Now, for an innocent question, I graciously note that mostly the men here are claiming that I’m “whining”…* scratches head *

It’s an innocent question, one I am laughing about. Okay, some of you gals don’t care what gender the game population thinks you are. Okay, cool…

Thank you to those who answered the question without any kind of opinionated disdain.

To those of you who are answer the question with a large amount of prejudice… I love you guys, you make me laugh… your input on the subject is less than insightful, not quite intelligent and anything but friendly. Thanks for making me laugh even harder. Some of you are shaking your heads, you say? yeah well, so am I…

And the last part is quite funny, seeing as you don’t really have a clue about if I am a man or not, so you are basically doing exactly what you are whinging about others doing.

And threads like this is the reason many people have issues with “girl-gamers”.

Does it really matter? I was under the impression that girls wanted to be treated no different from guys when playing. But apparently it is important enough that you are a girl to warrant creating a thread about it?

Uhhh… yeah… because lemme tell ya, should the situation be reversed, how many times does someone have to call you a girl before you feel the need to step up to that plate? lmao….

(Oh, and btw, that was an A-Class, 100% typical male comment you gave there… pat pat)

lmao, I am so sorry to make this thread, I am, but I would not be me if I didn’t.

A few years ago, I called my friend in Ohio, he’s a big gamer, so I had to ask him this.

First of all, I am Jamie, 34/FEMALE/Pennsylvania… Yeah, hi there, how ya doing? Nice to meet ya. What is the deal behind most of the gaming population of any game thinking only males play this game? I know guys think the world at large runs off of testosterone but… lmao.

Now my friend from Ohio generally answered the question with honesty, saying that in his opinion, back in the day when gaming was first born, it generally lured the men. Us gals, we rather stick to out make up, nail polish and gabbing away on the phone. This is not to say every female was like this, but most were.

“Times, they are-a-changing… more and more gals play online MMOs and are actually rather good at it. This can prove to be another gender-identified threat!!! This is a MAN’S world, dang-nabbit! How dare the ladies have the ability and intelligence to do what we guys do, and – dare I say – in some cases, do it even better then guys do?”

I have been posting on this forum for a while now and just last night I posted about a decline in ectoplasm salvaging. In that post, I see one of you referred to me, (yet again) as a man…

(dies laughing)

I just, I mean… come on now. My husband would be 2 clicks above suicidal if he found out he married a man. And I hate to tell ya, husband and I both play GW 2, and in THIS house-hold… even he agrees, I am the better player. I have 11 lvl 80s, and he has 5 lvl 80s…

Listen. Two months from now will be about a year and a half from release. A year and a half after GW1 release, we already had Factions and Nightfall. That’s two new continents, four new classes, two new skillsets for all classes, new PvP modes, two entirely new stories, multiple elite dungeons, and bunches of other things. At near the same point in GW2 we’ve got…Southsun? Fractals? Temporary content? Did you guys set the bar too high last time or what?

In two months we’d better be sailing ships into Cantha. Zhaitan is dead; the path is open. Let’s go already.

I couldn’t help but wonder this. I have had conversations with friends about it.

As I am sure many of you know, you do get ectoplasm from salvaging lvl 68+ rare loot. As I am sure many of you also know and also make your own lvl 68+ loot just to salvage them to gain your own ecto stash.

I have noted by using a Master’s Salvaging Kit, stated to give you a 25% chance of recovering rare materials, use to give me, on ratio, 1 ecto per salvage. USED TO… that is. Basically I would make like say 120 pairs of rare gloves, salvage them and come out with anywhere from 98 to 125 ecto.

Just today, I made 130 gloves, salvaged them and only came out with 67 ecto.

Errr…. anyone else notice the salvage decline on ectoplasm or… am I not drinking enough coffee?

As I have told my mother, who plays this game, when she stated angrily that she was sick of farming and had nothing else to do, I told her: Everything you do in this game in farming in one aspect or another. Farm loot, farm money, farm exp, farm tier materials.

It’s all one big farm, which is all any MMO is really, in my opinion.

I suggest you take a look at the wiki. You have to take into account all pieces of info from both games. All the lore about each race/sub race, God/Elder Dragon… their killable offspring and ofc, the Demons.

From what I can tell:
We don’t know where the Gods are from and the extent of their power. We know they can be subdued. We know they have power over Magic as they have given it to many of the races of Tyria. They are known in many realms(but oddly enough, realms that inhabit the races of Tyria +/- a Demons)

We know Elder Dragons eat magic. We don’t know where the Elder Dragons are from and the extent of their power.

We know both can be subdued. We don’t know if they can be killed.

Zhaitan may or may not be dead. We just know that we have stopped him for the time being.
Abaddon isn’t dead.
Dhuum isn’t dead.

On the off chance that the Gods are actually stronger the Elder Dragons, they don’t mess around in Tyrian affairs. All they do in the first game is show favor, blessing you with minor buffs. They don’t intervene at all. Not since they went to war and eventually imprisoned Abaddon and then left Tyria for good shortly after.

