and unfortunately already put a Superior Sigil of Battle into an ascended dagger but eles don’t have weaponswap, do they? (except when using FGS, IB and so on).

And even 2 out of 5 in an organized team is not that common as it was sound to be.

It’s 2 zerkers and 3 celestials most often. There’s no gear stats diversity in PvP so I have no clue why anyone would ever say there is.

Shh – don’t just use one of my senteces and pretend that was all I have been talking about.
I’m valk in pvp btw.

Zerker is rather rare in wvw/pvp anyway, the only thing that pushed zerker in these game modes was the zerker nerf last year, before that you would hardly meet a zerker.
To be honest; I think you guys don’t know what you’re asking for.

Zerker is hardly rare, it’s usually 2/5 people running a rare stat combo.

I was talking about wvw and pvp and zerker is rather rare in wvw – it’s mostly for roamers if they aren’t eles or necros or engis or mesmers.

“Make attacks faster” – not a good idea given that a lot of people experience lag in this game. You could make the bosses doing attacks that lower the endurance regeneration of the players, with the same effect. But there are plenty of people in this game; a lot of them haven’t played for 2+ years and I don’t think that something like that would encourage them to dodge more.

by make attacks faster, they mean make enemies attack more often than once every 4 seconds. perhaps once per second, or once every two seconds.

They arent saying they should have faster animations alone.

Okay, maybe they meant it like that, but the faster attacks can also be a problem, I still haven’t figured out the right time to dodge the usual jungle wurm as the time from red circle to attack is maybe 0,5 seconds.
A game that’s build around dodging won’t work if you nerf dodging there are a lot of attacks one has to “double dodge” make it triple and I’m dead, no matter whether I’m zerker or soldier’s or celestial.

The problem isn’t that it’s impossible to avoid everything significant, it’s that it’s easy to. Make the AI less predictable, and you’ll see more diversity. Berserker wasn’t even the most commonly seen set in the last PVP tournament, people were switching to celestial for the added durability, condition damage, and healing power.

As an experiment, I would like to suggest this to everyone: Next time you do some dungeon runs in a full zerker party, any time someone goes down, let them die. Or if they rally, have them leave the fight/area completely, and see how that affects your run. Now try it again, but with a more balanced party composition and see how you go. I tried this earlier today with a group (did AC, CoF and HoTW), and the zerker runs were far more painful than the runs with a more balanced group. All of a sudden, we had a real need to run less glassy builds, and we actually had a couple players specced for power/healing, and a couple specced for tank/condi/boons, and one for dps (but slightly less squishy).

Just a nice little experiment, which improved my experience a whole lot. Of course, put the downed state back in there and we can just zerker our way through picking people up as they go down.

This is far more complicated than you think.
It’s about how good the team works together, how good the people know their classes, the dungeons/fractals whatever. If people just smash buttons, the party will fail, no matter whether or not someone is specced into healing.
The safest bet is that you chose a build in which you can survive most stuff on your own, without having anyone to care for you. In my case that’s zerker or valk/zerker with some defensive traits. In a good group I can go full full zerkers. And actually our high fractal runs are more succesful when our heal guard isn’t around, our zerker guard can heal as well, but in the end my own healing is usually enough.

World bosses used to have semi-random spawn times, there were still sites that told you when they were starting and zergs following commanders from boss to boss.

Not really, you had to do the events leading up to the spawn of the world boss².
We’ve had a world boss train on IoJ where a group of people would run all over the worldmap to do these events and a zerg of 150 following them. That was cool, actually, and I miss it – the train died with the megaservers. But our zerg was just as big as the zergs are now. But you could do world bosses with a lot less people, we did Jormag with 10 or 15 back in the day and people now think that’s impossible, that’s the downside of the megaservers, well one of the downsides.

² so if no one did the events the boss wouldn’t spawn – so you could kind of decide when you wanted the boss to spawn.

Well, if you can immediately see a game has issues, you should suggest it is changed, simple as that.

Why would I? It’s extremely egoistical to think that one holds all wisdom and is above everything everybody else likes.

The opinions of new players are at least as valid as those of older players (and I say this as a non-new player of WoW, now), as first impressions count.

