It obviously depends on what you’re fighting. Some classes/builds are good at dealing with condis, some are not.

The usual builds for necros, warriors and eles for example have a lot of condi cleanses while engis and mesmers are usually carrying barely any cleanses.

Also the more people are participating in a fight the worse condi damage gets since guardians, eles and stuff can not only cleanse themselves but also their teammates. The extreme example would be WvW where condis are basicly nonexistent because of all the cleanses that get thrown arround by warriors, guards and eles.

So basicly condi builds are usually better at smaller fights against stuff with not too many cleanses (pretty obvious huh?).

I would much rather they made the guardian tougher, with more sustain while on the offensive and increased the miserable hp pool. No the trait that its 6 deep and we need for something else does not count.

Much rather they made it an all in class, but a proper paladin, than a rogue wannabe in meaningless plate armor.

No? I don’t want to be a warrior clone, I want ports, bursts, fast stuff. I like the idea of a suporting glasscannon class but in order to make glass work in this gamemode you need to be somewhat mobile.

I think you missed a part of what I said.

Meditation guardian is already a thing, you have ports, burst and support in one build. As I stated before the disengage/mobility is the last thing it’s missing to be as viable as other zerkers in high level tpvp.

If you want something that is tough, has no ninja stuff and a high hp pool you are probably the one who should switch classes and play warrior.

Apart from that it’s way too late for me to change classes ^-^

To be honest rotations in soloq can be pretty random sometimes, people usually don’t call out numbers, minimap doesn’t tell you much when there are a lot of people on one point.

I would just say go for even fights that you can win, don’t fight on enemy points unless you know/think that you can win it fast.

If people would actually tryhard, call numbers and talk about strategy in teamchat you could do more but as it is people usually don’t do that in soloq.

While I don’t really have that big of a problem with this map myself and I think that a lot of people are exaggerating a lot when talking about this map… how can the skyhammer thread have almost 1k responses and no dev response… while every other threat concerning skyhammer gets merged with it?

It’s just a prime example for why people are so frustrated. Getting ignored like that, getting no response even though they obviously see that there are a lot of threads concerning it, skyhammer still being in soloq even though they must be aware of how many people hate this map.

While I don’t really care about skyhammer, it really bothers me that we still have no statement why it still is in soloq and if they plan on ever changing it.

Sad thing is that I can already tell that this isn’t getting a dev response either and will probably get merged aswell. :/

Sadly its part of the game, you can’t change that. Because of that it would be bad design to leave a set up skills in disarray because the community doesn’t like AI.

They would either have to change the skills entirely which won’t happen or they can simply make them worth using with the mechanics they have now.

Ray of Judgment wouldn’t make much sense, unless they remove the casting time.

The shield is pretty good in some PvE situations, the hammer would already be pretty strong if it wouldn’t be for all the traits you would have to take to make it useful. The bow has the coolest animation guardian has (VALID POINT!).

Nobody likes mm necro, nobody likes turret engis, I don’t get why people want spirit wep guard to be a thing.

On a sidenote something that could be interesting would be making them work similar to conjures (which are kinda gimmicky aswell but still really strong in PvE); stuff you could pick up that gives you a new skillbar. The skins for the spirit weapons already exist as weapon skins anways.

But since that would require them to come up with a bunch of reworked traits and a new skillbars for each weapon, something like this probably won’t happen.

On a more serious note… All the stuff that ESL is currently doing should be ingame features imo (you should be able to create a team ingame, you should be able to sign up for the weeklies ingame and others should be able to spectate the matches ingame).

Instead of having to watch the stream there should be a spectate option for these kind of things so you can actually spectate the fights and the people you’re interested in. There could be requirements like leaderbord position or played teamq games this week so that these tournaments wouldn’t get flooded by random people which would most likely happen otherwise if you would announce the tournaments ingame (going through a bunch of freewins in TOL2 was pretty boring :/).

Having offical 2v2 tournaments (currently hosted by ESL) and actually having a lot of people spectating the games (at least I could imagine that people would rather spectate something ingame than watching a stream especially when it’s getting announced ingame) would probably make a lot of people happy.

On a sidenote I already made way more than 10k gems by participating in the 2v2 and conquest weeklies hosted by ESL so there would be your PvP rewards I guess.

