In my honest opinion I found the toolkit to be a bit too “meh” to be worth a slot and prefer having the battering ram.

The toolbelt is almost as fast to recharge but also a huge amount of normal damage. It also gives an extra fast knockback.

Hmmm… Sure, you can swap the Tool Kit with a Gadget if the tool-belt skill launches at foes and releasing a SD. But then you need A KIT in order to gain Swiftness (With Speedy Kits). Speed is very important and that’s why toolkit remains a good choice in the SD build.

I’m sure the battering ram owns in WvW since you have two extra range attacks. Maybe your build has more differences? If so, I’d like to see it but please post it on a different thread.

In Quake Arena speed could be obtained in various ways so keeping a speedometer on screen was important to understand the mechanics. This was optional of course and could be very easily implemented in GW2.

It would without a doubt completely void the game world of players. Yeah sure, Anet would most certainly make bank off of it, but it’s obvious you have no idea how this would effect the game.

You can’t just showcase something like that and expect only a few people to go for it. Everyone will get it, and every zone besides WvW and Orr will be emptier then it already is. Yeah, that’s for sure healthy for the game in the long run.

If you want to play an alt, play it.

To you and to all who oppose this brilliant idea:

Do you think veterans level their alts manually in PVE? They never do. Why should they? Everybody has already seen those events over and over. Should they grind themselves to death just so you can see a bored player slaughter MOA’S? No! It would be stupid and not efficient in terms of time and gold. in the mean time they could help guild mates in various challenges.

I have 3 alts to level 80. How I did it? For each I craft 3-4 professions… using crafting boosters I get almost 10 levels/profession at level 400 crafting. In the mean time i swap my character at the end of any dungeon. COF Path 1 ends in less than 10 minutes (without Zerk Rush, that would end in 5-6 minutes) . Do the math. True story bro, in 2-3 days with a moderate effort I can push an alt to level 80. The cost? 40-50 gold at most. The game allows speed leveling. But for this I also have to suffer a few hours of crafting. I hate that. So why not contribute with a +5 gold to Arena Net and get the level 80 directly. – 50 Gold would seem a fair price.

I just saw a gameplay of footage of Guns of Icarus thinking how awesome Air Ships battles would be in WvW. Here is how it works:

  • A battleship is equipped with 6 cannons (3 on each side) and 4 arrow carts (also 2 o each side).
  • Each server has access to a maximum of three battleships simultaneously.
  • A blueprint costs a lot (maybe 20-30 gold). Takes time to build but it’s faster if constructed near supply depot.
  • A maximum of 15 players on board. People can board if the ship is landed and there is enough space.
  • The player who deployed the blueprint will be the pilot
  • Other players can man the cannons or repair damaged parts of the ship (given they have enough supplies).
  • The ship can land anywhere and players can jump off from safe distance. This way they can land directly beyond enemy walls.
  • When two ships fight in close combat the players who don’t man cannons, can also use their skills to kill each other.
  • If the ship is destroyed, the players will fall. If there is a safe distance to the ground and the players have enough health, they survive.

Environment improvements

The Floating island is a great observation point and has a magical source of supplies (spawns 10 supplies every 30 minutes). It also serves as a point control, so owning will create the challenge.

I think there will be new strategies in Air to ground and ground to air fights meaning a lot of diversity and epincness.

Weekly – 3/5 laurels
Monthly – 10 Laurels

Why changing monthly to 15? I find this good enough.

I like the idea of weekly but yearly seems a bit.. too long and will probably discourage at first.

30 + 20 + 10 = 60 laurels/month. Too much.

Weekly should have a completely different reward. Maybe tire 6 materials. And I think it shouldn’t consist in the same old silly achievements. Why not involving the players in events on empty maps long forgotten. There is so much content going on without rewards to motivate the players to participate on them.

I do PVE, WvW, Dungeon/Fractals etc. For each of these I use a different build. This goes the same for my Engineer and my Guardian and Warrior. For how long will I have to suffer loading screens and then manually retain my stats + travel to banks just to change a set?

Instead of assisting my guildies in various locations I waste precious time traveling just to do what I mentioned above. Some maps don’t have trainers and banks, so the loading time to travel way and back is ridiculous.

