as any gamer should know, big patches mean sometimes thing break. There really no need to be so mad though, it just a game. Of course, I be mad if i were to say paying a monthly fee, but since you only pay once and that it, no more, no reason to be mad. The game is still playable, so no reason to be mad.

Thats not an excuse. I’ve been playing MMO’s for well over a decade. I could play on a emulator and not pay a dime, but when I purchase something I expect it to work. If not I usually return it and ask for my money back.

This industry has been plowing over its customers for a long time, and its getting worse. Good internal testing would have prevented all the disruptions. Instead they chose to save money by using us to beta test it instead of paid professionals. .

Dueling etiquette in WvW

For me the problem would be solved if there was an arena for it in the battlegrounds. That way I’d know “hey these guys are just dueling”. However I don’t want to see that take over and start messing with battle que times.

I’m in WvW to do just that, but I do get that some have friends on other servers or just want to sharpen their skills in 1v1.

As a new WvW player its been a very frustrating and expensive change. Trying to sort out what gear options I originally needed, then having to switch because of the changes, and it may change again because everything is borked!!!

Also the option to change your ascended gear should have been completely free……Yep I’m ticked off and about to cancel my pre orders for HoT.

You are suggesting a whole new title system which would probably take much more effort than just changing the numbers.

Which might make up for the fact that they have neglected this community to a shameful degree.

The titles are lame, the stretch to get them is unrealistic, and don’t really promote more people wanting to come WvW with us.

Added note: What I’d like to see is the laurel vendors cut back (more) on the laurel requirement and up the honor points. That would encourage more people coming to WvW to get honor points.

However it would be up to us as a community to stop treating the new and learning WvW player badly if we are to keep them.

Here is my two cents on my favorite class in WvW (as a new to game player).

Ranger can bring a great deal to the table by providing cover for the team from wall attacks as they set up and operate the rams. However often you’ll have a “out of range” or “obstructed” when firing at an enemy on top of the wall when you actually have a clear LOS.

Now from the defensive role I find it incredibility nuts that barrage can’t be fired down on the enemy from the top of the walls while arrow carts can now fire around walls.

If your out of supply it sure would be nice if that rangers barrage could act like a portable arrow cart, be it defending or storming the castle. It is already a limited special because it locks you into place in order to use it or it cancels.

Seriously? that is one of the two specials that are the most effective offensively (which is why every ranger uses them) and one locks you down or cancels out the attack while the majority of defense for the class is based on mobility and speed.

Point blank and hunters shot are actually defensive skills on the the attack bar. I play other classes, and defensive stuff is usually on the utility bar (in most cases). So ranger has one really good attack with a LB but if you don’t equip and stack your traits just right for that one special you’ll be way pointing alot in WvW after you’ve been spiked.

Spirits? Utterly usless. I’m a mid weight class that has to stay mobile to survive. I don’t have time to play ring around the spirit that gives me a useless 3 second boon that may or may not deliver depending on if it decides to proc. Who thought that was a good idea?

Short bow? Huge disappointment. I actually find it to be more of a utility bar with sub-par attacks.

Greatsword? Who is the developer that is such a fanboy of the kitten greatsword? Light and medium classes shouldn’t be going toe to toe with warriors. In fact you might survive if you don’t allow them to close on you.

Pets have one attack with a long cool-down? My guardian aside from having an attack and utility bar has something similar to the extra bar that rangers have for pets, but the guardian gets three specials out of their third bar.

If I could ask for anything for ranger it would be that its run speed boost be removed from signet of the hunt and put somewhere on the survival tree, and that "all condi cleansing was tied to a dodge roll. leaving the utility bar open for evades and traps.

Then it might be nice to have some more useful attacks instead of one really really good attack.

So, you don’t want people to be able to disengage or retreat from combat? Knowing when you’re beat, and being able to successfully escape, are part of most of the PvP games I’ve played.

Yes and no. You have to admit that ports do bring something very different to the table when a fist full of combatants can suddenly escape combat at the same time.

Here’s your answer, the new maps are not a part of HoT. Thus, has nothing to do with someone purchasing HoT.

I believe they should let T1 get a crack at killing, I mean “stressing”, the server’s. No ones going to test it like we would.

I’m ok with that. At least I know you all are geared out for it and will be a solid representation of how many actual object calls during a WvW event are being made to the server.

If I had been asked by development to set up a controlled stress I would have snapped up on your offer.

And even though I bought 4 pre orders I would step aside because that would be the better choice for the health of WvW future play in my honest opinion.

