The reward track was a step in the right direction.
Rotating the desert map and not completely scrapping it was a step in the right direction (though it still needs more wp’s for its size).
Linking did help remedy dying wvw servers, though it has not been the universal fix we were all hoping for.
But seriously thank you all for listening and trying. At this point I’m not sure what could be done or even how to go about it. WvW issues are pretty complex with the community compounding them in many different way. I was one of those that thought linking would have worked out better than it ended up being<shrugs>
1. Population balance. Linking didn’t work. Locking servers didn’t work. Anet needs to either lower map caps, close maps, force 2v1 so that stack to win isn’t the meta anymore.
2. Skill balance. The reason for the decline lately is the fact that lower numbers cannot win against higher numbers. Damage mitigation needs to go. You should have to actively heal and cleanse to show you have some skill in WvW. Make it fun to play WvW when you are outnumbered.
3. Rewards. I don’t mean higher rewards for the stacked. I mean rewards for those that play a long time. More rewards for those that are outmanned. Rewards that can be used in PvE that will encourage PvE players to join WvW. Make EotM rewards take way longer than WvW rewards.
4. Treat WvW like it is core to GW2. If WvW is core to GW2 then have better communication with the players on the forums, fix known bugs with the maps quickly to show us that you treat WvW as core to GW2. Stop shifting WvW resources to the next PvE release so that only the easy and quick fixes get released in WvW. Invest in WvW. Fix the lag issues. If you can’t fix lag when it’s 80v80, but it works good enough when it’s 50v50 then change the map cap to 50. Of course you could look at changing the skills and skill effects so that lag happens less in WvW.
5. Make me want to play WvW again.

We don’t need new pretty artwork for the UI, we need a way to save our wvw server communities that have been bent over the desk in favor of revolving super guilds and T1 servers….I swear its like they are in an alternate reality and just “don’t get it!”

Which made me wonder whether WvW has really received significantly more or less communication than usual this year (well, last year, 2016), and whether the sense of no communication is a self-delusion created by salty players, or whether its really true.

Now, 3 caveats to note here:

That said, there are some conclusions we could draw from this:
- WvW has received more communication in 2016 than it did in 2015.
- The proportion of attention that WvW receives as a whole of communication across all areas was significantly higher in 2016 than previous years.
- However, this is still significantly less than PvE (3x more) and PvP (2x more).
- The 2016 boost comes from a flurry of activity in Q2, the rest of the year is “as usual”.
- Looking at previous years, the difference between WvW and PvE/PvP communication was much larger than in 2016, which may explain why WvWers have a pre-conception that they are not communicated with.
But maybe the numbers are skewed by 1 or 2 monster threads with 100+ posts? Well, lets see….

Nope. Infact, quite the opposite, it looks like WvW does very well in terms of the breadth of different red-users engaging.
So I think this shows what we all already knew; that while the engagement has been better in 2016 than 2015, that’s still not really saying very much given that the engagement through 2014/2015 was so low.

Yes OP you are 100% correct. They lower the skill floor as much as it can possibly go. They make fights an utter bore where I can’t be killed unless I’m focused by 3-4+ players for an extended period of time. When 2 dire/trailblazer opponents meet its the boringest fight ever created……you keep fighting till 1 or BOTH of you get bored and quit. For a game that has no death penalty and pretty much instant respawn, these stats are horrible.
Condi really is the meta, anyone telling you otherwise hasn’t played it and has no idea what proper condi zergs can do……it will BLOOOOW your mind. A proper bunker won’t save you from a proper condi attack. Aoe cc, boonstrip, condi bomb, done. Make a mistake? Don’t worry you take no damage anyways unless 4x as many enemy zerg members focus you with power damage.it reallllly should be nerfed somehow. Or just not exist…..viper and sinister are a perfect balance that enables counterplay. If people played viper/sinister instead we wouldn’t have a problem, and fights wouldn’t last so long, and the servers would be less laggy.

