You sir are a monster, and very short sighted. What we should actually do is tame them and raise them to be Lion’s Arc defenders. Lion’s Arc now has airships for sky defense, already had the navy for above water defense, the Lion’s Guard for land defense and an army of Karkuard would make ideal underwater defense. Also since they’re walking tanks they would be pretty useful on land too.
What can I say, I think they would be so tasty with some good horseradish sauce. And I’m not a monster, I’m just a guy in a woman avatar who’s wearing a quaggan outfit is all :p
Though really I do like your plan; if and I mean, IF they could be trained then I’m all for it. Otherwise I’ll go with my default plan
Well yes, obviously if training turns out to be unfeasible then a grand Karka B-B-Q in the Commodore Quarter is the way to go.
Well, I’m stuck at work, so even if I wanted to do it I couldn’t.
That aside, what does Rolan’s Master Key do?
seriously before freaking out look around the UI or ask your guildies/friends in game.
“Seriously”, What am I supposed to do with the dog doo they gave me as traits when they spent my points on my lev 60 ranger? It’s unplayable now and it cannot be reset.
This is what I’m actually worried about. When it said that their system would “try to spend your points to recreate your build as close as it could,” I knew this would be a problem. I don’t want it to try and spend points for me. I want to reimagine my own build on my own.
You people have had weeks, if not months, to absorb this information. This has been well documented. I’m SO sorry you’re minorly inconvenienced for a moment of your life. It must be really hard.
Here’s one I don’t think anyone has linked yet… http://imgur.com/lQDAwyU
As far as what I’d do with these buggers, I’d say since they’re just hatched, why not just gather them all up put them on a ship and send them back to Southsun Cove. Or we could just find them all and cook them? I mean I love crab…. make a big bond fire on the beach and have a luau with karka legs to eat!

You know, I get it that Anet wants us to go look around this map. They obviously put in a lot of work and it looks great, but…
I must be getting old something because I just don’t have the patience for this sort of kitten anymore. I haven’t found a single one of these things that wasn’t posted here. That’s enough of that…
I’ll just wait until Dulfy has the full list.
K, thanks for the heads up
I haven’t made full ascended. I want a reason to.
Get into high level fractals, then you have a reason.
Otherwise you have no reason other than it being a thing to do, and that’s kind of the point.
Ascended gear is for Fractals, end of story. I don’t think it should even be as powerful as it is, but in order to put people through the effort of getting it at all they had to give it something, so 5% is what it gets. This makes it worth putting in the effort for those that care about such things, while making it remain unnecessary to those who don’t.
The only people who need Ascended gear, and I’m not even entirely sure how true that actually is, are those running the highest level fractals who need/want more Agony Resistance, which can only be achieved through Ascended.
RNG is RNG. RNG is always RNG. Statistics only tell you probabilities, not realities. All possible outcomes are possible, so never getting anything is just something that can happen, and does.
I remember Brian Cox explaining, how, as he made a sandcastle on a beach. That there is no Law in Physics that says that that same sandcastle, when blown away by the wind, can’t reform itself somewhere else, in ‘exactly’ the same shape as he made it with his bucket.
Billions to one? Maybe. but purely ‘random’.
Interesting subject. RNG.
I have always followed the assertion that whenever I flip a coin it could come up broccoli.
All of my builds are on gw2skills. I just hope that I’ll be able to convert them based on the old builds before the site redesigns to the new system.
For everyone asking if it’s hard, the answer is always YES. You admit you don’t know anything about programming then just assume because it is an appearing small thing that the effort to make it happen is not extremely large, especially when the technology (read scripts) is not already written into the game. There is no precedence for a toggle that removes the visual of a single item from other players equipment. That means it has to be created from the ground up.
It isn’t simple. Nothing is ever simple just because the visual result seems small.
So quit trying to weasel every little thing out of them and let it be.
I could have said the same thing about people that argued for character slots or gems or any of the other things people were demanding with the Standard edition, but I didn’t. We are having a discussion on the issue. One that I am trying to keep constructive and polite. We are not demanding anything, but some have suggested things. If the issue does not affect you then why should you be concerned about what we are talking about?
The issue effects everyone. It always does. I’m happy with what I got, but that doesn’t change the fact that others trying to change the deal more does effect me. That’s the problem. Someone is never satisfied, and as soon as one person isn’t satisfied people come out of the wood works on the prospect that they might be able to get more. Give an inch, as the old adage says.
