It’s always extremely satisfying to knock people off of cliffs but my absolute favorite was when I was capping camps and ran into a 5 man group. I was on my engi and was dropping bombs behind me,tagging them, as I ran from them. I was traited for explosive decent so I jumped off of a cliff to escape and watched all but one of them suicide from jumping after me. The last one was easy pickings.

Yes, even during off hours in the lower tiers.
1 thing about roaming is knowing when and where to fight. Every class has a weakness, make them chase you until you are able to exploit their weakness and fight them then.
If you die to a condition engi you have been outplayed. Yeah they can load you up with conditions but they have almost nothing for condition removal, stability, or stun breaks. Plus most of their effective combos take several seconds to pull off because of the delay on bombs, or having to swap between kits.
It’s hard to beat a really good engi but it is never impossible.
Just had to drop about 19 gold after leveling a new character. This is absolutely ridiculous. If this thread doesn’t get a reply I will never spend another dime in the gem store.
If you are looking for solo roaming come down to the lower tiers, there are tons of solo/2-3 man groups.
T1 blobs can also melt gates with basic attacks, making it significantly harder to defend.
Oh man that sounds like so much fun!! Forgive me I was wrong, being able to auto attack a door sounds way better than the smaller scale fighting we get on our servers. Clearly bigger blob = more skill….
i said it once, when we were stuck in glicko hell a year ago, and i’ll GLADLY say it again: transferring away from a “problem server” WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM… it will only make it worse. all of us who choose to stay on a T8 server would appreciate if people would stop flippantly saying “just transfer”.
Merging the “problem servers” will not fix the problem, it will just ruin things for those of us that enjoy the smaller scale skirmishes.
There have been countless threads discussing the actual problems in WvW such as blobbing, downed state, low AoE limit, hard rezzing, PvD’ing, PPT system, no new maps after 2 years, etc.
Maybe if they fixed some of these problems instead of flat out ignoring WvW the population might actually start growing.
I like having room to fight without bumping into a zerg every few feet. These maps are entirely too small to have a hundred people per server on them.
And which one of you is chocalatebunny or whatever your name is? How bored must you be in your blobfest to be whispering me in game? I wanted to sneak in an hour of play in the middle of the day and I was actively fighting while you were droning on about how dead my server is.
It’s ironic that you felt the need to follow me into the game to call me “kitten” and tell me how boring T8 must be while I had to end up putting you on ignore because I was too busy fighting in WvW.
Why not come to t1 for a week or 2.
Wait… so you are saying that I could just transfer if I stop enjoying WvW on my server!!?
Well kitten I think you just stumbled on to the solution we were looking for, maybe now you can drop this ridiculous debate.
Idk where you got the idea of the 5-10man groups taking your camps… Me and a friend were the only ones that didn’t got involved on that SMC mess.
Also you had to KAOS/WAR group constantly harassing our camps with 6-8 people, so how our “5-10man group flipping camps” didn’t dealt with them (All times KAOS got killed was by either Svrn or EoH)? Problably because this said group do not exist.
No it’s because those 5-10 man groups were getting wiped by half their number. I was seeing a lot of random guild tags that I’m assuming were PvE players because they were going down so easy. My guess is now that the god awful season is over, and because they haven’t added any new living world garbage, we are seeing some more people checking out WvW.
From what you are saying it sounds like you field your biggest groups the same time we do. So how would merging us help? We would just have a bigger blob at peak times… hooray.. sounds fun..
If you people really want to advocate a merge maybe you should be asking for euro servers to be merged with ours. At least then the coverage would be spread out. Although I am sure they would likely feel the same way about merging that most of us in the lower tiers do.
Bump, waiting for an answer
I just logged off and the bottom 3 servers are fielding tons of people right now. I tried to get a good shot of ET’s zerg but I wasn’t able to catch them all. This is about a 3rd of their group.
On top of that they had 5-10 man roaming groups attacking our camps and our bl was being attacked by another group. Not exactly tumbleweeds.
There’s the difference between tier 1 and tier whatever EBay is now… you think popping multiple swords is tricky. It’s only tricky against servers that have nobody playing.
