I also checked. I cannot get the Wintersday Meta without 10k drinks and 2,500 candy canes. This is unacceptable!! You are making it literally impossible for me to get this Meta in the time period it is active. I don’t have gold to buy what I need. I have to earn it. So what do you expect me to do? I’m literally incapable of finishing a Wintersday Meta for the first time ever.

What can’t you do? The Jumping puzzle and.. ?

Plus now that you’ve successfully locked the higher tier servers, there is no way for us to move and get the real experience anymore (we could argue that before we only had to pay to go up there but at least there was a way to.).

The only locked server is Jade Quarry.

So? Tell your guild leader or whoever (I lost track in all that hobbit stuff) to give the needed permission to whoever he wishes to. If not and you don’t like how things work out in that guild(s) – leave.

ETA: “but but but it’s importaant and stuff” – it’s his guild – he is the one who decides who gets what rights.
I’m a guild leader myself (oh noz) and gave all permission to my buddy as well – so we’re two leaders with different ranks and whenever I decide to throw my computer out of my window my guild should still be fine – but that was my decision.

Not a bug, they simply forgot to adjust the skill.
Anyway, thief or everything is that broken in my opinion that 1k more healing won’t really solve anything. So if the next balance patch will be:
Elementalist: buffed a, buffed b, buffed c…
Ranger: buffed a, buffed b, buffed c, buffed d
Revenant: Buffed a,b,c,d,e
Thief: Fixed a typo in the tooltips, gave withdraw the 1k more damage promised in June last year

I wouldn’t be too surprised.
I sound cynic, don’t I?

ETA: I also wouldn’t be surprised if they just leave it like it is – balance, you know?!

I think what I’d like to have right now:
Open WPs on the borderlands and on EB, I guess the green keep is still contested 24/7. Class balance, revenant hammer 2 being nerfed, the interaction of boon stripping/CC and stability being revised, some more class balancing afterwards (as I can’t run in a zerg as a thief (anymore) if it’s not pirate ship).
There’s so much wrong right now that it’s really hard to tell whether or not these changes will have the effect they should have.

I had all the initial gifts the very first day. I ended up with 360 ish drinks that day. The 2nd day I ended up with 890 drinks (without the initial gifts), and the 3rd day I ended up with nearly 1200.

Funny enough, the first day was the hardest imho. I spent too much time in one go on Bell Choir and it became tedious. Now I just alternate between dailies and Bell Choir, etc. It’s so much more do-able.

Ok, although it’s very hard to believe that it’s “just a bit of choir bell” as every full round gives about 25? presents. And presents have got a 80% chance of dropping beverages.

Nope, I do a few rounds of Bell Choir, do my Daily, Bell Choir, Daily crafting, Bell Choir, Daily Fractals, Bell Choir, etc. I have 1200 drinks already and I haven’t even logged in today. If I keep this up, or maybe even step it up a bit, I will have it before the end of the year, without the TP. It’s very very do-able. People whine to much. Sure, it’s grindy, but Winter’s Presence is like the endgame of Wintersday 2015. You can’t expect it to be easy.

So you did count the initial gifts you got for doing this stuff (achievements) in – it will be a lot harder afterwards.

The candy cane is 2.5k, not 25k iirc. Also, by just playing a bit of bell choir each day I get almost 400 drinks a day. The JP and the PvP event are way to stressful to succesfully farm.

EDIT: Also, it’s been like this since GW1. It’s almost like a tradition. But keep the salt to a minimum, as it does tend to melt snow.

I doubt that you’re really getting 400 drinks/~500 gifts a day by playing “a bit of choir bell” – are you sure you don’t count the initial achievements in? As you’ll get quite a lot of gifts for completing the achievements, not so many afterwards = farming the skin without the TP is impossible.

ETA: Maybe it is possible if one is into the jumping puzzle which I have completed only couple of times.

Frostbitten Gathering Tools??

