What tittle says. Gw2 has the most kittened up targeting system I have ever seen in any mmo. How kitten up is that if you use single target meele attacks while hugging your enemy and end up hiting someone else or random mob or clone ? 90 % of time. Seriously, once i have even tried burning out heartseeker on target locked mesmer in close ranger and ended up killing all his clones, never touched mesmer.
He used his skills wisely just as you did. Congrats, he ran away. you won.

I could pull a draw on any class. Especially warrior. After hating on thief from such a long time, it is a lot harder then many other classes. I thought when I first started playing It was gonna be faceroll easy but it is the hardest class i’ve played yet, the only class i haven’t played is ranger. That being said. Some fights you just won’t win. Some fights you can’t win. if you got him down to 5% chances are he had one hit left and used his ohcrap button to escape. So yes, I would say you won.
You just picked the class with the second best escaping ability and say that every class can ‘pull a draw’.
Where’s my Engineer’s 1200 range teleport? Why can’t every class have as good an ‘oh crap’ button as stealth + Shadowstep/Infiltrator’s Arrow?
The best way to beat a thief is to play a thief. This is coming from a warrior main and let me tell you, it really works.
I have a Thief. Nobody can catch me, not even another Thief. Stealth lets me literally walk away from every encounter that I don’t want to fight anymore/cannot win.
Engineers and thieves are two entirely different classes. It is like comparing candy to steak. Both can be tasty and have their appealing characteristics and neither are better then the other. I’ve seen an engineer face tank a well coordinated team of players and down two of the 5 before escaping. I Can’t say I’ve seen a thief operate that well other then a few assorted videos here on the forums and ever there it looked like the people that were being killed had no idea what they were doing.

When its 1 vs 2 S/D daze rotation on resser works very well, but if its more ppl you might get into trouble. Imo ressurecting speed is COMPLETALLY RIDICULOUS! Ability to ressurect completally dead players IN COMBAT even more.
Why only Soldier Trinkets in www badge+gold vendor ? When more gear was intoduced to www with reduced badge prices and added gold, only soldier trinkets were added to that merchant. Why not to add Trinkets with other stats, same as armor/weapons.
WXP… Attacking>Defending, PVE>PVP. If object is being defended just change spot, gives you more bang for your buck… (bang being wxp). I know it sux.

I liked the old Flanking Strike, I played that set in the age where D/D backstab and heartseeker spammers were rampant and have a lot of fun with it.
The single boon removal, the dodge and the unforgiving pathing made that skill a real challange giving great results if user properly.
I needed to know where is the right position to cast it to make the skill land, I needed to know when to use it to remove the right boon because I wasn’t able to afford to spam it to remove all the boons.I understand that some people who are used to leap skills like HS may get frustrated on Flanking Strike and then refused to use it, in fact the path adjusting is the only buff I can understand.
But they completely messed it. Right now, Flanking Strike is the new era of succesful spammers. 2-2-2-2 has become 3-3-3-3. You can easily steal ALL boons from any boon-reliant profession with no efforts at all while dealing sweet constant damage, evading and have the initiative cost split in 2 installments.
I mean, why? It’s like they want the Thief to be the hole where all the spammers, FotM abusers and baddies should be confined to.

I don;t want to live in world wherelvl 80 player can lose to lvl 37 thief.I’ve killed full 80s 1vs1 on my Thief when I was just lvl 18. Basically take your thief, replace your gear with lvl 75 masterwork, no runes or sigils, whatever upgrades that came with the trinkets already, only invest 8 trait points, and only use your first two utility skills (third tier utilities unavailable so do use any of them). Oh and no consumables (ie food).
And you will have waaaaay better stats then upleveled thief. Btw that just proves how terrible most of www community is if they die to upleveled thief.

Guardians don’t get everything in one tree. Shout cooldown and shout condition removal, both of which are extremely important, are in another tree. A popular trait build for Guardians is 0/0/30/30/10. 60 trait points devoted to survivability. Of course, Thieves can build something like 0/10/30/30/0, but it’s not particularly common. Almost any trait distribution that takes some form of survivability will put 30 (or at least 20) points into SA (Edit: into SA first. It’s extremely uncommon to put points into acrobatics before SA)
are you comparing [guardian] and [thief] ?
[guardian] = [heavy] armor + [low] health pool
[thief] = [medium] armor + [low] health poolbasically,
[guardian] = boons, support, etc
[thief] = stealth, burst, etcyou cannot compare then.

I have dps-tested comparing DA build to SA build and the result is they do the same backstabbing damage, and if you disagree do yours and let the number speak will ya?

