Not to be blunt, but so what? If you want to make a daredevil for WvW you need to spend some time on a Thief, which makes perfect sense since more than 80% of your tools to build that daredevil are still shared with the parent profession.

I can play any character in pve and am doing fine – I would prefer being able to do so while playing the game like I’m used to/how I like it.

I’m fairly certain XP earned in WvW is applied to core Tyria masteries, but haven’t sat down and really tracked it — I just know I’ve had masteries I’m not even training on complete themselves and WvW is the most likely culprit.

I don’t think so – but I didn’t sit down and tracked it as well.

What are you talking about? If you have full map completion you only need another 40 Hero points to max an elite spec… that’s about 16 WvW levels and you can get that in a couple hours of knocking over supply camps, much less any ‘serious’ WvW activities.

You want an elite spec? Play. The. Character.

Wvw is a competitive mode – there’s few players who can play all their characters well enough to sustain in a competitive mode (I’m one of them) = it is very likely that someone will only play one or two characters in wvw because they are the ones they know best. There’s 13 or 15 hero points in wvw, there’s no loot, no xp for masteries, no nothing. So we’re basically forced out of wvw.
My characters will have 100% vanilla map completion and I’m pretty sure that will be it as I’m not feeling like doing all the new jumping puzzle maps 13 times.

Can we just please remove these thingies? I don’t need them anymore – I usually only play one character, so he’s my main in wvw, pve (and pvp). So naturally he will have all hero points unlocked eventually but has got a stack of proofs of heroics for which he has no use for (no, I won’t buy siege with it).

Back in the day warriors banner could rez a dead lord – so they have been a lot tougher back then.
We rallied in our keeps and fought endlessly and had fun.
Now another strategic element has been removed – oh well. I really can’t care anymore.

Nah, we need a second staff line, like “melee staff” or anything, both could be used for caster or melee but it will always be 2 instead of one skin for staff.

I used the steal to swift my allies – mostly while repping stuff in wvw.
But in the end, thief is dead anyway – so just nerf it some more, doesn’t really matter.

I’m running D/D for nearly 2 years now – can we please keep DB? It is working as intended and if you know how to handle it it’s really great actually.

I cant get on board with [press x to live and maybe win] but I’ll defend this viewpoint to the death on the grounds that we have difficulty in all of our other builds with similarly passive procs floating everywhere.

Tldr as long as Sword Rev is a thing, this too shall pass.

I have been using DB strategically to reposition before HoT. (I have no chance against any class since HoT, so guess all I can say is: “I think it still is useful”
Anyway, I was fighting a condi D/D, DrD thief yesterday with CS, SA and DrD and his condis got me after 4 mins (yeah, that fight really lasted that long)- so I guess the evades from DB alone are just fine.

And like you said: as long as teh other classes have almost infinite evades and blocks I think we should be allowed to keep DB
(Btw, did you know it’s Karl’s favourite skill?)

Not so sure actually as balance patches are usually announced and every upcoming nerf and buff is listed – also we’re in the middle of a pvp tournament..

Tigaseye, you’ve been making some really great posts. Sadly the daytraders are incapable of understanding your points. They’re rich, so kitten you (in many ways the economy in GW2 and the arguments and insults here seem like a microcosm of the real world economic issues, with the well off throwing around words like lazy and entitled. And to me that’s one of the biggest flaws in this game. A lot of us struggle with finances in the real world. Who the heck wants to log into a game and have the same worries!?) I honestly think some of them possess zero empathy (laughable for someone who thinks he is an expert in psychology), are unable to understand that people have different interests and that a good game should cater to multiple interests (regarding fun, rewards, etc.) They’ve got theirs and since they enjoy that method of money making, which also happens to be the best, then everyone should too. It’s ludicrous.

And honestly, I wish they would just go and play EVE already…

I have several k of gold and I don’t flip the TP.

Yaks aren’t useless, they lower the time for the next upgrade by 5 mins if they reach the objective.

The Sentries are probably nice but might need a slight nerf, like range nerf or duration nerf.

The notifications shouldn’t be in my field of view on a spot where I usually place my AoE as I’m usually not standing around idle in wvw.

The third part of your list is pretty much what I agree on.

But it would be great if these changes were made bit by bit so we can see how the map improves with each change and if more changes are needed.
A lot of stuff is still bugged so bug fixes would be important for that as well.

Since I have said everything I had to say plenty of times, you guys just miss it: reread before you think you can judge about what I’ve said/or meant – btw the last passage of your post didn’t make any sense, sorry.

There’s too many passives in this game, there are too many tanks in this game who can hit harder than a zerker, there are too many blocks and gimmicks in this game = it’s spam to win. And I think that’s sad actually as mesmers used to be my favourite opponents, fighting them was fun (like chess) – nowadays I can’t even hit them because their traitline merging brought them all these passives – horray.

