I would much appreciate some kind of unique skins or finishers for WvW progression, indeed.
At the end of the day though I think WvW’s best reward is that it’s fun and you get to make friends on your server and other servers and if you’re good, you might even win someone’s respect.
This argument is invalid. There is no reason that we cant have everything that you listed AS WELL AS worthwhile/unique rewards.
YOUR argument is invalid as what may be “worthwhile” to you may not be to the next person.
With all due respect (guess how much), this whole thread stinks of PVDoor/grinders that fretted/worried/obsessed over Achievements and/or PPT for 7 weeks and are now “sore” about the reward, and instead of out and out foot stomping tantrums you are trying to mask it by saying things like “unique” and “worthwhile”….
At the end of the day, “the overwhelming majority” will OFC agree with your sentiment, because they are full of kids that want everything the easy way. In people’s mind they think they argue for a “unique” item, then ANET will come in and go overboard with S2 rewards….
It is an absolute joke, the worst kind of joke…..Who plays WvW for loot/skins anyway????
Most of the serious players have less than 10% map completion (most of that being in Orr for karma temples), couldn’t tell ya where a world boss spawns, and have crappy looking WvW skins….Do you know why? Because none of this kind of QQ matters to us.
As much as you hate other people generalizing, you should probably stop doing so yourself.
I spend 90% of my time doing the non-zerg, non-reward stuff on map. I play (or used to) 10-14 hour days, seven days a week since November. I have skipped all the living story content since February pretty much to WvW. I consider myself a pretty hardcore/serious WvW player.
Was I let down by the quality of the rewards based on the time put into the effort? Yep. And I’m not typically motivated by rewards … but these felt like little thought was put in to reflect the amount of effort expended. That’s what bothers me the most: The rewards were throw away. I would have even been cool with only the top three finishers of each tier getting something unique — bragging rights (and it would have not included my server) — but we didn’t even get that.
They’re on scouting duty since no one else volunteered…… XD
lol Vizunah does that. If nobody volunteers to scout, their commanders do it to emphasize the importance of the role. Usually that gets some volunteers, from what I hear
Probably why they’re so coordinated.
I am an American who just started playing on a EU server . I have no issues with lag/ latency issues, in terms of one being better than the other. The only thing I found is that in general the EU servers have far more WvW population over the NA servers, which means you have bigger zergs which of course means huge fights that sometimes means lag. But even then I haven’t had much of a problem with this because my play hours are in a none EU prime time.
Also according to IP addresses EU servers are in Texas, the last time I checked.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/258575-have-the-eu-servers-bewen-moved-to-usa/
All I can tell you, having played both sides of the pond extensively, is it’s exactly the same for my experience.
Depends on the week. As others have mentioned, it’s exactly the same really. I’m NA playing on EU and played NA for the first nine months after launch. While there have been some weeks that have been “buggy” .. those weeks were reported on the forums as problematic by both NA and EU players. And after they did some magic lag patch a couple weeks ago, we can even have massive three-way battles and not a bit of lag, it’s quite remarkable. Terribly happy about that
Also I run on every friday in Dolyak form before reset in EB. I get focused by many groups of people in open field when I am not even attempting to fight them.
I’ve actually run SFRBL in doly form and the majority of SFR who saw me either cheered or waved. Was nice
I have friends who play oceanic and have said the lag is actually less for them on EU.

Yeah but nobody is obligated to tag up y’know? If there’s no friendly commander, then maybe as a server pick out a potential candidate, train him and buy his tag?
It’s been my experience that a competitive server needs both organized guilds and defensive minded folks, along with a rotation of commanders who will help steer the zerg.
And, as mentioned previously, this guild is pretty good about running public raids on a daily basis. My feelings are that if they want some private time to run as a guild, they deserve it. They are pretty blunt though, lol. Tact is not their strong point
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Ahh, I see. Isn’t that what GvG is for though? Or do these guilds want the experience of “[X] is holding the Keep. Let’s see if our guild [Y] has the skill to dislodge them, using only guildmates!”? So basically, GvG, but within WvW mechanics instead of just an open-field slugfest?
Naw it’s just a different (cultural) mentality towards WvW play. NA and EU are very different modes of play. One isn’t any better than the other. Just different. They will flip towers and keeps, but mostly to get the fights
Causic most guilds on Piken do run untagged for closed guild events, but we always have one tagged commander on map for the friendlies. Sounds like the OP in this thread ignored that commander and followed the untagged OP commander when asked to follow the tagged one and got shouted at for ignoring original requests. If there is a tag up on map, everyone is welcome to join.

