So many full servers is only driving the new players into the non full servers. Those new players who try out WvW, will witness an empty borderland most likely and will not even bother IF they are even interested in the game mode. So goodjob anet

All borderlands are empty, no matter whether it’s T9 or T1.
And it was clear that this would happen 1) because it’s a new map and people need to get used to it 2) because the map isn’t that easy 3) because all mechanics have been changed and people need to get used to it 4) because we had a major game update concerning all game modes 5) because people are confused in general 6) because guilds test their arenas

Apart from this being the NA topic about locked servers:
I’m pretty sure that the servers aren’t full but this is some strategic move of anet. NA has shown us that it’s entirely possible to control the tiers/population and that is something anet has to prevent, so they’re doing stuff that doesn’t make too much sense so people hopefully won’t figure out how to dodge the system.

Not saying I don’t get what you’re coming from, I do, but all of this can’t be solved over night.

ETA: And I’d rather have veterans coming back than masses of new players, tbh. I’d love to hear from true veterans what made them quit.

There’s some stuff wrong with wvw at the moment. I roamed the new borderlands today and found a lot that didn’t make sense at all. Still testing though.

That aside – I also found that the new maps/mechanics aren’t what bugs me. What does is the current gameplay: The constant tinkering with the camera leaves my wrist sore, me unable to play like I used to (I’m a D/D thief, so I need to twist and turn a lot more than usual players), bugs, lags, imbalance – there seems to be no consistency at all. And god knows when real balance will happen – that includes class balance and zerg balance (like the minus condi duration food nerf meaning a buff to the plus condi duration food buff and stability, boon stealing and all this stuff).
If the game is balanced around pvp then why are things which have been taken out of pvp still in wvw?
It’s really a lot of minor annoyances that as a sum bug me big time.

Half the fun in WvW was choosing what to upgrade and where, or whether to save resources, etc.

Yeah… not so much fun for me, though… “Yo guys, why does our keep have reinforced walls, a second worker, cannons, mortars, a waypoint, merchants, additional guards but no reinforced gates?” – “It’s more fun that way haha.”
(and that over a 3 months period)

Sorry if I’m slightly offtopic (btw I agree with you guys) :
Did they recently change the camera – and most of all curser position as well? I’m having trouble placing aoe as the mouse isn’t in the middle of the screen anymore as it used to be for about 2 weeks after another change – all this tinkering is getting too much for mynerves.

Towers and keeps were only marginally in treb range of each other; you could treb Bay from Briar but not the other way around. You could however treb both side towers from Garri but not get their trebs out. That can be fun, I admit that, but it’s usually only done when the trebbing server already outnumbers the other – so in the end it was “Garri is being trebbed, so we’re gonna lose it” and that isn’t much fun.
I love EB though, where most of the keeps/towers can be trebbed from an other objective. The only problematic case is Red Keep vs SM – I think that is too much.
I’m still trying to figure out the new borderlands and there’s some things I know I don’t like, f.e. that there is no direct way to “NC” – there should be as it’s the most important supply provider on the BL.
Also a lot of bugs are driving me insane, but that mostly on EB where our green Keep and Jerri is constantly contested because a NPC attacks the mobs outside – great! And no idea what is happening on the southern towers on the borderlands but it doesn’t make getting to know the new map easier.
Anyway: I’ve upgraded a lot in the past and at some point always stopped when it as useless anyway or if I found I was the only one upgrading. Without upgraded towers it’s very easy to “suppress” an opponent as it takes/took ages to get a tower up. That is again a problem for the outnumbered server. And it was really expensive – so losing something really hurt – at least me when I paid for it.
So, I don’t know if there has already been a constructive discussion as how to bring human interaction into this so it would be smart, but yet again can’t be used by trolls to keep “their own” server down. I loved the opportunities one had with the upgrades but also saw the negative aspects of non automated upgrades – so I’d love to hear other opinions about it.

I like how you missed the reference to the bugged skill not working and the player…never mind. Working as intended =P. I had other Thieves tell me I was hacking for hitting so fast. Unload+PointblankrageFF/ID/DD so good.

