Winner of Curse’s NA Masters Tournament

What makes you think you need to bypass the front guards in the first place?
Thief is the only class that really needs to because 1 stun = death.
Go watch Teldo’s stream or something. I’ve seen him tank all of the minions and not even blowing his elite.
Hoping to hear something soon verifying their stance on solo queues so I can know whether to keep playing or not…
This one is a joke compared to Mad King’s Clock Tower…
RIP MK CT
It’s guys like you that got the event jump puzzle nerfed.
The halloween one was SO FUN it took me like half an hour to finish it and like 2 hours to perfect it.
Even when I had the run down 99%, there were the chests to loot on your way up which added a whole new degree of difficulty.
So much fun…
But this disgrace of a Christmas puzzle… I finished it on 2nd try… /no/ sort of enhanced difficulty level for those who have completed it… Nothing. I spent 15 minutes there and I’m done.
Know how many hours I spent on the Halloween Puzzle? Every second while waiting in paid queue.
Ah well… At least there’s the Bell-Hero minigame to kinda make up for it.
and they raced up to the lord, bypassing guards (as only thieves can) and got to work.
half of the classes can. Mesmers, Engies, Thieves, Eles(with the new smoke field).
I had used immobilize and 2 knockdowns + aoes, and only a couple hit because they were dodged or blocked.
All you need is one well-timed CC to kill a thief on Lord. That or just clear the conditions on the Lord as any Necro/Mesmer/Ele easily can.
I was in a hotjoin yesterday we managed to 3cap+spawnkill the enemy team for most of the game because they had gotten 5/6 thieves whilst we only had 1/6.
Just sayin.
Tank D/D Ele is the strongest class in the game right now. Necro has aoe sig res+the highest dps and is necessary in every tPvP team.
If you’re not worried about January’s balance changes, those 2 are your best bets right now.
Some examples: …..
Oooh Oooh! Lemme try!
Thieves-
Strong against: Other Thieves
Weak against: Warriors and anything with more than 14k HP/900 Toughness
Warriors-
Strong against: Thieves
Weak against: Everything else.
Lol. Seriously though, there is no 1v1 in this game its 90% teamfight. And yeah, OP its pretty balanced except for ele downstate and sig res.
While this change may have been a good idea, they should have finished (or…started, rather) to buff those weapon sets that were only used for out-of-combat movement or buffs.
I mean like Warrior, for example, why would I use Warhorn to give my team swiftness and then completely gimp myself the rest of the match by missing out on a stun or block from wielding a shield?
With this change in place, we can see things like Warhorns get buffed to be on-par with other sets without being abused by weapon swapping.
For example, maybe the new Warrior Warhorn could give AoE swiftness and vigour (duration increased by 50% or more) plus a skill to give aoe -% dmg from condi dmg or something idk.
I highly recommend the Naga Hex.
It’s just so awkward trying to strafe right, for example, and trying to hit the E,R,F, etc.. hotkeys.
Or, people ask me if its annoying to spam my 1 as my autoattack option is turned off. I imagine it would be if you were using the keyboard as “1” would mean the inability to strafe left.
I can’t believe I ever gamed without one.
I’ve actualy found a streamer which was quite enjoyable to watch, Thought his name was LoLjumper or something. Explains quite some things etc
But my quality is awful. :/ At least until I can get partnered and afford to move somewhere with half decent (>1mb) upload speed.
Its not really lack of competitive population, Its more like lack of casuals playing SpvpEven those basic competitive features are useless if game is too complex for casual players.
Lack of competitive population is an issue as well. Paids only pop a few hours out of the day. There are only a handful of teams at the moment. Most competitive players already left and went back to SC2/League/etc. after realizing this game wouldn’t be competitive for at least another 1/2-1 year.
Watched the 2nd video link by zone, looked good. Wish GW2 had longer combat. Too much burst in this game, folks.
You can die in 1-combo if you don’t combobreak it correctly.
Just like in GW2 how you can die in 1 hundredblades or backstab if you don’t stunbreak it.
