Yes!! This game absolutely needs more things to encourage blobbing!
LGN
I’m pretty sure the only ones that are against having both options are the people on the open world side because they’re afraid they won’t be able to find a big enough zerg to spam 1 with.
If you spam 1 constantly you should know that you can activate auto-attack with ctrl-leftclick.
Don’t know how I missed this comment.
No Jim, that’s not true. I can beat instances, and I can raid. I do just fine in dungeons and fractals.
But I didn’t buy this game to play instances. I’ve always wanted an MMO that was more about the open world.
And if you think you can just spam 1 in open world fights and win, I invite you to try the new jungle wurm encounter.
Yes there is plenty of content where spamming 1 does work. There’s also some content where it doesn’t.
Yeah but that isn’t stopping people from doing it. This is why I want the option of an instanced version where I can play with friends instead of wasting time waiting around only to fail because a bunch of people aren’t really contributing.
It’s just like every other zerg you find in the game, there might be a few people trying to organize the group and actually support each other, but the majority are there for the loot and/or to level characters. Most of them might as well be bots for all that they contribute.
I have no problem helping under leveled characters through content when I know they are actively trying to participate and do their best but these events breed leechers that do nothing but take up space on the server.

Absolutely not.
A.) We have swiftness. Not only that, but we have incredibly readily accessible swiftness.
B.) Going along with swiftness, we have maps that are “small”, meaning we can get from point A to point B without waypoints in less than 5 minutes. A second if you use a waypoint. Mounts are necessary for games like WoW where there are no waypoints, so you HAVE to walk.
C.) Towns being cluttered with MORE things just sounds terrible, both aesthetically as well as technologically.
D.) We have tonics already that can do anything you want via minigames already. Think of beetleracing in GW1. Why would we ever need to actually ride an animal to race? It is conceptually a waste of time.I do not see the point of it.
There doesn’t have to be a point to it. It could just be a fun addition to the game. It opens up a ton of options to get people replaying content in the world.
Give the common ones a 33% speed buff and the elite ones a 40% speed buff and it would give people something to work for. Setup something like the pet management tab so completionists will spend time gathering all of them.
The only semi-valid concern you have is they would clutter the cities (although I doubt anet cares about that when you look at events like wintersday) they could easily make them only work in the open world.
LGN
If they added mounts that you acquired through going out and playing the game that would be a nice change.
Add a small chance for gaining a rare mount from clearing a dungeon, more common mounts that can be acquired through completing a quest chain from start to finish, let people craft motorcycle type mounts and sell them (gives an actual benefit for maxing out crafting, but doesn’t force those of us that hate crafting to grind for it).
Give titles for obtaining a bunch of mounts, mini games for mounts, cosmetic effects like a pony trailing rainbows, rocket pack trailing fire, etc.
Anything that adds more fun and flavor to the game is a good thing, and honestly something this game desperately needs.
LGN
GW1 had identification kits. Maybe this is something that will be added in the future… probably to the gem store.

Right except that the living story brings people back to some open world maps at different points, which is what makes this game quite different from most others. We’re not all standing around on Orr, last time I checked. We’re in Bloodtide Coast and Lornar’s pass. Last month there were a whole lot of people running around Kessex.
The world is the playground here. It doesn’t matter if Fields of Ruin is dead today, it might be busy tomorrow.
You start instancing stuff and that could all go away.
It’s not bringing people back to the maps on my world. I’m on a low pop server that is being emptied because people are guesting over to other servers to sit and wait so that they can play with friends or at least with enough people to do the events.
If the events were instanced they could just queue up for it and play the game on their own servers while waiting.
Is your guesting key stuck? You can play on any server you want. Sometimes I guest to lower pop servers for a variety of reasons.
You can guest to max two different servers within 24 hours. And it’s not so easy to choose one. Because you can make a mistake by choosing either a server that’s abandoned (event is not being done) or a server that is overcrowded (you end-up in overflow).
Overflows on busy servers are often full and often get content done. Certainly that’’s true with the Marionette.
It’s still an unnecessary hassle, just to be placed in an instance with a bunch of random people, so that you can wait around for an event to start, instead of just being able to queue up and play with your friends.

