Let’s say I want to make an event in a game: a troll is attacking a village.
A classic MMO: a NPC gives you a quest through a wall of text. You kill the troll, you take the reward. The troll respawns. Next quest…
Guild Wars 2: the troll dynamicly attacks the village, his life is scaled and shared between players, and everyone gets a reward. 20 mins later, it respawns.
But isn’t there a better way to do this stuff?
The way I’d do this: I’d take Arenanet’s concept of events but add a few things.
First, the troll could come from 5 different directions to attack the village (to not give a feeling of repetition).
Secondly, the event’s kind of mob could vary. The game would take a random choice from a monster selection: Ettin, Spider, Troll…
But also the game would choose a random number of mobs: for example if it chooses Spider and 5, then it will be a group of five spiders attacking the village.
So let’s resume our event. It can be several kinds, numbers of mobs and it can come from different directions. It can very well become a big Troll boss attacking a village from North, or 5 ettins attacking from East, or 15 spiders from West… You could even add a random number of waves so it can become 6 waves of 5 monsters!
So programming one event, you’d in fact create hundreds of possibilities and an illusion of hundreds of events.
I’m not a programmer but I’m sure this isn’t a bad idea. Think about it.

You need:
- A riding broom from the Gem Store.
- To bind a key to “Switch Armor/Town Clothes”. (Mine is “L”)
Step 1: Equip your riding broom.
Step 2: Press 1 to ride your broom. (Make sure to be in Town Clothes)
Step 3: Write /dance while riding your broom.
Step 4: Press 1 again and your broom will appear while dancing.
Step 5: Switch to armor.
Step 6: Enjoy!
Just wanted to share!
I’m sure it can be awesome to show off with a legendary weapon like Twilight. Enjoy!
I’m still waiting for a game so big that I don’t have to worry about those invisible walls…
they said they can’t announce whens the scavenger hunt cause they’re afraid the market is gonna tank. They also mention they’re currently not working on it, which could implement they’re trying to mask the scavenger hunt.
I don’t remember where or in what context but Colin mentionned Scavenger Hunt as a “priority” for them.
I’m really crossing fingers for it to come for March, or at least some good news about it.
So, for the update of March, you kinda “promised” that we will get rid of culling.
But recently I’ve noticed a new behavior in WvW, at least on my server ; before we meet another army the commander is always asking to put stealth on us so that they don’t see us coming. Which creates an effect totally similar to culling ; ennemies see us appearing in the middle of their group and they all die.
So, aren’t you afraid that players will tell you that culling is still there after that update, just because of stealth?
Thanks for the fast answers, guys.
I think that I’m going to go for farming, though apart from weekends/holidays, I don’t have much time for this kind of grind.
I’ll try.
Hello,
I’m working on a legendary weapon and I’m a bit short on the gold – too bad because I need 8 stacks of T6 material and they go for 40-80 gold/stack at TP.
(Not even speaking about the precursor, I hope they’ll find a solution for this one soon.)
So is there a way to get those without spending too much gold?
Farming some locations? Creating extra mystic clovers? I can’t find a very good solution to my problem.
One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built."
And I guess Guild Missions is the way you do this?
Just give everyone missions, stop restricting the content and the rewards if you want everyone to go to the locations you’ve already built! I dunno who had this idea of “Guild Missions” but to me it’s a complete failure.
Would be cool to have a Dwayna or Lyssa or Melandru domain. I think this would be great for new dungeons in expansions.
Yea but those domains are like heaven. No bad guys. Nothing to do there.
Only problem: those are gods’ domains. Gods are gone. They’d need to come back first.
FoW: Balthazar.
UW: Grenth.
10 jugs of karma
10 mystic coins
10 laurels
afew silver and afew exp
aka nothing to be even fussed about if you miss and if your that obsessed in compleating this you wouldnt have cared for what ever monthly they lobbed at you
It’s actually 20 mystic coins.
Check yourself: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Monthly
With the fix to the behemoth meta event, perhaps the meta event that takes place in the Tengu area is now also fixed?
I just did Xolotl, 5 minutes ago, just after reading what you said.
It loots a very small chest called “Hylek Treasure”. Unlike other boss events, I didn’t get the guaranted rare. A few blue and greens only. No wings of dwayna, of course.