I never said Abbadon or Dhuum were dead, I recall stating specifically that Abbadon was exiled.

So, okay, this is for people who have the creativity for story writing here… and even the ones who kinda don’t but at least understand it?

One of the major things that bugged me about the GW 2 overall present story line is: The power of a dragon.

Anyone who has done the Lyssa event has heard or read this: “The Dragon ate your Gods…”

Okay, lets back up a few ticks here.

Gods.

I have come to find in the last 10 years or so when exploring and considering many different story lines is that a God is the end all-be all of cosmic power. Right? Err… maybe not.

Beings of significant ability, no matter what it is has been considered a deity in the eyes of humans. An assumption. Gods are NOT Gods in reality, yet are only perceived as such by fragile mortals.

Okay, now Balthizaar, Grenth, Dwayna, Lyssa, Melandru, Komir…. even the exiled God Abbadon… have all been to our knowledge as Gods, the end-all, be-all of cosmic power. Should this be true rather than mass speculation, then how is that the elder dragons have such an ability to cut off passage to the Underworld and the Fissure of Woe, literally barring the Gods to enter Tyria? They are overgrown flying lizards with magic, I get that, but if a God is the end-all/be-all of cosmic power, then how can they find themselves thrown out of the Tyrian amusement park having had the big magical lizards lock the entrance gate?

In MY eyes, when considering Gods to be the end-all be-all, meant that they have no power over or even equal to their own. Dragons would not be a challenging threat to a God…

This conversation revolving solely around Fiction and in Fiction, anything is possible, that is understood, but… are there not some garden variety rules set into the place when brewing up this kind of story?

Thoughts, anyone?

I think ANet deserves a little more credit.

I think they expected the community to embrace horizontal progression and instead they got a lot of “there’s nothing to doooooo” whining.

Its been shown in threads similar to this that those sort of comments were hardly overwhelming at the time.

In the first few months of the game there really wasn’t that much to do, and of the few things to do, a lot of people complained about grinding. (grinding dungeons for skins, grinding for legendaries, grinding for map completion, grind for karma).

From what I’ve seen people were complaining about an endgame. Everyone expected to to get into raids/make endgame gear or whatever when they hit 80. They complained that there isn’t any form of (vertical) progression.

There was a ton to do, in fact, much more than your conventional game because nothing is relegated during the leveling process (ie, you don;t end up grinding the same 2 dungeons to gear up for raids), but there wasn’t anything which you could do that you couldn’t do before, and in terms of power, you’re capped at 80, which apparently people didn’t like.

I don’t really care much about the plot or the story of a MMO, because the design focus just inherently means the delivery is going to be sub-par to that of a single player game (look at where SWTOR’s amazing story delivery got it into, and how FF14’s storytelling compares to other recent FFs).

What I care about is the actual gameplay. That’s whats a bit concerning at the moment. Two things:

1. Stuff being temporary. Molten Facility was amazing, Aetherblade Retreat wasn’t as great, but it was still good, and I loved Scarlet’s Playhouse. But they’re all gone. (yes, I can still experience the first 2 in FotM, but that means I’d have to wade through other stuff to have a chance to play them again).

2. The rewards. They’re terrible. I don’t think I need to say more.

Did you take a look at the Fractals Living Story end reward?

Ascended mats?

lmao, really??? When I am sitting on over 70 bloodstone bricks and 30+ Empreal shards?

I do not imply any hatred in my post either but a couple friends of mine and I feel that with the Living Stories… since my friends and I are writers out side of the game, that the Living Stories, most of the time are… rushed, to put it nicely.

It’s hard for me an others to feel as if this is a well-rounded, solidly based continuing story. We feel as if Anet is just threw things out there for their players to do while they sit there and fumble-toss ideas looking for the nice BIG awesome thing.

I give ANet all the credit I have to give honestly, but to come up with this next big ground breaking Living Story every 2 weeks, I feel giving them no justice and giving we the players, even less than that.

Perhaps if they spaced out the timing on Living Story Releases, it would give them more time to brew up something… a little more interesting… and FUN!

And living story aside, we GW 1 players are still questioning and will always question: Where is Elona? Where is Cantha?

They neither confirmed or denied that those continents even still exist. Neither confirmed nor denied if we would ever set foot on them again. Why? Why not?

For all you GW 1 players, I am pretty sure most of you are just dying to know what Palawa Joko is up to, and ya know he’s up to something after a quarter century. We know he still lives, he’s a Zombie with an I.Q. for crying out loud, and one of my favorite sneaky, under-handed not-quite-an-ally/not necessarily-a-bad-guy that ANet offered to us.

I think ANet is putting themselves in a tight spot. We know they can do better, we’ve seen them do better. They’ll do it again, I have faith.