RNG is RNG. RNG is always RNG. Statistics only tell you probabilities, not realities. All possible outcomes are possible, so never getting anything is just something that can happen, and does.
You’re a day late to the protest and holding up a picket sign for something not happening mate. Can we put down the pitchforks now and have one week of complaining about the new patch instead. lol
#SABorRiot!
Who else saw this coming?
I think they should come up with something cool to give to people who pay the extra 25 or 50$ in replacement of the extra char slot. Something better than title and a mini but less than or equal to a char slot.
I really think we need to just let it go. You’re getting two slots. You can say you don’t need them, or what them, and while some of you will legitimately not use them, a bunch, maybe even most of you probably will. So quit trying to weasel every little thing out of them and let it be.
Now, given that the ultimate edition is $100 and includes all the items you wanted plus more, I’m not seeing where the basis of your complaint is. You’re arguing that ANet has given you excess value for the same price, and you want less? I’m not sure where you’re getting the $10 savings from.
Base game originally came with no extra char slot, now it does. So 50 dollars then another 10 to buy a slot play the new character if all your current ones are filled and then 50 for 4k gems which is 110 bucks. So I went for ultimate that came with a char slot and 4k gems which totall 100. So now since I am a vet, I get TWO slots; the one I wanted b/c it was one of two versions that had them and now the one I don’t want. If I could sell that slot I would, it’s going to be unused thus in long run I should have waited for Anet to buckle and bought standard instead. DOH!
W/e, none of you bought into the ultimate…I did, so who cares right. Who cares about 10 bucks, it’s no big deal. Just like having no free char slot in original sales which lead me to buy the ultimate because of that advertised perk. I can’t get a refund b/c I have spent 3k gems on harvest tools and unpacked that mini so I am essentially sol. So w/e man, glad you got your way and to hell with anyone else I guess b/c obviously 5 days of complaints is greater than anything I could muster in my defence: you will rip it up, flame, and call me a troll; amusingly, the same antics you guys did since hot pre-order went up….but that’s apparently right and I am wrong. Meh.
Give it some time? There is always the chance you may want to use that slot afterall. Try some key farming, why not?
It’s hard for me to relate. I bought ultimate for the deal, not just the slot but the tchotchkes too. It was the Deluxe for the price of the standard, plus gems. Even if it didn’t come with a slot I would have just used the gems for a slot. But I also have use for two slots, so…
(edited by Kal Spiro.9745)
I’m just confused how the announcement of character slots for vets has anything to do with Ascended in the first place, even if it was getting buffed.
Hope I don’t miss out on the new Karka invasion.
I’m happy with it. I had an extra slot empty and waiting that I’ve been using for key farming. I grabbed the Ultimate Edition and got another empty slot. I immediately filled that slot with an Ele I planned to make anyway. I still have one open slot for more key farming. When HoT releases, though, I’ll fill that slot with a Revenant. Now I’ll have my open slot back to return to the farming life.
So if the people who played $75 or $100 for a $10 character slot get placated by Anet in the form of gems, then what about those people who bought the basic version who don’t need the extra slot, either? Do they get to fixate on the “unfairness” of this offering and poke at Anet until they get 800 gems (gems which can be traded for gold or used to purchase keys that can result in sellable items, thus impacting the exchange rate and the trading post as a whole)?
The difference is the extra character slot for the Standard edition is what most people were asking for. It is indeed a bonus for the people that bought it because what they paid for had nothing at all aside from the x-pac. They didn’t pay extra for anything else. They knew that going in if they bought it prior to today’s announcement. However, people that paid for the upgraded package paid extra for something that included a character slot. We knew that going in. Now we paid extra for something the people that purchase the Standard edition now get and receive something else that we may or may not need and wasn’t advertised as part of the package. I guarantee a lot of you in this thread, if you were in the shoes of the people that bought the upgraded versions would think of this differently.
Also no one is fixating on unfairness. As customers that paid top price for a product we are simply discussing options that would seem more favorable. Much like all the people that have spent the last 5 days arguing for a character slot with the Standard edition.
It may have taken me longer to come to the conclusion, but I’m pretty sure that I would still have bought the Ultimate because it is the better deal. But, like I said, I have use for two slots.
