So you blame the game because your computer is not good enough?

Getting dazed/crippled mid jump and falling in Maw/Harpy has nothing to do with rigs but it’s still annoying as kitten.

This certainly begs the question as to why you are mid-jump when getting dazed or crippled? Did they add a timer to that fractal that requires you to jump through everything ASAP?

Take each jump one at a time. Look to see if a harpy is engaging you before you actually jump. There’s really no excuse for jumping when getting dazed/crippled. You know there are monsters there that do it, so don’t jump until they are a) dead or b) engaging someone else.

I didn’t say a thing about skipping harpies. Perhaps it didn’t happen to you, but it’s totally possible to be crippled when you are moving up the stages to engage them. We need to jump to get to them so we can kill them, correct (Unless you’re an Ele and can nuke from a far range.) ? This isn’t a matter of stability. You need to save those and reflects for their knock back attack. But the cripple mid- air makes you fall like a rock. There are spots on those sections where at least 3 of them can hit you at the same time.

Are you implying that only eles have ranged attacks? Cause I guarantee there isn’t a class that is lacking in that department. It still sounds like you’re just not up for the challenge.

I totally understand the OP’s frustration with the camera, and as others have said, that’s why I have more asura than any other race. I mostly like jumping puzzles with 3 big exceptions: Mad King’s Clock Tower, Winter Wonderland, and Not So Secret. Those were designed for complete masochists.

no its not for masochists
just for people who are really used to the GW2 controlls and know how their characters jump and seek extra challenge…

clocktower i failed hard the first time … was still on my main fat norn then

second year it was suddenly sooo easy!

its mostly a matter of practice
like basically everything in life

Winter Wonderland isn’t even hard. There are plenty of standard Jumping Puzzles much more difficult than WW. The most difficult thing about it is the present part, and that is only because of changes they had to implement for it to function the way it does now, and didn’t the first year.

I managed to get up the clocktower one time the first year. Now I compete with myself to get the maximum number of completions in a single match.

Not So Secret is challenging, but there are still more difficult ones out there. It is downright cruel, though, if you’re going for the goggles.

Sorry, what part of your argument is something other than challenge and being good at playing the game?

By all means, explain to me how jumping puzzle elements of Fractals is challenging content and gauges how good someone is at clearing content.

Ok, I’ll break it down with your original post, I guess:

something as simple as a double tap causing you to roll instead of position yourself sends you flying off the edge.

First off, double tap is terrible game play, don’t use double tap. Only dodge with a specific key bind, then you simply can’t do this. So this is about being good at the game.

One misstep on Cliffside with the hammer and the whole party could need to wipe because the hammer won’t respawn.

You are juggling an item that is trying to kill you between five people, a timer you need to pay attention to so that you don’t get stunned/die, and you have to walk a precarious path with obstacles, but no jumping. That is a challenge.

Getting dazed/crippled mid jump and falling in Maw/Harpy has nothing to do with rigs but it’s still annoying as kitten.

The challenge is to avoid their attacks so this doesn’t happen. Try jump dodging, that is a fairly challenging maneuver to most people.

Just looked at the Scythe Staff in the TP

just a heads up about the op’s scythe, if its for a necro the scythe shadow effect on your staff doesn’t line up from the scythe, so it looks kind of weird like 2 scythes but not in a good way, like when armor clips or doesn’t line up sort of. Unless they fixed it, just know it was a big deal back in the day and lots of people got really mad.

now an evil looking guardian or ele, sure would look sick there.

They fixed that ridiculous double scythe bug quite a while back, luckily.

Did they? Nope.

That’s odd. My Final Rest hasn’t had that double problem in ages. Maybe the scythe isn’t fixed? If so, that’s unfortunate.

Yeah, Final Rest is not the Scythe, they’re completely different skins. You can’t use one as a reference for the other.

I was using it as a reference because Final Rest is also a scythe skin and once had the same double effect, until they fixed it a while back. Up until then it had an extra pointy end sticking out a tiny bit below the top of the staff.

In that case, though, if they “fixed” them the same way it would just make Scythe worse, because the effect was always well above the physical scythe blade.

Come to think of it, I think I remember this and making the same complaint at that time.

I regret that I didn’t buy one forever ago when they were so cheap. But they’re almost all sold, that’s why they’re so expensive.

So I don’t know if this is true or not but I remember a friend telling me something about anet having legal issues with Nintendo or something, which was why SAB was not returning.

