Maybe you should double check what you are posting. The mystic forge is not a goldsink but a material sink, its as simple as that.
And if I buy materials for 1000g on the tp, only 10% of my gold gets destroyed by the transaction fee, not 15%. The 5% were paid for by the gold of the seller for listing it.
Materials can only create gold, if you sell them to a vendor, so the vendor value is the potential gold gain, you are sinking by throwing them into the forge. If you remove the forge, you need a new material sink, not a new gold sink.
You are a bit picky today – and there’s no reason for that actually: The more mats disappear the more their value will rise, the more people have to pay on the TP to get said material, the more gold will be lost as a fee.
So technically the MF can be seen as a tool to remove gold from the game.
Also I am pretty sure that skillpoints will be changed into heropoints after level 80, the rest will stay the same- but maybe I’m wrong.
Is there any heart that can give me Silk?
I’m building my first Ascended armour and I’m about 150 silk short.
Like most people I have about 1M Karma stacked doing nothing.
People in this thread just told how to make gold out of karma, give it a shot and buy some silk?
I got 4.3 million karma.. does squat…
9,8 mio here
come at me, bro!
Karma is easy made nowadays, I wouldn’t worry too much about spending it.
My karma is from teq and (real) wvw.
WvW is still required in order to make a legendary.
No, EotM is
But you won’t get my point anyway.
We just got rid of wvw map completion because PvE players couldn’t be bothered to play wvw, so sorry but I see your argument as invalid. Need more reasoning?
What does that have to do with anything? You’re now comparing map completion to food.
you have no excuse, the way the game is designed is to encourage you to play other aspects of the game, just want to WvW but still want food but refuse to do anything else? Then buy gems and convert it to gold.
Try to remember what you wrote so you won’t get all confused when I use your arguments =)
An hour a day to get enough gold to buy the food you need for a week isn’t hard, you have no excuse, the way the game is designed is to encourage you to play other aspects of the game, just want to WvW but still want food but refuse to do anything else? Then buy gems and convert it to gold.
I’d love to hear your reasoning behind why my suggestion of doing dungeons for a bit of gold every now and then would devalue the food you use.
We just got rid of wvw map completion because PvE players couldn’t be bothered to play wvw, so sorry but I see your argument as invalid. Need more reasoning?
It’d kill the value of food and the chef tradeskill.
Just go run a few dungeon paths each day.. You can get a guaranteed 10 gold from CoF p1 & 2 and AC 1 to 3, these paths aren’t hard or long to do, then just use the tokens to either buy the skins you haven’t got if you’re interested in that, or buy focuses and salvage them for a chance at even more gold.
Yeah, that makes sense for people who want to play wvw “just play PvE” perfect solution!
Edit: That would kill the value of food as well, btw. As the ones using food are wvw players.
Aaaanddd, the kiss of death.
Someone makes a thread aimed at people who stopped playing WvW and are thus less likely to look in the WvW forum. So, mods move it to the WvW forum. Way to go…
from the General
I think that’s better and attracts more of the right people than having it in the general forum where people who have played it for two hours are reading.
If you’d asked me 1,5 years ago why I quit wvw, you would have gotten “because of stealth”, “because of no commander around” and the usual stuff. As I didn’t know wvw back then, but I’ve been there a few times, so essentially I quit.
If I were to quit wvw now, you would’ve get "because no scaling of objectives and being able to destroy all defensive siege within a tower with a single AC from outside – so it’s impossible to hold a tower against 50 (which is the usual size of “zergs” nowadays)" “Because of double teaming (which is natural, but frustrating nonetheless, I don’t blame anyone for that)” and “because of lags/bugs”.
snip
Every server I’ve been to had all: zergs, blobs, roamers – and I like them all, there’s no need to force people to play in only one way, you can still roam while the rest of your server blobbs around (I’m doing that). And we usually have got epic fights in SM.
I don’t know Eso, but I’m kind of tired of people complaining about zergs. Btw: My current server often has got no commander and we’re still a zerg, sometimes a blob. And commanders help a lot, once you’ve run across a really good commander you’ll understand what they can do and how being with or without a commander/good commander changes the fight.
