Guardians/DH, time for a bat to the knee

Yes even in Gw1 there was a flavor of the month, but that wasn’t my thing back then to jump classes. I made a warrior in prophesies and took her all the way to the last expansion. I did make a few other toons but none of them had the miles that I put on that warrior.

The Guardian is not only a flavor of the month but has been a go-to class since release. The class used to be primarily zerg fighters and had modest performance in smaller scale fights. This was a solid balance. Great in some areas, weak in others. Now Guardians/DH are pretty much dominant in all facets of fighting. They effectively have no weak points outside of a handful of specific builds. They do everything too well.

All classes need to have shortfalls otherwise everyone gravitates to one class and the meta becomes stale. This is what is happening with Guardians and DH. So many players run them now it is nearly impossible to get into a fight and not have a significant portion of the fighters playing one class often one build.

I disagree. Guardian before DH was pretty easy to own by most classes in a 1v1. Burn guard did improve them and I would go so far as to say it was a bit op, but DH is about 50-50 in a 1v1 against most classes right now. They are not op and I die daily to many in a 1v1, but at least now I also win a few.

[WvW] opinion poll - WvW gear

I said yes and here’s why.

When I first started out in WvW I was immediately at a disadvantage because not only was I new, but my gear was under par compared to most players, with the addition of not having the guard stack advantage.

Its very disheartening getting face rolled all the time and some either wait till they have the gear to enter WvW or just go ahead and end up getting frustrated and quit.

I say we need those players now. Almost every toon I have is in full ascended gear minus a few trinkets. If anyone should complain its me because I just got on par with the vets, but looking at the wvw landscape it is clear to see that it is in trouble. For the love of the sport WvW needs to become more player friendly to the new or returning players, and we don’t need them drawn away to Pve in order to get geared.

I love WvW and I believe this is the way to go to breath life back into it.

Also I started with GW1 and it was never about the gear…it was how you played your build aka buildwars.

Everybody that started wvw 6 months to a year after its inception had the exact same disadvantages as any new player entering now, including no guard stacks or other wvw rank bonuses, and because it took forever to get them in some cases some of the late enterers may have took years to get on par with the vets.

I’m not arguing with anyone who’s currently at a disadvantage, I’m saying that everyone is or has been at a disadvantage at one point. Those that stuck with it, earned buffs to help more, only to lose our guard stacks in order to level the playing field.

Now, it’s gear that should be equal? Why give a majority of new people (that are most likely just going to zerg it up) another advantage over those stuck it out, learned what gear/food/traits to run again and again week after week by experimenting and spending loads of money or time to get all their gear and then some?

We do need new players, but further punishing older players is not the answer.

Its not an advantage or punishment to move to a more player friendly WvW system that would be available to all WvW players. Seasoned players will still have the advantage of knowing the classes and builds better because that wisdom only comes with time and practice.

I can’t imagine any zerg chasing a solo roamer “across the map”. I call bs.

Nope I’ve seen it happen. More than once.

[Suggestion] making roaming more meaningful

Hate to say it but “Roaming” is a CHOICE. It has always been high risk, little reward. If you want small fights go to SPVP, stop demanding recognition for a game mode that is fundamentally useless to WvW outside of scouting, Yak killing and the occasional camp flip that is more efficiently done by a havoc squad.

This “Lone Wolf” in WvW is useful from time to time, but hardly important.

I have to disagree with this. I’ve seen roamers effectively divide forces, create confusion, slow down enemy reinforcements with strategic taps, and turn an offensive enemy to defensive ones with just really good tactics.

The funniest thing I ever seen was when one roamer with a great pair of nike’s used themselves as bait and turned a whole zerg around, which bought them just enough time to get reenforcement. “Bravo!”

You guys (roamers) do more than you think, but many here are right about one thing. To really be effective you need to coordinate with your teams better to pull off great stunts like what I mentioned.