It’s weird but, servers that field actual people leave scouts/siege in their towers and communicate with the commanders on the map or on mumble/TS., you know, like WvW is supposed to be. A couple tappers doesn’t fool anyone when there’s people on the map defending and scouting.
Maybe popping a few white swords tricks NPC’s?
Play at your level means fighting against empty maps. And there’s the scorn and contempt, made much more naked, of people playing in conditions you imagine and then paper over what we’re saying.
You know why white swords work? Because white swords sometimes mean a force of 20 are taking something. I don’t think popping white swords is tricky, I think it puts pressure on people with certain resources to respond in certain ways. And it does.
Tell me again why it’s better to only run cpu-hogging groups to take things, and why that’s so much better?
We actually recently had some of our long-departed people come back to us from… Tarnished Coast. They confirm the 24/7 blobfest that none of us here want. That roaming isn’t a reality, that there’s no room to play your way.
I’m glad that you find your own experience there is satisfying, as is the experience of the people who stay there I suppose. I’ll also assume that you’re not jealous of us who aren’t locked into a single way of playing WvW.
But we so don’t want to be you. Stay where you are and play the game your way. If we get so bored in our empty maps that we wet ourselves when we see a red server tag fleeing in the distance, we’ll transfer. And when you get tired of zerging along and want to make a difference, there’s lower population servers waiting for you.
We saw how you tried to impose your “how it should be played” ideals on Blackgate during the tournament. You’ll forgive us if we don’t want your gentle touch and understanding applied to our non-problem.
Honestly, how long do you think it’ll be before the population withers to the point where WvW isn’t really sustainable in the lower tiers? Do you think it needs to get to that point before changes are made? It’s probably already at that point outside of NA time. Even then, are lower tiers even filling more than 1 map out of 4 during your busiest time of day?
It’s a given that there’s more PvE players in this game than Wvw’ers… yet Anet found it necessary to merge the PvE maps into that mega server thing. Do you honestly think there’s enough Wvw’ers to warrant 24 servers, regardless of how you enjoy playing?
Maybe it would have a healthier population if they fixed some of the gaping flaws in the system. Merging servers is treating a symptom instead of the disease, and at the same time it will kitten off a big chunk of the people playing on those servers.
Rimmy gets it. Not all of us are in it for the laughable rewards that karma training gets you.
You know what? If they ever fix some of the real problems in WvW that makes zerg warfare so ridiculous, like downed state and hard ressing, I wouldn’t have a problem with a merge. Until they do that I will continue to enjoy playing the game the way I like to play it and you’re free to do the same.
A day in the life of a top tier player…
Home Borderland is full. Would you like to go to Edge of the Mists?
No.
Enemy One Borderland is full. Would you like to go to Edge of the Mists?
No.
Enemy Two Borderlands is full. Would you like to go to Edge of the Mists?
No.
Eternal Battlegrounds is full. Would you like to go to Edge of the Mists?
Yes.
SEGMENTATION FAULT: Kernel dumped. Rebooting…Thanks, I’ll stick with my tier 8.
This hasn’t been even remotely true for more than a year, with the exception of a few weeks in season 1. I don’t understand why people who have never been in tier 1 it talk about how tier 1 works with absolutely zero experience playing in it. I don’t know if it’s trolling or just astounding ignorance.
Your statement can also be said to be the same for lower tiers. So people need to stop assuming things about servers and tiers that they haven’t played on or observed recently.
No, not really. Everything I say is true: lower tiers have less people, less coverage, less even matchups, less guilds, less roamers, less everything than higher tier servers. It’s not an opinion, it’s a number.
It has more solo roamers and small scale skirmishes which is a big part of the reason many people play there. Congratulations on having higher numbers, have fun in the blob.
(edited by Jim Hunter.6821)
” No offence, but 2-manning a tower/keep is hardly pvp or WvW. It’s PvE. You’re not playing against anyone. By saying you enjoy it, just means you no interest in playing large-scale pvp. So… one guy on the ram, one guy kills guard respawns? Invigorating. ”
You are missing the point. A couple of us can flip half a servers map drawing their main force into their borderland and we can keep them busy for hours while our zerg takes over their corner of EB.
And it’s just as much fun taking a handful of people and defending when they try to do this in our bl. We aren’t spending the day pvd’ing, we are spending hours getting into fantastic small scale skirmishes without the karma train interfering.