It is fine, we are after all discussing something that ANet will most likely disregard as they do in most cases. I was just saying that from a convenience point the primers are worth it for some and hence why ANet will not offer them for say badges.
I would like to see WvW only food offered though but it would have to persist as a flag when not in WvW so when you need to enter again after being DC’d or logging out as not to waste the effect. If it were to persist into the PvE world though it would indeed ruin the economy for the crafters. Mind you I never use food in PvE as it is mostly unnecessary so the crafters will still feel the hit; certainly for foods like pots of lemongrass
You’re right, for those who forget to refresh their buffs it is, but still 12 hours is a bit too long – which is another reason why I don’t really like these primers as I’m doing everything with my main, a 12 hours primer would mean that I can’t “afk” in LA anymore, that doing pvp would be a complete waste, doing world bosses, farming, all would be a waste of that primer, so I basically would have to use another character during the time he’s got the primer – and I don’t really like that.
We all use different foods, I wouldn’t really like to be offered only a small range of foods, that’s why I think 2 or 4 hour primers for badges, only useable in wvw would be great and would help in the long run – as I think the price of the foods would rather stagnate.
As expensive as food is for 12 hours does not take into account never having to refresh them as they become a fire and forget convenience. That was my point and not the cost in gold/gems. I myself have bought a few of the extenders during the tournaments for the ability to never have to worry about running out in the middle of a scrim.
Sorry, then I did get you wrong, let me fix it.
Edit: Better?
That was something I wanted to say anyway as of course having these items for gems means that it’s rather unlikely that they will be availlable for gold, I just hope that anet does realize that although theprimers are a good idea they aren’t useful as they are – at least not to the majority of wvw players.
And this again isn’t really directed to you.
(edited by Jana.6831)
Buying gems for the primers is just as expensive as buying the food for the 12 hours and I don’t think that will change as the gem costs rise with the price of everything else.
So, these primers as they currently are aren’t helping at all.
Edit: Unless of course one assumes that gems aren’t bought with gold, still this is only helping a fraction of the wvw player base.
(edited by Jana.6831)
I fear with the removal of guard stacks, the guard population will grow rapidly, with this we may see the return of duplicating guard glitch and thus guard population with double within a days, in weeks we could see guards over whelming towers, even forming zergs of their own and attacking roamers, we could see German guards chasing single players across whole maps.
This is a warning, with out the reward of killing guards their confidence will increase thus causing them to reproduce in greater numbers eventually overpowering player zergs as they are not held to any server cap, i predict that within a month zergs of guards will be spawn camping, ending world vs world as we know it.
As long as they have loot my server will be safe. When they double/triple spawned a lot of dedicated players just build acs and stayed in the towers -they said they got better loot than from running with the zerg.
Upgrades can be strategical. When we’ve lost everything in our BL and I’m the only one on it, flipping camps, I usually buy yak guards so solo cappers will have a harder time to get that camp. I don’t think that will be possible with automated upgrades. On the other hand: We nearly lost our keep again yesterday because someone thought it would be a great idea to buy additional guards while we still had 40 enemies on the second gate. For that automated upgrades are good- I don’t know how it will work out, so just wait and see, I guess.
I have often had this same issue. I always end up choosing human female over human male simply because the only male face that looks decent is Clint Eastwood, and the rest are too feminine.
Well, people say my character looks gay, I say he isn’t gay but just likes to sparkle (which he did the other day due to a bug).
My other thief has got the makeover face and he looks pretty manly, I think. But in the end I’m female so my characters can look as feminine as they want, it doesn’t bother me and I like the animations of male human/sylvari thieves a lot better than the animations of females.
people with more than 2k gold
My god, how? Literally how do you gain so much gold?
No idea, I’m a wvw roamer (upgrader and sieger), the lowest of the low.
but account-wide should only get the reward once.
Which would lead to the dilemma that new player x decides he doesn’t want a legendary, so he unlocks the accountwide map exploration (and sells/destroys/gifts his gifts of exploration) and then decides that he does want a legendary (or more than 2) after all.
