My argument against this is actually following:
Moving resources inside camps/towers/keeps was another move towards PvE world where u have much smaller change to actually get (for example) ganked while collecting those precious goods.

Most of my gold comes from node farming, so I do it a lot – but didn’t do it in wvw so much (except NC and WC on BL) as the nodes weren’t worth it. So chances that someone hit me while I was farming a node was really slim anyway.

Give it some time to judge whether or not this is good/bad.
I’m currently not so sure what I want to do in wvw, so I mostly run around like a headless chicken anyway.
But I got my first chili yesterday woohoo – takes me ages to get one in pve, so I kind of think wvw players deserved these nodes – thanks from me.

This is a great example of folks who trash talk EoTM and never step foot in there. I play both WvW and EoTM. and there are more ‘avoiding fights’ in Wvw than there is on EoTM on ANY given day. I get in more fights roaming EoTM than Wvw, more zerg fights, etc. Granted I am on a tier 1 server, but none the less, EoTM is much more diverse than ‘running around in circles avoiding fights’. And this was before the map change, which will make WvW even more of a karma train map. I’m already seeing mesmers hiding in the keeps easily, waiting to port folks in for the stealth cap..

But hey, think what you want. You got your nerf. But don’t expect to see the majority of EotM folks flock to WvW to put up with these elitest attitudes (especially with the new maps). They will leave either stop playing EotM and go Pve, or just stay in EotM and grind it out. So in the end you cries for nerf didnt help your preferred game mode either. Your efforts would have been better served asking for buffs to the WvW rewards.

Not my experience and I’m on my fifth server right now.
Whenever you see a really high rank in wvw you can bet that it’s an EotM player and an easy kill – so I guess we guys are good without “the majority of EotM folks flocking to WvW”. And see, that is what is kind of insulting. The rewards in EotM were too high – and yes, I forgot that most of the badges come from killing enemy players anyway – one could argue whether or not that’s fair to those who roam and scout but you guys in EotM should still be fine if you fight.

Thief 2: Glad we finally have our guild hall, GJ! And btw if you want to decorate it neatly, be prepared that I redecorate everything to make it all messy.
Me: Yo guys, since I’m on EU and don’t own HoT; I bought this pumpkin which I can’t place, can any of you do that on NA so I can see whether or not it’s placed on EU as well?
Thief 3: Sure! Placed it, can you see it?
Me: Nah.
Thief 3: But I placed it, you should see it!
Me: I can’t, unless you hid it somewhere where I can’t find it…

Indeed the Edge rewards are now a complete joke. If are a new player like me who still needs badges for gear, you may as well just complete the dailies (half of which are broken now) then log off and do something else. Or go play PvE which gives actual rewards, which you can then use in WvW.

If badge rewards are meant to be nerfed to oblivion like this so you get 1 badge from capturing a keep, then the badge rewards should cost a LOT less badges as well. Ignoring the daily rewards, you could cut down the badge costs of the equipment to 1/10th of their current values and they would probably be at a more sensible place than they are now.

I never used badges for gear – I crafted and bought mine.
But: Welcome to wvw – that’s what we get and I’m fine with it – I play wvw for the fights and strategy, not really because of the rewards or the karma.

And: I’m saving ~2 gold a day which previously went for upgrades now, so I should be rich soon!

When I logged in a bit later I found all three keeps and sm on eb waypointed to blue.
After standing at spawn for a while I saw maybe 10 people run past me, probably open their maps to have a look at things and very promptly waypoint out.
Gaining advantages like wp’s should not come free and with little to no effort just because you have different coverage to others.

You can’t waypoint to enemy keeps anymore, even if they’re yours. So they either went to SM or their keep.

@Jana.6831 dont forget that mostly every one skritting arround pve at this time, when that task gets futfilled the usual sacrificial players will joing WvW.

That’s a minor point of what I wrote and even before the HoT Patch there were times when “no one” was online, so.. I realized that it doesn’t matter which “league” on is in, it’s all the same, there might be more small roaming groups in gold, more really good solo roamers (with cheese builds), more commanders/more commanders who know what they’re doing but the differences are marginally.
However, what gold has more is players.
But where in the past few could make a difference it becomes more and more difficult as the emphasis seems to be on zerging and that was my point.

