I don’t like that idea, pets are a defining element of our class. If you like bows and don’t like pets, perhaps a warrior is a more suitable class for you.
The thing is they weren’t much of a defining element in GW1. In GW1 my pet sucked so I got rid of it. My bow also sucked in most situations so I got rid of that too.
Dagger ranger using Jagged Strikes > Fox Fangs > Death Blossom ftw.
My point being, there are going to be a lot of GW1 vets around on this game who would be quite happy to dump the pets.
Who ever thought this was good idea needs to be moved to another department. It killed the game for me. When WoW has more ability customization, there is a problem.
Ehh WoW doesn’t. If you’re doing anything other than going to Elitist Jerks and then using the abilities they tell you to use, when they tell you to use them, you’re playing WoW wrong. And they have the theorycrafting numbers to prove it.
The owner can kick anyone else out of the siege weapons and take their place already though. Doesn’t that solve the problem?
Wow, those people sound like a bunch of rude jerks.
Even putting aside the poor behaviour on their part, telling you to go away because they’re RPing doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Surely if they’re playing in character it’s pretty peculiar to sit in a tavern sipping beer while vicious monsters rise out of the lake and drag villagers away?
These are the kind of people who give RPer’s a bad reputation. They can’t show basic manners and consideration to other players, but they’ll have a fit if someone dares to say “lol” in their presence. Respect goes both ways.
They do it so that they can call a mediocre third person shooter an RPG and sell a lot of copies to teenage boys.
Yes… teenage boys with visions of naked blue ladies! I’m surprised the Smurf movies weren’t more popular.
Looks like Bioware just took Twi’leks, changed the hair substitutes slightly and got rid of the skimpy outfits tbh.
The only reason Mass Effect does this is because if they don’t, their fans will whine about it because HxC Mass Effect fans are losers.
This isn’t a Japanese Eroge game.
They do it so that they can call a mediocre third person shooter an RPG and sell a lot of copies to teenage boys.
a mass effect-style story-mode love interest.
I wouldn’t mind seducing countess Anise, if-a you know what I mean?
No, no no. Leave that Bioware garbage where it belongs.
If they can track people who buy the gold I would like Dhuum to yell “do not buy from goldsellers” and ban them. The more you can try to put off the people who buy from the kitten gold sellers in the first place, the better.
Filtering links out would probably help, at least for a while. They do tend to get creative though. On WoW I’ve seen gold spam spelled out in dead low level orcs on the ground in Orgrimmar.
I often swap dyes & items with friends, I don’t want to put those things on the TP. Sometimes we lend each other money.
Also only officers can remove from our gbank, sooo we sort of need mail there too.
If you’re on the character select screen, it’s the button labelled “world selection”.
That reeeally doesn’t sound like a good idea :S
How can you even say that you’d be paying $15 a month for a complete game? You’re aware that during the last 8 months of cataclysm, blizzard released no new content while still charging the same fee? Frankly, the mechanics of the game haven’t changed, the only thing that’s different is you see larger numbers on your screen and the game is continually dumbed down.
In WotLK I raided Icecrown Citadel for a year. An entire year.
What did they eventually add as a last raid before Cata was released? Ruby Sanctum. A “raid” with one boss.
Plus you can convert gold to gems, so everything in the store is available in game. Blizzard don’t let you buy pets and server transfers with game gold, they charge you real money. On top of your sub.
with the size of the WvW maps and the mind numbingly boring runs around where theres no action except a chicken and a wolf hitting each other, and a tree i would greatly appreciate mounts in this setting.
however if a player hits you = a dismount.
p.s. and a simple wolf, horse, rock dog, or anything simple would do.
I really can’t understand people who complain about the size of WvW maps and the time taken to walk around over there.
What would you rather have? If there was no time involved on walking around, there would be no objectives taking at all… As soon as someone started to beat some keep’s door, the zerg would be there in no time to defend…
Really?
Yeah, the rest of the world is debatable but in WvW it just wouldn’t make sense. It would ruin it and only increase the amount of silly zerging.
Personally I would like to see sensible looking vanity mounts available (don’t want everyone in LA sitting on tiny Zhaitan’s). These would be to collect, maybe some prestige mounts to go with armour sets (a Vigil horse for example), but with no speed increase.
Yes, why would you pay 15$ a month and get a complete game when you can play Guild Wars 2 that only offers part of the game for free, the rest being accessible by active usage of the store? There are two such systems I can think of: the transmutation stone system (because we know how hard it is to get fine stones in-game and how much it depends on luck) and the minipet system. WoW has transmogrification which works pretty much the same way, but costs in-game gold, while also having lots of pets obtainable in-game. So, yes, I’d rather pay 15$ and get a complete game, rather than not pay at all and get only a part of it.
