If YOU could change 7 things about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

KarateKid.5648

My number 1 change is for GW2 is for it to be more like this game:

http://youtu.be/4XvJNQ8_3GM

^These people know how to make an MMORPG, and THIS game is what GW2 wishes it could be when it grows up.

THIS – there are easily 7 things in this manifesto (which was the first and last thing I checked out prior to buying the game) that were started and just not completed. One example – “our game is not about grind” – dynamic events in some areas are dense enough to make this a reality.

But in others (generally-speaking: the farther from a city you go… of course there are a few exceptions), there are painfully few dynamic events going on. For this particular issue, more Dynamic Events, or even changing Dynamic Events (which they did this patch in Kessex) occasionally would go a long way to meet the expectations in the manifesto.

Another of the points was combat – at first, it is fantastic. Once you get the hang of it, though, one of my “fears” after hearing about combat, the abolition of the Trinity, and the limited number of skills available at once in the manifesto was realized – we became essentially the same characters with slightly different cosmetic differences. More skills and more from which to choose would help alleviate some of this “same-ness”.

Finish your thoughts, anet – they were good. Cut it out with the new shinies and finish your thoughts.

Yah, I’ve LOOKED for reasons to buy stuff on the Gem Store – either the prices are too high for what you gain or the skins look too bad to justify the cost – depending upon how you look at it (no pun intended).

Talking about utterly unrelated and otherwise unexplained hallucinations that show up in boss fights.

Absolutely no krait or anything related to the toxic LS, including no seedlings/spores then there are half a dozen hallucinations in the fight.

Makes almost as much sense as Scarlett being in WvWvW.

Was this something explained in the LS I didn’t participate in?

Missing from the TP: minimum increments

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: KarateKid.5648

KarateKid.5648

You guys are missing the point, which is that the ability to undercut by an insignificant amount simply leads to noise in the marketplace, and a system that, in effect, awards people for being later to offer at a particular price than earlier.

If I offer an item for sale at 7g 43s 99c and someone else offers it at 7g 43s 98c, we are essentially offering it at the same price, but the second seller will go before mine. If 20 other people later jump in at 7g 43s 97c, 7g 43s 96c, etc., my item could sit for days before it moves — even though it’s essentially the same price. The same happens with purchases.

This is why markets generally have mimimum increments.

I think you’re missing my point. The prices are all essentially the same, so if there is more demand than the supply being put on the market, all of those essentially the same price items will sell. If there is more supply than demand, only a portion of those essentially the same price items will sell and the price should be dropping. There might be something to the idea that the price should drop in slightly larger chunks, but I think it’s better to err on the side of more granularity than introduce an artificial price bias.

Absolute truth spoken ^ here.

Error attempting to sell AAAAAAAH!!!!

This is my #1 problem with the game right now.

I basically go out and explore and adventure my heart out and only stop when my bags are full – at which point I head to a trading post and sell everything.

I get “Error attempting to sell” after about the 5th item every, single, time.

Can you imagine how annoying this is when all of my bags are FULL of things to sell?

I would love to do a captcha just for 5mins of selling.

If anyone wants to try and argue that a captcha would break immersion – think about how immersion-breaking a giant error message is.

So do a themed captcha… that’s got potential.

if you guys think this is ok, fine – i don’t

and no, i am not jealous

Well then that’s the price they are willing to pay for it! Doesn’t matter the reason behind it, whether it be a ‘reasonable’ price or they are desperate. If someone buys it, that’s the equilibrium.

I know you probably want to buy precursors for 10 silver each but when there are thousands of players willing to pay more than you, there is absolutely zero reason why a seller should pick you. They will pick the highest bid.

At least he’s complaining about economics and learning about it here instead of going out and voting based on this knowledge.

Just did it in an almost empty overflow, just my party and me most of the time. Not a single problem.

Actually, considering what I just experienced, an almost empty server would be a boon…

I was in an overflow with lotsa folks in it. Since noone was in front of me at the time, I tried to run through like a madman… died at the minefields, naturally. Having learned that lesson, I tried playing tactically – step/dodge outside the non-red AOE marks, control my attacks, etc.

And then some fool brings in the mob version of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to welcome me to the tower.

I’d rather there be noone else in the outer tower levels to try to play through it, but that ain’t gonna happen, so I’m prolly not gonna try it any more…

it’s fun when YOU screw YOURSELF up and learn from it, building a set of tactics and patterns as you go.