ETA: WHat I’ve seen the past days on no matter which map was karma train – no idea what’s the reason behind it, maybe the automated upgrades, maybe because people rather want to do halloween events,maybe because they need to get used to the changed mechanisms. I hope that won’t last and I will take my time to see what impact the new maps have – what I could see now is a possible impact on small groups/scouts/roamers.

I’m still not that certain what I think about the new maps – since I transferred to a gold server we should have enough people, in theory, but it feels just like the past 2 years which I spent in bronze and silver.
Sentries always showed enemy movement if one watched them carefully – I could bypass them as a thief, not possible anymore. Camps auto upgrade = usually if a zerg took it they didn’t upgrade it as they needed the supply, not anymore, so a camp is upgraded after 5 mins and you’ll have to fight 4 more npcs who hit pretty hard. Which is even worse since the guard stacks are gone (I don’t really object that they’ve been taken out, just that life as a roamer is really tough). As far as I know there’s no +5 guild buff anymore – the most important buff in wvw. That again is bad for small groups. And at least ACs need more supply to be build (I’d like to know the reasoning behind that).
All of this encourages zerging and discourages roaming – which is pretty sad as roaming is a big part of wvw.

The other point I don’t really agree with is the supply in a T3 keep which is 1100 for an EB keep and 1800 for SM. SM isn’t really meant to be held, I guess, so maybe it’s not that bad in that case, but as far as I know it’s ~500-600 supply to repair reinforced gates or fortified walls – 1100 supply isn’t much for that.
Also, we’ve had a huge blob on our BL before the changes and we were maybe 8. So what we did was denying them supply (someone rushing to the next camp and upgrading it) – and it worked, they left – we can’t do that anymore = smaller groups are at disadvantage.

That is only about the changes made to wvw in general – I like that there’s oil and cannon as a first upgrade so I don’t have to worry about putting siege in every tower anymore, also that everybody can take supply without worrying about upgrades – and that I save ~2 gold a day which I previously spent on upgrades – But I think a lot of the changes need fine tuning and should have roamers in mind as I haven’t been on a server on which I haven’t been “alone” (GH was an exception) for a few hours each day and I used to be able to do a lot on my own which is now really tough.
Maybe: Sentries start to show enemies if there’s 3+ or 5+, more time until a camp gets more NPCs, a panic button for someone to clear all supply in objectives.. But that’s just my opinion.

C: GW2 has become a p2w game with the Elite Specialisations.
A: Wrong. The Term “p2w” is misused here to express the emotional Letdown of someone who likely just got killed by a Elite Specialisation. A Expansion is not a pay to win Mechanic in a MMO, it is progress and therefore not qualified to be called “p2w”. It is natural for every Game that a Expansion brings out more powerful Elements and everyone has acces to that whole content. If people decide to not take part in that progress, it is natural they are left behind and that goes for everything in life and in games.

I’m not so sure if one can’t call that p2w.
The problem I have is, that I main a thief and I have played D/D for the past 2 years but that build has been destroyed (thanks for the 200 ms evade buff though, anet, honestly).
So, naturally the new weapons and so on are better, for now. But I don’t want to play them- get my problem? It’s not a certain dagger that is more powerful than the rest, it’s a whole new weapon with whole new mechanics. And that is something I don’t agree with and the reason why I think that the vanilla classes/builds shouldn’t be left behind.

Personally I think these maps were designed for EB as the scale too big for BL. Everyone knows more people play and blob in EB than BLs except home. If this was EB I would play wvw everyday. The BLS are just too large to organise anything major server-wide as you need 3-4 20+ people blobs to have organisation. If you have 1 comm on the BLs the map ends up running like a clock with no blobs ever seeing each other without risking losing their territorial expansion for a fight. The mechanics are awesome though. I did enjoy playing a couple of hours on the new BL to try it.

Think A-Net were expecting a much larger player count to join Wvw

Even with more people the cap is ~70 ish and 40-70 would be a good number to have on that map at all times, I guess.
And I think too that this would be a map better suited for EB.
But alas, I’ll give it some more time to really have an opinion (be prepared, anet).

What the new borderland achieved

After spending over 4 hours on the new content, i can safely say there isn’t a lot of people that seem to be playing the new content either, nor the halloween stuff.