I hope it’s not true and that SAB returns, but yeah… if that’s the case then I guess I would understand the lack of communication about it.

Nice theory.

Maybe the reason why we didnt get Bunny ears yet is Mickey Mouse?

First Disney ruined Star Wars, now Guild wars.

Yeah… except Mickey Mouse is a mouse, not a rabbit -.-

Nice try buddy.

And it’s not like SAB was incredibly unique or anything. I even remember the first thing I thought when playing it was something along the lines of “am I playing Super Mario in GW2?”

Then you have a very skewed version of Mario in your head. There is about as much similarity to Mario in SAB as there is to Mickey Mouse in rabbit ears… oh, that was the point. Welcome to the point.

Alright, I finally got a good look at it in Twitch and it doesn’t say Super Adventure Box. It’s really sorry wishful thinking. The first word isn’t Super, it’s unclear if it’s three words or four. It was fun hype, but it’s not real.

gotta wait for it to upload to their twitch videos, once twitch exploded about it, they switched quickly to just rubi and the dev, and when it came back, it had a PoI pic plastered over it, so i couldn’t grab one live

Do they have the ability to retroactively edit the video? Because unless they can do that, there isn’t much point in having done anything at all.

There are possibilites. All the text was orange though, personal story would be green.

The only festival that is coming up would be Dragon Bash, but I don’t think that’s it. Once i have the screenshot you can clearly make out, Super Adventure Box.

You can make out an S, an A, and the last word has 3 letters.

People see what they want to see.
And it is stuff like this that leads to raging and whining when it ends up not being what people assumed it would be.

Until we have confirmation what it is we should not go around shouting about it being X.

Of course we should. Can you honestly say, while trolling these boards and telling people they’re probably ultimately wrong, that you have anything better to do? Getting excited for things and ultimately let down is definitely what it’s all about.

I don’t understand anything the OP said. No one cares about your weapon but you. Don’t get a weapon to impress people, because they don’t care. No one would even care if you had eternity. It’s not new, it’s not unique. Yes it’s hard to get, but so what, it has nothing to do with anyone but you and those who got it.

I for one have never looked at a weapons and felt the need to ask the owner about it, but if I really cared I could find it in the wardrobe, then look up how to get it on the wiki. I will, however, comment on a well put together armor, because that’s more than just “I got this hard thing,” it takes style and the effort to make it happen.

So stop worrying about your stupid sword. Just use the one you think looks good.

The source is just the endless speculation in the SAB thread. We don’t know, it is just a logical conclusion based on understanding the process and game mechanics. It could easily be completely false. No one from ANet has ever specifically stated it though.

Customisable ''Sell Junk'' (Do you agree?)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

Kal, the system the OP is suggesting would remember the things that you consider junk. They would be added to the junk category, going forward.(Unless you took them back out.)
I personally like the idea, but I think that the problem Anet would have with it is, “It’s not fool-proof enough”. That is, someone might accidentally mark an expensive item (silk scraps, a precursor) as junk and accidentally auto-sell it. Yeah, it would really be their fault, but Anet tends to want things to be very bullet-proof.
Also there are a lot of items, so this might be fairly difficult to implement, or end up having an unwieldy, hard to use interface.
Once again, I think that this is a good idea. I’m just telling you the problems Anet would have with it, and why they probably won’t do it.(Even though it would be a nice thing to have for most of us.)

Edit: +1 to the Oiled Leather Bag suggestion.

While that sounds like a potentially good system, it’s unfeasible and would be far more complicated to implement than anyone here seems to understand.

Customisable ''Sell Junk'' (Do you agree?)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

So what this suggestion is saying is, lets us spend some period of time going through our inventory in order to right click then left click specific items to classify them as junk so that when we get to a vendor we can sell the junk in one click.

As opposed to the going to the vendor and spending some period of time going through out inventory in the vendor screen and either selecting individual items then clicking sell, or just double clicking those select items, and also clicking junk to sell the junk.

I’m not seeing how this is a time saver, or in any way more productive. Is it because it allows us to spend this minor amount of extra effort in the field when we might be waiting for something instead? Because generally in those circumstances I am waiting to do the thing that will give me the junk, not waiting with the junk I’ll be receiving.

tl;dr, This seems pointless, and just a shuffling of time rather than a time saver.

