I agree with the Op actually, although I wouldn’t miss the writs weren’t they around anymore. I’m doing less than one PvE daylie a day, so it takes me ~ a month to get 20 to turn them into a tome of knowledge – which are useful for me as I can always use spirit shards. But even if the droprate was increased, they constantly clogg up one of my bank spaces which is annoying.
No, a dev explained that left and right mouse button will stay as they are. I think you find it i the thread about action camera in this forum.
ETA: there’s the thread

It’s explained in the OP
(edited by Jana.6831)
EotM should have been implemented in WvW from the start as a rotation with EBG or as a new borderland.
I think it’s a shame now that we have 4 maps but only 2 are used in WvW and 1 has been completely removed.
No it was fine – I never wanted new maps no one I know wanted new maps but a lot of the people the forums complained that they wanted new stuff.
The EotM map is aweful in my opinion. The new borderland is quite ok, but I prefer simple maps in general.
It would be nice if there were different borderlands but it’s very likely that they would turn out unfair, so I guess that’s why there’s only one borderland.
You know, I was just in wvw – enemy blob chasing our zerg on the walls of SM – I had food and full healtha and was insta downed – what appeared on the log was 3 and 7k it was 2,5 and 5,7k from a meteor shower I didn’t see. That means something is bugged – obviously the missing red circle and that I’ve been insta downed by a fraction of my HP (~17k) or some killshot is missing – and that really makes me mad!
For me that is the thing that is killing wvw. I’ve been in EotM at the very start and it was carnage until they figured out that they can farm karma and loot and rigged all matches – that’s when I stopped playing EotM and I only used it to level 2 out of the 8 characters I’ve created since. Except from at the start EotM has never been like wvw – two different worlds.
ETA: In short: I never played wvw for the loot or wxp or exp. And none of my friends did.
(edited by Jana.6831)
PvP > PvE > WvW
The loot from PvP is insane. Awesome exotics galore and you get to CHOOSE the chests you will get!
Also: Transmutation Charges. It’s the loot you always wanted in WvW but never got.
No real argument for me actually. The rank up chests are ok. The loot the bosses drop is ok. The new nodes are really nice (although I miss black peppercorns from time to time – I used to farm them in NC).
Transmutation charges, well.. my characters usually get one or two outfits once they hit 80 and that was it. I have somewhat close to 200 charges, so.. and wvw map completion dropped them before wvw had been taken out of world map completion.
I really don’t think the wvw loot is that bad.
I’d rather have anet fix what’s wrong with wvw/the game than bringing another new mechanic into that mode.
I never really felt as if I was getting too little loot – the upgrades did hurt though.
We’re almost at a trinity anyway, so it doesn’t really matter anymore, I guess. Back in the day I’d say that healing power influencing the reviving speed would create a trinity. “I thought bobby was going to rez you – he’s got more healing power”.
And well in wvw my thief rezzes faster thanks to the nifty traits. Thank god most people don’t know too much about thieves so I’m not put into a role.
EotM is now like wvw – it should’ve been like that from the start as EotM was created for those who wanted to play wvw but stuck in a queue.
No, the regular wvw “is like it was” at least reward wise – we’ve got a new borderland though which is all buggy and a bit complicated so it might well be that there’s no dorito to follow.
Reduced Edge of the Mists rewards.
Reduced event karma, gold, experience, and world experience by 25%.
The number of Badges of Honor awarded for capturing an objective has been reduced to be consistent with other WvW maps.
The chests that spawned on objective capture containing badges and ascended materials have been removed.
The Badges of Honor and ascended materials are now dropped by the objective’s boss instead.

In short: Yes.
Yeah pretty sure your dad is rich
Otherwise you’d have know marketing better.
You don’t even know how gov’t (Anet) manipulated price/inflation by the name of free-will. Ofc it’s free-will, but it is the incentive that matters.
With that you’re paranoid – you don’t need a precurser – you can get it with 50 hours of “work” + the journey. I have no idea where you see the conspiratory.
And yes, I mined around half of my ores myself to save myself from this insane inflation, and it’s the most boring thing on earth to do.
I actually like it – guess why I’m rich? But the nice thing in this game is that you can do any stuff you like and still become rich -otherwise the prices for the mats wouldn’t be as high.
