6/23: Why is Ascended gear getting stronger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kal Spiro.9745

I know, in three years we should have moved on. Unfortunately, nobody has yet made the game we were told GW2 was going to be.

You must have missed the part in pretty much every MMO that says “Things are always subject to change”

Huh, that’s funny, because I was addressing that in the last line of my post, right above your response. Yes, things change. But even ArenaNet agreed at one point, which flies in the face of your insulting attitude that everyone who disagrees with you is “pathetic”.

You need to stop believing every little freaking word Anet says or really any game studio that develops games.

At this point, I believe nothing of what ArenaNet says. There was a point where they seemed passionate about doing things differently and were a very open and communicative company, however. Of course, it’s easy to be that when the game hasn’t launched, and the money people are giving the artsy people lots of freedom to pursue and share their passions.

THINGS CHANGE. All the time. If you don’t like it, bye. It’s honestly pathethic seeing how much crying is going on because they boosted ascended armor… jesus.
This boost is perfectly welcomed by most players outside of the small minority harping on about anets casualplay philosophy

Look. You may not like it, but any company with any sort of longevity would rather have its upset customers sharing why they are no longer spending money on the service than see them quietly cease to be customers.

Based on a many design choices over the last three years I went from a paying, playing customer to paying less and less, and now playing less and less. At this point I don’t even log in daily to grab the daily reward. With the HoT announcement, I thought that might change, but the character rollback and now this ascended change is making me second guess that.

This forum is the place to let ArenaNet know why. If you don’t like it, bye.

I can tell you have a lot of anger. You might want to get some counseling for that. And by all means, man-up enough to show respect for other people’s faiths not to use their deities as swear words.

Lol, this is the internet, if you feel your faith has been attacked and you don’t like it.. than idk what to tell you. Get thicker skin. Words on a gaming forum really should not upset your faith.. my goodness..

anyways,
This is a forum, I can also freely state to anet that this change seems fine and I’m allowed to freely refute your opinion on this thread about this being a bad change.. theres a thousand other things that are being shaken up and stirred in the xpac… this is probably the least concerning one… you got traits and skills being totally revamped and changing up the meta far more than a 5% boost to stats….that should be the bigger concern..

They probably would have been if we hadn’t known all about it for so long. We had plenty of time to get over it, just as this too will pass.

I think it a great thing. Ascended takes alot of effort to make so the payoff should be reflected in that. It is not gamebreaking in the least and gives players something more to aim for.

Unless they already got it, like so many people have in the years they’ve existed. They just get a buff.

Although, they probably need to remake at least one piece to offset the change in trait stats.

Nor in the expanded patch notes that multiple news sources seem to have. Looks like I’m still not leveling my warrior.

Sorry, I’ve been a bit late to the party and there are too many posts now… quick question, has this been confirmed by ANet? How is it that some unknown source has this information before anybody else?

Not confirmed by ArenaNet as far as I know, but several sites have posted them up saying that they received them from ArenaNet, including Dulfy.

If Dulfy has it, then it’s probably true. It still doesn’t matter, though, and is the least significant news in all that information, next to class changes for builds you don’t use.

Oh man, this really sucks. This makes the gear grind even more necessary than ever. It’s a terrible move to make ascended more powerful than it was previously.

Why? You can still do everything in the game without it.

This doesn’t have any real impact on PvE. This has no impact on PvP. The only mode that has even the slightest concern is WvW, and unless you’re a roamer it still doesn’t.

See, the problem I have with these guys is that ANet posted it here 18 hours ago. But these guys posted what they have only 7 and a half hours ago.

Basically my point is that it would have been no trouble to grab what ANet posted and stick it on the end of literally anything they wanted and called it direct from ANet.

I mean, if these guys are legit, why has ANet not come out with these gems that people have been begging for for years?

