Its kinda funny in my case.

I’m new to GW2 but I’ve been playing Guild Wars since prophecies and have purchased all of the expansions including pre ordering HoT.

So where would that put me on the Veteran scale?

You know I am a new player and I’ve not experienced the things you mentioned on a day to day basis. I will admit there were times when the lag was heavy during mass battles, but all in all it was no different from other game experiences I’ve had during similar circumstances.

My advise is to get help from tech support. GW2 support staff went above and beyond to help me solve an issue. In fact I’d give them a top shelf rating on par with some of the best support staff that I’ve experienced in my very long MMO history.

No, other MMO’s don’t wipe names unless there was already a clause for it in their initial game policy (which means it was in place when the game launched).

What your requesting is pure MMO poison and an epic drama fest that would lead to forum flame riots for years to come.

Suck it up and figure out a name that is not in use.

Weapon color kits.

There have been several nice weapons I liked in game but I didn’t use the skin because they just blew the color scheme and theme I had going.

Add +1 for the animation sets also. It is a excellent idea that has done very well in other games.

In-game random dice generators- I hate tabbing out to do a dice roll. Give me a dice set that can be used with GW2 chat system. I’d buy that.

Home instance customization kits- Since GW2 allows for an entire zone (as a home instance) this could be expanded upon by allowing a specific structure within the zone to be selected and opened up for a player to use by adding a opening and closing door to the structure (for the ones that are closed off at this time).

A VIP home package could also be created and cost more for allowing one of the more prestigious structures to be selected within the zone for customization.

New home instance option packages=

Would incorporate the existing Home instance stone and allow the player to select a specific city/town/village/outpost to be their “New home instance zone”. Wanna be from Lions Arch, Ebonhawke, Beetltun, or perhaps have an Air or pirate ship as your home instance? Something like this could make it possible.

Offer a package to Norn that get them out of the lodge and into something more like Eir’s home instance.

Crafting stations, banking, and trading post access could also be packaged and sold for home instances. Keep in mind someone buying this is looking for convenience and would want them placed in an accommodating way instead of spread out all over the home instance.

Furnishing packages for the above mentioned home instance could add or alter the look of the objects within the structure that was purchased with a home customization kit.

Home instance hot tub or pool! I’d buy that!

Memorial- Sadly sometimes we lose friends in game and it would be nice to have a means to honor their memory with a dedication plaque that could be placed on a statue, garden or memorial flame object. A statue of their avatar would be even better.

Sitting script package- adds a script to a chair/sofa/bed object that would allow an avatar to do the sitting animation with that specific object.

A home instance guest furnishing package- Could offer accommodations/seating for other races within the instance since scaling would be an issue of concern for adjusting position and avoiding clipping. In this way the time spent for animating the seating for each race will be compensated and keep the object scaling to a reasonable size for each race.

Home instance lighting packages: could add or alter objects with a lighting FX= Style/Color/Illumination.

Customization kits for future guildhalls could offer some of the same features as the home instance package that I mentioned above, and be sold as a separate package.

A doorway or portal object could also be sold in a guildhall customization package to allow guild members to access their personal instances from within the guildhall. In the event that they are no longer with the guild their access would simply be removed by no longer being on the guild roster.

Tavern package that offers a nice tavern in home instance along with a barkeep and wait staff.

NPC packages for home instances or guildhalls=
Entertainers-dancers/muscians.
Military guards- (different types, different packages) that can be placed and salute when you approach them,
Cultist package- offering NPC that are suited for a darker theme within the home instance.

Home and Guild customization packages could also be bundled by theme.
Examples= Military, Noble, Arcane, Pirate, Raven, Bear, Wolf, Seraph,Vigil, Whispers, ect, ect

I want a Dolyak with saddlebags.

I can’t come up with anything for how that could possibly assist the player offensively in combat…unless it waddles over to and rolls onto an enemy, but then we would need to help it get back on its feet again. Perhaps it is a purely defensive pet and we can stand behind it while it takes shots for us?

If I’m not mistaken they have a charge and knockdown in parts of the game? I know a few have plowed me over in WvW camps LOL.