No not a troll post. 1v1 I hold my own with the build but like I said if I am coming out ahead most out run my mesmer and get away. If that is not the issue there is an insane amount of condi cleanse to counter the build. I can escape a 2v1, but no I’ve never won a 2v1 on that build. Skill-wise I’m average with not the best rural internet connection (I live in the sticks). The build is fun to play, but it is a very slow killer, and an even slower runner. The biggest challenges my opponents face is nailing me down, which there are several classes that can do that with ease. Its a frustrating fight for those that can’t keep up with where I’ll appear next, but for those that understand the class its a short fight because they quickly re-target my avatar and finish her off pretty quick.

I don’t see a problem with it. It would only be a game changer for those playing outside of intended parameters that make a practice of spying on the enemy with a friendly alt account. In fact if development really cared about wvw they would do this.
My timing for entering the GW2 game had to be the worse ever! I was a new player with around 4 or 5 months of hard obsessive playing before all the changes took place, and when I discovered WvW… it was love at first sight.
My first server was randomly picked for me. It was a small, mid tier server, and from what I was told it had suffered many upsets with guild transfers before I entered the picture.
In spite of this there was a “strong-pull-together-attitude” that made running with different guilds at odd hours feel seamless. I loved the sense of team play and did everything I could do to help.
Then after several match-ups of getting steamrolled and demoralized by servers that stacked and simply had more numbers and coverage in wvw than we did, I logged in one day and everyone started transferring off. Including the guild I was in who didn’t bother to fill me in. Granted I was a green player and not that good at the time, but it was kind of a kick in the gut especially when I thought of them as friends.
So as I reflect back I guess what I really loved most was what “I thought that server community was” rather than what it really ended up being. I’m happy to say I moved on and like where I am now, but the blurred lines of server link ups has been more harmful than good for those looking for a structured community to build and work with rather than large guild cliques being blindly catered to by development.
I never thought I’d say this but DB and BP has been a great linking and I wish we could just merge. However that really don’t fix server hopping issues. I think what its going to have to come down to is to register for a wvw season, and end free to play in wvw due to the amount of exploiting and the lack of GM monitoring. That’s my 2 cents.
For me its this simple. I want to stay in wvw. I joined a guild that is mainly wvw focused. Wvw demands coverage 24/7. Yet there are things I don’t have access to unless I do other game modes. Things required for crafting decorations for the guildhall. I understand not having access to materials to make certain trophies for particular game modes, but fragments of ocean? And don’t even get me started talking about raid rewards.

Yes there are three ways out of the EB main spawn. Go explore hun lol. there is one to the right one to the left and one in the center.
I don’t have a single toon that can tick for that much condi damage. In fact I usually run with lots of condi clear but if I get hit with that one necro attack in 4 ticks I’m down. In fact its so great I decided to dust off my necro and start running it.
I dont get one shotted that often or did i say it happen on my guard. all i said is that thiefs can almost one shot and perma inturrupt someone even after 2 stun breaks for ex. and shatter mesmers well… sometimes u just get a “wtf jist hit me that my 18k health went puff?” While fighting mesmers and u remember seeing a lot of ghosts running towards u after u dodge roll or break out of stun…
If u ever die to a thief as a dh then it means u are playing badly and its ur problem.
thief and mesmer is never op compare to current dh in wvw and it doesnt even req skills to play like mesmer or thief does to be effective
Totally disagree. In pvp I hold my own pretty good on a DH, in WvW the class is limping by comparison.
Yet the majority of players in WvW play Guardian, funny how that works…
Funny all I mainly see are crono’s and rangers. My condi mesmer fairs much better than the DH in wvw, yet in pvp they do about the same for my skill level.
In Wvw the other night not all of the world object loaded in for me after waypointing. I was able to walk in and out of where a wall was suppose to be, and also target enemy players while my team was sieging a gate. There was no collision at all. it was as if I alone could see the hole and walk in and out of it.
Sorry I know this is the worse bug report ever and I should have reported it when it was fresh in my mind but I hope it still helps.
I wanted to add that it was not repeatable for me. It only happened that one time and I didn’t attempt to duplicate it.