The hylek cave in Caledon Forest.
If you have some friends, achievement done in 5 minutes.
Interview with a developper about the WvW March update:
So, basically, you’ll have a progression in WvW granting you ranks ; you’ll get progress for any ennemy killed, camp captured, etc…
These ranks will come with new passive abilities: more supply carried, more damage to guards, more damage with siege weapons, less damage from siege weapons, etc…
From what I’ve understood, the ennemies will also see your experience: the “Invader” they see will be replaced by your rank.
Honestly, I’m very excited about this! A big “thanks” to Habib Loew, the developper, for this interesting interview.
(edited by Keiran.1896)
Yeh but what about getting lvl 80 before seeking money?
Might want to mention it here:
See? How does every node of the rarest materials of the game get bugged in the same time? “unfortunate” bug?
Anet is gonna turn me in a mad conspiracy theorist soon…
(edited by Keiran.1896)
It’s a bug. They happen.
Why does every unfortunate event in this game translate to ArenaNet being a group of devils whose only love in life is making people’s lives miserable?
Because an openable door suddently stopped working with no reason? the door of a reward room??
Because orichalcum ore is not replaced by ruined ore chunks magically?
And maybe that the developper positioning the Orrian Sapling didn’t see the crashed ship placed just there??
So Arenanet seems to be specialized in hilarous glitchs, to prevent us from getting our precious materials.
Today on my map I saw an Orrian Sapling: great! it’s just that there’s a huge pact ship crashed on it and nobody can touch the sapling.
Think that’s all? while going to see if Jormag Claw was there, I saw an orichalcum node: great! So I started mining it before noticing that I was getting RUINED ORE CHUNKS worth exactly 2 copper each. I checked: my tools are orichalcum. All the players around said they had the same glitch. Though it was hilarous to see people mining twice the node and then panicking each time.
List of these kind of “unfortunate” glitchs is getting long. Last time it was the WvW puzzle’s chest room door not opening (remember?) and it took 4 weeks to resolve the problem.
I think people were getting a bit too much Badges of Honor from that puzzle…
(edited by Keiran.1896)
Yea during beta is was looting much faster.
I suspect that it was only a marketing move….
and why not
6/5 – Free legendary weapon
7/5 – 5,000 gold
8/5 – Truck of Karma (500,000 karma)
9/5 – 1,000,000 gems
No, never asking too much…
What about,
6/5 – Nothing
7/5 – Nothing
8/5 – Nothing
9/5 – Chest with 10 silver.
So when you have time to do it, you get some extra-silver to encourage you,
and if you don’t have time, you’re not too mad.
But that destroys the concept of choosing your dailies.
Instead of that you could make the other choices disappear after completing 5 dailies.
End of the story.
(edited by Keiran.1896)
thats not all there doing its also confermed that there rewriting the code for how characters render
that will take time, i good amount of time actualy
Yes because actually if you can’t buy a good computer to everyone you need to reduce the amount of informations they have to receive to see players around. Without replacing players by a bugged thing. Which requires quite some code optimisation.
Actually it’s both.
Arenanet is trying to “throw money at the problem” by simply adding server capacity but server capacity is not enough ; your computer needs to receive all these informations about players around you and sometimes your connexion is not good enough to see them all.
So basically, if you want less culling, you need to have a very good connexion and wait for Arenanet to optimise their servers.
(I’m not an expert but that’s what I understood from reading what devs said.)
Epic battles with 300+ players in the same time are maybe not aimed at 2013.
(edited by Keiran.1896)
For each boss, it’s one chest per character per day so people have no reason to go elsewhere to kill the boss again.
IMO, it’s maybe your server which is over-populated during such events.
I just want my precursor to craft The Dreamer.
(for less than 600 gold plz)
You do, however, get big chunks of xp for completing goals beyond the requisite 5. I’m not certain they’re any more than you get while doing the daily, but still noticeable.
I did the 9 dailies. Got nothing more than the regular small amount of XP of the 4 other dailies.
- Fixed a bug where a thief could be killed.
Sigh…
The game is called GUILD wars 2!
/thread
Haha, nice try but I still have the generic lore excuse!
\thread
Hello,
I am a player who doesn’t really like guilds. I like to play on my own, or sometimes with random players on online games but I really consider guilds as “not quite attractive”.
