I’m fairly sure the Mobs spawn in two groups so if you are having issues you should be able to run off then come back and take them on in smaller lumps.
To be fair I ran in berserker style on my lvl 80 War and it was a pretty close call at time. Which to be honest makes it more fun : ).
Think the main problem is the game is full of people like me who see a new update elsewhere and think ‘ooh Shiny’ then run off en masse like the good little sheep we are.
OMG! SOMEBODY EXERCISED THEIR FREEDOM TO BE JERK WITHOUT EXPLAINING THEIR ACTIONS. I’M GOING TO GO CREATE A POST ABOUT THIS ON THE FORUMS.
Fixed for you.
Gear grind does not bring in new players though. It drives some players away, keeps some current players slightly longer and some hooked like a fish. The target for the company is fresh box sales and gems, not gems bought with online gold. If they keep players on a treadmill that means that players get gold from in-game which from a business standpoint is not a win.
They in my opinion will not put this in the game.I would have agreed with this statement 7 months ago, but since they did actually add gear progression already…it’s sorta moot. The same thing was said with the addition of ascended gear when it was released, the game didn’t die, they didn’t remove the gear to get back any players who said they were going to leave (most in fact did not) or remove it because they all of a sudden started losing players. Ascended gear was a good move for the game overall apparently. They keep adding more.
Only because ascended gear is not a necessity, in the form that it’s in just now with minimal stat boosts and the main function of the gear (agony resist) being restricted to fractals, which are fine due to the repeating nature meaning the only gating is to more difficult fractals, not actual content, but if they open up parts of the open world to a genuine gear grind then you have a whole new ball game.
I believe ANet should avoid gear gating outside of fractals at all costs. There are ways of making games without mimicking every other MMO ever made.
True, they shouldn’t gate content behind gear walls. But something the game lacks is progression, gear or otherwise. If the Living Story had been permanent content, that could have been a form of progression in and of itself, with no gear grind involved and something new players could have looked forward to when buying the game or something older players could have done with alts. But since they decided to go the route of temp content, there is still no progression which some players like to have to add a feeling of growth to their characters.
The game is sorely in need of some sort of progression mechanic outside of the personal story. With 7 months down the drain with temp content, new games on the horizon (better or not), and an aging player base, something new will need to be added. Whether that ends up being more gear or some other form of progression should be interesting to watch.
Yes I agree with you on this, I’m not sure how it could be added to the current build of GW2, maybe some of the open world areas being super hard to simply travel through (not just irritating like Orr), to the point where it requires a group to simply reach places, then open world bosses and etc. at the end of these areas, something that actually requires some serious coordination with people to get going, more of a Social Gate instead of a Gear gate.

NO!
One of guild wars 1 AND 2’s main selling points was NO gear grind, and a lot of people like it that way, including me. If you want one then go and play a game with a gear grind. It has been publicised from the start that there will not be a gear grind so don’t act surprised when it’s not there.
I love gw1/2 for the same reasons, I hate gear grind too, it just seems its a necessary evil.
I see where you are coming from but I think there are ways around it, as in GW1 cosmetic items are a good way, plus achievements, I don’t think they have it right yet but I don’t believe adding a stat grind is the way to go.
Any feature that punishes casual players over hardcore players is a bad idea full stop.
I’m hoping they will keep the living story evolving, plus add more achievements and ways to work towards different skins etc.
NO. I believe ascended giving any bonus to stats other than agony resist was a huge mistake in the first place.
Say NO to the gear grind!
NO!

Something to note:
The Dragon Bash isn’t ending when Sky Pirates starts – they’re concurrent (or you could view Sky Pirates as the final phase of Dragon Bash).
Actually we just discussed this the other day: the transition seems so fluent this time, if not for the Dragon Bash achievements being “done” now, I wouldn’t even identify the next part as the start of something entirely new.
It’s very fluid, I like it. (Hasn’t always been the case.)
