I get what you’re saying now. Yes it will work because you are not using two of the same sigils at once because you are actually just swapping them when changing environments.

and yes I used BL and corruption together at one time.

Don’t you guys have the impression that the reaction around here is very much like the kneejerk people were ranting about for WHaO? The spec has barely been tried out for a couple of days, yet it’s already being branded broken, useless or OP, in its entirety or in details. It’ll take weeks at least for people to get the bigger picture after the meta adapts around the new specs.

personally I havent branded it as any of those things. Its certainly not useless though, that’s probably the least merited complaint. Secondly, it is not polished like everyone was hoping it would even though it took so long to release it. Lots of issues about identity I would say. The direction is clear; healing, but that’s not really an identity in GW2.

No one knows if it has a place yet cuz we have never needed healers, and some people are skeptical that anet can create content that requires it given the current system, so I understand the issues that people have in that regard.

I would say 90% of the criticism in this thread is highly constructive and certainly not knee-jerk, just observational, maybe mixed with a little unexpected uneasiness.

I agree with your statement Zatoichi. People are trying to remain open minded, and those that have been playing the class, and main the class, are also entitled to their opinion which should not be disregarded so easily.

This game still fly’s under a guild wars brand, and we expect it to keep the promises and vision that attracted us to invest in it from the beginning. If we want something more like WoW we’d go play WoW.

It is my hope that the class roles remain flexible and do not pigeon-hole one of them into playing a singular role. Such as healer, tank, or DPS.

If so, it would be back peddling on a core promise and vision established at its foundation.

General Thoughts About Quality

Kamara.4187

Much of what you said here is sound, and reasonable. However I can tell you straight up the teams I worked with when I was doing QA for an MMO were more effective when they worked directly with development, and our goal was never perfection, it was centered on “is it working as intended?” And “can we break or exploit it?”

I did like what you had to say about cataloging bugs to predict/avoid future flaws. A system like that could be valuable. Especially when a change in staff has occurred.

Other than that many on the GW2 team have already worked on major MMO’s from what I’ve read, and I’m sure they have already witnessed such a system in place, or at least one would think they have.

Siege Troll Discussion

in WvW

Posted by: Kamara.4187

Kamara.4187

Keep it simple. The only reason someone is trolling is because they think they can get away with it.
Make an identity marker on all siege dropped linking it to an account.
Require a screen shot with reports to eliminate false reporting and make the penalty for both (trolling, or false reporting) harsh.

The identity marker can also be done in a code that only staff can link to the registry data of an account to protect the players privacy.

To eliminate excessive world spam from this change add a toggle on off option in order to see or screen shot the identifier code when in WvW.

The only issue beyond this would be throw-away accounts, second accounts, or free accounts that are being used to troll with. Like it or not there needs to be a discussion concerning what accounts can access the WvW portion of the game or a means to identify problem players and where they are accessing the game from.

This is difficult, I know. But beyond requiring registry to include a rigs imprint and all other rigs that access an account I don’t know how else it could be addressed.

If imprinting is an option I would start by requiring all accounts to be scanned for imprint that access an account.

Then implement a means for the registry to be updated when a pc is being retired for a new rig, or an additional one is being added that will access the account. If a pc has been altered or upgraded it can be re-registered with the changes made to the rig.

It may not answer all the issues but most of us don’t have throw-away rigs or laptops.

If imprinting is not an option then there still needs to be a serious discussion concerning accounts that can access the WvW portion of the game to eliminate trolling on throwaway accounts.

As for the exhaustion options being proposed I can tell you by my experiences it would have been detrimental. Often I fully supplied a keep with siege in the wee hours of the morning when there was less than optimal numbers of team members around, not to mention not everyone wants to spend their currency on siege or knows where to place it correctly .

How it will be with the upcoming changes? I have no idea because I’ve not witnessed them yet or seen what players will do to utilize the advantages and disadvantages . And we all know players can be a crafty bunch.

I’ve been playing MMO’s since 2005. In my opinion player trends have become more cautious after several games failed shortly after launch, unpopular game changes, and an uptick in micro management throughout the industry which turns many players off. This is not a GW2 issue your witnessing. Its just consumers becoming naturally weary after a long history of let downs.

They are waiting to see, as I wish I would have done. But I had just purchased the game before the new changes were implemented and loved it…So far I’m seeing it get further and further away from what I liked about GW2 in all honesty.

After playing Revenant; Ventari and Glit stances outshine the druid specialization by far.

In my opinion Celestial Avatar should be turned into a stance with no resource, and have all druid healing functionality attributed to it. Rework staff into a proper range damage/cc weapon.
Right now Druid it all about heals, yet has low output in both healing and damage.

