Best gear in terms of damage output for grenades is Rampager (Power, Precision, Condition damage combo)

I use Berserker with grenades. I prefer a higher critical damage over conditions.

Ofcourse they Will. Mounts will be cosmetic, maybe a charge skill for speed (with cool down) or a funny interaction and sounds. Legendary weapons don’t give anything beside looks and so should mounts. I will com on this post over and over until his small and cute feature will be implemented.

Hey there. I spent over 50% of my time trying to make the FT Work. I spent money on various sets and runes. Although I reached 5000 damage with a full berserk er build + might stacking I finally understood that the damage output isn’t the highest of all kits. In fact is mediocre. Nakooda here helped a lot in understanding why the Grenades are greater. Although I have always hated the way they aim, I have to admit they are the supreme Kit (condition damage or not). But this doesn’t mean the Flamethrower can’t be very strong. Especially mixed with a static discharge should wreak havoc! I will take your build spet by step. Please put these in practice and tell me your feedback.

1) Choose rifle over Pistol
The Engineer pistol has very low direct damage and it is a condition applier weapon. The rifle is a direct output and works best with a zerker set. It also offers control options such as stun and knock back. Hell you can even “rocket jump” toward enemies or retreat from them. So combine it with the flamethrower abilities and versatility will never end.

[Sigils]
There are two I recommend. Either pick sigil of superior fire, or sigil of superior air. The first one releases a flame blast every 6 seconds, just like the #2 FT skill. This means you will constantly explode enemies. The Sigil of air is a higher damage to a single foe. Still i recommend fire in PVE/Dungeon, air is usually in PVP. Your call.

Runes
Why struggle to stack might if you don’t use Alchemy / HGH and Elixirs. You don’t want to worry about a few stacks of might, you want to be certain on your damage. Ofcourse you will choose Ruby Orbs over anything else.

Traits
It’s almost perfect for the build you described. However prepare to be shocked. You may want to try and give up “Juggernaut”. For a few might stacks and 200 toughness you could maybe choose something else that’s much more suitable for you. Juggernaut used to give stability but it got nerfd. So you wanted endurance regen? Here it is the alternative:

1) Add Tools XII: Adrenal implant (50% faster endurance regen). This als gives +10% tool belt skill recharge. Is it logical for a SD build?
Now you don’t need “invigorating speed” anymore. Choose something else from Alchemy. Maybe protection injection? It’s up to you.

Turret trait idea: Perimeter Defense

When two or more turrets are placed within 900 of each other they form an electrical barrier that stuns enemies crossing it (2 seconds). Any player attacking one of your turrets is stunned (1 second with an 8 second cooldown).

It gives them some defense and helps them feel more like area denial with incentive to play more than one turret while thinking about placement.

This means supply drop on an enemy not only stuns him, bur creates a force field that will stun him again

Heh… there is another way. Don’t ban the player unless you offer him 1 chance to change his name amd make it right. The team shouldn’t even waste time. Do a simple warning like this:

“Dear player,

This is a warning. Your name is violating the rules (link to the rules). In order to login we offer the possibility to change your character name. Choosing a similar name that will further contradict with our rules, will lead to your account ban temporary or permanent. Thank you for your understanding. "

This means giving a second chance, not all players are fascists.

Citadel of flame: 100.000 tokens.

Well, every Zerk warrior will get one almost free because its all they do. The Zerk Mesmer as well. Every other classes can cry because they will never participate in speed farms… only if they have a Zerk War.

Here are a few other things:

1) Allow PVP on Map
Many players complain of being bored to hell when they wait for an event. In stead of just staying doing cheap-chat they could friendly fight each other while others watch and this way learn a lot of new things. Other MMO’s by Arena Net had these features implemented from the start and it proved great success. Players shouldn’t be forced to seek empty rooms in some Mist – that place is for Team vs Tea, objective fighting.

2) There is room for more than one living story at a time.
It takes a few hours for an active player to finish a living story. This is not ok, things should be different in order to constantly offer the player entertaining. Like OP mentioned, Ebonhawke is a good place for action. There are tons of Charr Tanks, Gunner Motorcycles, Huge transport Crawlers outside the city just waiting for the slightest signal to open fire. Ebonhawke is the fortress Charr never managed to breech and the tensions are still high.

3) Cultural armors for professions.
Yes, just like races have their own cultural armor, professions should have as well. What am I talking about? A real Engineer Costume and dresses as well. Wizards should have the option to look like this Each profession should have their very specific clothes.

4) Legendary Clothes
Yes, legendary clothes should be the hardest thing a player can acquire. I’ll give you only 3 examples of legendary clothes:

Light armor – Joy and Sorrow
Medium Armor – Shadow Walker
Heavy Armor – Endless Deep

Many more can be added…

Turrets STILL "useless"

What puzzles me most is how they have been ‘buffing’ turrets for 2 patches now, in some attempt to open up more builds… but failed to even recognise the main weaknesses of turrets.

My only tough is that current devs don’t have access to the source code, but only a limited control panel to change some variable numbers.

Is it just me or It seems that Arena net didn’t develop the game, but they only have access to maintain it. This is how I explain the lack of actual change of contents. In stead all they do in tweak a few numbers in a control panel to adjust the speed, damage, radius and… that’s it. Every month we get different numbers so the next month we get other nerfings. It all seems like a useless loop.

Without direct intervention on the game code regarding the animation and skill editing there will be no real improvements.