To be honest the point most people bring up to “prove” that skyhammer shouldn’t be in soloq is that some classes are way better on this map than other ones. While this is certainly true, it’s also true for other maps. Teams with a lot of mobility (thieves and mesmers) have a pretty big advantage on khylo (porting up to clocktower, portal to treb stuff) while on legacy bunkerish setups have a big advantage due to the mid point being so big and easy to keep neutral and the ways between the points and the spawn being so short that it’s very easy to reinforce points and hold them (neutral) even when you’re outnumbered. Last ESL weekly where I played as a sub in 55hp monks against cheese mode was a prime example of that (two very clear wins on forrest and khylo, got stomped on legacy).

That being said the majority seems to be convinced that skyhammer shouldn’t be in soloq. It’s such an easy change to make that would make a lot of people happy or at least less angry so I don’t really see why they aren’t doing that.

While I personally think that a lot of people exaggerate a lot when talking about this map I would be fine with it getting removed since the majority of the community seems to hate it and ANet listening to the community would be a good sign.

Balthazar is pretty meh on everything that is not actually full condi, if you want to drop traveler you should take dps runes like flame legion or strength.

Amplified wrath is ok for carrion or celestial hybrid, which is more of a trollish 1v1 build, on zerker it’s not really worth it.

Again, 6/2/6/0/0 or 6/1/6/1/0 is an okish 1v1 spec on carrion or celestial (with balthazar runes and defenders flame).

Yes dps multipliers like flame legion and fiery wrath stack.

On a sidenote your sigils are pretty random, the traitsplit is not really optimal and purity is not even close to being worth it over meditation cooldown reduction.

I havent played in a few months but as far as i read in the patch notes the only ele buffs were to SoR and cleansing water (which were just a revert of a nerf), and some small buffs to d/d eles like to burning speed, all of which have nothing to do with staff eles except cleansign water making bunker eles more supportive.

Has anything else really changed that i missed or is this just a big troll post.

They buffed celestial amulet and strength runes which every d/d ele is using. If you’re not actually playing you should probably not comment.

This thread is about the profession, not the amulets and runes which benefit all professions. If you can’t seperate those matters you probably shouldn’t comment.

The title of the thread states that the profession is the focus, not objects you equip your character with.

… OP could be trolling, but it’s more likely deep frustration because he can’t swat elementalists easily with a necromancer anymore. He tends to go on big nerf rants easily. Sometimes justified, other times not. This is just blatant whining though.

That’s the point… elementalist is benefitting from celestial way more than most if not all other classes. If you’re looking at why ele is so strong all of the sudden you can’t ignore that they buffed celestial and that pretty much every ele is using it.

He asked if anything else changed about ele and I explained it to him, I don’t know what your problem is with that.

I do appreciate your input but I feel that through my shouts and support build (trooper runes) am more needed in a group where rest are DPS while I boon them and remove their conditions. However, I do have CoF zerk armor and I will do a Fotm run just to see which one feels better. Thank you all.

What’s the point of asking on the forums if you ignore that pretty much everybody told you to go zerker and use PvT anyways? Meh.. in the end you can play how you want but I feel bad for the fractal groups that get you.

As somebody else already pointed out, you don’t need to slot shouts to cleanse condis and give protection, you don’t need PvT to be support. In fact the hammer dps spec that people linked here has more support even if you don’t look at dps since it has more efficient condi cleanses and better protection uptime.

Some classes can still beat them 1v1 and in teamfights they are not as tanky as they looks like in 1v1s since their armor and hp aren’t THAT and most of their tankyness comes from all the heals, the healing signet, regen and protection. If they get focused and bursted in the right moment they still die rather fast.

If anything is wrong with ele it’s that you can have a decent enough ammount of power to make lighting whip and burning speed dangerous and have burning ticking for 500/s at the same time. They should just revert the buff to celestial imo. They will probably won’t do that though since they don’t like admitting mistakes and ele (too an extent ranger) being the only class which can really abuse it since they make use of every single stat so it doesn’t look like it would be too overpowered.