Yet, today I am downloading a patch of 500 mb containing missions, sounding pretty nice ; puzzles, hunts, rewards, all that stuff in Open World ; except that it’s for GUILDS only. WHY ?! I mean, half of your players probably don’t even care about guilds.
If people want to be owned by a leader, OK, if people want to follow some restrictions, OK, but don’t force others to get in a guild too if they want to taste the good content.
Well, those 500 mb are hard to take. I really hope next time you put some fun content for us, solo players, too.
Maybe after the 924th update that fails like this they’ll think about releasing it early instead of late…
(PS: 5 pm PST is 2 am on the next day for me)
(edited by Keiran.1896)
Why not?
We earn a lot of karma by simply playing WvW, that would be a good idea to let us buy some siege weapons with this.
You are the developpers, you decide.
I didn’t come to debate with more players about whether I should continue or not to build Flame Rames, but if you really want me to defend myself…
1. Players reporting me are putting “botting”. You guys are the first to complain when bots are not getting banned fast enough, yet everytime someone is doing something that you don’t like you report him for “botting” and you wonder why the Support Team is so busy and slow? They have to check everytime to see if this is truly about botting or not, and most of the time it is not. So yes, I call those players “stupid”. If they’re not happy, they should fill up a support ticket about me.
2. I guess thousands of people have already a legendary weapon, but how many have this title? The amount of supply needed for this title is INSANE, I mean, ONE MILLION!
1k per day takes 3 years.
5k per day is very hard and takes 200 days.
10k per day is insane and yet it still takes 100 days.
So can you imagine that this title is meant to be acquired “over time”, by simpling playing the game? A normal player, using like 300 supply everyday would take 9 years getting this!
3. Again, I’m not disturbing my server. Sure it’s disturbing the eyes of my team, when they see 5 flames rams in a camp, but in no way it’s disturbing their victory! Supply refills fast, siege weapons limit is separated from flame ram limit, and when I hear that a commander wants to refill his supply there, sure I leave the supply for them!
The problem with your behaviour is that your server is only allowed to have a set number of siege engines on the map.
Hm. I wasn’t aware of that.
If that’s the case… Yea, OP, you really shouldn’t be doing that.
I’ve noticed a limit because when you build 5 flame rames around a supply spot, you can’t build anything more in a determined perimeter. But that perimeter is pretty small, anyone can still build a lot of arrow carts/balistas inside the camp.
Here is my story.
I am an achiever. As you can guess, I like to achieve things in games, that’s what achievement are there for.
So I decided to launch myself into a challenge. Getting a WvW title. Pretty hard isn’t it? Yet I took the easy one: using 1,000,000 ressources into Siege Weapons.
As you can guess, it requires quite a grind. So I optimised my way to progress into it: buying massives amounts of Flame Rams (best for Ravits/Price) with honor badges and gold.
Now as you can guess, I need to use those Flame Rames. And I need to find the necessary supply.
Easy: supply camps. You can build up to 5 flame rams around a supply spot so I just have to build, leave, find another spot, build, etc…
Now, the biggest problem I ever had in that game: WvW players. Most of them on my server are stupid like hell. Every time they see me doing that, they want to report me.
And the discussion always goes like that:
Player: “Hey, you, what the hell are you doing. Flame Rames in a camp? You’re a f… spy.”
Me: “I’m just doing my achievements. Doesn’t bother anyone, supplies automatically refill in camps. And I’m not a spy, I don’t speak German (we are French, our ennemies are German) and why would an ennemy even pay gems and wait a week just for that?”
Player (did not read anything) : So you’re griefing us for achievements! What a selfish behavior!
Me: “But, it refills, so it doesn’t bother anyone!”.
Player: “Heh, everyone, this player is building Flame Rames in camps! Let’s report him!”.
Player2&3&4: “Oh what a noob let’s all report him!”.
Me: “Heh, but what motive are you going to put inside the report?”.
Player: “Botting!”.
Me: “Won’t work. Mods check if it’s true or not.”
Player: “No, we’ll massive report you and you’ll be banned!”.
So, yea, here is my daily suffering. Being reported, again and again, treated as a noob by my server and hunted everywhere. The thing I’m the most afraid of is to be really banned, so Mod, could you tell me if you are going to ban me for this?