/hats off to you guys

This is similar to an issue with Diablo 3. People complained that their gear/builds did not feel special due to being able to change their setup any time. In Diablo 2 you had to remake your character just to replace a few stat points. Many people did, and had fun doing it. Also removing the need to buy your own gear in Wvw removes a gold sink which may mess up the economy.

There are admin commands for them to adjust anything and everything concerning the economy. Its been a MMO feature for a very long time. And GW1 was never about the gear, it was about how well you played your build.

@RodOfDeath, I agree that build diversity has gone down since launch. Not only because of the lack of choices one can make post-HoT, but also because of the rise of single points of reference like metabattle.com where many starters get their builds and never try anything else.

I wouldn’t want it to get any worse than is already is…so, “No” I think we should be free to experiment in WvW.

You do realize that the current gear system in WvW limits build deversity due to the grind for gear and that a gwskills.net style pannel for gear would keep build deversity while removing the barrier for entry and allow for more on the fly experimentation, right?

This!

Truth is the only reason I can see why someone would not want it is to have a tiny edge over noobs.

I have five toons with full ascended gear including class weapon swaps minus a few trinkets. Take a guess at how much time that pulled away from WvW so I could go Silverwaste my tail off….. I mean really guys? Its not like we get some special secret decoder ring when we pimp out in ascended. The stat tweak is minor. I’ve been in GW2 for a little over a year and managed to pull off all that ascended gear.

But there is a twist to that. I’m disabled and as long as I can manage to sit upright I can play. Granted I can take small breaks to lay down if I start hurting too much, which I do often, but I still have way more free time to play a MMO than when I was pulling down a paycheck.

People work hard these days and often come home too tired to even log in. Who do you think buys MMO’s to play? People who can’t afford to bounce off to Rio for the weekend. The average player these days is 35 and usually male (which is changing more and more go girl power!).

Life is hard enough. Peoples entertainment shouldn’t become a chore first before they can play WvW.

As it stands right now (IMO) I feel DH is just about right. There is no single class other than reaper where its not a 50-50 chance of winning or losing against. Reaper however wrecks me every single time.

Reapers should not be wrecking you on the trapper build so long as you don’t drop every trap in one spot and stand in the traps. Most of the time WoR followed quickly by Whirling Wrath will do the trick to burst them down. If they dodge or break the immobilize, go back to kiting and wait to line up True Shot. If it is heavy condi timing CoP can be a trick but otherwise the DH has the advantage as going in close triggers traps (best staggered) and ranging them is a suckers bet.

I’m playing the meta trap medi build on my DH, and I’m being honest here. Reapers wreck my world lol.
I am not the best pvper but I’m not the worse either. I average 50-50-ish for my rank which is not that high because I’ve only been doing pvp in GW2 after taking a break from WvW when I got frustrated over the golem rush.

I don’t want to play an OP class, I want to learn and play my class very well. That’s what I always loved about GW1. It wasn’t about the gear, it was how you played your build.

Yes even in Gw1 there was a flavor of the month, but that wasn’t my thing back then to jump classes. I made a warrior in prophesies and took her all the way to the last expansion. I did make a few other toons but none of them had the miles that I put on that warrior.

GW2 has been different for me. Here I’ve made several avatars, and I like all of them but I mainly play the Ranger, mesmer, and DH. I also have a warrior, thief/daredevil (new), Rev (also new), and a up coming necro, and engi.

Every one of them have been a blast to play, but there is also a factor of what works best for a player and their play style. I’m very aware that I may not have found the best fit for me yet out of the classes. So this is not about defending my favorite. I’m just trying to give an honest opinion.

BTW ty for the tip. I will try to practice that and see if it turns my luck around a little

You know I didn’t hate everything about it. Some really good work went into that map, but it lacked practical function for what we do. IMO the WP system was better with the alpine map and the layout for the keeps in the desert map was just too disjointed and lacked flow.

It always ticked me off that I had to jump off the wall and face-plant just to fix my armor after wp’ing back, or run all the way around to use the stairs that should have been right there to begin with. I always thought that was kind of a jerk move on the part of the designer. (sorry but just being honest here).

