Even if he afks through an event, if nothing related to his character participate in an event, pet, some trait, etc, it will not include him in scaling, and he will receive no credit.

tl;dr, afk people do not scale events.

Pretty sure that’s not how scaling is designed. Whether or not people are participating, if they are in the area the event assumes they’re going to participate and reacts accordingly.

Why do you want to be others?

I’m not following this at all. Stealth isn’t a base mechanic of any class. It is a mechanic that is heavily used by the Thief class. The Thief base mechanic is stealing and also not having a cooldown on weapon skills.

What is attrition, and what are you considering it the mechanic of? What do you mean don’t want to absorb hits? I don’t understand that, and also what class do you think this “mechanic” belongs to?

Just because a class is very good at something doesn’t mean they own that thing. It doesn’t mean that thing might not fit another class thematically.

Ultimately, though, the answer is probably because someone will always want everything and want to be OP.

Charr need a rework !

In GW1 there were effectively two kinds of Charr, the casters who were incharge, and the brutes. The casters stood up straight, while the brutes were hunched over. Neither of them really looked like the Charr we have now, but that’s at least more similar to the brutes.

I think it would be cool to have either posture, but in either case for it to be more realistic for physical balance. Charr in GW2 are all front heavy and should be falling over.

I’d rather have a greedy merchant who IS a tactician than a wannabe soldier who takes credit for other people’s work in order to gain position. Kiel has no skills, and has consistently failed at every job she has ever had. Evon, on the other hand, has succeeded and even thrived despite having his wares stolen, his company gutted and his storefront destroyed. He’s doing so well, despite that, that he even stopped charging for repairs.

My preference is to hang out in Hirathi Hinterlands around the Ulgoth event chain. It’s pretty easy to solo most of that chain, but you usually won’t have to. Though the Ulgoth part only happens a few times a day, the rest of it happens fairly regularly.

Edit: Okay I realized that it was stupid to implement the slip feature just like how it is stupid to implement tank healer in an action MMO game, so I would like to suggest a new moderate solution which is: Whenever you move while under the effects of swiftness you slowly degenerate endurance and whenever you use mobility skills you lose a little bit of endurance.

Does this mean that if you dodge twice you can’t physically use a mobility skill? If you can keep swiftness up long enough to drain all of your endurance does it just stay drained or do you lose swiftness, and again does this disable your ability to use other skills?

I honestly don’t understand what the problem is. Why does a change need to be made? What is wrong with being able to do a dungeon fast if you know all the intricacies of that dungeon? I want more options in how I complete content, I don’t want restrictions in how I can complete content. Mobile characters are supposed to be mobile, it’s the design of the character, and that includes being able to dodge twice across the board.

Mobility skills consumes a little bit of endurance, swiftness ends if you run out of endurance.

And it is a problem because it is ruining the way I prefer the game to be played. I prefer game systems to be immersive. Usain Bolt can’t do 1mile dashes in real life so neither should my character. And yes I can make a LFG for “no swiftness no running” but I hate the fact that everyone who will use swiftness and mobility skills, will make so much more money than me.

Ah, so because you personally have a problem with this one thing, everyone should be impaired by it. Sorry, that sounds like a terrible reason to make such a massively game changing alteration.

Re-rolling worth the effort?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

I don’t get this rerolling. Rerolling means you’re going to delete your current character and make a new character that will replace it. In older games this occurred when you allocated stats poorly, or chose the wrong ability, and usually only early on. In GW2 it’s basically only worthwhile if you want a different race. Even if you want a different appearance that can be changed without rerolling. If you want a different stat allocation, or different build those can also be changed without rerolling.

It sounds to me like you want to try a different class. Well, you have five slots, so do that. Make an alt and move on, because why wouldn’t you?

Option 2: Just wait until HoT and try out the Warrior Elite, whatever that ends up being.

Since you were keeping score, it sounds to me that with your apparant lack of imagination, you are the one losing.

Actually, the fact that we keep engaging his silliness, and the thread keeps going, is a kind of win for Dawnbreaker.

Still waiting for the answer on how DB goes about breaking dawn. Hope I didn’t miss it somewhere back in the last two pages.

Well it’s a very long story and I wish I had a board here to make a drawing for you, but I don’t, so I will have to use ascii instead. See, first you have to understand that I don’t break the dawn. I break way for the dawn. I make the dawn happen. That’s how my name is supposed to be understood.

Now, you see, you have to understand it this way. Think that this symbol is the sun’s rays: O, this symbol is me, a warrior with a sword: /, and this is the night wall: |

See, we are all on the surface of the planet, right? So the planet is rotating, and the sun rays are illuminating the part of the Earth which is turned to the Sun. But the problem is, there are night walls preventing the Earth from rotating, so I run around the earth breaking the walls for the dawn to arrive.