So your solution to my world being emptied is for me to guest over to what is essentially an instance, in the hopes that I get into one that is populated and not just an empty overflow.
So basically if the stars align and everything works out I’ll get to sit around waiting for an event to start on a populated server while my own world remains empty. So new players that aren’t at level to do the events or have never heard of guesting are left in what looks like a completely dead game.
Excellent solution, thank you.

I’m pretty sure wonky camera control is one of their ways of making gw2 nee and different. I mean, isn’t it super exiting doing jumping puzzles with a camera that constantly zooms in so you can’t see what you’re doing?
LGN
My server has way less people on it because everyone is guesting over to a higher pop server to wait around for these events.
If they offered the choice of an instanced event people could spend their time enjoying the game instead of waiting in one zone.
I like to spend my time on WvW but if I want to participate in one of these events with any of my friends I have to guest over at least an hour before it starts instead of being able to do what I enjoy doing.
LGN
Even fractals was just grinding the same instance over and over and over as “progress”.
By having exclusive content, you set a challenge for players that makes them want to actively improve at the game and progress their characters, as opposed to joining the zerg train in overflow.
Um, raids are the same thing though. Grinding the same thing over and over again every week. Just with more people.
That said, I’m not against instanced content for guild groups. Guilds do need more things to do together. However, they should NOT remove open world events. Many of us really enjoy them and I think it’s rather selfish of some people to want to get rid of that content totally in favor of instanced only. Why not have both? (Not saying you are saying that specifically, but some people have.)
I don’t think anyone on the instanced side of the argument is asking for open world to be removed.
I’m pretty sure the only ones that are against having both options are the people on the open world side because they’re afraid they won’t be able to find a big enough zerg to spam 1 with.
LGN
They do work.
But still, I’d take half of your opinion as accurate.
Devs, give us more open raid content + closed raid content ( WoW-style ). It’d keep both groups satisfied and make this game’s end content truly outstanding. Hell, I’d prolly quit complaining myself, lol.
Yeah but I’d start complaining. lol
Haha, why would you?:P I mean, having both sides of the coin is not the worst of the ideas, especially if it would please those complaining atm and keep satisfied those that don’t complain atm.
I think it’s more complex than offering two types of content. I think that offering a lot of content, while great in theory, is bad in practice.
This is what happened in Guild Wars 1. Anet offered prophecies then came out with Factions. Everyone wanted to play factions when it came out and a whole lot of people went there…which left Prophecies a lot emptier. I mean, it was a year old, right? All the original people had played it to death. Six months later, we get Nightfall. Good thing Factions was a short game.
So now the playerbase was split among three games. It doesn’t matter that they were tied together. What matters was that people were having a harder and harder time trying to find people to do missions. Probably why Nightfall included heroes for the first time.
Now we already see “open world is dead” posts on these forums. So let’s say there’s giant open world content and also big guild content. You take those 40 players out of the world, well it’s only 40 players right? But it’s not. It’s all the guys who would raid and ignore the open world content all together. 40 × 5? 40x 100? and everyone one of those people would be out of the open world.
Anet wanted a game about the open world. That’s what it was always supposed to be about. If you go to their website now, it says “Enter a Living Breathing World” not enter an fun instance with a hard boss. It’s a different dynamic.
For years, MMOs have been focused on delivering end game content as instanced content. Even Rift, which has open world zone wide events and dynamic events ended up funneling you into dungeons and raids. Why? Because Scott Hartman the head guy over at Trion (at the time and now again) loves raids. He was like a raid guy. So he pushed raids.
And a lot of people walked away because we were sold an open world experience and that essentially ended.
Nothing that takes the bulk of the population out of the open world for any length of time is good for this game. Its’ why guild missions are in the open world too. They’re not instanced for a reason.
So other people can participate if they see something happening.
A living breathing world requires people in it. And yes, you’re not always going to have people in every zone, but the living story does bring zones to life for a while and then we all move to a new zone.
Look at what it did for Kessex Hills.
That has nothing to do with instanced vs. open world. That is just people flocking to play new content.
Using that logic I could complain that every other map in the open world is empty because all the pve players are sitting around waiting for these events to start. Any new content added is splitting the player base away from you if you don’t want to take part in it.
Your argument would be like me complaining that I want everyone to be helping me with an event in the plains of ashford but they’re all in lornars pass instead and it makes it harder for me to play.
LGN
So I was leveling an alt today and went through a zone into Lornar’s pass just in time to be killed by the fembot’s mega laser.
I’ve been through the event a few times so I knew what it was, but I can only imagine how frustrating it would be for a player that was new to the game to come into the map, nowhere near the event, and suddenly die without knowing why.
Players are already struggling to make this event instanced through guesting and overflows. All that is being accomplished by making this open world is creating a headache for people trying to play together, and ruining lower level areas for lower level characters that get rolled over by these mobs that shouldn’t be there.