Also some legendaries uses wood, which you can’t just farm rich nodes like ores do, which makes the process 10 times slower.
Should I stop the time how long I need for that? I estimate ~45 mins.
Anyway, irrational people will never listen to logic reasoning, that’s why they make irrational decisions / justify irrational things. So it’s best to stop talking to people like that.
Have a nice day.
With that you’re right.
ETA : I used one character to gather 151 elder, 66 hard, 33 seasoned and 80 soft wood logs. Took me 50 mins. Elder wood took about 20 mins and soft wood ~15 mins. If you can visit Malchor’s Leap every half an hour or park some characters there it get’s a bit faster. Soft wood still is a problem though.
But: This conspiracy theory would be true if you needed a legendary and if the resources were limited which they are not – everybody has got the same chances to get the materials in the same time. Some chose to do other stuff and buy it. If the other stuff weren’t lucrative then the mats wouldn’t be as expensive. So yay – everybody can craft their precurser – isn’t that great?
ETA²: Elonian Leather though would be a different story, and I think the recipe for the spool has been changed, right? I’m not sure but I think it was 3 per refined before and is 4 since HoT – in that case I kind of agree that this was short sighted from anet as you can’t just farm nodes to get these materials – there’s a lot more RNG and with that time included in getting them. Unless, of course, you have tons of Karma but even that only helps you with 1 to 2 of the 4 needed ingredients.

@ yolo: “Everybody needs to do theorycrafting”
You have a point – and I guess it’s pretty easy for a warrior to switch to S/WH and GS – Staff or even S/D are completely different playstyles (from D mainhand). I can’t say too much about Staff though, but I’ve never been able to make S/D work for me – too much porting which leaves me with a headache. And I hate condi (yeah sorry but it’s true) -so if this are my only options, I’ll pass. Not so sure if I really need that much stealth (other than it being our only defense) – I guess not but I grew used to it. But I’d like to keep on playing D/D.
ETA: And maybe that’s one of the banes: Why aren’t all weaponsets at least halfway viable, so I can main thief and still have different playstyles if I wish.
Players REACT according to Anet’s decision.
Anet is the government who controls the money supply and interest rate here.
Oh my – ever heard of free will?
The root is Anet’s bad implantation of asking for 100 time-gated material that also cost additional 30k raw materials, which create this huge demand of materials, yet they don’t provide additional supply for the materials.
30 mins of node farming each day – I wonder if I’ll ever get this into your head.
You know nothing about how market works.
I’m rich, baby, so I guess I do
The only truth is Anet create this situation.
Not really, it’s still the sellers and buyers who change prices, Anet created an average and based the mats needed on that. But you’re still free to gather the materials – the time needed for that hasn’t changed.
The only truth is if you make a price comparison, TP price is cheaper and save you like 20 hours or more of tedious processes.
So there’s two truths as the above already was the “only truth”? Ok then.
Depends on how fast you make gold, if you can make 9 gold in 30mins, then yes, you’ll save time.
The only truth is Anet created this inflation because of bad execution and implantation.
No, the players did – and it was clear that this would happen – we have been warned in advance and I gathered materials for half a year, as did a lot of others, as it was clear that the market would explode once HoT came out.
Yeah I’ve been around since launch.
The precursor price is 50g back then.
Your point?
My point: You like to complain a lot and shut your eyes and ears against “the truth” which is: of course things on the TP are out of control right now, the precurser price is set by sellers and buyers, mat prices are set by sellers and buyers and so on.
I guess you guys haven’t been around before HoT was announced – or never watched the precurser prices – otherwise you would be delighted to be able to craft them.
I just tested it; it really takes 30 mins to farm 60 iron, 40 platinum, 100 mithril. Latter took the longest and I usually get quite a lot when doing other stuff in game and salvaging my loot. 3 months to craft a precurser one wants to have now is a long time, yes, but it would take that long anyway and it still might drop.
Honestly; I think you guys are complaining about nothing.
Do you already have map completion? You get a lot of Karma from doing Hearts.
3 top players just said thief is fine, yet people still fail to recognize the l2p issue…?
So Caed is 3 people?