The solution IS NOT the Bank Express and a supposedly “mobile trainer”. The logical solution is adding a few predefined buttons/slots that store different builds.

I mean…. wow. A player can unlock over 20 bag slots in his inventory and carry thousands of items… And there is NO ROOM for an extra set of gear? Of course It should cost just as it cost to manually doing it but the time I could save will totally worth it. Unlocking an extra inventory slot is 400 gems, an extra bank chest is 600 gems and a character slot is 800. Extra armor and trait slots should could cost as well – it is not up to me to decide the price. But believe me I would buy at least 3 for each of my favorite heroes.

This is 2013 for the love of Balthazar! Such a solution should be a piece of cake compared to the rest of the game. Stop grinding our gears already. Thank you.

The Guild Wars name is in reference to the 3 guild wars that took place prior to the first game. Since this is a sequel to that game it still keeps the name. If you do some research on the wiki about Guild Wars 1 and its lore you can read about the 3 different guild wars that took place with the third one coming to an end when the first games storys was starting.

I will read about GW1, thank you for the advice. Although I think those three guild events that took place a long time ago SHOULD be the key element on any Chapter of the GW universe, including GW2.

Would I buy… why would I buy an expansion? To gain access to more empty lands? Just to see my the list of engineer bugs getting longer and the devs not even dare to look on it? Or maybe surprise myself with more unjustified nerfings? Or maybe grind for a legendary sniper rifle (the only one) when my Engi uses is as a shotgun? What a bad joke! Before The developers should plan an Expansion maybe they should focus on fixing the actual faults of the game and improve the content to a reasonable degree.

All the new content I got in months was a freaking living story with very few quests. Aaaaaand it’s gone.

Except a few monotone events around the map nothing ever happens. Everything becomes dull in 2-3 months. I see fewer and fewer people playing already. The hype is gone and the ones responsible with keeping the game alive failed to act in good time. I don’t care if 3 million people bought the game, Im sure the actual active players base is very small compared to whakitten was 6 months ago. I can’t say I’m sorry I buy Guild Wars, because I had my share of fun and amazing exploration. But no, I would never buy another expansion.

MAP PVP (while others can watch, comment and learn). These friendly fights used to bring people together. These kind of meetings often consisted in tons of players outside the main cities.

MOUNTS I used to equit a “Horn of Unilia” or “Dinorant”. The first one gave you a Moa-like bird to ride outside the city and nothing more. Oh the people and joy riding around… There was a Hippodrome where we used to race while another person would determine the winner at the finish line.

Upgrading Weapons and Armor - Yup, weapons and clothes could be upgraded, the stats getting better and the color changed. When an item reached very high levels it started glowing and having splendid visual effects, but the chance to upgrade it got slimmer and slimmer. Only to gain special items you had to resort to a Mystic Forge.

BLUE AND GREEN WEAPONS were actually good. In GW2 they are only junk sold to NPC’s, recycled or used in gamble at Mystic Forge. The rare items prices are goind gown as well. It’s sad.

[WEAPON DIVERSITY]: Yes, there is no real diversity in Guild Wars 2. For example, a 1 handed hammer is in fact a skin for a mace. In other games everything was different AND having skin variety GOD kitten IT ARENA NET it’s been a year and we got nothing but a short term living story! I remember a variety of Pole arms, Hallebarde, Spears, Scythes, Morning Stars (one AND two handed), Crossbows, One handed Crossbow(could be a legendary skin for pistol in GW2), Two Handed Axes, One Handed Hammer, Lance, etc, etc, etc…

GUILD WARS
Yes I mean actual guild wars… like sieges strictly between guilds. And don’t think a guild has to be disadvantaged, on the contrary! Each can choose it’s best 20, 30 or 50 players. There are so many competition map possibilities. God kitten it the surprise me and my friends had when there were no Guild Wars in GW2!

The list is huge and I don’t dare to bring any more games into comparison because It would only cause deception.

That’s right))) Many people associate the FT with condition weapon. And although a flamethrower SHOULD be CD, the damage comes from Power and Crits.

Yup, every of the information above is true. This game does not offer versatility only as an option. In order to be a decent player, no matter what role, you have to rely on both kits and weapons.