Btw- Nerf Thief. Knocked me down from 1200 range using his Scorpion Wire and I had to walk over and kill him. To broken. Took 3 seconds, make it take 1.

That would mean that they have to buff thief so he can pull you faster. And do you really want that?
Anyway, I think at some point people will really be convinced that it’s impossible that a thief can kill them, so they will cry hacks every time it happens.

Well I also think that it was bad that Legendaries where tradable, when I found that out 3 years ago I was like WTF? Precursors should have a system like now and should indeed also have been account-bound. It just made no sense that they were tradable from a game-play perspective. Luckily Anet eventually came to that same conclusion and made the new ones account-bound. I also agree they cannot now make the first ones account bound as well.

I agree on legendaries and explained the problem with non tradeable precursers – I don’t want a GS, I want a dagger. So I end up filling my bank with stuff I don’t want. I guess that’s why they were tradeable. No idea why legendaries are.

However I disagree that only that part is the problem. That part completely devalues the game-play value of the item, and you solve that by making is account-bound.

Not sure if I got you right, but I tried to explain it above: I’m pretty sure they hadn’t had the resources to make a legendary journey at launch.

The rest of what you wrote is an idealization of what legendaries should be, but again: Then they should’ve been “journeys” all along and if anet hadn’t had the resources to make them right at launch, then the only possible solution would’ve been to make them a) drops, b) never get them into the game (since I bet it takes quite a bit to create challenging unique stories for 20? weapons) – what would you prefer?

But since we already have precursers/legendaries in game and a lot of you wanted a “journey” this is the best what “you” could get.

I am also happy with the precursor crafting (It’s for me one of the important elements of HoT, in combination with many difference that should reduce this gold-grind requirement), but if it’s true that there are items required that still require you to grind gold to buy them, the complains about it are also valid.

(I have said it before)
The only way to make you not grind would’ve been if precursers had never been tradeable at all – and at best never been loot. As in the end a thief main might end up with 4 GS precursers. So what should’ve been in game from the start to prevent you from grinding would’ve been the legendary journey as a LS – and I kind of guess that was a bit much to ask for – so in the end what should’ve been so no one had to grind: No legendaries at all.
I think the journey as you (and maybe I as well) want it will come withthe second set of legendaries, right? Not too informed about HoT as I’m not that much into pve and have the legendaries I wanted.

If stopping stealthed NPCs was something you had to do in the story, or if skelks were an actual threat like smokescales are now, players might have learned that if you can’t find your opponent now and are sure they’re about to run away or backstab you and you last saw them literally on top of you some AoEs on your location might ruin their day.

There are thief NPCs – at least in LS2 anet tried to bring thieves closer to the players – you have to fight some thieves in dry top and you have to fight as a thief during one LS episode, which brought me a lot of QQ “can’t fight as a kitten thief, I’ll never get that AP QQ QQ QQ and some more QQ”

You probably didn’t even read the post, and completely clueless about this crafting system at all. You either bought your precursor a long time ago (which is the right decision), or didn’t care about making legendary anyway.

Please, if you can’t provide a valid argument and try to justify yourself by falsely derail other people’s points of view, just leave this topic. It is none of your concern anyway.

I did read it, but I guess you don’t know what you’re asking for – and yeah – I did know long ago that this “legendary journey” wouldn’t be a pleasure – cause there’s was no way to make it completely free with precursers already being in game and with them being sellable.

I ran with an engi the other day- our quest was to kill the frogs on EB.
Hammer engi… he clearly had no idea what to do, but 10 frogs and a necro on his kitten while being constantly invulnerable as it seems.
I killed some frogs and the necro, thinking about adopting him as my pet.
Point: I don’t know too much about elite specs but engis should survive even if a thief becomes invulnerable after being revealed (reversed argumentation somehow).

Anyway: Precursers have already been in game and the vanilla ones are still obtainable in the same way ever – if your legendary journey was completely free, no one would buy precursers anymore and the worth of your own legendary would be devalued.

Making new maps will take too long time. It took them over a year to make the Desert borderland and it is far from being playable yet. We need faster solutions to fix the bleeding population issue. That is why I said reinstalling the old maps + copy & pasting reward tracks from spvp to WvWvW would be a fast solution.