Edit: Which would basically be me, I always said I never wanted a legendary, now I’ve got 2 am in progress to make the third, have crafted one for a friend and have got 2 spare precursers I might or might not finish.
I’m not too keen tocomplete the maps on my third char, but I think it’s good there was no such option when I was a rookie.
(edited by Jana.6831)
Why not just make a WvW metabolic/utility primer, purchasable with badges, so the food lasts a lot longer, but you still have to craft/buy from TP.
+1
And/or make it last longer in general – 30 mins isn’t that much.
What if you want to have 3 legendaries?
Also, some people like map completion.
When I leveled most of my alts back in the day I was a pure PvE player and EotM wasn’t around anyway, so I leveled by getting as many waypoints as possible – my usual level 80 character would have 420 waypoints and 35% map completion. I think 420 of ~450 is good and it goes pretty fast actually – and WPs is all you need (for now, in the future you’ll also need skillpoints)
I was going to let it slide, but now I’m just calling you a flat out liar.
It takes 30 seconds alone for a camps bar to progress with 1 person standing in the circle. 6 camps is 3 minutes for that alone. It takes about 1 minute to kill everything in a camp if it isn’t upgraded. that’s 6 minutes. That leaves 6 minutes left to travel which is impossible to do. But lets just say by some form of hacking, you were, you’re also telling me that you would not run into one other person or group along the way to impede your progress and that not one other person would flip a camp back before tick. Bull pucky.
You sound kind of sour.
6 camps, it’s 70 sec for each for me, from start to finish -I need ~40 sec from citadel waypoint to the upper 3 camps. a tick is 15 mins, so it’s 7 mins pure camp capping, 3*40 s = 2 mins to get to the 3 upper camps and I have 6 mins left to get to the three south camps. Rethink calling people a liar?
And yeah, it is possible that people flip a few camps back, that was why I said I held ~4 of 6 camps for a few hours as 2 were usually flipped back but I rotated between all 6 of them. I can however still flip all camps in our BL within one tick.
(edited by Jana.6831)
Well, you are obviously on a very low population server. Like dead. There’s no way that would ever happen on a tier 1, tier 2, maybe 3, but now sure about 3. So, it really isn’t valid as that is where the majority of WvW players are. Sorry to marginalize you.
Don’t know, have been to 4 servers and did it on all of them – mostly during night time. I can flip quite a few camps no matter the time and no matter how many people are around as most people follow the commander.
And I’m currently tier 4, fighting against a T3 server.
D/D is the hardest set up to pull off, mostly because it has got next to no utility. Don’t know when you stopped playing but yes, thief has been nerfed quite a bit- D/D not in particular though. At least not within the past year.
Yes, this is true, but it is more efficient for a server to focus on keeps and towers. A roaming group can get a good 10-15 ppt if they play right.
I can flip all camps in our borderland within one tick – that is 30 PPT – I do that alone and have done it quite a lot of times. I held ~4 of 6 camps in EB for a few hours the other day – was trying to hinder them to upgrade SM to T3. That’s 30 and 20 PPT, just saying. More importantly is the supply cut though.
And I’m not sure how the new system will work out, maybe camps will still be as strategic- I just hope I will still be able to solo cap them.
I think the ranks are fine as it is: Enemy ranks don’t mean anything since EotM anymore anyway. My rank doesn’t mean anything as I’m a roamer and level up really slowly. And when running around with wvw beginners (small scale) I let them use the siege; it would be annoying if someone demanded anyone with a high rank should be the one to use it – people should have the chance to learn, unless it’s really critical.
Sometimes I do wish my rank was shown to my allies (I transfer a lot and people always assume I’m a rookie) but in the end that is rare. I also don’t think that the titles are the reason why I’m lagging.
snip
SB is nice for trashmobs but does a lot less damage compared to unload from P/P.
And against World Bosses you mostly want to do as much damage as possible.
I guess I missed it, but do we know how many ranks it will take to max everything?
Rank 1390
Edit: That’s still silver legend, shortly before gold invader.
Badges:
- are a currency that can’t buy much of worth.