Not really, it’s a difference if you try something new and don’t like it or if you’ve been with a game for a very long time and it changed to the worse. So, I would think that players who are new and don’t like a game would just stop playing it and move elsewhere – I would do that and in fact I did with wow.

It’s no good, as a company, just saying “Oh well, a few people seem to like it as it is and don’t leave.” if that means the game is in danger of haemorrhaging newer players.

I think you overestimate what you know about the playerbase of this game.

If all these issues were subjective, then fair enough, but they’re not.

They are – who are you to call them objective? You would like a better wow, so why don’t you complain to Blizzard about that?

The dungeon paths are, normally, played in a very, very dull way and even the “everyone is welcome” groups tend to be run by would-be “trainers” of new players, just to get them all trained-up for the skip>stack>melee boredom train.

A lot of people explained why that is and that was nothing else (if not worse) in wow.

Umm.. I hated wow and love GW, so let me play my game and go to wow if you like it better?

The question is, exactly why did you hate WoW and exactly why do you like this game?

It’s not as simple as saying “Go to WoW.”, as WoW has its own issues.

Not to mention that, if a company makes its money from designing games, it won’t regard the answer to problems within its game design as “Go to WoW.”.

It’s your answer to me, of course, as you’re just one player; but, it wouldn’t be theirs (or, not officially, anyway!).

This game is, undoubtedly, better in some ways (mainly levelling design and surface ones, admittedly) and WoW is better in others (mainly the fundamental gameplay design).

The thing is, that this is not even a subjective view.

Forcing/highly encouraging players to play in a very rigid, predetermined, boring way, is just not optimal design, whichever way you look at it.

Doesn’t mean this game has to be a carbon copy of WoW, but unless they can come up with a watertight design, which is objectively as good, or better, it would be preferable to employ at least some of WoW’s tried and trusted methods, rather than continuing along this faulty path.

There is a mistaken belief that originality is everything in design, but the secret of really good design is knowing what should be redesigned and what it is better to copy.

At least until you know you have something better, anyway.

It would be a lot to explain but to make it simple: I hated almost everything about wow and think GW2 did most of it better and is still doing it better although they messed up since april last year. Anyway, to me this game is still better than wow or any other game I know. The moment I don’t like it anymore I’ll stop playing, I would never demand a game that already existed long before I came along to change so I would be happy, so I don’t understand you.

But, I have once been to behe and was advised to change maps, surprisingly we had no problems to defeat him.

The down mechanic is a fun and interesting one. It adds an extra layer of complexity. As for the “zerker meta” , i think it’s more of a pve design problem . I would look at WvW for ways to make PvE combat more engaging. There zerker is possible but not the dominant build.

Where is the fun and interesting when stealth players have advantage in stealth?
If it is fun and interesting: why is there no down skill stealth skill to attack stealth players?

Let me ask you last question: ask a stealth class how fun and interesting down state is and they will tell you always because Arena net made down state exception only for them.

(I am not angry with you, but want to only give disagree response to you)

" If a company design their games by making Exceptions; It Is Game Over!! they have already lost their players "

Rangers are nearly impossible to kill if they’re alive long enough to call their pet to heal them, also they can interrupt their foe.
Guards can push away groups, so interrupt.
Engineers can also push away groups (but also the people rezzing them) they can also interrupt the stomp like
Warriors who can interrupt a stomp and also get up and use their normal skills (which saved us quite some few times in fractals and also pvp/wvw)
Necros do quite a lot of damage when downed, not only by sucking out the life of the person trying to stomp them but also putting a field under themselves and fear their opponents, thus interrupting a stomp.
Mesmers have clones and can make themselves invisible.
Eles can just run away to safety.
And we have thieves who can port out of AoE and interrupt a stomp by making themselves invisible.
So basically every class can interrupt at least one stomp on their own though the methods are different – you don’t really have a point, sorry.

Well, being forced to craft old legendaries before getting any new ones seems awfully work intensive for something you don’t really want just to get to the one you do want….

Yes, but it’s “just” the precursers, I think. But it would further devalue the “old” legendaries as people like me would just sell their precursers, so it would be precursers from crafting and precursers from drops/MF on the TP – kind of contradicting to the approach they want to have with the new legendaries.

