If you just want to tryhard counterbuild in 1v1 just go condi guard. Wait for healing turret which is pretty much their only cleanse, press 3 buttons and you won.

At least that’s how I killed the engis I was up against in the last ESL 1v1 cup and it worked out. I got 100g out of it so hey.

If you don’t want to counterbuild and win with a normal meditation spec there are a few things you can probably do better.

The scepter imob is pretty stronk against them but they have a bunch of things they can do against it. You should try imobing them when their transmute trait, their toolkit block and their healing turret are on cooldown. You can make sure that your imob won’t get transmuted by using it together with active virtue of justice since it will always immune burning and your imob will hit.

Since they have a bunch of blocks, knockbacks and most of them run protection on cc bursting them usually doesn’t work out to well. The thing engis hate the most from meditation guard is smite condi and greatsword/sword autoattack. Instantly pulling after hitting binding blade is usually worse than waiting a bit with it, they might panic and insta use their elixir s. Also you have the potential to pull them out of whatever block they have up after you hit binding blade which means that they won’t try blocking as long as they have this debuff thingy.

The best time to use your cleanses is when you just got an incendary powder proc and geo/doom swap. After that they won’t rly apply a lot of condis unless you tank stuff you shouldn’t tank if you would play well. Also making sure that focus 4 hits so it will cleanse you can be pretty good. You can do that by imobing them first or precasting it and porting with JI which is only worth if you REALLY need a cleanse though since JI is kind of your most important cooldown.

Med guard might be pretty forgiving in a bunch of 1v1 matchups, especially against squishy stuff but in actual games it’s not really low risk imo. As soon as you used your defensive stuff that is on pretty big cooldowns you’re really freekill in teamfights and while you dont have to be quite as careful as a teef because you have a bunch of instant heals and more stuff you can pop while attacking you still run at the risk of exploding on retal and random aoe stuff.

I don’t know, invis pulling the creatures away from the attacking group (like with engineer magnet) and then crow bar smashing the creature to death has led to a number of clutch turnarounds in games I’ve been in. If you time it right you can make things go in your favor like 80-90% of the time which is much better than a coin flip.

I second that. The other option is sending a thief with the mug trait. It does the exact same amount of damage every time it hits. Or a Mind Wrack. Or a well timed fear. Well, there is actually a lot of methods to make sure you kill the beast.

Well you can maybe put odds in your favor by saving a burst for the end but there is still no way of “making sure” you will get it, especially not when multiple people from each team go for the beast because it is game deciding which is kind of the only situation in higher level play in which people ever go for them anyways.

I believe that that map would be more fun without the 2 bosses. Not hard to make a map with just the 3 points and not special annoying mechanic.

The svanir/chieftain mechanic is probably the most boring secondary mechanic seing how they barely come into play outside of really close matches and when both teams go for a beast it pretty much becomes a coinflip. You can always get unlucky, not crit a backstab or something and some random burn tick from the oposing bunker guard finishes it off and the other team gets the kill. I even had it once that the parrot from pirate runes stole svanir even though the ranger who summoned it wasn’t even close to it.

Completly removing it would be meh because every map has a secondary mechanic. The best secondary mechanic imo are the buffs on temple since they are the only secondary mechanic that causes actual fights, 1v1s, 2v2s and not some random PvEsports stuff like pretty much all the other mechanics.

They could change the secondary mechanic on forrest. After you get the last hit on one of the beasts there is a thingy you need to communicate for like one or two seconds and it disappears after like 30 seconds and people from the other team can interupt your channeling. Since it’s barely worth it to go for the beasts now and this would make it even less worth you obv would need to raise the points you get from that quite a bit. Just a random idea I got while typing this. :<

The spirit shield is pretty good in some dungeons. In combination with traited wall of reflection you can basicly keep up the projectile reflection/absorbtion up for 44 seconds.

And the spirit bow is op cuz it has the most beautiful animation in this game.

Apart from that they are pretty useless but I’m not a fan of AI-builds anyways so whatever.