Thats a fair point, maybe if they didn’t parcel the achievements up into their little batches it would seem a lot more fluid.
I for one particularly enjoyed the investigation that panned out over 3 days, the actual story could have used some work but I liked the style.
Good for you.
Now stop complaining and let those of us who enjoy a changing world play it.
It’s not that I don’t enjoy it, but I want to do it at my own pace. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
The world keeps it’s own pace. If it didn’t, my daughter would not be closing in on being a teenager. (That poof sound you may have just heard was another hair turning gray.)
I think this is the third post today demanding that the pace be at their own and not the rest of the worlds, would be nice if we could all live in different time streams, but unfortunately that’s not reality, otherwise I would still be 5, something nice about being able to get away with just about anything : P.
Anyway, define your ‘own pace’.
ANet have stated that the world is going to change, if it hung around and waited for everyone then surely that would kind of defeat the point of the system?
“Try backing it up with some arguements that aren’t entirely self centered” that is how you ended your post in response to me.
And your attitude of “don’t like doing it then don’t do it”. So your answer is to not take part in the Living World or Events? Not something I would be promoting if I was Anet for very obvious reasons.
Well let me point out that in this thread it has already been proven by statistics that it is a “Grind” something I do not mind doing I value working to earn something. I am a 7 year veteran of GW1 and believe me I know about grinding for rewards, armour & titles.
I invite you to watch the Guild Wars 2 manifesto video and see for yourself what Arenanet says about grinding: “We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2”
I am happy to grind and work for items and rewards. I appreciate there is always going to be some element of grinding. I was commenting on the constant spam of new content back to back. Which is leading directly from one grind to the other. Something which i do not think Anet intended and certainly stated was not in their vision for GW2.
Look I understand your point, I’m just pointing out that time scale (your main point I believe was about it being rushed, not the grindy nature) is a relative thing, and I felt that the 3-4 hours of play it took me to complete the story and get 8 achievements was entirely reasonably, if not a bit short for a 2 week long update. THAT is what I meant by self centred, your argument is about YOU, not based on any sort of evidence that people are having issues with time, just how YOU felt. That is a self centred argument.
The only ‘statistics’ are in relation to the jade weapon skin which is ANets way of making money, so the only other option is really for it to be a direct cash skin. Is that what you would prefer?
Although have you seen the next update news? New dungeon which will hopefully be as good as F&F, plus chests that aren’t drops but appear to be in hard to reach places which sounds interesting. But you still have until after the first week in July to compete the current achievements so you have plenty of time.
Also as for the manifesto, I wouldn’t bother with that any more, its been pointed out hundreds of times by now that ANet was talking absolute crap when they came out with that. Which I am annoyed at too.
Ill back off now, enough forum arguments for one day, I will agree though that I would prefer to avoid any form of grind, but I’m curious as to how to do that, I’m always slightly dismayed by just how quickly someone like Dulfy has everything completed when its not got any form of grind. And I feel that stretching the updates out won’t alleviate that.
Ive played a few hours a few nights this last week and got the shattered wings, plus a jade skin and all the mini’s, I wouldn’t exactly call that a grind.
That’s awesome for you, but as per the recorded drop rates, the average player had to open ~2000 coffers to get a ticket.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon_Coffer/drop_rateA coffer seems to drop every 4 or 5 mobs. So on average that is 8000 to 10000 kills for a weapon ticket.
Yes, some people were extremely lucks, and others extremely unlucky (such is RNG) but the average says: yes, this qualifies as grind.
My point was that it doesn’t HAVE to be a grind, if you don’t like doing it then DON’T. You won’t get the item but you are not entitled to it, nor should you be, go work for something else then. Yes I was lucky, I wasn’t grinding for it, I just got it on my 250th(ish) crate.
I think its good that some stuff isn’t that common, if you don’t get it then hard luck but there will be another update along soon so go do that instead, you should get the wings easily enough, they just require the achievements.
