Precursor from new reward system?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yet it would have been a good idea. Colin said 1 token for dailies and 10 for monthlies so put it for 100 tokens and it takes 2 months and a half of hard work to get a precursor. Seems fair.

Except of course if they still don’t want to touch that stuff yet, question of profits or whatever conspiracy…

Yeah we’ll need to figure out something for folks who do fall into that category, I just want to make sure to get out ahead of expectations so people don’t all feel they should now go rush off and have to do this (or other infinitely repeatable achievements.) We don’t want people to feel they need to play the game that way and have it be the best way to be rewarded.

I just got the best achievement ever ; getting quoted and answered by Colin Johanson on the forums

Anyway you should do that more often, it’s nice to see how you’re answering and clarifying things

He posted a screen shot with 20k+ points a while back.

Ouch xD they should not give any extra reward for farming those achievements but at least they should let the points.

I’m not so concerned, I have only 72 points in my salvaging achievement, but 20K xD the guy is gonna cry

The initial version will only be for daily/monthly achievements (this will not be retroactively rewarded.) Later you’ll see a system in place that rewards more expanded achievements points which will retroactively reward all achievements already earned, yes.

However, there are some achievements which are infinitely repeatable currently. It is highly likely so this new system isn’t broken we’ll need to cap those and people who have made insane progress down one of those lines will lose some of their progress to get back to the cap. I wouldn’t recommend anyone go bonkers trying to progress an infinitely repeatable achievement category in anticipation of the release of this system, as you will likely lose some points/progress if you take it to an extreme number.

We’re still working out the details on the system, so that’s about as far into detail as I can go currently.

Old graphics. Repetitive dungeons. Raids, I hate raids. Boring quests, no DEs.

Collecting mounts and minis was the last enjoyable thing – not worth it alone. GW2 has a good core game – it lacks rewarding such things.

Excuse me but until that 2013 biggy update comes, GW2 has still the worst end-game of MMOs. Mounts as he said, were awesome to collect in WoW and would be even more awesome in GW2.

Also rollbacks are sad but ArenaNet can’t really do anything ; servers save every x time and when they crash like this, they have to backup on last save. Though 1 hour is a bit long… A save is every 15 mins, something like this.

How to destroy RMTs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Keiran.1896

Stuff that the official price is too high for just won’t sell as nobody wants to pay that price. And stuff that has the ‘official’ price set just right… well, I suppose that’ll happen occasionally, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

So the price right now are right? 400 gold for a precursor? 3 copper for some crafting mats?

Actually I think those things would adapt with a constant price ; no gold sellers, no reason to make gold sinks and drop rate nerfing… a precursor would be set at something like 30-50 gold… Well the economy wouldn’t suffer that much and the advantages are great.

Giving stuff and money to friends – is it fair? I mean, for other players? With my system everyone would have to earn things themselves, and, that’s not so bad.

And power leveling, ha, useless in GW2, the progression is so fast and fun.

But again, this system would require a lot of efforts from devs because it would require GW2 to adapt a lot to it. Not possible there. A suggestion for future MMOs…

Keiran.1896

Read again, I didn’t say that I wanted to see this in GW2. The game is simply not made for it. ArenaNet would have to stop selling gold (since their “best excuse” to sell gold was about killing RMTs).

But a game thought at the very beginning to work with this, could be a very good game.

How to destroy RMTs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

(RMT = Real Money Traders.)

So I like to think about solutions to problems of videogames and every single MMO has the same problem: RMTs (also called Gold Sellers). They sell gold (or whatever currency the game has) to the players in exchange of real money.

Logically, it seems impossible to stop them. As soon as the game has a tradable currency, gold sellers are there, selling gold to players, and polluting the game with hacking, botting and economy manipulation.