I think WvW would be incredibly boring with a zerg on every map. The people that do enjoy that have the option to transfer to T1, there is no reason to impose that garbage on the rest of us.
Reverence claims only 50 BG players are on during oceanic. How does he even know that? Do all guilds run tagged? Do all havoc squads report their numbers? I have a feeling be means to say 50+ players in eb and home bl or something… but bg/jq/tc are constantly capping each other’s bls in oceanic/sea. As I look at gw2score right now, I see TC recently retook 2 keeps in their bl from BG, JQ owns 2 keeps in BG BL, and BG owns 1 keep in JQ BL. And BG only has 50 people on in total right now? Don’t buy it. Don’t buy it at all.
This is the other big difference – organisation.
At the time of my last post, we had a main zerg of around 25-30 and two 5 man groups. Give an upper estimation of those not in teamspeak, and you get 50. Tagged or untagged doensn’t matter. We know they’re there. An undefended keep can be taken by 3 people (least amount of people I’ve successfully done it with). How many things get flipped really isn’t an indication of numbers on a borderland.
Lol you need to come to low tier. 2 manning a keep is easy if both players are competent.
Anyways, okay, fine. That’s a side topic regardless. You’re right, there is a big difference, organization. That’s why Darkhaven couldn’t survive against you in sea/oceanic, or even CD. We’re pugs, bad ones at that, we’d get rolled and quit almost immediately. However, if you REALLY only have 50 people on, we’re not far behind in player count (as I speak, 20 man main zerg, 1 havoc group of 6, multiple roamers, and bl defenders which I do not know the exact count of, but at least 5).
I’ve actually soloed several keeps. I just usually wait until our zerg is attacking hills or bay to keep everyone distracted. Although it is fun to take them without the distraction as long as they don’t have waypoints built in hills or bay, I usually get to kill 1 or 2 people at a time that come running to defend.
If I wanted to blob I would transfer, I like roaming solo or in a small group and killing other roamers. I like taking an enemy keep or camp, sieging it up and farming people.
I couldn’t care less about PPT or crappy rewards. I’m on AR and we come for the fight.
not seeing anything about it in the patch notes… still waiting for a response
curious why you have 2 handed training when you are not using a great sword, and survival of the fittest for 1 survival skill. You could get a lot more condition removal by moving those trait points and going with something like empathic bond.
bump for a response
I’m just going to keep bumping this until we get a response.
Back to the first page.
Still waiting on a response.
looks fun but I think you are going to have a hard time with conditions
Level the playing field, buff Outmanned. Make it double the duration on Righteous Indignation for Outmanned Supervisors and Make Outmanned keeps and camps loose supply when captured. This should slow down larger zergs and promote small group play. Increase difficulty/level of all outmanned NPC’s to make their caravans more likely to get somewhere.
^^^ This, and remove downed state/hard ressing so that smaller, more skilled groups can take out larger groups.
You know people can accept bugs and they can accept changes, but flat out ignoring us when we are simply looking for some clarification tends to kitten people the kitten off. There are a lot of new games coming out right now, and it’s a lot easier to keep current customers by keeping them happy then to find new ones. Food for thought.
^^^ classic example of someone that doesn’t bother to read any of the posts I in the thread.
Still waiting for a response anet.
Hey Davey,
In regards to PvP runes it depends on your build. Are you spirit, Trap or something different?
Also worth noting that you might want to have a look at a 1h sword/warhorn for your PvE set, much higher damage than the GS, but it is a little trickier to get the hang of.
Hey Jebster
For PvP I was looking for runes/sigils for a trapper 1h sword + dagger build.
Why do you say that 1h sword + warhorn does more damage than a great sword? I’ve been using the greatsword from time to time and the damage seems pretty good, specially with the second skill and on crits.
Thanks
Because it does more damage.
I personally prefer using the great sword because of the block, daze, and swoop, but the 1 handed sword out dps’s it.
Get stacking sigils for your under water weapons. Problem solved, quit complaining about it.
send me a 100g so I can equip most of my characters
Back to the first page with you. Still waiting for a simple response.