O —--> / —-—> |

There are 10 such night walls around the Earth, and each time one of them is aligned with the Sun, it locks the Earths rotation and I have to continue my journey around the Earth to break the next wall so as to unlock the Earth’s rotation and keep it spinning, allowing for the dawn to get to all the parts of the world. It is a very busy job.

I think this might have been confusing but you get the general idea I hope.

Dude… what the absolute kitten? You’re going to put out this as an explanation of your name, but Tequatle is a problem for you? Seriously?

I can't believe Tequatl can fly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kal Spiro.9745

Actually Tequatle operates under real Tyrian physics. In Tyria earth is lighter than air while in the presence of a strong magical field and over water. As a result of their undeath the dragons are constantly in a strong magical field and also count as and contain a large quantity of earth. Since the undead dragons tend to operate almost exclusively around large concentrations of water their mass is negated by this physical property of Tyria.

Do you have a source to backup these claims? Or are you just inventing this as you go?

It isn’t specifically referenced, as far as I am aware, but is the result of observational data. Wherever you find a strong magical presence and water you find floating rocks. That is the primary reason they’re so prevalent in Maguuma. It’s a rain forest, so there is an excess of water and it is very highly magical thanks to the Sylvari and Asura presence as well as just regular background magic.

Putting all the facts together, you see a continuing pattern in which a fantastical phenomenon actually makes sense. This is the resulting theory for a natural law of this particular world. It really is just everyday magic, because in Tyria magic is commonplace.

Chinese server is waiting for redemption

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kal Spiro.9745

I wonder if OP could post the source of his claim that the current active Chinese players is less than 50k. That’s quite a drop from a year ago of 3.8 million.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=851365

Anet already said that this information is false. The numbers presented were characters created, not accounts.
This has been discussed countless times on these forums and others.

K

It still would have been interesting to see a source for the claim of less than 50k players, if there was one in English.

What he’s linking to is the Chinese version of Google, and specifically their analytics page (thank you alberte :V ). It’s showing an overall trend of 94% downward of people searching the game in comparison to last year (with a trend downwards of 2% of the searches still being made on a week per week basis).

While that’s not exactly true evidence of there being less players, that’s a pretty extreme trend of people not searching for the game.

Is it though? I haven’t searched for the game in two years, because I don’t need to. I also don’t tend to search for games that have been out for a year or more, because by then I’m not actively looking for them, I’m being drawn to them by other articles. I don’t need to do searches because I’m following links.

Are people regularly and consistently searching for WoW? It’s still going strongish, so presumably if there is actually a relevant correlation it should be getting a lot of searches, right?

Dragonhunter revealed... meh

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kal Spiro.9745

Kal Spiro.9745

I don’t understand where all this issue with the name is coming from. Unless you’re a Sylvari you’re not a Dragon Hunter. Only the Sylvari could be considered that because their Wild Hunt is specifically to go kill a dragon. Also, I would go so far as to say their Wild Hunt is to kill Mordremoth and never had anything to do with Zaitan, since the dragon they fight in the Dream is a Mordremoth champion.

Anyway, other than that, no one else is a Dragon Hunter. Fighting Dragons is only an occasional past time at best for most player characters. It’s something they do intermittently between being Commander of the Pact, the inadvertent Leader of DE 2.0, and just an adventurer in general. Possibly those that spend a lot of time doing Tequatle might be able to make the claim, but most of us aren’t hardcore about Dragons.

As such the Dragon Hunter is obviously a step up beyond all of the rest of us where Dragon fighting, and specifically hunting is concerned. It’s a perfectly reasonable name, and should be an obvious differentiation.

Some how I fee that Anet just wants it to go away. My only questions is what will they not just open up SAB, since so many liked it?

Well for one there were plenty of people that disliked it as well, especially world 2.

It is also the matter of it simply not being a case of pushing a button and it will magically work.

They also don’t have the personnel available right now to do anything that is not related to HoT. that was their choice, whether or not it’s a good one, but it’s the choice they made. HoT or nothing. The only thing that will be worked on and come out before HoT is skill/trait changes, which are also directly related to HoT because of specializations.

I’m pretty sure that if you’re doing this all for loot, you’re already failing. If gaining things is your measure for having fun then there are much better ways to find your enjoyment. I also feel sorry for you. You really should be playing games because the games are fun, not because you get things in the game.

There should be better rewards for more complex content, but the rewards are still unimportant. This game isn’t about the gear, it’s about the game. It was intended to be about playing the game since max level and a full set of gear capable of doing any content is easy to achieve.

If you didnt know we’re playing a MMO. A big part of MMOs are the rewards. If the game was about having fun and not getting the next big thing or a bad kitten skin you like then there wouldnt be so many skins in the game to begin with.