Defending is not very fun. While others get to run around looking for fights the defenders are doing all the heavy lifting “MUNDANE WORK” like refreshing the siege, checking the walls, and finishing repairs that others couldn’t be bothered to stay around to finish. Defenders also take a facerolling a little more personal because of those sacrifices made and have quit wvw altogether after their side was completely demoralized.
I love gliding. It would be a hoot to shoot others out of the sky and be shot at, but our defenders have already paid for every single bad decision ever made about the wvw game mode. The maps we have now wouldn’t work and would require a total wvw map overhaul to make it work. That’s my 2 cents.
WvW is no longer required for map completion, and hasn’t been for years. The only thing holding you back from map completion is core tyria maps

Could the modeling department please come get their stuff off my floors? I mean really! Were these people raised in a barn? (Just kidding around :P)
But on a serious note could someone unparent some objects taking up some prime guildhall real estate? Like in the tavern? And by the upper most way point where a single building has a stage in it that is cluttered with objects?
Also a single vendor behind the bar with multiple tabs would work as well as three NPC vendors. Granted that’s a big one that would require some code clean up, but hey its almost winter’s day and “here is wishing for a winter’s day Dev.”
Its just a carrot on a stick so you will stay around for the facerolling. Match ups are all about the special friends and servers at the top…..
keeping my cool after reading the patch notes while all the promises of the past echo in my mind. Seeing the worse of the worse being catered to in the top tier musical server bandwagon-super-guilds at the expense of entire server communities.
High mobile classes that can enter and leave combat is a very abusive mechanic for roamer. i know this topic isnt something new. but how its abused makes other classes like druids and thieves and warriors significantly better than the rest. is not so much the instant full health that bothers me. its the classes abusing the cooldowns
so when a player engages a fight with a theif, and successfully lands their elite skill or a skill with a significantly high cooldown. that theif can blink away and use high mobility to leave combat. re enter combat with full health. making that skill wasted. even though you played correctly as intended.
my only suggestion is whenever a player leaves combat. they dont regen their health instantly to full. they either must find a safe spot to use their heals or regen, heal on the go
Why is it fair that some classes can negate all physical damage while waiting out their cool downs? Why do some classes have passive traits that punish perfect burst or Cc? Those aren’t fair why should they be rewarded for failing to properly dodge an attack/Cc while at the same time CC’ing the attacker without the press of a button? At least disengaging and Re-engaging is an actual strategy and not passive gameplay. It’s called thinking strategically and wanting to win you use the classes/builds advantages to secure a victory.
And if they are out of combat so are you….. not simple to grasp you will only die if you wast CDs trying to chase them.
Oh I see now you are a Necro main…… hence the salt on mobility classes, yet has some of the most passive gameplay on certain builds in game to date.

The way they have it set up now with the server linking there is no escaping it. I transferred down in fact from the server you are on just to see the same soul crushing blobs roll over the nice little community I found.
WvW as a game mode works, doesn’t mean that it’s good. when the expectations of a game mode from a players viewpoint is so low that it’s easy to say that the game mode isn’t broken.
its not about the competitive environment at all. if you wanted a competitive environment you can join (if you’re lucky) a T1 server for an competitive environment. but for player that are in your normal WvW environment. its when players play the game as intended, Put in time and effort to complete an objective, just to have their hard effort go down the drain, just because they get butt fisted by the amassing amount of bad game mechanics that are literally in every aspect of WvW. and those massing numbers of bad non intuitive game mechanics and issues, serve as barriers that stop people from wanting to play WvW
It is true that its human nature to find the easy way. but in any game. it shouldn’t come at the expense of another players fun or enjoyment

To the topic we’ll see if anything spills over into WvW from the patch. If not, then we have to wait and see what the devs have in store. Maybe nothing, maybe something. Until then it is all speculations anyway and I don’t see a drastic disable happening anytime soon.