As for the OP, as far as I can see you are saying that there is lots to do to achieve certain things i.e. the achievements that result in certain rewards, if you don’t want to do the achievements, then don’kittens as simple as that. But bear in mind that you are complaining about the pace of things which is an entirely relative thing depending on who you are, as I said I was lucky BUT I did get all story done plus enough to get the wings in only a few hours play, and this has easily been the most intense update yet, some people have it done in a night and are then bored. What about those people? Shouldn’t we speed it up for them?
I guess my point is that the fact thakittens too fast for YOU is not a good enough argument to base a complaint on in an MMO. Me and all y guild are loving the pace, even though most of us are casual player. I’m not saying I don’t see your point but try backing it up with some arguments that aren’t entirely self centred.
Actually, I haven’t checked the dates, but I suspect I’m actually going to be away midweek to midweek. The wedding is, I think, on a weekend, while travel times were chosen for cheaper tickets (it’s expensive enough as it is, since my brother is in the UK and I’m in Aus…)
So what are you suggesting? The game should wait for your real life events to be over before carrying on?
Anyway, its available for at least 2 weeks each time, so you should have plenty of time.
Ive played a few hours a few nights this last week and got the shattered wings, plus a jade skin and all the mini’s, I wouldn’t exactly call that a grind.
You also have several weeks to do it in, easily achievable by even the most casual player.
If you don’t want to do it then don’t but seriously I can’t believe you are complaining about having too much to do.
Maybe instead of combining looks and stats they could simply swap instead? Then you get 2 pieces of kit, one with the old look and old stats, new look and new stats.
Save me having to buy a new bit of exotic kit each time I find a new bit of gear I like.
I dont mind the small fee or having to go to a trainer, its just that there aren’t enough trainers around, we could do with one either BY each dungeon or IN it. And in common outposts just to encourage build creativity. I haven’t changed mine in ages because I’m on a bit of a mission and its too much hassle WP’ing out to a city to find a trainer.
Heres hoping we get some new skins with those shoulder pads.
Love JP’s but I am so bad at them its quite depressing sometimes, next to no coordination and terrible timing, but oh well Ill be the corpse lying at the bottom pleading for a res.
I in the same boat as you OP, love just diving into events and helping people out, even to the point where I completely lose track of what I was trying to do, its what makes the game fun for me.
Having said that I do find GW2 to be one of the most courteous communities around, most people will throw a TY at you after giving them some help, and there is very little griefing (though what some people are doing with those new horns comes close, some very tone-deaf people around).
Just remember that the internet tends to breed some very self centred people (look at the afkers in dragonball), but most are nice enough, so all you can really do is enjoy the experiences while you can and write off the rest as bad apples.
I would love it too, maybe if they added one of the wallpapers from the update page as a background, would make the loading screen more interesting and alert people more directly as to what is going on in-game.
Well there have been hints of new steam punk armour from this next update, how it comes into the game has yet to be determined so there is still hope.
Good for you.
Now stop complaining and let those of us who enjoy a changing world play it.
I for one am enjoying the pace, it gives me something new and interesting to do, even if they don’t always get it right, they are certainly learning and it should improve over time so give them a break.
As for the in game codes you can’t really blame ANet when someone goes data mining.
Yes please, only played it 4 times but was great fun, wouldn’t mind it being free for all.
Personally don’t think they look anything alike, just generic dark clothing. Not much to base a claim of copying on.
Unfortunately I’ve seen hint of something called the ‘Aether Stash’. Which Sounds to me like their next crappy RNG attempt.
They all replied while I was typing, useful information though for when i get my wings.
Erm isn’t the skin just a skin, surely the bit that’s soulbound is the item you put the skin on? Did that say soulbound on use in its description?
Hey, just be thankful you aren’t from a western society who uses ‘Logan’ a lot, possibly the most dull and predictable character in the game.
At least your guy is doing something interesting.