Short Story: I used to play a Knight set (Power, Precision, Toughness) + Flamethrower, oriented on HGH. After 2-3 months of experience in various PVE and Dungeons I perfected my dodging and the HP didn’t drop below 75% anymore. That’s when I thought I should drop the Toughness for another stat.

I suggest you try the same. You just said you prefer the pistols + Elixir gun? Well in this case you have reasons to try a Rampager’s set (Precision, Power, Condition damage). Soon has suggested Pizza as food. Adding that to this set will make you a condition nightmare.

If you feel you are too squishy all of a sudden, you can mix the set. Suppose you have your Coat Power Prec Toughness will balance things.

Not to mention that staying in rifle for auto-attack isn’t an option in this build. FT is the kit you want to stay in for toughness & might, so Poison Dart can be swapped to & back out quickly without losing the Juggernaut benefit for long.

Yeah! Poison the enemy, burn for 10 seconds (of course applying all the FT Skills in a rotation) and repeat.

Turrets would be a lot better if they were a lot tougher, or maybe if they did something like:

Turret picked up = no cooldown

2) The poison dart is 4000 damage every 13 seconds (sctual shot+recharge) with only 2 seconds of Poison (Here you go. ). The rifle is 2000 damage every 0.75 Seconds. The Rifle shots pierce. This being said, with a Berserker build a rifle does three times the damage.

You do realize its 2s per dart right? At 5 darts that’s 10s of reduced healing, not 2. ~75% uptime is pretty kitten good for both bosses and pvp.

No I did not know that, I had it wrong.
If this is the case, hitting all 5 darts you constantly keep the enemy on poison. An yes, this makes it viable indeed! Thanks for clearing that out.

I’m glad to hear it already works for you! Once you reach 80 and using a Pow + Prec + Crit gear, spamming static discharges on group of centaurs will turn them into ashes.

Precursor shouldn’t be account bound. Just sell it if you’re unlucky and buy a more appropriate one.

Going this route means it’s still a gamble like the mystic forge. The bad part is that some precursors cost more than others.

I currently use Elixir H because I found Healing Turret to be unreliable during dynamic fights, where enemies might suddenly find great interest in whacking the turret, but let’s see if I can adapt with that.

As for the Alchemy trait, why use Protection Injection instead of Invigorating Speed? Not saying you’re wrong, just wanna hear the reasoning

It is a personal preference. What you are saying is totally viable. You can even choose the elixirs cool down reduction on Alchemy if you use Elixir H. The base of the build is the Firearms and Tools. The last 10 points are up to you.

I’ve never tried Tool Kit, I might want to try that. Is the Power Wrench ground targeted attack or is it targeted attack like Surprise Shot?

It’s not ground targeted. If you don’t have a target it will fire in front of you hitting any foes. It also repairs turrets (just like smack/twack/etc). The good thing is that you can hit all 3 toolbelt skills in less than 1 second while continuing to fire your rifle.

How do you determine whether you’re a scout or not? Someone who passed by by coincidence shouldn’t get twice the result.

A player get’s to be a scout for staying separated for a certain amount of time and a certain distance from any other player or group. This is scouting. Moving ahead or behind the team and report vital information on enemy moves.

If you encourage this by rewarding scouts, there will be more spread players across the maps, more “commando” confrontation and less zerg rushes.

Improve Profession Identity

It would be nice to have each profession have a line of quests, missions, story, or whatever to get something that is profession specific. Have professions stand out from the next by missions you can do (or quest line) to get armor or weapons. Of course this will be purely cosmetic base, but it will make your profession feel apart from the other classes.

At the beginning of the game each profession is given a unique item for their profession. Necromancers and mesmers get masks. Elementalists get an elemental headpiece. Engineers can get a backpack, guardians get a helmet or shoulder pads. But it all just stops there!! Why is that? Why not allow each profession venture for personalized profession gear? These could be semi-legendaries or brand new legendaries all in themselves. I think this is missing from GW2 and adding this wouldn’t affect the overall goal of the game.

I agree with you. Those unique Items should have been given after completing profession-specific quest.