For those that argue more people want open world raiding rather than instanced, how about anet provides the option of an instanced version and we see which one more players participate in. I know if I had the option to jump into an instanced version immediately with friends, or even pugs, I would pick the instance.
Remember that whole thing about “not having to wait around to have fun”… well waiting for 2 hours to see if my server will even have enough people to participate instead of just hopping in the lfg finder is a hell of a lot like waiting around to have fun.
LGN
I like scarlet and i like LS so if u dont like it go and play another game.I dont see what is problem to not play something u dont like, not like any1 force you.LS is something new and fresh in MMO games and they have my support in this.
Except this stuff keeps popping up in the world and getting in the way of doing other things.
It’s very annoying when you are trying to level a character and suddenly you’re being swarmed by these glowing toxic veterans that get a downed state.
It’s bad enough that I can’t WvW without the stupid message that, “Scarlet is attacking wherever” running across my screen, but for awhile we had to deal with those stupid toxic krait in WvW.
They should be putting this new content in instances. Let people start the story from the beginning and play through them at their own pace. This would create more endgame content and give large parties an organised fight instead of just zerging in the open world and trying to tag as many mobs as possible.
LGN
The story is blah, the implementation is worse. Having events that require coordination should be instanced so that they can be done properly. This would make it easier to tell the story, reduce lag, let people play when they have the time, wouldn’t have to worry about scaling, and it wouldn’t split up groups by sticking half of them in separate overflows.
LGN
I want to remove everything from the top-right corner of my screen. I don’t need a constant reminder that I need to kill Zhaitan or complete my dailies. It’s just unwanted screen clutter.
+1 I would love to be able to move and/or remove all the clutter on my screen.
LGN
I’ve been wanting this for awhile. It would be really great if changing a characters race came with a book that let you access personal story missions for that race and you could play the ones that interested you.
And who cares if people have skills from multiple races? They would still only be used when people are goofing off. I think the only time I would use them is to go from being a tiny Asura into a huge Norn form like a bear.
Plus more money to the gem store. Win win anet.
LGN
I hope I get to kill Scarlet and then listen to Trahearne in a cut scene showing him standing still as he spends half an hour talking about how great he is and how he killed Scarlet in his monotonous voice…
LGN
I don’t understand why anyone would argue against more paths to attain bis gear.
Even if you do enjoy spending hours zerging temples and then sitting at a crafting station, do you enjoy it so much that you’re against anet adding another option for those of us that can’t stomach that grind?
LGN
I don’t craft, I never have in any game period, having rammed down my throat just makes me look for my game play els where.
Agree 100%. I played gw1 since 2005 and I am trying really hard to enjoy gw2, but with this half kitten vertical progression and time gating making the game increasingly alt unfriendly I will likely be jumping ship as soon as one of these new mmo’s are released.
LGN
This would only be good if they bumped up the time on it or you would be trading one useless elite for another. Even then I would prefer something like the asuran elites instead; having a golem fighting alongside you fits a lot better with an engineer than shapeshifting.
LGN
I use the bomb kit fire field and a superior sigil of battle nad have no problem stacking might. With kit swapping the sigil easily keeps up 9 stacks on its own.
If you’re going condition you can also stack a lot of confusion with superior runes of perplexity, pistol main hand, bomb and tool kit.
LGN
I love my razer naga and I absolutely recommend it for any other game. The problem is that there its a year+ old thread in the tech support forum on people not being able to right click turn that anet is ignoring.
My naga didn’t work with gw2 for the better part of a year and started working again on the halloween update. This bug is happening with many different gaming mouses and only in gw2.
Make sure whatever you buy has a good return policy or isn’t too expensive because that thread grows larger with every update.
LGN
I Love the pull, block, and confusion, but the box of nails is so slow it feels like he is pulling the nails out one at a time to throw them. Same goes for the auto attack, first two hits are fine, but it’s like he gets distracted when it’s time for the third hit.
LGN
I run something very similar. I love rocket booting in front of people and dropping a glue bomb on them and then just laying into them, right before the glue wears off I drop a supply crate on their heads and it’s game over.
LGN
Sonic Screwdriver!
1 Allons-y – chain attack fire bolts that damage and inflict vulnerability on the first two attacks and extra damage and weakness on the third.
2 Wibbly Wobbly – Field that cripples and strips boons from foes in the area
3 Timey Wimey – Breaks stun, creates a quickness field (long cool down)
4 TARDIS – You teleport to targets location dropping down on them in a big blue box that stuns and damages them
5 The Oncoming Storm – Call in an aerial strike by a new version of Golems who look suspiciously like Daleks
Tool Belt Skill- Summon a Golem that looks suspiciously like a Cyber-man to fight alongside you
Ghost Buster Proton Pack
1 Proton Stream- 1200 range (1500 traited) Similar to flame thrower auto attack except this will be single target and you must never cross the streams!
2 PKE Meter- Creates an anti-stealth field that applies vulnerability
3 Proton Blast- An overcharged shot that deals extra damage and knocks the enemy down
4 Ghost Trap – Throw out the ghost trap and cause an AoE Pull and short immobilize
5 Slime Blower – Fire a glob of slime that cripples and torments
Tool Belt- Release ghosts from a ghost trap that fear and damage