(Very) casual WvW player here, so I just want a clarification on something someone posted earlier. They said that guilds don’t want randoms joining them because that “makes a blob”. What exactly is a “blob” and why is that a bad thing?
I can at least make an educated guess at what “rally bait” is.
Blob is a dirty word in EU. Subsequently most guild raids run untagged and smaller (typically no bigger than 20-25). Guilds want to fight other guilds here, and the fight becomes non existent when one has a much larger blob than the other sides. It’s about proving your teams skill vs same numbers. Every server blobs, but it feels like EU servers at all tiers at least try to get away from that mentality. Doesn’t always work though.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Try EU.
Most won’t actively recruit you here, but do some research and see who appeals. Most have an application process and two week tryout. Some are closed to any recruiting but will occasionally add the exceptional player.
Best bet is do your research, find out who’s the leader and then message them in game.
You can start at www.gw2gvg.com and then cross reference to YouTube videos, guild sites etc…
Good luck.
Psst you already can get them with the last patch:

See second recipe.
This kind of thing would be better on the private forums. Here:

What the other poster suggested rings true. If you don’t like what’s going on, there are four maps. Pick one that makes you happy. Since they are actively asking people not to follow (my guess is to improve themselves as a guild for future GvGs), there are plenty of other options.
That said, if Jin ran over my body and didn’t rez me, I’d bite his ankles off. But we have that kind of relationship. :p
Maybe he wanted “neutral” arena for discussion. Server specific forums can be a bit hostile when somone presents dissenting view and moderation can be biased. There is also something to gain with outside view from other servers.
@OP: Shaming guild is probably bad idea. If it is actual harrasment, then report them.
Oh I can understand that
But I think naming the guild served no purpose than to otherwise try to embarass them into doing something they didn’t want to do. Can’t force people to play your way, etc .. You can, however, make choices that are right for you.
If it was an academic conversation about this situation, there was no need to name the guild, as you said. But typically Piken doesn’t air its dirty laundry. And the private forum has never been heavily moderated. You’re on it aren’t you? You know what I’m talking about then, lol.
Again, for those in this thread: This particular guild runs open raids where everyone can join in almost daily .. after they do their closed guild raids. They are one of the biggest open “everyone can join” groups on Piken. SFRJ used to do the same thing. Then they got tired of it because it was nonstop demand. And they stopped doing it. Respect each other’s playstyle. If a guild wants to run untagged and just the guild, let them, particularly when they pitch in and help and include EVERYONE every day later in the night.
And frankly the best lesson people can learn in WvW is if you die, revive. Don’t expect people to rez you, because often there’s a million good reasons why they can’t. If you’re lying there more than a minute, revive and run back and fight.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
Sounds like a bunch of kitten who can’t handle a few unknown ‘variables’ or a few deaths and repairs.
Naw it’s likely a close guild event, Piken has always been like this: Guilds act independently and run their own guild-focused events working on whatever they want to … untagged.
OP has a commander that runs open raids after their closed raid events are done, and it sounds like this was misunderstanding between the open vs closed raid.

Awesome video of Arika from the last week of the league
A view from SFR side, how outnumber we were and how many “pink hair” actually had on me to fight all of your madness guilds n pugs zergIt was a lot of fun to fight Piken n Viz that day.
GG GF, hope to see that kind of fights soon again.
SFR will never give away an objective without a fight
The mini map shows about 50-60 SFR in garrison? Lol, wish we had that many responding when ours gets hit. Great video, looks like it was an epic fight.

