1- if your PvE melee range…why not double tap? I play WvW almost exclusively and when running against break bar lords, it’s best to make the burst skill a pb directional aoe with double tap

2- Rupturing Smash is super useful and easy to land when trying to lock down runners, since you are generally already in hammer and have already used your sword/GS gap closers. If the runner pushes ahead of your regular hammer stun lock skills, primal is the only thing to stop them for a lock down and kill.

I find it, at least in the game mode I play, more useful then earth shatter, if I need aoe burst I’ll be popping arc divider instead of being in hammer to begin with.

I can see how earth shaker can be more useful in PvE if your goal is to drop multiple PvE mobs rather then stop their movement with a directional based cursor targeted area skill.

This depends on what yout system is.

I rarely see lag unless I am in SMC lord during a 3 zerg match in T1 .

And I play on a mf surface pro 3…mostly set to low/med . My lowest fps is usually around 14 and that’s high zerg fest time. Completely playable.

Issue is less of game lag then zerg vs zerg skill lag which I believe is server caused.

I think the frog camp should get sick of the stupid players every once in awhile. 400 vet frogs and 10 champions should throw siege and start taking the map. Those boring hours when nothing is happening…

AI using cannons/ ACs to block the 2 Quentin chokes would be sooo epic!

A full dire build only gives a chrono 25.5k HP and 3k armor. I used runes of the undead over perplexity runes for a higher toughness stat in this build, along with full ascended gear and full infusions (which most players do not have), and I still can’t get the numbers you are throwing out.

Just learn how to get away from these cancer builds. If you have to fight them, bring strong AoEs to kill their clones before they can get to you when they are shattered.

There are some builds that just aren’t worth fighting. This build is one of them.

I wouldn’t completely trust gw2skills, atleast for some of the stats, for what ever reason when I plug in my build it is about 100 ferosity short of what I am currently at with no food/stones/zone wide buffs or boons

The weather thing…

1- negative effects would effect all 3 sides…essentially putting everyone on same level, which changes nothing…same fights.

Run with a tag while not representing any guild, prove your worth night after night , log into ts for that squad, hell, talk on ts.

Someone will invite you if you prove to be a reliable player that knows the ropes

No one’s gonna merc you out on forums without some kind of track record / fame and people with those traits are 1- in a guild or 2-know what guild/server they are after.

BTW your rank up speed is determined by what your doing….capturing SMC is huge exp…keeps are also really good.

People Farm EOTM Ktrain to rank fast, that’s why that platinum and you just killed was such a n00b. I don’t worry much about rank because the EOTM grind has diluted the titles and they are meaningless. I also easily meet the 2 rank ups per day for daily….so I focus more on kills and working up my realm avenger title then wvw rank.

Only reason I can see caring about rank is the hope of drops (ascended chest). Which still seems like a silly focus, cause you can craft / mat buy them without much trouble or Farm fractal 3 Daily show before you spend your night in wvw, fractal unsafe really don’t take a lot of time

You might need to work on your tagging skills. Make sure every guard/ lord and enemy player you hit atleast for 1-2k to get kill credit. Use aoe or melee cleave. Chase Downs, for Gods sake…see a down, get your behind on top of it and burn!

You get 100s of tombs from reward tracks that you can 80 all your slots fairly quickly. Adding tombs to wvw rank is doubling down in an area that is already flooded. Most of us wvw’er have useless stacks of tombs. I convert all new ones to spirit shards just to save inventory space

Yeah this question makes no sense. You get them fast enough that with level tombs you can insta 80 a new character slot and full exotic gear them in less then 5 mins if you main a wvw raider.

Population balance. I’m on the Dragonbrand server and nearly every time I enter WvW, I can’t find anyone else on my side anywhere. I always have the outnumbered buff which does little for a lone player against a group. It doesn’t matter what time of the day I log in, there’s almost never anyone on my team. WvW for us is practically broken.