It might not sound as a major difference, but I do not think our down state is bad… I think that the down state of other professions is too strong!

It’s the same thing. It’s bad compared to other professions. However It will be easier to add something strong to the Engineer rather then nerf all other 7 classes.

So you are suggesting runes of Might Stacking in stead of Ruby Orbs. Ok, but things will change. The static discharge crits incredibly well with a full berserker – over 3000 damage. With lower precision and lower critical damage It won’t be viable.

Might Stacking runes in stead of Ruby Orbs? Well sounds good as 9 stacks of Might is + 315 Power and Condition damage. This way the Pistol is getting the better of it. But if we follow this path we should give up the Tool Kits and go HGH and stack over 20 Might. We just created a totally different build with a different play stile.

With Berserker gear, Poison Dart Volley can do 4K+ damage and Poison is a very significant utility condition that should be applied as much as possible regardless of whether you’re geared for Condition Damage or not.

Very good information, but you are missing out a few points.

1) The Rifle range is 1000, the Pistol is 900.

3) In PVE/Dungeon hitting a single target with a pistol isn’t worth it. It would maybe with piercing shots but that would change the whole thread idea. The rifle Jump Shot on the other hand has a radius blast and you can quickly evade using Overcharged Shot. It goes brilliant against a group of enemies hitting each of them with 8000 damage.

4) I agree on bosses the poison reduce the health Regen but it can easily be compensated with the rifle’s better damage.

PS: Nobody called you a vegetable. You are a fellow engineer and I thank you for your good statements.

I’ll probably shop around for another mmo if mounts do end up getting a definite no.

As time goes on things look grim for mounts especially with a nonsensical hostility about them coming from the community.

I just hope that my dream for a horse in gw2 can come true because I know that gw2 is a hard game to replace.

1. If mounts are all that’s kept you here to begin with, go play WoW. They’ve got lots of mounts. Horses and ponies and dragons and mammoths. It’d be your wet dream. Really.

2. Nonsensical? You and the people you concur with are insulting the opposition left and right and being passive-aggressive. Of course the opposition is going to be ‘nonsensically hostile’. That, and you pretend that they don’t make an argument by ignoring the ones they do make.

3. I agree, GW2 is a hard game to replace. It’s great, I love it here. But if your horses are the one thread you’ve been hanging onto since launch, it isn’t the great game for you and never was.

The absurdity of this silly opposition is reaching the stars…

1) I don’t like WoW but I like mounts. I don’t want a pony, I want a Moa for my Asura. I don’t want a Mammoth, I want a Dolyak for my Norn. So I demand mounts in GW2., and trust me I shall get them. We already have mountable items in Gem Store so it’s been proven a great success.

2) Yep… Nonsensical! There were no real arguments against mounts. Just because WoW has mounts doesn’t mean a thing. Why don’t you reject dungeons? WoW used it before Guild Wars 1 was made. And instances. And many many more features that define a good MMO today. It’s plain stupid to send a player to get WoW for this. It would be a damage to the community which is already getting slimmer.

3. FYI Guild Wars 2 had many improvements doe to capable and inventive players on these forums. The examples are countless. From bug fixes to class balancing, to item design, events, etc, etc. Riding is a thing thousands will enjoy. Do you understand???


Conclusion: Mounts will not affect players who don’t use it in any way. They will not byte you, they will not smell and they will poop on the pathways. Most likely they will be the same animals you already see around the maps and even the cites. So my friend the solution is simple. We ride, you walk.

I think you didn’t understand that this thread was about Static Discharge build and NOT the classic HGH + Flamethrower. He needs the ranges toolbelt skills for direct strike at opponents, throwing elixirs are bugged with S.D. Didn’t he say in the first post that he uses the surprise shot as a projectile finisher?

Finally: In choosing the Rifle versus the Pistol, you have to be mindful that by choosing the Pistol you have two sigils to work with versus one. I don’t think the decision is anywhere near as clear-cut as you suggest. There are many advantages to running with the Pistol, regardless of whether or not you use Power or Condition Damage in your gear.

Hence my current dilemma. Do I keep using the P/S that I’ve always used or switch to rifle? Sigils, control, redundancy, finishers, conditions…they all play a part.