(edited by Kal Spiro.9745)
So we got this nice little announcement from ANet to all the complainers and whatever. I’m cool with it, I’m getting another slot, those are always useful.
But there is a very big thing for me in their date ranges. All of their future date ranges end on July 31st. Those ranges are based on pre-release sales. If it were still possible to pre-purchase after July 31st, why would this goodwill end then? The only conclusion I can come to is that August 1st will no longer be pre, but post-release.
Is this faulty logic? Did I miss an announcement and this is already common knowledge? What’s up?
Am I the only one reading this as HoT release will be August 1st?
Yes of course they should stay exclusive. Am I regretting getting my black wings? Heck yes but those who have it now it’s more rare and should be that way
No such thing as exclusive Gem Store skins. If you can just buy it with cash it will be back around some time.
I think I want the blue SAB backpack again. I had it once but I overwrote it when I got the green backpack because at the time the wardrobe wasn’t a thing, nor ever expected to be a thing. Also the blue backpack was just an exclusive purchase, not any kind of achievement.
I don’t even have a character that I actually want to use it on, I just want it back because I used to have it.
I’m pretty sure that if you got a skin from an achievement, but it’s not in your wardrobe you can put in a ticket to get it.
I got the Mad Memories skin because I had the Mad Memories (Complete Edition) and the quest that gave you the complete edition first gave you the green one. It’s impossible to get one without the other, so they gave me the original green one back.
On the subject of Mad Memories, I think I would be upset if they just started handing those out. But if they put the quest back in during Halloween, so that people could get it each year I would not have an issue with it.

A quick update on this one -> After feedback from presenting the original hero point count – we decided getting to level 80 will give you enough hero points to unlock all the core skills and traits entirely. Doing hero challenges (aka skill challenges) will simply allow you to earn all the skills/traits earlier before level 80. With the release of HoT, there will be options to spend the excess hero points earned from doing hero challenges in the world.
There are a number of other changes on 6/23 to make the experience from 1-80 more exciting, better-paced, rewarding, and fun as well after having the time to evaluate and player feedback from the updates last year.

I support not having to move my level 80s from their JP perches, just to make sure they have all their skills.
Ascalonian Catacombs light pants are leather pants. I currently have them on my Charr Ele and she looks really good.
Out of curiosity, what server did you choose? Megaservers means that servers aren’t entirely relevant, but they still are. The way the algorithm allocates people is to place them with their server population before other servers. I assume in five days you don’t have a guild or a lot of friends, so server is likely to be the largest sorting consideration.
You may just be with a less than friendly group.
I don’t participate in map chat, ever, so I really don’t know how ridiculous people are getting. I know I haven’t seen these kinds of conversations, but since I don’t look for them, who knows. I really prefer to think we’re a more welcoming community than that. But then, based on your description I’d like to think all communities are better than that.
SAB is moving to Lion’s Arch, it’s the new center piece in place of the lion statue.
A guy can dream, right?
We’ll just have to see how it goes.
Honestly I’m not even all that against this being the case. When the core game is being sold for $10, like it was not that long ago, and it’s been three years, it’s time to bundle it into the expansion. It’s just that normally the expansion has also already been out for a while.
Pointless hypotheticals ar pointless. Since that’s not the case it really doesn’t matter.
HoT is the base game now. There is no option to not purchase the base game. The only way to make use of the full value is to make a new account.
Where is this written? Who has made this claim? The ONLY word I’ve seen from ANet on this topic is that the expansion is the price point and the core game is a bonus. Considering we’re talking about a pre-purchase here that would indicate it is a pre-purchase bonus.
The fact that you can’t access the core game from the site doesn’t discount the fact that you can still buy it from anywhere else that isn’t here. Just google guild wars 2 and you’ll get plenty of options to buy.
Right now ANet is trying to sell their Pre-purchase on the expansion. Added to the fact that they are offering the core game as a bonus, they don’t want people who are uninformed and negligent to accidentally buy the core game in preparation to pre-purchase (like most of the people who have purchased the game since the expansion was announced.) Those are really the only people who are getting hurt by all this.
I’m really looking forward to the people who don’t buy it, then when the core game bonus is off the plate for pre-purchase, see the game is still $50, but the other bonus options are also gone so it’s just straight $50. They put up this fight for something they were going to get eventually anyway, and now they’re stuck without option.