I run solo alot in wvw on my DH and I’m here to tell you that my condi mesmer is usually the one I switch to when I get tired of dying on my DH. She has great survivability.

I’ve stalemated against one ranger on my DH. We just couldn’t kill one another (good fight). Ranger is also my other favorite class and the binding roots elite ranger skill has tore my DH up in several pvp matches and in WvW.

But I also know why many are upset with it because I got stuck in “multiple” DH traps a few days ago and it was like being a ping pong ball tossed back and forth till it killed her. Yes that sucked.

DH traps are very easy to avoid and many players are able to negate every single one I drop in a fight. In PvP its more difficult to avoid them because they fit nicely on the capture point.

The other day in WvW I had one attack pulled on me that I just couldn’t get out of. Forgive me for not knowing what it was because I don’t have every class just yet or all of the new hybrid classes, but it was like a mini dust storm (slow moving) and every time I got up after it knocked me down it hit me again with another knockdown. I did have more than one player happily bag farming me at the time, but that attack was the worse I’ve dealt with thus far.

In my opinion if they start chipping away at DH there will be no more 50-50 for it and it will become as subpar as guardian was. I would fix the trap where only one could activate on a single player at a time however because it is not escapable even for a heavy class when more than two are dropped on a player.

t2 desert camps

My two cents on the subject is I think they had the right formula for guards/ scouts and supers. What bothered me was the mini pve events that were introduced with HOT, along with the airships, and bubbles.

A reduction in guards could really hurt both sides and reduce confrontations.
Whoever set the timing, strength and numbers was pretty genius in my humble opinion.

The NPC can hold off a camp from being flipped just long enough for someone to respond (and yes the super’s timer will still be needed because its the only thing that slows a zerg down). Too few guards would also impact the soloist or small havoc squads that depends on them for protection after they flip a camp.

I came back to add that I agree with crimemakers idea of turning the DBL into a new EB. the WP’s need to be tweaked more like the old bl and EB because not having a wp to get across that map is a real cruncher.

Did Anet secretly fix population?

in WvW

Posted by: Kamara.4187

Kamara.4187

No they did not, if you look at t2 it has become extremely toxic right now with TC buying up t1 guilds and there is a severe to say the least population imbalance. FA and DB as two servers cannot match TCs numbers and coverage. I for one can not wait for the april update.

This is a sad little routine considering you all have been saying this since you were in the lower tiers while continuing to play mainly in the early am hours in NA.

You out number TC during the hours you all have chosen to play and you out numbered all the other servers all the way up to number two.

All I can say is I’m grateful I don’t have to buy a used car from whoever taught you all this sales spin.

What I’m seeing in the offending elite specs is a preponderance of CC, defensive skills and damage.

DH in particular is silly as it has massive melee damage in the form of traps, great ranged damage, a ranged nullifier that lasts very long and a wall of reflect, then an array of blocks, immunities, knockbacks, pulls, etc. They just cover all of their bases too well.

Contrast that with old warriors that could knock you around quite a bit but did less burst damage and were vulnerable to being kited from range.

Reapers, on the other hand, reprise the necromancer’s role of being monsters at close range but being vulnerable to kiting…except with their increased ability to chill and newfound mobility, it can be a bit overbearing. Still, I would be remiss to nerf power reapers too harshly. The true problem is the condi reaper as they can do all of their damage from range but still benefit from the enhanced survivability. Problems inherent to condi aside, there’s no way to fight them—every choice is wrong.

Scrappers are harder to pin down because I don’t see them as often. They seem to have permanent swiftness/super-speed, great CC/damage and utility to boot. I think they’re too strong but I don’t really know what to change about them.

I’ll agree with some of this but DH is far from being the I win button that the thief enjoyed for so long. Reapers wreck me everytime. Crono has been a coin toss of will they get me or will I get them.

ArenaNet: Why do Legendaries take so long?