BALANCE, BUG-FIXING, POLISH
General
• Added an option to lock the ground target marker at maximum skill range, preventing the marker from being placed out of range.
• Fixed a bug that prevented characters attempting to target Nearest Enemy from selecting a target behind them.
• Item tooltips for soulbound items will now display the name of the character it is bound to if it isn’t the current character.

My greatest fear is that i will move on to another game before SAB comes back and not notice it until many moons later when i take a look back at gw2 ;(

Make sure you’re subscribed to the newsletter and it doesn’t matter, because they will email you when it comes back.

I dont think sab is enough incentive to redownload an entire mmo if i have already moved on.

Then your fear makes no sense. If SAB isn’t enough incentive to return even for a little bit, when why would you fear missing because you’d already left?

I dont understand why you don’t understand.. I like sab and would enjoy playing it. Lets say its a +6 on the fun scale. Redownloading and repatching gw2 for what will probably be a month long thing is like a +8 on the annoyance scale. So what your saying is that if i dont love sab enough to redownload gw2 if it takes so long that ive moved on, then i shouldn’t be sad that i missed it?

So just don’t uninstall the game. Then you can stop playing, but if SAB returns you don’t have to worry about reinstalling it, though, I honestly don’t understand why it’s so annoying to install a game. It just takes a while. It isn’t like you can’t do other things in that time period. Then it’s done and you can play.

I change computers pretty often because i use laptops and just can not seem to stop dropping them, Seeing as how sab looks like late 2016 for release its totally possible that i will have a new laptop by then. Also, fears don’t need to be rational. Why are you always so negative and just not fun to talk to?

That’s your perception, so I don’t know why and can’t really do anything about it. Just an interesting point, that I couldn’t say if you’ve pursued or not. Even if you drop it, the HDD is probably not damaged. It would definitely be possible to transfer it from the old broken laptop to the new waiting to be broken laptop. Then you wouldn’t need to install anything but the drivers for the new laptop, which should be easy enough. It would save you time in general, not just to reinstalling GW2, but everything else you presumably would want to reinstall.

In my experience it is just an aspect of many RPers. Every game I’ve RPed in has had issues like that. The key is to find the open community events. There are usually some around and they allow for better introduction into the community.

my poor keyboard could tell you a thing or two about my outrage. :/

In real life, I have a terrific fear of heights myself. I can fall from a huge height in game and feel my stomach do loop de loops. The funny thing is, I’v found that jumping puzzles are kind of helping me address some of that fear.

Of course, as the old saying goes: it’s not the falling that’ll getcha, it’s the landing!

Unless there is the smallest amount of water, then it doesn’t matter how far you fall, you’ll be just fine.

So far, I think you are the only person I’ve seen that has voiced dislike about the skin… but we all know that beauty is subjective.

Just voicing my opinion on it: the back piece does look pretty crappy, to me. It’s not horrible but it’s hardly uuntarnished by criticism. But frankly, it’s mostly the nature of back pieces in this game. Hardly any are meant to complement a variety of looks but instead meant to show status. The vine back pieces are fine. . . If your Armor look is meant to incorporate plant motifs which can go well with a sylvari who is using plant Armor but hardly much else (not to mention there aren’t that many plant themed armors to easily go with it). There are far more better looking back pieces that aren’t generic themed (like the dream catcher) that aren’t used as often as the bulkier flashier ones meant to show off wealth or status (wing/ fractal back piece). For alk the work I put in to finally get my mawdrey, I’d still transmute a skin over it (but the ascended stats are welcome).

I’d much prefer a more practical back piece skin similar to the quivers, like a Cape or a spare weapon there for show like a crossbow kit or chain sickle that you can add to various looks to differing effect.

Actually, I find that mine looks quite nice on my elementalist who is a human noble and looks it. She doesn’t even incorporate any of the colors, but it works.