My advice is, just assume you’re going to fail and save the money for something worthwhile. If you understand that you’re going to be gambling then you should understand that you’re probably just going to lose whatever it is you’re gambling with, because that’s how gambling works. If you can spare the gold, then do whatever you want. But if you’ve been saving up this gold, then it’s probably not so simple for you to get, and you’re probably better off keeping it.

Revenant ventari tablet to bad ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

From what information was provided, I’ll never use the Ventari legend unless there’s weapon swap. A barely-DPS legend is useless in instanced group content with things that have healthbars.

Sure you will. Near-permanent projectile absorb uptime is great, plus you can run DPS weapons and the power-based legend and swap to that when you don’t need the projectile management.

Man, if they add a weapon swap… Just… I picture it being much better than the current situation. Also, Dusk, you are assuming on a power legend that the staff will be the highest DPS weapon… I’m assuming sword will be.

Does it matter? Would could use Hammer, or Axe/Mace. You aren’t restricted to a specific weapon set for a legend, some just flow better. But you also have three trait lines to work with. So you could do one trait for Ventari, One for your power legend and the third to buff a weapon set outside of those legends.

I really don’t understand why people are crapping on something we only know half the skills for and none of the traits for, for a class that we’ve only played a very small amount of in the first place, if at all.

Rework hearts - Make them fun!

Hearts were only ever meant to be a way to lure people near where events occur. They don’t need to be “fun,” they aren’t intended to be main attractions.

LOL

You’re DEFENDING boring content? Are you drunk?

I’m not defending anything. I’m saying the proposed “improvements” have nothing to do with the purpose of the heart system, and I’d prefer they use their time on something more meaningful.

HUH?

Most events have a pretty well-defined script and are not exactly exciting. I would not call them a main attraction!

Then I’m sorry for you, your time in GW2 must be pretty dull, because the dynamic event system and the events that are therefore associated with it is absolutely a main attraction in this game.

Hearts were only ever meant to be a way to lure people near where events occur. They don’t need to be “fun,” they aren’t intended to be main attractions.

If that were true then they would have removed dungeons from the game long ago. Thanks for the input though! People talking about sab is better than people ignoring it. There have been some pretty good suggestions already in this thread about how to monetize sab. The minis, selling W3 as a gemstore purchase, Selling something that lets you always access sab like with the captains airship pass.

Are dungeon so much dead that players dont play them these days? in any case dungeon are part of the core game from release and part of what you buy the base game, not to mention that the basic 8 dungeons are directly involve with the game story removing them will make the story from 1-80 realy confusing.

Man i wish they just put it back i would play sab for hours

Someone must being running dungeons. I’ve never had a very long wait to join a dungeon pug.

Single Player fractels?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Kal Spiro.9745

I personally like having to work with others. There is so much content that is easy to solo face roll in this game that requiring some sort of coordination is welcomed. The whole idea with Fractals is to work together. If you want to solo group content there are lots of dungeons.

COH proved that it is entirely possible to have the same instances available in hardmode for those who want it, and easy/solo for those who want that. It COULD be implemented, and it wouldn’t detract from anyone’s game experience. It’s been a while, but I seem to recall there were also achievements you could ONLY get in hardmode, which would feed the one-upmanship that’s apparently going around.

Sorry, one thing CoH never did was make soloable group content. They made groupable solo content, and difficulty settings, but they never made it so you could take group content and make it soloable.

And that is how it fits into Fractals. Fractals are meant to be group content. It should not be soloable under general expectations of soloable. Being able to solo something because you have a very specific build, or are very good is not the same thing.

Sorry no. ANet has already said specifically that Events are meant to be completed, not failed. Failing intentionally to accomplish something else is exploiting game mechanics and not acceptable.

Miyani and her mystic Toilet should Go!

Kal Spiro.9745

Because the mystic forge is designed as a huge gold sink. Nothing more, nothing less. That and some people really like gambling.

Changing any of this drastically would require alternate gold sinks to get created.

I have yet to manage to give Zomorros gold donations.
Its a material sink.

An indirect gold sink then? When someone buy or crafts 1000 gold worth of weapons to throw in there, they start off with an equity (if that’s the right word) of 1000 gold worth of items and may end up with zero equity.

In that case the TP would be the gold sink and it would only destroy 10% of the gold.
The player would also end up with at least 1 item in the end, so the equity cant be zero.

Ok. One item worth maybe 2 gold or so.

