I’m totally with you on this. I hate those pocket dinosaurs. You can’t hardly outrun them, either. They seem to be everywhere in Auric Basin.

1) Learn to dodge when they attack
2) Avoid them
3) Kill them

You’re not supposed to outrun them or tank them.
It’s what make them a threat. They’re not decorations.

You can easily use up your 2 dodges and still die, depending on the number on you at the time. Avoiding them is not always possible in some of the narrower passageways. Really, the easiest way for me to deal with them is to AOE them down.

Full on attack them.. They have like 2 hp each. Heal when your hp hits Hal or you will die, and do aoes. You sound like that person in the scary movies that just runs instead of punching the villain.

Haven’t played since Beta, have you? They HAD like 2 HP, they have quite a bit more today. Surviving a well + 2 damage marks from a full zerker power-necro …

Nah, they’re still dead easy to kill provided you stop to engage and don’t wait until you are at 10% health.

I’ve really enjoyed playing on Verdant Brink. Between that and Halloween, I haven’t had any time for PvP or WvW. Once things settle down, I’ll resume those forms of play.

Halloween?! Camping , as I am, in Maguuma and mostly diving into WvW for services, I’ve barely noticed it’s happening!

HoT is a boring grind fest without loot.

Since they destroyed WvW at the same time HoT was released, GW2 has become a sad joke.

Probably not the right thread for this discussion but as someone who was almost 100% WvW for 2 years I’m busy doing other stuff right now as are most of my friends. I don’t think WvW is dead I just think it’s an endgame “on hold” because, right now, very few of us are at endgame! With elites and masteries we are all back to noobs and working our way up. When we are at endgame again I will be very much back in WvW.

On the changes to WvW themselves, in principle I love the new maps. They need learning, for sure, and they are very different in how they need to be played, but I suspect they will be awesome. The one thing I think Anet did wrong, in glorious hindsight, was to release the new WvW at the same time as HoT. Maybe it should have followed in 3 months, when the players are back and seeking a new challenge?

Personally the new maps, game mechanics, the new elites and the new class have made me love relearning what it is to be a guard, ranger(yeah, I know!)/druid, my old L80s, and getting to grips with the revenant. They’ve injected whole new life into all the classes.

The last thing I wanted was to romp through the new content on autopilot, using all my old gear and rotations. IMO changing all this up is one of the best things about HoT.

Another dedicated WvWr and I love this new map. Sure, it will need balance tweaks, but it’s made so you have to think, not just roll over with a 60+ man blob. It has structures that are defensible. Sure some wish that all siege and structures would vanish and we would have just a big empty field for 2×60 to squirm around for hours spamming skills, but they do not speak for all, or even the majority of players. Bring it on!

Seen many of these bugs. The horrid lag has made WvW impossible and the “voices in my head” (random skill chatter) is driving me mad!

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is I have lost my cursor 3 times since the patch (Goes completely invisible. No way to see where you are clicking.) Needed to restart GW2 to get it back, which is clearly a problem with WvW T1 queues!

I like this. The thing is though we already have everything in place for it- it’s the projected change in rating. If the visible score online and the (hopefully improved) rewards for the week reflected who was doing best relative to their current rating any server could play any other and still “go for the win”. of course, in reality it still would not be much fun for anyone being in a T1 vs T9 matchup, but it would sure make current matchups more edgy and allow any team to go for the win and the rewards.

Ps. Please DON’T do away with ppt and move to points almost exclusively for flipping stuff. That will turn WvW into a karma train/farm fest overnight – why upgrade if you want the points for flipping and re-flipping stuff! I realise there are those who would prefer we got rid of all siege and even all walls and gates in favour of exclusively open field fights. I don’t have problem with a new game mode like that, but its not WvW.

who would win in a Seafarer’s-Eredon/Blackgate-Vabbi matchup?!