About the Portals on Towers/Keeps

In my opinion it should be dangerous being close to an enemies keep. I am amused that some classes can hide in enemy keeps though, I don’t play one of those classes that usually are equipped to do so.

With that being said most games choke exploits that allow players to escape active combat, but here it seems they embraced the opposite which leave me to wonder what can they do at this point?

It is my honest opinion that the current process of producing superior siege is outdated, especially taking in the new system in context. You have to create them ONE at a time; of which it is pretty absurd. So it is my unfortunate assessment that wvw was not taken into account.

What would be some reasonable ways to tackle this?

To compensate for the harder to obtain shards, would it be reasonable to change the pricing, to say 1 shard for 2-3 guides, sell for badges, or allow it be possible to craft them— perhaps we could get some wvw specific crafting siege materials.

Do away with the paper seige and let superior take its place on the vendor for the same price since the reward is so little in WvW.

That would be my suggestion…and I do agree with you on this one :P

Added Note: Even when I was in my most noobish gear starting out in WvW the paper seige really just kind of tickled and wasn’t really effective as it should have been.

Another solution would be to do away with superior seige and bring the paper stuff up to superior standards and leaving it on the vendors.

I came back because I wanted to add that targeting poor (most) WvW players for the material and credit sink for making siege is a huge negative to WvW in general.

WvW players are usually very dedicated to staying on the map and expecting them to leave the map to farm materials or gold so they can craft siege is a negative to WvW teams and players. Anet got their money when everyone bought the game so creating obstacles that try to force ppl to buy gems instead is nothing short of gouging players by design. Please stop. At least where WvW is concerned.

I will give it to the designer of the new trait panel. Its interesting with the 3 stacked choices in a given trait line and how they can connect with a string of light. graphically the icons are a little bland. But other than that the work on it wasn’t bad. I just think the other build was more interesting as a player.

I’m a new GW2 player which also makes me the target market for selling HoT to. I am unique in the fact that I got to taste both the old and the new build as a new player.

Truth be told the old was more dynamic, appealing, with better balance. I’m not sure why they changed it other than they thought dumming it down made it more marketable, which is often not the case.

They have disabled the guardian skill now…which means one thing addressed and another thing broken. But hey at least they jumped on this one and shut it down, which means we are not being totally ignored. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

For the most part drops and rewards are craptactular in WvW, but once in a blue moon you may get an ascended drop. It does happen but its pretty rare.

Those that have been doing WvW haven’t been doing it for anything other than the pure love for WvW.

I’m not too worried about a “special group” doing a stress test which usually only amounts to logging in in mass at one location.

Its when the “special friends” are picked for testing and roll out tragic wrecks because they are not really bug hunters or number crunchers that’s a problem.

I also hope that actual WvW focused players helped with the map choice rather than those that don’t really do much WvW.

If not we’re going to be having a talk about “special friends” next…….

Way to backhandedly accuse me of being a plant because my opinion doesn’t agree with yours and you’re unable to provide a logical counter argument, not a direct accusation of course because that is too obvious and doesn’t provide plausible deniability. Thanks, but no thanks. I could care less if you don’t buy the expansion, not sure why you care whether others buy it. Don’t buy it, in fact. I wouldn’t give my money a company that I felt didn’t deserve it either.

I named no one with my statement. But I have combed the forum here carefully. I do recall reading some of your other post, and yes for the most part it does appear you’ve done a great deal of damage control.
What motivates you to do so? I don’t know, and I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that.
I have also defended a game several times in my life, but because I lived through a major melt down with another game my trust in the industry is fractured at best, and I am very leary if I begin to see similar patterns as those from that event.

That’s my baggage. I wish it was different, and I certainly hope that I am wrong because not only did I purchase this game x4 plus x4 pre orders (before the changes) for my family I’ve also spent a great deal in the gem store. Enough to make most peoples credit cards smoke.

Yes they are blindsiding changes and in fact radical. A few weeks? That is exactly the same amount of time given by the most epic blindsiding in MMO history. (If you know your MMO’s you know who I’m talking about)

I am giving them the benefit of a doubt by still being here, but had I not pre ordered 4 expansions for my entire family I’m not so sure that would be the case.

So I’m patiently waiting to see, but if it turns south I won’t be hanging around and reliving it for a second time.

I don’t look at this as a beta test for expansion. I look at it as a period of time before a new meta takes a firm hold on everyone. Back when this game launched there were no metas either. It is difficult to adjust from a time with a mature and stable meta to one where there is no defined meta.

No offence but I don’t sugarcoat reality or make excuses for an industry that has a long history of biting the hand that feeds them.

