For Ranger, spend your points on unlocking “We heal as one” – it’s probably the best heal for both you and your pet in the game. For Guardian, I’d split it between signets and spirit weapons – early on the pet-like mechanic of the spirit weapon can give you an edge, and the signets are generally decent. I run a guardian for key runs, and normally get the first couple of signets and then the spirit sword thingy. (I also have a full level 80 Guard/Dragon Hunter that is my scribe, and still regularly run one of the signets on him).

My 2 cents:
1. Yes.
2. Marshaling his resources and strength?
3. Not necessarily. What if his light was dimmed by the other gods because he chose to stay behind? Or, what if what forced the other gods to leave is/was what caused the dimming? Or, what if all of the gods are kind of like different facets of the same gemstone and Balthazar was dimmed by the other gods leaving – essentially all of the gods are connected and the departure of the others weakened him? The corollary being that his staying behind weakened the others, though not as much as he was weakened.

Why yes, yes there are some things that I just Will. Not. Do. Regardless of the cost.

In general, the HoT maps (and Living World Season 3 maps) are less forgiving for solo play. Especially at first. In HoT you have Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, and Dragon Stand. Each map is based around a map meta event. You can run around solo on these maps and do some events and things, but the larger events are going to require more than one person to do. Some of the Hero Points are simple “commune at the place of power”, some have veterans or champions. At first, you’ll find those nigh impossible solo – later on, you’ll learn which ones can be soloed and which can’t.

Breaking the defiance bar is IMPERATIVE in HoT. Learn your hard and soft CC skills. Breaking that bar almost universally results in a stun, and a much easier, shorter fight. I can’t stress that enough – CC’s are hugely important in HoT…and almost ignored in central Tyria.

Since you mentioned you play a warrior, my main is a warrior and I normally run around HoT with Headbutt and Fear Me for skill slot CC’s (and headbutt for adrenaline – always open a fight with it!), Greatsword, and either axe/mace (mace 5 for a big CC) or mace/shield (mace 3, and shield 4 for CCs).

In a lot of ways, I have more fun on my power reaper than just about anything else. I’m running full marauder’s gear and VERY seldom go, or even need to go, into reaper shroud. Most of the time I run solo and have been able to solo night time champions in Bitterfrost Frontier, along with some of the champs in Tangled Depths. You can still get killed, but it takes quite a bit to get it done.

Solo build for mesmer

I’m still rocking the soldier’s gear from the instant 80 on my Chrono. All Soldier’s armor with Superior Runes of the Mesmer slotted. Back piece, rings, and Trinkets are all Soldier’s with Exquisite Beryl Jewel’s slotted. Weapons are Soldier’s greatsword with Superior Sigil of Force and Superior Sigil of Accuracy, with Soldier’s sword with Force Sigil and Minstrel’s Horologicus – instant 80 gave a Soldier’s Pistol with Accuracy sigil in it. As for build, I’m running Domination – 1, 1, 2; Inspiration – 3, 2, 1; and Chronomancer – 3, 3, 3.

Spend 95%+ of my time in PvE and while I can die, I’ve also solo’ed a couple of champions with this build. Being able to drop a gravity well, continuum split, and then gravity well again does wonders for that breakbar on champs that aren’t running all over the place.

Honestly, it’s been a while since I looked at my build, so I probably need to double check that I don’t need to adjust it, but this works really well for me for solo roaming everywhere – Central Tyria, HoT, and LWS3.