The only way retaliation can kill you is if you are not paying attention.
You don’t even need to watch their boons closely, you just have to watch your own health bar. Is it going down? Then pop a heal (Ele has by far the best heal in the game). Heal on CD? Then swap water attunement. No heal and no water attunement, and your health is already so low that retal might down you? Then maybe you shouldn’t have dropped a massive AoE.
Retal can easily be managed as a full zerker Ele, let alone as a full soldiers/celestial Ele. The only way it can down you is if you don’t pay attention or make a seriously bad mistake.
Or if you’re an engineer that just tossed out a bunch of slow moving grenades. Unfortunately I have no way of stopping all the grenades that are still in the air after the first ones hit.
Even if I don’t die my only option at that point is to run away or stand there and die. Ret needs to be adjusted for WvW, it’s broken in its current state.
LGN
Dishing out near 50k from a couple attacks shouldn’t have a counter? Retaliation works because it is a soft counter to AoE spam. This game is already way too AoE heavy so lets not remove/reduce the very few things that counter it.
The counter to AoE is the fact I can only hit 5 people at a time and the big red circle on the ground. AoE skills are designed to break up huge blobs of people; Ret just makes it easier for the zerg to keep on zerging.
The only counter AoE really needs is for people to spread out, which would make the battles a lot more interesting.
LGN
I’d like to see that unfixed. Why ?
Simple, HoM pets were only meant to give you style changes. Since you arenow able to equip “the same pet” twice, it gives you a functional advantage normal users can’t do.
Have you tried using the ranger F2 skills? It’s really some huge advantage when the skills take about 3 or 4 seconds to activate. Half the time they go on cooldown without ever doing anything.
LGN
I “think” they fixed this for the other HoM pets, but as I don’t own GW1 and thus don’t have access to them I can’t really test it one way or another. The Wiki doesn’t list any of the cooldowns being shared except the Black Widow being shared with the Jungle Spider in PvP specifically. But it doesn’t say the Jellyfish share their cooldowns either, so wiki could just be missing that info.
Do you have the other pets you could test this out with? All of the HoM pets are “clones” of other pets (White Raven > Raven, Black Widow > Jungle Spider, Black Moa > White Moa) so it should be easy to test whether they all share cooldowns or whether its just the Jellyfish.
Checked it out. It is happening with all the HoM pets.
Thanks Tyler Chapman, glad to see someone is watching.
LGN
I know it’s next to impossible to get an official response on this forum but can I just get a “yes” or “no” on if this is intended?
LGN
I’m pretty sure that not letting us target what we are actually fighting and instead having us unintentionally agro everything else on the screen is the devs way of introducing new challenging content.
I mean people were complaining about how boring it is fighting big blobs of health for so long. Now we have the added fun of not being able to target the big blobs of health and drawing in more adds!

