The “tactics” part is where this falls short. Any sort of military force that could take DR would have to leave Ascalon, cross the shiverpeaks, then all of Kryta, then assault DR.
That’s a very long trek, with a LOT of hostile forces on the way, even assuming the Lionguard, Vigil, or Norn don’t try to stop them.
And even then DR’s walls are akin to Ebonhawkes, and we all know how long it took the Charr to breach those… Charr can’t afford to deploy such a force with the ghosts, orges, flame legion, branded, and other native threats in Ascalon.
edit: Oh god, and the supply trains/logistics would be hell.
I mean, I recall talking to an NPC and mentioning that RIGHT NOW the Charr have trouble at times supplying the outlying warbands/forcings with ammo/the latest weapons.
Imagine that, only stretched from Ascalon to almost the western edge of kryta?
(edited by Kalavier.1097)
SOME people know about DSD, or suspect it. However few in the public do.
An npc in the priory explicitly goes “Five races vs 6 dragons…”
Logan (I’m unsure if it’s posted here) may be so defensive about Jennah because he feels like if she dies/gets wounded, then he left DE (causing Snaff to die) for nothing.
While it’s not stated as such, it’s a very likely thing.
Also “That up that fight?” You mean against the Charr? Which is over now? :P
That’s about the only post searing time when he ’wasn’t mad’.
I shall mention the fact he was perfectly willing to arrest the white mantle Ambassador, try him for treason and (most likely) exacute him.
For what actions? Being a Krytan and offering aid. Blowing up at Rurik for suggesting they go to Kryta to regroup and gain strength at the least.
As said, his strange calmness could simply be exhaustion both physical and mental as of that moment.
Either way, the Charr would basically be forced to march an army to DR by method of the shiverpeaks and then through all of Kryta.’
A lengthy march, and highly dangerous. It simply isn’t worth it.
Well, one hatched into a baby dragon at the least… :P
Adelbern mostly seemed calm at the post titan mission, but that could be taken as being exhausted from the fight.
Otherwise? Yeah post searing he was definitely unstable mentally.
Glint is obviously a real dragon and not a construct, you know, as the fact she laid eggs which hatched.
Yeah. Because they mentioned Shatterer as Kralks Lieutenant, and there was one Shatterer at a time.
I’ve not heard it referred to as such for other dragons as far as I know.
I think the “Lieutenant, one at a time” thing made have been changed.
Because there are many claws of Jormag, and the dragons in Zhaitan’s service, yet both were called Lieutenants at one point IIRC.
Anything Mad King Thorn related also can be tossed out of the realm of normal necromancers. The man has candy corn elementals, he was not sane at all.
Again, most of the undead in GW1 proph were skeletal, not zombies. The giant zombie, grasping ghouls, and the one monk type that was chained and floating are the only ‘zombies’ I recall seeing.
Everything else was skeletal or almost entirely skeletal.
Also, undeath and decay can often go hand in hand. Is it so crazy to think of him as both?
Jormag is called the “Elder dragon of ice and snow” for example.
Glint may be more like the ‘crystal’ dragons originally were (If the dragons had distinct types before Elder dragons came along).
Shatterer simply seems to be a construct of rock, earth, and crystal.
An option also is that he simply was crazy and wanted the Vanguard out of the picture since it was obvious some people started questioning his rule of the remains of the nation.
And since the Vanguard was so popular…
So the word Undeath by your definition means reanimated?
So liches who never died aren’t undead?
In most cases, yes. As for Liches, they are oddballs almost all of the time. Also with the whole “Their soul trapped in another object which brings them back if their body is destroyed” means they can ‘die’ then come back, depending how lich-hood works for a setting.
In the case of Risen, yes, they are undead, but also corrupted. You don’t cast a spell and get a Risen.
The undead from Proph are distinctly different from the Risen in GW2. The Undead plaguing Kryta were almost ALL skeletons or skeletal. The risen never, or hardly appear as just skeletons.
edit: I was talking about semantics really. I view Risen as undead, just a specific type.
Liches? Again, depends on the setting. Each setting has their own rules and details.
I don’t look at the personal story/living story as much as the world and characters and detail.
Which they’ve done an awesome job at IMO. Especially how a number of GW1 major spots are still around in some form, like Fort Koga or Piken Square.
Sigh. this topic was done in human section, it won’t happen because Humanity doesn’t have the strength to wage war against the Centaurs and the Charr at the same time, much less hold or defend Ascalon against the threats native to the region…
Charr, at the same time, likely don’t care to add another large region to their holdings that is complete with native problems as well.
edit: Indeed, if Jennah did suddenly turn kittened and waged war against the Charr despite the dragon threat and the peace treaty SHE freaking started… the Charr would likely just do defense actions as they really don’t have the means to deploy a large army where ever they want, because of ghosts, brand, and flame legion. They cannot afford to leave themselves weak to any of those threats, or local threats like ogres.
(edited by Kalavier.1097)
Because Zhaitan’s breath is noted to instantly turn people from alive to risen.