Don’t take the pistol in a damage build. Pistols are for condition damage builds. Good players won’t advise you otherwise An extra sigil will never make up for the loss of a good control weapon and damage.

Well, maybe you shouldn’t wait for the end of this debate. Take all the opinions as choices. Guild Wars 2 is very complex and each of us speak from his own play style perspective. Go ahead and try it yourself but please come back to share your opinion.

Chiming in here because I have no experience with the rifle so something like this might get me into it.

The basis behind damage dealing is simply to autoattack and spam your toolbelt skills on CD? Toolkit has some nice utility (shield, cripple) so that’s a help. Do you never drop rifle turret, just bring it for the low CD belt skill?

No, there is much more than just spamming TB skills. I didn’t mention that the engineer’s source of speed on this build comes from constantly swapping kits. “speedy Kits” allows us to gain 5 seconds of swiftness every time we swap. This way we have endless speed. For some it is annoying but I love it. Saves a slot (which other classes waste on signets just to get the 25% speed.)

The Utility googles are used to break out of stun, gaining fury and immunity to blindness. This is very important when escaping or engaging enemies. The tool skill that comes with applies 10 freaking stacks of vulnerability for 8 seconds. This is humongous and should be the starting skill of any engagement.

Then we have the Toolkit. This is where all the fun begins. We have the Smack which does damage better than a knights one handed sword and also repairs turrets (if the healing turret is used). Dropping the box of nails will cripple enemies that pass through it, this is also used to escape. A Pry Bar hit to the face will apply 5 confusion to your foe. The Gear Shield will block any attacks for 3 seconds and the magnet is the best of the best: pulls foes near you. This way you can take a a monster and separate it from the group (works best in WvW with other players).

The Rotations

I have 2 rotations in mind, two different attacks (although you are free to explore and exploit the combo fields if there are any).

1) Net shot + Jump Shot on immobilisers target + Blunderbuss + Overcharged Shot + all the toolbelt skills to release the static discharge and then continue the rifle fire. You can do it by shooting the vulnerability first if you like.

2) Magnet pull your foe + Pry Bar to the face, [Switch to rifle] hit Blunderbuss + Overcharged Shot +Jump Shot.

As I said, this works best with berserker. Think about you have 3 discharges that bounces in 3 different targets, if each hits over 2000 damage per hit that means over 18.000 total damage (without the rifle that’s already shooting).

Please try it and give some feedback. i’d also like to hear opinions on how to make the better of this.

Yes, I have the perfect thing for you. This is “almost” what I settled with. High damage and a fair range. I tested this build with great success in dungeons and WvW. The secret is the static discharge released when using a tool belt skill. That will bounce though three enemies. So let’s resume. You have to equip a Kit but you won’t use it whatsoever. A total of 7 projectiles that will crush the enemy.

FIREARMS: 30 Points with: IV, VI, IX
ALCHEMY: 10 Points with: VI
TOOLS: 30 Points with: II, VI, VIII
*You may notice that this increases critical damage and reduces tool belt skills recharge.

So equip the following: Rifle Turret, Tool kit and Utility Googles. Why? Because they will add the following to your toolbelt:

- Surprise shot
- Throw Wrench
- Analyze

Using those traits, each of these will also hit the foes with the discharge bolt.

Hints:
- Use whatever healing you are used to, I recommend the healing turret
- You will use the tool belt skills constantly you may want to bind them on the keys: Q,E,R,C (in stead of F1, F2, F3, F4) but this is a matter of preference.
- You won’t have great condition removers but your range from the monsters will compensate.

It is a funny post. First of all, you should mention if it’s PVE pr PVP. This is very important, the domains are quite different. But you mentioned “dungeon” and I assumed it’s all about PVE. You also did not say anything about your armor, runes or sigils. The build and traits should change completely if you use a direct damage or condition damage set.

Gun is worthless? Of course it’s not worthless. Suppose you have to retreat to heal or get out of AOE circle, the range of the FT will be useless. You need a range weapon as well. You can take either P/P, P/S or a rifle.

PS: If a weapon has many traits doesn’t mean it’s stronger. Putting all the traits into one thing makes you weak on other aspects.