Modeling a 3D object is only part of it.
After the texture is applied along with any FX or bones (if it has any flex), they then have to scale it for each race, gender x however many base size models that will be using it per race. Then it has to be parented by how it will be held and stored. (x race/gender and their perspective base sizes).

After that part is done they have to then check it for clipping with all the different armors and outfits. Then it is weighted for the game world.

Once that is done then they move onto the animation cycles and python scripting which is probably done by a different team.

Now you have the weapon.

Next is the quest chain, its story, and objects that will be apart of the story along with spawns and triggers of the mobs and npc’s in the quest chain with their animations, sounds, or dialog/text or voice used and FX that may be used by npc or part of the quest/story.

And poor QA has to test it all.

All of that has to have code also, and put in many different files from its damage to crafting steps, non tradable, content, ect

Then there is the shuffling it to different departments that handle the different aspects.

Professional game making touches on many different crafts/trades/professions, and I’m sorry if I missed a step and left something out which I’m sure I have.

The concept of a traditional MMORPG is dying

I respect your opinion but I disagree.

Players are diverse in their likes. The same as most of us don’t want to watch the same program or eat the same thing day in and day out. We like to switch things up, and the many facets of a MMO are the perfect environment to achieve that along with a social outlet.

The challenge however is to do it cost effective from a companies standpoint without extending too little or too far concerning budget and vision.

BTW I recall over 12 years ago when someone was saying MMO’s were dying…yet here we are.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kamara.4187

While Anet having the numbers is a big part of his video, I think the more important part bog is trying to say is that Anet is being more open and honest now and we should be encouraging that behavior. Being open to discussion and not have them have to be so concerned that players will weaponize anything they say. That even if we’re angry, we should check ourselves and communicate calmly without immediately assuming the worst from them.

If they’re more willing to talk to us, maybe they’ll be more willing to tell us why some of our ideas are plausible or not. And with a better understanding maybe we in turn could offer more informed feedback.

I like how he also offers Anet advice that maybe offering some compensation alongside bad news might soften the blow next time. He mentions some of the ideas to possibly still allow the new legendary skins to be in the game. And I think Anet answering how plausible those ideas are would go a long way in calming the player base. Either way, hopefully good ideas are reaching them.

That was a nice constructive post.

TY for sticking your head out again to address the community M.O.

I was a bit nervous that you all might turtle on the communication after the seething hot flames of anger that was hurled your way from the community for doing what many have asked for.

Its ok. You caught it all in time (unlike SOE did with some of their games), and you handled it correctly by facing it head on. If you keep your word the negativity will fade over time, or at least return to normal gamer grumpy levels LOL.

You might want to let them know that indefinitely on hold does not mean axed completely. Most have no idea of the staggering amount of work that goes into a game or how things are sometimes shuffled to reach deadlines.

Other than that I’ll give the new BL a look and toss my 2 cents in the opinions when its released. But straight up its probably not going to be an easy sell.

Hopefully Mo is looking for the opportunity to re-direct staff back to Legendary development, once things calm down and HoT gets some much-needed polish.
And hopefully, at that time, he’ll tell us development is back on.

I would not expect it anytime soon because they will probably have to do things in incremental steps to avoid fanning the flames of community hostility. They never set out to make people unhappy, but gamers are notorious for hating change “at first” and sometimes come around to accepting a new direction later on.

It kind of puts them in a catch 22 on waiting to see if something is going to go over well in the long term. Many in the industries past just plowed ahead with changes and didn’t stop or listen to their community. I have to commend Arenanet for stepping up on this one. Its a refreshing thing to witness.

((disclaimer: No I do not work for Anet or Nsoft, no I am not a fanboi, or have any friends involved with them in any way, and no I do not desire to come out of retirement and become involved with them, or get special shinies for being a kiss up.))

I have been on both sides of the fence in a very long history of gaming. I have been apart of a community that raged against the game godz, and been apart of those that were raged against. Its never comfortable for either party, and in fact threatens the very thing both sides love. The game.