Meh… shield 4 should give aegis and protection and you should be able to use use shield 5 while rezzing. It’s pretty funny how resolute healer (honor V) that procs shield of absorbtion on rez is more useful than the actual skill itself. Then it will actually be worth it to think about taking shield over focus.
I don’t really get why you would want something offensive for the most defensive weapon on the most defensive class (class designwise). Don’t really think it would be fitting tbh.

Mace 3 should work like the blocks from warrior mainhand mace and offhand sword. I don’t really see why one range attack is already breaking it while the warrior blocks keep blocking until they block a melee attack or run out.

And meh… I like noscoping staff 2 on bunker guard. :<

I agree on most other stuff.

EDIT: Just read that part about you having 3 level 80 guardians… welcome to the club I guess.

GS + Sword/Focus is most damage which is like the most important thing in PvE.

Hammer is more utility (perma protection) but still pretty good damage.

Scepter is the strongest (kind of only) range weapon you have.

Mace, Shield and Torch have very nieche uses and aren’t that useful in most PvE situations.

Staff is more of an utility weapon, good for everything where you only need to tag stuff or to kite and you don’t actually need damage.

With that said you should carry at least one of every weapon with you for all the different situations in PvE but GS + Sword/Focus are probably the most important ones.

Battle sigils usually are worse than stuff like air, blood, leeching or similar stuff because you’re usually not gonna be in fights for long enough to actually stack a decent ammount of might. You get perma might for the 5% dps boost from might on block, might on hit from the rune and from f1 anyways.

The adept trait is kind of a filler anyways but I prefer UC for 20% boosted Binding Blade+JI or WW after pull. Guess it doesn’t matter that much.

Also having both, sword and greatsword usually just works in the way that you swap weapons when your target is out of range and your gapcloser is on cooldown. They do more or less the same. Scepter actually synergizes with greatsword (imob → swap → JI+WW / imob → swap → leap+smite condi) and you have a somewhat ranged weapon (you won’t really hit smth on max range tho) which means you can’t get kited that easily and you can actually kite stuff like warriors.

While you should run strength runes in pvp, in wvw i would recommend using traveler if you don’t want to take ages to get across the map, the dps loss doesn’t hurt that much because you have more stats in wvw and you actually have a chance to get out of fights you don’t want to take or zergs.

Well I guess you don’t want to hear that a lot of minor stuff in these builds isn’t optimal at all.

If it’s just between those two you should stick to the one with 4 points in virtues. It has a lot more utiltiy that you will miss if you take the other one, which only has more damage. The only good thing about radiance is that you can kill NPCs and bad players faster. In actual fights or teamplay virtues will usually help you a lot more.

This has been suggested multiple times in the past, yet we still have the same lack of escape mechanics that we have had since launch. It won’t ever change, since we are the “get in but don’t get out” class as anet has described us. Honestly after the last class run down they gave, I really do not think they see us as anything more than support either, considering that was ALL that they talked about in regards to guardian (being front line support)

Personally, I don’t even get too involved with team fights anymore for that reason. Unless I can pick off that random mes or thief that is on the outside of the point trying to get some health back, it just is not worth it to dive into a team fight unless you have every single CD up, and you HAVE to be out of that fight when they are gone. Otherwise, you are a lame duck waiting to be slaughtered.

Well the point is not making Merciful Intervention better at what it is (which would still be super situational and usually useless). The point is giving DPS guard a tool to disengage.

If the devs don’t want that because it would be against the class design or the design of the skill… I guess I would have to accept that. At least getting a statement on that would be nice but oh well.

You know what’s even better about being medi in spvp? your counter is the person just walking away from you because we have zero soft cc in that build.

You have JI, Binding Blade (combo it with JI to actually hit it), Leap of Faith, the imob from scepter and you have somewhat ranged damage from scepter (although you’re not really hitting decent players from max range since simply spamming q and e will let them avoid it). Also your teammates can cc stuff for you; when me and the hambow from my team time our cc we can 100-0 people in seconds.

Being somewhat easy to kite or at least easier than mesmer and thief (>implying it would be possible to kite a thief) definetly is a problem for offensive guardian, don’t get me wrong, but considering that you can basicly kill people with 2 autoattack chains (+sigil procs) that should probably stay as it is.