The OP expressed an opinion that things need to be re-built.
I totally share this sentiment & will continue to encourage ANet to see a Long Term Solution to properly build Communities…instead of implementing mechanics (World Linking) that destroys them.
ANet is being forced to implement these complex solutions to fix problems that’s rooted in a flawed core base design…imho
If the core base is not designed to naturally deal with the problems associated with the flow of Match-Ups and Population In-Balances…the developers will forever be stuck in putting out fires with complex solutions…which in the future…creates more fires.
Vicious cycle of complex solutions & complex problems.
Resources can never be used to expand & evolve the game mode into something epic.
The below vision that I’m proposing is very simple & not that drastic, but it’s been proven that it can’t be discussed in this thread.

I agree with the ranking daily. When you start getting up there in rank its not going to happen in a day, which is a jerk move on the part of the developers to put something so ridiculous in! Truth its a slap in the face!
Eh what? WvW ranks is a fixed amount of XP no matter if you are rank 50 or 5000. Getting 2 ranks is like 30 minutes if you EB zerg, maybe an hour otherwise. There is nothing hard about it.
Either way, the dailies are there to encourage you to play all the aspects of the game. Not just WvW. Some are more annoying than the rest, true. But if you do something in PvE for less than 5 minutes, maybe do a single sPvP match and WvW for less than 5 minutes you are basicly guaranteed completing the 2g daily. It has to be really kittenty RNG to fail.
If you only do WvW dailies to complete it – which undoubtedly will take longer – then that is your choice. People complaining about this only have themselves to blaim. Dont want to do easy dailies? Then dont complain.

Yes Kamara… and THAT is another one of the problems with the dailies that just came to mind. There seriously should be a daily that involves maintaining a Keep for a specified period of time… or refreshing a certain number of siege etc.
The fact that there are so very few people like you is disappointing… but the fact that there ARE people like you there that actually help your team have a chance against an incoming blob because the siege was still there is a blessing!
ANet should really make a new daily that involves siege maintenance in Keeps!
Thank you Tim and I appreciate all that you do for our server and team. +1 for anything that will promote refreshing siege and help defenders. I like to run around looking for fights and having fun also, but I learned early on that its your defenders that not only help hold objectives, but are often also the commanders eyes in many cases. Its a team effort

I’ve arrived at the point to where I believe all this has been an intentional shake up to an unaware gaming community for the study and development of an algorithm. It happens but its more common with free to play games. Was that the reason behind the free to play move?

They may not be but that don’t mean other servers don’t get linked to go up against them….Seriously I was in T1 and transferred hoping to escape some of the clusterblobbing, even if it was just by a little bit.
It would make my day if someone told me I never had to deal with the blobbing and stalemates ever again. What I fell in love with with wvw was the sense of community and team-work. Sadly I then witnessed that server demoralized and soul crushed by other servers that stacked and played in the off hours for an easy advantage.
Today 99% of them are all in the top tiers locked in where they truly deserve one another lol.

My original thought was, that the defending team should have the advantage when defending their tower/keep even if outnumbered, so they stand a chance of repelling the bigger group. Would make only sense, since attacking a fortified installation has always been a hard military operation for the attacker.
Yet with shield generators ArenaNet made it even easier for the attacker to take any tower/keep, making defending an even harder job then it was before. Yes you can make shield generators for defence, but in the long run, the bigger group wins, thus negating any chance for outnumbered defenders to keep their forts.
Just sayin’ its kitten annoying.

I remember that poll and yes I voted along with many other wvw players. While I agreed with most the desert map had many issues I didn’t want to see all that work completely trashed. Some things about it were very cool, while others were very frustrating. Like having to jump then face plant to go to the armor repair guy because the modeling Dev couldn’t be bothered to put stairs by the WP…Now that was a jerk design if ever there was one!