I may be new to GW2 but I am by no means new to gaming or what goes on on both sides of a game. Things like bugs, exploits, hacks are going to happen and sooner rather than later be addressed in updates. Priority usually depends on how game breaking an issue is.

The industry is well aware that their target market are no longer Nintendo kids. Gamer’s are now adults, but they continue to ignore or address them as if they were clueless kids.

These are blindsiding changes that were decided behind closed doors with a “select” few making the call to radically alter what you have already paid for.

No other industry gets away with doing that to consumers.

To be honest right now I’m kinda kittened off with the changes. I paid for a finished game, not to beta test for an expansion (which I pre ordered 4x before the changes). I can tell you from experience they dumped this on the community and didn’t spend nearly enough time testing it internally.

The only other time I’ve seen something like this was when another industry giant desperately tried to capture the Asian market with their game and instead ended up alienating their playerbase with blindsiding changes, and failed to capture the market that they were willing to risk everything for.

I feel like I’m watching history repeat itself.

What is in essence a reward system for veteran players happens to also be a penalty against the new player entering WvW for the first time.

Not to mention that it is also a penalty against the server that has the most new players.

In my opinion it wasn’t a very well thought out system to begin with.

Here let me save you some time. What your looking for is the rich boy server that can afford to buy/entice large guilds to come play on their server. They are the only ones that can enjoy 24/7 coverage.

The only one that doesn’t have to do that is TC because they tagged themselves as also being the unofficial rp server and they bridge with piken square (euro server) which is the euro rp server. Who would have thunk it that rpers also WvW.

But good luck getting on that server. Its packed.

Dueling etiquette in WvW

I’ve had enemy players camp our return path to the keep in order to route reinforcements. In truth I don’t always know who is a duelist or not and after being taken out a few times like that you get jumpy and do what’s natural when someone has a red tag over their head.

I’m not trying to argue, I’m just stating examples from some of my experiences. I have also stood back and let duels happen but honestly it made me uncomfortable and question my judgement for not coming to the aid of a teammate.

Another time I happened upon a duel a guildie was engaged in, and after they explained to me what was going on I then felt obligated to police interference for them.

So in essence duels are putting some of us in awkward positions.

Duo PU Mesmer Scouts IMBA

I’ve heard that people employ Duo PU mesmers scouts who shadow the enemy zerg RIGHT BESIDE THEM with 100% invis uptime.

Please fix this.

Edit: I forgot to add, they lay supply traps all along the path that the zerg will most likely walk and the zerg ends up with zero supply.

edit 2: i also forgot to add, duo mesmers hiding in keeps/towers/smc/garri and flipping it without being found while they hid cos they were perma stealth!

Its not 100% invis uptime. Mesmers have 2 abilities only that let them stealth each other and it only lasts a few secs and their individual abilities do not cover the rest. They have to LOS the zerg to fill in the gaps, then it may seem like it is 100% cause you won’t see them, but that is a perfectly solid tactic on their part, especially if they have to coordinate use of their abilities, including an elite skill.

Which is really not difficult to do if they are using any form of voice chat like most WvW players do.

People like me who have played one class as a main from the beginning of the game are being rolled by newbies with a cheese builds. I refuse to give this game anymore of my time when they are doing NOTHING to support my play style or give us power builds a chance. Why should we be forced into playing in a way or class that we do not like?! I thought before the patch was bad but GG anet… you definitely proved me wrong.

You sorta answered your own question. I hate passive condi play as much as anyone, but most new players will give up if there’s not some sort of button smash build that will give them a chance against players that have mastered one build / one class for the last two, almost three years now. I’m not saying the new player should actually win fights, but they need something that is easier to play so they at least feel they have a chance.

Anet has always kept such builds in the fold. Ten years later, there’s still ppl playing blood spike in GW1 GvG’s when all it requires is face roll from left to right on keyboard. Like it or not, the e-z mode build thing is part of the MMO genre so new players don’t quit straight away, like they do in games such as Quake when they are murdered over and over, with no chance whatsoever because of the massive skill gap, and steep learning curve.

That’s really painting new players with a very broad brush. I am that new player and in my opinion the classes are so borked they need to roll it back.

Aside from that Thieves have enjoyed a very long run being the 1v1 FOTM according to the forum post here. I mean its almost like I woke up and was playing WoW again. Did they hire the thief fanboy from over there or something?

Good/Bad Idea: Infiltrator's JP

My WvW server is small compared to what we have been up against on both sides. Tonight we fought tooth and nail to hold on to our garrison against a swarm of enemy. We held them off for over an hour before the inevitable face roll. Your proposal in effect is just handing them the keys to the gate with little or no fight. In fact its really unnecessary because this pattern always produces the same outcome where players finally just stop logging into WvW at all. So if your on a higher WvW pop server than one of your competitors you only have to sit tight for a little while and you can take your objective without a fight from the other side in due time.