Most people are aware of the fact that games are created to make a profit by providing entertainment. What most are not aware of are all the complexities that go along with it.

When you sign up to work for a major label (contract or salaried) there are many pages that read like you are going to work for the CIA with things like non disclosure, trade secrets, industrial espionage warnings (depending on the type of contract), and of course liability warnings.

Often what a gaming community ask for in transparency simply cannot be supplied due to many things that are bundled in the agreements “they signed” to safe guard and shield the company from theft and liability. Its not that they don’t want to communicate with their playerbase. You see out of the millions of players in the game not all are here just to play. Some are also apart of the industry. legitimately or illegitimately (hackers, gold sellers ect).

I was shocked Mike O’brien himself walked out on a plank to address this community. It was a bold and brave move in more ways than most will ever realise. To say I’m not a little bit in awe of his leadership on this is an understatement when I’ve seen so many over the years take the easier route by sending someone lower down on the ladder to face an angry community or just hide and ignore it. You can call him many things but the man is certainly not a coward by any stretch of the word.

That’s why I’m writing this. I respect what he did, and why he did it.

I’m going to say what they probably can’t say, or try to explain all this in terms I hope everyone “gets”. I’d also like to add that I’m not saying that mistakes were not made. They were, but its not easy trying to be perfect when capturing such a broad market with players as savvy and diverse as a swiss army knife.

Game changes: They happen in every mmo striving to be better.

Fact: They don’t always turn out to be as good as they looked in the boardroom and appeal to the gaming community.

When this happens usually one of two things take place. Its ignored or addressed. Historically most in the industry just ignored the negative impact and continued to push forward in a new direction. I have to say I’ve never once seen an about-face. Have any of you? I’ve been around a long time. I’ve seen a lot, but I’m not claiming that I know it all or had the pulse of every game that has ever launched. I do not recall any MMO taking their communities distain seriously enough to stop and switch directions. I’ve witnessed tons of talk and attempts at damage control, even splitting of a community by launching what is called a classic server to appease part of an angry community, but never a sincere switch-back at the communities urging.

I have witnessed many angry gaming communities. This one is no exception to that fact. In my opinion most were also justified in their anger including this one.

Which is another reason why I’m stepping up for this team. Unlike so many over the years they stopped and responded to their community. /respect.

In doing so there is a myriad of things that will have to be fixed and changed. It doesn’t matter if it was a mistake or not. At this point its water under the bridge. Its done, but it is essential from a companies standpoint to do whatever it is they are going to do without loosing money, or more of their established playerbase, or investors. That right there is one heck of a juggling act. Its also why M.O. stepped out on that plank.

Resources have to be moved around, but not all resources are able to be moved. Some are locked in by contract to specific projects, not to mention when monies are claimed in quarterly statements for certain things they cannot be reallocated to another project. Its a delicate dance, and a “delay of something” is inevitable to execute such a bold move.

They heard you, they stopped, and they listened. They don’t have a magic wand to make it all better over night, and most of you realise this, so please grasp the very positive in what is happening here. I’ve seen community rage trains drive games into the sunset along with bad calls, but I’ve never seen the potential for both sides of a games community to do the unexpected and change history by coming together and getting it right.

By the way; delayed inevitably equates to “don’t know a timeline and can not give you one for sure”. However it does not mean that something is never going to happen.

It is also the correct response and answer to cover ones tail from liability when attempting to discuss things that are in the works but are not yet developed.

I hope this helps both sides. I really do, and Mike if you don’t follow through I’ll lead the torches and pitchforks in the forum next time…but somehow I don’t think that there will be a need to.

I’m sorry but this poll is just plain stupid. Players SHOULD NOT have to choose which of the promised content should be scrapped while they are actively working on Expac#2. Take a deep breath. Its postponed indefinitely translates to they just can’t give you a timeline because they don’t know. They will have them done before the new expansion is released.