Buy siege and sell it on the TP or give it to your commander – I’m always in need of siege.
I get your point but that would mean that siege would become more expensive and as of now you need tons of them to properly play – 3-4 superior rams for reinforced gates, 6 superior ACs to defend something, trebs, catas, ballis, golems). If they’d increase the drops of siege (which they’ve already done – thanks for that anet!) it might work out.
But gaining ranks is already really easy, I don’t think we need another way to buy them.
Tequatl, Shatterer, and Claw of Jormag are the ones I was specifically thinking about. Tequatl kicks my butt, however Claw of Jormag just laughs at me.
I use P/P for Teq in the first phase, after that I switch to SB and D/D. SB expecially to stack might after the defenses.
Anyway, my favourite is to dodge right under his claws, so I’m dancing in a 900 range in front of him and really don’t care about our zerg, I just do my own thing. Stay out of AOE, dodge the waves. There really isn’t more to it
Sometimes I’m also commanding, but that with my valk/zerker thief, I don’t think I’d be able to command as a full zerker, the AoE is too much. But as a commander I have to stay with the zerg and can’t run all over the place. In that case I’m using P/P and SB from the start to faster eliminate fingers.
Shatterer, the same, P/P.
Jormag: I use shadowstep to place down dynamite in the first phase and defend the golems with a flamethrower in the second – the good thing with this is that you can move at your own pace and get out of combat whenever you like/have to.
I think in the end it comes down to how well you know the boss fights to avoid what is deadly for you = you’ll get there eventually =)
I find the issue of separating and rewarding players who are putting genuine effort into their play versus those that only desire to meet the bare minimum for the reward rather difficult.
This was a problem with the WvW tournament in which players that completed a certain number of achievements were rewarded for the performance of their server as a result of this minimal level of participation. I don’t blame folks for feeling a bit sour about having placed a great deal of effort into helping their server, and receiving the same rewards as another player from their server that did not make a genuine effort to help. This sort of player (many point to these being PvErs) did not really care about their world’s placement; they only cared for the rewards that they got out of it for putting in the minimum effort to get them.
Which tournament do you mean, 2014 spring or fall?
The achievements in spring were a lot harder than in fall and I’m grateful that anet made the fall achievements so much easier.
Here’s why: I have been on the greatest server ever. We were chronically outnumbered and ranked up 7 ranks within 4 months. I can say that the people who have been around on that server back then were the best wvw players I’ve ever encountered.
Since we had a good place in our tier and since everybody wanted to have the mystforged weapons, tons of people transfered to our server. And they knew better as they came from a higher ranked server and you know, everything below one’s server is essentially potatos. So they were doing karma train 24/7 which hurt us as they were leading the public zerg but rather failed to cap the enemy keep than to defend our T3 towers. On top of that we got a zerg of AP hungry PvE players who ran around in their zerker gear and had no idea what to do.
Everybody who had been there before spring tournament was gone afterwards and I Ieft too.
I get your point, but it’s really difficult to reward wvw players without harming them
There have been friendly guards in the NE camp of the borderlands for some time – they just appeared out of the blue when I was capping it – no idea what triggered them, but they have been around for some months.
Edit: And they’re still spawning (this is after the latest patch which got rid of the “usual” guard problem):
(Our team colour is blue)

i’m actually a thief main and i think 1-1.5s revealed if not attacking from stealth should be implemented
Yeah sure – I’ve had tons of troubles yesterday, not only in wvw but also fractals because my thief was broken – it’s always refreshing to hear that “main thieves” think that thief should be nerfed in this way. You might jump around a bit with S/D but that is not everything the class has got and D/x and even P/D needs stealth for condi cleanse – so please think about your fellow thieves before you state that a nerf like this bug would be great.
So very frequent low cool down condition cleansing in combination with stealth is not enough? Your argument actually is that you want unlimited condition cleansing in combination with stealth. I am at a loss here.
But it actually doesn’t matter. I clearly stated that this “bug” alone would not fix things and thieves need compensation. Why are you guys coming up with your straw mans over and over again. It seems like you simply want to silence any “other” voice instead of actually discuss the issue.