If you were not going to buy it anyway, you wouldn’t be here raging. You would have said, simply, “That’s too rich for me, I’m moving on.” And you would have moved on.
Anyone coming to the forums to vent is already hooked. You’re not actually going to leave. You’re not going to hold out for a year or however long it takes to lower the price. You’re going to get it, and it’s going to cost you $50.
So you say, ‘haha some people don’t like the deal but will get screwed (to their opinion) anyway’. Is this supposed to be a defend for Anet?
Because it’s not a really bad defend. It’s like some innocent man on dead row, explaining for the last time why can not possible has done the crime and you laugh at him because he will get executed anyway.
To me it shows for you it purely has become a we vs them fight. Strange.
If you would be a true fan you would want Anet to listen to those complains instead of laughing at them because as much as they might get screwed anyway, Anet will get a worse name by this.. anyway. If things stay as they are that is. That would make it a lose lose situation.
Anyway, I still have no problem with the price while I agree a char-slot in the standard edition, and then something else extra in the deluxe edition would be better. What I dislike the most is not having a CE edition.
If there is anything about the price I would complain about is that as far as it looks they keep going on with their cash-shop model instead of a B2P model. If they had a true B2P model (so nearly no cash-shop but generating most money with the game and expansions) an expansion for $50,- would be perfectly justifiably. For a game that used the model of many F2P games I do understand why people find the $50,- to high. At the same time, I did not hear all of them complain about the cash-shop and you buy 6 finishers for about the same price or a long boring grind.
So I understand why some people dislike it, but if I have any problems it’s on another part of the game.
Sorry, no. Your death row analogy isn’t appropriate. The difference is that a death row inmate doesn’t have a choice to not get killed. He’s stuck. These people have a choice. They could choose not to buy it or to quit. What I’m laughing at is that they made their choice but are railing against it anyway. I’m predicting what their choice is and was, not saying they don’t have a choice.
It’s a prepurchase bonus. When the game is released it will just be the expansion. Pre-purchase isn’t about being fair. It’s about giving bonuses. If you don’t like it then wait until the game is released and everything will be “fair” again.
The problem is this. I’ve been with this game for 3 years. I’ve spent thousands ( over 3k) hours in it. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on the gem store. I love the game.
I feel pretty bad when I see Anet’s recent focus has been almost exclusively oriented towards new players. New players get this, new players get that. Old players? Not a lot.
I don’t mind that HoT comes with a free copy of the core game if you’re a new player. It’s a viable and useful strategy to sell more.
I mind that new players once again take the center stage while veterans that have been with this game through thick and thin, through content drought and bad balance issues are left staring at the sun.
Why couldn’t they have added some nice bonus for veteran players? Maybe give the character slot for free. Maybe give us a unique skin, armor piece, title, trinket or shout. Anything.I’m upset because for a long time veterans have been getting nothing, no recognition for their love and support for the game.
I was part of early access. I only get annoyed when new players get things I can’t personally acquire. Special bonuses that I have no access to at all bug me. As far as I can tell, though, that’s not actually a thing.
So after three years I can’t complain when they’re trying to incentivise new players, especially when there business model is based around people buying boxes and never having to pay anything again. They need a revenue stream, not the Gem Store.
After 3 years I have three years of the game. Living World that won’t ever return, like the Karka invasion. The Mad King’s invasion. The original flight of Tixx to all the cities. The events from Season 1 that may or may not ever become playable. Even if they are ever broken down into some kind of instanced bite sized mode, they’ll never be as cool as the Marionette in all her glory, or a full scale Scarlet invasion. There were a lot of invasions in three years, and new players, incentivised or not, will never share those experiences.
It’s a prepurchase bonus. When the game is released it will just be the expansion. Pre-purchase isn’t about being fair. It’s about giving bonuses. If you don’t like it then wait until the game is released and everything will be “fair” again.

The only difference is that you would have Revenants running around you, occasionally, during events. Gaining the benefit of their buffs and area skills.
Basically, if you want to move forward with HoT see if you can get the upgrade prorated, or whatever. You’re not looking for a refund, you want to pay the difference. It seems like that is an option.