1. Maybe yes, maybe no. Central Tyria hasn’t changed all that much. But the UI has and most assuredly your build will have. Also, leather prices…suuuuuck, they are extremely high. Like 30+ silver for a single hardened leather section.
2. Yes. Living World Season 3 is locked behind HoT, but just logging in while each episode is live unlocks it on your account. So when you do get HoT, those unlocked episodes will be available for you – but any you missed will have to be purchased.
3. Not enough info. Depends on your system, you’ll have to give it a try.
4. Heart of Thorns introduced 4 new maps – Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, and Dragon Stand – and the new mastery system. HoT maps generally are organized around a map meta event. And the jungle, like REAL jungle, is out to kill you. Expect a VERY steep learning curve. You are going to die. A LOT. Learn your class CC’s and learn to use them – breaking the break bar on everything that has one in HoT makes life much easier, and in some situations is mandatory – killing Vinetooth Prime in AB won’t happen without it, for just one example. The same goes for LWS3 maps – and there are 5 of those so far.

Good luck, and welcome back.

Best usage of salvaging for crafting?

I seem to get a little more materials using Fine kits on greens and below than I do with basic kits. Master for rares and exotics – unless the exotics have a sigil or rune that I want (like superior rune of strength), then I use a black lion kit.

Also, I’ve started using Master kits on ALL leather armor. It may be RNG based, but I seem to receive a higher number of leather sections, and more frequently drop hardened sections when I use a master kit than fine or basic. I ran the chests in Bitterfrost Frontier, salvaged all leather with the master kit and dropped 11 hardened sections. Repeated the chest run on the same character after the night meta, salvaged all leather with fine kits. That time I dropped 5 hardened sections.

Like I said, it could be RNG was rolling in my favor, but I do seem to have better leather drop rates using the master kit regardless of whether the medium armor is blue, green, yellow, or even gray.

You can only read about Season 1. Season 2 & 3 can be played through – if you have them unlocked. Go to your Hero panel and then down to story journal. Any episodes you have unlocked are playable, and they do not have to be played/completed in order.

Since you’re just returning – each Living World Season 3 Episode is free and unlocked if you log in at least once during the time it is a “current release”. So, at the very least, you will have season 3 episode 5 unlocked. Any previous episodes you’ve missed will have to purchased in the gem store.

Did Anet say that they wanted each map to be a snapshot stuck in time?

Map? This is not about a map but about more festivals and diversity, not always the same repetitive, boring ones (or at least add more of the “old, boring” ones so that people have a little bit more diversity).

Go back and read my entire post, not just the first sentence. It is my understanding that the festival of four winds took place on a specific map – Cliffside. If that is correct, then each map being “stuck” in time means that the Festival of Four Winds could be brought back with the Cliffside map and exist in-game SIMULTANEOUSLY with the crashed Zepharites in Dry Top.

No actually I’m not mad it’s gone, it should have never been a work around for poor leather drops with high demand for every piece of gear. What you’re missing is the point of patch notes. They could have added that to the multiple additions to patch notes since the first one, instead they left it out. So why not include it in patch notes? It’s a fair question.

So if patch notes won’t tell you all of the patched changes, what’s the point of patch notes again?

Similarly, the refining recipe for silk was changed sometime recently from 2 scraps to 3, and I haven’t found that in the patch notes. I do have to admit that I haven’t done an exhaustive examination of the patch notes from 2016 to see if its in there somewhere, but it isn’t in any of the 2017 patch notes. And didn’t Anet say they didn’t want to fiddle with recipes any more?

Wow thank you, that was some very helpful tips

Glad to be of service. I will add one thing – some bosses are just best dealt with at range. Like the skritt queen in dry top. While you CAN melee her, ranged just makes that fight so much simpler – especially with the way she spams out stuns.

Did Anet say that they wanted each map to be a snapshot stuck in time? So, even though we killed Zhaitan, the Eye will still keep coming back and having to be killed since that map is a snapshot of that instant in time. Lake Doric will forever keep having White Mantle attack Saidra’s Haven and DR…long after we’ve killed Caudecus and gutted the ranks of the White Mantle. And the millions of Centaurs wiped out by the Engineers. So exactly why can’t we have the Cliffside map with the Zepharites and their airship again while it is simultaneously spread across Dry Top? DT is stuck in time…sometime after the Bazaar of the Four Winds in Cliffside.