I’m not sure why I like them so much. Perhaps its because they remind me of buffalo and I’m Native American, but I’d love to have one as a pet for my norn ranger.

Celestial gear, the timegate

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kamara.4187

If everybody could charge as much quartz as they wanted and the charged crystals or celestial gear was tradeable, we would run out of quartz quite quickly because speculators would buy up all quartz and charge it in order to save 96% of the storage space.

There are admin tools to address in-game rates on just about everything.

On the subject of gating: It is the most hair ripping aspect of GW2. Hurry up and wait.

Never mind that it already takes time to acquire the gold or materials unless you are dropping real cash, and cash shoppers are not shelling out to wait for something.

Take ascended gear for instances. Every step of getting a recipe to make something is overly gated by forcing the crafter to purchase those recipes with karma and laurels which have to be acquired over time, not to mention gathering the materials for the actual crafting. But in addition to that the crafter is then being forced to purchase not one but two 2 recipes for a specific single “type” of weapon or armor every-time.

In a nutshell I should only have to purchase the greatsword recipe once, and the purchase of inscriptions should cover the specific types I can make.

I’d pay to have an extra weapon set swap along with savable builds. It would cut down on time wasted asking friends to hold on while I swap things around in a dungeon. GW1 got this right.

ride-able Dolyak? I’ll vote for that one also.

Group expansion for home instances- 5 people only? Please! I’m social and in several guilds… +10 ppl in home instances should be a minimum.

Utility belt for different salvage kits- I use several kits at any given time and carry all of them in my inventory.
If there was a way to keep them organized and out of my inventory (like how the harvesting tools work) I’d buy it. But I’d want one that would let me load up to 250 kits of each type and provide a selection option when mousing over items. I’d also like it to have a toggle on/off feature for when I’m not clearing my inventory.

Hats? Love them but I’ll never buy one until your modelers figure out how to use a partial transparency instead of making avatars completely bald when they parent the hat to the head and hair object. The tricone hat with the mask? I’m crazy about it and I want to use it so bad on my thief, but I’ll never use it because it would make her bald. Same goes for the tophat.

Costumes? Useful but limiting at the same time. Individual skins for head, chest, legs, ect are more appealing and offer more versatility for players.
Female light armor could really use some skins like that to escape the garter belts and fishnets. Not everyone likes their avatar looking like they need to find a street corner to stand on and set up shop…..

Holster/belts/sword sheaths, for when weapons are not armed.

Focus skins- Focus weapons woefully need help.
Most are too bulky or just have a very unappealing design. The scroll focus makes sense and if it didn’t look like my avatar was waving a roll of bathroom tissue at the enemy with the edge flapping in the breeze I’d use it. Sometimes simple is better.

The fan is very nice for the ladies but I’m sure some of the guys don’t quite see it as a manly accessory. The book with a handle looks like a purse. The chain focus is neat but it doesn’t move correctly. I’m not sure if it was made with bones or not, but I would have just weighted the object as a stiff heavy fabric so it followed the movements of the avatar better…
The hero focus is nice but its not really available for your pve types, and it is also a little on the bulky side. Some better options with the above in mind would be nice.

Guardian and the bow

Kamara.4187

Eh. Everyone has an opinion and they are certainly entitled to it. Like I stated above I’m just tossing my 2 cents in, but to answer a few of the post here-

No new weapon types- Which translates to passing off old animations and mechanics as new content for an upcoming expansion. A funny thing I’d like to point out is a mace and scepter are essentially the same thing (club) except the scepter is generally used as a ceremonial prop for monarchs. Yes this is a game and not RL, but its just one of those things that struck me as odd.

Deeper into defense- I mainly listed some of the more defensive aspects of polearms, but make no mistake it was a very lethal weapon that could breach shield walls and stop a cavalry charge.

Wannabe ranger- Except it will have serious heals and full plate defense.

Pure long range option- As I said the scepter could have fulfilled that role with a minor tweak to range and speed.

Again this would have been my “personal preference”, and I get that others may not agree and I’m ok with that. So thank you all for the replies

Kamara.4187

I’m not sure why the bow was selected as the new weapon for guardian and its probably too late to rethink it at this point but I’m going to toss my 2 cents into the ring anyhow.