@OP – it very much depends on what game mode you’re playing.
I’m having a blast in PvE with thief too. Not sure if I’ll be able to do raids, still haven’t figured out how to deal “optimized damage” – this is another of those moments in which I wish I could equip 3 weapons.
In wvw the overall damage of all classes still is too high = no fun (to me that’s a huge problem).

Anyway, I kitten ed around with my thief and staff on the new maps yesterday and then went on to level my Rev. The class and it’s mechanics are intriguing – I really like the ideas behind it (I was surprised actually as it is kind of genius), but after a while I realized that this will be like any other class I’ve ever played – get it to level 80 and then shelf it. No matter how weak and broken thief is, I just love the class – and I have no idea why.

Apharma, I dont think anything will be accomplished by this. There is a clear misunderstanding as what an Invulnerability is versus a one time block that can be easily ignored or stripped via an autoattack.

Signet of Inspiration has always provided random boon generation every 10 seconds, it was buffed in June to provide guaranteed Swiftness for 5 seconds every 10, a very needed and desired QoL improvement for mesmers. Nothing else on it was changed. Just because you got Aegis a couple times isn’t that impressive. It is one passive block with a chance to proc out of a boon pool of 7 other boons. The mesmer can also run Prismatic Understanding and have another RnG based chance of getting Aegis, or stand in Chaos Storm. That is all.
If you are playing a thief, mesmer, or any other kind of burst class its your responsibility to make sure that your opponent does not have defensive boons on before you land you burst.
If you are bursting into Aegis then that is your own fault and another matter entirely. As it stands Ive listed the different types of invulns mesmer has, and linked the page to where you can find a list for other classes invulns. Please learn the difference between that and a block, evade, or defensive boon.

My “Autoattack” is backstab, please just try thief to see how much work goes into a backstab which I can’t land if there’s aegis.
And all this kitten is applied passively and no one has to think – and you guys don’t even know about all this stuff, you probably just wonder how you get out of situations you shouldn’t win.

ETA: And altapharma: Thief has got no protection. The only half protection is the -25% while stealthed (when traited). (ETA²: True, with the expansion we also have a block) Our means to be stealthed for a longer time = making use of it is usually SR though which is a gigantic red circle one can spam Aoe into = I need damage reduction while in there anyway. For the rest: Please read your post history and my posts – and with “reading” I mean “reading” as you accuse me of things I never said as you obviously didn’t read what I wrote.

I have no idea what they did to mesmer – I just know that I can’t hit them anymore because they’re always invulnerable to the hit I want to land – and I don’t want to switch to SB4 just because their passive kitten just decided to give them aegis while I’m already about to backstab – I can’t avoid that.

Signet of inspiration grants 5s of swiftness and then a random boon every 10s usually for 5s. It can be any boon except swiftness, quickness and resistance as far as I know.

Yes, it can be any boon of those listed and it’s always swiftness – I tried it and got aegis ~every third time for 11.5 seconds. And maybe it also affects what boons you already have, so if you’re below 70% and have already regen and protection you rather get a new boon on top of that, which would be retaliaton or aegis likely – Just stand around with your mesmer for a while.

It is extremely random though so it’s not like mesmers are running around with aegis, protection and regen up most of the time. It is however used a lot actively in small groups for gives excessive amounts of long duration boons.

See above – and see what I wrote in my last post.

Chaos is a popular line for roaming mesmers because of PU. There are 2 minors, one granting 10s of regen when struck below 75% and the other granting 3s of protection when you get regen, both with a 15s ICD.

I just don’t see why you singled out mesmer for passive invulns almost immediately when you have classes (including thief if you pick them) have similar auto procs some of which are much stronger. I know warriors aren’t in a great state but them and engineers are the masters of auto proc save me kitten.

I singled it out because you bug me about “mesmers have no protection let alone passively appield” each time you see me mentioning mesmers (and others) invulnerabilities.
I get that no one wants their class to be nerfed but if you read my last post and this one and also remember that mesmers have got passively applied protection/invulnerability/aegis on a very low cooldown, their clones, portals, shadowstep, invisibility, active protection – when should I hit them?

I hope someday you’ll get my point – it’s not against mesmers per se but against all the passively applied invulnerabilities and OP skills that “one shot” with one press of a button.

The issue is that in a lot of cases, not only is the precursor crafting more expensive than than the base precursors, but it is also time gated. It doesn’t make sense to spend 1000 gold crafting a precursor that costs 200 gold on the TP, for example.