i would say from reading a lot of these issues are from people with razer mouse and for a incredibility over priced mouse they must have lousy build quality
How are you going to blame the mouse for something that is clearly a game issue? I use a razer naga and the problem started for me around the time they introduced fractals. Since that time I haven’t had the problem on any other game.
After roughly a year of checking in every couple of months to see if the game was playable it was finally fixed for me with the halloween patch. There was one other patch about 6 months ago that it worked but then the problem returned with the next update.
This is a game breaking issue that needs to be fixed. I can play right now but I’m worried that at any update I might lose that again.
LGN
So that means although I can equip two separate pets they share 1 skill? That would be like having my skills go on cooldown before I can use them because there is another ranger in my party using the same weapon.
LGN
I recently came back to the game so I’m not sure if this is intended but if you use chilling whirl on one pet and then switch to the other the skill shares the skill cooldown. Hopefully this is a bug because it was frustrating to find that the time invested for the HoM rewards was negated by the fact that you can basically get the same pet without it.

Yup still having the problem. Guess I’ll try again next month. Sure would be great to hear if you guys are even working on the problem or not.
LGN
A few months ago I would have agreed with you but now…. A-Net talks a great game but their actions don’t reflect what they preach.
Just look at what you said about the breaking away from the “must get the shiny”, that was the message they conveyed but then they introduced FotM and stuck a new tier of BiS gear in it.
Hard to keep faith especially when they keep promising to be more open and when they actually answer questions all they say is we might or might not at some point in the future implement that…. maybe.
LGN
I can accept mistakes but I am about at my limit with the lack of communication. They have a pretty game breaking bug that has been affecting a lot of logitech and razer gaming mice and there is a 6 page, 3 month old thread where the only responses have been to submit a ticket. No word on if they are even working on the problem.
I enjoy playing this game but the past few days I have been spending my free time looking for something else to play because this game is broken for me and from the lack of feedback I can only assume it will stay that way.

Finally heard back from razor support and apparently they don’t even read what you send them because they started giving me troubleshooting instructions for a completely different problem and told my to download razor synapse and update my driver after I stated that was the first thing I tried.
Since this thread has been up for 3 months without any feedback it looks like we’re all kind of sol.
LGN
I don’t know if a lot of people remember but the first 6 months of GW1’s release was just a mess off imbalance with spirit spamming, chain lightning spike, smite, and all sorts of other stuff. Forums were all over the place with how imbalanced and messed up a game with so much potential had.
After 6 months though, game was in a sweet place and all the qq went bye-bye (well as much as you could expect for forums – IWAY qq never went away)
Complaints of spirit spamming in the first 6 months? Are you sure you remember that?
As for me, playing GW1 since 2005 and I am pretty disappointed with GW2. It’s not a bad game but it really is missing the depth GW1 had. It’s like falling in love with chess and then finding a game of pin ball called chess. Just because the name is the same and they are both fun in their own way it doesn’t make them similar.

Elite skill capturing… no. Rare weapon skin… myea but player would just take the skin they like and then stop. There’s no HoM or skin collection in GW2.
Not if they could be sold on the trading post. People spent years farming VS, silverwings and froggy’s in GW1 even though they had acquired them.
By the way, +1 on the great idea.

Same issue here with a razer naga. Happened during one of the beta weekends and came back with a vengeance at the start of the wintersday patch.
I’ve given up trying to pvp or WvW, dungeons are becoming too frustrating as well. If this doesn’t get fixed I’m pretty much out of stuff to do in this game.