Well… that’s kind of the point of running mace… You have one block more. And if you block smth big with it like earthshaker or a thief jumping you with basi venom that’s pretty huge. If you use it to block one arrow of rapid fire that’s bad but that doesn’t mean mace is bad.

Also it’s a one handed weapon so you can use focus with it which gives you a lot more defense and utility (stoming with shield of wrath) so you can’t just say hammer would be better in any situation.

Apart from that you can get 250 healing power from a trait when running mace which isn’t irrelevant when we’re talking about a bunker build with clerics.

It’s nice to use in dungeons in DPS rotations with GS in very short fights where you only need one burst or against bosses that reflect projectiles like the first boss in arah p2.

It’s also useful for the extra block here and there.

I suppose you’re talking about PvE judging from your post so I’m not even gonna bring up bunker guard in PvP.

I will say, however, is that my friend is using a 61601 condi/hybrid (or it’s equivilant) build of mine and it took her to the top 250 in the leaderboards (or what ever put her in Llama gift status)

it’s just so hard to see this build doing well. your friend has zero condi clearance. you can get to top 250 by just playing a lot.

I run 6/2/6/0/0 and have no trouble with basic condi removal. Condi build necros and engis are trouble, but then those are troublesome for any offensive guardian build.

Well no offense buf if you have problems with engis I won’t believe you that you’re doing halfway decent with this build. There is barely anything that counters condi engi harder than this hybrid/condi guard build.

Well in general I’m kind of disapointed in this thread, the same weird arguments that I’ve seen before, the same few hybrid-fanboys as in all the other threads.

You really think a build with barely any active damage excels in teamfights and is better than a build that has a ridicolous ammount of AoE burst? The fact that a big part of your damage comes from blocks and a passive skill makes it way worse in everything that is not 1v1, yet you claim the oposite and talk about “AoE burning”. You say that zerker burst is easily avoided and then claim that purging flames and blocks are a great reliable way of doing damage even though it’s obvious and easy to avoid as soon as you know that they are condi/hybrid.

And just a few offtopic things:

If you are using a condi mainstat amulet, a condi rune, half of your traits have burning in the tooltip and you’re using geo/doom I’m gonna call your build condi since that’s obviously the focus of your build and just because your autoattacks still do more than nothing doesn’t mean that you’re a “hybrid”

The meta is dd cele ele/cele rifle engi/teef/smth/smth. Turret engis are completly irrelevant, I don’t know why you keep mentioning them.

Also I don’t know why you keep saying that condi/hybrid guard would be better at defending a point or even compare it to bunker guard. Literally the only defense it has over zerker is that carrion has 3180 hp more than zerker.

So yeah… all in all there was nothing new in this thread, just the people who kept creating all these condi guard hype threads defending their standpoint. I’m gonna say it again: If you want to give your arguments any credibility play in one of the streamed tournaments, ESL, mistpedia or whatever and do well in them.

On a srs note: I agree. Going ranked with 5 people on TS and with a halfway srs comp just seems like an overkill, I don’t really see any motivation in playing as a team in this system since you rarely ever get actual matches and even if you do, you don’t really gain anything from it.

The old leaderbord was a lot better and that’s saying something. In the old system all the top teams were in the top 50 (exept 55hp since they duoq’d in teamq a lot) so it seems a lot more accurate than what we have now. I regognize like 3 names at best on the frontpage.

Saying purging flames would be better than traited f2 is pretty ridicolous. Traited f2 has 5 times the range, is instant and doesn’t take the utilityslot of your stunbreak. Apart from that you can reset the cooldown of your f2 by using your elite.

Also you didn’t get my point about 100-0ing people at all. I said zerker guard can make use of CCs from his team. You can burst people when your partner CCs or imobs people which is another plus point in group play.

Also pretty ironic that you say people who get 100-0’d would be “low lvl players” and then talk about 1v2ing people in the very next sentence.

You say your condi or hybrid guard would have more reliable damage even though you can avoid most of it just by saving cleanses for geo/doom swaps and not hitting into blocks. Good players will just stow weapon when you pop shield of wrath or shelter.

Lately I’ve seen way too many of these condi/hybrid guard forum posts that mainly consisted of another weird variation of the same hybrid build and weird video montages of mediocre players farming horrible players with said build.