D/P is fine without the bug on SA minor 25 (the bug meaning gaining might when stacking stealth duration). The reality is thief is actually underpowered in tourny, because of stealth, we never can be good point defender ( we used to be able to with condition build but that’s long gone). The only role we can do well in tourny is burst damage. It’s funny that as thief we can’t do point stealer well either since our burst is not strong enough to duel most of point defender meta builds. The damage from SA line really doesn’t help much since whenever we stacking might in stealth we are actually losing points.The only place its good for is wvw small roaming group or solo troll.
And what I am asking for is to move this might stacking minor 25 trait to DA maybe minor 15 and restore mug to give us more burst from DA while keeping the permastealth, healing . cleanse in SA and make SA minor 25 a stat conversion trait. This way we get buffed in tourny and slightly nerfed in the meta d/p wvw troll build so we might be seeing the real burst build 25/30/0/0/15 coming back to WVW and people might start trying out different traits for Sword/Dagger build instead of the same traits from d/p.
I am sick’nTired of seeing 80% of toons during wvw trash hours are d/p thieves and peeps qqin us op basedon that while actually we quite underpowered in tourny. Fixing the SA line would be a good remedy IMO to fix that.

The difference for Thieves being that they actually need to trait into Might to do it, since they have no skills or utilities that do it for them. So what are you crying about again?

The fact that those players need a “Your spec is invalid for 30s” button to win is a pretty sad commentary on WvW.
The fact that these thieves needed a “Your spec is invalid for half the fight” is a pretty sad commentary on thieves. Let’s be quite honest here. When going stealth, the player loses the thief as a target. This invalidates half their skills right there. Not having a clue where the thief could be pretty much invalidates the rest.
Your inability or unwillingness to learn to counterplay a thief is not the same as invalidation. Your skills still work, you just don’t know how to use them properly.
The fact that thieves still appear to be some mythical menace in WvW, yet in TPvP people have no issue with them is an example of the skill and experience gap between the 2 game types.
Don’t bring everyone down to your level, aspire to rise to theirs.
This is probably the 10th time that I’ve said this – do not compare WvW to sPvP (or tPvP).
-Crit damage is capped
-Damage (in general) is less
-Stealth stops point capping. This is enormous
-Running away serves no purpose in sPvP. In WvW it stops a very long walk back and you can go do other things like kill dolyaks. In PvP if you run away then you just lose the point.It doesn’t have anything to do with the relative ‘skill levels’. If you want to talk about ‘skill levels’ didn’t the recent SOAC tournament conclude with the 5-Thief team winning?
Seriously, stop bringing up this argument. It’s completely un-related. (And by this point I’ve all but given up hope that this forum knows what ‘balance’ is. Seems like Anet does though, somewhat).
Stealth also stops point capping in www. Which is also enormous btw. In the end WWW is same as Spvp – capping points, just in bigger map with more points to cap and more ppl.
To everyone continuously saying non-stealth builds are viable, please share them! I have tried building one that doesn’t rely on stealth and I get absolutely nowhere, so I went for a Ranger instead (lol). Please, share.
Full PVT S/D and Shortbow 10/0/0/30/30. Mug for that op heal, vigor on heal, cripple/chilled remove on dodge, pain response or healing on initiative spent w/e, dodgetrops, initiative on heal, thrill of the crime or bontiful theft. Withdraw for heal. As for utilities – shadowstep, signet of shadows, maybe signet of agility for extra condition cleaning. Tactics would be 3333333333 and repeat. Oh and unbind cloak and dagger because we dont want to use stealth with no stealth build by accident do we ? As for elite – thieves guild… because… You rly expect to do damage with no stealth build while using full pvt gear that lets you come to survivability of full berserk warrior? Seriously?

Today I also used stealth trap on other thief… That was done in ruins of surmia border (my home border) near redwatter camp by a full cultural t3 female thief in black. If you read this, I’m sry but i couldn’t ressist
now that the traps are in the thiefs needs to use something else then pure zerker gear as they cant survive if they cant get stealth but hey welcome to all othere classes that cant do that
you now need to use thoughness and/or vitalety to survive like everybody else

Since i balanced my thief gear around some precise stats, changed the way i play and focused on something else than OMG backstabz!!!!111!!1 i can stay in stealth or without stealth with no consequences.
Drop a trap for 1v1? No problems, i can stay in the 1v1 fight as long as i want to, and in the end it’s always the enemy to flee.
I’m much, much, much worried about the other trap.
3 in a row, claculate the right distance between each of them, place those traps at certain points and you can steal all the supplies.(3 is just a number, didn’t test anything, maybe it will require more, maybe less)
When revealed thief gets blinds only with D/P, the most stealth heavy weapon set in game. So u saying that every thief should run d/p or s/d evade spam just to have a chance to stay in fight instead running like a kitten for 30s? Oh right, after last update 90% of thief community runs D/P and S/D troll dedicated builds with perma stealth from black powder/hs combos and infiltrators strike abuse which actually didnt change at all, but somehow became new meta after flanking strike buff

More likely this is because most thieves overuse the constant stealth mechanic in wvw.