Hey there Jana
I know (of) Sizer and Caed. But I honestly saw a lot of posts by Cynz regarding stuff I knew something about which seemed completely biased. In other words, it is not only a matter of skills, but only expectations about what you should be able to do – and perhaps my understanding is more in line with the likes of Caed. I have not yet seen anything from Sizer regarding his games, so that basically leaves me with Caed, which I have found trustworthy in the past.
Pity Lowell isn’t playing anymore or Jumper – at least we would then have a bigger pool of dedicated thieves to compare with eachother – or Mr.Big who seemed like a guy who had a pretty holistic pov on the game.
So yeah, the pool is small atm, totally agree, but even as unskilled as I am, if we fx took mesmers pre-june (my class back then), it wasn’t like they were useless – they were just very hard to pull of. As I recall it, only 2 did it on the highest level. So what I am saying (asking, really) is: Is it really the only possibility, that the class is weak, or has it just got a lot harder?
Others have already said it – I said it.
I have a different role in wvw but have the balance of pvp.
It’s nice if decapping is enough for pvp, for wvw it isn’t.
And I know that a lot of the thieves in FP (focusparties – those who kill enemy mesmer, thieves, necros) haven been/are asked to roll mesmer as they’re stronger. My friends get reported for playing D/D thief in pvp – so I don’t really think it’s biased.
And what I tried to tell you in my last post: All of the 3 thieves we have talked about in this thread are on the same level and that’s not my personal opinion but I base it on tournament wins.
Although I have to admit I don’t know too much about Caed.
(edited by Jana.6831)
@Poxxia: Caed, Sizer and Cnyz belong to the top players of this game. If even they can’t pull off a class something is massively wrong.
There’s no use to tell someone on the same level to “L2P”, but most thieves know that stuff is wrong since June, so these threads get kind of old – but nothing has changed, so it seems as if a reminder now and then is neccessary.
I’d have to know more about pvp to see what exactly went wrong here. I just saw that “We Inspire” had no guardian = no DH traps.
As a person who has a hard time focusing on just one class I envy your tunnel vision OP.
Depends on how you’re playing this game.
I can play any class pretty well in pve – no matter how long I’ve spend on them. Wvw and pvp though.. nope.
I think that thief could be fine if all the other classes will be toned down a bit.
No, even then thief wouldn’t be fine.
Too much damage in game right now – a tank hits like a zerker.
Most classes have got passives.
So: A thief tries to land his backstab: Passive invulnerability. He lands his BS: Tank. Thief is out of dodges: Opponent uses his #1 which hits as hard as a BS.
If the overall damage is toned down the true problems would emerge which are far more than just tankiness and damage.
Alright, that was kind of unexpected.
I’m curious what will come next – your turn, devs.
This is PvP forum, not General forum.
So? Everything is balanced based on pvp.
You don’t discuss PvE nor WvW in a PvP forum. is it so hard to understand?
You seem to be really smart.
This is PvP forum, not General forum.
So? Everything is balanced based on pvp.
Nop, not over exaggeration, i play thief, and i can see you don’t play warrior.
thief is no where close to warrior trash level.
thief is bad, but warrior is trash
thieves, even being not good, are still playable with the right teammates, which is proven by abjured, because thief is still the king of decap and killing low HP players.
warrior is completely unplayable for any role there is, which is why all warriors in tournament level rerolled.
if you seriously think other wise, play one, or just l2p.
There’s more than pvp in this game – and running and decapping only helps me that much in wvw or even pve.
I’m doing better on my warrior on whom I have maybe 30 hours than on my thief on whom I have several k of hours.
ETA: This is by no means a “warrior is fine, quit whining post” – just saying.
And if you look into the traits you’ll realize that thieves have got almost no defence, no access to might, no passives – which is different from any other profession in this game.
I don’t really want passives, but in this passive meta thief has been left out.
So you don’t even need to main a thief to see that what they’ve got is very little.
(edited by Jana.6831)
That would be nice, a new condi: Acid
And a new BL skin: Tomato Dagger
Edit: Or shish kebab
i find most of this weapon set quite ugly but the bows dont even look like the same set
why even make them? why not just skip them like you do with the underwater weps ifyour gana make uninspired versions?
honestly anet would be better off if they didnt feel the need to make EVERY weapon with EVERY set, just make the good ones, the ones that your inspired to make
So you can’t imagine that there’s people out there who like stuff you don’t like? Ok. You really should learn that actually – people are different.