If you want to play a lb ranger…then no. Lb just does not do enough damage to down a good player. Worse the amount of defense you give up to have a functioning Longbow is absolutely not worth the paltry damage. Pets fail at CC and the Longbow has no snares of its own so you wind up mostly fighting with your GS.
This might be true in spvp where you are fighting in an area the size of a closet, but longbow is pretty fantastic in WvW.
With all the buffs you can get from foods, guard leech, etc., the longbow becomes a nail driver and you can take down a lot of people without ever having to get in melee range.
I’ve said it before, I do believe that the cat will out dps a bird on the golems, even the moving golem because it’s not having to reposition itself to hit. This means they will hands down be better for pve, but maybe it’s the added attack range or just their animations but the birds have an easier time hitting players that are dodging and moving in unexpected ways.
1. Let me know if you’re able to cancel the swiftness of birds consistently as mentioned before. The swiftness skill alone drops bird dps well below that of cats. I suggest you read through what I’ve pointed out again and not going back to the discussion of golems until then.
2. The only test we have to do is how well the pet sticks to a moving target. Why? A dodge is a dodge, and will dodge a bird or a cat the same way.
It’s not the dodge, it’s how cats attack. They have to line themselves up before attacking. It’s very clunky and weird. A good amount of the time the cat will run past a player and line itself up and start attacking from behind.
You’re still avoiding the question of whether you can cancel the swiftness. Because most rangers run SoH. That alone bumps cat movement speed up and the animation for swiftness in birds is a big drop in dps, considering their attack speed is pretty slow.
What the hell are you talking about? I said in my very first post in this thread that I usually cancel the swiftness. I use nature’s voice so I don’t need the bird buffing itself. When I engage an enemy the bird starts buffing itself and I cancel that by sending it in with blinding slash. The bird goes straight to the enemy, it doesn’t wonder around looking for the best spot to hit a player.
Bump for a response
I had a necro rally 3 times earlier because his condition spamming tagged a bunch of mobs. It’s even worse trying to fight a couple thieves because you have to aoe the area to kill them and you could easily end up helping them rally because some stupid mob wondered into the area.
Remove the pve crap or the downed/rally crap.
But.. But… Achievement points.. Crappy reward chests… Why aren’t you guys excited!?
Best armour is healing signet, it makes you invincible.
This.
Just remember to apply face to keyboard and roll in a left to right motion and you should be fine.
I think the point trying to be made with the bird’s stickiness is that unlike the cat, the bird doesn’t reset it’s targeting, it just keeps attacking…so when a player dodges a cat, the cat has to reposition itself to attack. The bird just keeps swooping.
That is exactly what I have been trying to say.
With the build I run my pets are constantly buffed to +33% speed so it’s not a question of the birds swiftness. The bird just sticks to the target the same way a player does with the 1 handed sword.
I’ve said it before, I do believe that the cat will out dps a bird on the golems, even the moving golem because it’s not having to reposition itself to hit. That is a really good idea.
P.S. Slap on bloodlust on ur underwater weapon….so when u swap out the bloodlust weapon on ur land weapon it will still retain the stacks.
This has been fixed. In a kittenty way too, now you lose your bloodlust when going in to water even if you still have bloodlust equipped on your sword.
Yeah but still no official word on whether this was a stealth nerf or just a bug. You can keep your stacks by swimming on top of the water though
I’ve said it before, I do believe that the cat will out dps a bird on the golems, even the moving golem because it’s not having to reposition itself to hit. I’ll still argue that birds are better against other players. The reason the scores show them taking longer than cats is because they open a fight with a skill that provides a speed buff. Depending on the fight this might come in handy but I usually cancel it with f1 or f2 and have them attack immediately. Once they are on a player they stick to them like glue. The cats seem to have a harder time with players dodging and teleporting around.

download spotflux. I tried all their other “fixes” but this was the only thing that worked for me. just disable it when the download is finished so you can log in.
It’s not a bug, just working as intended. You could make a suggestion thread over in the Ranger sub-forum, if you so desire.
Good luck.
It’s been brought up countless times. I’m sure they’ll get around to it the same time they fix all the other problems with pets. I mean it’s only been two years, you guys need to be patient.
Yeah WvW and PvE not spvp, I have no idea if putting one on an underwater weapon even fixes the issue, you go test since gold is no object and get back to us
Oooooooh so you had no idea, that’s why you exaggerated. That makes sense now.