What’s your point now?
I explained to you why thieves need to be able to chain stealth – that is all- if that isn’t good enough for you I can’t help you as that’s how the class works- I didn’t state any opinion or anything – I just explained a fact to you.
@yolo swaggins:
I respect you taking the time for a long and reasonable post. I have already acknowledged thought that in order to deal with stealth spam, Thieves need other buffs. What you failed to explain though is, how does 2-3s of reveal after each stealth (Shadow Refuge excluded) limit your abilities. This bug only effected chain steath. Also, if this bug is a “preview” of a future balance change, then you have to see it in the context of the skill system, which will be in place then.
It was clear from my post that I do not think this ‘revealed effect’ alone would solve anything, but it is a step in the right direction when paired with reasonable buffs in other areas.
He did explain it – sometimes one needs to chain stealth to get rid of conditions, either because more are coming in or because the most dangerous ones haven’t been cleared off. With revealed that is impossible and the conditions can’t be cleared.
If you want this bug implemented with the trait system as it is you demand thieves to be free lootbags.
… a more sure method to finding information I could use to finally give this awesome looking class a go.
Watch videos – that is the best way.
snip
snip
Good idea, actually! Very valid arguments and stuff, it’s just like:
“What mesmer clones broken? Just use stealth – mesmers are designed to stealth and use clones- don’t rely on clones!”
or:
“Longbow broken for ranger? Well, just go melee, rangers are designed to be a ranged and a melee class”
“What? Adrenaline broken? What are you complaining about? Warriors are designed to be tanky and do damage..”
“What Aegis doesn’t work? Use a shield, Guardians are designed to be tanky and protect others, don’t rely on only one of the options!”
“Deathshroud broken? Well you already have got 2 weaponsets – don’t complain, Necros are designed for.. umm..doing damage?”
I hope you realize how poor your argumentation is.
And yeah this change completely breaks my build as all of it relies on stealth – might, condi removal, burst – and I don’t think that this is because of my bad descisions but because the traits are designed like this. And if anet wanted to implement a change like this I sure hope they offer a solution/compensation to all what is now bound to stealth.
Ps: Anet please don’t listen to these guys, most of them are rangers in disguise who want thieves to be nerfed, the rest of them is theorycrafters who haven’t played since beta.
Thief is in a very strong position in every game mode and your post comes across like something you’d expect from necros or rangers…
“..but thieves – even if they’re bugged they shouldn’t complain about anything because teefs so stronk!”
Anyway, back to topic: confirmed – happens also in PvE. And mesmer stealth destroys my stealth as well.
ETA: Also I’m revealed after having been stealthed – without having hit anything.
(edited by Jana.6831)
I’m revealed while stealthed all the time – for no reason, so I pop SR and just stand there immediately get the revealed debuff although my character is still glassy for me which he isn’t anymore after about 3 seconds. This is after the latest patch.
Did i say mean thieves? i say thieves are as good as rangers just alot of thieves have no idea of their enemy skills thats has nothing to do with how overpowered rangers are. if a thief teleports to me i change to greatsword turn around and hit 9-10k dmg with Maul on him i cant disagree saying that isnt Op but on same time ranger is the only class i ever played in 2 years of GW2 so i really like to master it
You do realize that you back up my point, do you?
But thanks!
I always use knockback as my first skill before fight and then rapid fire cause i use quickening zephyr i wanna finish my rapid while the enemy is knock backed so they wont be able to stealth or dodge it
And that’s exactly what I meant.
Oh and btw: Please get rid of sic em or don’t allow rangers and engis to stealth, or give thieves the ability to destroy the healing, burst and defense of rangers and engis.
And that is all. Just wanted to back up the OP and have said all I’ve said now in other threads as well- I hope anet will listen some day.