I don’t know who will win, but will it be an interesting match?
In EU-prime (NA-Day) Seafarer’s-Eredon will dominate the maps 4:1, 400 bored Seafahrer will crush 80 Blackgates+30 Vabbi and tick 595:100
In NA-prime (EU-Night) Blackgate-Vabbi will dominate the maps 4:1, 400 bored Blackgates will crush 80 SFR + 30 ETs will tick 595:100
EU-Day/NA-Night/OCX-prime will probably decide the match, I don’t know who is stronger OCX at Blackgate or Day at SFR.

I think matches are only interesting if the opponents have a similar 24h manpower profile, and not if they just have their peaks at different times, i.e. if they just crush each other at different times.

Ofc, this wouldn’t be the only matchup. SFR would still have equivalent match up to now, like Deso-Sorrows, just with better off peak coverage.

It would inject some unpredictability and give all servers a chance to compete. The hours of overlap could be interesting. I also think you underestimate the effect combining peak hours T8 and off-peak T1, especially with population movements, but accept that’s unproven! Eredon might be an interesting home for some top tier NA guilds, tired of queues, interested in allying with SFR, for example. Having played from T8 to T1 and most points between I can say the biggest obstacle to guilds hanging around at the lower tiers is, although they can transform peak times for lower servers, all that work is undone off-peak due to coverage.

Even if we think this is too risky and/or expensive to commit to permanently, it might make for really interesting and different Spring Tournament!

Sorry if this has already been discussed but I didn’t see it on the first or last page so thought I’d go for it!

Elsewhere we have discussed server “alliances” between NA and EU: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Is-it-about-time-for-a-few-Server-WvW-merges/first#post3708496

I can’t see any reason in this day and age why, with a modest investment, we could not have NA and EU servers all in the same competition. Plenty of NA players play in EU already and visa-versa.

If we joined the top NA team with the bottom EU, 2nd with 2nd from bottom etc (a little merger work on the lowest tiers of EU to equal the server numbers) we would improve coverage 24×7 (the main problem for lower tiers) without hugely impacting prime-time queues. It would also give the whole competition a much needed shake up – who would win in a Seafarer’s-Eredon/Blackgate-Vabbi matchup?! Would they beat Janthir-Gunners??

Alliances could also “shift” (infrequently) over time, to allow some degree of balance by ANet.

Put the character’s name on it.

If you see X’s Trebuchet Build Site when everyone’s putting down Flame Rams, you’ll know exactly who’s responsible.

Have a report function specifically for this issue, get X reports in Y amount of time, and you get a cooldown period where you can’t deploy siege. You can still build and operate siege normally. You just can’t deploy it.

This seems by far the easiest and best solution. Simply show the name of who threw the siege next to each item and allow you to report by clicking on that name. There would, of course, be punishments for people that troll-report.

- Easy to see if it is commander thrown siege or troll siege

- if one person goes around throwing a lot of troll siege their name will quickly get known and reported, probably a lot!

- No need for constant GM policing – just the normal monitoring of reports from players

- If “the system” records the siege each person has dropped it would be easy for admins to check for “strange behaviour”.

That alone would probably be enough to dissuade all but the most determined.

The key is options. In a game with such a diverse player base, due mostly to the vast amount of both casual and hardcore content, there should be different ways to get items required for new crafting recipes. Just as you can get materials from both salvaging and gathering. Just like you can make some mats you have professions leveled for and buy the others on the auction house. Being able to buy the mists stone by other means other than the incredibly niche fractals would be great.

Exactly. I’d be OK if they added Dungeon tokens too, if that helps. Basically, requiring a certain amount of graft is fine, but don’t tell people what that graft has to be……unless it is directly related to the story.

If you see someone 1v1, let them 1v1……….

it’s not obvious at all. They may be a support build, rushing to an objective and get ganked by a thief. They may be happy with that and want a duel, but they may also want help to get on with their mission.

Personally, when it is not in an obvious duelling location (I.e. Mainly back of south camp) I would engage first but back off if asked. This is WvW, it’s a team game, by default you keep your allies alive and kill your enemies!

