I definetely agree, there are some paths I would love a harder version of.
If you are on Ring of Fire Ill run with you, you just need to make it clear that you know the dungeon so take the time to learn it first and people will let you play.
Depends what you like, the warrior is very in your face with its skills, and provides good but straightforward group support using shouts, has pretty good AOE etc, I play my main as a warrior, you will find it fairly similar feeling to a guardian.
The mesmer requires an entirely different playstyle and is all about mis-direction, its fun but tricky and you will have to get used to adjusting your movement etc when you switch.
One way of getting through is to simply run, thats how I did it, there are plenty of speed buffs and just make sure you have some condition removal for the cripples/KD’s. Its really pretty easy to get around if you are built for speed….
When you are grouped it appears to take the group damage into account when tagging for you as long as you manage to at least hit the mobs once, so often you will get loot for every mob you even touch when in a group which makes your rewards much greater.
I have a similar issue often, most noticeable is the Orr events, ok I understand it helps to group for the trash, but I will stand and attack a veteran risen from 90% to 0, lvl 80 warrior, rare lvl80 gear with power and cond damage, sword and axe in hands, and get no experience or loot. Its not like those things go down fast or anything, so i did plenty of damage.
Try telling them that this is an alt and you’ve run the dungeons plenty before, experience is far more useful than gear.
I was in a party last night and they took me (only run AC exp once before though done the others loads, which I told them) over a lvl 74 who had run it hundreds of times. I’m sure they would have done it far better with the other guy.
Drake, I know the feeling but I found that the way to solve it was to think about all the different mechanics that GW2 has, some of which can make a fight very easy to do, Ive been doing PUG groups quite a lot and been finding that after a few runs to learn the mechanics, most trash mobs and bosses are really very manageable. And btw I am by no means an elite player, to be honest its usually me that screws things up.
They just require some patience, also a useful hint in this game is that conditions and CC rule. If you can stun/blind/cripple/weaken/etc mobs with a good spread across the group you are halfway there, also try to do your best to spec for support gear.
I play a warrior which is admittedly one of the easier classes just to jump in with but I can aoe heal with my shouts which also add party might, regular party condition removal, and targeted weakness. Thats before I start crippling, dazing, and knocking down everything I can touch with my hammer.
Just remember that these effects are 10 times more effective when spred across the group. Also my hammer smash spreads effects from combos everywhere which just rules.
Ive just started playing an ele so dont have much experience but Im sure there are ways of working it out to make a good dungeon build.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune Look at these runes and start thinking about the best support based cohesive build you can come up with for your play style and class, and spec your armour to suit.
Hope this helps a bit, if you happen to be on ring of fire islands I would be happy to play some dungeons with you, Im Jam the Bam in game.
‘Passive health regeneration heals by 30 health every second and is unaffected by Healing Power.’
At the bottom of the Dolyak Rune wiki page.
You can also get it from Karma vendors in straits of devastation.
My favourite is the Dark armour you can get from Karma Vendors in fireheart rise, it has full coverage and spiky arms, helmet and feet.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Dark_armor
(Says PvP but you can get it from PvE too as above)
Also works well with banded chest and legs.
I would like to find that too
Excellent work, thank you, I was going to do this for myself but you beat me to it : )
25 here and most of my Guildies are early 20’s aswell (I think)
I found that sometimes when I log in, if I go to the Black Lion trading it won’t show my Gems, when this happens I also cannot use my credit card or buy anything at the trading post, I usually relog to sort it.
This might be similar to what you are experiencing?
Name: Jam the Bam
Story: Human, Vigil
Mission: The lions arch sewers (Sorry can’t remember actual name)
When fighting underwater in the sewers, at the first bunch of barracudas and jellyfish, there is a straight horizontal tunnel with a right turn at the end.
First of all where you are at the bottom of the vertical shaft the walls will allow both the monsters and the Vigil warmaster who accompanies you to pass through the wall and get stuck, I think it was at the bottom, on the side furthest from the long corridor. This bit can screw up the fight.
It gets worse at the right turn at the end of the corridor, the characters can pass through the wall both to the left of the turn and at the bottom just after. This means that they become obstructed so you cannot fight monsters and the warmaster gets stuck and dies behind a wall.