Sure I can trow anything against my own body. I don’t even need reveal skills for that.
All my graphics are moderately low, all clutter stuff I could turn off is turned off. When I started 2 years ago (my graphic settings were even lower back then) I spent 2 weeks in Queens Gauntlet and laughed my kitten off because of the gigantic fireballs everywhere – that was really the best for me as no one could possibly see a thing.
That being said – I hate Guardians Fire and Ice effect with a passion – there only needs to be one around and you have no chance to see the Boss – if you’re lucky you might see the outlines.
The better solution now would’ve been (if possible) to have an option to soften the clutter from other people and still see your own and another to phase out all clutter. But maybe that’s not possible.
Anyway – in my 2 years here I’ve seen Dwayna’s animations once – everything else looked more of less like the screenshots.
The Tower Lord is on a ledge – he stomp-pushes everyone without stability from said ledge and probably out of the tower – the animation is clear to see – without clutter. Otherwise: good luck.
So, while I get that having the own animations nerfed is annoying: something had to be done – no matter whether it’s PvE, WvW or PvP.
(edited by Jana.6831)
People.
People.
People.
Anet doesn’t want any class be be bad. If they could choose through a simple button press, they would make the classes balanced and the people happy. Stop pretending like “Anet rally hates thief”, and anything of that sort. It reeeeaally does not help.
CiS in grandmaster and revealed skills/traits – ’Nuff said!
I get most of my fragments from capping camps in wvw.
no point to make several guild if you need days and days to get all the upgrade…
And if those rewards are only for the guild and can’t be sell or used by players…
And with the auto unclaim you need to have people on the map to earn the reward.
Some guilds are that huge.
I don’t think this is a good idea, sorry, because griefers would abuse it – and we’ve already had that.
I’m in 3 guilds, and no one of them is playing wvw with me – I would hate it to be forced into a guild just to get rewards for my work.
ETA: So in the end your idea (if I got it right) would backfire as bigger guilds could afford to make several guilds and claim all of the objectives while the rest of the players gets nothing.
(edited by Jana.6831)
your server earn nothing with ppt…. oh great, you win the MU… and then ? Oh you can get some bonus chest… I think much about ressources / gold reward directly in the guild bank… Or another currency to upgrade your guild hall to be able to upgrade your guild…
Actually you need to farm pve to upgrade WvW stuff….
Why only guilds? Don’t you think that those in small guilds who can’t affort to upgrade their guild significantly deserve rewards as well?
And in the end; I think no one really plays wvw for the rewards, even if they were better.
ETA: Or those who are helping with holding an objective but aren’t in the guild that claimed said objective.
In the end now the wholeserver profits from everything everybody does – and I think it would be better if it stayed that way – no idea how the new guild buffs will work out, maybe they’re already going away from that.
(edited by Jana.6831)
Just remove reward for taking ; defending.
And give reward to hold to the guild who claim. Reward increase during time, and no reward for 30min. And auto unclaim after few times (2H ? more ?) if no one from this guild go inside the structure and speak to some npc.
At least it’s the main idea.
Good idea, so we all have to be in one guild, right? Why not make it server wide instead – oh wait, that’s what we’ve got.
forum bug
15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15
After I lagged and lost against an opponent just now (not a single case), I decided: This game is nice for casual play – everything else is broken.
There is 0 thieves in tourney so far lol. I mean devs put so much thought and effort into thief cvlass that no team is interested in bringing thief to tournament.
Yeah – I just hope they realize that the dmg/tankiness calculations and passive skills are completely off.
And well, I do hope they miss thieves.
With the ferocity patch 2 years ago (I have been a noob back then, so I can’t really remember how things were before the patch) they lowered the overall damage for everyone. Thief has been effected worse as far as I remember, maybe because of all the critical traits which were “double nerfed”.
So, how about nerfing the overall damage once again but leaving thief partly out of it? That shouldn’t be too hard.