Also… make glyphs ground targetable. Boon application in CA form would increase their value, and increase damage output in standard form would be welcome.

I second this.

I hate to be negative but I’m pretty disappointed having seen what has been done with the other classes. As if Ranger didn’t have enough issues, now they have been pigeon-holed into a sub-par healer class. celestial form is like a bleep on the radar, there and gone before you know it while the Revant can flip over to DPS or healing with a simple toggle to maintain either build.

The models for the Wyvern looks like a barney the dinosaur knockoff that hobbles along the ground like it didn’t grow all its limbs correctly. both are cartoon-ish compared to the quality and realism of the other pets. In addition the tracking is off when executing the f2 attack on a NPC standing stationary…it scorched the zone between the avatar-master and target. by a considerable measure I might add. The model is also sinking into the world partially as it hobbles along with its nose to the ground like a blood hound trying to catch the scent of a chicken on the loose.

Granted I’ve not spent a great deal of time testing everything, but by the same token it looks like little has been done to address major issues with the Ranger class either

Patch Today: Key Farming Impacted

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kamara.4187

Kamara.4187

Seems like an awesome change to me. Key farming was never intended, keys are supposed to be a major contribution to their gem store sales, but were being significantly undermined by key farming.

Hopefully with the restrictions in place they can increase the drop rates in the chests now so people will buy keys again.

The only thing that could significantly increase key purchase rates is to make them actually worth buying, and they aren’t. Odds are a BLC is just going to yield worthless crap, and in a game that is already stingy with worthwhile loot, getting drops that are behind a paywall is just a slap in the face.

The only effect this change will have is to further aggravate an already disgruntled playerbase.

I’m not the only one who has noticed they’ve become more and more tightfisted right? Everything is pushing us to the gemstore more and more.

This! And I’m watching it closely.

POLL: a ranger introspective

in Ranger

Posted by: Kamara.4187

Kamara.4187

One thing that bothers me about the class is much of its defense is geared around being fleet of foot but even if you are just targeted and not hit by an enemy your running pace will slow and often the pet is more like an anchor slowing you down when it aggro’s onto something.

Spirits? Just dump the entire line and and build something around the pet. Pets that offer different attacks and boons. maybe a mascot boost for parties?

The beastline tree can then be more about the animals toughness and health pool instead of being packed out with all the melee skills that should be in the skirmishing line instead like the name “skirmishing” implies…melee

Some rangers want to stay range fighters, and the short bow needs to deliver to fulfill that role. I wish they had got the rifle but what’s done is done.

Traps were more useful when we could throw them.

I’m not looking for an I win button, but the way everything is scrambled around the penalties are far greater for the ranger to select a template that offers a fair balance between offence and defense, than it is for my warrior or guardian, and that is even with a missing speed boost on the guard (except for the staff boost which is meh).

Its just laid out very badly by comparison in my humble opinion.

In WvW rangers should be able to use barrage from the walls like portable arrow carts. God knows I’ve seen rangers get taken out faster than an arrowcart and this is reasonable with barrage locking you into place as the special fires in order to deliver the shot.

The only other thing that I wish is that the poll was separated between competitive players and pve. Because in pve I can sacrifice skills that I can not survive without in pvp or wvw. Otherwise this was a very nice poll and I thank you for your time.

I have a different take. The game throws so much stuff at one that 99.9% of drops are perceived as not rewarding. Exotics? Selling for under 10G, which if reports can be believed is gettable by an hour or so in SW.

Asc. is Account bound, so there’s no way to get it but drops, laurels, FotM rewards and crafting. Some of that is RNG and the rest is incremental. Other than perhaps FotM, the drop rates on Asc. weapons/armor is abysmal. This means that crafting is the most reliable means of attainment, with the side benefit that the mats to make them are selling for decent amounts on the TP.

And I’m much more likely to accumulate gold to exchange for gems than vice versa.

Its a very big beautiful game world, with only the silver waste being the place to make an in-game profit…boring boring boring day in and day out same ol same ol……

While other classes manage to get a decent template out of the traits and utilities the Ranger is severely penalized by comparison. Its like someone with ADHD worked on it and skipped around its concept at creation with no real defined ability to play a solid role in any one aspect of the game.

Other than that I wondered if there wasn’t a thief fanboy among development after I sifted through the forum and realized the nerf bat was swung at the ranger every single time the thief community howled about ranger threatening their 1v1 supremacy….

AC Exploit

Kamara.4187

That’s wonderful news, and its always nice to see a red name in the wvw forum.

However that is only part of the problem. Players can still hit siege without having a true LOS with ground targeting specials, or attack the “underside” of a bridge/walkway that siege is sitting on and still be able to destroy it.

If those issues are not addressed as well then defending just became much more difficult.