Its not just about “fun” its the fact that Anet doesnt appreciate the effort we put in their game. It clearly shows when someone with 70 hours has 2 precursors already dropped for them and someone with 3k+ hours playing since launch hasnt even seen a charzooka.

Like I said before, this is a MMO and when it comes to MMOs rewards are huge. Part of that is the way high quality rewards/loot are obtained, which is terrible in Gw2.

Not everyone plays for the reward, some people play as an escape from reality and have learned to make their own fun out of it. I’m personally ambivalent about the rewards, do I like getting good stuff, sure, but I don’t require it to keep playing. I play for my own amusement and let off stress/anger.

I didnt say people play for loot. I said that loot is a huge part of MMOs weather you personally play for loot or not has nothing to do with it.

It has become a huge part of MMOs, when I started playing MMOs it wasn’t at all. It was just a thing that happened. The purpose was to exist in another world, not to run around randomly in the hopes of acquiring some special thing.

That has been the gradual “growth” of MMOs because of the need for constant gratification, a diminishing imagination, and excessive materialism.

GW1 is only better to those people who started with it. It is old and has issues. If you’ve been playing GW2 for a while, you will probably have trouble with GW1.

Personally I wish I didn’t dislike GW1 so much, because I really want the HoM rewards, but I can’t bring myself to play it.

It has been confirmed in this thread that it is coming back.

It has also been confirmed by my weather rock that it is going to rain. That makes it totally reliable, right? I mean, it’ll rain eventually someday, right?

Does your weather rock specifically control the weather? Did your weather rock create the weather in the first place? Is the weather contingent on your weather rock? Because all of those things are true of the relationship between SAB and ANet. As such, when ANet says it will be back I would say it is far more meaningful than whatever your rock has to say on the subject of weather.

Then you have obviously not spent enough time on these forums. People will complain about anything. If they announced that SAB was going to be permanently opened the forums would be full of people complaining that SAB is stupid and detracts from their enjoyment of the game because it doesn’t make sense. There are a whole slew of people who find SAB to be immersion breaking and can’t stand the idea of other people who enjoy it being able to play it.

I’ve heard this several times before, but the number of players who’d be angry about SAB having no new content is a fraction of those upset, right now, that it isn’t here. They certainly wouldn’t boycott the game because of it, which people are already doing because of the broken SAB promises.

If you want proof, compare this thread to the reactions to the repeat Wintersday or Halloween content. All people did was grumble a little about the holidays for a month or so. Whereas this thread has been pure disappointment and even hatred for over a year.

No matter how you look at it, it’s in Arenanet’s best interests to just bring World 1 and 2 back if at all possible.

Because Wintersday and Halloween come back each year? And are only active for a month?

So what you’re saying is that people complain constantly while it is active, then stop complaining when it goes away. Since it comes back again as expected they don’t have a reason to start complaining about that.

Seems like this is more evidence that I’m right than that I’m wrong.

Not really. The bottom line is the reactions to recycled holidays aren’t nearly as bad as how people are feeling in this thread. So bringing back SAB, even worlds 1 and 2, would be to Arenanet’s advantage from a PR standpoint.

How not really? I have seen just as many people threaten to leave the game for other random nonsense that “breaks their immersion,” as I have in this thread over the ICC. They simply don’t do it for as long because there is no cause to when those things don’t continue for two years straight.

The simple truth is, they don’t have the personnel, nor time to spare on it. They can’t even do what they need to do to fix the HoM so that people can access it again because of HoT, they definitely don’t have the resources to make sure SAB works.

It makes sense to be here if you miss sab or want to talk about ways to bring it back, but why are you always here arguing against it?

There is a big difference between arguing a point and arguing against a situation. Telling people that ANet doesn’t have people available to do something isn’t the same as telling people that you don’t want something done.

Also, every time I post, regardless of what I say, the SAB thread is bumped to the front page. That’s what actually matters. I support SAB, just look at my sig, of course I do. I just try to be reasonable and look at the situation from every available angle, not just my own bias.

The Asura Aren't Rats

Asura aren’t rodents of any kind. Nor, for that matter, are they earth creatures, since this isn’t earth. We don’t have skelk, skale, dolyaks, grawl, griffons, trolls, ogres, charr, so many species that don’t connect to earth creatures. Why should Asura be unique in that regard.

Asura are Asura, that’s all. But they’re not rodents, they have full mouths of sharp teeth. Rodents have chisel teeth in front, then nothing to the sides, and possibly molars in back.

If you want to make money, sell everything you find. If you want to progress fast and be self sufficient salvage everything you find of blue or higher quality. Do not buy any traits, ever. It’s a waste because they system will be changing in the future. Feel free to ignore dungeons until later.

