I am that new player and I’m very close to having the same advantages in bonuses that all of the veteran players have enjoyed.
Let me tell you it was humbling getting here, and even when guard stacks are removed veteran players will still have the upper hand because they understand their builds and what they can do with it.
No one can take that experience away. It was earned, but having extra power to face roll noobs is really unnecessary when your still going to have months of entertainment spiking them while they get a handle on what the other classes are capable of, why everyone in the zerg out runs them, or why their sigils of mischief just are not working out on their warrior.
I’m realistic, and like most new players I don’t expect to come into a game and own veteran players who poured months and years into learning their class, but by the same token I was discouraged more than once until I realized there was an additional penalty for being a new player entering the battlefield.
I die alot, and when I do I often repair and run back to face the same opponent. I don’t do this out of anger or ego. I do it to get a better look at their build, what they are using, and how they apply it. Its how I learn, but its hard to gauge ones progress when the math slants toward an already seasoned opponent.
On a personal note I have no desire to put another new player through what I went through, or feel the need to have a bonus over them because I’ve been doing it longer. This is my sport and I need my opponents every bit as much as I need my team. Many servers already struggle to have 24/7 team coverage, and compounding the negatives against those entering our community for the first time is just detrimental to the long term survival of WvW competition in my honest opinion. /salute

Once upon a time WvW was place where u played with your team, helped you team, played for win, where u fought and killed reds with your team members. Now all i see is WvW turning into personal battlegrounds for individuals where team players are liability.
This still happens.
I just hope that people who dont want to play wvw can take thier duels, gvg’s, scrimms to some other place like guild hall arenas and leave wvw to those that want to play it like it was meant to.
“Duels, gvgs, scrimms” are not mutually exclusive with the above. Attempting to fracture the community will weaken it. Attempting to vilify people that do these things is dishonest.
There is nothing to give back, and nobody to give it back to. WvW is meant for all people with a copy of Guild Wars 2 with an account in good standing. Attempting to claim otherwise is selfishness and also futile. I am glad Arenanet is moving along with the flow, and reaching out for ways to expand its game mode beyond its original intentions to fit the development of the player base. They are not taking anything away from anyone, rather they are adding more things for people. Whether or not people appear in wvw is up to their own choice regardless if they fit anyone’s definition of playing.
I respectfully disagree. WvW is a structured competition with very clear objectives. So much so that hours of coding, mapping, and adjustments to LOS were gone over painstakingly to create its environment. That was not done haphazardly. It was done to attract the very large player-base that competitive play appeals to.
If I was on a server that had battle ques I would also be upset if a large body of people were blocking my teammates from entering the battlefield because “they” were using the environment for “selfish reasons” to GvG or 1v1.
A duel in WvW is a mixed bag because anyone can have anything.
A duel in sPvP is not a mixed bag because it comes down to stat, rune, and sigil choice. No noise like ascended, food, etc.
GW2 isn’t duel based.
WvW is won by population and 24×7 wall clock coverage. Ascended isn’t going to overcome numbers.
While I don’t disagree with much of what you say it is a factor because many times 1v1’s happen while trying to flip camps.
LOL I think its the other way around if you got taken down by a ranger.
Who said anywhere that anyone was taken out by a Ranger?
It’s the mere fact that you can do as much burst as any other burst class, but from miles away.
And your statement makes zero sense. Killing things from 1500+ ranger with 1 button isn’t called skill, but when you say something like that Rangers cry and retaliate. Simple as that.
/shrug
I’m looking at the bottom of your tag and I see you play several professions. I do as well. All I’m saying is give it a try and you’ll see they are cake to take out. I love Ranger but when I get sick of dying I jump on my warrior.
After 3-4 busy days of being gone from a computer.. this thread is still going on.
That silly people are still defending Rangers against all reason is baffling. On a more serious note… defending rangers is fine because it’s not really defending Rangers per se, it’s defending one’s self self esteem. "To think I’m playing something that takes little skill, oh my! It cannot be… it… it cannot be! No. They are wrong. Pushing 1 and sometimes 2 from Jupiter takes skill. It takes aim! (no scope). "

LOL I think its the other way around if you got taken down by a ranger.
The real issue is a server can have a a huge population but that doesn’t mean it has a solid WvW player population. The dynamic of server battles just isn’t working with the mega server. In the mean time WvW players are being milked for profit if they want to transfer…
Please ranger is one of the most borked professions and the one thing your complaining about is all they have before they are promptly taken down after they have used it. Rangers utilities offer little choice. They have to choose between protection, stun break. or condition protection that wrecks their pet and then acts like a shackle around the avatars leg slowing them from being able to run…go grind up a ranger and get back to us when you’ve learned more about how little Ranger actually brings to the table of “classes that are suppose to stand on their own”….
Also they have two main attacks. One being rapid fire and the other being barrage which in order to use you have to stand in one place or it cancels….The third is a single shot that lets the avatar jump back and stealth for a moment. Rarely has the third shot ever saved my avatar and thus been useful.