Let’s be honest here, I can take whatever trait and whatever weapons I want in WvW and make it work. Nice try buddy.

I’m sorry if you felt offended by a Youtube video. I just wanted to correct your statement, and point out that the rifle integrates very well in strong builds, striking outrageous amounts of damage and knocking down any opponent (3.5K – 12k damage).

And no, you can’t choose any trait and any weapon and then make them work in WvW, that would be ridiculous. You actually need to think, plan, test and rework a build in order to make it work. Cheers

Of course I use gadgets! Many people do depending on the build. Utility Goggles are pretty great, working well with static discharge build.

Yes but think of signets as our gadget. Gadget need a rework as they are anyways and that fits into the game. Gadget can have a passive effect on the utility bar and then an active skill in the toolbelt. Why couldn’t a gadget give off a sciency effect to the magic effect of signets?

You are right, this is a great idea. Instead of adding new signets, Arena Net should add passive buffs to the existing gadgets. This is a good point since the gadgets have very limited options compared to the kits.

But in terms of Elite? Should there be an Elite skill that gives passive buffs?

Ok but who asked you if you would use them or not? In stead give an opinion on a Signet type-skill for engineer. If you indeed played this class you would know we clearly lack good Elite skills. Only one widely used is supply drop… the rest are not worth even mentioning.

Engineer is the only class without (Signet). Now don’t tell me that signets are magical and we are mechanical geniuses because this is a video game and anything can be adapted. A signal can also be a device. How about giving us an ultimate that can work as a signet? This way we can only use one at a time. Here are just a few:

1) Perpetuum Mobile (Signet to increase movement speed)
Passive: 25% movement speed increase
Active: Quickness 3 seconds, Faster endurance regeneration for 10 seconds.
Background: This motor is the dream of many engineers out there, especially those who don’t use Speedy Kits trait or boon duration runes. Endurance regeneration dosen’t stack intensity with this.

2) Antikythera Calculator (Signet to encourage the rifle and P/P builds)
Passive: +10% Rifle range and +10% Pistol fire rate.
Active: Gain Stability, Fury and your next 3 attacks do more damage
Background: In order to follow a certain build players feel forced to use grenades, bombs or other kits even if they don’t enjoy them. This impeccable precision relic will empower dedicated Rifle and Pistol users differently but efficiently.

3) Urn of Phoenix Ashes (signet to encourage FT only users)
Passive: Flamethrower damage increased by 15%. Range increased from 425 to 600
Active: Burn nearby foes, +50% speed for 2 seconds.
Background: The Phoenix represent the speed and force of fire. Activating will consume the orb but it will rise from it’s own ashes. This signet will empower engineers who love the flamethrower and prefer to use it as a main weapon. (other FT skills (2,3,4,5) will not receive a buff so players who use it as secondary a utility skill will not be over powered).


These are my ideas to help promote some disadvantaged play styles. Please help in perfecting or adding ideas to make the engineer indeed a versatile class with each weapon or kit! Sooner or later the devs will hear our calls.

+1 This is a wonderful idea! I suggest a steam-punk based machine located in the Black Citadel that generates random numbers one a week. All the players can gather to see it real time.

Mystic Forge is also gambling. Some people made literally a hundred thousand gold out of it while other lost everything.

The game is perfect the way it is. Many mmo games failed by adding a ridiculous advantage to paying players. There are tons of items every month. If you want to support the game buy them like most players do. The second a premium account option is introduces, thousands of players will quit and thousands more will be discouraged to enter.

You missed a few races in this post. There are tons possibilities since many races are smart and you can see the across the map with different professions (merchants, hunters, guards, etc). Many speak the common language or can interact well with the main races. I will post a few more with a certain potential (some of them they have towns of their own, some are considered extinct and some we may not even be aware about)

I agree to this idea. Buying a manual with badges instead of gold would actually prove that commander knows what he is doing and is worthy of such a title.

But A-Net has to keep the gold flowing so it should be something like 30 Gold + 1000 tokens.

In CoE, I was easily hitting for 12k with it on both parts, on a < 1 second cast time point blank.

Hahaha let’s get real. A pure berserker with all traits for flamethrower + 25 stacks of might + Omnomberry bar + potion of slaying a certain creature wouldn’t pass 6000….

Well you didn’t search this forum at all. There is a topic designed for builds. You can pick from many good ones posted by experienced players. This class is the most versatile (after Ele) so you must try a few in order to see what fits you best.

I have ideas of a simple trait replacement:

High Voltage
The static discharge makes one extra bounce hitting 4 targets in stead of one.

Smoking barrels
Turrets have a 15% chance to release smoke when hit

Battery packs
Turrets have a 10% to electrocute and stun when hit with a melee attack.

Glue pain
Bombs stick to enemies passing over them

Toolbelt V 2.0
Toolbelt skills have a wider radius / longer range.

Yes I would clearly use it! Imagine releasing 3 discharge bolts while firing my rifle, with my berserker gear the critical chance would be perfect. Even for grenadiers, the critical hits could make a difference. They would release the grenade barage+another skill while standing still in a distance.

Maybe that’s why they don’t want to change it… they would have to nerf other things.

Our kits give you 5 abilities just like weapons. Besides we ca only equip 3 items as weapons and have basically only 2 directions.

Codition damage: Pistol/Pistol or Pistol/Shield
High Direct damage: Rifle
