That should be the case if you have more than… 5 or so people. You shouldn’t punish solo roamers flipping camps, towers, and fighting people in between. They have already broken away from the zerg.
Really they just need to institute diminishing returns for the amount of people near you when you take an objective. If you capture a keep with 5 or less people you should have a much better chance of getting a exotic or ascended than if you have 50 people.
Let the zergs only get blue garbage and see how fast they split up.

However, I think you have already answered the core question you’re posing. Namely, how to reward the solo roamers. If the solo roamer has already broken away from the zerg, they aren’t all that interested in the personal rewards to begin with. Otherwise, they’d stay with the zerg to reap the fat lootz.
On the contrary, such players are playing to the objectives of the WvW game mode; denying supply to an enemy, attempting to gain territory to increase their server’s PPT, etc. I’d hazard a guess that the personal rewards are a distant and secondary consideration. That’s certainly the case for me when I solo roam and flip camps; I’m not doing it for the personal rewards, I’m doing it to help my server.
Also, by implementing my suggestion of substantially increasing the amount of personal rewards obtained from defeating real players, the solo roamer has the potential to make up any losses incurred from no longer being rewarded for capping undefended camps.
So rather than continue with a system that can reward a solo player but which then massively rewards a zerg for the same action, let’s think of ways the solo roamer can still be rewarded while denying the zerg an equal reward for every member of that zerg.
I do like your diminishing returns suggestion and have made similar suggestions in the past; such as dividing the coin reward from a capture by the number of players participating in that capture. Decreasing the rarity of reward items based on the number of players – as you suggest – is another form of disincentive to zergs.
Regardless of what method is settled on, the current system of low risk = high reward is broken.
I definitely don’t do it for the rewards (or lack of). It would just be nice to come out a little bit ahead. After paying for buffs, siege, and upgrades to structures I am lucky to break even in WvW.

Yeah unfortunately with account bound xp this could be abused too easily. However they could sell leveling scrolls or something with them so you could level an alt faster.

My guilds response to all the comments about there being no activity on the borderlands. We’ve been holding their hills for about 14 hours straight. Bay and garrison have been fought over and flipped by all 3 servers about a dozen times.
Good, steady fighting all day long. The same goes for every other map. All in all a great showing from our opposition.

Well the few hours I got to play earlier were a blast. We stole Ebay’s hills and some of their other camps and towers and were holding and upgrading for a couple hours.

I think he is just frustrated, like YB, IoJ, and SBI are when we face FA right now. During the afternoon, it will really be 80-100 vs 30-40. We get ran off the map. It is what it is. The difference between T1 and T3 right now, is that TC, JQ, and BG are at a relative strength to each other, and FA has received so many transfers since the league has ended that they are a legitament t2 server.
We get the same thing when we go against GoM. It just makes it that much more satisfying when we take out 3 times our numbers in a fight. Will we ever beat them in PPT? Of course not, but we also never have to look for a fight.
I think it’s just a different mentality.

PPT only rears its head once in a blue moon outside of seasons and even during this last season T1 was so averse to full on ppt that 2 servers teamed up on the 3rd because they knew playing it meant fighting every stupidly annoying aspect of ppt play for 2 months and wanted nothing to do with it, so they removed that server and condensed it down to a single week of ppt which only ended up being about half a week anyway.
So you’re saying you teamed up on a server because you didn’t care about PPT? How is ignoring an entire servers worth of people to fight “looking for 24/7 fights”?
My server is constantly outmanned and we have had other servers propose an alliance against the 3rd server. We just laugh at them and go on killing everyone we see. We might lose in PPT but we dominate the majority of our fights and have fun doing it.
Because it wasn’t going to be 24/7 fights. When the 3rd server was successfully removed from the equation each week the other two went and just had fights the rest of the week pretty much.
Or you could have ignored the PPT all together and just had fun fighting…. Like we do…. all the time.

If you want a “solution.” It shouldn’t be merging all the servers into super servers. Just lower the population cap down to 35-50. This gives servers with a lower population the ability to Que all the maps constantly, and fight servers with 5x the WvW population.
This is a much better idea. These maps are too small for more than 50 per side.

and raising the AoE limit
Also remove the downed state, death= sent back to spawn
This paired with free transfers to the lower servers would go a long way towards fixing the population imbalance.