Jana.6831

They weren’t a drop last year they came from opening wintersday gifts or buying them for ugly wool clothes.
And they were the best thing from last year’s wintersday. I bugged my buddy who just started to play (“but I don’t need them?!” oh the naivity) to get at least a stack of them (gifted him a stack of woolen sweaters – I was dead serious!!).
I knew they would be gone this wintersday. And I hope they will remain as they are until there’s none in game anymore.

ETA: The reason why nothing is better than these: You can equip them to level 15 characters. So my lvl 18 warrior who watches my home nodes for now 2 years while carrying my worthiest possessions (aka: mule) can farm snow truffles and elder wood (don’t have more nodes yet). And I don’t have to watch the gathering tools on my characters (usually sometimes I’m cheap and get copper if they’re doing map completion of the starter zones).

10k drinks [Merged]

Jana.6831

As a serious farmer who doesn’t really mind repetitive task: This is a grind (first time I say it).
You can buy the drinks/gifts from other players and you can spend all your karma and snowflakes on gifts, but it’s very unlikely that someone really is able to farm this if things stay like they are. Not speaking about the boredom of doing the same stuff without end for a few weeks.
The event is smartly designed: we flush out all stuff we got from the past years and only get consumables for it = no traces will be left from this wintersday. The downside: the usual thrill of opening gifts is “maybe I’ll finally get xyz”. Not the case this year.
One needs either the candy or drink achievement to complete the meta – so I guess I’ll aim at getting the candy and then call it a day.

ETA: One doesn’t need either to complete the meta, I didn’t see that my snowball mayhem achievement thingy was still unfinished. That’s good news for me actually as now I can relax and just play wintersday as I wish.

PvE players: “Please can you gives us harder and more complex counters. Can we have different roles that need filling in a party. These classes are in a good spot but these other classes can’t keep up, can you give them some help.”

PvP Players: "nerf this and this and this and that and this and nerf this some more and nerf that. That nerf broke that skill? Good nerf it some more. I have to dodge that skill? Nerf it and those 2 other traits on a differnt class to be sure. Then nerf this and that and this and this…. "

And PvP players call PvE players the casuals.

Human brain > programmed enemies – fighting another player is ten times harder than mobs – so you can believe pvp players that some skills are “OP”.
F.e. I’m playing the weakest class with the weakest spec of the game – the people I defeat in wvw make some really stupid mistakes, otherwise I wouldn’t stand a chance – but I can still solo tower lords (on EB) just fine.

Very well, sorry for the misunderstanding. I still think there wasn’t so many glaring weaknesses pre hot (the few weeks before) across all classes except maybe ranger in PvP. Sure many classes only had 1 viable build but a lot of classes were seen and used all the way up to top level even if double ele and double scrapper were a thing.

The damage all classes dished out got way higher with the June 23th patch – the vitality though stayed the same – why was that balanced? It wasn’t – people survived because they got the cooldown on their blocks reduced or their healing got higher. Still that was where the imbalance started – to blame the state of the game on only the elites would be short sighted.

So post or pre June? As things were wrong post June already it just got a bit worse with the elites but the problems were already there from June on.

Before or after the nerfs to PU, mirror blade, mantras reverting back to clunky to use?

Pre June mesmer was only slightly better off than ranger and necro in PvP and WvW a portal/veil bot, roaming DP thief completely countered them.

You might not believe it but my life doesn’t revolve around mesmer – I’m talking about balance as a whole not about certain classes.