When you do try your hand at dungeons and eventually fractals use LFG. Look for friendly types taking all sorts, and always announce up front that you’ve never done it before.

Don’t commit to a character until you’ve had a chance to play with it. It’s highly recommended to jump straight into PvP so you can run around with a level 80 and test out all the weapons and skills before committing to anything.

It isn’t that big a deal to delete a character. There is very little that is bound to the character such that if you deleted it you would lose it forever.

If you’re into appearance options, make three of each class choosing each of the three visually distinct options then delete that character just to unlock it for all characters.

Do map completion on all 6 of the main cities for easy levels. When you finish you’ll be very close to level 10, which is when you can do the first part of your personal story.

Choose race based solely on aesthetics

Human Ranger, first made, first played, first choice. Sorry, I don’t have a sob story of being replaced. The others got their attention, the elementalist got assigned first dibs on dungeons, but I’m still the one that gets first dibs on everything new. Will I be adventuring into the Heart of Thorns? No… The newest, youngest Sylvari Warrior gets to do that. Am I bitter about it? Pff, no. I’ve seen more than all these alts rolled together and getting some time off is fine by me. I get all the rewards of his efforts anyway.

Besides, he’s only getting to be part of the story, once it comes time to collect all the achievements, then it’s my time to shine. So, to all you sad sacks, get over it. Your “puppet master” is obviously not dedicated enough, or mature enough to support you, or you might just not be any good. Too bad for you.

Ascended Gear and Specializations

I honestly don’t see the problem. There is no reason at all to change your gear. Just save up laurels, which are easy to accumulate, and buy new jewelry. If you’ve been spending them on T6 mats consistently, then maybe it’s not easier, but I tend to suspect it still is.

Laurel accumulation is very slow when you’re talking about getting 5 ascended trinkets for each of 8 characters.

Well there is your problem right there. I gear my main. The rest of my alts can go kitten themselves. They get exotics and they’ll like them.

I think the biggest question to be answered:
How are we to regain the 30% condition or boon duration. Currently the only way to increase condition duration from gear is giver’s weapons yielding a maximum of 20% additional condition duration. And as for boon duration, I think it would take a full set of giver’s armor to even reach 10%.
These are hardly something you can just swap out 1 or 2 pieces of gear to correct for.

We’ll just have to see what they do with those stats as far as increasing gear values.

You can get 55 laurels every 28 days. You will eventually come to a point like all of us where you have no other use for them other than to convert them to gold. Doing achievements also nets you laurels although it’s not really worth actively doing.

The problem with that is do the math on getting enough for all the ascended recipes you want to make for your alts and a set of ascended jewelry for each alt – let’s say the alt number is 8 (one of each class, which is common). That is too long a time to reasonably gear up for these items.

Let’s say you throw out ascended recipes altogether. That’s still too slowly to reasonably gear up each character with 5 trinkets each.

The old method was 1 day completing dailies, and 10 a month completing monthlies. That’s 41 max, so you’re still better off in the current format.

People keep posting about this gap between the end of LS2 and the next big thing, as if ANet doesn’t worry about the same thing. You think they want people to be twiddling their thumbs and get bored?

Either they have stuff planned and it’s not ready to talk about or they just have everyone tasked on unexpected-but-urgent issues for HoT and the overhaul of the trait/skill system.

We all want new stuff to do, but that requires diverting people from working on the Big New stuff. If it comes down to a choice, I’d prefer they continue to focus on the big picture: HoT and specializations.

That’s interesting point. It isn’t only HoT they’re working on, there is also the major overhaul of the system. Once the new spec system is released they might have people available to do non-HoT things.

over the course of 2 t6 dry top runs tonite, our map found 6. it was a capped map, so around 120 people. i dont remember how many of us got them from wiggly chests, but it wasnt all of us. minimum 3.

in 1 t6 dry top run, 1 zergling completes about 25 events.

25 × 120 × 2 = 6000 event completions. we got 3~6 beta portals from 6000 event completions.

SO. drop rate is approximately 1/2000~1/1000, or .05~.1%, from dry top wiggly chests. assuming our sample is typical. i would believe any number from .01% – .5% without more data. cuz thats a pretty small success rate, even though it seems like a pretty decent sample size.

and this simple, quick calculation is of course ignoring magic find altogether.

edit: and of course im also assuming everyone who got one showed it

edit 2: sounds bad. let me put that in a bit better perspective — at .1% drop rate from wiggly chests, your expected farm time is 40 hours. of t6 dry top.
i would say event credits come even easier in sw, and dont have reason to think the drop rate would be different.

Erroneous data is erroneous. Your data requires that all announced finds are real and that all finds were announced. Neither of these is guaranteed, therefore your data is meaningless.