Whatever flats your boat. Personally, to me, a noble doesn’t really walk around nature as much as around aristocracy, much less wear nature on their back. My noble-type sylvari uses an elegant bird motif, with gold, jewels and feathers. I’m sure you could make a nice flower motif that works the same angle but finding weapons and Armor that complement the back piece is harder than simply making your back piece invisible.

It isn’t about nature. It’s an extremely exotic pet, considering it’s a sentient vine. If you read the flavor text you get that through the process you are raising a wild plant creature, then the next generation is a tamed plant creature, and the last generation, Maudrey II, is a domesticated plant creature.

how possible is race change in gw2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

Just reset personal story!

Just swap out racial skills!

Just check for race-specific armor and force the player to unequip first!

Just erase standing with your chosen Order!

Just reset your home instance so that it forgets past events!

Just whip up a quick interface for overturning concepts that the game has always regarded as permanent and unchangeable! Wow, so simple!

….or, you know, just roll a new character like everyone has been doing, for years. I get it, losing the map completion sucks. But with all the account-bound items and achievements, level-up scrolls and skill points, GW2 must be the world’s easiest MMO to catch up if you do decide to re-roll.

Like others have said, I would much rather have ArenaNet apply their efforts elsewhere.

If your character is one of your main crafting ones, you’re going to end up spending a ton of gold. Not to mention hard-to-get (or discontinued!) recipies that can’t even be bought, but must be grinded for.

If that’s the case you probably should have realized you didn’t like the race a long time before hand.

My guess is it’s one of the items for the Wintersday Collection achievement (one of the ornaments).

It’s either that or the map scraps.

Ornaments were dictated by the type of chest, not location. I believe map scraps are dictated by location, but they’re not nearly so strict.

Personal Story Restoration update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

Bobby, did you already pick rewards for the restored story missions?
If not, this would be ideal to bring back missing armor skins like the Apostle, Stalwart and Heavy Scale set. The chestpiece of those sets is personal story reward (somewhere in the lvl 40 arc), all other pieces are unobtainable and would perfectly fit as rewards.

That would not be fair for those who already did them with all their characters, since they can’t be replayed.

Those skins would be better given in a PvP track, the WvW skin vendor and karma merchants that have repeated skins already found in other maps.

Something is always unfair to someone. Deal with it. It is a reasonable idea.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

Most games have story based off your class with little to no impact on race, making race change cosmetic. GW2 has story exclusively based on race. They also do not have the tools necessary to effectively edit the story on the fly, as indicated many times. They didn’t get the tools they needed until Season 2, but they’re not retroactively effective. So it simply is not able to be performed. It is also very low on their priorities so it probably isn’t going to be a thing in any time period more meaningful than never.

SAB embarrasses Anet, plain and simple.

It was created as April’s Fools “joke” content, but grew to be more popular than the actual “serious” content (not that I’ve ever taken the dragon story very seriously).

It’s a pity, really. They should give the community what it wants and embrace SAB. It’s the smartest decision from a business perspective.

Case in point: Bohemia Interactive and the insanely popular DayZ zombie mod for their serious war simulator Arma 2. If anything, it gave them plenty of money to make Arma 3. Please Anet, make tons of money off SAB and then give us Guild Wars 3.

False. It was created as a pet project of one dev who had six other devs to help him make it a reality. When it was ready it was presented for April Fools because it was unclear how it would be accepted. If people didn’t like it they could just play it off as a joke. People loved it. That is the real story behind SAB.

Ok ok let me summarize this:

There are two arguments here. One from Donari and one from Ayrilana

Please Read before you answer:

A character with 400 skill points: 200 points from leveling and skill challenges and 200 points from skill scrolls.

In Ayrilana’s argument: ALL these 400 skill points will converted into shards. REGARDLESS of the sources. Ayrilana says you will get 400 shards after patch. You also get 200 hero points

In Donari’s argument: You get 200 hero points and ONLY 200 skill points from this pool becomes shards (which sounds more fair – but to this later)

I ask this question because the reaction to which the argument is correct IS IMPORTANT.
—-
If Ariyalana is correct, everyone should be contend – no need to do anything (which is more fair)

If Donari is correct, then you SHOULD be USING ALL of the 400 skill points. (convert to mats) – why? because you will LOSE 200 skill points. You can’t even just use 200 skill points because you will be awarded ZERO shards.