I’ve seen a lot of people comparing zerker and hybrid guardians and using the weirdest arguments. People said condi guard could hold points better and survive longer than zerker while the only defensive thing that condi has over the standard builds are a bit more HP.

It has no vigor and even if you would trait for it you would barely get vigor procs with carrion. Your autoattacks hit for not very much so you have almost no counterpressure, as soon as your weaponswap is on cooldown people can basicly freecast on you and you’re forced to blow your defensive cooldowns really fast while zerker can put symbols or smite under him and stuff like thieves will get punished really hard for engaging without the guard even using defensive cooldowns.

Also hybrid guard doesn’t really have burst. It kills kind of slow and barely has any impact in teamfights. I saw a few people calling krait runes renewed focus a burst… Just no. You use your most important defensive cooldown to get ONE stack of bleeding, ONE stack of torment and poison on people. You really think that’s worth it and you really think you can call that a burst?

Also one of the things that lets you notice that you have a zerker guard on your team is insane cleave on downed bodies, especially from GS. The best thing condi guard can do is swapping weapons for poison and then do pretty weak autoattacks.

People also bring the argument that condi guard is better in some 1v1 matchups. This is the one thing that is true and that I have to agree with. However that’s barely relevant. You might be able to freekill mesmers and thieves with it but you have an an advantage against that anyways and you might have a slightly better matchup against celes dd ele but you still shouldn’t win against them if they are decent. The only really relevant one is engi because they go from being a hard matchup on zerker guard to being a freekill on condi guard. I got 1st place the last ESL 1v1 cup by 1 shotting engis with condi guard a bunch of times so I should know.

Apart from that zerker is almost always better than condi guard as soon as your 1v1 get’s +1’d and becomes a 2v2 which happens a lot when people call that they are losing their 1v1 against you. Zerker actually has some kind of cc with gs or hammer that your teammate can make use of, your teammate ccing targets does not really doanything for condi guard since you hit your passive burning stuff and instant weaponsswaps anyways while it can mean being able to 100-0 targets for zerker guard which I’ve done a lot in 2v2s together with hambows or rifle engis. Also condi guard neither has a safe stomp nor good cleave on downed bodies which makes it more likely that people can rez against you. Also zerker can support their teammate better since they can afford going into virtues and get the cleanse on f2 or even stability on f3.

In actual 5v5 games condi guard is also pretty much outclassed by condi engi because they both bring burning and geo/doom swaps but engi also brings cc, more defense, utility like stealth, more mobility and better support cuz healing turret op.

tl;dr: Literally the only thing condi guard does better than zerker is killing engis.

Feel free to disagree, feel free to prove me wrong by playing condi guard in any ESL 5v5 tournament and doing well with it. I hope that we can get an actual discussion going and not just people repeating the same stuff they already said in the forum posts I mentioned (dat krait runes burst tho).

Bunker guards. They are pretty much worthless in uncoordinated games. You win the first teamfight because of them and after that they either run arround, get into 1v1s and 2v2s that they can stalemate at best or they afk camp mid after they capped it.

Not saying that bunker guard is bad but it’s useless in many situations and when you play with pugs without ts or anything getting them in the situations where they are useful is pretty much impossible.

The only actual counterplay if you don’t wanna go 4 celestial yourself from my experience is having stuff that is really strong in teamfights like hambow and bunker guard and never go for three points ever. In bigger teamfights even dd eles tends to die somewhat fast and in 4v4s dedicated supporter specs are not outclassed by celestial imo.

Question to people that hate the Cele bruiser meta. Why? Can anyone please articulate their thoughts on the toxicity of Cele bruisers for the enjoyment of the game.

I feel that it is simply because people want to play whatever they’re used to playing regardless of what has more winning potential.

A few people may say Cele builds are too easy, to them I say: the builds are still complex as far as builds go in GW2. Do you know what is not complex? Mashing one button for 20 seconds in your elite form. Running around on a Revive Warrior mashing the ‘interact’ button on everything he can.