You’re undoubtably technically correct that it’s not a gold sink, but if I put 1000 gold worth of equity into there and end up with 2 gold’s worth in the end, it functions very like a gold sink from where I’m standing.

Personal gold sink yeah, but idea of real gold sinks is to destroy gold completely from the game, but in that case 900g of that 1000g will just end up to other players and still stay in circulation.

Which is what I meant by saying it’s an indirect gold sink. While equity is not gold, it’s convertible to gold. If I take 1000 gold of equity and destroy it then I have lost 1000 gold of opportunity cost.

If your house worth 100k burns down (and you have no insurance), are you not 100k poorer?

Items and materials are no convertible to gold except if you sell them to a vendor for a couple of silver each. Selling them in TP does not create new gold into game and gold you use to buy them from TP is not destroyed from the game.

You seem to be missing the math. Items are worth a value of gold. You are spending 1000 gold because that is the market value of those items. The fact that they are items doesn’t change that it’s possible to get 1000 gold for them. Therefore it is reasonable to say the trade is 1000 gold for 1000 gold. One recipient gains a cluster of items for 1000 gold, the other gains 900 gold for 1000 gold.

If you then flush those items down the toilet you are effectively burning 1000 gold that can no longer be acquired since the items no longer exist. Also, since 100 gold evaporated in the sale itself, even if you manage to come out of the deal with 100 gold of new items 1000 gold still disappeared from the game.

This.

Also, let’s not forget to mention the 15% trade tax on the TP when changing owner of materials, intermediate items and final products.

Some people should think before posting and examine the effect of ingame actions to their full extent. Not just 2 numbers changing between 2 accounts.

Maybe you should double check what you are posting. The mystic forge is not a goldsink but a material sink, its as simple as that.
And if I buy materials for 1000g on the tp, only 10% of my gold gets destroyed by the transaction fee, not 15%. The 5% were paid for by the gold of the seller for listing it.
Materials can only create gold, if you sell them to a vendor, so the vendor value is the potential gold gain, you are sinking by throwing them into the forge.

If you remove the forge, you need a new material sink, not a new gold sink.

And since the materials are worth gold, and you are destroying the materials, you are destroying a value of gold that can no longer be gained. It’s the same thing.

I recommend the “perish” as I did. I deeply regret being a paying customer of this company and I highly recommend everyone else to stop paying, (stop buying gems) don’t take my word for it, experience the pitfalls for yourselves.

I sencirly hope that as a business it is their intention to drive people such as myself and others that buy gems on monthly or even weekly basis to quit doing so. Obviously we do not fit A-Nets target demographic and should be removed from it entirely.

If you’re so dissatisfied why are you creeping around the forums instead of just going. They’re not going to change their setup for you. You’re right. You are not their target demo. You are also not representative of anything save yourself. They don’t need you, so if you don’t enjoy the game then you should find something you do enjoy. Your loss won’t impact them.

You are absolutely right as well, any paying customer whatsoever such as myself is not a part of their target demo, their target demo as a business that wants to make money are obviously the non-paying customers such as yourself. That has to be it. As a business, they make money by not getting paid. That has to be it.

you’re a very smart person and nailed it as it is and pointed it out to us. Thanks, I appreciate it.

What exactly makes you think I don’t, or have not purchased gems? The last time I bought gems I accidentally bought twice as many and even though they were willing to refund the unintended value I just kept them, cause sometimes they come in handy. I’ve purchased many things through the Gem Store. If I find value in an item I’ll buy it.

You are not a special snowflake, nor some kind of mysterious demographic because you have occasionally, or even regularly, purchased gems. What you are is a disgruntled burned out player who is taking it out on the company that presumably has entertained you enough to inspire you to purchase all those gems, but it no longer doing so.

This is why I tried to explain that you are only representative of yourself. Whatever preconceived notions you might have are most likely wrong.

Sorry, I’ve been here since beta too. I haven’t done nearly as much as you, but I don’t care to either. A lot of that stuff doesn’t interest me.

The simple answer, and the only one you should really be thinking about is, do I still enjoy this game. I’ve done everything, but do I enjoy doing it again and again. All MMOs are like this. At some point you will always exhaust everything, and no amount of introduced content is going to change that because it will never compare in time spent. You’ll just burn through it too.

If you enjoy making alts, and running through the content that exists, then you’re good. If you don’t anymore, then maybe you’re done with the game. Maybe you need to take more breaks.