This is the best suggestion and in my opinion a development oversite that should have been caught and implemented long ago. Anything you want gear related drags you away from the battlefield to go do pve and it has had a negative impact on WvW competition. Especially on lower WvW player pop servers.
If Anet really cared for their WvW players they would give more incentives like an alternative to acquire things like the Gift of Ascension to be bought with honor points instead of having to go do freaking fractals……
Also watch the clearing of the new guildhalls pull everyone away from the battlefield. Incentives to keep players playing WvW don’t mean create more content that pulls players away….Just a common sense tip….

You know…I remember my first car. My parents gave it to me because it was “old” and it was time for them to update their ride…Kinda like the first GW2, which is now considered old content and probably why they are giving it away with the expansion.
I pre ordered and you can bet I’m ready to jump on those new guildhalls with the private arena.

Kamara, are you talking about buying traits with gold? Because the leveling you got from crafting will still be there, along with the 400 HP you’ll get from being 80. You’ll have enough for two or three builds even if you never touch a skill challenge. Thus your crafting levels won’t be trashed at all.
I didn’t craft because I wanted to be a crafter. I did it to level fast so I could jump into WvW. All my characters finished off their leveling in WvW, via scrolls and tomes “earned” in WvW.

I know this much- my credit card is staying in my wallet till I know more.
I’m a WvW player. “Thats what I like to do”. I invested in this game for that aspect alone.WvW players are talking about this, and as it stands now a single large guild transferring off server can be a wrecking ball to a servers wvw play. How many are going to be upset?
I want to be optimistic, but I’ve already experienced radical “game changes” in other MMO’s that ended up creating nothing but a mass exodus. I’m not going to put myself through that again by trying to stick it out if players start falling off.
to be completely honest, most wvw hardcore players dip into pve whenever its usefull to them. At the start of this game you either spent 35-75 additional hours unlocking your skills, or you dipped into PVE.
Likewise many WvW players jumped on the champion trains in frostgorge to get gold for runes/cosmetics/etc
even one of the detractors somewhere said they go to pve to farm linen.
WvW players arent as inflexible, and ineffecient as people are making them out to be. Most of them would rather spend an hour in pve, then 30 hours in WvW. Many of them dont like people who play WvW in styles that are motivated by charachter/account building.
they dont like karma train farmers
they dont like achievement focused play
they didnt like people there to get map complete.i dont think they would be too happy with a mass of people karma training in order to get their specialization unlocks or their extra skill points for side builds they will never use in WvW.
Trivializing what people like/dislike, or what they focused their investment in doesn’t accomplish damage control, and no, many WvW players have also made it perfectly clear in many forum post they don’t like having to leave the battlegrounds to PvE for the things they need.
I’m a new player. I paid “real money” to level my characters by way of crafting so I could jump into WvW as fast as possible. Now I’m learning that investment will be trashed over night with these changes. Do you think that would fly if Anet did the same thing to their shareholders?
Not likely without repercussions….

I haven’t stopped. In fact I’m new and just coming into the game and I’m crazy about wvw, but what I’ve noticed is if you want to get “some” of your ascended gear your gonna have to stop doing what you love and go pve farm, or worse by having to go and find a pug that more often than not has little patients for new dungeon runners .
Till then your going to be under-geared compared to most of the veterans on the BF who are also enjoying guard stacks. In my favor I’ve managed to not take it to personal dying all the time…but there are those moments after hours of it…..
Also the in-game targeting mechanics is a wreck compared to gw1 and other games. Not being able to split stacks has hurt also. I know it takes time to get good with a new game and its not all gear or game mechanics that put a new player at a disadvantage (that and I’m average at best as a player), but those factors certainly don’t make the learning curve any better.
WvW is a 24/7 competition and many servers have lean hours where there is a lack of player coverage on the battlefields. Pulling players out to get geared is a terrible oversight and detrimental to the wvw server dynamic.

