 of his baby vines normally surround him but i notice for like 50 percent of the fight, they are inactive, just looking at me but not shooting their AOE spit.

then randomly, sometimes, at different hp percents, in many runs, they will activate for no reason and start pwning me with the spit. then sometimes it stops.

there is no pattern to this, how can i always just make them not shoot me? what is triggering it? (i dont think people are going near it)

the assassins are see-able for a second or two after they spawn, then they use stealth so if you look close, you target it as it appears, and then the target stays after they stealth

The fact is that guardians aren’t the best dps class and you still think of choosing this to dps just means that you are not using your judgment right.

But an all-out DPS guardian has more inherant survivability than an all-out DPSer of most other professions. It is for the most part a working spectrum – that the spectrum extends beyond the class in the ouchie-direction doesn’t mean those farther that direction aren’t giving up something to get there.

I have 5sets of guardian gear. Guardians are DPS machines, with a GS. Problem is, the community runs scepters which are bad.

MY LIST OF GUARDIAN DPS:

My guard with knights gear/ my own staff as alt wep can Out DPS:

engineer, ele, necro, ranger,

guardian with zerker gear and staff can do as much or more than my
mesmer

Guardian with zerker gear, staff can stay about on par, slightly under but match his DPS nicely + i can stay alive:

The 1 character that puts Guardian DPS to shame, is warrior. If your guard damage is too low, maybe your not playing it right. you THINK you are, but your not. Because you should be able to easily out damage a squisher and be tanky at the same time. Or if u feel the area is easy (AC, COF,FOTM ~10) Run full zerker and rival even the glassiest squishers into a who dies first contest.

I run knights signia, its tanky and i do good dps. So both. im not a glass cannon and im not a useless 0 dps tank. I can tank and DPS rather well in fact.

Guardian can make their own combo and finish it in a variety of ways that other classes do not have the functuality to finish and create so many of their own.

Ways to create Combo Fields Or Combo Finishers for GS

  1. Whirl is a Combo Finisher
  2. Leap is a Leap Finisher
  3. Symbol that counts as a Light Combo Field
  4. Binding Blade is a Finisher

This is one weapon, The Greatsword. Now, name another class or another guardian weapon and show me where he can set up a Combo Field, and finish his Combo Finisher with a variety of 3 skills.

Most classes have strictly Combo Fields or Combo Finishers and its very rare to find such versatility in the GS. I like it

Can you name me a class that can do this? This was on only 1 weapon remember if you have to lay down field>>fast switch to alt wep>>>finish the combo that would be acceptable.

But name some classes. Name some weapon combos. Name your favorite type of combo to setup, and finish with.

Name weapon combos you use that arent bad.
Greatsword Swap to Staff – Wait a few secs, Empower, Draw a Line, Back to GS
Hammer. (OK but I dont mind if people run it)
Scepter/Torch – Ranged but Torch for DPS encounter
Scepter/Focus – TANKY!!
Scepter/Shield – Have not seen this in action, id lean towards focus vs shield.

ex. of bad weapon combos: 1h Sword/Torch
1h Mace/Torch

Not sure where to peg my Mace/Shield. I havent used this since i got “good” but certaintly it taught me alot and still has value. Just not sure where to place it on the scale. It shouldnt be frowned upon, but its not exactly a prime build. (Fellow Forum’s Comments pls) – Vote on why having a setup like that would be better than either :
scepter+offhand or how many situations you think your shield will save you than if you only had a GS. Vote on how many teams would perfer you be able to effectively turtle, but hurt the DPS output. (Maybe we failed 4 times, can you tank for us would warrant shield/mace?)

Hmmm i never found meditations to be useful even when traited fully.

Honest Debate, My Heal Meditaiton healed for 1.4k HP. This is miserable when compared to Sanctuary (Traited), hold the line, save yourselfs, etc… they also heal for about 1.1-1.4k hp BUT they give much more than just the heal and way less cooldown.

I used to play mace/shield and i was more tanky, but if somethings gonna do 10000 damage, your screwed even with 5k tuffness anyway xD guardians seem tanky enough to use the hammer OR GS for 1 slot, then switch (always) to staff to give team support and urself heals via empower. If its too tough a fight, then scepter in place of staff.