Our guild (gods) runs tag nightly from 8 to 11pm est, generally pdf or joy will run at 9pm and gotl also frequently runs.

So I don’t know what you are talking about.

Linking and mass transfers (3+ large guilds per week off a server is a problem)

I know people are super salty over class balance but I’m not too worried there. I generally run a semi meta class/build but not the top dog guard/ele/rev/mes and I don’t have issue with my class / playstyle.

Last night we ran a guild class raid (every Monday we zerg with only 1 class just to learn ropes) and not only was it a class that gets a ton of flack but I also screwed up and geared him wrong (condi v power) but still had a ton of fun. Additionally was able to 1v1 +vet shrine golem against me and win out against enemy with 10% hp left in down state…which was hilarious. I get that there are some balance issues but a lot of the complaining is people not playing to their strengths. As I’ve said here before…sometimes it’s not thief roam night and you need to run your guardian vise a versea

This is silly without a closed guild raid cmd tag.

Also the colors are player community determined for meaning or not assigned a meaning at all, representing them on wvw window in color doesn’t mean anything if the server just has cmd utilize a color they like or that isn’t already present. It would be helpful to servers that designate like blue – open, red – emergency response, yellow – guild run…or what ever.

Well they should, I am quite sure the EU megaserver has more players than the NA megaserver (based on the achievement leaderboards, you need much less to become top 1000 in NA than EU which implies lower population)

So I wanted to fill my 5th character slot and finally decided to drop necro in that spot…level up booked him to 80 and decided to try condi since I main a power build class.

I’ve been surfing meta build and trying to come up with a plan. I rabided up (cause full gearing off wvw merchant took 2mins) and decided upon staff for bombs shut down in groups and scepter/warhorn for single target condI?

Now this is were I get into trouble, I look at the major builds on meta and each appears to be lacking in something for a full condi load up and then there is also what utilities to put… spite signet paired with epidemic seems awesome but no builds call for it? I think I like plague for the elite. Spectral walk or locust swarm or both…and for that matter, off hand dagger or warhorn?

Anyone out there running heavy condi with success? I want to be able to help shut down boon kittens when guild runs into a boon heavy small group and to be able to melt small groups

Guilds are always queuing up to go to BG, the first day they open they’ll have a feast that will fill them for many more moons on full status. Meanwhile, the peasant servers will be begging for leftovers with both hands open.

What world do you live on?

It’s a funny assessment that everyone but BG wants to be BG and that’s simply not true.

I wouldn’t want to ever join a caustic wvw community that pushes requirements or boot.

Sure, my server has guild raids that are closed or open and won’t invite people not on ts but we aren’t build/gear kittens.

I think that roaming is more about what you do rather than how many you do it with.

So if I’m soloing towers I’m Havoking and not roaming?

I’d call that roaming. I’ve always called havoking when you have a party sized group. I guess it’s semantics though. There’s no real defenition.

Havoc in essence should be the concept of purposely trying to pull enemies from your main contingent, all other small groups should be roaming.

A havoc group would be the one tapping / capturing everything on map on opposite side of their own zerg in hopes to split enemy zerg off. Tapping Garrison to allow your zerg to stomp bay…etc etc.

Solid havoc can really separate up another team on DBL.

Sneaking through tunnels just to cap greens left camp or ojs the left tower and way point in ebg to pull green zerg out of your land / SM attempt….etc…etc (green just example)

Roamers don’t have the intent to cause map group movement manipulation but rather are just trying to ppt /wxp cap as much as thier size allows.

I agree with this, it would further support guild invites that stick. Nothing like adding a bunch of good wvw and then delinking and realizing you need ton clean up have a dozen. (For wvw only guilds, not an issue with pvx)

Sure, occasionally my rush will end up being directed towards a monster instead of theach zerg I am following but it’s such a minor things.