I lent some T7 mats to my friend yesterday – he looked up the price before “let’s see, deldrimor should be around 2 gold.. what the kitten?!”

What does that teach you? Right the value of these mats are made by the players – just like the precurser prices.
And since everybody is free to make these things themselves they have an option to bypass the “ridiculous high price of T7 mats on the TP” – once enough people smarten up T7 will become cheaper while precursers will become more expensive.

Since this thread is still pretty offtopic:
I’m not sure if aegis would be a guardian shield on mesmers, otherwise that really could be the tiny bubble I mean.
I stood around with my mesmer yesterday. She had the signet of inspiration and also the chaos line and would randomly gain aegis for 11,5s – so that really could be what I mean – and whenever she got swiftness and regen she also got protection (3 boons on her: swiftness, regen, protection) – maybe that’s a bit too much tbh. 11,5s aegis possibly every 10 seconds (although it did not renew itself while I watched it = every 20s), -33% of damage possibly every 10-15s at any time with a higher chance when below 75% (signet and minor).
Yes, I should pay more attention to the boons on my target. Anyway, my point still stands; too much passively applied protection since June on a lot of classes.

I couldn’t care less about the loot and well, the combo thing was kind of wrong and the “ground targetting” isn’t really my type as well as I already have to do a lot in a fight, clicking an enemy each time and each time after they’ve stealthed would cost a lot of time. “Auto attacking after target changed” could be removed though and looked into some skills that target you no matter what.
Other than that I agree with the OP although I think some things can’t be solved like “all runes being viable” as that depends on the current meta; I don’t think it will be possible to make all runes and sigils really viable but they certainly could be improved and there’s just too many of them.

Yes. It is. The reason for a veteran commander tagging down is not necessarily the same as why no one new tags up. Many times the vet has already “been there done that.” Just going back pre-HoT, I’ve seen strong servers absolutely collapse in a match if their main veteran, celebrity commander decides to take a break. At worse is when I’ve seen players complain about WvW on certain servers because of a lack of tags, as if they are owed leadership. What will happen when all the leadership quits?

Funnily on my server a lot of “new commanders” are tagging up and it usually ends in a disaster. The vets are tagging down as well though – so somehow I think it’s partly the same reason no one tags up: Because fighting is no fun anymore. A new commander who burns a few times won’t tag up again. A vet commander who burned 1000 times more often “burns out” and won’t tag up anymore.
There are other reasons for people not tagging up though. On my last server we really didn’t need a tag – that was an exception though and it might have changed in the meantime.
Yes when all leadership quits, wvw will be dead – until something changes and fights are made fun again (I’m not talking about the new BL, btw).

ETA: I don’t lead because I hate TS and I’m not a “commander type” – wvw isn’t pve in which even the commander can afk most of the times. A good commander really does a lot -and it is frustrating to fight against bugs, OP mechanics and bigger blobs as smaller groups have been nerfed. I think that is the problem why wvw is so frustrating for a lot of people.

ETA²: Also of course the lack of skill of the pugs – when I started I ran into a very sweet commander who explained everything to us – but I admit that this is a lot of work and people come and go so the basics have to be repeated every day.

I really hope more players start to realize that’s the result of laziness/lack of interest on the part of new people to start tagging up and taking over than it is on the part of the old commanders who are burning out and want to either quit or spend their time doing other things in this game.

Combo fields are lacking and some do the same things leaping a smoke field gives stealth so does blasting it.

Smoke field + blast = up to 5 players stealthed
Smoke field + leap = you are stealthed

Same with every other field

You’re right, that’s why I felt bad that I couldn’t figure out what that trait/skill? was – but a friend of mine noticed it too but he also mains a thief, so he doesn’t know what it is either.
My ele has got a near constant shield on her when she switches attunements: fire shield, earth protection shield, air shield or air daze/stun. On top of that active shields with at least D/D.
I can just say that it’s very hard to hit enemies since June. And it seems logical that it had to happen as before you could only chose 2 full trait lines, now you’ve got 3 – so a lot of the nice stuff is now “availlable multiple times”.
The enemies I could still kill from June on were mostly necros who have no real protection.

My inital comment was about why no thieves and warriors were on the teams and I tried to explain it from my view – that’s when the mesmer discussion started.

No, mesmers are doing this since June, they never did it before – and this (skill you linked) has to be activated but they basically have aegis like guards – I think with the last mesmer I also used dancing dagger to remove the bubble, just like guard’s aegis.

ETA: And really, all mesmers have this when I first hit them (unless they’ve already been in fight for a while) – they often don’t know I’m even there so it has to be a passively applied invulnerability which renews itself during the fight though.

You’re right, then I don’t know what this bubble is that mesmers almost constantlyy have around them – but really: I can’t land a backstab and since they often don’t even know I’m there that thing is definitively passive.