In case you don’t know me I’m Bullet Punch, mained Meditation Guard since forever, didn’t drop out of top 50 in TeamQ since the ladder reset (EU).

Having played DPS Guard in thousands of tournament games I have to say that it is pretty much lacking one thing which keeps them in this somewhat-but-not-really-viable-spot.

You can’t disengage. As soon as you enter a fight, no matter if it’s 1v1 or a teamfight, you either win the fight or you die. If you don’t have a target far away that you can port to with JI every class will be able to chase and kill you if you try to disengage.

The ability to disengage is one of the most important things for a zerker in a gamemode that has long and big fights you can’t survive if you are in it for too long. Often I can decide between trying to run and die 5 seconds later offpoint or just die onpoint, hoping to get a rez. Even if I my team gets the rez off, usually I just die again because I still have no cooldowns up and without cooldowns DPS Guard is really squishy. In the same situation a Mesmer or a Thief could just port out/stealth, reset themselves and return, making them way more reliable and making it way more possible to turn a teamfight arround.

I don’t know if the devs even want offensive Guardian to be viable (class design and such blah blah) but if they want to, here is my solution: Merciful Intervention with ground targeting (like Blink, Lightning Flash and Shadowstep, you know?). All of the sudden DPS Guard would have decent mobility and a decent ability to disengage. You could also use it to port to oponents, making it another way to apply your damage.

With this change you would pretty much solve every problem DPS Guardian currenty has. You would have to take this over Contemplation of Purity which means that you would have less condi cleanse and no real stunbreaker besides JI (which you usually shouldn’t use to stunbreak) so i don’t think it would make Meditation Guard overpowerd.

EDIT: I’m talking about high level TeamQ. I hope that is clear.

Well as long as we’re talking about standard shatter mesmer without weakness on clone death or a lot of stealth and stuff your main defense mechanic is running/porting away and outranging stuff. You can’t run from a thief because he always has one port more than you have. Go figure.

Also shortbow autoattack bouncing on clones is… something.

You do realize that the nerf from 7% to 5% more damage is something arround a 28,5% nerf and you can’t even compare that to the 8% healing signet nerf?

Not to be rude or anything. But you’re on your soapbox preaching like you’re top guard world and honestly, I’ve never seen your name before now.

On to the matter at hand – SoR is situational. Simple as that. Remember around release when SoR was the meta heal? I sure do. Then the transition to shelter happened but a few still stuck with SoR for a bit longer. I mean, even now people run healing breeze recently so dont try to preach about shelter being the only viable choice.

Not to be rude or anything. But you’re on your soapbox preaching like you’re top guard world and honestly, I’ve never seen your name before now.

On to the matter at hand – SoR is situational. Simple as that. Remember around release when SoR was the meta heal? I sure do. Then the transition to shelter happened but a few still stuck with SoR for a bit longer. I mean, even now people run healing breeze recently so dont try to preach about shelter being the only viable choice.

So Shelter is objectively better now? Explain how it is better than SoR when you are loaded with stacks of conditions then. Do you prefer to try to hopelessly block those conditions or counter them with additional removal and/or 8k+ heal?

I prefer blocking Signet of Spite and other condi stuff instead of trying to outheal it. Guardian has so many good and reliable cleanses, don’t pretend like you would need that PASSIVE effect that cleanses ONE condition every 10 seconds so hard that you would drop Shelter for it.

The PvE meta can slot Purging Flames and Absolute Resolution, In PvP bunkers use Pure of Voice and Soldier Runes, Most WvW Guards use Pure of Voice and Trooper Runes, Meditation builds have Contemplation of Purity and they can go for Absolute Resolution.

Maybe you realize that almost all of these cleanse conditions from your whole party and all of them are active and reliable (so you actually cleanse WHAT and WHEN you need it).

You do realize that the first link you posted HAS SoR in as an option for your DPS heal.

  • Signet of Resolve – Use when you need a big heal and blocks aren’t important

And you do realize that he’s saying exactly what I am saying? That you should only use Signet of Resolve when there is nothing to block?

Shelter is a better heal as well since doing block rotations are better than trying to outheal damage. Signet is only better if you fight things that are unblockable like old tom, mai trin, and elemental source.