I’m liking the story, especially how it unfolds day by day, almost in real time.
The cut scene in the tavern was great : ).
Want more.
As the above poster said, chance is chance, some people have got it in less than 50, less than 10, some in more than 1000. It doesn’t matter what the actual number is, its still chance and therefore not guarantee’d no matter how many you open.
Someone has found the codes for them, so I’m assuming they will be released at some point.
Shield?[&AgGuqQAA]
Mace?[&AgGtqQAA]
Scepter?[&AgGrqQAA]
Pistol?[&AgGvqQAA]
Sword?[&AgGzqQAA]
Rifle?[&AgGyqQAA]
Hammer?[&AgGqqQAA]#
Try these out, some of them look quite cool.
My Mesmer loves both of those weapons. Ive been waiting for a thin rapier style sword for ages, I’m really starting to hate how all MMO’s seem to think weapons have to be massive to look good.
This is one of the first solo instances my warrior has ever had agro issues with, I think at one point I had 8 normals plus a vet on me and I had to rally 3 times to get through it. Its tough if you are not a bit careful.
Which makes it one of the few instances which is actually fun : ). Even if it is simple.
Has to be the level 80 ‘of rage’ etched weapons for it to work as far as I know.
Not sure if I’m making this up but I’m sure the lion guards who were the official guards of the monarch in GW1 were an Elonian based guard, which does have Lions so maybe thats linked.
Im guessing you have seen it now but next time read the notes where it says ‘every 2 hours’. So waiting for 1 hour might have been your problem.
Why?
15 Chars
Chief approves so it must be done!
I would say the reason people with skill tend to get flamed in the mediums you are talking about OP (forums and chat in LA) is that there is no way to prove they are skilled.
Your first sentence: ‘Claim to be skilled’.
THAT is bragging, and no one likes it, it comes across as arrogant, and makes you feel like the person speaking is trying to make you feel inferior.
No one here is claiming that real skill is bad but surely you see why people don’t like others who go around ‘Claiming to be skilled’ in a place where proof is impossible?
I dont understand it when it comes to the Dragonball mini-game.
You get one achievement for 20 games and another for 20 wins, why not just play and try to kill 2 birds with one stone? On average you will complete 10 of the wins in the time it takes you to do the games.
I’m assuming people are just giving up on the wins bit?
I experienced a similar thing, I was quite enjoying the run/WP from place to place bashing holograms. And since I don’t have much time to play over the next month and have to kill 300 of the things I need to do it this style to get the achievement.
I was sold on this expansion when I realised I could make my character endlessly puke from eating too many sweets, and the fun of opening 200 boxes (one of which contained a ticket). Now I just want that mini.
Same here with the fused, got a single key from one of my dailies and got one, friends tried for ages and got nothing. RNG is RNG.
in the middle of a giant catastrophe we saw fireworks and ran off screaming “FESTIVAL!!!!” and left them there to die.
Lol that was me alright, distracted by shiny things.
OP This is a good thing, skins should not be super exclusive, there will be a limited supply but it won’t be a requirement to have to be there at a specific time.
I started this last night and ran around like a mad man doing everything, got to 135 of the holo kills etc then actually stopped to think and realised just how stupid I’m being. A whole month lol.
I think you might find yourself slightly lonely with that view, personally I think they look great, not all weapons need special effects.
Same as all the others then, I do the shatterer quite often and always run the pre’s. Last time there were roughly 100 people waiting for it, and about 5 people doing the pre.
Its disgusting, especially as people just sat and waited when they could have got a (small) reward for just doing the pre, and you have to wait for a slow caravan to get to the WP before it even starts so you can’t actually miss it if you do it.
Seriously? I hated the loading screens in GW1 when you didn’t know about updates then suddenly you would have to hold your group up while people with different net speeds or caps had to load up for ages.
Also; Unnecessary download? You would prefer if people could pick and choose which updated they wanted?