I also like the idea that it’s a environment factor that can put you or enemies into combat which changes your run/regeneration and what not. Good for roam /havoc

Not that it’s applicable, but last night we wvw guild raid a “mesmer wvw training course” where we instructed guildies to only play mesmer and listen to veteran mesmer on TS teach class ins and outs.

It’s wasn’t perfect (hell, I played warrior…I got 4 80s and stacks upon stacks of tombs but I haven’t choose not if my last slot should be mesmer or something else) but we had a fat swathe of mesmers….

Was kinda cool, invis for days and tripling the visual size of your zerg it’s a neat concept.

Anyhow, that commander is missing a lot of the game…where are his revs?

After 10mins he probably has 0 participation. So there is no drive to item Farm tracks that way.

There are potential nefarious things going on, but I’d say auto run and went to bed is most likely.

But he could of been a spy reading team/map chats, back in the day when people “boxed” on everquest (today you can multi box multiple instances of the game on 1 computer) you needed multiple PCs. GW2 takes way to much attention to effectively box but someone could run a free account toon up to 60, log on to enemy server, auto run and read chat while playing their actual account on another device.

It’s not a Friday night, so they aren’t trying to over populate / force queue.

The good news is they aren’t trolling at the time, dropping random siege and pulling switches.

We are going to make several temporary Glicko rating adjustments for tomorrow’s resets.

Northern Shiverpeaks: +150
Northern Shiverpeaks has been leading tier 4 for the past several weeks and we believe that moving them to tier 3 will create more competitive matches for tier 4 and tier 3. This adjustment will give Northern Shiverpeaks ~72% to move to tier 3 and ~28% to move to tier 2.

Dragonbrand: -150
Dragonbrand is not very competitive at tier 3 and we believe moving them to tier 4 will give them a better chance at being competitive. This adjustment will give Dragonbrand ~83% to move to tier 4 and ~17% to stay in tier 3.

Yak’s Bend: replace +150 with +75
We believe the +150 adjustment to Yak’s Bends is now too high. They still need a slight adjustment to remain in tier 1 where they are competitive so we believe adjusting it to be +75 is more balanced. This adjustment will give Yak’s Bend ~64% to stay in tier 1 and ~36% to move to tier 2.

We evaluated EU matchups as well. Riverside, Drakkar Lake, Jade Sea, and Vizunah Square are the worlds that could be adjusted for potentially more competitive matchups. However, those worlds have good enough odds to move on reset without any adjustments so we decided to not make any temporary adjustments for EU at this time.

I am curious if your team has considered relinking servers early to prevent the concept of “Dragonbrand not being competitive.” Since what your team is saying is "we are putting this outmanned server against 4:1 situations and consider them not competitive. "

Our server team is in it for the long haul since you believe adjusting glicko is the more reasonable thing to do instead of giving thought to an early relink. As much as it pains me to say these words, Your team needs to sit down and work out a better relinking system and start listening to the community other than the occasional poll.

Dragonbrand - A Case Study in Sadness

@Radioactive.1248 now we are 6v1 and they teamed up on us for most of reset NA prime.

Gotta say one of them (wasn’t overly paying attention to name tags, kill red names and all) is very proficient in the stun lock game.

It was interesting because they field 50+ blobs and stun locked well but if you got around the rings of death they melted like level 20s in masterwork armour trying to wvw.

They also acted very strange about SM and we 17-22man capped it twice.

Was definitely a heavy fight night with quite a few “wtf was that? There is a million of them” or “holy kitten they have blobs on all sides of us.” At one point at North gate of our keep on ebg, I swear I saw 4 separate blobs.

But you are right as rain, as I’ve been preaching, we got fooked up bad and that apparently across all servers is par for the course, expected for dragonbrand for some strange reason. So much hate

Dragonbrand is, was and will be a strong server. We have the mettle and we run strong and deep into enemy lines undermanned and often come out on top.

We were wronged, and we are guildwars 2 players, which means we were all wronged, every single one of you werever wronged in what happened to DB, because it’s a game wide culture and anet supported systems that is slowly destroying the player base.