Apparently you do care, which is why you created a entire post about how people should listen to you because you know better. You are looking for disciples to lead to pvp greatness. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like anyone here is willing to follow you. I wonder why?

Could it be? COULD IT BE that every one has a different perspective and experiences other than your own. Most people like you don’t know how to deal with this reality. Since you need other people to agree with you and worship you in order for you to feel justified and important. The real reason why you need people to agree with you is because you are insecure.

It seems you are the one with the reading comprehension. Its obvious that you said shelter can get interrupt. But you failed to mention that when it does it goes on full cooldown without the user receiving the heal.

Okay I forgot to mention the full CD thingy in the original post, fair enough.

Apart from that… It’s not MY opinion that Shelter is the main heal for Guardians, it is actually pretty common knowledge.

SIGH… as expected a ton of i-play-how-i-want people that aren’t even ranked are trying to tell me that Signet of Resolve would actually be better, even in a PvP situation.

As stated by some smarty above, there are different situations in which one or the other heal could be better. For PvE encounter that might be somewhat valid because you can swap your heal before a boss if you know that there’s not really anything important to block (which is still the only situation where Signet of Resolve is actually better, PASSIVE condi cleanse every 10 seconds for PvE, are you serious?). For PvP or any PvPish situation it’s just wrong. There is no encounter where blocking would not be useful in some way. On top of that you can’t predict how such an encounter will actually play out so you just have to slot what is best in MOST situations which is Shelter (as explained in the original post).

I am well aware of the possibility of Shelter getting interupted (also stated original post but reading is too hard i guess) and going on full 30s CD but the scenarios in which Shelter gets interupted are very rare if you use it correctly; the only reliable ways to interupt it that can’t be avoided easily are traited Reaper’s Mark and Fear Me, both not really the most common used things. Signet of Resovle on the other hand can get interupted by Earthshaker, Backbreaker, Staggering Blow, traited Steal, Headshot, Diversion, Chaos Storm, every Fear and a bunch of other very common stuff that gets thrown arround in teamfights. There is not one Guardian in top PvP who uses Signet of Resolve.

Call me an elitist kitten, I actually don’t really care about how people play (i already have my group of people I play with and I don’t need to explain them why Shelter is better), if you really want that yellow thingy on your bar for some reason, use it but don’t pretend like it would be the best choice for anything but SOME PvE situations. And please don’t even bring Litany of Wrath or Healing Breeze up.

If you’re trying to question my PvP experience at least be on the leaderbords, okay? Thank you.

tl;dr: I don’t care if you use it or not, I don’t care if you agree or not, Shelter is still better (in MOST situations anyways).

This game has been out for almost 2 years and I still see way too many people running arround with Signet of Resolve. While it might be the best choice when you look at it as somebody who just started the game or is still learning because the tooltip says it would heal for more than Shelter, it is actually much worse in almost every PvP and WvW and in most PvE situations.

The only times Signet of Resolve is better than Shelter are if you don’t know how to use the block because you’re fighting something you don’t know or there is just nothing to block (unblockable attacks from bosses, debuffs).

Shelter is the better heal in most PvE situations, you can block some 1 shots from bosses, you can get it through without trashmobs killing you during the cast, it is pretty hard NOT to block 4k damage or more as a glasscannon.

This applies even more to PvP; blocking stuff like Earthshaker, Mind Wreck, Signet of Spite or other avoidable stuff with Shelter means avoiding a lot of damage, saving a dodge while keeping the point contested and healing up. On top of that thieves and mesmers could easily interupt Signet of Resolve since it has a really obvious animation and people can see the Signet being on your bar. Shelter can only get interupted by own mistakes (running into a Line of Warding or similar stuff) and some unblockable stuff (Fear Me, traited Reaper’s Mark or Basilisk Venom with Larcenous Strike). This applies to both, DPS and Bunker Guard.

tl;dr: Signet of Resolve makes you look stupid. Use Shelter. Thank you.

As you can see from the screenshots it is clearly daytime on this map, you can even see the sun shining but weapons that change appearance depending on the day/nighttime still take the form they would have during the night.

This makes my legendary look less cool when I’m playing on the 1v1-server. This is obviously gamebreaking and relevant. Fix pls.