Oh and conditions. I never found any to be a problem on guard, im so tanky i can outheal or outlive any condition (Poison is annoying but semi rare so eh i deal with it)

Can we just turn Smite into a Symbol already?

Wow great idea. Really. I dont belive smite needs any buffs atm besides being turned into a symbol that just deals x damage over time (same damage as it is now). Its already nice as it is, altthough in general since scepter is “underpowered”, i guess, a buff wouldnt hurt.

Benefits of smite in FoTm:
- Does 15 hits! This is amazing for breaking the grawl lava shamans shield bubble
- Is excellent for pulling grawl around the LOS cliff and is recommended to pull like this

I formally request a test server that allows players to insta make any character to 80, with any gear, with full unlocked map etc.. Obviously this server would not “Save” any data, it would just be a one time thing you could do to test stuffs out and play with other players who dont want to grind to have fun. Since loot does not carry over or store, no problems. Just purely for fun. Bump if interested

Btw, all bosses agony are dodge able except maw. I wonder if there are players running fract 30 with 0 ar.

why do more work than you have too? I could technically, but why would i

a. want to never melee since if you melee, you probaly wont dodge agony on bosses
b. take more damage, almost dying if i misdodge

games should be fun, and i cant imagine how doing all this extra stuff, with lesser stat gear (non-ascended) would be considered fun or a thrill. sure maybe one or two times to see what its like but imo, id say dying every time i got agony on 30 with 0 ar would not be fun

Just because you DC as the starter doesn’t mean your entire party gets kicked. You’ll get kicked if the starter leaves the party completely, or switches to a different character. A friend of mine opened a dungeon and then after finishing, logged off. It didn’t boot anyone, and another party member wandered inside the dungeon for a good hour or so and didn’t get booted.

Quoted for truth. Not 100 percent sure but I have been leader and accidently closed gw (oops) or disconnected and team was still inside. At the time, I didnt say anything but I was quite puzzled as to how the team stayed inside, since I was the maker.

tldr;

i just looked at your build, it has no support at all for your team mates.
it seems centered on melee and pet abilities.

the traits do not support your title of a support oriented-ness.

well my guardian requires 0 support from teammates, as i would perfer this guys DPS’ish build and less support vs less damage and more support.

my warrior, only needs support from other wars/guardians as other classes dont give me anything i actually need to live or do maximum damage

and i dont play my squishers. so i think he has a good build

First of all, learn to dodge. Some attacks aren’t worth taking the full brunt of.
Other than that, Mace+Focus prevents a lot of damage, and if you pair it with a Greatsword (or Sword) you have another Blind.

mace focus is also 0 dps. no one needs a “Tank” that dishes out 0 dmg. they need a “tanky” guardian that can partially tank but also do damage i.e. GS/hammer/etc..

actually i like this and would argue its not broken but working as intended.

I want to set rules, builds etc.? No other way besides forming my own group, in my own instance, with my own rules?

If you dont like it ill eitehr leave or kick.

Now there is a downside as what you guys said but Its honestly not hard to find someone with a stable connection who can start instaance. do story mode and then you can do it urself

the reason no one does 1, even though they do and you could always just do 2+ to level, but anyway, yea, fractals came out months ago man. Most people at least did 1 fractal when it came out for monthly or fun.

its still easy to progress with new patch

knights insignia gear. 0/0/30/30/10 w/consecration last longer. either bane signet of signet of judgement, wall of reflect or SYG/SY.

tank a little, if its not tons of hp use virtues to heal vs. your main signet heal. use AH trait and use staff as your alt weapon to heal (empower)

it might not be “you” per say, but in general terms, the playerbase for ele sucks. too many newbs. yes there are good players, and good uses for ele but overall the people who play it die way too much.

No, you dont NEED ascended gear for level 10, but you will have to dodge more often and take more damage from agony than needed with proper gear.

Keep doing FoTm the best way to get Ascended items atm. Do your 10 daily for chance @ ring.

Some tips for dungeons:

Ditch Healing Power Gear as its worthless. You heal just as good with 0 HP.

Get Knights Insignia Gear/Weps

You will do good damage + be just as tanky as if you were to wear any defensive set. spec 0/0/30/30/10 or 0/10/30/30/0