Often the monsters will go invulnerable and reset at the same time.
This also happens with the undead scout (the final fight of the mission), It spent 80% of the fight invulnerable, I’m assuming this is not meant to happen, there did not seem to be any special skill or anything it was using, I just couldn’t hurt it until it moved a bit.
I have completed the mission but it was frustrating, please take a close look at the wall joins.
This isn’t that essential, but when a human warrior stands still with his weapons out, if he has an axe in his off hand it drifts into his helmet when he moves his arm, this is annoying as it happens continuously.
A small hint Redjuice, they occur roughly every 3 hours (I’ve only done the shatterer but ive heard the rest are the same) so if you ask in local you can get an approximate time til the event starts so you aren’t hanging around too much.
I hope they add new DE’s without telling anyone where, maybe add some story with hints but no definite information, change the world a bit. I would love to be running around somewhere familiar and find something new happening nearby without knowing. Giving exact places etc ruins immersion.
I suspect a lot of peoples problems with DR type grinding issues is that they didn’t play guild wars 1, the point is that there are some items/titles/deeds etc that are meant to take a LONG time to get. And I mean a long time. Most of the stuff in GW2 is easy in comparison. Personally I do not think you SHOULD be able to get a ;legendary without a serious amount of time put in.
If you cant put that time in then relax and do something else, its meant as a reward for people who can, there are plenty of nice skins out there, just go find them. MMO’s are based around time put in, all games are, so if someone else has more time then they will get stuff faster, if you can only put in 3 days then stop whining, thats life, just enjoy playing, and 120g for a legendary is less than i expected.
This game is not meant to be a grind, but there will always be grindy rewards in every game, which is why there is no stat buff for legendarys, its just a prestige thing, and one which would be worthless if it wasn’t stupid hard to manage.
On the skin topic, has anyone found a fiery gladius (NOT a fiery dragon sword) anywhere? and if so, where?
Hmm is there any way to take damage yourself other than jumping off a cliff so I can test with and without armour?
I had this idea for a while that I would like to work towards armour that has +Healing/toughness/condition dmg so I can go a sword main hand with utility (axe/mace/warhorn) off-hand (and probably rifle secondary) and use the regen signet for self and healing shouts combined to make a support(ish) build that is reasonably tough and can stack bleeding on anything that gets in range. I would probably have a few +power additions in there as well but that is the general idea.
What are peoples experiences of the above traits and how well do you think the build would work?
I don’t have much time to experiment so any help would be much appreciated.
Edit: Traits would be spread across strength or arms, defence and of course 30 in tactics, I need to play with the build editor a bit to decide.

I just realised this last night (slow I know) but this has made the most difference for me:
Hold control highlights all enemies and yellows (including collectables) in the direction you are looking.
Especially useful when visibility is low, like underwater, and you can’t quite see all those Krait hanging around….
I was fine reading along until ScourgeMcDough mentioned Shiro.
Now that was hard. Gave me a proper shock when i encountered him after the rest of night fall being pretty doable, then you had to do HM for the title….
Nothing in the dungeons ive encountered so far gives me the same feeling of Oh kitten….
I played most of the game with a seraph sword, just trucking through PvE content, and didnt really hunt for skins, which is maybe why I didn’t notice until I started wielding a shiny plant.
I think ill go have a look through this PvP locker and see what I want to find.
I play a human warrior and I’ve not noticed this at all, most swords look pretty much, well, sword sized. What skins do you notice this on?
In fact I’ve been annoyed because most of the swords I’ve had (apart from the silvari skin ive just picked up) have looked too normal for a magical fantasy world, where are these massive swords of yours? I want one.
The risk with removing the posting fee or being able to change already posted orders, although the 2-5 day timer the OP suggested is an idea I like, is that the game is liable to become like EVE where you can micro adjust every order on a regular basis which means you need to become a full time trader to actually live off the trading post, the purpose of a fee like that is to prevent fluid price changes, which is also where bots start to shine, and you will never beat a bot at undercutting (although it does leave some interesting options open for playing the market, if you look at some of the tricks eve players have pulled over the years).
I think we need an auction house aswell because I like the double option (buyout price and minimum sell price, combined with bidding) and it also gives you a reasonable chance to profit without having to micromanage orders.