Have you never purchased a single skill, or mat? I have something to the effect of 400 skill points in my pool. I will get that number worth of spirit shards and then some because I’m level 80, done all the skill points, and purchased every skill, and purchased mats. There is no chance that I have not gone well over capacity.

But, it seems that the answer is yes. It is possible in the current system to short yourself skill points. Only purchasing the bare minimum and using the rest to purchase mats. If you have done that and you consider the loss of those excess points to be a material loss, then spend them all immediately, so that you will be unable to lose them.

If you’re like me and don’t have unused points that are anything more than excess, then don’t worry about it, you’re not going to lose anything.

In that scenario you will have 400 points from being 80 and 120 challenges done. Those will be your hero points. Any skill points greater in number than you get from those will become shards.

Again, not a conversion when it comes to current traits -> hero points available. Look at your level. Look at your challenges done. That is what you will have to spend on the new system. Excess will be a conversion, from skill points you spend at Miyani to spirit shards you spend at Miyani.

So you’re saying I will completely lose all 400 skill points because these are not excess. Meaning I should be spending all these 400 skill points yes?

Spend on what? Why do you NEED to spend them on anything? You aren’t going to lose them, they will continue serving the same purpose they have always served, they will just do it in a new form on a 1 to 1 basis.

Skill points, irregardless of the sources, are converted to shards. This does not affects skill points that have already been spent. Those ones are gone. Hero points are awarded based on your level and the number of skill challenges completed. If you currently have 65 skill challenges completed now, you’ll sit exactly where you are once the update hits.

I highly suggest reading the older article that explains all of this.

I would like a confirmation of this from the devs.

But according to this on a 3rd scenario: I have a character that’s lv 80 with sitting on 300 skill points and done about 20 skill challenges. If I go and do 100 more skill challenges now it will have 400 skill points. Will all 400 be converted to shards?

No, of course not.

This is not difficult to understand, and I don’t understand why you’re getting hung up on it.

You get a specific number of skill points earned through leveling up, this is a specific number based on the current system. You also have a specific number of skill points earned through skill challenges, it doesn’t matter what this number is. Add those two numbers together. That is your base character score.

Now, refund all the skill point spent on skills. Probably don’t refund skill point spent on traits. Since it was possible to get them without spending skill points you can assume those are a lose, no matter what. Take the refunded skill point total and add it to the number you currently have in storage. Take that total and subtract your base character score. Whatever is left will become spirit shards.

That’s all there is to it.

The real concern:

I have a guardian that I leveled to 80 with Pvp Tomes. The guardian did almost no skill challenges, but opened enough scrolls to unlock the skills and traits.

Will I lose stuff I have now because this character doesn’t have map completion?

Probably. If you have done no skill challenges at all you will not have enough points under the new system to unlock every single trait and skill. You will, however, get enough points to unlock most of them.

As mentioned you don’t need to do map completion, you just need to do about 65 skill points. That is the reported number necessary to unlock everything with a level 80 character. The rest, presumably, will get you through the elite specialization when it becomes a thing.

Ohhhh! That is a good place to do it. I didn’t even think of that. I never understood how it could ever be worthwhile cause I couldn’t think of a place where there were a lot of whites running around.

Here OP, if you think it such a bad thing and that they should stop, go grief them by killing the whites before they can turn them into corn golems. I’m sure they’ll be super glad that you stopped their play.

Get Rid of Stacking.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kal Spiro.9745

Stacking is not an exploit, it is a cheese. It is the use of an unskillful tactics to employ maximum damage through minimum effort and maximum chance for survival. It is like using that one combo attack in a fighting game that you know your opponent can’t defend against and doing nothing but it until they die. But in this case you don’t even have to know a combo, you just have to stand in one place.