I would have loved to see polearms introduced instead. Pikes or polearms are a frontline weapon for heavy plate fighters.

It would have afforded the guardian a little greater reach which would have been a gentle tweak to their under-par speed against other classes.

An option to vault with the polearm would have been a very cool distance closer.

Historically sashes were often tied to the attacking end of polearms for misdirection, distraction, and blocking the enemies view.

Polearms when gripped in a horizontal position could also be used to halt the advance of several enemy, or could be used as a push back in this manner.

And then there is the option of a great sweep, or lunge that is difficult to block but easier to dodge.

All of those could be very useful specials for a class that has clearly been established as a protector.

If giving the guardian a better range attack is the real objective then a few simple tweaks to the scepter’s could achieve that, and probably with less effort.

shrugs I’m trying to keep an open mind but I think this option is more inline with what the Guardian is suppose to be about. /tipshat

QA is one of the most thankless jobs imaginable and bug hunters burnout compounds quickly on its own and is even worse when attacked by the community when something “does slip by”.

^^^ THIS X 1000 ^^^

There’s no such ting as a perfect product upon release. The absolute best way to test something is to put it to it’s intended use which isn’t possible on any type of “test” server given the dynamics involved as well as the ingenious ways players will find to break something.

Even the most obvious mistake can slip by on a tester who is tired and has been working all night in a hurry to get the content out to the players and by coming here and throwing a tantrum about it you just guarantee it will be longer til we see the next update.

Get over it.

Been there done that hun. You can explain it over and over but no one will really get it unless they wore that hat.

That also goes for Developers who look at you like you broke their code when you present them with a bug…

I can laugh about it now but at the time it was hair-ripping aggravation (For clarity this happened on a different MMO).

Even if they had a solid player test community and a dedicated server for it, bugs would still slip by. A single push can break a multitude of things.

With that in mind, QA is one of the most thankless jobs imaginable and bug hunters burnout compounds quickly on its own and is even worse when attacked by the community when something “does slip by”.

I’m a firm believer that some of the best bug hunters can be found in a player community, and with a little direction and guidance from Development they can make a very positive, and cost effective contribution to any game. Its just finding those players that are true blue “bug hunters” and keeping them engaged is the challenge.

There have been times I wanted to step in but I’m still recovering from epic burnout after doing it since 2007.

I strive to be an honest and fair person.

When the remodeled LA was first released and we all took to the forum to post our opinions, mine was somewhat negative.

I’m a bit of a stickler for lore, and I will confess that most of my opinion was formed around the opening load in area which I found to be somewhat elf-ish/plant people-ish in design.

I’m still not overly fond of those features, however upon closer examination of the city I have to confess that there is a staggering amount of detail that is elegant and worthy of praise.

Whoever did the textures, bump/spec maps. Wow! just wow! You have an amazing eye. Your choices brought a harmony to the table without having to over state any one feature. How in the heck did you pull that off? My hats off to you.

The modeling of the more Krytan structures are a step up from the older version with just mind blowing detail. The envelope was pushed to put that much detail in a low poly game environment.

I could go on and on about the little things like the palms swaying to simulate a coastal breeze and the shadows that follow, or the many different grasses and plants, but my point here is to offer a humble apology to the creative team.

I should have looked closer before I spoke. /respect

What it is is direction for damage control. As long as players are coming here and venting instead of where it could shake up skittish investors or make new players think twice about buying its serving its purpose.

Toss in a couple of red names posting here and there keeps the illusion that they might be listening.

If you want someones attention you kick them in the wallet…that’s how business rolls….Post at gaming reviews, investors forums, ect….

For example “Guard” ranger skill, should reveal 5 targets that are in stealth and prevent them to re-stealth for 10 seconds in range of 1200.

There is no counter to stealth, and even if people use full stealth builds they still have full burst potential, this should be countered on some way and punished! And now is the time to get new skills where expansion is on the doors to create some balance in the game.

Actually the Ranger skill “Sic’um” is suppose to reveal but me and a friend tested it out with his mesmer and it did nothing. I wrote up a bug report on it shrugs

Then if I had infusions I need to buy something special out of the gem store to remove them or lose them for good after changing over.