Yes, there is nothing mystical about the way this works. For each matchup the highest “rated” server is green, the 2nd blue, the 3rd red. It has always been this way.

During the tournament your “rating” for this purpose, was your points score or, if points were equal, your glicko rating. Now the tournament is over your rating is simply your glicko rating. Each week the glicko rating is randomised slightly to mix up the match ups and it is this randomised rating that is used to determine your color, so if you are close enough to your neighbours in rating that your relative position in each matchup changes, so will your color. If, for example, you are firmly rooted at the top or bottom of the table even after glicko has been randomised then you will always be green/red.

Seriously is awful how the population can vary from kitten T3… T3 cant fight T2 yet T2 cant fight T1 so they should only kitten only T2, and T3 only T3.

PS: it REALLY frustrating having to fight higher tier. You cant do anything. ANYTHING. They just overwhelm you. Plus, if they are evil little kitten they spawn camp with their zerg… And it happens way more than it should.

What makes WvW is the camaraderie, developed over months, between members of a server. If you want random, anonymous, match ups EOTM is there for you.

If the argument is that servers need more equally matched numbers and 24hr coverage, then they could implement “server alliances” between different time zones (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Is-it-about-time-for-a-few-Server-WvW-merges/first#post3708496). There is no reason, in this day and age, why a properly funded peering arrangement between Europe and America should add anything but truly negligible latency, so WvW game servers can be situated in either locale for all players. Already, without such investment, many players choose to play on servers in a different continent.

In “real” WvW, if you are on the same server you will always be on the same side. If you are on different servers you will always be on opposing sides, or in completely different match ups.

If you are on different servers but were on the same “side” this can only be because you were in Edge of the Mists. There, the side you are on is dictated by the color you are currently playing in real WvW. If you want to always be on the same side in WvW and EOTM the only answer is for you both the be resident on the same server.

If there is a commander tagged up with a decent following, TS or mumble will hurt you more than it’ll help. If your running small groups or tagless, then I can see it being needed.

The problem with large zergs sitting on TS means they all travel together in a nice little ball (usually). This makes them cannon fodder for a group of AoE back casters.

Sometimes the best way to fight is confuse your enemy, not be completely predictable and fight in a “welled up” group.

Sorry, that is a load of rubbish! If a blob performs better without voice comms it is only because the commander is useless!

If it is better to move in something other than a “welled up group” that is still easier to organise verbally than tying to type and command at the same time. And it is far, far easier for scouts to report, and for commanders to hear and act, via voice comms. Trying to type whilst manning an ac, or spot reports in map chat while commanding a battle, can only ever be inferior to the simple spoken word.

Different thought, raised before, for the same core “issue”. It is “strange” that GW2 zergs move more swiftly than smaller groups due to swiftness stacking. This is totally contrary to real-life, where bigger groups are logistically more difficult to move around , and is one (of many) things that encourage blobbing. Now I know GW2 is not real life and there are all kinds of things that work in WvW that wouldn’t work in real life, but this does encourage something we mostly say we hate. It would be interesting if instead of swiftness buffing we had swiftness debuffing, so small parties could move swiftly around a large moving blob. You could allow swiftness to stack up to the size of an average guild group – say 15?? – then start to debuff above that (in a certain radius?). Then a group of 10 could run around a large slow moving blob.

It might be a disaster, but it might be interesting to try it!

There are several aspects that would need to be reworked (sige itself) if ANet raised siege timers.

People said the same when they were 30 mins. 1hr has only made an improvement. I don’t think we have found the point yet where lengthening makes things worse.

As I understand it, there is a technological limit on deployed siege and they don’t seem to be able to distinguish between rams and defences. Personally, when we were asking for the 30 min timer to change, I suggested that siege inside keeps and towers have a longer timer and those in open field shorter (15 mins). It is very rare for attacking siege to be left alone that long and still be needed. That may help with keeping overall siege under control. I also agree superior siege should have a longer timer, although that would not stop someone having to run around every hour, sine it is unlikely all, or even most, siege will be superior.