Also, should I contact support? I’m here for that kind of advice, not to be bashed my more WvW players: “Heh, what you’re doing is really stupid! Let’s report you too!”.
Thanks for reading
Agreed. But I feel too slow.
I wish I could run a bit faster with a mount. In WvW for example, it feels stupid when you are an army of players, and you use only casts to run across the map.
Finally, re-introduce elite skill capping in conjunction with these new bosses.
^This
is a weird idea that players keep having. They would have to invent hundreds of new elite skills. Too many for Guild Wars 2. Wouldn’t work.
Otherwise I’d say: delete the champions. They are just useless.
No, this is clearly a reward for GW1 players only.
I have (lost?) several thousand hours on that game, GWAMM and 50/50 achieved, I’m not even sure a bunch of items and titles is enough to worth all these years on GW1.
(edited by Keiran.1896)
I am not a big user of the gem shop mainly because I do not find much in there worth buying. Some things that would get me to spend some cash are:
- New leveling zones
- New Races
- New Story ArcsThese are three things I would be glad to pay for and are something that could be implemented without forcing others to purchase them. What things would you like to see in the shop?
Yea, sure, they already sell gold, just put the last thing they don’t sell.
Out of sarcasm, emotes are a better idea. They don’t bother anyone and I’m sure that a lot of people will be happy to buy some new dances/animations.
(edited by Keiran.1896)
Also, don’t forget to use karma boosts with jugs. You can stack up to 90%: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Karma
Like all gambling boxes, I’m expecting the drop rate on any items in the box to be bad. So, 200k karma wasted later…6 Obsidian shards and roughly 30s worth of vendor trash so yep, I’d say so~~
Has anyone actually got the Balt pet yet and how much karma did you guys waste?
“6 Obsidian shards” <——— this
Give me those
Clearly you don’t know what you have…
6 shards isn’t worth 200k karma at all, from merchant.
Personnally, I’ll wait to have one million karma before opening any box.
edit: You can have a little taste of droprates here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lost_Orrian_Jewelry_Box/Drop_rate 0.21% for the pet
3M karma would get you good chances to have it.

My server (Arborstone [FR) is dead and empty.
Are you going to do something about this?
The problem is not really about PvE, I still see some other players while doing events – though while guesting I’ve noticed that compared to others, we’re not many.
The problem is about WvW. There are always between zero and three players playing WvW at the same time. Sadly, often zero. From all the week, I don’t remember seeing an ally at all… And I’ve been playing it daily to complete my daily events.
Meanwhile, ennemies are controlling the full map. It’s not only a matter of empty server, it’s also a matter of empty battle…. They have almost no one to fight.
You’re going to say; hey, you just had to use free transfers before guesting comes out – but hey, guesting made it empty. They all rushed on another server during the last week. I was punished for not running away.
Now I miss green names and epic battles in WvW… I miss the catapults and me repairing the doors and the walls of Stonemist Castle…
And no, I won’t pay 1700 gems (~half the game) to go on a good server.
End of the story. Now you can act like Blizzard and sleep on your money until half of your servers die,
Or you actually do something before it’s too late.
WvW can’t live without servers.
(edited by Keiran.1896)
Legendary weapons.
YES.
80 is a dumb choice. I want 100.
Wouldn’t cause any problem, with downscaling. Lvl 80 people already play dungeons like Ascalon Catacombs ; it’s level 30 and they don’t even notice the difference.
Laurels will only be rewarded from dailies and monthlies. Always. And it’s not retroactive.
However they’ll create OTHER rewards for normal achievements later on, and it will be retroactive.
BTW it was invented by Kekai Kotaki (gone from Anet ).
At first it was just a drawed joke called Potato Bag, later they called it quaggan and made it a race.
Just for the story. Not stolen from Mass Effect.
Well, I will only use it for Orr temples… a problem that shouldn’t be solved this way…
Skimpy, I want some skimpy too!
I’m kinda coming back for these laurels…
Or maybe you can just turn off sound when they’re annoying.
2 months, that isn’t enough to create so many pixels!
First, you need to think about how the item will be for 6 years, then write all the design on 16365 pages, then maybe you can start designing it.
/sad sarcasm about game designing nowadays