It’s not fun when no matter WHAT you do, it will all be for naught when consideration-challenged droolbot runs past you.

I have to agree with this. The instances are soloable, and getting to them would be except for the lone Forrest Gump dragging two elites and a stack of trash on top of someone playing with tactics. Then the toxic chests in instance contained Wal-Mart fare.

I can see where creeping up the tower and into the instances (at least, if my assumption of how the play was intended is correct) would actually be a fun balance of stress, sorta-relief, and reward; but the design creates false obstacles (Run, Forrest! RUN!), sorta relief, and a complete letdown.

And then there’s Scarlett in the background – but there have been volumes written about what’s wrong with her.

The potential of this part of the LS was there, but was totally lost in execution.

they only influence it so far as to add attractive items for sale in the gem store.
buying gems with gold does benefit Anet, as then gems become more attractive to buy with $$, resulting in more gems bought with $$.

also, what’s up with the conversion rate? every time I buy gems with coin I have to check several prices around the amount I’m looking to spend. This is a theoretical example that illustrates what I have observed:
100g00s00c = 1428 gems
100g05s00c = 1428 gems
100g06s00c = 1426 gems
100g07s00c = 1428 gems
100g08s00c = 1429 gems
100g07s00c = 1428 gems
100g06s00c = 1426 gems
100g08s00c = 1429 gems
100g09s00c = 1428 gems
it’s happened often enough that I convinced myself it’s not just other people buying and selling gems. It’s like there are some magical amounts that give more than the amounts around it, and some amounts that give less. 200g always seems to give about 4 gems more than 199g99s00c…

Ever stop and think Zerker was intended (PvE)

KarateKid.5648

I personally think the zerker set up is bad because it makes build variety shallow. If you look at speed clear builds they usually focus on might and vulnerability stacking, unique class buffs (ranger’s Spotter for 170 precision, warrior’s Empower Allies for 170 power) and flat DPS increase traits (15% more damage when adrenaline is full, 10% more damage when flanking the target, 10% more damage when endurance is full, 10% damage from Frost Spirit, 15% more crit damage from warrior’s banner). The only thing that begins to matter is DPS.

Then you see videos like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGJylZBKmos

That’s a level 80 dungeon. That ranger is using a glass build. That is a boss encounter that has a unique mechanic that is intended to give unique gameplay (rather than just DPS you are supposed to shoot the lasers and usually that means having to jump back up mid fight because the shield recharges). The doesn’t use his evasion skills on the weapon (sword 2 and 3), he doesn’t dodge once, he doesn’t reposition his character and he doesn’t even go down. Guild Wars 2 is a game built around active combat. You aren’t supposed to stand in one place, yet that’s exactly what is happening thanks to the zerker meta. Conversely other builds are working much harder and utilising the full breadth of the game’s combat mechanics to complete content because they can’t auto attack in melee range to a win in less than 30 seconds. The most efficient builds for most content are so efficient, they make the content easier.

It’s two problems.

  1. …but there is no gear that hands out condition duration like you can get crit damage). The game is very lopsided in favour of berserker builds…

precisely this^.

Except that in 90% of other situations if you are unable to dodge and get out of harm’s way as a zerker you are dead.
That’s why the stereotypical zerker floor war appeared.

Yah, I was unclear in my meaning due to being on phone at the time.

I was agreeing on the first sentence – there’s no alternative gear for condi that is similar to the value in dishing damage that berserker’s does. Again, just reiterating my disdain for being almost funneled into one set of gear due to lack of optimal options in the other gear. I included the second sentence due to laziness only.

So you have to accept it , it’s berserker or gtfo .

And that’s why I hate zerker elitists :|

I don’t think zerker should be nerfed, I just don’t think it’s playstyle is for everyone.

I don’t complain Overpowered-ness vs. Underpowered-ness; my argument is it locks everyone in to one set of armor. I go thematic with my armor choices to preclude being bored to tears – but I know my gear is sub-optimal, so I stay out of high-risk PUG runs as a result.

Other options just need to be of value – and I’m not saying they need to be slanted toward the Trinity.

Not nerfing the bags, but nerfing their location. champion should spawn randomly and there should be a limit of people killing them. Why so?

1. Too much reward for something that can’t fail. It’s just impossible to fail this, it’s like standing in LA and getting free gold. You can go there gearless at level 1 and nothing will happen to you because there like 50 other people killing the same thing.