Well, I have been thinking a lot about this, and I think that I have figured out how a game could avoid all these problems without removing its currency ;

1. Disabling all direct trade between players (disabling mails to other players in GW2), that’s a logical step.

2. Here comes the real idea ; instead of letting player choose prices on Auction House (Trading Post in GW2), the game would decide prices for them. And prices would never change.

ex: You loot an item X (mini, mount, skin, whatever you want). You decide to sell that item on the Auction House. 500 gold. You didn’t decide ; the game tells you that this item worth 500 gold, so you can only sell it for that price.

As consequences,
- Gold Sellers cannot sell gold -> No spam.
- They have then no interest in farming gold -> No bots, no economy manipulation.
- They have then no interest in hacking people neither -> No hacks.
- Gold has still a value and allows you to buy good things. Even if you must get it yourself.

But also,
- You can’t give gold or items to your friends.
- You can’t decide your prices or make benefits via trading technics.

Also, if players are not happy with a constant price, you can also make the price change in function of supply/demand (like mats merchants in GW1). That way traders could still make some benefits.

Honestly, I don’t think at all that this can be implemented in GW2. ArenaNet chose to “fight RMTs” by selling gold, well RMTs are still there, as well as bots, hackers, market manipulation… It’s kinda “too late”.

If ever YOU want to make a MMO,

Come back in 20 days.

We’ll see if you still think the same way.

I mean, sure this game is awesome with its graphics, its gameplay, I was just like you at level 7 and now I see what the devs have done with the end-game…

Oh my gad, running repetitive dungeons again and again, just like WoW… no reason to come back to the wonderful areas, it’s totally unrewarding… the only activity I still enjoy is massive PvP, and yet it lacks real rewards too…

And they are trying to make you grind for legendary weapons that they sell for real money. Lol ! I mean sure it’s great to get a legendary but it’s just dumb if someone else can get it for a little thousand dollars.

I was the same as the OP when I started and I guess I would also qualify as the person coming back 20 days later because I have had the game almost a month. My highest character is level 40 and that’s not from lack of playtime or ability, its from enjoying the game as I come up. I’ve made and deleted characters as I am trying and experimenting with different race/class combos and storylines.

I still enjoy exploring every area to the fullest and by that I mean beyond the map completion points. If I had ignored all that and rushed to 80 I suppose I may feel the same way as you. Then I would have missed everything else the game had to offer though, and whose fault would that be but mine?

People need to be responsible for their situation, especially ones they put themselves in. There is still so much of the game I have not seen yet and I am not even the slightest bit feeling the need to speed things up and reach 80. It’s been a long time since I have enjoyed a game so much that I have taken my time with it.

That being said, with the varying playstyles of people and wants and desires in MMO’s I don’t think the endgame should be lackluster under the excuse “the game is still new”. Any company wanting to be successful and have a happy consumer base needs to account for the type of player that does rush through leveling to play at the end game. It’s becoming more and more prevalent and companies are going to need to adapt to that and have content ready to roll out consistently, even with a month or so of release.

I guess I try to see things from all angles and what I am trying to get across is that although it may not be the case for you, it is possible to still have that feeling after 20 days, 30 days and more. I respect your feelings on the game though and hope they address things to make it more enjoyable for you.

Cheers.

I’ve not missed anything, I’ve explored everything, done every single jumping puzzle… maybe a few events that I have never done but no point in seeking those, they don’t reward anything good. But I’ve really not missed anything, I’ve just completed the game faster than others like you.

But really, the core game is wonderful and everything but as I said, it’s handled like <kitten word> in the end. They said the game begins at level 80, well all I can say is that it ends and not nicely. The game is EXTREMELY polished from level 1 to 40, still worked from lvl 40 to 70 and then it’s just <kitten word> full of bugs, undeads, rushed content, and no one to tell you what to do with the events they’ve made.

Fractals ; grindy and annoying.
WvW ; great and unrewarding.
Open world ; awesome and no point.
Legendary ; impossible and no point since people can buy it with dollars.

REWARDS, hell, REWARDS, is it so complicated? Or do you have to sell every single mini/cool skin in the cash shop, Anet? In the name of logic, you need players to buy those things in the Gem Store! And you have far less players if no rewards.