+1
The bright red handlebar tache I gave my character is getting a bit old now….
I can’t wait to play some of the other classes, love the warrior but its fairly straightforward, I want to try out some of the more unusual class mechanics.
Less than a day and people are complaining they can’t speed run a dungeon after a change that is meant to sop speed runs….
They are meant to be hard, there will be a way of doing it if you are just willing to experiment.
The fiery gladius (not dragon sword) was my fave from GW1 too, took me ages to find one.
I would love to have one on my GW2 warrior.
I found that frost (I think) dye that works pretty well as a white, I would link a pic if I wasn’t at work.
Im fairly sure that before the shadow behamoth himself spawns there are a load of smaller DE’s in the surrounding towns like the monestary where you have to defend against shadow invasions. Only when those are complete does the big guy spawn.
It might just be complete coincidence but thats how it worked in my opinion so you might want to check the around the area after talking to the book person.
LIKE.
Love this game.
The sound the hammer makes will keep me happy alone for a long time.
Why has this become a discussion about the trinity in a game that has advertised for YEARS that it wont have a trinity. Deal with it. Personally I hate the trinity and thats why I love this game.
If you want a trinity play WOW or Lotro or any one of the games that does have it. Otherwise stop complaining about it and look at getting your build sorted.
And just because guild wars 2 is not about the trinity does not mean its not about builds, thats the most important part, as in guild wars 1.
I love that my warrior can do ranged AoE (longbow), and do crowd control (hammer/mace), or go for AoE condition damage (Swords, I love swords), all in the same dungeon and theres lots more combos. And at the same time I can heal with my shouts which ALSO provide fury and condition removal etc. So for the OP thats what I love playing just now.
Also the hammer has the most satisfying noise in the game.
Of course this build does have to fit in with your group which is why I would like to be able to see peoples builds, link them or something like you could in GW1. Then you could build a group properly and cover all the bases, it could be done with different classes/methods each time but you do need to cover them all.
Also I hate when people try to use a trinity that doesnt work. I laughed a lot when our ‘tank’ died 15 times in a storymode dungeon last night when the rest of use (ele’s included) died about twice. Why wont people leanr you cant just stand infront of a mob and soak up damage? It just doesn’t work.
Learn and adapt.
(breathe)
I agree, Im not there yet but I want to be able to craft the exact stats I need for my build (which is a bit odd compared to everyone elses [healing power, condition damage, toughness/power probably] and I expected to be able to pick any combo I wanted when I got to the top.
I agree, I would like to be able to make a group while out exploring in time to jump/run to the dungeon when everyone is ready instead of hanging around waiting so some form of lobby would be good, Not so sure about a common area but maybe lobby that allows people from different servers to join each other so you can always find a group easily.
Im A GW2 fanboy but to be honest I agree with you almost entirely.
I like the game because Im a casual player and I want to spend time playing other games as well and still make progress in a reasonable amount of time, that works, there is a truckload to do and see (especially if you like pretty scenery/armour like me, ever sat spinning ships in eve?…….).
But I understand that a lot of ‘hardcore’ mmo players aren’t in it for the looks, just want to grind/get armour/ etc. In that case GW2 will not work for you.
Personally I really enjoy the random exploring (Im distracted by everything) and gameplay, its fun, the movement and speed etc is enjoyable to play when you get it right, when you get it wrong you die, as it should be. I played wow for a while and Lotro, max level before recent expansion but the combat and systems just aren’t interesting, but thats just personal opinion.
However that aside I agree entirely on how misleading they were before launch, the whole permanent changes to the world (mykitten and the ‘when its ready’ when its not thing annnoy me when coming from a company that I respected (I love GW1).
And when people are having to tell you how to play to enjoy it the something is a bit wrong (although some people do seem to be missing a large portion of the game).
All I can really suggest is keep making the point in a structured manner so the devs (who have always worked hard to make changes at arenanet) can push things in the right direction, in the meantime just relax and wander and see all the extras the game has to offer. Even if those centaurs are at it again. Next time they’ll stop.
Then again i do agree entirely that you need to be able to see more attacks coming so you can actually do something about it in time. And some balance would be helpful.