DB is an example of what can go wrong and what the problems are game wide that needs to be addressed. How many rage /quits will anet allow before it comes to bare that thier total game population in this mode is dwindling.

Well, the game doesn’t directly allow you to transfer gems, to directly pay fees, money transactions are only possible in strong limitations. Of course the game allows transfers between servers. But again: do you actually propose, that arenanet should stop people from changing servers if someone wants to join his friends on another server? What is your proposition that would have solved the problem for DB?

Of course arenanet does have a slight income through transfers, I personally doubt that anyone pays actual money for it though. Most WvW players play the game so much that they don’t have to spend actual money on the game anymore. And I also think that the community vastly overestimates both the number and the effect of transfers and “bandwagoning”, while it mostly are just fairweather-players not playing when you lose/when the commanders don’t play. While I agree with arenanet controlling linking, matchups, Glicko etc. I don’t think that arenanet does things that make you want to transfer at all and certainly didn’t in DBs case. Most imbalances in wvw are actually caused by other players/the community that have nothing to do with arenanet and all I see them doing is trying to bend the system in a way to make balanced matchups again. But of course there are things that could be made better, I also think Glicko should be improved for example.

I think “blaming” arenanet to play the system so you have a reason to transfer and give them money is both paranoid and unfair.
—> If they wanted us to transfer servers to give them money they would have implemented a serious reward for winning the tier. This small change would have serious impacts and give people a reason to actually care about winning.
—> With the linkings you can be on a dead server and still get active wvw matches. This takes away a reason to transfer off small servers.

I don’t think arenanet could make a system that actually encourages players less to transfer. You just pay money and have no advantage at all. As you will soon see, because fights in tier 4 are fun

I agree, there shouldn’t be limits on people transferring to play with friends or even guilds on a natural move. I am talking about massive exodus, so yes, there should probably be a population limit per time period for transfers.

I have no idea what the numbers would be because only Anet has the stats of populations when these things happen…younknow, maybe 75-100 people max per week or 2 weeks or months, I don’t know.

But it would slow down a mass exodus of 8+ guilds in 20days. That’s huge.

Will people inclined to leave still leave? Yeah

Will a server at least see themselves slowly losing ground and try to compensate? Yeah

Will a server go from hero to 0 like now? A little less likely, atleast people not abre ast to the guilds that are leaving will have time to try and regroup what’s left before it’s 9 spots down on the leaderboard.

@Jacion I don’t think that “getting bought” is that big a thing. Are you saying that all the guilds that transfered from DB were just “bought” by rich servers that play “pay-to-win” instead of the fact that they actually wanted to leave the server on their free will?
- If a guild is loyal to a server, then it will refuse transfer-offers.
- If a guild recieves a transfer-offer, then this is an offer by another player. This has nothing to do with arenanet, transfer offers aren’t something provided by Arenanet.
- DB players can make transfer-offers as well.
- Buying guilds/players doesn’t buy you loyality. This players and guilds will just hop servers again with the next chance they get.
- Like it was said in this topic: many guilds left DB not because of money, they left it because they didn’t want to be tier1 at first and others didn’t want to stay behind on a dead server in a high tier (because Glicko didn’t react fast enough DB was stuck in impossible matchups for several weeks).
- Everybody saw the guilds leave DB, it was no hidden secret. It also isn’t something illegal in any way, people are free to leave to other servers if they want to.

I think blaming Arenanet is unfair in this case, there isn’t much they could have done in the current system to avoid people leaving DB. They could have ajusted the Glicko rating faster, relegating DB earlier but would that have solved DB when they would have went from tier 1 directly to tier 3 or 4?

I understand that you are angry. But I think you should be angry at the guilds leaders that left DB in a hurry and the community that couldn’t stick together for longer. And then mobilize the people that are still on DB and show the guys that transfered to other servers what DB is made off and kick our behinds in wvw, making them feel sorry for leaving. I am sure with the next linking in a few weeks you will have a “resurrection” similar to YB.