If they don’t do it then I don’t see that much hope for the whole game, to be honest. So, lets see what new ideas the tournament brings.
snip
You have a point but holding objectives is worth it since that is where a lot of awesome fights happen – or better happened. To me the imbalance is the main problem of wvw – with that I mean: Imbalance regarding stability/boon stealing, general class imblance, whether or not the damage AC do is justified, AoE ranges of classes and so on. It really is quantity instead of quality and that is sad. I’d rather have that fixed first before trying the next new things with wvw.
In my opinion they changed too many things at once. Might have been better if the new maps were introduced a few weeks after HoT and if we had the auto upgrades first to give feedback on only the auto upgrades which have quite an impact on wvw as do the new maps.
ETA: And I’m not sure if I’m happy about small guilds being dismissed for wvw as it has been the small guilds and roamers who upgraded everything in the off hours (at least EU – NA is a different field).
(edited by Jana.6831)
we have a server called gunners hold?
Gunnar’s Hold – on EU, yes.
ETA: Gunnar is a nordic male forename.
ok I really should've read that then, I guess - It's not as if it is hidden and I'm stupid to miss it
Could you quote yourself so I don’t miss it again, please?
I don’t think it would help in this case.
It would as you didn’t write it and it’s pretty rude to tell me I skipped something you didn’t write.
In my case, it wasn’t inexperienced/clueless players, though. I was using D/D baseline thief and for the most part, it was against a myriad of more classic builds.
Granted, I still didn’t beat “meta” builds in sPvP regularly enough to claim it as an instant-win, but it was easy enough with such substantial rewards that I saw pretty substantial improvements pretty much pressing the button whenever I wanted to, and was not using the benefits of the DD line at the time. Overall I fared better than what was normal for me playing the backstab build I normally do, and playing D/P didn’t change very much in regards to “on point” combat.
DrD is weird. It’s fair and isn’t. The coefficients on Vault and BD are too high (especially in WvW after testing, dealing 7k+ damage per dodge is a bit of an issue), however the gains from the rest of the specialization line are extremely underwhelming, and the staff itself seems almost useless outside of vault-spamming.
Daredevil pretty much needs a conceptual redesign as it adds very little to the class in regards to a playstyle point of view and trivializes the thief as a whole while expounding upon the notion that the class suffers from core design philosophies and is only kept afloat by a few extremely powerful gimmicks that when countered render the underlying class schemes as unsuitable for a plethora of different situations done objectively better by other classes.
I doubt you were spamming DB on mesmer clones – please try to get my point.
I guess you skipped the part where I specifically said, “Most people in GW2 are very friendly and helpful, but when we’re tagged up like I am right now, it means we’re specifically here to help you. Hit us up if you need guidance.”
Sorry about the confusion.
Could you quote yourself so I don’t miss it again, please?
You’re an elitist – and I hope the devs don’t copy and paste your ideas (again) of how a thief should play.
ETA: Just plain observation, no insult.
(edited by Jana.6831)
While I mostly disagree with your stance on stealth and SA involving thinking, I couldn’t agree more with this statement.
I have repeatedly asked for Death Blossom to be made into a completely different skill, because just upping damage or evade frame duration I knew would have left us in this position: spam a skill and win the fight.
My same thoughts regarding Shadow Shot; I’ve lost quite a few matches against other thieves while playing D/D. I equip and offhand pistol in a rematch, press 3 a few times, and usually win without taking hits. The coefficient is so high, the initiative cost so low, and with built-in mitigation, there’s no real reason to do anything else.
DB works on skilled players, though. In fights I lost playing backstab with in some friendly 1v1’s with what I’d call very skilled guildmembers, I was fairly successful in rematching them using DB. On a power/crit build. The evasion is enormous and is exactly what I feared would become of DB given increased evade frames: an easy-to-win-with condi spam build.
Yay Deceiver agreed with me for once.
Even with SA one still needed to think as D/D still has got no utility.
This thread derailed with the first answer and by watching that video: It was always just Death Blossom, no matter the situation, no matter the opponent.
I like Death Blossom as it is, I just don’t see how spamming one skill against people who yet have to figure out their new classes should be an argument against someone asking for other thief sets to be viable again – and that’s why I argued.
ETA: DB as it is is fine – Daredevil is much worse when it comes to evades – maybe you should do a review on that?