Bloodtide Coast was actually where I observed the problem while levelling (first character, been playing a couple of days, doing hearts for karma/exp/getting the measure of the game), hadn’t come across any farmers until then. I just made up my mind there and then never to approach anyone who was farming. A couple of new players who made that mistake were yelled at so I learned from it -shrugs- I can honestly say I don’t care either way about the nerf but remembering people complaining on the forums about being reported as griefing for accidentally tagging/killing a mob when they had no idea what was going on… :/

I already said that I’ve been there as well (did several map completions) and never came across any toxicity. I came across “toxic” behaviour in frostgroge though when anet decided to make an event’s fail more lucrative than it’s succeed and also tied the personal story to a successful event. That was for about a week.
So, why didn’t I encounter any toxic behaviour on the bloodtide coast or in Queensdale when it was such a huuuuuuuuggggeeee problem?
Or are people just used to being put into cotton wool so they think that everything is “toxic”?

ETA: I still think tehre were several reasons why this was nerfed – and I’m not sure it had to be nerfed that hard – but alas. We will never know the exact reason why is was nerfed as the complaint threads about the farmers came up 3 days after the balm was brought into game, yet it was kept like it was for 1 year – makes you think, right?

Yeah of course and with me 20 others who were on that map at the time.

ETA: Believe it or not; there are bots and probably more than you or I think – I have friends who are capable of writing these programs and who alarm me every time they see a bot, of course with “Oh my, I would have written that programm wayyy better than this dude!” And since I’m a farmer myself I know what is odd behaviour, like porting after every node – which is of course hard to make out as you don’t know where they’re porting to. If soemone disappears after mining rich nodes that’s a different thing.
But that guy with the 8 bots was definitively a farmer with 8 bots as he stopped throwing Maize Balm after he was called out and the bots just stood there while he was angrily defending himself.

Is “toxicity” a problem? yes. Still the maize balm was left unchanged for a year.
Is people making a lot of money a problem? No as this was a gold sink for anet – everything sold on the TP is a gold sink.
Is people using bots to farm these bags a problem? Yes it is and I saw it – one guy with 8 bots.
I guess it was several reasons that led to that nerf.
ETA: And btw I’m still pretty sad that the queensdale farm was nerfed. I miss it, although I never really participated but that map seemed lively because of the chat – and no people weren’t “toxic” – at least not on my server.

You have a point, deceiver, just that condi necros are always the reason why I go back SA if I don’t have it as they apply that many condis in that short time that it’s impossible to get them off – without SA or without sword 2 or an evade build. D/P is basically no melee set, so they don’t have to wade through aoe to get to their opponent, that’s why I brought that up.
And I’m not saying DrD is a dowgrade, just that it doesn’t really work for me. I don’t feel it synergizes well with the rest of the traitlines – but since most of them are in need of some work maybe it all will fit together at some point. And I’m sure that people with different weaponsets/playstyles can make DrD work for themselves.

I have no idea or real opinion whether or not this change should be reverted but the nerf was typically anet: “We could nerf it a notch or into oblivion… umm, let’s do the latter!!”

ETA: And I farmed the ambients in wvw – our north camp – there was never a problem. All enemies who stole my bags where annihilated, all (but one) allies who accidently killed the candy corns sent the bags to me. And they had someone guarding NC win/win. I’ve been using it on siege, because there’s literally nothing else. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to add other stuff, seriously.

Though forging siege doesn’t seem to be a good idea atm. It costs like 13-14s in elder wood and mithril to do a single blueprint. If you do buy orders on say, superior rams, you can get them for around the same price. Even if you buy instantly, it’s 18-19s, meaning if you forge, you’re basically getting 5s per spirit shard, which are limited and is a very bad rate. It’s pretty easy to burn through these things too especially considering how painful reinforced gates are.

Added to the rather slow mystic forge interface, and it just seems like a waste of time. It’d make more sense to forge anything else using your spirit shards, and then just buying the siege outright or placing mass buy orders; be so much easier on the wrist. Or just use notaries I suppose.

I have several stacks of siege and actually worked towards spiritshards because of siege – to me badges are a problem. So: this isn’t too bad for people who have masses of badges and don’t know what to do for it – not so sure if it’s good for me (I’m really stingy when it comes to badges as a solo roamer/scout for the most part).