Everyone here has most likely spent some time repairing and upgrading keeps and camps. and many have also ran away from such mundane task leaving some poor player to finish it alone…..The automatic upgrades addresses that issue nicely.
SPIES!!! Just playing.
I think its a great idea. Nothing wrong with getting a different perspective to hone your skills
. I wish you all the best.
Don’t count on those servers to do it. Even the people that want to aren’t the ones creating the situation directly. There’s a few that are far too eager to ‘win’ to want to do anything to help make WvW healthier overall. Some don’t even care to make it healthier on the server they are on, whether been there or moved to it…
This is indeed a player made issue though.
I agree with much of what you’ve said here but I think Anet can more than shoulder part of the blame considering the money they shelled out for professional opinions to counter the probabilities during the development phase….
Yes, and…?
I would be willing to pay for slot upgrades if it was transferable.Obviously I’m not asking for it to be free, I’m asking for it to be movable.
personally I have enough issues shuffling ascended gear much-less an entire inventory. I do agree that anet needs to rein in some of its greed, like making you pay everytime you want to swap looks after you already bought something……
My main issue with gem store skins/wardrobe is the inability to select just part of it. I usually don’t like the entire outfit but would still buy it if I liked something specific and could wear just that part of it.
so at the end would end with more alliances then the wvw servers can hold or a few super alliances for the 24/7 best coverege, imo has players tend tp behavior will lead to the oposite of what Skeletor.9360 thread posted.
quote:
“All existing players would have an option to join an alliance, either with a guild or individually.”Q: so each guild could have their own spoter?
Sorry to be full negative, but this is a hard problem to get fixed tend in account players behaviour.
We already have a massive spotter/spy issue which I’d like to see curbed or better incorporated by design to where all teams have the same tools available to them. Some on principle won’t use a second account to spy while others do.
Completely abandon the concept of worlds and servers for WvW and replace it with Alliances.
To start with, let players create their own alliances. These alliances would probably start as guild alliances but there shouldn’t be any reason why an individual couldn’t join one. These alliances would then be registered as WvW participants. After alliances are registered, retire the world servers.
Alliances would have a tiered registration.
*Tier 1: less than 500 members.
*Tier 2: 501 – 1000 members.
*Tier 3: 1001 – 1500 members
*Tier 4: 1501 – 2000 members
Have a cap of 2000 members forcing people to create other alliances and stopping stacking/bloating of an alliance. Members will belong to 1 alliance at a time. Have no cap on the number of alliances possible in the game.Match ups will be based on tier first, then either by leaderboard score or a round robin rotating selection. I believe there would be enough alliances to make a round robin selection possible and effective.
Current world bonuses from WvW would instead be alliance bonuses.
All existing players would have an option to join an alliance, either with a guild or individually.
New players would never get an option to select worlds, their data would just be stored on a random server. The server at this point would be irrelevant. New players would then get to pick an alliance via game play from recruiters just like guilds do. This would allow for a much more informed decision about it as compared to now and allow for better development of “identity” in an alliance as opposed to world servers.
Problems may occur with individuals belonging to different alliances than their guilds belong to. However, this was also true of people belonging to different worlds in the same guild. That issue seems to have had only minor problems and I wouldn’t anticipate alliances creating significantly more in that respect.
This may also make a use for the team chat channel and differentiate it from map chat.
In short, this would level populations, increase the number of “players/alliances” in WvW, create a better sense of identity post megaserver, and still allow people to keep playing as they have been.
“That” was an excellent solution. Just because a server may have a healthy population doesn’t necessarily mean that it has a strong showing in wvw population. This idea would also address that issue as well.
/hatsoff
TL;DR: Rewards in a PvP game mode are really tricky to do right, and have incredible potential for generating unintended and undesired player behavior. It’s an extremely delicate balance. Most of us are fine with rewards being mediocre for this reason, as long as the action in WvW itself is fun.
While balance “can be tricky” I have to disagree with you concerning the reward.
WvW requires around the clock player coverage, or it quickly becomes just a plowfest or ghost town. Keeping wvw players engaged and active can be the difference between keeping them… or having a wvw player exodus.
What really needed to be done is Anet to come clean and say they didn’t really make it to be a stand alone class and it’s suppose to be pigeonholed as a support class. But fear not folks because they are now going to give the class a bow so they can offer support from the backline…. Had I known what I know now I never would have rolled and leveled one.
I’m going to give it a bump also because borking targeting and entire classes should be addressed along with pushing a patch before other bugs should have been addressed like not being able to use the hall of monuments to get your rewards…..
I have zero belief a test server would change anything. For one thing, a test server doesn’t exist, it’s just not a public one.
And I don’t think most people playing would play on a test server, when it’s in no way furthering their goals. I played on the test server on Rift. It was dead almost all the time and bugs still happened, often major bugs, every time there was an update.
The test server also slows things down, because you have another layer of people “testing” and then you have to fix the bugs they find.
Most of the major things are fixed the day of the patch or at most the day after. Creating a test server would serve no purpose here.
I disagree. I’ve been a test player on many mmo’s and a few small incentives to play a test server can be the difference between a clean push or a borked one like the last two we’ve had….
One of the most touching tributes I ever read about was that of the memorial made to the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution.
Fallen Lions would be befitting for a memorial in this instance as well.
For the lighthouse: Glints point.
Glint sacrificed much by siding against the other dragons.