Well, right now my biggest problem is the mesmer
But how do you manage to stay alive? that is my biggest problem. Is it a question about the right gear? Or just moving at the right moments to avoid the damage? (When you used up all of your endurance).
Truth be told, most of my gear is of exotic quality – and it will take a long time for me to upgrade it, but if that is the answer to most of my problems, then please share your knowledge

Keep your clones up and keep switching places with them. Sword 2 functions to make you effectively untouchable while still dealing damage. You CANNOT play a mes like you do a warrior – I know, I tried. And failed. Stick and move and shatter, and pop more clones. Once you learn to do that, you can solo the Troll Runestone HP in TD (Soldier’s gear from the instant 80 boost). When I first started mes, I was running sword/pistol and great sword. Now that I finished the elite collection, I run the shield instead of the pistol (most of the time). And I’m still running the default exotic soldier’s gear that I got with the level 80 booster, except for the shield…which I think is Minstrels.

Also, don’t be afraid to jump back, switch to ranged to let a few things come off cool down and then jump back to melee.

I wish ToK was sellable, as I could buy these tomes to level up my many alt characters!
I still don’t get why they’re not sellable…

If person A do not need his/her tomes why should this person keep them?
And if person B is deepy needing tomes to level up alternative characters why can’t we just trade them between each other?
Everyone will be happy then!

If you’re going to do that, why even bother starting new toons at level 1 (or 2 after the tutorial instance)? Why not instantly start every new toon at level 80?

Good question. Maybe you should ask ANet that. They did, after all, give a level 80 boost to purchasers of HoT, including those who are brand new to the game.

And that was a marketing ploy to sell more copies of HoT. And it was a one time only addition. I was trying to point out the problem with being able to sell/buy ToK on the TP.

To power level your crafting skills, I would strongly suggest looking at a crafting guide like http://gw2crafts.net. That site will auto calculate the cheapest way to get from 0 to 400 and 400 to 500 for you. The materials will be found out in the world as you progress from level 1 to level 80, which each material found in its corresponding level map – i.e., mithril and orichalcum are going to be found in level 80 maps, not a level 30 map.

Personally, I suggest just leveling your first character to 60-70 before bothering with the crafting. This will give you enough time to gather most of the materials you’ll need to max your crafting out. Once you do start to craft, make sure you get the crafting booster from the bartender in the guild hall – it will cut your leveling time quite substantially.

Edit: I have maxed all 9 crafting professions – yes, even scribe – using this method.

Even if there is 22 hours left on the gathering potion, there is a definite, noticeable difference between harvesting before and after getting a new one from the bartender after pretty much every update. Which gets annoying with 13 toons across 2 accounts.

I also will point out again that any profession can wear 6 ogre runes and have a pet most of the time. If someone complains they do not want to give up their rune slots? Well, rangers feel the same way about giving up our pets. As to solving AFK farming, well, some people will always take whatever is the easiest option to make money. If AFK farming is of particular concern to you for some reason look at why they are doing it and address that cause rather than nerfing the entire profession. For example, if leather was not needed as much you would see less people afk farming it ….. although they will go to whatever is next.

Before HOT and LS3 the thing was SW, especially the chest farm runs. Should anet have taken away the chests?

That’s a very good point – AB MM was nerfed largely because too many people were doing it and it was “too” profitable (or so it seems to myself and much of the community). Yet nothing has been done to nerf the SW chest farm. You can still make as many loops around the map and continuously open chests as long as somebody has another shovel handy. Why shouldn’t SW chest farming be nerfed the same way that AB multi-map was? (Note, I am not condoning such action…)

I’m guessing it’s because you still have to earn bandit crests to buy the keys, or collect enough silky sand and get a few keys when you refine the sand. Either way, you have to do something to get those keys, they’re not exactly free.

I don’t think that’s it either – you have to get the Exalted Keys for AB, and you can get them by buying them or by drops from doing events…the same kitten.