So much awesome.

Such a sad state of mind.

More rewards, more rewards, more rewards!
And if you’re inevitably done with them?

Then we’ll have even more rewards!

Yes, it’s how gamers work. Even if they enjoy/love a game they need rewards to play them. WoW understands it and puts such tokens everywhere for mounts/minis. A way to keep busy those who don’t like repetitive dungeons. And it works.

Please… this makes so much sense considering these systems allready exist (dungeons, fractals, WvW etc) just not in open world PvE.

Tokens could be related to the heart/quest though, so escort quests give Lionguard tokens. And spread the rewards vendors out over the world for varity. Champions and event bosses should give special tokens that can be traded for really special rewards, like runes of divinity (account bound if necessary).

It isn’t adding grind, it’s adding re-playability and a defined rewards system outside of RNG and generic silver/karma for completing a quest/heart.

Nice idea for champions. Let’s replace all tokens by one token : Hero Token.

1 heart replay ; 1 hero token.
1 event ; 2 hero tokens.
1 event you have never done before ; 6 hero tokens (ignores maximum per day).
1 champion killed ; 10 hero tokens (ignores maximum per day).

Max per day ; 100 tokens.

Rewards examples ;
20 tokens = 1 skill point.
3000 tokens = A piece of legendary armor.
4000 tokens = 1 precursor.

A such system would need to be polished / improved / better thought but this is the general idea of how I’d imagine it.

Instead of tokens couldn’t they just make Karma more useful? Such as Tier 2 and 3 racial items having a Karma cost option instead of just gold.

I also think maybe they should allow someone who’s completed an area 100% to maybe have free waypoint travel.

Best thing I could think of is bring back GW1 features. Elite skill capturing, and rare weapon skin chances on major world bosses/events. Not just a chance to get a precursor. Items that would only be found on that boss/event.

Free Waypoint -> They will never accept, it’s a gold sink to sell more gold.

Hearts do not give karma, yet if you want a good replayability they should be apart of it, they’re a big part of the progression in the game.

Elite skill capturing… no. Rare weapon skin… myea but player would just take the skin they like and then stop. There’s no HoM or skin collection in GW2.

IMO they really need a HoM or/and housing, that way they could easily reward canvas/trophies/skins sets with such tokens. And players would be happy to run after those.

But I said events tokens should be more rewarding than hearts ones. Simply because events are not grind. That way, you can seek events and avoid being bored on the way by doing hearts.

Also, there are 301 hearts. Enough for you to change everyday. Put a limit to like 50 per day and:
1. Nerds won’t get all the rewards in one day.
2. Casuals will have a chance to catch up too.
3. Rewards will only be accessible in a minimum of days (ex: 20 days for a legendary component worth 1000 tokens).

I prefer this than fractals… Or just doing nothing and leaving.

1. When you complete a heart, it becomes blue and you can complete it again once a day for a “heart token”. With a lot of those tokens, you can check a trader and buy exclusive rewards such as skins/minis/black lion keys/legendary components/ascended components/skill points/karma/money…

2. When you complete an event, you get 1 “event token”. When you complete one that you have never completed before, you get 3. With those tokens, you can get even more rewards that with hearts tokens.

See? Players rush hearts all across the game everyday and seek constantly new events. That’s what I call:
Replayability.

Throwing rares is actually stupid.

When you throw 4 rares, you have like 5% chance to get an exotic.
When you throw 4 exotic, you are guaranted to get an exotic.

So your chance to get a precursor, whatever they are, are divided by 20 whenever you use rares. Are exotics 20x more expensive than rares? No. Conclusion: it’s much cheaper to use exotics.

Also, when you use the 4 cheaper exotics of the TP, (ex: worth 2g/ea), you have a chance to get an exotic that worth much more. Like 5 gold. So in the end, it will only cost you 3 gold.

But I agree that precursors should NOT be acquired that way. Luck is the worst thing that exists in the universe.