If you are referring to the labyrinth; the map cap there is about ~20, maybe 25.
I have no idea what the caps for the new maps are and how full they are in general, but my friendslist was on them yesterday – so I guess some people are playing the new content. Wvw is pretty empty though, but maybe that’s also because it’s no real match right now.

Yes please make offhand dagger apply 1 torment on toss (skill 4) and blind on c&d (skill 5). With that, I’d be very satisfied with thief this expac.

I’d also like to ask for a greater range and the damage set back to how it used to be as D/P now outdamages D/D and I don’t think that should be.
And like I said; if all the passives from other classes are here to stay I’d also like unblockable or less initative spend.

I’d like to ask for the normal camera mode to be worked on and regain some of the sensitivity it used to have. The action mode isn’t working for me right now; it might become an option when I put some work into it, but in the meantime I’d like to be able to play like I used to – without a hurting wrist – and without spending hours upon hours to tinker with my mouse settings ;) Help me!

PvE elements in WvW is BS, because of rallying. After I down someone, the LAST thing I want is for them to rally off some deer or something.

Only works with veteran rank or higher mobs since yesterday.

Please make up your mind on what you want.

What people complaining about people complaining often don’t get is that it’s two groups who complain.

I agree – the new maps are nice but way too big and complicated.
We’ve been a havoc group of 5 this morning and we wanted to cap a keep, we were at a supply camp before and had no supply to open the second gate (which took us around 15 min to find) – the camp was that far away and the keep that complex that we just waypointed and did something else.

I was farming in the Nord Camp of wvw borderlands – whenever I needed gold or was bored – it was fun for some time. 6 people “stole” my bags – two of them died, 3 sent me my bags and one kept it = it was all good.
Since the old borderlands are no more I have no good farming spot anyway, so I’m not that sad but the nerf seems a bit harsh, from 9 potential bags to one per potion..

Your HP depend on wvw, even if you never play wvw.
Each time there’s a reset your health pool will be lower. There was a reset with HoT – next will be tomorrow.

I’m going to disagree with you here. The game is actually pretty close to being balanced imo. There are some outliers here and there in both directions, thief just happens to be in the underpowered direction when it comes to sustained fighting. Condis are actually pretty close to in line now (in PvP) including burning if they would limit the sources/duration of it.

Thing is, it’s a cooldown-war no skill war anymore.
I don’t think that is balance as people just need to mash their buttons and hope their skills/passives will be availlable before their enemy’s. And that is for all classes – Necros deathshroud hits me for 6+ k autoattack, warrior GS3 for 17k, all while they regen as if there’s no tomorrow- that is no balance. That is mindless even if it might appear as balance.

Edit: I was talking about the game in general, not balance between the classes, btw. Thief was left out from the power creep because the class had no passives to start with. So the defense hasn’t been buffed in comparison to all other classes, that’s why thief now suffers wheras all other classes can faceroll their keyboard to success.

Do a chest run (Gendaren fields, Harathi, few other maps) with chests behind bosses and, if you like, JPs too. You can do this daily as they “reset” their rewards then.

Queensdale is the best for that – haven’t done it in ages though – but I used to before I started to play wvw.

thats logic is so flawed, how bout all the effort players put in to get the guard stacks in wvw and now they are takeing them out cuz of the new players, that devalues my time and everyone elses time who worked for them just to cater to the new players

The problem with the guard stacks is a bit deeper though. One could argue that it’s been taken out because of new players but: if you enter wvw and bump into someone who’s already taken a camp/tower (which isn’t much effort), you’re at disadvantage. So maybe it was not so smart to bring them into the game in the first place.

What I tried to say: even if Thief damage or sustain (armor right now, I guess) were buffed; it wouldn’t change that the rest of the game is off – so either way it would be a quick fix which in the end wouldn’t change much.
So, if anet is serious about their Esports thingy, they will notice at some point that the damage is too high and the passives as well – so they will have to lower the damage (and buffs) and I hope that they will then remember the special snowflake which is thief – the class that can’t be brushed over because it needs high damage because of so little sustain.

Edit: I hope you get my point: The whole game is off – every fix to thief wouldn’t fix the core. Every fix to the core might further nerf thief if not handeled carefully.

Really? Somebody worked for a title they would realisticly achieve in 20 years? I very much doubt it. People gave up a long time ago.