T1 and EoTM, including many other tiers in certain weeks was/is already “two ships passing in the night” two zergs passing by each other in order to move to the next pvdoor; and nothing has been fixed.

If this is true, move to EU silver. No sign of that here. And no sign of it when i fought gold league servers on AG before season 2.

Too late…as for as I can tell most players stopped defending 6-12 months ago and not just on EoTM either.

Even with this tournament, its still mainly karma train on all maps.

Certainly not happening here. Fearsome fights for all key locations. We spent 2-3 hrs trying to get into a paper briar with 50ish defenders yesterday, while they spent the time trebling our t3 Bay! Our numbers were far fewer I hasten to add! And that was in the middle of the day.

Friday PM is about the only karma train time – once all is firmly settled – not sure we will even get that this week! It’s gonna be close!

I have never stated anywhere that I think I’m “leet.” Infact I don’t think I’m anything above average. Although you are right WvW is a team environment, what I’m saying is that people who need to call for help when they’re being attacked just so they can jump on your corpse are pathetic… As I’ve already said, you can’t blame me, or anyone else for being spec’d for 1v1’s anymore than I can blame you for not being spec’d for a 1v1. If you want to run from a fight go ahead… But why would you engage in the first place if you know you can’t, or may not even have a chance, to win? I don’t get it… It’s like being a feeble old man who decides he wants to stop a raging bull. Why get in it’s way and try to stop it just so you can run off and blame the bull for charging at you?

yeah, fair enough mate. I was not accusing you so much as the general tone of some of the posts here. I certainly don’t blame anyone for spec’ing for 1v1, as I said. But I do think saying it’s all about poor skills if someone loses to one who is is a bit rich! I think I gave one example, there are others, where someone who isn’t built to win a fight might still be brave or foolhardy enough to engage!

As for coming back with multiple people and still claiming you’ve won… Yeah if you want to play that way you’ve won the fight no doubt, but I can’t fathom how it must feel knowing that you need help to bring one person down. All that says is that you’re bad and instead of accepting a chance to get better you’ve brought people to fight your battle for you.

You clearly don’t understand the game mode you are in:

- WvW is a team game

- WvW, whether we like it or not, is LARGELY about organising bigger numbers in order to win. True, there are epic fights to be had where an organised group defeats a much larger blob, but with equal organisation, especially over the week, bigger numbers, well organised, win.

- to repeat myself, yet again, this is not 1v1 PVP. Many, many in WvW spec their builds for very different things than duelling. If you beat one of these guys as a zerker roamer you are fooling yourself if you think you are some 1v1 duelling god.

- to give but one example, if I duck out of a tower and hold off a pesky thief who I am self-aware enough to know I would NEVER kill, long enough to get a doly home, then dive back into my tower ready to scout/man siege, that is not cowardice. Dying and leaving the tower unprotected would be the shameful thing and letting the doly die would be cowardice.

- if a support guard (for example) holds that thief up long enough for others to come and “discourage” him from continuing to molest our dolys, again, good job done. No shame there.

So, PLEASE, think about the game when making these ridiculous comments. If you want to play others, spec’d equally well for 1v1, and glory in your victory if your superb skill wins out, choose a different game. WvW is not the place for you.

NB: I am not trashing the role of thieves in WvW. Harassing the supply lines (for example) is a good, honourable job. Just don’t take every victory as proof of your leet skills plz!

Wow at people in this thread desperately trying to justify their cowardice.
If you engage a 1v1 and then you run away, you’re a coward. Period. Fight and die like a man.
I recently had this warrior that saw me with like 30% hp left and decided to attack me, thinking I was an easy kill. After 30 seconds of battle I was back to full health, while he was dropped to like 20%, when he decided to flee. I /laughed so hard at him.