Nowhere else in the game that I can think of do you consistently have as many mobs that respawn that fast, so Anet didn’t have any experience with that combination of mechanics. So they get a point for lacking experience with the combination, but they lose a point for apparently not brainstorming about the consequences – and the possible counters – of that combination.

You mean besides all the other previous incidents of people AFKing with pets and minions? Those were happening long before Lake Doric came out.

Considering the part of my previous statement that I have highlighted, I fail to see the probative value of your point. Please elucidate.

Never played WoW, but I understand it has “professions” that go and harvest crafting materials. There isn’t in GW2. Also, keep salvage kits handy and salvage everything that you can. And when you can’t salvage stuff, see if you can throw it in the mystic forge in Lion’s Arch – 99% of the time, you’ll get back a piece of armor or equipment that can be salvaged for crafting materials.

Join a guild and take advantage of the XP booster that the bar tender has in the guild hall. Should be a 10% experience booster (IIRC). Makes a huge difference. However, if you are running a free to play account, you won’t be able to access them.

Lastly, one of my guildies figured it up and you can get between 15 and 20 levels off of just doing map completion of the main cities – Lion’s Arch, Rata Sum, The Grove, Divinity’s Reach, Hoelbrek, and the Black Citadel.

Requiring info regarding blocking

Kaltyn of Torbins Deep.2946

Hi all,

I’m having an issue with a someone harassing me (both irl and in-game) and was wondering what the blocking behaviour is in GW2?
(snip)

Since they are doing this in real life as well as in game, you need to take a few additional steps to protect yourself.
1. You need to notify law enforcement NOW. INSIST that a report be made – them acting on the report isn’t necessary, but your filing the report IS.
2. You need to notify support NOW.
3. You need off-line copies of your documentation of the harassment. Whether that is screenshots, printed copies of e-mails, etc. You need that documentation, and you need it somewhere off-line and NOT on your computer. I’d suggest a USB drive that you place in your sock drawer, or a bank safety deposit box. The reason for off-line is that accounts can be hacked, computers can be stolen, and computers can also be seized by law-enforcement for discovery and you could be out of luck if you don’t have a copy elsewhere.

Don’t wait, this isn’t about getting someone in trouble, this IS about protecting yourself and creating a paper trail that can be used as evidence. In my experience, harasser’s will tend to be in one of two categories: a) the oblivious idiot that is just “joking” around and will actually stop if you slap them hard enough with a clue-by-four, or b) the dangerous kind that will only escalate.

Unfortunately, you have to smack them with that clue-by-four before you can determine which category they fit into, so you have to start setting up your protection with the worst-case scenario in mind from the get go.

Yes! This is a great idea.

I have a better idea. Instead of the BLTC dropping these common items, it drops a “Common Item Ticket” that you can then exchange at the Black Lion Trading Company in LA for your choice of the common items. So, you open a chest and get a Common Item Ticket, you pop over to the vendor and trade your ticket for a bank access, or a ToK, or a revive orb, or a teleport to friend, or whatever else is on the list that you might want. Similar to the way Black Lion Tickets work for skins.

Changing the recipe for the plated dowels to use regular dowels instead of planks would allow you to cut a number of items from the list.

Making patches salvageable (hopefully for a 1:1 salvage ratio) would solve that problem, as well.

The higher priced Mayani items could be cut by allowing Mayani to buy them back for the same price they were sold.

A simple solution would have been to require both leather and cloth in equal numbers instead you need 8 cloth scraps and 30 leather sections per T6 insignia, given that imbalance its not surprising that Gossamer is so cheap while T6 leather is so expensive.

Hopefully they have actually learned from this and repair the damage they did.

Be careful for what you ask for. Instead of lowering the leather requirement, they’re more likely to increase the cloth to be the same.

Nor was this farm game breaking or giving anyone an edge as everyone else could do it.

As far as im aware only engies could take part in it right? So not everyone could do it. If you didnt have an engineer you lost out which is one of the major issues I had with it.