This expansion is falling apart. [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kamara.4187

Kamara.4187

The expansion is fine except for WvW, which got pushed way back and legendary weapons, which are now put off indefinitely. There’s already an legendary backpack in the game via PvP and the Fractal one will probably be along shortly. The fractal leagues were pushed back too but I’m not thinking people really care about that.

If the WvW beta starts soon and if it’s a success that’s half the battle right there. A lot hinges on the WvW overhaul. Raids have been fairly well received, more work needs to be done on Fractals and my guess is they’ll revert or at least improve dungeon rewards.

Once the living story hits (in July?) very few people will be worried about pushing legendary weapons back indefinitely. Some will, but not enough to affect numbers.

The real issue is that the company wasn’t running as well as it could and they need to get stuff running better sooner, rather than later. Mike O’Brien made a judgement call on what could be cut to make that happen. It was never going to please everyone. It’s definitely a controversial decision, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad one.

April patch should address some of the complaints about HoT (not all of them but some) and we move on from there. Based on how well that patch is received and what’s in it, we can go from there.

The expansion isn’t falling apart, because the stuff it’s missing won’t affect everyone, or even most people.

I really hope for the sake of the game that the WvW beta and the changes to the new zones soothe some ruffled feathers.

The TL;DR on why SWG failed is that Raph and his team were overambitious and the higher-ups at SoE failed to rein him back in.

The TL;DR on what actually happened is that the game was pretty badly hurt by a premature release, and updates intended to reverse that decline culminated in the NGE, which ‘killed’ the game by destroying much of what distinguished it gameplay-wise from other MMOs. It was ultimately shut down a few years later.

There might be a few parallels.

That’s not what happened. In fact going back even a little further than NGE or the CU, Ralph’s stance concerning the alpha classes altogether was that it would be a detrimental move…Time has proven him correct.

Many also forget that he resigned over the CU.

This was a good call. The issues with the foundation of the game needs to be addressed before new content. This is what we have all been asking for and it is basic common sense that the core game needs to be right before anything else people…jump back and let them breathe. We can revisit legendaries later.

They said they’re working on LS 3 and a new expansion instead of the “Heart of Thorns” legendary weapons. That doesn’t ring “core game”/foundation to me. That’s working on the next sales drive as opposed to delivering on features used as selling points in the last expansion. They’ve already been paid for it, so they basically don’t care about holding up their end – not when they can profit on the next big thing they’ll over promise and under deliver on. Look at how many game systems are a mess: WvW, PvP, they canned dungeons, and now they’re shelving legendary weapons – which were a pretty significant driver for PvE engagement with both old and new content.

It’s also been what, 6 months since HoT launched? And we can only expect 4 total legendaries out of 16 that were promoted with the expansion. Seems like they’ve had plenty of time to breathe, not only since HoT’s launch, but since the point in time where they thought it’d be feasible to include 16 new BiS weapons with the expansion, as a selling point.

There’s a whole lot of “later” with little being done for those foundation issues, and it would seem projects are consistently being dropped by the wayside. I get that Mike is taking over and adjusting the direction development took under Colin, but there are “agreements” with players that still need to be maintained.

Having been a project manager/producer, I feel bad for the team on the legendary project. I’d be livid, were I working for Anet, if my team had been assigned to do something that they obviously couldn’t manage in a reasonable amount of time – the burden of promising too much, with too few people, in too little time. I feel bad for them, as I’m assuming they’ve been crunching to make decent progress, and fixing what had been implemented poorly — and rather than adding some extra resources to finish it faster, they opted to shelve it indefinitely, making it essentially a wasted effort.

I get what you are saying, and yes they will need to produce the legendaries promised “before the next expansion” but I understand also that the game community was starting to crack over unaddressed issues, and if it was to be neglected much longer they were not going to have a community to develop for.

If you’ve been a project manager then you know that many developers are contracted to do certain work while some developers remain company side? I believe M.O. is moving the resources that “he is able to move” while leaving those he can’t move to continue working on what they have been contracted to do.