I hope some developer would comment these threads and give us more insight how the WvWvW population is counted. Does merely logging to WvWvW and using the merchants + crafting stations count? Or does it measure players outside the spawn per each tick, which would in fact make a lot of sense? The latter is of course more difficult to program.

I don’t play wvw for the rewards (shock horror)
I play it for team play and because fighting humans is more challenging than pve mobs – and more fun.
I play it because of strategy and because I can troll enemies 24/7.
I’m currently burned out because I tried to get people to proper play wvw for too long – those are the guys all of you are yelling for “bring more pve players” (by increasing the rewards f.e.) – I spent an hour teaching someone new to wvw what wvw is all about, mind you, but if 50%+ people on the map have no idea what to do it becomes exhausting very fast.

And even from that I got spark 2 years ago with a MF of maybe 150, rather less.
And to be honest: I salvage everything anyway and never cared about MF, to me it’s some myth – and I’m living well with that -only problem I have is that I get closer to 300 and it’s always hard for me to justify destroying something.

I can see the upper tiers maybe being able to respond sometimes to this threat on their home BL (if the WvW populations don’t remain overly stagnant), but defenders on lower tiers don’t stand a chance. All aboard the k-train every few hours.

T1 here, just saying because people keep the myth that lower tiers are low pop alive.
I think the biggest problem with this event is that you have to turn in whatever you carved out of the mobs – so the more people the faster it goes – if I just had to kill the mobs I’d stand a chance.

Edit: Or better “lower servers are far lower populated” -not really true in my experience.
Edit²: Although this topic is far more complex. there’s a difference between EU and NA – on EU servers are usually dead for a few hours each day, the servers that aren’t during the time others are get their PPT by karma train – those are in “every tier”. So it might seem as if a server is better than they actually are. There is no real 24/7 coverage in EU, so at some point a server will outnumber the other/s, no matter what.

In saying I can see where the OP is coming from in regards to the concern of certain classes becoming less desirable or even totally neglected/ignored in certain PvE content due to balance and mechanics being based on PvP foundations, especially with raids around the corner.

Apart from that we don’t really have balance right now, and that since June: In an ideal case, and especially since this isn’t a “trinity” game, balance would mean that all classes are equally strong. And with that you won’t have any class that is unwanted. What you’re referring to is likely “Necros are bad in dungeons” which was born because random people thought they were speedrunners. Real speedrunners formed their groups around the content, so certain skills/clas ses were needed in different situations. And necro didn’t really fit in that. Still I have done all dungeons on my necro and never had trouble, neither with the content or my parties (pugs).

Alright, I was talking about the moles, ogres and frogs.
But the mosquitos have their own right – as a warning system – hit a few and if an enemy zerg rushes through and your “event succeded” pops up you know that Klov/golanta/jerri are in danger

I did not expect you to look it up. I just felt the need to mention it because “we have obviously no idea of wvw because we don’t share your solo roamer expectations” ^^

Of course in roaming there should be a balance in the 1on1’s of all compositions but it will be hard to reach because of reasons I mentioned before.

Did you play condi-trapper-thief? If yes… that would have never worked in the normal pvp-balance.

D/D power thief for 2 years.
With a week of P/D thief inbetween.
My D/D power thief worked quite well in pvp as well (with the exception that CnD was nerfed in pvp but not wvw), before June. But I’m a wvw player, so I’m in to kill and not to jump around.

Well [DP] is a WvW-guild but don’t mind me ^^
But no, WvW will never be balanced the same way as PvP as long as players use PvE-gear and buffs. On the other hand WvW generally would need another balance because the playstile if different. It is more medium- and large-scale group fighting and so movement, commitment and positioning is more important than a skill having 5sec more CD or not.

Do you really think I look up what your guild does?
You’ve read my signature, so you know I’m a solo roamer, thus I need pvp balance as that isn’t really balanced around groups as well. (We have no trinity, so the composition of the groups is always different).
I can imagine that it’s very hard/impossible to get a perfect balance for wvw, especially when it comes to zergs/blobs, but everything in wvw has been pretty much balanced once upon a time (minus conditions for the past ~2 years) – but you know that as you’re in a renown wvw guild.