Probably also a reason why the linkings in EU will never be balanced.
To sum this up:
14 servers have specific language requirements complicating linking
14 servers have to be linked in a way to balance out the aforementioned language requirements.
You know that is an interesting dilemma but it is do-able. WvW right now pretty much has its own language bl=borderland, nwc= northwest camp. Turn those into recognizable icons for chat, or utilize click location in chat with swords on it? I run with a herd of asians in the morning and believe me when I say I am totally lost by what they are putting in the chat box but I get what they mean when they put the location in chat with “help plz” lol.
I don’t mind that our language is different. They are good players and teammates.
What bothers me the most about wvw right now is watching server communities decimated by musical guilds moving in, then moving out, and communities being rolled over to promote match-ups for the top tiers. That and I witnessed admin powers being abused for the benefit of a team that already had overwhelming numbers. So I’m not very hopeful when it appears by design they wanted it this way, and as long as its good for them the rest of us don’t seem to matter.
I was a bit surprised about ‘Aurene’ at first, and for some reason started singing Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” whenever I heard my characters say the name, but I’ve grown to like it a lot.
I was thinking the baby dragon was going to be named like the rest of her family members (Glint/Glaust, Gleam). I really liked the idea of it being called ‘Glimmer’.

here is the new scoring changes we experienced last night while greatly out numbered and getting faced rolled. Staff claimed a camp…I have no issue with staff playing but when that admin tag shows it usually goes along with admin powers and that is not acceptable in competitive play. I’m more than a little upset over this having worked on emulators with better ethics…after taking the screenshot I just logged off vowing to never spend another dime on this game.
Have less sympathy for people on this subject. I watched a guild get built up over time to being fully upgraded by a group of five people. Five. Not a super guild. Did it take work? Yes. Why should it be easy and cheap? It shouldn’t, as it provides a lot of benefits, as pointed out. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities for small guilds. It’s not easy. So what if you have to put in work and effort. It’s not impossible. Being something that you have to work towards does not make it pay to win….it’s called working towards your goal.
Not to mention I’ve seen plenty of large guilds accept people from smaller guilds as associate members in order to use guild buffs without requiring them to rep or be held to the same rules as full members. If you don’t want to have to do the work on your own.

I’m over on waiting on the west coast team to figure this out when there are stacks of solid suggestions being ignored in favor of some minority groups opinion. When all else fails start doing research to find who the movers and shakers are in the corporate structure and take your questions and grief to their tweeter accounts. Reddit is nothing when you really want to get something done. And there is more than one avenue to make things happen. Perhaps it will give them something to read while they have an inhouse massage at NCSofts research and development center…Questions are after all perfectly reasonable., and no one said we had to waste years on waiting for an answer.

I believe you are correct because the problem could be easily stopped if there was a penalty. Like losing all your wvw bonuses.
Cannons were great if you were greatly outnumbered…problem is those that don’t need them can vote them away like everything else concerning wvw.
Truth? From what I’m witnessing I’m not sure who the enemy really is anymore. There is so much drama and in fighting between server links I’m ready to throw my hands up. This is suppose to be fun! Not non-stop B******* in team, squad, and map chat….

I agree with the OP. Everything has been stacked in favor of the super guilds. From paying for guild transfers, guild hall upgrades, everything. The small wvw guild has been decimated.
the class is torn between two realms of existence. (shrugs) that is the way I always assumed it to be anyhow.
I thought it was interesting that the trailer showed a flash of Jora’s statue. And I wonder if something about her and her past is woven into the story? Either way I love how they set this up and introduced it in the trailer! If the storyline is half as good as their presentation its going to be awesome!
This is the first living story that I’m really excited about, but I’m a norn nut with heavy wvw focus. Now I’m gonna have to knock out the other living stories like my avatars hair was set on fire so I can do this one lol.
If you just want the episode and map, you can play them out of order and can jump straight into this one if you aren’t fussed about context.