DN is far more unforgiving to casuals than GW2.

—snip—
I think you posted in the wrong topic.
But thanks for the bump anyways, I guess.
(edited by Jumper.9482)
I think the game is fairly balanced other than ele downstate and res signets…
Sure, Necro may do twice the dps as a thief as AoE, but it requires clutch positioning and awareness to do so. I’d like to see, however, other builds being buffed to par such as glass longbow ranger, grenade engi.
As the game is now, its pretty much whoever’s Necro is left standing wins. Just ignore every other class other than thief unless he gets in melee range (meaning he has a deathwish).
Its a matter of reality, I understand people enjoy getting a master killing oneshot combo, because it’s fun killing others in game. However, everyone thinking twice know that oneshotting as possibility don’t belong in a viable e-sport. A game needs to be more balanced and interesting than that, and it’s one of the major balance issues for the e-sport spirit of the game. Sure people can counter it, but it simply shouldnt be there to start with… e-sport needs to demand more from it’s players.
This post made me laugh.
Actually , I have to agree that the problem seems to be toughness .
as much as i want to agree with that, if they fix toughness so it does less damage, this game will be ruined for good. bunker wars 2
>Buff Toughness
>Nerf Infinite Sustain
=Bunker Ele and Guards will die eventually if left 1v1 for >2 minutes instead of living until 3 dps or a Necro hit them.
=“OP THIEVES” fixed for lower-skilled players
=No change for burst at higher end play (everyone survives or stunbreaks it anyway…)
(edited by Jumper.9482)
So you’re mad because….. Mesmers are fairly balanced now?
I for one welcome our new Necro and Ele overlords.
Hmm…maybe, which is why I said they’d need to test it. But if three guardians were really invincible, every team would run them for point control in the current meta. Just put three guardians on mid point and a team of 5 won’t be able to bring them down, right?
One necro can drop all 3 of them left unchecked in a few (10-15 seconds).
Although it may work if one to two of those guards were DPS specced and focused on the necro…
Necro>>>Ele>Guard/Mesmer>Warrior/Thief/Engi/Ranger in the current meta imo.
Better Idea.
I demand Thieves get a res signet.
That way people will stop complaining about the oh-so-easy-to-stop stealth resses.
:)
I wouldn’t have considered blocking overpowered as much as it was just so kitten annoying.
>Priest blocks (or throws down totem)
>Forced to run away for 20(?) seconds until the block wore off
>Continue for 10 seconds until block comes up again
>Continue until time limit expires or you kill the noob in 1 combo inbetween cooldowns.
Imagine you’re playing Street Fighter and the guy you’re playing just pauses the game and walks out the room “brb bio”. He comes back 40 seconds later. You resume for 5 more seconds and he pauses again. “brb grabbing a drink”. This repeats over and over.
The unspoken rules are there to make the gameplay even faster paced and fun. Not for balance IMO. These rules were present in Lunia as well. Another common one being ‘In a 2v2, if an enemy dies, take turns 1v1ing the survivor.’
I imagine that the CC-lock that Seether mentions actually takes quite a bit of skill. My impression from playing it as that you have to have a fairly deep knowledge of the game to effectively juggle a competent player for any length of time. Also, the game was entirely aim-based.
Every class has a ‘combo breaker’ ability on a 25 second cooldown I believe.
@OP, I think this vid much better represents DN:

Also, from what I remember the Korean WCG last year was filled with Gladiators and Priests (totem spam omg…)

Myself soloing the highest level/mode Boss level in the NA Beta a little over a year ago.

I would say condition thief. I run a P/D and shortbow with caltrops and can cap points insanely fast. Almost never die nowdays, had a 4 hour sPVP session last week with like 1 death. It’s SOOO much better than buirst builds.
I wonder what your average point score was in that session.
I finds that when I am placed on a weak team where the other side is zerging and getting scores like 290, 280,250. . .
…that by running around capping I get only about 7 caps or so before it’s over, for about 100 points.