Edit: And yes, I’m complaining about all passively applied invulnerabilities, no matter the class, except it’s once per “fight” and with a reasonable cooldown (something at 25 or 50% health – depending the class) – Guards are a bit different as it’s blocks that’s their “thing”. Mesmers now have invisibility, blocks, invulnerabilities, protection, passive regen and their clones – GG.
It wasn’t my goal to single out a class – that’s what you guys did.

At least mesmers, partly guards, eles have got passive invulnerabilities – so it’s not in their hands when to “spam them”. Oh and scrapper – constantly invulnerable.

You’ve said this before. In the interests of staying constructive is there any chance you can list these passive invulnerabilities, especially the ones that are not in their hands?

I already did before – not really in the mood to look up all traits again.
I guess go to metabuilds and have a look at the most popular mesmer build and then you will find it – my backstab never hits as mesmers are almost constantly invulnerable.

So far that’s 2 people on the thread that say they’ve been on the map when it’s been queued or closer to full. Of everyone complaining, that’s 2.

I don’t think everyone would ignore WvW if they took out EBG, by the way. And I didn’t say take it out forever, just take it out for a week to see. There’s really no harm in trying these things. People didn’t quit for golem week any quicker than they’re quitting for the current state of WvW.

The map gets worse the fuller it is – or you need 3 guild groups a 20 to play it properly. And hope that the attackers are also 3 groups a 20 and not a blob.

Fortified walls look as if they’re full health but they’ve actually 0 – I’ve seen this now ~10 times. (Veloka, several walls in SM and maybe in the green keep, but not sure).

I mained ranger for the first few months in GW – 2 years ago.
They were pretty weak as a power ranger, which I have been (I didn’t play pvp or wvw back then though). I have had my kitten handed to me as a thief by several rangers ~1,5 years ago. Then LB was buffed and it still is in need of a nerf as the way it has been buffed was really lazy.
Point: Ranger itself is really clunky due to his pet – at least for 1,5 years now they’re doing pretty good damage wise, but their clunkyness wasn’t good for most pvp matches. They were basically a static ranged thief and that doesn’t work in a 5 vs 5 environement – doesn’t mean they were underpowered, just that their weapons and means to move fast weren’t enough.
I was still really good as a ranger in open PvE during LS1 and even dungeons.
Thief on the other hand is completely destroyed in all game modes.

Except on what level are you referring at? Mindless spamming of your invulnerabilities will do no one good, and even if you assume it does not, it can be punished or countered.

At least mesmers, partly guards, eles have got passive invulnerabilities – so it’s not in their hands when to “spam them”. Oh and scrapper – constantly invulnerable.

If would’ve had a little more sympathy with your statement if there was a lot of passives going on, but this is, luckily, not the case.

It feels differently to me To me all classes in this game have got their passive and passive and passive blocks and invulnerabilities and unfortunately I can’t switch to condi mid fight.

So for what it is worth, yes, I do agree that the other 7 professions need to be looked at, most certainly the balance in damage versus sustain.

Yes, all classes/players should have some times in which they can be hit, otherwise it gets old very fast.

I snipped pretty brutally because in the end we’re kind of on the same page, I think. There’s not much room for classes that don’t have that many passives. You can’t interrupt a passively applied block as a warrior, you can’t time when to hit with a passively applied block as a thief.

Edit: And since I don’t think that this is competitive play but just facerolling I’m arguing against plain buffing thief (and warrior). That wouldn’t really solve a thing and I don’t really want passives which would be the only “real” solution against the mindless spam of other classes.
Edit²: But alas since the next balance patch will hit ~ half a year from now the new mindless meta will have enough time to show itself and I’m curious if it really works out like I think it will.

In order to make these professions desirable they need overhauls. They need distinct roles, niches, in order to be desirable for teams withouth making other professions obsolete. How ever, this does mean that some of the design choices from late need to be looked at and adjusted accordingly – but flat out buffing or removing weaknesses of professions is most certainly not the way to go

No, we’re currentlyy in the mindless meta in which everybody is invulnerable for the majority of a fight, so can go zerker or even tanky and dish out as much damage as a zerker, so those with less invulnerabilities are going to lose. Necro has got his death shroud instead of invulnerabilities. So, I think most of the thieves and maybe warrior agree that buffing their classes wouldn’t really change anything for the better – it is in fact the 7 other classes that need a nerf.

ETA: If they’re not nerfed then look at the game again ~6 months from now and it will be endless fights without deaths, like D/D cele ele vs D/D cele ele before June/HoT.

And, what I’d like to add: I don’t really have a role in wvw and pve but I’d still like to have a place.