D/D Its is Cnd/Backstab/AA. Dancingdagger is highly situational. Heartseeker is a gap closer. Death blossom – u must be kidding me.
S/D It still is a CnD/tactical strike/AA. Infiltrators strike is a gap closer/antistun/condition cleaner and can put some confusion, but its only a troll tool if used much since it cuts out your damage if u jump all over the place. Flanking strike strike is still crap, ofc after it was buffed and announced as a viable skill every thief i see in www runs s/d and spams 333333333 till they are out of initiative ( 222222222 anyone ? ). Dancing dagger again very situational.
P/D Cnd/Sneak attack/few vital shots/insert dodge where needed repeat. Body Shot – plz… Shadow strike – highly situational, might work if stun break is on cooldown and u are pinned down, but its 4 initiative less to acess stealth and use only ability that actually does some damage – sneak attack. Dancing dagger as on every X/D weapon set is highly situational.
So yes CnD and stealth is bread and butter of X/D builds and if you dont “overuse it” you are doing it wrong.
Just like some of the previous posters have said: anti-stealth traps are not gonna be a problem for the roaming thief. Too expensive, requires 10 supplies and the cost is just way too high.

Now imagine somebody providing that thief stability or thief providing stealth for his ally full bunker guardian. Enemy teams won’t have any supplies. Gg, and another epic fail from Arenanet.
So in other words: this latest patch gave more power to thieves since they have the best access to stealth. So just relax and you can continue to play Thief Wars 2.

presicion is not so good without good amount of power and crit damage, so presicion and condition damage doesnt work well together. Btw biggest part of that comes from gear, not from your traits.
You are right about survival part. And about damage … Since when do we have dps meters in this game? No, zerker warriors do more damage then any build thief would do. Specially D/p… FYI D/D with its CnD/backstab/aa chain rotation does more damage then d/p.
removing mug critical hit still makes thiefs in www too strong as due to www environment they can stay perma invisible and cloak delay from 4 to3 second was a mistake as it actualy make fight against them results in certain death as well with ability to finish in stealth
conditions removal and healing in stealth with ability go to stealth and hit from stealth without any penalizations as they can cloak within second with heavy dmg makes them extremely hard to kill even with several experienced players as they can fully regenerate in few seconds because stealth remove agression from them

Lol wow rogue is so much better then gw2 thief. Doesnt even matter that it has at most 2x in combat stealth under cooldown or gets kicked out form stealth with aoes.
Stop fooling yourself. P/D does not work in the zerg. In the zerg you need that damage and/or aoe. P/D have none of that. Its great in small fights against non tanky players with little condi removal. IF built right its is very very durable build via stealth,blinds, condi removal, dodges, close to perma vigor and freedom to open up from range and any direction you chose.
Protip: Your bullets are projectiles, do not shoot at daggerstorming thief:) . And make a set of keybinds. Not hating, just want to help improve.
I think we should do stealth the way stealth is done in almost all other mmo’s. Thief enters stealth and stays in stealth indefinitely until he attacks, is attacked, or performs an un-clandestine action. If a skill gives a thief limited time of cloaking, the thief cannot be removed from stealth unless he attacks and after cloaking period, stealth behaves normally. Also thieves now have a 600 range sapping skill (15 sec stun PvP, 60 sec stun PvE and WvW), which can only be used from stealth. We should just do this and stop this more op-version of GW2 stealth.
Better yet, my suggestion for fixing stealth is to do it the DnD way with different states of stealth such as cloaked and concealed.edit: this is a sarcastic hyperbole offering a counter-argument to the claim GW2 stealth is overpowered.
Oh oh I know even better ! Lets import WoW Rogue with all his skills and utilities! Taking into account that there is no pvp deffence ( aka resilence) in gw2 and hp limit is between 10-30 k we thieves would 2 hit allmost anyone ! Oh and for best part – vanish that gives complete invulnurability for few seconds to complete that stomp ! Ambush Eviscerate, Ambush Eviscerate !