If Anet wants to make serious money they will make GH’s able to be decorated with seating. Every game I’ve been in that had deco and housing made big cash off of players with a pinch for decorating….
Yeah. Since the announcement, I’ve got an officer (who LOVES to help the guild and is very much into fashion/(gemstore)/etc) who has received complete authority over the Guild Hall when it’s finally implemented. We’re saving/storing funds to help, but some people LOVE this sort of thing and will spare no expense/time to make it perfect. I’m very excited to see what she comes up with. I’m only saddened at the fact that the Guild/Alliance/Guild Hall system wasn’t carried over from GW1 (GW2’s ‘guild’ system is absolute trash in comparison), but I’m hopeful that this long wait will be worth it.
GW1’s GH’s were not that bad but I hope we have more freedom to personalize them and make use of the space for social and gvg a little better. But yes I’m guilty of being one of those that spared no expense to make my pixel crib the talk of the server.
Straight up I’ve always been more of a pve/rp kind of player (truth) but I have become seriously hooked on wvw in this game. Granted I’ve not had gw2 for very long but the dynamics of play and community are very addictive. Personally I would like to see a better means of making gold by keeping players in the wvw maps rather than having to take breaks to go pve farm.
lol this “HAS TO BE A TROLL THREAD”. I’ve played a lot of mmo’s and GW2 has one of the best leveling systems I’ve ever seen by giving players an opportunity to progress their characters in many ways. In this respect the developers got it right.
If Anet wants to make serious money they will make GH’s able to be decorated with seating. Every game I’ve been in that had deco and housing made big cash off of players with a pinch for decorating….
lol Karma is a funny thing. In IMHO no class should be able to apply those kind of dots, with that kind of burst dmg, and stealth for that long. If its just a bug I’m sure that a nerf is just down the road for the class.
The best joke is going to explain to the shareholders why the game lost so much money on 4/1….love to be a fly on the wall during that board meeting…
Lost money how? From all the subs cancelled? Oh wait, those aren’t a thing. From… no, there’s no way for them to specifically show a loss of revenue associated with this day, even if that were actually happening, which it’s not.
When cash shoppers don’t log in they don’t spend money which is where the real profits are made in gw2….
You’re really over estimating the impact this will and is having. Also, even if this is making an impact, no one looks at a single day and care. They look at the week, the month, the quarter, or the year. The day is fairly arbitrary.
I disagree.

The disclaimer about not being offensive goes both ways. As another poster stated: they haven’t even identified all the bodies yet. I would have scrapped the aprilfools joke cause it was just a little too close to a “recent tragedy” still playing out on world news….
But what if they decide to release the expansion on August 25th.
Then on August 24th some country decides to invade another country, and killing thousands of people and soldiers.
Should ArenaNet scrap their plans for the expansion then, just because the whole: “Thousands of people got massacred by Mordremoth” could be seen as a connection to “Thousands of people die in newly started war”?As I have said: Tragedies happens every single day. The fact that people don’t care about them because they aren’t as well-published as this one, doesn’t really matter. Things happens, and if they should take all of those things into consideration at all times they will never be able to release anything.
shrugs You can say and think what you like, but IMO it looks callous in the wake of a recent tragedy, and on a more personal note I didn’t buy the game for their AF day jokes. Its an epic game and I praise the developers for their accomplishment but don’t expect me to be happy with having my play hijacked for a day or even for a minute with the kind of cash I sling at it….
And in the wake of such tragedies events are often rescheduled or canceled.
So they should simply have to potentially scrap every single piece of created content, because at the time they plan to release it something have happened in the world that can be seen as connected to it?
That will never work out.

I’m sure it not funny to anyone that had a connection to one of the many recent downed airliners…Someone didn’t think this through very well or don’t keep up with the news.
Here’s my April fools. Go look up how much I spend on this game and realize that I logged for the night after the funny wore off after five minutes….