Let’s put it this way: Someone who wanted that title never had a chance to work towards it.
So both points are valid – and they are. I never worked towards it as I knew it was useless but now everybody gets it for minimum effort, so it’s meaningless anyway.

I do wonder, though… as a glassy Thief myself, why am I not really afraid when fighting another Thief? Even with Basilisk Venom/Sleight of Hand/Backstab, they don’t ever down me with one burst. Yet against other professions, many times, they only need one burst to down me.

Because we have no defense unlike other classes. If you’d buff Thief’s offense we would one shot each other, right now we can’t.
Our damage is still not as high as other classes, so having a higher damage output might help a tiny bit to get them down, but their damage will still be there, so we would die to them as fast as we do now.

I guess you aren’t talking about wvw, are you? The only reason to switch servers is because of wvw as everything else is megaservers anyway (= all players from all worlds on “one” server).
Suggestion: Find a RP guild.

That won’t be the solution as the enemy thief will have downed you within a second.
So the new meta would be thief vs thief whereas thieves still won’t be able to fight other classes properly (unless they make a mistake).
The June patch went wrong big time and thieves never had passives unlike every other class, that’s why it hurts us the most (well and the butchered SA line) (Oh, and acro line but daredevil is on the way).

slapping two bad traits together won’t suddenly make it a better trait. shoving it on GM level just to put it somewhere " ‘cause i’ll run shadow rejuvenation anyway" is a bad idea as well.

we should be vouching for good traits on all tiers, not “just put the bad ones in a slot no one will care about and let us get all the good traits without worrying about making bad choices”.

Do we really need shadow protector anyway? It heals for just a tiny amount, so I guess my allies don’t care about whether I use it or not. And it’s 2 regen in that traitline (I’m using it right now for myself as I can’t go without CiS) – why? I don’t really know how to modify SA to make it better, I just know that it hurts my D/D thief a lot not to be able to take CiS and SRej. I got used to the 25% less damage while stealthed – it is pretty nice when standing at siege in wvw and even the falling damage trait has got it perks, but still I don’t feel a SA thief is competetive against a non SA thief let alone other classes.

Never said something like that its unfair or something else. I responded to someone else, who mentioned that “dh and rangers have so easy access to stealth, considering the utiliy slot and traits thieves and mesmers have to sacrifice for it”.
What i said is true, because traps are utlities.

So if u want to insult me, learn to read properly at first. If u only had a bad a day, nevermind. There will come brighter days, even for ur stealthy class. ^^

LB3 is pretty easy access, so.. I don’t really see your point =)

Edit: Before you claim that “thief have got easy access to stealth”, roll one and see for yourself how easy it is.

I’m using SA because I can’t deal with all the conditions in fractals. You can do without if you have a really good team – but that is one in a million.
In dungeons I use D/D and SB
In fractals I use: D/D and SB or S/P and SB or P/P and shortbow. Depending on what enemy lies ahead. Against single bosses D/D, against trashmobs and Mai Trin S/P, against ranged Bosses P/P. I wouldn’t use D/P and I actually rarely use the smoke field of pistol, I rather spend my initative on interrupt or unload, of course.
If you insinst on running S/P and DA, CS, T, use #2 more to get rid of condis. Otherwise; you’ll get the hang of it eventually – I did too =)

first idea i had after reading elite spec will cost 400 hero points,
is to let me buy them with gems (aka real money after buying gems)

Did you ever wonder why we have that many currencies in this game? And why there is a new currency each time there’s a new event?
It’s so all participating have the “same” prerequisite, with veterans having advantages from time to time, but they’re never able to just skip that event and get to the goal at once.
The same is what happens here and why you still have to get ~200 HP to get your elite.
So maybe this “grind” has a reason, although it would be nice if there was a solution for pvp and wvw players, I agree.

One thing I don’t get though: How can you guys play pvp with the narrator’s voice on? Would make me crazy.

Grinding ranks in EotM takes far more time than doing it in real WvW.

I don’t think so, I’m playing wvw as my main game mode for now 2 years and just made it to platinum invader, others who I know only play wvw and that for ~3 years have low mithril ranks.
Meeting a diamond rank noob has become pretty common though.
And it can take some hours until we get an enemy keep in wvw = no real fights, no wxp for capping during that time.