Yes I could be wrong, but if I was in his shoes that is exactly what I would do for the over-all health of the game and community, then I’d return the team back to finish the legendaries once the core issues were addressed that was causing the game to bleed out player interest in key areas of the game.

I don’t want complete flat maps but yes the new map is often difficult for me but then again I’m getting older and slowing down.

If I could recommend a tip it would be to find that mesmer commander that often runs groups through the new map. I cannot express my gratitude deeply enough for the help they gave me and others the other day.

Sorry I don’t recall the name but they had a ICE guild tag up. hope that helps.

Has anybody noticed how none of the people defending this because “it makes sense to focus on LS content” keep ignoring the fact that there are people developing a new expansion when they haven’t even finished this one that came out 6 months ago and are starting to cut features?

MOVE YOUR DEVELOPERS TO ALREADY BOUGHT CONTENT AND FINISH IT BEFORE STARTING NEW PROJECTS.

Maybe I’ll tell my clients that I took on too many websites and my time will be better spent working on another clients print design so I will not be working on their projects for an indefinite amount of time.

No I noticed, but what you may not be aware of is that many developers are “contracted” for certain work. To move them or change what they were contracted to do could be a breech of contract.

Aside from the expansion thing though, they do have a separate float team of 30 people.

Also, gonna reiterate from my earlier post. As someone who is primarily looking forward to LS3 and was looking for news updates on the release; this is a decision made in behalf of “my” demographic of the fanbase, and I still don’t want it and think its a terrible idea.

I want to be able to go back to advocating this game I love so much, but I can’t do that with any sincerity or integrity based on this decision.

I respect that though I feel they are headed in the right direction. I hope that they will be able to get to a place where they can pick it up once again for those of you that were looking forward to the legendaries.

Thanks for all the comments. I know there’s nothing I’m going to say that will make you feel better, but I’ll share some final thoughts for the night.

I will work to make you happy, and I’ll do it by making you happy with what we ship, not with what we promise to ship.

So MO, how does your foot taste?

Here’s a piece of advice, don’t make promises you can’t keep.

Well at least he didn’t take your jedi away. And if you were on starsider you should get that

No I actually work for the guy that did though, ironically!

Seriously though, this level of professionalism being demonstrated in this forum post alone by the Game Director is just appalling.

I think he’s handling it 100% better than SOE (Smedley) handled their train wreck.

By not addressing the community, and shutting down their negative post only generated more anger and garnered them the worst talked about MMO in history… though it was one of the most innovative for its time.

They should have listened to Raph Koster. He tried to tell them.

M.O. Go have dinner with your family or something. It will all still be here tomorrow. I’ve seen what you all have done to try to turn things around. You all did give us gliding in the core game (TY BTW). You have been biting the bullet and addressing the communication issue more. It will take some time for trust to mend but you all are on the right track.

Pulling people from the expansion team (or the gem store one, if it is assets they lack) would achieve the same result. While giving us what we were actually supposed to get.
Oh, of course, it means that instead of working toward new sources of money they actually give us things we already paid for. Obviously that’s not what they are going to do.

Unless they come out with some blogpost at the start of April like “we hired an army of chronomancers and here are all the new legendaries, also we conquered the world and we have a portal to Tyria in our offices”, well, they ruined any credibility they had left. People will have no reason to buy a new expansion after seeing how they managed the first one.

I disagree. All of this mess came about because of lack of communication between the player base and the game godz. This is not the first time a game went off track because of bad calls made in the boardroom that forgot what group actually pays the bills.

Take it as a positive sign that things are changing.

Also I get why a community turns rabid over a lack of communication + game changes. I’ve lived this before. However its time to pull back so this bridge between the community and Anet can mend.

I’m always amused by bugs, but then again I’m a retired bug hunter. This game has some bugs but not the worst or the funniest that I’ve seen.

The funniest bug incident I ever dealt with was when this poor player asked us to come help him (different game) when a NPC followed him out of its zone and was corpse camping his body all across the map.