Why do we need to learn to play the elite specs? Who thinks that’s our task to do?
No one in PvE depends on me, I can play as badly as I like (as long as I’m not in a dungeon/raid but people surely would kick me if my usual PvE 111 isn’t enough).
The same cannot be said about wvw though.
Superior siege bought with proofs costs more badges than forged and to make place for the proofs the badges for a rank up have been removed…
I should be fine though – the only thing that bothers me is all the bank/inventory space for the proofs. And I think this game can live with me having only 2 elite specs unlocked.

So thief is “extreme” burst? This isn’t 2014. Also burn guards while annoying, are easily countered.

Thief is not extreme burst?…Just stop using your bunker build and see how that works for you and burn guard? …Again drop your bunker with plenty of condi clear and try to play simple DPS build with 1-2 condi clear…it’ll be fun

A pure glass thief hits me for around 9k, a zerker warrior hits me for 13k with eviscerate, a mesmer for 13k+ with his shatter combo, revenants hammer for 8-16k.

I have been pretty mad when I was a noob and found that my ranger didn’t do decent damage with his longbow (2 years ago) – now I get why this should’ve stayed like that. And I guess I had also understood without setting a foot into wvw.
Now raids might be something differently but anet can always nerf the mobs without them complaining on the forums.

Wow. For someone that talks like they know everything, you sure are wrong about a lot.
Have you ever even set foot in WvW? Because if you had you would know that you do not see enemy health bars unless you mouse-over the enemy, you only see their names. So, there is no benefit to seeing the names.
CTRL+SHIFT+H hides EVERYTHING!
I don’t want my whole UI hidden, ONLY the players’ names.
And I’ve already repeated myself several times but here goes one last try, the option to hide all player names DOES NOT WORK when you are in a group. You should not have to forgo squads just to hide player names.
If you can’t understand these simple concepts, then I am just going to assume you’re a common troll from here on out.

You can see my rank in the screen shot.

Idea: Overpopulation Debuff

in WvW

Posted by: Jana.6831

Jana.6831

I think some people are missing the point so I’ll clarify why OP bring that idea in the first place.

First of all, let’s say 2 years ago, WvW was contantly active in every tiers (with the exception of T8-T7). And there was this thing called “Zergbusting” for those who still remember the term. Zergbusting was when you had a group of, lets say 20, and you could kill a group of twice your numbers (in this case, 40). BUT, since the stability nerf (For those who don’t know, stability was stacked as duration before, not intensity) Groups like these have hard time to “ZergBusting” anymore since the only way to survive now is “Blobbing”, But not everyone likes to do that and those people get punished for being overwhelmed, and you can’t really make “good plays” anymore since stability is so easy to lose without getting corrupt boon’d.

How about partly or completely reverting the stability change?
I mean you already realized what the problem is, yet still listed megaservers and better rewards as the solution – they’re not – people will leave because there’s always a time where you’re outnumbered and not standing a chance is frustrating.

ctrl shift h = you don’t see anything
options: hide all players names – you will only see names if you have the players/npcs/mobs focussed and probably in a party/squad – didn’t test it there

So, come again?

Ok last try: if you care about your squad you want to see how their health is, the left thingy is insufficient for that info – so you better see their health bars on the field – also the enemies’ health bars so you can down someone who’s half life.
If you don’t care about that info you don’t care about your squad.

You sure do have an answer for everything don’t you… Can you please give it a rest and just appreciate that the option to hide player names does not work in all circumstances and that some of us would like the option to hide the clutter of names without losing any other functionality (like joining squads, etc).
If you don’t want the option then begone already, there is no need for you to continually respond to this thread.

Why are the names important in WvW? If it worked like it did outside of WvW and I could just press alt to temporarily bring up names, it would be fine.

Something as simple as a small red dot above enemy players would be far better than the immense clutter of names that all but hides the players beneath them.