I tested on the cheapest stacking sigil, and one works, so don’t worry — you don’t have to exaggerate anymore. Oh wait a lot of people here have already tested it yet you ignored their posts, I guess you will ignore mine too, won’t you? Stop talking then.
I’m still waiting for an official response before buying bloodlust.
Nobody here is exaggerating. Stop trying so hard. I personally run several weapons sets through Legendarys and Ascended, We simply want answers from Anet before we drop a bunch of gold on Sigils that could be renderred useless, Or even swapped back to before patch with Anet saying it was infact a bug, because lets be honest. You don’t have a clue, and neither do I. Let’s wait and hear from Anet. Nobody wants to have wasted 20-100 gold, and then have Anet do a “take back”.
You don’t think Gotchaz was exaggerating by putting 2 bloodlust sigils on underwater weapon set? Do you do it too? Is this some kind of new trend or something?
First you said 15g, then 30g, then now 20-100g. To me that’s exaggerating, but I’m sure our standards of exaggeration are different.
Hmm.. I don’t see how the bloodlust sigil price goes up if you run several legendary and ascended underwater weapons. Could you explain it, please? Like I asked before, am I missing something?
Can’t tell if you’re trolling or truly don’t understand how math works. The sigils cost around 10g, if this isn’t a bug a player will need a minimum of 2 sigils per character if they want to run with stacks. Depending on how many characters a player has this can easily end up costing a hundred gold or more. It’s simple addition.
No, you will loose this fight. Even with berserker, scholars, and damage runes. Decent warrior will squash you every time. You need to get in his face and beat the snot out of him. But with berserker he with clobber you in seconds with swords. You’ll need a better build for this kind of warrior in tpvp, spvp or WvW.
What the hell are you talking about? I didn’t mention any builds or strategies or anything of the sort. A warrior using only a LB is not using warrior to a high potential. Do you disagree with that?
I am talking about ranger besting warrior in PvP with LB. Go to the PvP forum or warrior forum and post that rubbish. Anyone who plays PvP a little knows that is not true.
Maybe if you’re a bad ranger… If you’re running LB + GS you should be able to handle warriors, it won’t be an EASY fight, but it’s doable, even against good warriors. It’s even easier if you’re using RaO or have a signet build and have access to SotW or other stability.
And if you can’t keep the warrior off you long enough to get a few of your max range shots… you’re a bad ranger and need to learn how to use your skills.
If you are figthing against a good warrior he will never let you kite……
What do you mean “let you kite”? Just pay attention to his boons and knock him around when stability ends. Also make them fight on your terms, if you’re having trouble run to a spot where you can use the terrain to your advantage. I think one of my favorite things is positioning myself and knocking or fearing someone off the side of a cliff to die.
I just had 3 small thoughts for how to increase participation in WvW.
1) Merge Smaller Servers. Now that we have Mega servers in game, we don’t need so many servers, and if some smaller servers were merged, we might get a higher # of people in WvW.
2) Farming. Right now, EOTM is the premium farm land and drawing a lot of players (self included) out of WvW. What if there were some T6 mat nodes that appeared only in an enemy castle/keep/tower etc that were only active for a short amount of time after you took it over and than didn’t re spawn in that tower for your server for x amount of time.
3) Revive orbs or some sort of revive ability….. I hate going all the way across the map dying in a battle and trying to run across the map to join my zerg again while getting one shoted over and over by random roaming theifs/Mes. Nothing inspires a
“leave mists” rage quit faster than getting killed in 1 second after running across the entire map to find the fight in full exotic gear.Thoughts?
Dear God no.
If anything death should be more punishing and I could care less about mats and crafting. Downed state should be removed entirely and death should instantly send you back to a spawn point. Let us just buy ascended with badges, keep the crafting bullkitten in PvE.
Now if someone can come up with another theory about why they put this change in with the other balancing changes, I would be interested to read it.
Everyone understood the reason for changing it so when you unequip a weapon you lose your stacks. Losing stacks in the water didn’t happen at the same time. What seems more likely is that this is a bug and they are deciding on whether to bother fixing it or not. Why else wouldn’t they give us a simple yes or no if this was intended or not?