It’s against forum terms of service to do this. Your only recourse is to file a support ticket under “violations” .. because any thread like this will be deleted.
I don’t believe we’ve had issues but every college email is different. You can get an email from live.com or gmail.com for free and those seem to have the least problems, tell him to try that if he’s concerned.
And yes, NA and EU testers are on the same server.
Our instructions specifically stated it could not be a Gmail.
My instructions specifically said it couldn’t be yahoo. My account is tied to a yahoo email. I got replies without issue. And used my yahoo email.
The reason for the warning is because of this:
You don’t need to zone into WvW to get it. Should be a little box at the lower right of your screen. Try logging in and out. If it doesn’t work, I think you’ll have to submit a support ticket.
I think it’s not just the pugs but even major gw2 guilds will feel that it’s time to stop playing wvw. The rewards will forever be dismal and non-unique.
Oh?
Then they are quite clearly not WvW-guilds. Since every single real WvW-guild have been aware since release that playing WvW for rewards is stupid, and play it for the sake of having fun instead.
Stop saying that. I probably play more WvW than you and do all the non-reward jobs that are vital to a map. And I don’t do WvW for the rewards, you’re right, there aren’t any really. But this was the inaugural season. People should have gotten something beyond a handful of greens and a rare. Account bound cloak or something, even if it was just a skin.
Are you in Orr using that?
I think what’s got people irked is that there appears to be very little thought put into the fact that this was the longest achievement meta of anything Anet has put out — and even the two or three week living story achievements got unique back items, something to commemorate one section of one living story or another.
I’m not a reward-motivated person. I spend 90% of my time in WvW doing all the non-reward based jobs. I felt we needed something thoughtful and representative, particularly since it went on a very long time and was the inaugural season. And particularly for those who won the leagues (my server didn’t, but that doesn’t matter to me). The greens and rares and RNG feels like it took very little thought for something a lot of people put a ton of time and effort into.
Reset gold Tier 1 match:
No queues on most Piken maps.
SFR players reporting zero queues .. on EB.
Yup.
I want someone to quote me ANet employee saying the WvW Rewards chest would be really good and awesome.
I can’t comment at this time as we haven’t finalized anything. In addition, you should look at it this way, if people flee lower league servers to get into the top leagues, it opens the opportunity for people to move to those lower leagues and finish 1st or 2nd, rather than being in the top league and finishing 6th or 7th. The rewards for finishing 2nd in the Bronze League will be markedly better than the rewards for finishing 6th in the Gold league.
Markedly better is not 1 exotic or a couple rares vs. bunch of greens.
We needed something permanent (outside of the mini dolyak), given the leagues were a significant 7-week venture. It should have been something account bound and related to the first league event. Not some random junk.
At least it gave us something to anticipate for 7 weeks. Slightly less anticipation for season 2 though.
Yep. I truly believe this has nerfed season two participation. Would not be surprised if we see a massive drop off this coming week, and going forward.
Piken didn’t deserve 3rd place in no way. GG double teaming. Too bad you screwed up Baruch because of it.
Perhaps you should take the advice of your sig line.
Eh, I’m inclined to agree with the OP. Probably because I’m on one of those servers in third/fourth spot and I know my server (Piken) had one of the hardest matchups in the leagues. Felt we kind of deserved third … and it didn’t take anything away from any other server — and we’d have shared it with BB.
Just got them. And no it’s nothing special. Not something you expect after 7 weeks of battle.
Yeah I’m not confident about population effort for season two now. Still curious about first and second spot rewards though.
Here’s what it looks like when you log in:
Congratulations to Vizunah for a well played season. You guys lined up all the planets: pve achievers embraced, 24/7 dedication, good scouting, good defense and deserve the first spot.
Congratulations as well to everyone else I had the pleasure of facing this season. You guys made the game a good challenge and the season a winning one for all (everyone had their little victories, so it’s all good!).
Second is the cow supplies draining.
It has been stated on a thread in this forums but the rate of the poison tick is too strong, completely OP at the moment. The supplies flux has been affected greatly because of this. In overall with this, the seiging process takes 2-3 times more. Even if you do it by the book.
But the worst is that it greatly encourage the ZERG mentality. Gather everyone in the map and lets rush this gate….
Disagree completely. I, by myself, have gotten walls down in keeps and towers (that had trebs firing), running solo supply to a cata — without the benefit of a zerg to help me. You just have to be smart about placement. Trebs cannot fire directly under themselves. Nor at other particular angles. I think the folks complaining about trebs in the various threads likely haven’t used trebs much themselves. Take an afternoon and experiment placing and building and see for yourself the limitations.
The treb cows actually punish the zerg because the green mist covers all of them and forces them to resupply often. If your team is too slow to move out of the mists when they see it drop (it takes 1 supply per tick), then that’s a bit silly no? Worse still, I’ve seen enemy being hit by the cows and just stand there, lol. The cows actually make it more difficult for a massive blob to come in and just steamroll a gate. That’s a good thing. Makes players think and figure out other ways in.
If you are having issues with the cows depleting your supply, scout out the tower or keep you want to attack and then find an angle that the treb cannot hit. Trebs are slow to be moved from one direction to another, so be aware of where the enemy siege is, and then hit. Smarter still, have two or three different areas of attack so the treb has to pick which target — again it’s slow to move from one location hit to another. It’s pretty simple.
I’m ambivalent about splash damage. Often it’s the only way to counter a massive golem attack when you are madly outnumbered and the enemy has 60 players at your gate with 10 golems and you have maybe 10 people inside defending.