Also, as I recall, his corruption in the one Krait lake caused all the things there to become Risen, living prisoners included.
It’s not undeath if the person skips “dying” and goes straight to being Risen.
Logan’s chances of getting a date/girl is limited?
Walk around DR, plenty of women gossiping about him. Even some men NPCs tired of hearing the women talk about him.
I’ve explored 100% of the shiverpeaks with one character, probably 2 or nearly 3.
Yes, around the lodges some do, but not an overwhelming majority. They love their beer but they don’t drink it all the time or become drunk 100% of the time.
Also, as I recall, the only areas with explicitly “passed out drunk” Norn are around two bars, and also include some from other races (for at least the one), and it’s the basis of the heart. Otherwise… nope.
Also, HOW are GW2 era norn different from GW1 era norn? Charr had advanced culturally… but I don’t see how Norn are so different perhaps then being more friendly to other races.
Now they are the same height with the horns making the charr taller.
That must be a small norn. While Charr are taller than humans, Norn are still taller.
The Charr is saluting, which makes them stand fully upright.
Normally that Charr would be shorter :P.
While it is true you can also argue that since there is war there are also a lot of orphans. Those orphans have probably have a higher chance to become a bandit. If such child would be adopted the lickelyhood of those childs becoming bandits are becoming smaller. So as long as they adopt a child or two they should be fine, since they make the bandit army smaller and the Krytan army bigger .
NPC in DR actually comments on the increasing number of Orphans coming into DR because of Centaur raids killing their parents.
In one of the living story segments of my female human, it was suggested by several npcs I was there as the romantic fling of a certain female npc. It’s just one of many examples where I don’t see there be any particular stigma regarding same-sex relations, which is refreshing.
Female human noble (My necro), there was some very obvious flirting from Anise, or hints of it from other npcs as I recall.
Charr are described, IIRC, as basically being the height of a human + half an average human’s height.
So that could mean…8-9 feet tall.
Norn average at 9 feet.
I see nothing to indicate Norn are drunk everywhere. In Taverns and bars, sure, and in the cities.
But out on the field? I hardly see any who are drunk. Hell, even in Hoelbrek there are huge numbers of Norn who don’t come across as drunk at all outside of the bars…
I see. So Thad’s words are canon, eh? So why weren’t the Bloodstones created by the gods again? Oh right, it was in-game human perspective. So who gets to decide which things he says are in-game reality and which are in-game speculation? Oh right, GW2 devs do.
Your amount of willful blindness is astounding.
And your refusal to accept ANY change is as well.
Norn average at 9 feet.
Kodan are stated to be ten feet tall, and my max height female Norn Guardian is just slightly taller then a Kodan ingame… so I’d say 10 feet+ for Females, Norn males can possibly get a little bit bigger.
Confirmed on that. Guild wars 1 wiki even says that.
So yeah, the backstory of the world is presented from an in universe, HUMAN perspective. Shocking it might be wrong in parts about the Charr side?

I’ll simply put this forward, AGAIN. Since Obsidian seemed to ignore it.
The “History of Tyria” from the manuscripts/manual, is listed as being written by a canon human. Like how a number of manuals for video games were approached in an ‘in universe’ manner, obviously the game mechanics parts can be set to the side.
But the history part? yeah, it’s canon to be written by a human post searing.
As I recall, most fighters who value agility/speed over purely strength also tend to go down very quickly to pure strength fighters IF the strength fighter hits them. Least in storys/movies :P
Charr seem the type with balanced agility and strength, Norn though can be a bit more varied (but major strength typically is always there in comparison to humans.)
Number of Asura (especially in the remote areas/far from home) have Skritt aides/messengers/helpers.
Not entirely crazy to think of one having a Skritt ‘pal’ who while ‘slow’, helps out.
- How much is actualy known of Logan’s heritage? And how much is true?
That he’s the descendant of Gwen Thackeray is all that’s presented, incidentally enough, though he considers himself Krytan (and, I believe, did even before meeting Jennah and joining the Seraph).
IIRC, he was part of Ebon Vanguard before he joined with Rytlock and Caithe (or.. more true, they all joined together). His brother was part of the Seraph, but it wasn’t until his brother died to branded at Ebonhawke he officially joined the Seraph and viewed himself as Krytan.
Maybe not in the warband, but they could probably easily get away with calling it a guild.
Confirmed on that. Guild wars 1 wiki even says that.

It says that your point isn’t always true.
Any general rule already allows for the possibility. pointing out an incident where a 10 year old severly hurts an adult doesn’t disqualify the general rule that an adult will tend to be able to beat a10 year old.
Exactly my point, thank you Dustfinger.
“In general” never means “Always true”.
3) Mesmer magic.
You cannot effectively pretend to be an icebrood for long periods of time.
There is a heart that has a Norn pretending to be a Son of Svanir though.
He isn’t trying to be any sort of high ranking member. And himself and the OoW hideout nearby both admit that it’s an EXTREMELY dangerous task as I recall. One in the hideout almost gives his actual name but then stops, simply as another safeguard for the guy.