Okay, it’s based off a T3 Racial armor. Big deal, lol… I think the flames compliment the armor nicely. but, oh, who am I kidding….? someone spent 120 gold of fake money, something that doesn’t truly exist and now they are outted imaginary money? Really? Just because the Flamekissed, in essence, is NOT exclusive? It’s because of that, me and others may be penalized someone else’s dislike of the concept, even though WE knowingly bought it cause we loved it.

Oh yes, that’s real fair.

And where do you think those 120g plus transmutation come from? You find it reasonable people spend hours to gather that amount of gold only to be presented by pretty much identical set that would cost less than half as much time or gold?

Do you find it reasonable for players who legally paid for such a thing to have it removed it from them as a bait and switch-which is what it all looks like right now?

Human T3 without the particle effects looks nicer than its fiery version, and is still exclusive to Humans. I consider the Flamekissed version to be an affordable variant, not necessarily an improvement. It shouldn’t have been based on human T3, IMHO, but it’s too late for that. The fact is that the human variant never lost its exclusiveness due to it being the original, “vanilla” model that no other race had access to.

I agree. No other races will ever be able to wear the actual T3 Cultural… I think that is, always was and always will be exclusive, despite any future armors inspired by it…

I guess all I am saying is, for those of us who did buy Flamekissed, please let us keep what we paid for? You already took it down, it’ll be no longer available to buy. Isn’t it okay to just leave it at that?

I respect everything ANet does for this game and it’s players. I may not totally agree with every major decision they make, but in the long run, we know these decisions were made for specific purposes.

Unfortunately, for those of us player much like I am, who know why these things have to be done, we do have to also contend with the whole other spectrum of players who whine about every cotton-pickin’ thing under the sun when it comes to this game.

I honestly get fed up with those players and the players who keep insisting on and/or comparing this game to Worlds of Warcraft and how they want mounts and druids and this and that…. I truly believe that ANet or any other MMO out there is never going to have the ability to please every player. End of story.

I think many just need to suck it up, get over it and just stop complaining about everything all the time. When you truly think about it, ANet’s always done right by we players.

I thank you very kindly for that, Arena Net.

Do you think we will experience what we lived though with the Ascended weapon update when the time comes for Ascended Armor?

Do you think the Trading post for Gossamer and Ori will spiral out of control, hence showing the inevitable greed of Tyrians just in time for 2014?

You should have asked him, if he played a game.
Work? Blood? Sweat? Tears? Seriously? Sometimes I secretly hope for a level cap raise just for ANet having a chance to finally do horizontal progression right by neutralizing the playfield.

LOL… well, he was an old guild leader of mine, one I am no longer in, this guild was a 400+ member guild and he is a huge gamer… very protective of the work he’s done, and what he had to go through to do it. When he told me he would quit… I told him to “Grow up, sparky…”

Nothing in these games are ever 100% permanent.

Example? (2 weeks ago, I took this… What to you see?)

Now what if I told you I am down to 70g as of this morning?

What’s ever permanent?

I noticed last night that the price of Gossamer and Ori shot up a bit…

I am only speculated that somewhere, someone maybe heard a possible rumor that Ascended Armor update was around the corner…?

Did anyone else notice this last night…?

I see… no, no… in fact I had one tell me… that if they increase the level ratio beyond 80, he’ll QUIT. All the work he had done, money and time he spent to get armors or… his legendary… that would all be negated if the level cap was raised. That he’d have to buy knew armor, his legendary no longer max’d… All the work, blood, sweat and tears to be where he wanted to be at 80, just goes to put if they increase to level cap.

I am a 7 yr veteran of GW 1, and when GW 2 came out, I was so so so excited. Now after a year of GW 2, I am help but sit and wonder, with the profound sadness of knowing and.. well, NOT knowing what is in store for GW 2’s future… I see so many thing they are adding and though it is something to do and it is fun… I look at my wonderful map of Tyria.

We have all done the Temple of the Forgotten God, better than that, in the land of Tyria, the Goddess Komir is often mentioned, and in Divinity’s Reach:

“It is so hard to find good Canthan cuisine anymore. "

“Well, what do you expect? 100 years without trade? Hard to keep things authentic.”

“My Grandma use to make great Red Bean Cakes. I would KILL for one right now. I bet you think I’m joking…”

“Uhhh, I… hear the commons have some. I would show you, but… I have somewhere to be… now. Good day!”

These things mentioned makes it impossible for me to ignore and not yearn for the return of… Cantha and Elona. Sheesh, I go up to EotN just to look around and reminisce.

Anet people, why aren’t you bringing our entire world back to us? As much as I terminally miss my Rituatlist and Paragon, I would live without them find if I could just have more land to travel upon. I keep going to the same places over and over and over and… over again and… we all know for a fact the world is bigger than this.

Will we ever step foot on these lands again? I so miss looking at, running away from and/or killing the Djinn. (sniffs)