Also, using reflect to reflect is not unconventional. It is the literal definition of conventional. It is using a thing specifically in the way it was meant to be used.

I’ll concede the reflect aspect. However, Cheese cannot be considered an exploit.

I mean, the very first statement in the first line is me saying it’s not an exploit. That was the point.

The difference between Stacking and the rest of your cheesy list is that Stacking wasn’t intentional. It’s something the Devs probably never considered while designing the game, because they rarely do. They don’t consider the path of least resistance, they always think people will play their hardest and use all their available skills.

The only question is whether or not they care about the results enough to do anything about it. There are plenty of ideas right here to show that there are ways to interrupt it, if not remove it entirely. I’m pretty sure they won’t.

Morfedel:
So using an enemies strengths and weakness against it is an exploit?

First off, faulty AI is not a legitimate weakness. It is an unintended consequence of development. So yes, in this case exploiting that weakness can be an exploit. It’s not, but it can be.

In your Lupi example, you are using a legitemate character ability, doing what it designed to do against an enemy who is using a reflectable attack.
This is an exploit?
No it’s using the built in game mechanics in ways they are meant to be used, in situations where using them is valid.

An exploit would be if you lured Lupi into the wall, and because of a bug/glitch he was unable to hurt you, thus allowing you to AFK auto attack him until dead.

The first uses the game mechanics/abilities in unconventional ways, but not taking advantage of bug/glitches/faulty coding.
The latter abuses faulty codes/bugs/glitches to the players advantage.

IIRC there was a glitch/bug that was abused to get precursors or something. It was discovered and a mass ban took place. This is an exploit.

There is currently a setting in the game that causes you to be unable to move through your target while in combat. I don’t really understand the purpose of this setting, and I doubt anyone actually uses it, but it exists.

If they made it so that, while in combat, it wasn’t possible to pass through members of your group, without a setting to let you turn it off, that would be the majority end to at least some stacking.

I don’t really care either way, that is just a way they could change things.

Hall of Monuments Update?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kal Spiro.9745

if its going to take this long (we are already months in), why not just reenable the HoM rewards, fix the bug at your leisure and when implemented take away all HoM titles/rewards from everyone and force everyone to revisit the HoM to get them back.

That way, folks that didnt do the work in GW1 wouldnt be able to get these rewards back, and in the meantime folks who did earn the rewards can use the items now and when fixed with the minor inconvience of revisitng EotN.

I’ve seen this argument elsewhere and i agree with it. If they are already designing a tool to mass remove things from accounts, just also make it able to remove pets, mini’s, and skins from the wardrobe and turn HOM back on now for the people that need it. (I’m not one of those people btw)

The better solution, though, is to keep it inaccessible and just figure out how to remove achievements on a case by case basis, rather than having to not only figure out how to remove achievements, but also how to remove skins and minis from the wardrobe, and also how to do it such that it also untransmutes any gear that had been transmuted with the skins that were removed.

If this sounds like it could ever be simpler than not doing all that extra work, you really have no concept at all about how programming works.

This is something that the team is still working on, and it has not been back-burnered. We’re sorry for the time that it’s taken to correct this, but as mentioned previously, we want to ensure we do it right so we’re taking the time to research every aspect of the fix.

Okay, another moderator mentioned “Were close, seriously” In an older post, and here it sounds like your still researching how to fix it?

Confused, is the fix found and being implemented, or are you guys still trying to figure out how to fix it.

Ultimately, i’m more interested in an ETA.. 1 week, 1 month, 1 year.. “Close” means nothing relatively speaking.

You’re reading this wrong. Based on this they have the fix, it seems to be functional. They are in the process of ensuring that it actually is functional under all situations, so they don’t make things worse by implementing it.