So by that definition the “Mastery track for unlocking precursor crafting” is nothing like leveling weaponsmith or any other craft but independed from crafting the new legendaries (which are a “higher tier” than the existing ones)? I’m not that convinced actually.

Because if they were awarded it would lock them out of getting another one by the new method .

Keep in mind, for people who have a precursor or legendary already, they will be getting the new progression weapon skins automatically and for free come launch day. So that aspect of the rewards is fully retroactive.

True, but I already have all legendaries I wanted, tell me what motivation I have to get one of the existing precursers so i can start to craft a new legendary? (That is how I read it, maybe I’m wrong) – If the new legendaries should be my only motivation that’s pretty boring as I will get nothing of interest for me along the way – no, not even the gold I might get by selling the pre.

Everything in this game is zerg. Go in, zerg it to death, get out. There are no strategies or support rolls… just zerg, zerg, zerg. A lack of strategies, other than zerging, leads me to believe no one in this game knows anything about strategies or support rolls. Which is one of, at least, half a dozen reasons I prefer to play solo. I stay away from pvp, wvw, and any content not meant to be solo’d. It gets tedious and boring to always zerg everything instead of using the brains that we were supposed to be born with.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Having been there, done that, I fully empathize with you.

Sure, especially fractals and dungeons (the topic of this thread) are pure zerg!
And you can always solo pve and wvw, pvp not so much but also possible for a bit at least – you just think that everything in this game is “zerg”, I don’t blame you, a lot of people do.

At 30+ with 20AR you cannot survive a boss. Minimum AR to survive level 30 is 30, but you will still die if the boss stacks more than one agony on you. You need 40AR to not care about agony anymore at 30+ (until 40)

Thank you, but I did survive as the agony isn’t applied constantly so I made it. And I did that fractal because my friends wanted to run it and they knew about my AR but it didn’t matter (to them) – I have been downed 3 times and that was it – still a successful run.

was it the ground pound? In that case as you see the animation you double dodge. You save your dodges just for that. AR on that one is almost worthless as the amount of stacks of agony that he has kills no matter you’re ticking for 1% or 12%.

No, it was the ice elemental and I have never been downed by agony in that fractal again when I got enough AR (I had some before but maybe 20 or 25 and we were running a 30+).

Noob question: when doing the Mai Trin fractal I’m hit with agony before the fight even starts and I think the same happens in any other fractal- it seems as if agony is randomly applied – so how do I dodge it?
And if I can’t then there’s nothing one can do except getting “enough” AR.

Enought AR, healing skill.

I know, but people in this thread were talking about dodging it and “giving someone one chance to survive without AR” although when I hadn’t had enough AR once I have been insta downed by agony, so that kind of puzzles me.

Final Fractal boss agony (Entering Duo arena, maw contant attacks, may trim enter phase) Yes these are unavoidable, the “dodging” here is to use healing.
Now the first tree bosses fractal agony are inflicted upon damage, that can be dodged(albeit a lot of training may be required).

Every ‘boss fractal’ applies agony to everyone in party when they enter the boss room and no you cannot dodge it. This is where you can easily see who has the proper amount of AR and who doesn’t.

Now for your other question all bosses in any fractal have the ability to apply agony to people in your party. This is not done by entering the final area, but rather by getting hit by specific skills. Some skills don’t apply agony if you are hit, but other attacks do and can apply several stacks instantly if you’re not careful.

Ok, I’m rarely in a fractal lower than 34, so I only notice the randomly applied agony.