I hope that when they revise the scoring for sPvP (as they said they are going to do) that they make the scoring less for zerg-related activity and more for defending and taking points, and killing trebuches.
You have to play sneakily. Flank the zerg and burst 1 down before the rest notice. Then move onto capping the node.
I almost always top the highest even on the losing (non-zerging) side.
I agree. CTF has always been very dynamic and fun to play, whether it was FPP or MMO.
It would be great to have it here!Who knows, maybe in a week we will get just that
Oh God.. please don’t even hint at that, because then next week we’ll get a flood of forums posts saying “Anet promised CTF by now and failed”.
But the post I read about PvP during the build up said they had already worked and developed several other PvP style games and maps, so they are probably sitting on the skeleton work for several new gamestyles. The October holiday PvP event to me was evidence of this, that wasn’t something they threw together in a month.
Well, actually, there was a really nice Hunger Games pvp event for BWE3 which couldn’t have taken much time due to massive balance overhauls and bugfixes.
ANET can really pump out content when they try. It’s a mystery why they’re just watching PvP die…
Haha, yeah, DN was EXTREMELY fun. It’s pretty much exactly like Lunia was except 3D.
But that’s just it. Fun. There was/is no push to make it eSport.
I’m not really playing GW2 for the ‘fun factor’, I’m doing it to compete.
Which at this point is highly laughable as the promise of “first MMO eSport” fades away.
May as well go crawling back to League…
I think it’s obvious by the class population in hotjoin, but thieves excel at stealthing past zergs, capping unmanned points, and bursting unskilled stragglers.
I haven’t seen any “hacking”. But there are a few notorious exploiters running amok without consequence.
Looks like people have forgotten this thread existed and moved the discussion to the original SotG topic. >>;
75k glory.
15chars
on a side note, I just wish necros could have it as easy as thieves. Running a pure bleed build you put everything(runes, sigils, traits, and weapon selections) into maximizing bleed potency and duration. At most after hitting six different weapon abilities, swapping sets, and using most of your utilities you still only have a 19 bleed stack. To be able to lay down a caltrops and spam death blossom and hit 25 stacks seems a tad unbalanced.
Necros’ bleeds are more potent.
Also, its not about getting to 25 stacks. It’s about stacking them a bit at a time in accordance to your enemies’ condi clear.
Ex: against necros I frontload most of my bleeds because I know most of them only run a clear on their heal and they wont use it till they’re half hp. When they hit half hp I’ll keep 3 stacks and play defensively until they heal. Then I can start 6-9stacking them. If you spam 3 (25 stacks) and leave no initiative left for stealth the necro will clear it then melt you within seconds—it’s basically a suicide rush attempt.
Hybrid builds don’t work for thieves. Thieves’ only have bleed dmg but most necros spec so they dish out bleeds equal to thieves as well as incredible power damage eg. Wells.
tl;dr: condi thieves do half as much dps as necros (unless the target stands in caltrops and takes 25 stacks all at once and doesn’t use a condi clear) and are easier to manage via condi clear.
(edited by Jumper.9482)
Duo queue is some of the most fun to be had in this game. Kinda sucks when you just run into a r35+ full premade and know you stand almost no chance.
Sounds to me like you just want everything that counters your build to get nerfed.
Since you’re complaining about caltrops point assault build I can only assume you’re playing a home-point mesmer with 18k hp and you aren’t swapping to null-field, because a standard home-point ele or guard would have very little problem with condi clear even if not specced for it.
When you see a condi thief on the enemy team, know that their ONLY job is to assault your point. They are useless at defending and if they teamfight mid they are hurting their team because a Necro puts out twice the dps they can.
tl;dr: No single build can do everything. Learn your matchups. Swap your utilities. Change your amulet accordingly.
The only class I would consider having no counter to condi thieves would be warrior because of their extreme lack of condi clear (mainly only on heal+shakeitoff). But who mains home-point warrior?