I hate the spoon fed gated-ness of this game. Its crippling and frustrating.

Yes some have had piles of tomes and skill points but from what I’m seeing the new player coming in is being penalized at every turn with these changes.

We shouldn’t have to pay out more and buy things from your gem store just because anet decided to change play midgame.

I want my 20 spirit shards back and the 2 WvW infusions I lost, and I want shards to not be dangled like a carrot on a stick….its not entertaining…..

I am tired of paying good money to be the bad guy in place of lazy editors who can’t allow a kittening budget to hire a maintenance team (notice how I said editors and not developers?). NONE of that would have happened if they had someone paid (for real) to keep an eye on:

-The WvW
-The WvW forums

NO they just gave that to volunteers or the current intern who is logically completely overwhelmed by the amount of stuff (and tbh I can’t blame him/them) he has to check.
Then the guy(s) MAYBE makes a report of the situation that is promptly ignored by the rest of the developpment team because they’re too kittening busy “creating” a Harley Quin ripoff and basing an entire year of pve content around it!

Did you know we had community managers? Did you know that a community manager’s job is to interact with the community? Did you actually see any evidence of that?
One for NCSoft tht has 115 followers
One for Arena NEt (at least the wiki presents her as such) with 5500 followers
And probably another few that are so irrelevant, finding their names is nothing short of a miracle on the forums.

Now for the second part: Do you see any trace of them here on the WvW forum? Do you see any tweet, message, announcement that says they actually READ this, or even JUST acknowledge that we have a problem?! No. Just tweets about jumping puzzles and how the new Lion’s Arch is awesome because they had a gay wedding on blackgate (as if the female armors weren’t degrading enough. But that is an entirely different subject).

NO I will not be held responsible, nor my server, for what is basically a massive organised assassination. And I will invite everyone that tries to tell me I’m part of the problem to go kitten themselves.

Best regards.

I’m not a volunteer, I don’t work for any of the above mentioned or even know any of them. I do know a bunch from your server packed up and moved off. Some were helped to do so. So who’s fault is that?

Well, here is the thing. Camera changes allow peering over a wall and that is all that is needed to fire an AC. Although it sounds like it’s not relevant, there are spots even before the camera changes that siege could shoot things on the ground at some towers, like the opening over a gate.

With the camera changes, how do you know for sure they aren’t doing it within the game without a 3rd party application?

That’s always possible, however there are things that could be done like wall and ledge collision having a more dynamic effect on camera angles or perhaps maybe just a few roofs? Developers love little puzzles like this. I’m sure they have a rabbit up their sleeve that could fix it..

Kamara.4187

Not a bad idea, but sadly I’m sure someone will figure out a way to exploit it.

It maybe true that game mechanics could be exploited, but when posting suggestions I try to think how it could be exploited then adjust accordingly.

I feel you would need to place your server at a disadvantage in order to activate this mechanic (fall behind by a considerable score), only to catch up to have the 2v1 dissolve.

This mechanic I suggested is to keep the scores and gameplay more balanced. We may actually create a match up with more competition without radically changing programming code.

Its the same as my other post suggesting a rank buff earned while playing Undermanned.

People need a reward to participate while at a disadvantage or no one will play on an Undermanned server…..thus we have a serious problem with dying wvw servers.

J your preaching to the choir with me. Most of us are well aware that something needs to be done for the long term survival of WvW. I’m just saying its not all on Anets shoulders. We as a community share much of the blame with wrecking good games, and Gw2 is not an exception.

Your idea was good IMO (at a glance). Its just that it is not the only issue with WvW and part of it the community has a hand in derailing WvW. From transfers, to hacking, grieving ect ect.

That’s all I meant. Sometimes “we” mess up a good thing also, and then look for development to figure out a way to fix it.

Let me remind you that as a new player in WvW I’m penalized and do not have guard stacks (I’m close on the fortitude). Aside from that there are many post about the thief one shot, so I’m not alone. Again none of my toons are glassy and are in a mix of soldiers and knights with trinkets that maybe zerker. /shrugs …I guess I’m a scrub.