Thieves can’t stealth without either an enemy around or using a weaponskill (initative) or a skill (cooldown) – so if they miss their burst they have to do the whole process of getting stealthed again which requires undoubtly a lot more skill (be it CnD or timing/spending initative wisely) than rangers spamming rapid fire or warriors filling up their adrenaline level. If someone dodges a backstab the chances of the thief being able to land a successful backstab in that brief time are very slim, so sorry but in my opinion you’ve got no point.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think it’s difficult and only working in theory. Adding luxury items to an existing currency (Ascended trinkets for laurels) is something different than adding neccessary stuff (traits) to skillpoints which are rather hard to come by as a new player. So, I get that a cap meaning that the cost would be lower would be kind of nice as there are people here who have played for a long time, but that still doesn’t mean that they can predict what they’re going to do in the next few months*. For example crafting a legendary (~500 skillpoints, 500 dungeon tokens, 500 badges of honour, ~1 million karma) , starting to do wvw (siege), earning gold for whatever by turning karma into linen.. So by being able to accumulate as much as we like we actually have the freedom to use it whenever we like/need it. I don’t care about the 8 mio karma I own – I still play wvw and I’m not really looking for ways to make use of it – as long as I don’t have to carry that stuff around and fill my bank with it I’m good.

Edit: * and that still doesn’t mean that newer players would profit from that cap – as an example traits for skillpoints (and a lot of other stuff like ascended weapons/armor and so on – it takes a while to accumulate that many skillpoints).

It was a bug and it is now gone, hopefully never to return. And a good thing too.

As an aside, gotta love the reasoning paths of the “supporters” of it:

1) I am bored and need moar challenge! Let’s ruin the game for everyone else so I can grow my e-pickle!
2) A mean 80 killed a mob before I could tag it! Let’s ruin the game for everyone else to salve my e-pickle!
3)(somewhat related to #1) You are all bads and I am a leet dood! L2P and then you won’t mind the super-downscaling! Let’s ruin the game for everyone else so that my e-pickle may proudly protrude!

Never mind that the “superscaling” completely devalued any gear above blues, unless you spend most of your time in the L80 zones or PvP or WvW, and negated all effort put into leveling and gearing. Hell, I guess we might as well get rid of leveling and gearing altogether, have everyone at level 1, with standard gear, and have all zones be of equal difficulty.

Friendliest community my left nut. And yes, I’m gravedancing a bit, but so did all the advocates of “super-downscaling”, and thus sorry-not-sorry.

Let me guess, you started to play this game after april last year, right? Cause before that the downscaling worked.

@OP
FYI the down-scaling has been reverted back to before the camera zoom patch with the latest build(46472).

I have no idea if it was intended or not since nothing was mentioned on the patch notes.

No, it still isn’t like a year ago and the mobs have become slightly harder to kill with the latest patch.

Camera zoom patch wasn’t a year ago… SMH

Seems as if you didn’t understand what I just wrote – but ok.

I don’t know why they don’t just create a hard mode version of each map that you can reach when level 80…

Upgrade all mobs by 1 tier. Normal become Vets, Vets become silvers, silvers become champs… grant a 50% bonus to Magic Find while in a hard mode area.

What this would create: Farming opportunity for solo players. Farming opportunity for groups (as scaling will still have an effect) a different dynamic for a while…

How hard would this be to implement, I am assuming not that difficult as the scaling already exists, set it to x5 and we have a hard mode No? 1 player would =5 5 would equal 25 etc etc.

So you mean a new set of megaservers just for level 80s and level 80s can’t play with their lower level friends anymore? I don’t think that’s a good idea

I am not too concerned about this change but on the other hand why bother having levels at all if a downscaled lv80 is going to be the same as a lv whatever?

Because it makes no sense to be in a low level area as a level 80. Neither for you nor the low levels playing in that area. Only as a level 80 you have access to all traits and the best gear – used to be a bit different a year ago. So actually being level 80 changes quite a bit, no matter whether you’re up- or downscaled.

I didn’t even notice the downscaling, apart from that our zerg of 30 people wiped in gendarren fields at an event I used to solo the past 1,5 years. I was still able to solo the champ troll in sparkfly fen although it took a bit longer but I thought that was due to me lagging. I’m usually running around as a thief, btw.
Anyway – the downscaling was here before and as far as i can remember it was really good, but I can’t say if better or whatever since it’s been a year. On april 15th 2014 a lot of stuff had been changed and one of them was the proper scaling for low level areas. So, if I really noticed a difference I’d say that I’m glad they did it, but unfortunately I don’t and am still confused because of the wipe – so I guess something went wrong.

It starts with an event at the shore where you have to recover chests, then you go uphills, there you have to defend some people from pirates, after that 2 asurans need an escort. After you escorted them Lord Ignius will spawn.