Although I will agree with you however that condi thieves need buffs and they should move some of the dps away from caltrops and onto other areas to help them play viably while not being forced into assaulting an enemy point. Idk maybe it would be great if caltrops lasted for ~65% as long but instead immobilized on cast (much like Engie’s glue-shot). Maybe reduce the cooldown and aoe a bit.
ITT: Rank 10s thinking they know class balance.
There are only 2 pvp servers. NA and EU. From what I hear EU queues pop more often.
Not sure if serious. We have 5v5 hotjoin but it is vastly unpopular compared to 8v8.
Please reply and show your support.
Warning I will be making a lot of LoL references due to the success of the game as an esport and my personal experience.
A matchmaking system for tournaments is great and all. And I know its been in the works for a while now and you have your own reasons for doing so, but that is not what we need right now.
Right now, in free tournaments, yeah you could say that it’s a problem for new teams to get stomped by top players. But have you considered it from the top players’ point of view? It’s a great dream that these players should be matched against eachother and all, but get real! How long do you think queue times will get?
Take a look at League. When my team was rank 5 on the NA ladder premade queues took upwards of 30 minutes – 1 hour. And that’s just to find Two teams that are similarly skilled. Imagine how long it will take to find 8. And what will happen when 7 teams are queued for paids and one of them is a “top team” while the other 6 are lower ratings? Matchmaking will wait for 2 more low rating teams to throw them in a tournament and leave that one top team in queue for another hour? Not to mention GW2’s playerbase isn’t nearly as big as League’s. This is a huge concern because free tournaments are the only way to play with your team when paids aren’t popping. You know what my League team was doing when queues took more than 1 hour and noone was on to scrim? We didn’t do a 5-man normal queue. We made a smurf ranked team. Not because we wanted to stomp casuals. But because we had fun playing together and it helped tighten our coordination/communication and other necessary teamwork skills. When we wanted to improve our individual skills and compete against other individual players around our level when our teammates aren’t on? There’s a solo queue option for that.
When I heard there will be no solo queue in the works for next month I can’t tell you how upset I was. In this game communication is FAR more important than say, in League. Why? Because in League everyone in solo queue sticks to the metagame since there are no premades. You won’t normally see ad+support top and yorick/plank/etc.. bottom lane like in premade play. When you apply this to GW2, there is no minimap. You have to rely on your team to tell you where the enemy is heading, if they need help or not. If a solo queue group runs into an equally skilled premade group, sorry ANET but they have VERY little chance of winning.
Example: Even among top teams it gets difficult to organize a counter-strat for example if the enemy pulls a 1-0-4 push on you. You can’t leave your guardian on mid point because [with the current meta,] then you’re fighting 3 dps and 1 support vs 2 dps 1 support and 1 tank. While you’re fighting this uneven battle the enemy mesmer is slowly killing your mid guardian. For a solo team it would be nearly impossible to counter something like this due to lack of communication. Not to mention in solo queue its a complete dice-roll if you get a balanced team-comp or not—much like League. Sometimes you get 5ADs or 1 guy who doesn’t want to support so he picks a 2nd rAD Carry. But you know what? It’s ok because we know the enemy team has an equal chance of getting an imbalanced teamcomp since the max queue is duo (2).
A soft-matchmaking system for tournaments is OK. But please, take a look at Paid queue. It pops maybe 4 hours out of the day. There’s just no way to find 8 equally skilled teams at every hour. Finding two teams however doesn’t create this snowball effect of “There’s only 1 team other than us queued right now this queue will take hours. Let’s just go stomp frees instead while waiting for more teams to get on and queue”.
Tl;dr: Say yes to Solo and Premade single-match queues+ladder rankings. Matchmaking for tournaments should come secondary. I really don’t want to see this game die.

I suggested this on my stream, but, imo it would be great to have a gem-cost per spectate. Maybe give the owner of that custom game (if he allows spectators) 10% or so of the cost?
I’d like to see a chart of tPvP for comparison.
hey can you ask if we will be getting a advanced playlist soon.
a place were preemades can play and learn to get better and build up tickets for paids. and practice so they get better so there is more good teams in paid.
a link to it is here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Advanced-Playlist-Coming-Soon/first
i had over a 1.000 ppl tell me they wanted this and that doesnt count all the ppl that randomly say it in chat because they are new to game and dont know were to voice there opinion.