My two cents:

Was alone on our BL the other day and chatting to a friend, the laser event was up, so I killed some PvE mobs and told my friend I had no time to chat anymore as there was only 45mins left on the clock and I had 5 rectors or whatever turned in and was at 10%.
I didn’t make it – 10 enemies came in and did it in “no time”.
At least I occupied 4 of them.. slight consolation

Anyway, I like the events on EB, don’t ask me why, maybe because I can do them alone in a reasonable time, maybe because it helps/helped my camp, maybe because EB has always been my favourite map and I got used to it. But the laser event is a bit too much.

A lot of creep nerfs have been left out of this time line – the June Patch was the biggest nerf for thief of all time – P/D has been nerfed because poison and bleed became relatively useless and because the one trait I always forget was deleted. S/D became useless with the deletion of feline grace, D/D became useless with CiS and SRej both in grandmaster.
Also SA got rid of Last Refuge as a minor and taking it is not an option as everybody takes SE anyway (to me this is less survivability as the only time I really had trouble with LR was when I was lagging), No might anymore, SE got nerfed – what we got instead was in my opinion gimmicks – which is fine if people want to trait for it – I know though that other clas ses got this stuff as minor too.
And an indirect nerf: Revealed traits/skills. “But no one takes them” “I’d know that”.

ETA: Also the coefficent of CnD was reduced to 1,25 from 1,5 in June (hope I got the numbers right).

I feel like this missed a few steps, but is a moderately working timeline of changes. A full timeline would be cool though, that way when people claim we have potential for 12k backstabs we can point directly to when we could last do that.

Depend on what you’re talking about; pvp or wvw.
Wvw: Last time I’ve been able to have 12k backstabs with my 06620 build was about a year ago before might was nerfed and before Sigil of Fire was nerfed. That was pretty rare though = against uplevels, nearly downed enemies and one guy who must’ve had a very unfortunate build.
At least the only other skill in game that could hit that hard back then was warrior’s rifle.
No idea about signet thieves – they must’ve had 12k+ backstabs frequently.

I can understand channeled skills still tracking through stealth to an extend, but the full Rapid Fire and Tower Lords in wvw (both F.e.) are a bit too much – so it would be great if someone would look into that.

if it was to that, all we needed was a square plain map to blob colliding, the one that splashed more water would win(gor sure groups would try to abuse in some sorta bring more class X to win and call best gvg, wich imo is a insult to the older game), i dont think that would be a decent game either…

WvW is dead because the meta remained unchanged for about a whole year.

If you’ve been playing long enough, you could have seen the shift over the past year where players went to the zone actually looking to fight to going there to follow a “commander” to take the same objectives over and over and over and over with no opposition.

HOT way took too long to drop, and I really don’t see WvW popping off again, but I hope I’m wrong.

EDIT: In both WvW and sPvP game modes updates have been too few and it shows.

I actually think that the changes made to gameplay had a huge cause in this – “stability”.
Wvw is frustrating, no matter what – mistakes happen, trolls are around, bugs are around, lags are around – all of this takes its toll. I’m not sure if people really wanted new maps (I didn’t – but I’m okay with them) or if they wanted fixes.
So yes, it has been ignored for too long and the devs seemed to be out of touch with what wvw really needs/needed.

The lich is ridiculously easy if you have a decent amount of players (10+). Just everyone stack round the corner behind the rock and AoE all the skeletons down. It’s really that simple.

Here’s the corner I’m talking about:

It’s not that simple, actually – a lot of people already said what’s required on top of that.
But one things’s for sure: All minions/pets/clones not on the stack kill me every time (although I leave before that nowadays if I see a pet at the Lich).

How is endgame thief/daredevil?

If you’re doing very well with D/D + P/P in sPvP, I think it’s just you being placed in a bad MMR. Sorry for what that imply.

D/D = Dagger/Dagger
DD = Daredevil

(Yes, my OCD…)

Edit: Anet, please change the name of Daredevil and also of Berzerker (warrior) – nothing good comes out of this.