You can buy minipets in the trading post with no gems involved from your side. They aren’t soulbound so people sell duplicates / rare & valuable ones.
WoW has a lot of in game minipets yes, but as someone who has most of them I did notice the quality of the new in game pets went down a lot once they started putting more into the Blizzard store. The mediocre ones are free, the good ones with the higher res textures and unique models are now £9 each.
While running around out in the world of Tyria and you see a Charr dressed in pink, you can say “Hey, that guy cares about breasts too.” And really, who doesn’t?
I care about people suffering from life threatening illness. People, not breasts.
As someone whose cousin is currently in the final stages of terminal cancer I don’t really see the use of people colouring their armour pink, and I doubt my cousin would find it helpful either.
It would have been better to petition Anet to add a special item to the gemstore and donate the money to a reputable cancer organisation, but it’s probably too short notice for them to do anything in time for October.
This exists already, story mode is normal mode and explorable is hard mode.
It seems to me that part of the problem is that there’s nothing much worth buying in the official store, so there aren’t enough people bartering their hoarded Gold for Gems. Where are the extra bank slots, for example?
If you open your bank there’s a little icon on the bottom right. Click on this and you get the option to buy more bank space.
It could be made a little more visible than it currently is, but it is there.
If someone dupes items, fine. If you get twice the amount of rewards (double chests), sure.
There is nor reason to punish players because they lack the ability to produce working and not exploitable dungeons. This must be the most idiotic thing i have ever heard.
If the boss bugs out, glitches, you find a short-cut or use the environment to your advantage, you should not be punished.
Biting the Hand that feeds you is NEVER a good idea.
The exploiters bit Anet’s hand.
It’s standard practice to ban exploiters. Blizzard have banned entire guilds before for exploiting new raids.
I like Orr overall, the atmosphere is great and just what I’d expect based on the lore. I would still like to see more 80 areas, just for variety. I assume these will come in the content patches. (I’m guessing that’s why the Ring of Fire is on the map?)
The only real complaints I have about Orr are:
1. The events need to scale up more because some of them are being flattened way too quickly because of the sheer number of people there.
2. Not sure what you could do about this exactly, but everyone is going to Cursed Shore and the other two Orr zones seem little under-populated at times, even though there are temples in the other zones as well.
If there was a way to find out which players jumped over the gates at CoF I think they should meet Dhuum. There’s no way you accidentally jump gates, get double chests etc without realising it’s an exploit.
Do you get my point though? Farming karma isn’t a solution to the issue at hand which is farming in the first place.
I didn’t really consider it to be farming. I just did whichever events I felt like doing at the time and enjoyed some good battles in WvW.
I’ve done plenty of grinding and farming on GW1 and WoW, the karma here just seems to appear while you’re playing the game.
Fair enough if there isn’t a set with the right stats, but other than that it’s not hard to get. I already have an armour set from doing Orr events, map completion and WvW.
I find it difficult to believe that you have a full set of the 42k a piece armor, not to mention the easy karma from WvW doesn’t exist anymore since they remove rewards from dolyak escorts.
You get karma for defending as well as capping keeps and strategic points. It really adds up if your server is doing well.
And for those of us who don’t live in Australia to abuse the population imbalances… sol.
I live in the UK and Gunnar’s Hold (EU) doesn’t really have a lot of Australians.
Fair enough if there isn’t a set with the right stats, but other than that it’s not hard to get. I already have an armour set from doing Orr events, map completion and WvW.

Yes I would like to see these added.
Shiro might not be able to make a comeback at the moment, but it would be cool if they added Fendi Nin to Arah as a surprise boss.
Oh wow, the usual suspects both replied within ten mins. Totally didn’t expect that.
If you mean Inci & DKP, they aren’t drowning people out. They’re giving advice and guides.
I’m not really understanding the difficulty complaints either. I came out of AC explorable on the weekend and a few people were outside calling it a hell hole and saying they couldn’t finish it because they ran out of money. We’d just done explorable in around an hour and made a profit, while joking around on TS.
I must say Inci, it’s really nice of you to offer to help people with dungeons like this. Don’t see that kind of thing much on mmo forums.
What are the tactics for which dungeon? If you’re asking a question you need to be specific.
Quoting isn’t working but Melfice, you say you can’t get gear because you can’t afford crafted exotics etc… why not buy karma gear?
Explorables are not designed for pugs.