I personally haven’t found the dungeons anywhere near as bad as is made out in this post, I also play as a warrior, my favourite weapon is a hammer, while some bosses are difficult to deal with, you can always apply weakness/vulnerability which is incredibly useful, and while the stuns dont last long and you cant knock back the bosses, I have noticed something useful: With the hammer knockback ability, while it doesnt knock back, it does interrupt, which goes a long way to helping control bosses.
There is plenty you can do, and the whole anti melee mechanics so far I have found to be avoidable once you learn what to look out for.
The only dungeons I have experienced before are in LOTRO and to be honest I found the whole ‘this is your role, mash these buttons in this order’ style to be incredibly boring. GW2 dungeons on the other hand make life interesting and I always feel like i’ve achieved a lot more after completing them in comparison to LOTRO. You have to adapt constantly to the style and most importantly MOVE, all the time. The number of people I have seen who just attempt to stand directly infront of the mob/boss and then die and complain that they can’t melee is unbelievable.
Then again all of this is just opinion, I enjoy them, maybe others don’t.
I Concur : )
Love this game, so much to see and do. Ive been getting sidetracked all over the place, takes forever to get anywhere because I want to see EVERYTHING.!
Also my human warrior looks awesome (Fireheart rise Karma armour, its Spiky)

Can I ask an honest question of those citing how much better WOW is?
As the above post says, 9 years going, fair enough, thats a lot of add ons and development, but what was the original WOW like at launch? How much has it changed? And how much changed due to player complaints?
Personally I play GW2 because I love the casual exploring play style but thats just personal opinion, also I like shiny cosmetic things and GW2 is just plain beautiful. I couldnt play WOW because it was too much of a long grindy slog for a very casual player, again just personal.
But please, if you dont like the game just make constructive criticism of it using reasoning and examples so the game can improve, not just bash it using phrases like ‘this game is boring’ which is a purely personal opinion, and not something that you should EVER force onto someone else. Either that or just leave so you can stop putting off potential new players who might help improve my favourite game.
I agree fully with the OP, I followed this game from conception, being a GW1 player, and it is pretty close to what it says on the tin. Apart from some marketing bumff but who believes every word they hear in marketing? (I bet MoP wont look much like its trailer graphics wise, because that is every bit as misleading as the worst ArenaNet has said).
Lornars Pass
Mainly for the same reasons as Mea loves Timberline falls which is the next map in line which I haven’t got round to doing yet, loved the mix of snow and green valley and the area is just stunning. Plus the missions and characters you meet are interesting, especially fighting off the Steam Army.
Harathi Hinterlands also rules, love Centaur Bashing.
A close third would have to be exploring the brand from the field of ruin North.
I think this is a very good idea.
They had a vaguely similar system in guild wars 1 with the instanced missions where you have bonus objectives which generally increase the difficulty of the mission but you get an extra reward and XP for and are needed for completion titles.
Things like completing the mission in under 20 minutes, or taking down an extra boss, or making sure x villagers are saved.
A similar system in GW2 would make the dungeons way more interesting , on top of the variations they already have.
I used an hour long armour booster last night and it had 15minutes left when I logged in this afternoon so I guess they must maintain them
Which is good : ). Never waste a booster minute.
I agree fully with this statement.
It really gets on my nerves the number of people complaining about things like not being able to farm dungeons etc. Well if you can’t simply enjoy the game for being the game then you need to go play something else. Its as simple as that.
Although I do agree with some of the whiners who have valid points, most are simply making a fuss for the sake of it, if there is a genuine problem it will get fixed.
I played last night through a lower level zone (Lornars pass, and I’m level 58), just running around and joining in events when they happen and just generally exploring, didn’t get a huge amount of XP but it was the most relaxed, fun, baggage free experience I’ve ever had in an MMO. The area is beautiful, the events have character, the area is unique and I love the characters you come across (especially the Norn challenging people who tried to cross a bridge which turns into a DE). There is so much to discover if you take the time to do it.
My advice: Just RELAX and enjoy the game, what’s the hurry?
My experience so far is that the story line missions are perfectly manageable if you play them right, Im a human (warrior) playing the commoner (I think) and now vigil story lines and have very rarely died, a few seemed very difficult until I changed my tactics/skills/weapons. Which is one of the reasons i love this game, there are so many variations on your play style and build that theres always a different way of approaching a situation, maybe you just need to experiment?