I’m not angry, I’ve stated here on this actual topic multiple times that I am OK with being in T4 and that my server will lick it’s wounds. I am a loyalist and I will keep running nightly with what ever tags is running or directly with my guild. I believe in this game having a community that gives the fun in wvw, that’s most of the fun in wvw in just being on TS.

You can’t tell me that what occurred is not a failing in design across multiple issues, which does, indeed, include transfers. You also can’t tell me that anet doesn’t enjoy its most likely 2nd largest cash cow (transfers, 2nd only to cosmetics) or that anet does not have its fingers in the population game, they control glicko score, linking, and they control how population is calculated, which is wvw participation based, not server actual population base, AND they control server transfers in that regards, just look at BG being “full” or people in chat discussing when anet will “open up” a server to transfers.

They are knee deep in this game, it’s silly to think otherwise.

At the end of the day, I’ll be on wvw, running with my people…what ever tier we are, fighting the good fight and collecting bags.

But for all of us (well, maybe not wvw juggernaut BG, yall doin ok) , we need all these issues addressed to allow everyone who wants to participate in the mode, to not feel cheated. Yes, we all log on some nights and lose…that isn’t what I mean….I mean, there should never be a 9 tier swing, and that both scoring, score manual changing, bandwagoning, linking and transfers need to be fixed.

YB in tier 1: Why should a game get boring if people are actually trying to play the system? Try to find a way around it by defending, by guessing where they go and ambush them. If they maphop they can only come from uncontested waypoints, so why is it so hard to find them and fight them?

@Jacion the system atm gives no reason for guilds to leave a server. They have to pay for leaving a server and get nothing back if they do (as there is no reward for winning). So if they leave a server they do this because they want to pay for going to a different environment, this has nothing to do with Arenanet. They cannot forbid guilds to leave if they want to, or should they?
I am not saying you should have paid guilds for staying. I am saying that a community has options to keep them on their server. It is important to have an active server community that cannot just be replaced, to have loyal guilds and to have important people that can hold a community together. While all of this requires a lot of work of the community, this things cannot be provided by Arenanet. YB didn’t “disband” when they went to tier 4, they all just did take a break. I think it is similar with DB. And if not, then they are back to the population they had half a year ago before a lot of guilds joined DB when it moved up the ranks.

Disagree, it is a well known fact that guilds are paid by servers to transfer in. To the point that both my last guild and my current admit to fronting cold hard gold to buying guilds to transfer in in the past as well as my previous guild had a long discussion due to personal life changes with leader, as to weather or not sell the guild off for “good money”

That is pay to win for servers.

That creates merc guilds and bandwagoning

Anet profits on gem transfers, server receiving guild profits on increased wvw guild presence / winning and the guild profits by collecting massive sums of gold. The loser is the originating server who has no control over this.

Is this Anets fault? Well…that is deemed by how they lock out transfers to servers, transfer costs and if they even care if 200people+ transfer off a server in a short time.

Which they could clearly see just in gem transfer sales, they are well aware of events which there is a mass exodus.

If you witness a murder and you tell no one, are you guilty?

If you see a drug deaL and you get paid to keep silent?

Think it over, it’s a flawed system and anet is involved in it.

The TL:DR of this thread is that it seems that people also think that conquest mode spvp should just be everyone meeting up in the middle of the map and having a 5v5 instead of capping, rotating, and retaining points.

And you sound like conquest mode sPvP should be run around and cap and never encounter the enemy

@rink I disagree. There are multiple issues at play here however the bandwagoning out is supported by the current transfer system in place and your suggestion of pay to keep is just as bad as pay to get, which is what occurs now. A system that supports merc guilds is caustic and destroys servers community.

Is our loss of 1-2 guilds anets fault? No

Is a 3 week bleed of 8+ major guilds on a server anets fault? I would say yes.