We need the people. People from lower tiers might claim to love their small roaming servers but in actuallity most dont enjoy it and they should help because as of now this is boring. Force them to play with us.
Since the top tiers are full of band wagon server jumpers anyway and the bottom tiers are communities of people that have likely been playing on their servers since release, the better solution is to disband the tier 1 servers and let them migrate to different servers.
We do enjoy our roaming servers, if we didn’t we would transfer. If I was forced into your no skill blobfest I would quit the game.
JQ has had guilds since the start of WvW, most wins in t1, etc. Also some people such as Cloud Fly like to have his own or small guild, but lead almost every day in EB and has been on JQ since forever. Thats not really bandwagon. BG has had lots of core guilds too. SoR/TC has had a large number of the same guilds stay. So basically alot of guilds stay loyal in community, and some dont. Sounds quite normal and pretty irrelevant.
Blobfest? Have you read any of the posts and/or screens? We are outmanned 3/4 maps, and the 1 map we have 20 people on pin. You easily could roam or fight with a 20 person group or not roll with a main commander and havoc.
Either you still believe things posted 1 year ago or your intentionally trying to sabatoge the thread. Im asking for balance, not to fill up map queues for 80v80 Fights. If things were balanced, it could be broken into 1 havoc of 20, etc. Fully fitting your requirement of not blobbing.
Sounds like you are fielding less players than we are in the bottom tiers. Maybe you should transfer. Leave us out of your bad ideas.

Well since I received an infraction for bumping this thread can I assume that you at least glanced at it? Care to comment on the subject? I’ve seen similar threads pop up across several of the subforums, people would like to know if this is an intended change or just a bug like it appears to be.

Don’t care much for this personally, but if it is implemented it would only be allowable with lvl 80 characters that have completed their Personal Story since there’s no way of determining what branch you’re supposed to be following.
But by then, what the heck is the point of switching races?

I’m just curious, it seems ‘wrong’ somehow to stack ooc and then enter combat. (I do it on my ele..it just doesn’t seem entirely intended.)
I’ve never bothered stacking between water though, as water is something I generally avoid xD

I picked 2 ascended trinkets and 3 infusions, because I dislike doing PvE and guild missions equally.
This is what I’m leaning towards and for the same reasons. It’s ridiculous that the tournament prize didn’t offer ascended weapons.

I thought rangers were already thief hunters. 3-4 auto attacks with the bow and then rapid fire to finish them off. This downs 90% of the thieves I’ve run into. If that doesn’t work GS is nice for dealing with them as well, the block and daze are fantastic for control and the cleave is great for shadow refuge.
The only problem I have is 2-3 thieves running together and stealth reviving each other, but that’s only a problem because the downed state is the most stupid thing they could have possibly included in WvW

You should take the entire skirmishing line and move it down to nature magic. Sharpened edges is pretty weak in a power build, your not even using an axe anymore so honed axes is a waste, and since most of the damage on longbow comes from the auto attack having a slightly reduced cool down on the skills isn’t worth investing 6 points for.
Plus with your utilities your build is just begging for survival of the fittest to deal.

They should make all pets attack stealth, it needs a counter anyway.

I started using the marsh drake with my power build. The poison really helps when fighting regen builds and the drake will blast your healing spring for you. The drake is also great for tanking camps. Send him to attack a scout and use longbow 3 so all the npc’s will ball up on your drake, then you can barrage and swoop in with the great sword to finish everything off.
The only other thing is signet of renewal in place of QZ. If you are looking for more survivability then having an extra condition dump will go a long way while roaming.

I transferred sometime shortly after the first tournament and haven’t gotten jack all. Am I allowed to QQ or should I, and other’s in my situation, be thrown into the same lot as those QQ-ing after transferring during the second tourny?
You think because you transferred to a stacked server earlier that makes you special in some way and more deserving of a reward than the people in the bottom server that fought just as hard if not harder?
I fought against ET and they worked their kitten off. WvW rankings is all about coverage, don’t think you are special because you are in a higher server.

Just want to add in general, posts like this don’t really help Anet determine that something is bugged. Need video and date/time otherwise this is a needle in a haystack.
Not a bug, just a skill that needs to be adjusted. Even if you do catch people in it they constantly escape without destroying the vines. I’ve seen people dodge roll out of it.
They should change it to a pulsing attack, which would also help get around the ridiculous aoe limit. Rangers could use a little love.

You want chill use a snow owl. You can chill twice as often and have a pet that will actually do damage. And using a wolf or hound to control your enemies and prevent skills from hitting in the first place is a lot better than the unreliable condition removal a bear gives.
Honestly the only benefit the bears might add is that your opponents might be so busy laughing at you that you can get away.

Yes my ranger pet screws up about half the time, you didn’t discover anything new here, pets have been broken since the beginning. No my downed skill doesn’t knock anyone down, because that’s not what the ranger downed skill does, it dazes people.

I use entangle every day when I’m roaming. It works fine as long as you use it at the right time. What’s really fun is snaring people on top of walls with it so they can’t escape.
Don’t worry though, I’m sure your strategy of running into melee range as a bearbow will make up for the times that you waste entangle.

With the condition meta right now necros make great roamers. They can shrug off conditions like they are nothing, can flip camps incredibly fast, and between marks and plagueform they eat roaming thieves alive. The only downside is they don’t have any really good way to disengage except fear spamming the enemy away until you can fight your way into a camp or tower.

This happens all the time in WvW.
The best poor man fix is to keep a siege blueprint in your inventory. Equip it then stow it. No need to build or take falling damage or anything.
This has fixed it for me 90% of the time, occasionally it won’t go away until you log out.