On top of that I dont have an issue with farming in general and turret farm was okish to me but I still dont think you should be able to consistently and intentionally be able to get loot while away from the PC screen. (exception is TP flipping i guess since its impossible to stop) Lots of people set down turrets, went away to do IRL stuff and came back once every 5-10 minutes. While it doesnt seem like much, its still 10minutes of AFK looting which shouldnt happen.

Nope, your first statement is incorrect. I ran my engi on my alt account in the farm and would simultaneously run my staff ele on my main account. Staff Ele on Air can tag multiple mobs with the auto. Since neither account has auto-loot unlocked, I’d have to switch back and forth periodically to grab loot and replace turrets. Drop rates mostly balanced between the two.

Hell, I’ll just give up and go back to minecraft. Or X2.

In my mind, the recipes – as they stand today – DO need to be changed. I would switch the T6 leather refinement from 3 sections to 2 for 1 square. AND cut the leather requirement for ALL patches in half, at least.

In the future, if there is an imbalance in mats, the proper way to adjust it would be to make a MINOR adjustment to the drop rate tables. And that could be dropped in with any patch or bug fix and be completely invisible to the player base. Constantly changing the recipes disincentivizes crafting.

ArenaNet shouldn’t allow anything that might lead to multiboxing and eventual botting in due time.

First, per the pinned post from Gaile, MULTIBOXING is permitted per the TOS. Go read https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Policy-3rd-Party-Programs-Multi-Boxing-Macros/first#post6142609 if you think I’m lying.

Second, as for your “Anything that can be done on multiple accounts at the same time…” comment, you mean like the Troll Runestone HP in Tangled Depths? I happened to be “multiboxing” last night in TD – I’d left toons from both accounts at the flax farm the night before, when someone popped up in map chat and asked for help. Since my alt didn’t have that point, I went and helped, and managed to get both accounts there in time. Then, after it was done and everyone took off, I hung out and did a little inventory management. On both accounts. And a necro showed up and needed the point. So I dropped a banner, popped my stone spirit, and told him to kick it off. And proceeded to help him take the troll down pretty quickly. Actively using BOTH accounts to do it. AND NO, I didn’t use any special macros or key binds that let me do actions on both accounts simultaneously – all my clicks and key presses were specific to each account’s game window at the time they were executed.

The fact is, multiboxing allows me to gather the resources to build up my guild hall – which I’m doing nearly solo for a guild with about 10 active accounts – and lets me play professions and try out ideas that I wouldn’t otherwise have the resources to do. Just look at the quartz crystals needed for a guild hall. It’s north of 15,000. Just for the ley-line infused tools. You go do that on one account.

id love to see all passive traits and signets and what not that give classes a passive 25% movement speed increase have that effect made baseline and be given a new one. Its very painful to me to have to deal with some classes having it and some not, and others having way better access to it than others. And what about the classes that had it added in their heart of thorns elite specs? if the new elite spec in the next expansion for Mesmer for instance didn’t have a passive 25% movement speed trait then mesmers who got the effect from chronomancer trait line would be locked out of getting it with the new one. It would be an amazing quality of life change in my opinion for these to be made baseline think about the poor necros too! with no access to a boost they usually end up falling behind groups

Necros have Signet of the Locust that grants 25% speed – I run it most of the time on my power necro, only switching it out for Signet of Spite when I know I’m going to need more/another CC.

But for the rest of your point…yeah, Guardian doesn’t have one period – that I’ve found – and the trait line for Warrior requires you to take Discipline, which is a hefty DPS loss for Power PS in PvE.

Karma…A bit of both. If you find something that you want, like, or need, buy it. Just be aware that Karma-purchased items are NOT salvagable. You can, generally, throw them in the mystic forge with 3 other items of similar rarity (blues, greens, yellows, etc.), but your salvage kit won’t work on them. And Karma comes pretty quick, so don’t fret about it – if you ever find yourself low on Karma, you just go do more events and it’ll build back up to 500k in no time. Seriously, Karma is like a weed – no matter how much you spend, it keeps coming back with reinforcements!