Thanks for the information McKenna. Any communication, even if its not well received, is better than none, or doing stuff without anyone knowing about it.

As a Dragonbrand original from launch.. can you make it -1000? We really are not even hardly fielding enough to keep our BL atm. A group of five could take everything in about an hour in NA primetime. Oh.. and for linking.. How about NOT linking tier 1 and 2 guilds, which are pretty much zerg on zerg battles anyway, only starting at tier 3 and down? Then, change the links weekly, at reset, like.. you know.. when the matches reset.

Us server loyalist need a reprieve from being pwned nightly and trying to fight up a shear slope due to the new lack of numbers. I play NA prime time daily and our wvw guilds are pushing hard and doing fantastic with getting work done with 12-30man squads but you are right. We currently can’t compete with the zerg game and the mini havoc cappers due to population. We are running 2 tags a night now vs a month ago where we had 6 tags minimum across all 4 zones nightly and if we can’t do better then 2 tags in prime time, you know we have 0 representation at non-NA hours.

SoS, a T3 server, rolled down T4 for one week and LOST (They came in 2nd and only 3k ahead of 3rd). Your argument about how T4 cannot compete in T3 ends here.

Hm, in the weeks before that SoS kept pace with SBI, yet when SBI came to t4 they dominated them. Was that the week skirmish changes came in?

Also I think it’s obvious by now that DB is a t4 server and NSP is a t3 server since YB left those tiers.

I unfortunately can’t disagree with this after our 8+ wvw raid guilds transferring out and delinking.

DB has been decimated beyond recognition. I don’t care if we are T2 stable like before the pump and dump or if we are licking our wounds in T4. My issue is with the systems in place that allowed such a swing that a server gets destroyed.

You want people to quit your game? Throw a mid class server a huge carrot to 1st place and then curb stomp them to 10th place.

That’s a mother kitten 9 place swing, complete and utter insanity

  • Let us not forget that endless runaway also equals eternal chasing classes.
  • This sort of superior mobility is of incredible usefulness in WvW.
  • NOBODY should be faster or slower than anybody just because of the class they chose.

Then NOBODY should have access to more defense and have more health then others.
NOBODY should have access to more CC than others.
NOBODY should get more suport abilities than others.

In fac NOBODY should have a CLASS. lets all be gray blobs equal in everything.

Because forget about thiefs having no support skills, being naturally squishy and having no access to shield/invul/aegis whatever. Lets remove mobility because no one should be mobile.

Tinfoil hat time. Last weekend when YB was bumped to T1, I saw more Anet tags in WvW in one night than I normally see of them in many months. In one of the earliest fights, YB had three Anet tags in a single group. Realistically though, YB with a link and DK active are strong enough to be in T1 (even if they are boring to fight). I just hope Anet is willing to make the same types of adjustments when YB loses steam.

So to remove your tinfoil hat, those devs are in the same guild I am and play WvW because they like hanging out with their friends after work. Trust me, their influence on the game is probably less than mine haha (PS, I made it in to the tower :p)

As for the topic at hand, as someone on YB I was happy to get the adjustment because we were roflstomping everything. It wasn’t fun. At all. Regardless of whether other servers in T1 want to learn how to keep a map or not, the adjustment needed to happen or else lower tiers would lose population due to morale loss.

This newer system increases the turnover of servers due to the influence of the linked server on population. This is exactly what everyone said they wanted, so not sure what the complaints are about. YB will get relinked and drop and someone will come up to take their place. This system aims to end the circlejerk in the same 3 servers in every tier by making it actually possible to move up. In the old system we would have dominated each tier for 6 months before moving up which leaves nothing but disenfranchised players in the wake.

In my opinion, as long as servers/alliances are meta gaming this system and guilds are using the transfer system to stack servers WvW will never be able to achieve the balance it needs. As usual, thank you Anet for making this transparent for everyone and actually working to improve WvW!