Other than that Mesmer’s are already hiding in keeps after they have been taken back, then port their team players back inside. Some have hidden for hours avoiding detection because if found it usually ends badly for the mesmer. However if they pull it off the reward is indeed great.

So in my opinion maybe it could be used for pve, but in WvW I’d say its already pretty exciting hiding in the enemy’s keep without getting busted.

Actually just made it to the silverwaste about a week ago. Had the game going on 4 -5 (bought 4 copies for the entire family including pre orders for HoT) months maybe and most of my time was spent in WvW. So yeah if someone cares to give pointers on a boss, or directions its appreciated.

not sure if this has been reported yet but several in map chat said it was also happening to them randomly.

Damage over time has a long history in MMO’s as being a problem area, especially for pvp yet they amplified it. Its true…history is doomed to repeat itself.

Please don’t call me or anyone else out. Not only is it against the forum rules, but trying to draw attention to your own set of issues isn’t fair to everyone else that’s speaking for themselves. It’s also annoying. I can’t and won’t offer any such special treatment and besides, I don’t speak for Arenanet. But since this conversation is going somewhere, I guess I’ll speak for myself…

The issue of ascended progression is a hot button topic especially for alt-heavy people (and account bound is STILL annoying as hell to swap around and IMO not a sufficient solution), and had they stuck with their gears to raise it to 10% I would have it higher in the priority list, but as it stands it remains an non-critical, though still existent issue.

The backpiece issue I just don’t see as a gigantic one because you can craft a cheap exotic backpiece for a few gold and it is better than comparable exotic backpieces even considering it can only take a l65 thingy. It’s also the most marginal increase of stats. Furthermore, the backpieces that require relics are connected directly with pve content— so naturally it’s going to have to require pve. My server didn’t die when I went to get Mawdrey; I don’t think any individual is THAT important unless they all go out to pve. In any case, 5/8 of my characters are using those crafter backpacks.

I think it’s fair enough to suggest ways to obtain a wvw ascended backpiece and earrings (I think earrings are annoying as well). And badge gear I would say is in a bad shape atm as well.

As for the pvp/wvw thing. Well, PvP was designed to be a competition with normalized builds and wvw ultimately, as much as a lot of us would hate to say it, is ultimately connected to pve or else they would have never had pve gear in here in the first place. Are the rewards for WvW crap? Yes, yes, they are. I don’t really care too much since I still am churning out more ascended pieces and the only real pve I do these days is Teq and quick dailies (and not even that much anymore). So for gearing status


Guardian- full asc, although alternate roaming set is like 2/6 asc armor.
Engineer- 4/6 exotic armor, rest asc. Interestingly, one of the armor pieces was found
Necro Exotic armor, rest asc
Ele- Exotic armor, earrings & back, rest asc
Ranger- Exotic armor, bp, secondary weapons, rest asc
Thief- Exotic armor except for asc chest,(found, omg) bp , rest asc)
Warrior- Exotics except for rings
Mesmer- Exotics except for rings

Does it matter? Of course, and I’ve complained about this in the past, but I wouldn’t really call it a game breaking issue. Yea, I know I could go to SW and grind legendaries, but then what?

Could it be better? Of course; it always can.

Who do we appeal to as WvW players to get some consideration from development?

Why do we have to go PvE and abandon a 24/7 competition to finish out our gear while our honor points remain pretty much useless?

I’m sitting on two backpacks I can’t finish out because it demands I abandon what I really purchased the game for to go do fractals.

Some servers are already struggling to have player coverage 24/7 on the map.

Also I wish I had come to the forum and read before I purchased this game because the WvW community feels completely overlooked and as I’ve learned in the short time I’ve been here going through update releases and forum post they have a reason to feel that way.

sounds like the collision is a tad off lol. BTW most of the best bug bust I’ve ever seen were found by accident

I disagree. As one who appreciates the lore they lost sight of the fact it was suppose to be a Krytan city, not sylvari…

The new lions arch is a mix of all the races architecture.

Which is why I said it was homogenized. I’m not calling the work bad. The content developers are very talented, but the lore took a hit in my honest opinion. And if it was a mix of all races I’m not seeing anything that looks close to Norn-ish

My issue is I’ve worked on emulators that released cleaner pushes than this. Who is beta testing? Are they not being given enough time to go through and test all the content?

I don’t like it. Its krytan features have been turned into some homogenized elf/plant city that has no resemblance to its foundation.