Lack of guard stacks would account for you being within 1-shot range. Although ur mix of tanky gear might put you back up above it. Just realize the thief is even lower base stats that you. Much lower. ranger is 16k+ base hp, war is almost 20k. thats with full offensive setups. The guardian ironically is the squishiest of ur 3 classes in terms of base defensive stats, being about the same as thief at just under 12k, and is the most prone to one shots. Guards get a lot of tools to mitigate or ignore damage though, so they gain much more of slotting an hp items or two in terms of effective hp. The thief suffers from slotting too much defense because of how hard it impacts damage and how little mitigation the thief gets.

I’ll probably understand better if I ever get motivated to finish leveling out my thief. Playing a class always gives you a better picture

They all have the base hp to survive a standard steal cnd backstab opener (biggers thief burst). there is zero reason for you to be getting one-shot by a thief when they can all become invulnerable. Unless u were half hp? but then ud get 1 shot by any power class blowing their burst on you. Yes, i used to kill 3-4 people at a time on occasion too. If they were bad. The moment someone ur fighting actually knows how a thief works, even prepatch, those odds wouldnt work. cloak and dagger is stupidly predictable, and the moment u avoid it the thief is kittened. same for smoke field/heartseeker, its very easy to interrupt doing so leaves the thief low on ini and royally boned. there is no reason anyone competent should ever lose in a 2v1 vs a thief. u dont even need to be good, just competent.

Theves are still killing in WvW. Mostly its solo/duo roaming and ganking scrubs. In a group setting the thief just doesnt pull their weight. they need to get carried a bit to keep the pressure off em, because they have no response to it themselves.

Seperate Skillbar for PvE and WvW

That the best solution IMO. PvP and PvE both have elements that can be game breaking to one another when balancing comes into play.

I wanted to add that it was reassuring to see a developer post in WvW. Thank you for that. /salute

Suggestion for population balancing

The only games I’ve known that didn’t have light traffic were the ones that had global play 24/7. You can merge servers together but it may just give you more day time players and not really fix the light am hours.

Face it, somehow we need paired with people in another time zone to make one server. That is if WvW is to remain a 24 hour feature.

Less build diversity

Depends. Some classes it worked very well on like guardian, elementalist, and mesmer. I feel I can pick any line and there are useful traits through out to choose from.

But other’s like engi and thief (ranger I think) feel pigeon holed into specific builds, have decreased diversity (even if say thief got stronger). I think they just need more work.

Overall I like the system, they just need to add more variety or something into some of the lines.

I’m not sure about the others you mentions but Guardian has several specials not working correctly and one has been disabled by development because it was melting gates in WvW.

WvW (dis)balance.

Granted I’m a new to game player but my avatar’s are not wearing anything less than exotic.
Not one of my toons are what you would call glassy.

I have 3 level 80’s (Ieveled fast with crafting and WvW), a guardian, a ranger, and a warrior, and all but the guardian has died from a thiefs one-shot.
On more than one occasion I have watched a thief take out a group of three experienced players, one by one.

Burst+Speed+Stealth+ the ability to escape most immobilizing attacks put them on a pedestal well above all other classes.

Thieves are still killing in WvW. They just have to think twice about trying to attack a group now.

You are suggesting a whole new title system which would probably take much more effort than just changing the numbers.

Which might make up for the fact that they have neglected this community to a shameful degree.

After 3 years of quasi stagnation in WvW, I would be happy with smaller things already. Because lets face it, big stuff wont happen unless HoT magically raises the WvW players by x10

There is hope. If I can come into game and get crazy hooked on WvW when I was never a big PvPer anything is possible. Hang in there

The game does work, i have no problem, and the minor of changing trait till they fix something is fine. Sometimes things are missed, it happen, grow up. that how i see it. There is not one game out there that plays perfectly, and that why things get added or remove. Besides, once again, it just a game, if your stress by a game, maybe take a breath.

TJgalon how much more do you want me to grow up because I’m 50? And I’ll let you in on a little something. I’ve been running down bugs on test servers since 2007. From there I went into Quality Assurance. The only reason I’m not doing it anymore is its a thankless job, and I’m burned out.

Yes things happen, things slip by. Sometimes a push can break things, but no one could ever convince me that this last push was given the time it should have had during internal testing…Period.