All characters i very overpowered if played right to say thief and ranger is probably the best to roam and take camps with solo means they are supposed to be good 1v1 but holy kitten i see alot of dumb thieves i can use signet of stone on my ranger and see thieves just using everything they got they might know how to play their own character but have no idea what they playing against. i also see alot thieves attacking me while i have counter attack up and if they use shadow refuge i usally use my knock back and just hope to be lucky or else im gonna kite around untill his stealth is out and then throw everything i got again u find alot rangers using longbow on melee distance which sickens my eyes
Nice, whenever it’s about rangers there’s always rangers coming up with the “oh so mean thieves” You guys don’t have any other arguments, have you?
Snip
I disagree with you in all points – there are classes which are fairly easy to play – to me D/D power thief is the easiest as I know it the best. In reality it’s the hardest class/build to play.
I never said ranger was easy to play just that the class itself promotes bad gameplay which leads to people calling ranger underpowered which leads to buffs which leads to good rangers being completely overpowered as they know how to play, unlike the usual ranger. And that is wrong. Make rangers use two or more skills to get their rapidfire, maybe that is a start.
point blank shot + rapid fire VS stealth + backstab
which is more broken? how about, skullcrack + 100b, how broken is that? does that fit into the the game? seems like most zerker builds have a cc + burst combo that wrecks.
(sure, stealth is not a cc but it’s still a 2 skill combo with 1 skill to set up, and 1 skill to burst)
You seem to refuse to get my point, so I’m not so sure it makes sense to answer you any further.
Rapid fire is pressing 2 – that’s all.
Stealth = one or multile buttons – backstab requires positioning – a lot more work than pressing one button.
A good ranger is “ridiculously OP” as they have a lot of useful skills but the regular ranger doesn’t know them as he doesn’t need them as his #2 burst is good enough.
Finally get my point?
No, no free transfers, please.
The best thing in wvw is the community which would likely be destroyed if too many “strangers” came there at once- so you’d have the situation you have on NA: you can see when and where big guild transfered to a server and when they left as most up to silver/gold league have giant leaps in their ranks – disposable servers without identity.
one of my alts is a 44600 signet ranger with LB GS. i play its super in your face and aggressive, basically treating it like a static discharge engineer. perhaps I’m not a ‘ranger’ but I definitely dodge and have back up plans, as do all of the ranger mains i know. i have not noticed rangers being worse than players of any other class.
sure you get a lot of bad rangers, but most players of every class are bad because most players are bad. it’s not exclusive to ranger.
Good for you, but that wasn’t my point – my point is that the class is broken and doesn’t really fit into this game, unless you go all melee ranger which is “stupid” given that LB is that strong – again my point.
Yes another ranger QQ post.
Why Anet? Why can I not find a decent fight before some no-skill longbow ranger bursts me down from 1500 range on a wall. IT MAKES NO SENSE. There is no movement in their strategy, no thought in their skill usage and no variation in their builds.
It’s a kittening disgrace to a game that used to have fun combat.
This needs to change.
I agree. Ranger promotes bad gameplay. You see it when you use a counter skill and they can’t burst you down with knockback + rapid fire- they move slowly backwards and clutch their LB and obviously have no idea what to do next. That includes ranks from invader to mithril veteran. There’s an odd 3% of rangers who have got a backup plan and who know they’ve got a second weaponset.
Rangers don’t have to dodge anything in PvE as they’re usually far away, their burst is pressing one button wheras most if not all classes use several skills to burst, so rangers always think they’re too squishy and weak as they’re not used to dodging and not used to using multiple skills.
You can’t cap anything because everything is friendly- we have 30 commanders on our map chasing NPC bosses.
Oh anet, really? This has got to be the king of bugs – I mean it is funny, for about 2 mins, then there’s not much to kill anymore.
Ranger pets or rune pets don’t stealth either so don’t clones or elites like thieves guild-
It would be new that any following npcs would stealth with their owner = that is no bug.
But I do love people with minis in wvw- they invest that much in stealth and clones and whatnot and yet I always know where they are.
The enemy NPCs keep respawning after taking over a tower (and who knows what else), so they’re not only killing other npcs in the tower but also all siege in there and they create white swords.
Edit: We’ve taken over Bravo about an hour ago – and I’m killing off enemy npcs every 5 mins.
how many stacks do u get in 30-45min there=?
Not even one