There were posts in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Edge-of-the-Mists-Testing-Update-Updated-12-5
saying some people applied with their guilds only yesterday and got an invite.
Are you canadian? EU is terrified of Canadians and I want to amass a force of Tim Hortons lovers on Piken so we can hide in the bushes and jump out and yell BOO!
In all seriousness, if you haven’t played EU yet, you should give it a try. Different game where (outside of the leagues) it’s more about the fights and far less about the ppt meta. In EU they know it’s a game and not a second job.
Bonus: no organized karma trains in EU.
Coming Piken bonus: themed Saturday raids. But you’ll have to join to find out
P.S. Canadians reading this! Contact me in game, *wink, wink

I think he was being sarcastic.
Right click report them as gold sellers. Had about six today myself.
Oh it’s not about appreciation, I get plenty of that, and my server loves loves its scouts. I’m just pointing out the reason why I, and others like me, likely won’t be grinding out ascended gear. And how it affects the WvW maps as a whole. The gear shouldn’t be in WvW. Particularly when it rewards only those who zerg.
I’m on Piken
Would LOVE a duel! I try to get them when I can in WvW.
My faceplants Kirito came from not knowing the maps, not the mechanics. I have to say Skyhammer was not a favourite, lol.
Sadly I tried hot join today and it wasn’t my cup of tea, it felt a lot like WvW zerging, something I actively avoid for the most part in WvW. The solo arena I enjoyed a lot though, can see myself doing that more.
(edited by Jayne.9251)
I understand your argument khayoss, and it’s valid, but for people like me who do some of the non-reward but vital jobs in WvW maps, this just makes those jobs even less appealing than they already were, and pretty much guarantees that if I go farm to get my gear, nobody else will do it either.
Well that depends on the zoom dear.
Oh it’s not silly. It’s a shopping list
Keep your hands off mah commanders!
I watched a guy hiding in the bushes today in solo queue match.
Didn’t move or fight just hid. Lol.
Ah you’re lovely! Thank you!
Don’t use the gate. Problem solved. Some angles trebs cannot hit.
Oh oh .. now now .. we were having a “normal” thread for a while there.
Good fighting all!
…and it was a Piken guy who started it again!
You need another hug, don’t you?
Richmond From Golden Horde, Period
I miss Rich
Citizens,
We have invited 1000 additional guilds to the public testing of Edge of the Mists. Please have your guild leaders check their email inboxes! If your guild didn’t make it in this round, don’t lose hope! We’ll be adding more guilds in the coming weeks.
For those of you already invited, we’ll be running two tests today:
9AM-11AM PST
5PM-9PM PSTThanks again everyone! We look forward to seeing you in Edge of the Mists.
So… Exactly what mechanic exists in the Edge of the Mists that you’re ignoring solo, unaffiliated WvW players in your testing?
I mean, if its not built with players like me in mind, I’d be happy to know in advance to never go there.
I’m a solo guild. I scout mostly. I got my invite yesterday.
We have today received an email that we are.
We are very excited about it.
we are now, according to the Mail, certain data of the players give out that are in the guild and want to join:
Player name, Accname, email and also the password.
If this e-mail then also right?
Because I never thought that Anet in e-mails asking for passwords
Mine didn’t ask for passwords … Hrm.
Yeah some folks did. I didn’t mind so much. It at least gave your immediate opponents a population similarity rather than the big steamroll. Though in some cases you’d get that, too.
Oh oh .. now now .. we were having a “normal” thread for a while there.
Good fighting all!