Ikr? How long does it really take you to get your stacks back… If you’re a zergling it can’t take you any longer than 5 minutes. I know because I participate in all roles of WvW, with roaming/scouting being my primary focus. If I die during a roaming encounter, I merge with the zerg for 5 minutes to get my stacks back and voila… Other than losing stacks what can possibly be the problem with losing a fight? Armor repairs cost nothing and failure is a great way to learn. Not only that, a lot can change in a fight even if you’re very low health. I’ve won fights with 10%< health many, many times that I otherwise (if I were even able to run, being that I roam as a Necro) wouldn’t have if I decided to flee. Turning your back and hauling kitten is literally the best way to get yourself killed unless you catch your opponent off guard with it. You’re better off either not engaging at all or staying until only one of you are standing.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with not engaging someone. If you’re scouting, trying to get back to your zerg, or something of that nature, you don’t need to fight. But initiating an attack or responding to an attack and running when things look bad is just an unwillingness to learn from your mistakes. Take every death as a way to improve yourself. If you’re not spec’d for 1v1’s, don’t blame your opponent for not knowing. Also, being in a fight where you are clearly at a disadvantage is a great way to get better. Because when you’re using a build that’s meant for small scale battles it’ll feel a whole lot easier.

Anyway, I agree Fhaeris… Read through a lot of these comments and it’s no wonder so many people run… God forbid their pixelized self dies and they have to make a 60 second journey across the map with absolutely no consequences from dying.

Just a thought, but maybe you are the guy defending or rushing to defend a tower. You die, siege is not manned, tower falls. There are reasons other than cowardice.

Duel or not I will never understand the cowardice of someone who runs from a 1v1.

You are either trolling or you have not read this thread. WvW is not 1v1 PvP. Different classes have different roles. Many are totally ill suited to duelling. A thief who thinks he is some leet warrior for taking down a heal guard is sadly misguided!

Running to save stacks and/or stay in place, e.g. to scout a tower, is not cowardice it is common sense. Senselessly dying, so you have to run back from spawn with weakened vitality and attack would be a dereliction of duty!

@OP: Why do you care so much? If someone runs away, they are obviously doing it because they are less talented than you. Enjoy the victory.

I don’t see EOTM as training for anything to do with WvW. If you want to train get in WvW. If you want to command, follow a good commander who will help you and command yourself off-peak.

So, for that reason I say take away ALL wXP from EOTM.

Yep, we’ve covered it. Unless a formal duel is agreed all is fine.

WvW is not balanced AT ALL and I’m not complaining about that. As a guard I am built for support and am certainly not up for 1v1 against several other classes, decently played. Expecting me to hang around to be stomped is also “not fair”!

From time to time, I have locations and dolys to defend, but also stacks to retain. So I’ll get into fight, sometimes for fun, sometimes in a serious attempt to defend an objective, and bail, unapologetically, if I need to. That assumes I’m close enough to safety and good enough with my blocks and dodges to escape that OP thief, ofc!

This bug affecting time-gated features has been addressed as of today’s hotfix. If you are being affected by it, you will need to log in to this build before the next reset of that time-gated feature. At the next reset for that time-gated feature it will reset properly.

Apologies if I am reading this wrong but it seems to say that people with stuck monthlies wont get a fix until next MONTH! Say it aint so, please!!

At one point yesterday: extractor tool cost: 21g 67s (converting to gems), most expensive rune (Exuberance): 10g 50s. The extractor is not a solution!

Hi, everyone. I’m here with an update.

Unfortunately, we were not able to integrate fixes for the bug affecting the stuck Daily Achievements today.

I understand that this is inconvenient, frustrating, and disappointing, particularly because a lot of you all play over the weekend and were probably looking to get some play time in and complete your dailies after the release of the Feature Patch. We apologize that this is affecting your game play experience.

We’re going to try and fix this at our next earliest opportunity, and that’s going to be early next week.

Hi. This only refers to stuck dailies. Are you also gown to fix stuck monthlies? I completed 5 achievements in the monthly list before the patch. I got a chest for doing 2 monthly achievements before the patch, but 5 achievements are still shown as done so I am unable to use those to get the achievement for the 2nd half of the month.