If you want to speed-level a crafting discipline, gw2crafts.net is your friend. I’ve maxed all 9 crafting professions out using that site.

Once you purchase the game, be sure to utilize the various boosters available from the bartender in your guild hall – Experience, crafting, gathering, etc.

A couple of months ago, I was on a dead Dragon Stand map. I was running around hitting the few available pods and generally learning my new power reaper when someone popped up in map chat and said, “Can someone help me get to juvenile tigers? I really want one for my Ranger.” 3 other players popped up and said sure, and, even though I was at the end of one of the lanes, I joined the party and started heading back to meet them. Even though the group took the wrong path, I managed to meet up with them pretty quickly. And the 4 of us level 80’s escorted a level 15 or 20 Anet employee that was just getting back into the game after a hiatus all the way down the central path, across the connection to the northern path by the blighting tower entrance, and back up to the juvenile tigers.

When a low-level character can get on a so-called dead map and get an escort that literally smashed every mob in their way across half the map…the maps aren’t dead.

Now that you made things like Winter Berries things that can be stored in collections, you need to give us a way to see how much of each of those currencies we have in the wallet. So we don’t have to drive to Arkansas to check the collections in our bank.

Clicking on an item that requires that currency (in the vendor buy window) will show you down at the bottom how much you have of that currency – I think it is on the left side and the price being on the right side by the “buy” button.

The mobs in the camp where the engineers set up don’t drop the salvageable leather item though, so they aren’t really taking advantage of the farm. Going up and down the hill path is how you make money.

1. You do get a few from the bloodstone crazed centaurs that wonder down.
2. I get more T6 leather from salvaging the leather armor pieces and the bags dropped by the centaurs in the camp than I ever did salvaging the hides gathered running up the hill. Out of 161 bags I gathered in probably 30 minutes last night, I dropped between 12 and 15 Hardened Leather Sections. I rarely got as many as 12 from a full stack of 250 of the hides running up the hill. And that was salvaging the hides with a master salvage kit.

The time gate is because of bots and stolen accounts.

Recipes…It’s just Karma, so you can. But you can also go back and get them at any point in the future if you should need them at some point. So…it doesn’t really matter one way or the other. Now, on the new maps, you might – particularly if you find one of them annoying to complete – since you have to complete them again to unlock the vendor in the future.

Item Collection pieces: Once you have confirmed that the item is unlocked on the collection page, vendor it if you can, or destroy it. Some items – like armor or weapons – only unlock on the collection page once you have unlocked the skin, simply having in your inventory does not ALWAYS unlock the item in the collection page, so I always double check.

Make it one-way. If I have 2 accounts and I link them, then I can “deposit” stuff into account 2 when I am logged into account 1. And when I’m logged into account 2, I can only deposit stuff into account 1. That way there is no way for account 2 to steal the stuff from account 1…unless account 2 is actually a different person and you give that person your password and they log in as you. But THAT would be a violation of the user agreement I do believe. And seriously…if you’re in the middle of a divorce, you probably have bigger fish to fry than the spouse stealing all your mystic coins.

What’s worse is that you lose the damage buff from the food for certain skills/attacks that root you in place. Like 100 blades. Or channeling the staff ele 5 attack (Meteor Storm?). In a real encounter (not the DPS golem), you’re doing good to maintain 80% up-time on the while-moving damage buff. Whether that is wiggling back and forth or just running after the target.

And this is the problem that keeps me in PvE and out of PvP and WvW. I have 7 professions now – Guardian being the most recent to level 80 (a week or 2 old). I absolutely love playing Power Necro in PvE. It is a blast. Taking that to PvP or WvW? Yeah, no. Joy left the building and left frustration in charge.