2. It’s bad for new players, exemple: he starts at queensdale, gets to level 80 and even at max level he still don’t know how to use his class. Same thing for wvw by the way : if people zerg all day long , they have no idea how to win 1v1 fights, I’ve seen some pathetic things on youtube, people are winning 7v1 in wvw because alot of them simply never learn how to PvP, they just blob up and spam 111.

3. What’s the point of those dynamic events and other zones like Orr ? If people can just stand in the same place and kill the same mobs over and over again? What’s the points of living story then?

4. The economy, people complain about precursors being 800g. If somebody stops playing for a week he is too far behind because people r making hunder of golds per day with this.

So yea, I think the champions should scale with the number of people. Exemple if it’s more than 10, then it could become harder by adding those ‘elite mobs’ . This would make open world harder if there 15 people , they will have to fight 10 elite mobs and 1 champion. Or they could simply spawn randomly on the map to avoid the whole zerg train farming them.

1. How does this harm YOU?

2. How does this harm YOU?

3. How does this harm YOU?

4. How does this harm YOU? I call BS on the hundreds – I presume you meant multiple hundreds – of gold per day. 100 is even questionable, but I can see how it’s possible – that’s only in the most extreme/addicted cases.

TL;DR: It doesn’t harm you, so you don’t have standing to complain. Thanks for your opinion, though.

I play an ele and rotate among all of her skills, depending upon where I am. I prefer all of them to this skill EXCEPT supporting a huge crowd against the specific poison condition as in Kessex/LS. Even then, though, trait heals + her normal healing skills can still get them through. Solo – I stick with her original heals. With Orr, it’s part of the chaos. There are other parts of the game where (as best I can figure) some of it is a function of lack of popularity… I’ve entered a few while leveling that don’t have anything really interesting (champ trains, event chains, or loot possibilities that were interesting) where a huge percentage of them were contested just because no players had hit those areas in a while and the mobs had moved in again.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

KarateKid.5648

There are quite some arguments for Frostgorge

- The zone is flat and easy to navigate
- Level 80 champs so best lootchance
- The champs do NOT SCALE !! because they are not part of Events, and so they are killed very much faster.

But you need to be very quick to get kill credit, or maybe I need more speed buffs as without those forget the frost’ train.

When I’m on my ele or thief, I can keep up, but I have issues with mesmer unless I remap a couple skills.

For those with slow professions or lack of speed buffs or don’t want to remap to similar skill types: 1) Ask to group with a few folks in the zerg – it helps for the two bosses most people get to in the last 20-30% if their character is slow. 2)consider skipping the underwater worm (jump straight to brood mom and wait a minute or three), and skipping troll (get back to fish). Yes, you lose two bags, but if you can’t keep up, you run the risk of mssing more than that.

KarateKid.5648

I don’t understand the “discussion” here. You want champ train to be nerfed because of its rewards or because of the player attitude???

If it’s reward, why the hell do you care how much others are making? And actually, many don’t realise the FG train is not that much more profitable than doing dungeon or world bosses run, until those two options hit DR. How many players do you think camp in the train for more than 2-3 hours? I can tell you, not that many.

If it’s the player you concern, the “bad mouth” players will still be in the game, train removed or not. They will still boot you in dungeon for whatever reason. Train doesn’t make people talk kitten. “Bad” people make train looks “bad”. And tbh, my server’s train is very friendly from my experience. Worm dead because of guild mission? We just move on to drake. Champ bag is more important than kitten talking.

The user inferface for this game is weird when lined up alongside the game mechanics.

Said mechanics scream action game. Skills fire no matter if you have a target or not, constant movement, it is pretty much a third person shooter.

But unlike a third person shooter, it have by default 15+ different keys my may want to hit during a fight. The full numbers row, F1-4, whatever you have set as dodge (unless you double tap to do so, tho i suspect it gets turned off after the first jumping puzzle). Some even play with the inventory window open so they can access various consumables (spiky fruit spam in WVW anyone?).

Contrast this to TERA, where the default is a short skill bar of only 5 slots (tho multiple heights via a modifier key).

Or Neverwinter, where you have only 6 skills up at any one time (and 3 consumables, one of them sitting right next to the big guns keys).

Or to toss in a “shooter”, Firefall. Where you have only 4 combat skills, and a weapon swap (each weapon, two fire modes).