Personally I hope, it would be balanced by other changes which would make it harder for enemy forces to PvD in in the first place. But I guess we will have to wait and see. I agree a door treb nerf, without other balancing change would be a disaster!

MegaServers Inadvertantly Hurts WvW

I would like to see them add server chat so people could still coordinate things for WVW in PVE.

THAT is a really good idea. I don’t see any problems with identification due to megaserver technology. That feeling of identification with my server was build in WvW and not in PvE. All servers are the same in PvE, not regarding population, but WvW really gives you this community sense. Serverchat would be great for withdrawing new soldiers from PvE for your homeworld or organising events without the enemy knowing.

Once again. This game does not need to reward bad offense. If you can not kill the player you did not deserve the cap. It is as simple as that. Anet has already said as much. Complaining will not help.

Actually they’ve said just the opposite – that they definitely intend to look at bannering.

Personally I’m not convinced about a guild tag, not because I have any problem with it, but because, unless they rework the tag completely, to make it stand out more, we will still prefer to run with the raid leader targeted. Even when we run “open mic” we normally target the leader for clarity.

It might make it easier for late joiners to see where the guild is on the map, but other than that…

It’s been mentioned lots, but there is an easy way to set this up to work for anyone doing anything.

- Currently you can turn the pin On/Off but it is always public when it’s on.
- We need to be able to turn the pin On/Off but also Public/Private.

When the Pin is flagged /On and /Private only the people currently in the squad can see the Pin… it would be invisible to anyone else on the map. Now you can have a squad system to be used for Guild only, Alliance only, Guild with friends or whatever players want to do. Public pins can get an extra 30 people flock to you when doing stealthy havoc forces and defeat the purpose. Or the pin draws people away from the public commander who needs people with him.

To me that sounds like the most simple and flexible way to set up the C&S.

That’s not a bad idea, but I think you missed my point completely. Maybe my fault in not being clear, maybe my post above helps?

Well that’s entirely the point. The fact that targeting your leader works better than the actual pin itself is because the current system is so bad.

Your compensating for a failed system.

Yeah, that I agree with.

My point was though, without a rework of the tag itself the tag is only really useful to find people on the map, not for following in combat, so a guild-only tag would be very limited in its usefulness.

But, yes, this is only true because of the flaws in the current tag, not because guild tags are a bad idea.

The upgraded comm tag shouldn’t be bought for badges; No reason why someone who wishes to be a serious commander should have to save and spend all his badges to do it. It should be an upgrade to the basic badge, ideally necessary to even use in WvW, that comes with high wXP rank (400/500?). Will work well, post patch, when wXP is account bound. And yes, I know, any zergling can run around for months behind the commander and earn wXP, but few will stick with it that long, if that is all they do and, frankly, it’s the best indicator of experience we have!

“Lag” 1: frame rate drop when large zergs are nearby but often not visible. We actually use this as an “early warning sign” – surely not intended! This is almost certainly due to client side processing/GPU and/or internet speed. Whilst it probably affects all to some extent different people experience it very differently. For some it is simply a handy indicator that trouble may be ahead, with negligible gameplay impact, for others it seriously hinders their actions. Toning down settings could probably make most people’s systems OK, but, as it is nice to good visuals when you can, it would be nice if Anet could improve the auto adjustment of detail to suit the conditions.

“Lag” 2: Skill-lag and rubber-banding if, by that, you mean where the actual location of the player becomes desynced with the GW2 client. All but skill 1 will fail to fire completely for sometimes several seconds and often, at the same time, the character will move on screen according to the player’s command, but his real game position may not be moving at all. Almost always this happens in massive battles. SM is the worst. Frequently Teamspeak and map chat will be full of comments about “horrid skill lag” and many players will die as a consequence. This really does seem a server side problem and IMO is by far the most serious and in urgent need of addressing.