And casual means you play for a few hours a day, and maybe not every day. Casual does not mean low skill. Plenty of players with limited time have no trouble running dungeons with their guild/friends.
Explorable modes are not designed for pugs. Colin Johanson said they’re for – and I quote – “groups of highly skilled/organized players”.
If you want to do explorables the best advice is to join a guild.
Yes I am. I also found the WoW heroics incredibly boring and easy in the dungeon finder era, I only did them to get epic gems to put in the AH. TBC was a better.
I hope Anet add a lot more dungeons, and not easy ones either. If I make a mistake the game should kill me for it, otherwise it’s boring.
I agree with the OP. To those who seem to think everyone just wants “ezmode” or to “get everything handed to you” in a few days, not exactly. Keep it in prospective. This is a kitten game, not a job. Although it might be to you because you have ezlife and nothing going on. Cheers!
I have the matter firmly in perspective thank you. Even if you only do one dungeon a week you will get the armour eventually. And seeing as it is a “kitten game and not a job” acquiring the decorative skin is a hardly an urgent matter. Therefore what is the problem with taking your time to collect the tokens?
No-one is forcing you to get the armour at all, let alone forcing you to grind all the tokens in 2 days.
You just called Anet liars and claimed that the dungeons are a grind, but most of the reasons you gave are actually just you finding the dungeons difficult.
Difficult and grind are not the same thing.
If you want to find groups, join a guild.
If you don’t want to repeat dungeons for tokens then don’t.
People are misrepresenting what Anet said and using it to demand free stuff. They said there would be no obligatory grinding to enter content. This is true. You can easily get a set of exotics through crafting, the trading post or karma. These mean that you are fully able to participate in any content and you are equal (gear wise) to people in dungeon armour.
They never said that the prestige skins would be handed out after 1 dungeon run.
Gunnar’s Hold here as well. I think the community is good on our server, I’ve often chatted to people in map chat, random people usually say thanks for resses, mostly if people ask a question in map chat they get a genuine answer. Even in WvW the map chat is a million times more civil than chat in WoW battlegrounds.
No idea about other servers, but I’m happy with Gunnar’s Hold!
Um Aba, if you think that it’s not ok to answer someone from your guild asking for help with “No thank you, I do not need those tokens” then just say “sure” instead. Why do you need to be bribed into helping your friends?
Dandyslayer, balancing dungeons to offer a great and exciting challenge to premades and pugs alike just doesn’t work. If it’s puggable then it’s boring for a guild group because it’s too easy.
The solution to that is what they have now, story is for pugs and explorable is for organised groups. If you want tokens then you need to join a guild or do dungeons with friends.
A 24 hr lockout per dungeon path is the only way that a unified system would work otherwise people will find the easiest route and farm it. It’s not possible to make every dungeon of identical difficulty without making the dungeons identical.
The dungeons aren’t that difficult, you just have to adapt and practice. Use your skills, use combo fields, kite, dodge, make sure you aren’t bringing glass cannon gear & builds. Joining a guild is also important. If you see environmental objects like boulders, use them. Weapon swap and change skills if the fight requires it.
Everyone is the tank, healer and dps. Even with a support build you do need to do some damage as well. Make sure someone is using ctrl+t to call targets.
I’ve done AC explorable in around 1 hour and came out of it with a profit every time. I did SE explorable for the first time last night (without VoIP even) and died once.
I don’t think stat increases are more rewarding than rare skins. The best stats should be easy to obtain, but the prestige skins very definately shouldn’t. I would like to see them add a lot more titles (and make titles more visible) and skins and make them harder to get that what there is now.
You bring up WoW, but the titles and mounts in WoW are a lot more rewarding than gear and those are vanity items like GW2 armour skins. If you log on to WoW right now, what’s more rewarding – some old piece of T6 (remembering that no-one even knows whether you got it at the time or in a retro raid) or a Hand of A’dal title?
Gear gets DEed pretty quickly, sitting on an Amani Warbear displaying Hand of A’dal will last as long as WoW does. It’s also infinitely more impressive with the way Blizz hand out epics nowadays.
GW1 had a lot of stuff that was very time consuming to get (the God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals title for example). They just need to add something along those lines to GW2. No need for stat increases.
People spent a lot of time farming GW1 for ecto gloves, tormented weapons and obsidian armour as well as a lot of titles. The hardcore types look awesome and you can spot them a mile off, but the stats are the same as fairly easy to get (but still cool looking) 15k prestige armour.
They were really on to something with this mixture of stuff so I do hope we see more hard to get items added.