Edit: In fact, I do believe there is the option to have enemy players appear in red armor… So a red dot is not even required and I fail to see the importance of player names in WvW.

You already have that option, that’s why I don’t give it a rest because you don’t appreciate that you have that option.
And you don’t get why the names health bars are super important in wvw – so I assume you’re not serious about wvw if you don’t want to see that info – and in that case you don’t need to be in a squad.
And because you don’t know wvw you assume that all this info is unimportant, but even in raids and dungeons it’s not.
So before anet wastes time and “improves” an option you already have…

ETA. It’s important to see enemies as soon as possible, and with that also allies. You need to know where to place your bomb if the enemies are half life, you need to know how the health of your allies is – that in every game mode.
It’s pretty fuzzy to find the one in your party at 10% health- and it gets even worse if it’s a zerg/blob. Unfortunately the names are tied to the health bars – you don’t really need the names but the health bar – that’s the important thing. A lot of people already said that instead of “XYZ bronze invader [guild]” there should be an abbreviation for the server name – and that is actually something I would support.
But something you guys would want wouldn’t be used, because the info you need is hidden.

Yeah, but you’ll die almost instantly because you can’t see chat, your healthbar, your cooldowns, your minimap (which can be helpful to see where the commander is headed).

Oh, btw: you can already turn it off in the options as far as I remember.
Yeah, you can, uncheck “show all player names” and that should do the trick

Solo PvE: Weak compared to other classes?

I suppose it is a moot question.

Not really since the topic of this thread is solo PvE (not only HoT).
The point isn’t how well you can kill mobs in a group full of boons, the question is if you’re equal to other classes alone.
And well, fury every 20 seconds isn’t that great.

I just did WvW for the first time and I honestly can’t express how much forced player nameplates ruins it for me… I pressed CTRL + SHIFT + H and wow does the game look simply amazing when you can actually see the massive battle taking place. But because nameplates are forced, all I am able to see is an army of blue text fighting an army of red text. Please, devs… Try it yourself. Tell me it isn’t a night and day ‘wow’ to see the massive battles taking place without the nameplates.
You’re hiding the beautiful game you’ve created behind cluttered blue and red text.

You can see more colours actually, yellow for guild, green for allies, blue for squad/party and red for enemies. I’m really used to it and like to be able to see their health bar – from both allies and enemies. I’d like an option to have enemy (player) name plates only though, for extra blobby times in which I need to quit because my computer can’t handle it anymore.

There are plenty of servers that are dying – I bet you won’t find more than 25 of anyone at any time of the day.

I get your point but this “demand” has led to where we are now. And well “lags” shouldn’t be a reason to deny others who like to run in blobs their fun.

ETA – ok, this was only partly what you meant, I guess. (OP)
What if I tell you I know a group who can destroy 60 with 15 without siege?
Would be great if anet encourages this so we don’t need to force people to do stuff “we want”.

Yeah thieves and wars need a huge buff, no denying that

Yeah, reading is really tough
So, go out there with your D/D thief – have fun!

Ive actually played around 8k games, but whatever. Also only noobs qq about balance. Balance in this game is fine besides war/thief which needs to be brought up to other elites level

Play some thief, preferrably D/D thief (absolutely lethal especially in pvp) and then you’ll see what the other classes can do. They have basically no opening – it feels to me (wvw, I don’t really play pvp) as if everybody just memorizes some rotation and goes over and over until either he or the enemy is dead.
In wvw against a thief I hit around 6 (dire) to 9 (zerker) k. A full zerker thief has got 12k HP. So lets just buff thief damage so that they will one shot each other. Every other class on the other hand has got their passive and active invulnerabilities/protection, tankiness, boons and stuff and massive cleave – even if a thief hit for 30k he wouldn’t really have a chance. So best would to be to tone all other classes a bit down and rethink the formulas for tankiness/damage as they seem out of control since June.