On the same note I would much prefer seeing engineers having an expanded role in being able to take out siege and gates. I do not have a engineer avatar, but it just makes sense that the class would be specialized for such a thing in wvw. And rangers should be able to use barrage when defending from the top of a wall. In fact they are easier to kill than an arrow cart LOL.

Hi remember this?

Well its happening and defenders are getting crunched because player ground targeting specials can still hit the top of walls. Now they are sitting ducks.

The LOS needed to be addressed for both AC and player ground targeting specials where keep walls were concerned :S.

The issue is with people, not the game.

People who want to take the scenic route will just have inherently different ways of playing as opposed to speedrunners. This goes far beyond stats and builds, which is why changing or nerfing whatnot is never going to help. Shifting what’s optimal actually hurts casual players more, because guess who can afford to regear more? Hardcore players that see mechanics changes will just adapt their theorycrafting around it.

What about stuff like mob skips and pulling and whatnot? Maybe the casual player doesn’t mind a wipe or two, etc while a serious group may not tolerate.

That’s the issue that seems to always get glossed over in this debate.

But yea, ultimately it’s a human issue. People should not join runs where they don’t meet their requirements, and people should not be rude when they don’t specifically list these requirements and expect all pugs to be magically experts.

This!

Its one of your best post.

Kamara.4187

how are you going to design challenging content (that they’ve promised) that fits both of the following criteria: 1) Doable by the casual group and 2) doesn’t die instantly to the optimized group.

You don’t make content that fits both of those. It is contradictory. It is either challenging or it is easy. That is Anets biggest fault. They keep trying to make content that appeases both parties but it simply isn’t possible. The only true solution is to make two versions of each content one easy mode and one hard mode. But then the problem comes that people will just do the easy mode for the rewards anyway because the other fault Anet has is that they won’t make the more difficult content any more rewarding than the faceroll content so the point of trying goes out the window.

And this is where your wrong. They are in the business of selling games to as many people as they can appeal to because it takes years to develop a game before it will even see a profit.

It always amazes me how many people can’t get beyond the island of “their own game play” ….

What does anything you said have to do with what I said? I said you can’t make content that pleases both players because it will either be too hard for one group or too easy for the other group. They have to pick one and they refuse to do it so we always end up with kitten content that isn’t properly optimized for either group.

I was pointing out the big picture to you, which is GW2 development didn’t sit down and decide to build a game to wrap around your preferred game play, or for a few niche groups.

Its not all about you, or how you feel, or what you think. Its a global game that was created to appeal to as many people as possible so it would make lots of money and make their investors happy~

If you feel that it is making your gaming experience less challenging then simply form a group that don’t use them.

Not all players are top shelf, some are new, or very young or old, some are handicapped. smaller guilds often have trouble building a team and shy away from pugs, but guess what? They all bought the game just like you, and if it helps them to experience the content that they have purchased then they are entitled to it regardless if those that really don’t need things like the ice bow decide to use it anyhow.

Ranger Bugs (Updated)

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Kamara.4187

Sic’um: Your pet rushes at your foe, revealing them and doing increased damage.

Not working as intended, or worded incorrectly.

I tested this with a mesmer friend in a private pvp arena and not once was the enemy revealed or brought out of cloak.

Pet was a raven.

This is the one special that a ranger has to fend off a attack by a thief or mesmer and possibly survive. Without it rangers are sitting ducks against stealth based builds. Also if the enemy has to be targeted for the special to work then it really isn’t a reveal mechanic since target is lost once the enemy enters stealth.

On the topic of ranger I would also like to add that players don’t gamble with their utilities when selecting them. They better work when called upon. Which is why so many rangers don’t gamble by putting spirits on their utility bar with a 75% that they may work… or not.

Otherwise they might be worth using.

No longer being able to throw most of the traps has also impaired the ranger making them even more vulnerable.

A great deal of the defense for ranger was built around being able to move fast, yet the pet acts like an anchor slowing the ranger down if it is in combat, or even if an enemy has just targeted the ranger and not fired an attack the ranger is slowed.

Please make up your minds. They can either rely on speed or not.

Thank you for your time.

I’ve been taken all the way down to two remaining points of health in several fights. Were those infusions worth it? You better believe that they were.

Power creep in movement speed

oh my, so now there’s folks complaining about “speed buff everywhere”. Everything are complainable these days.

I dont see any “power creep”. It’s an imaginary paranoia at best. For the increased speed, the person at issue has to sacrifice a trait or skill slot for it, limited him from something he could have had in exchange for abit more mobility in combat. It’s a tradeoff. Speed outside of combat is nothing more than convenience, nothing else worth losing hair about.

This! 100% spot on.