If everyone has equal stats you can also very clearly see who is good at the game and who isn’t, you don’t need superior stats to show you’re good at dungeons. The fact that you aren’t lying dead in a fire shows that.
Yes, nice and clear.
This happens on every mmo forum, if you believe all the posters then every class sucks and every class is OP. It’s a bit annoying but you just have to fish around and find the genuine information.
I’m enjoying dungeon runs on my ranger, even though the forum says that warriors are better at everything a ranger is supposed to do and that pets are worthless and dead 99% of the time. I find with a bit of micro my pet is actually hardly ever dead.
The worst thing about the armor is that it’s only RARE. If we’re going to shell out that crazy amount of gold, it should be Exotic at LEAST.
Well you can transmute it.
I think that all of these prestige skins (cultural, dungeon and even the karma sets) should be done like the Hall Of Monuments armour really. The HoM armour skin can be generated by an NPC as many times as you like so that you can change stats without losing your look. I think that the cost of the armour should unlock it for that character (and obviously you shouldn’t be able to vendor or salvage it).
If I buy the T3, sure I can transmute it onto my good set that I wear for dungeon runs. But what if I want to keep that look while I do events wearing magic find gear? I think the cost is fine as it is and I don’t want that lowered, but it’s a bit much to have to buy it twice for the same character.
One of the great things about GW1 was that you could have a whole bank full of awesome prestige armour and wear whatever you felt like, whenever you felt like it.
that price is insane given how slow gold income is unless you metagame and play the TP…which you cant expect “normal” players to do.
Have patience.
It’s a long term goal prestige skin and most people who buy are going to be buying it because it looks special and different. If everyone has it after a few weeks then it loses it’s entire purpose.
Not at all, no. I have what I consider to be an acceptable amount of gold, and that’s after spending about 30g on exotics. I don’t farm or grind, I just do what I feel like doing at the time. (Map completions, some Orr events, WvW, dungeons, some jumping puzzles etc – in no particular order.)
Firstly, story elements allowing you to choose random acts of violence that would tend to imply your character is a sociopath don’t make a game an adult mmo. An mmo with a story about heroes acting to save Tyria while dealing with political and diplomatic issues would be an adult mmo, simply because children wouldn’t be able to follow the complexities of the plot.
Guild Wars is all about heroes and always has been.
What you’re looking for is swtor with a sith character. If they were to try to add that here it wouldn’t just be the personal story, the hearts and events would make no sense either. They’d have to practically re-do the entire game. It would’nt make the slightest bit of sense to have me trying to put out fires in a village and you trying to light them again. They’d have to then enable world pvp or something.
Unless you’re stacking magic find like mad, you’re more than likely going to walk away with blues generally worth around 55-75 copper. You’ll maybe earn about 4 – 6 silver from vendoring blues, but that’s pretty much it.
I have….like 0 magic find and I gain 20-60s each run…? How is it that nobody else can manage this?
I manage it easily. You can get even more with some green drops and ecto’s from salvaging the hat at the end. That’s with 0 magic find and in explorable modes.
the buffed the ones that people were speed farming(to an extreme) but that should get people running other wings to find another place to speed farm then that will get buffed/tweaked
if people wanna speed run dungouns they should and farm for money, If ANet dont want people buying Gems with ingame money they should make gems cost 250Gold for 100Gems or Take out the ability to buy gems with ingame money. You cant take grinding or farming out of a game completely.
You can just do different paths and you still make a decent profit.
I think people are trying to play this like GW1 too much. You can’t farm dungeons in a few minutes with builds that are borderline exploits any more. I doubt that was how they originally intended the GW1 dungeons to be played either.
It’s not just the gems that would be affected by over inflation, the tier 3 karma armour would become trivial and so would the commander books.
In GW1 people really had too much money and it needed a lot more gold sinks. Using ecto’s as a currency because people can’t hold more gold is ridiculous really.
I also think it’s a bad idea to take out the ability to buy gems with in game money, a lot of people do use this function.
Please do not dumb the game down for the few who want to play while not actually paying attention.
Tell them that if they want to be “chilling” and “paying semi attention” then they shouldn’t be trying to do a jumping puzzle at the same time.
I agree with this.
If you don’t want to pay attention the go to lower level area. They’re very easy with 80 gear and traits and you still gain useful amounts of karma. It’s not like they give you 5 karma per event.
What really made it for me on my 3rd attempt was the fact i felt a better player! My awareness and understanding of the bosses and my team mates made me feel more in control and thus enjoy the experience more.
That, my friend, is progression
The real kind, not the gear kind.