If you don’t think HoT is worth it at the current price, then it really doesn’t matter what you do.
In either case you didn’t lose your friends money. You did all the research, but since this information was completely unavailable until just last night it isn’t like you missed it.

I take issue with anyone stating whether or not it’s worth the money. I mean, no, it’s not worth $50. It just isn’t. It should come with a free slot by default. I got the ultimate edition for value, but I probably would have gotten the base game if it had just come with a slot. And if they added a slot, I would not be upset. I still find value in what I did get.
That said, we only have the vaguest notion of what is actually in HoT. We don’t know the value of the content in the expansion. So to ever claim to know the value of that content is ludicrous.
theres almost 100k ppl subscribed to GW2’s reddit and the most commented threads I’ve ever seen in that subreddits lifetime were in the threads complaining about how unfair this is to a lot of people. The unhappiness is real, forums and reddit are a pretty solid indication of that.. not to mention every map I go to has ppl complaining about this backhanded slap by anet..
Of course there are people that will happily pre-order the 100 dollar version and blindly just accept whatever anet throws at them because they are happy with it..
by all means more power to you guys… but just know that a lot of ppl don’t see these packages as logical at ALL (for vet players) and have the right to complain…and this is not a vocal minority… this is a pretty big majority
I’m unclear by what means you define majority. The numbers I’ve seen indicate that even that big reddit thread constitutes a minority.
I’m not going to try and claim it’s logical. I think they made a handful of missteps. I don’t accept a great deal of what ANet “throws at me.” But I am happy with GW2 as a whole, and I am able to see value in the product I purchased at the price I did. If I didn’t I wouldn’t have.
If you don’t, then by all means, don’t get it. You don’t need to pre-order. You don’t even need to get the expansion at all. It won’t ruin your game. You can wait it out until it’s a price you like more. Or you can not and you can stop playing, it makes no difference because the game is always available to return to.
In game, many are actually very happy with it. I’m seeing a lot of trailblazer titles around and few complaints.
As usual, the vocal minority of disgruntled self entitled players are the ones that plague the forums, and the happy majority stay quiet and content
Wrong. Most people just won’t go ingame anymore because they leave now. Since today there are even at world bosses only a few megaserver instances left. The few people you can see ingame have not bought HoT. The handfull people you find ingame with the HoT title are just some extremly rich or extremly young (and new) players.
The majority of anets customers are veterans and won’t play along with this rippoff. As usual a vocal blind minority raises their voice to play along with the rippoff.
I’m 34, and maybe make 40k a year. I’m neither extremely rich, nor extremely young. I was in GW2 since beta and early access. I left SW:TOR for GW2. I haven’t played the game regularly since they announced that they were re-resorting the personal story chapters. I log on to get the reward, then log back off. Sometimes I cycle through my characters to loot JP chests. I’ve been playing a lot of single player games lately, and will continue for some time yet.
The moment I noticed the Facebook message about HoT pre-order I jumped in and purchased the Ultimate Edition without thinking twice.
Your arguments are invalid.
My only problem is the lack of character slot for all options. It should be default, it really should.
I get why they aren’t, kinda. Since it isn’t an upgrade, but a stand alone product that can be used as an upgrade, it’s possible to make a whole new account and get the standard 5 slots. But so what. Just make the new base 6, woopy-kittenin-do. It won’t hurt anything and it would probably appease most of the complainers.
I agree that if you are willing to pay the base price for HoT at 50 you might as well buy Ultimate for 100 – but I am not very happy with this setup anyway. It’s just plain greedy by Anet. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s clear they really really need money.
My fear is that this is a cathastriphic move though. This will not bring lots of new players to the game. And a huge portion of the faithful core players are being given the finger this way. Will this really lead to a sustainable environment for future gaming?
Also, the phrase “not be available as an upgrade and must be purchased as a full game package” confuses me. All are available with the core game aren’t they? So “no-upgrade” means we can’t add Ultimate to an excisting account or why is the “no-upgrade” used?
Yeah, I don’t get that one either, cause I had no trouble upgrading my account.