I’ve been plaything through the many single payer games that have been releasing lately. Mostly I’m just waiting for the personal story revision to continue leveling my newer warrior. The beauty is, I can leave and return as I please. It’s no skin off ANet’s back. It’s not hurting them and it’s not hurting you.

You say all the Vets leaving is bad, and you’re right. But just because you’re a vet and tired of the game doesn’t mean all the vets are the same as you. Don’t worry about what everyone else, or anyone else, is doing. If you’re tired of the game, then it’s time to back off and leave it alone. Take more breaks.

Stability Changes were a Bad Idea

Kal Spiro.9745

Old stability is pretty OP, objectively speaking. Stacked stability is better design overall, because you can’t just mindlessly roll through every kind of trap and CC. It means you still need situational awareness while using stability.

However, that’s mainly because stability applies to both knockbacks and stuns. If it were separated out into two boons, with “stability” being ONLY for pulls, knockdowns, knockbacks and launches as a physical ‘steady on your feet’ thing, and that can keep the old duration behavior, while a second ‘mental fortitude’ type skill that stacks like stability does now and blocks fear, taunt, stun and daze, I think that could be balanced well enough.

Then warriors could go back to being near impossible to push around physically, but you could still stun or fear them, while certain other classes would be much harder to stun but could be knocked around. And some current stability skills could provide both boons still.

This actually sounds reasonable and like an interesting compromise.

Personal Story Restoration update

I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this. Under the original system I got up to Ships of the Line and haven’t touched the personal story under the current system. Am I fine to stay there and then when this rolls out will I just be able to carry on the story as if nothing had happened or am I going to get bumped to a different mission?

Similarly my other character got to Temple of the Forgotten God under the old system, are they ok to just stay there?

If you haven’t touched Personal Story since it changed, you will be fine and won’t miss anything.

This is questionable. I highly recommend you log into those characters and check out to confirm which story steps they’re on. If they’re still on the same steps you should be fine. If they’re not, then you might have difficulties.

Please stop making us press CTRL constantly

Kal Spiro.9745

I just have it bound to my thumb button on my mouse, it’s easy. I feel like this is more of an l2p problem than an ANet problem.

Huh? It has nothing to do with learning to play. It’s an inconvenience. It has nothing to do with challenge. It’s about as useful as holding ctrl down to see players/npcs names.

I understand why they do it though, because they actually want people to search for items such as the coins in dry top or silverwastes, but they could actually code those to be ignored by the feature.

What does challenge have to do with learning to play? Being able to rebind a key to something more convenient, like caps lock, or scroll lock, is just as much understanding how the game works as dodging. Like I said, which was my point, I rebound it to the thumb button on my mouse, which made it much more convenient. If you don’t like pressing ctrl, make it something else.

Then don’t use “l2p” which implies that people should be “learning” how to overcome a challenge, problem, or task.

If you want to talk about degrees of learning, such as dodge, there is no comparison between the two. With dodge, you’re trying to evade and survive, with holding ctrl down, you’re trying to view nameplates on objects.

The latter is an inconvenience, and i’ve already explained why they do it. It’s because they want people to find objects as some sort of challenge, but there are better ways of doing it than holding down a button and hiding nameplates.

As i’ve already said, it’s a legacy feature from GW1, but it’s not one that people would miss. They need to make it a toggle.

You missed the point, pretty sure you didn’t even bother to read a single word. It’s still learn to play, l2p, to figure out rebinding as it is to learn to beat a boss or a fractal or wtf ever. If it is an aspect of the game that you have not mastered to make your life easier in any situation, not just a challenging situation, then it is an l2p situation.

No, you’re the one missing the point entirely, but i’m not going to respond again if you can’t comprehend what i’m saying, or refuse to understand.

Rebinding isn’t going to change the way the mechanic works. You will still have to hold a key down in order to see nameplates on objects. You cannot toggle it indefinitely either, even if it’s a macro.

Holding down Ctrl is essential while farming or finding objects in a zerg.

No, you’re right, I don’t comprehend. I have never experienced this situation in this game, and I’ve been playing since early access. Why in the world would you need to have nameplates on constantly, rather than only intermittently. There should be extensive periods of time in which you don’t actually need to see name plates at all, and only brief periods in which they’re necessary.

Perhaps this is an entirely different aspect of play that you’re just making more complicated for yourself than is necessary. Which would fall under yet another aspect of l2p that still isn’t relevant to challenging content.