I swear that ANet is trying to use the user interface to artificially ramp up difficulty. One item of evidence is how they soon after general release rearranged guardian hammer skills. This so you no longer could hit the skills in 2-3-4 sequence to gain easy combos. Instead you had to jump 2-4-3 for the same benefit.

It really is – I’ve adapted, but it took time to understand their thought process.

And while we’re at it, relocating skills on the bar such that it is more intuitive to the individual player would be a nice-to-have. I can remap buttons, but I’d rather just shuffle location on the skill bar for a few skills per profession.

I can’t kill them on my own but there is a huge pressure in the chat NOT to kill a champ before a train arrives. And I don’t like that. That is my message.

I’m one of those people who run trains, and yes it’s annoying when it gets derailed, but we move on – about a minute later when we’ve moved on to the next, we’ve forgotten about the last one not being there.

Additionally, trains should only affect your game play below ~40 and above ~70… anything between those levels you should be able to solo decently.

Ignore the chat, play the game, kill yer champ, loot, and be happy

EDIT: Look at it this way – everyone spewing at you in chat is falling behind on the train

Compared to Windows, the framerate is lower. I haven’t noticed it at all becoming an issue during WvWvW zergs (I just started playing WvWvW, but it feels no different zerging a keep than it does running PvE or just exploring WvWvW). It’s EXTREMELY noticeable in all dragon and similar fights.

And it seems my post was premature… the BLTP black screen issue is still there, just not constant now – sometimes it populates the graphics, sometimes it doesn’t. Which is odd, considering it works perfectly fine in Mac, which leverages an offshoot of Wine.

One of the projects we’re working on in preparing the game to release in new regions is trying to make the game easier to learn. While a lot of that work is in the area of better tutorials, better level up messaging guides, and unique tutorials for specific mechanics we’re also evaluating UI complexity (and system complexity) to try and make information easier to see/consume.

Cleaning up the existing UI systems to make them less cluttered, more-stream lined, and better unified is part of this project and absolutely something you’ll see in the west as well, likely around or possibly even before we release the game in our next major world region.

And to get ahead of the next question: No, we have no solid dates! We’re still in beta in China and are testing and developing all of these new systems to make the game is easier to learn. We haven’t announced timelines for development any other major regions other than being in Beta in China at this time.

Just implement the customizability you had in GW1… let me move or remove UI elements like you used to.

instanced living story content via a time-bending asura npc. That’d be a nice way to let us (re)live content we miss.

Tengu as a playable race

Quite a large number of the people asking for tengu are from GW1, not GW2. While not a central focus of the storyline then, the tengu (mostly Angchu, as noted before) did play a substantial part..

Ohh guilty as charged. But the other races don’t BOTHER me, I have just been Tengu-curious (heheh) for a long time.

What’s a Tengu?

Interesting… prolly because we know so little about them.

I want to see this happen – not because I am a lore nut or anything, but because those map areas remaining unexplorable drives me INSANE.

Oh bloody necro – sorry.

Maguuma and Rata Sum - Nicely Done

OK, having played through all of the starting locations now, I have to commend ANet for the “depth” in Maguuma and Rata Sum. I’m not talking dynamic events or hearts – more the general ambient activity the Asura have going on.

No other homeland area feels quite as active and alive from a standpoint of side chatter, activity, and general “stuff going on”. The scripted NPC-to-NPC interactions remain funny to me even after running several characters through the region (ok, except the Accountancy Waypoint NPC’s, but that’s a function of me hanging around in there frequently).

As a contrast, I found starting a Norn and a Human both boring as snot.

Well-done, ANet; and I hope to see some additions of the same kind of environmental chatter/activity to the other regions in the future.

Prolly not. Short-term it’d be great for all of us to offload excess. Long-term it could make leveling luck completely irrelevant.

I thank you and my poor keyboard (which I smash like mad when skills don’t fire on time) thanks you.

Is Anet afraid of expansion not selling?

While I’d be up for an expansion, I think it’s worth noting that selling a large, bundled product like an expansion does have some negatives as well as positives. When you do an expansion, you split the playerbase between those who have it and those that don’t, which means that the expansion can only have a very limited effect on the existing world…

This ^

If such an expansion were released (and assuming it was interesting enough and not just repackaged LS), I’d buy it; but there is a VERY real risk of the split occurring and a significant portion of your folks without the expansion simply leaving.

Yes! I would love an extra field beside the existing one (250) to say “how many 250’s”!