Let’s break this down:
4000 Gems – $50
Character slot (800 Gems) – $10
These are a little less specific price wise
Miniature Revenant Rytlock (Most minis are 400 Gems each, some have been less, some more, so 400 Gems is reasonable)
Revenant Finisher (Finishers have fluctuated between 650 and 800 Gems. Because of the prestige and exclusivity I’m going with 800 Gems)
These are unprecidented
Mordremoth’s Bane Guild Hall Decoration (I have no way of accurately gauging what it might go for, so I’m guestimating based on Gem Store prices over all, and saying 800 Gems again)
Heart of Thorns Glider Skin (Skins for single items are all over the place, but back items are pretty solid. 500 Gems makes sense.)
Total Gems is 2500 which come out to roughly $31.25
So $50.00 + $10.00 + $31.25 = $91.25
Heart of Thorns is $7.75
Even if the values I arbitrarily chose are high the total price won’t exceed $19.99 which is what people want to pay for it anyway.
Ultimate is best value.
If the upvotes on the reddit thread “Don’t Pre-Purchase Heart of Thorns” are any indication, that’s a bare-minimum loss of $78k, so far, not including any upgrade packages. So the total is easily over $100,000 in lost sales, just from those who have viewed that thread and voted. It’s not a perfect metric, but people are speaking their minds and voting with their money right now.
Maybe if there was some discussion about the HoT packages and price points, this disaster could have been avoided. It’s not like we don’t want to give Anet our money, but we also want good value. If the price cannot be lowered at this point, at least pad the packages, especially the base one. It’s nickel and diming your customers, when you make them pay $50, then force them to buy a character slot for the new class.
You realize this is only relevant if everyone who upvoted also didn’t and won’t pre-purchase AND intended to in the first place.
Since none of those things can be verified it’s a meaningless metric.
They’re kind of trying to make money on this thing. If they let you buy it with gems they might as well not even bother.
I was going to freak out and demand new players buy the core game for $10 instead of getting it for $0 but then I saw I ate more than $10 worth of snacks in the time it took to make this post and I realized that amount of money isnt really worth whining over. But I have to whine about something to post on the forums so I guess it will be about people whining about the $10 I was going to whine about, which ill do as soon as I wash the cheetos dust off my keyboard and figure out a witty way to do so.
TLDR JUST BUY THE STUPID THING AND GET OVER IT. $50 IS LIKE 4 TRIPS TO BURGER KING AND THE XPAC WILL HAVE MORE CONTENT THAN THAT. NOT A LOT OF MONEY AT ALL.
If you eat that much junk food, may I recommend a good dietitian for you?
I bet that will cost even more than $50 for the first session.
I will personally be happier in my life and my gaming if I never see you in the heart of maguuma. Please do not purchase this. It’s too much for you.
GW2, home of the friendliest community in the MMO scene…
Oh we’re extremely open and welcoming. That’s friendly. This isn’t about being welcoming, this is not listening to the QQing of the people who are already here.
Well don’t listen to it, then? No one is asking you to come into this thread and defend the price and be rude to others. You can express yourself in a kinder fashion, yes? I know you can!
As for me, I’m holding off on pre-purchasing in hopes that they will substitute the base game for a character slot. That will make me happy. Or maybe have it where if you “upgrade” your current account that it will automatically add a character slot.
Well then, I suppose it’s worthwhile that I never defended anything. I’m being no more rude than anyone else. If anyone here thinks that coming and complaining about the price will make any difference or saying they’re getting kicking in the gut, they’re hugely mistaken. It’s just as much my right to say that you’re complaints about the situation are unnecessary as it is for you to come and complain in the first place. And if you don’t like seeing someone say that, then I will throw it right back in your face, you don’t have to come here and read it.
why does everyone say it is 50?
it says 45 euros for me (is it 50 dollar though?)
technically the 100 euro version would be worth it alone for the gem items (finisher 500 gems?, charslot 800 gems, 4000 gems extra)
+ you get the glider skin + guildhall decoration + mini rytlockso if you have use for those items the 100 euro version is definitly worth it
otherwise take the 45 euro version
We’re not talking euros, mate. The basic version is $49.99
If you buy a lot of gems already it looks like the Ultimate package is the best deal because it is $99 but you get $50 worth of gems with it.
That’s what I got. I don’t buy much gems, but they always come in handy eventually.
I just bought it, and tried to use the link under the serial number but it sent me to a page with this error instead of whatever it was supposed to do:

I Xed out the actual key, since I haven’t had the chance to use it yet. Should I open a ticket as well?