Yes I probably shouldn’t have found it funny but QA can be kinda stressful and it was just one of those moments where QA and the Dev’s all stopped and looked at one another like “seriously”….

I think I’ve made my point very clear – nobody is forcing you. Legendary armor is little more than a vanity item with a bit of added QoL. it’s not even in the game yet.

You are simply actively trying to put the blame somewhere, which is just kind of ridiculous.

“Oh no! I want Chak weapons, but the only way to get Chak weapons is by playing the TD meta”! is an argument that sounds rather stupid, doesn’kitten But it follows precisely your logic, Vayne.

Give up with this complete BS, Vayne. You. Don’t. NEED. Legendary armor. You don’t. Nobody does. It’s not required for anything. The entire basis of your argument is nothing but a balloon of hot air. Enough.

I still see NOTHING constructive here.

Ya know I’ve followed this thread closely and Vayne has been very diplomatic and a gentleman at the very least while conveying his stance.

There is no need for you to feel threatened just because your views may be different than his, or that many like myself agree and get what Vayne is saying. Step back and take a deep breath. Their is no need to go on the attack.

Comments about Communications

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kamara.4187

Kamara.4187

It hasn’t escaped my attention either that the only red posts are from Gaile when she started this thread. They can definitely do better on a communications thread started by an ANet staff person. It feels like they sent everyone here to talk about communication, then they got up and left the conversation and never came back. Leaving us all sitting here wondering if there’s going to be this communication they started.

Back before I started that Dev post in Reddit thread that this thread is a spin off of, I kept seeing these posts on the forum where people were begging for help on precursor crafting. There were a number of events that required failure and this was setting up deliberate griefing as well as innocent event completion that stopped people who had been trying for days to get their needed item. People were coming to the forum and making thread after thread trying to get a red post about this situation. If there was even one red post answering them, I never saw it.

Then one day, I found the reddit dev tracker and browsing through that I found a red post talking about this situation to someone over there. It was over a month old at that time. That irritated me. They posted an important piece of information there and couldn’t take the time to post that on just one of the many posts here? That’s when and why I decided to make that thread.

From comments on the forum I know that some people think I’m doing ANet’s job for them as a favor to ANet and to suck up to ANet (I was outright told that in a thread on this forum). I’m not. I’m doing it as a favor to the other posters on this forum and I’m doing it because ANet’s not doing their own job by making relevant information centralized and easily accessible. Whether ANet likes me doing it is irrelevant to me and personally I hope it embarrasses them a little. Who knows, maybe it will embarrass them enough that one day they’ll do their own job and make sure that posts on non official sites get cross posted on their official form.

+1 I’m ur fan! And yes Gaile has been an army of 1 pretty much and that’s putting a lot on one persons shoulders considering the size of the corporation.

I’m sorry but I find this disturbing….

why so much hate towards HOT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kamara.4187

Kamara.4187

as far as i know, A.net didn’t lie about the expansion… every single feature/content that i saw they announce made it into the game.

in the AngryJoe interview, they said loud and clear that “this is a feature focused expansion instead of a content focused one”, so everyone who bought HOT knew exactly what they were getting.

if you put it on your mind that their would be a thousand hours worth of content, a 50-hours story or 20 different maps, even though they never even hinted at anything like that, then you have nothing to complain about…

What I was mainly upset about is they were very misleading about how it would impact small micro guilds. Their statement was “Small guilds would be respected” and in the end that was a lie because small guilds got the shaft.

Every upgrade I had invested in the guild for WvW was made useless over night, which is my preferred game mode. The other thing I hate is features we already had like auto loot suddenly became part of the expansions progression and got ripped away. Too bad if you were a pvp or WvW focused player because if you want that feature back you need to go PvE.

Players stop looking forward to expansions when investments they have made in a game get axed with expansions.

There are things I do like about HOT, but I spent real money (were talking a little over 1k in less than a yr.) pouring into this game. I spend less now thanks to those brilliant moves.