We REALLY don’t need to spread players between hotjoin, free, adv, paid, customs, soloq rank, premade ranked.
Should just do-away with the whole tournament system. It was an awful idea to start.
Not nearly as much mobility as ele/mesmer/guard home bunker. You will get neutral’d on fairly easily if you try to support mid.
Oh, almost forgot… 6: Is the “miss” on targets outside of LOS such as behind walls or cliffs intended? It seems almost like a cheat.
Quite the funny rant there.
But I’ll just focus on the one comment that this game is ‘all burst and no skill’
Have you actually watched two skilled thieves verse?
I’ll tell you right now—no r40+ thief I’ve ever seen just sits there and eats full backstab combos.
It usually comes down to 15-20 second duels mostly utilizing the shortbow. Whoever can manage their evades/initiative/stealths more skillfully wins.
I don’t think there is anything quite as fun and intense in this or any mmo.
I wish there were more 40+ thieves out there so I could experience this more often and become a better player. Shoutout to Deeja and Payne.
Secondly, I’ll let you in on this little secret. Some may consider it an exploit, but there’s this npc in the mists where you can buy (for free) amulets to nearly double your health pool. Try replacing your glass-fail amulet with it. This way even if you play casually and can’t stunbreak/blind/protection/retal/block/dodge/invuln yourself out of a backstab burst, you can still live through it with half your health remaining and continue to swat away that annoying little thief buzzing at your back.
Although as far as the main point I feel you were trying to get across, that tPvP=“skilled” and sPvP/WvW=“newbs” is somewhat true and yet false.
tPvP doesn’t represent individual skill. Neither does sPvP or WvW.
Most players who strive to become the best they can however strive for competition and reward. This is where free and paid tournaments come in. The (not so much “pro”, but rather “competitive”) players find and build upon eachother. You don’t see CLG for example scrimming against 1200 elo friendlist pug groups in normal games do you? Ofcourse not! Do I want to play hotjoins all day and stomp r15 casual players (~90% of sPvPers)? Well the glory farming is nice but do I enjoy it and does it help me grow as a player? Nope. Will I play solo/duo queue ranked 5v5 when it comes out? Kitten Yeah! I can’t wait!
Tl;dr: Where competition is found: skill is built, rivalries and friendships are made, and the game grows as a whole.
Depends if you can hold the point for 10 seconds or not.
Yes? > Die on node.
No? > Run. Don’t feed them 5 free points.
I’ve had plenty of games where the game is decided by 5-10 points.
For me winning (in a hotjoin) is the difference between 400 and 325 glory per match. (~75glory win bonus)
“Smite-like” commands would be amazing.
eg. V 2(Defend) 3(Close Point)
Especially once (if) solo queue finally comes around.
Also, pings should make a sound. As well as fixing the bug that players from different servers can’t see map marks/pings.
Because this isn’t WoW.
WoW is the only game in the history of ever to have a PTR.
Every class has a counter to glass cannons. I just picked the two easiest ones to execute to describe because the OP seems to not have played the game past rank 10.
Nor have you apparently. Well, maybe in another two months’ time you’ll figure it out.
Sorry but all around bad idea.
Any ele that knows even half of his skills can sustain himself through the glassiest of cannons. An infinite 1v1.
I would propose if certain sustain classes were banned (aka ele, guard) this may have a chance to work out.
The only reason 1v1 tournies work in League is because tank/supports are actually killable over a long period of time. In this game its less about mitigation and more about infinite sustain (which adds the element of “skillful” tanking dodging, condi removing, etc… rather than just stat mitigation).
There NEEDS to be a solo/duo ladder queue.
That and 5v5 ladder queue should be #1 and #2 priority right now, respectively.
THEN custom games.
THEN, and MAYBE then, this.
+1
Although it may take too much away from when ranked queues are released. It would be splitting the population even thinner.