However, CHIPS said “All levels”, which means high level sons of Svanir, who ARE icebrood (or partly icebrood).
You can’t pretend to be half icebrood.
Kralk killed glint…………
Norn view the human gods as the “Spirits of action” as I recall. One Charr myth is that Melandru created the world.
Other races acknowledge the human gods, but don’t worship them.
Only, Lyssa doesn’t have the power of resurrection, or at least it’s not in her ‘realm’. That’s Dwayna and Grenth.
Before Grenth came to power, resurrection NEVER happened.
The Ritual is (from what I think) more about grief then actually bringing people back to life. Because the Priests always refused.
The Risen always shout doom style lines, it’s to demoralize the Pact.
IIRC, wasn’t that plaque datamined and found as a cool reference to players?
I don’t recall it ever actually being placed ingame yet.
Well, according to wiki timeline, 1325 is personal story and the very begining of the living story. 1327 is when she attacks LA (I think all the events after that one break, so Marionette on IIRC.)
So if Battle of LA, in canon takes place early 1327, one could say it’s only been a year since she first appeared at the Jubilee.
You talk directly to an avatar of Grenth (The seventh reaper, to be exact).
The gods are still alive, just withdrawn. Considering they left Arah a long time ago, It’s doubtful Zhaitan has ‘eaten’ any.
IIRC, the Dream simply showed a possible future. Not the complete picture.
To your Point 1: They haven’t even ‘tried to fix it’ let alone failed to. They haven’t touched it because of the issue of story progression.
To your Point 2: It’s been stated that ArenaNet will not do phasing of zones. They will not have an “uncleansed Orr” and a “cleansed Orr” for two reasons: 1) it separates playerbases, 2) makes the Living World concept pointless.
Not to mention I’ve heard other games which do it makes it really stupid (WoW).
I’ve heard WoW literally separates friends and parties because of the instance/area phasing, meaning you can’t just run through and help friends do it, because they are in a different phase.
It’s why adding a new zone to Orr which represents them pushing the Risen back would work best. IE, in the mountain/airship flying part of Arah or in the Mountain/Mountains north of it (I always forget if it’s one giant mountain or a lot of them in that area…).
As I said in previous post, maybe a heavily secured Pact fortress, working at forcing the risen back (Possibility of a new dungeon being the dragon champion lairs? Or if they ‘nested’ together being that…), with POI or skill points being fallen dragon champions defeated in the air, that fell into the mountains.
That is, if they do things further in Orr, which may or may not happen in the near future.
Get used to it, they have flat out said at a panel when asked, “There are just to little people who play Charr for us to give resources too”
Source? Part of the reason I ask is because I see plenty of charr characters running around Vigil keep :P.
(edited by Kalavier.1097)
A: Norn
B: Trahearne doesn’t steal glory or credit, so frankly, a Norn would have no reason to kill him in the first place. By that point, even less so.
C: He never acts as if it’s ‘his story’. Pay attention in the actual missions.
D: The ritual also required the sword he used as I recall, and it was his Wyld hunt to cleanse Orr. So yes, it’s likely he knew the ritual and few others did, much less anybody ON THE SCENE.
E: Tengu have, LITERALLY even when LA was safe and sound, threatened to shoot people coming too close to the gate. That’s why they had the guards there warning people off. During the battle there is a drill nearby and the dredge rush the wall over and over, so they simply were keeping anybody from getting close to the wall and maybe using explosives.
I don’t see how the Sylvari are being shoved everywhere like you say, or how they are so “Boring and dull”. Note this past LS arc there was not one Sylvari hero named.
Rubric, Commando, Stalwart, and tribal (or voodoo as some call it) were the only PVP only sets I know of. Heavy actually didn’t have a PVP only set.
And that means… what :P.
Also, expanding what Konig said, that’s why a chunk of their tech is sonic based, and IIRC, one heart has them actually having one way/two way radios :P.
I think they are the experts in sonic tech in the world, compared to Asura (magic tech) and Charr (normal tech).
I think “good” Krait would simply be isolationist.
As in, they don’t attack others or invade, but they don’t let anybody get close. Maybe not “Kill on sight” but more “Hey, leave buddy. If you continue we’ll start poking you with our sharp objects”
Course, IIRC, Krait and Naga aren’t related at all, but Naga used to be good until the Jade wind happened (I forget if it drove some leaders insane or simply reduced their population enough to the point they got paranoid.)
Hard to blind somebody who doesn’t rely on their eyes most of the time?
Course, can say their eyes are just squinted/narrowed a LOT. Why would blind people need torches/lamps?
As said, they are not blind. Nearly blind with poor eye sight, but they can see.
Or introduce a zone more in the mountains of Arah/Orr, maybe have some PoI/skill points being fallen dragon champions with the Pact having a more secure fort in the area :P.
(edited by Kalavier.1097)
Is it not in the wardrobe? It was shown in the wardrobe tailor and I’ve seen the commando armor in there for medium…