Occasionally on the forums someone says that Celestial builds make it so your mechanical skill is less of a factor. To them, I say the ceiling on Celestial builds for mechanical skill is plenty high. There’s a huge difference between Cele Engineers who have lethal damage combos and who don’t. Huge differences between Cele Eles who have their might stacking and cleansing/healing priorities right, and who don’t. There’s an endless list of things you have to improve on when you have a Cele playstyle, because the time to kill on your enemies means you need to play as flawlessly as possible for extended periods rather than win or lose based on the jackpot crit gank.

I’ve always had a big interest in power bruiser builds in MMOs/MOBAs that fall between assassins and tanks, and I’m definitely not alone.

So whats your guys’ gripe with the backbone of the meta comp being Cele Ele and Cele War instead of a Clerics Guard and a Soldier’s War from the last Metas

Well for starters cele dd engi and cele rifle engi are ridicolously good at smaller fights, 1v1s, 2v2s and stuff. This forces everybody who doesn’t run with 4 celes like the old usual bunker guard comps to go for nothing but 4v4 teamfights since you will start losing the game the moment you go for fights on three points because unlike celes builds, builds that are very dedicated to a certain role like bunker guard are almost useless in some sitations that result out of that.

We already had the situation that it was considered mandatory to have one, or better two hambows on your team and most people agreed that there was something wrong with it so it got nerfed eventually. Now it’s pretty much the same with eles. The fact that it is viable or sometimes even optimal to stack classes and run multiple eles pushes other classes out of the meta since there are only 5 slots in a team. Pretty obvious that people who play guardian or smth will get kittened about that.

Sure, a part of it is that people don’t like to adjust their playstyle (TCG still tries to go for three points with a bunker guard ._.), reroll builds and classes and stuff and generally dislike change if they didn’t ask for it but saying that’s the only reason people hate on celestial is a bit ignorant. You can’t tell me that there’s nothing wrong with celestial ele.

Well the problem with this trait atm is that it’s kinda uncontrolable due to the passive virtue of justice triggering it and that it just removes the last applied boon without priority on anything.

A simple change that would make this trait good would be removing 2 boons on targets arround you when you use virtue of justice with priority on something relevant like stability, might or protection.

This would be a bit too strong for a adept trait though and seing how boon remove on shatter and boon remove on steal are in master slots it should probably be a master trait if they would buff it.

Assuming you spam all your meditations and shelter on cooldown for healing (which is obviously far from optimal usage of your skills) you would end up with 500-550 healing per second depending on your traits which is about as much as a standard warrior with Healing Signet, Adrenal Health and Dogged March.

I don’t really think that this is too much “sustain” seing how even thieves have decent healing with Withdraw, Mug on 21s cooldown and Pain Response.

I still kinda agree on that “little effort” thingy. Air/Fire sigils and strong autoattacks make it really easy to do somewhat ok on med guard even if you don’t hit anything else and the ammount of healing you can get at once make it really forgiving in some 1v1 matchups.

I would like to see Air/Fire getting nerfed in some way, the best thing would just be to revert the sigil changes so Air and Fire share cooldowns again and put Air sigil on 5s cooldown again. Also I would like to see JI and Smite Condi not heal if you don’t hit anything with it. Also I think that Renewed Focus being a meditation was a really unnneccesary change and I wouldn’t mind if that would get reverted as well.

They really kinda buffed and overbuffed med guard in the wrong direction making it really forgiving in many duels but didn’t really give it something to make it more viable in actual games. So yeah as a med guard main I agree that some nerfs would be justified but I also think it still needs buffs in other aspects.

EDIT: Standard offensive guardians have a total of 6s protection on 75s cooldown, retaliation is very situational and usually not all that gamechanging and the “strongest boon” is still stability. So uhh.. yeah… you don’t really have a point in that regard.

I’m confused – why do you need more than one? I get it if you made a sylvari (cough) and re-rolled to the true guardian race – Asuran … but, yeah….

WHY?

One human for med guard, one for bunker guard, the asura for everything that isn’t PvP and the charr because I had too many tomes of knowledge left.

Also it’s nice to switch between characters with different skins and stuff for a change when you play one class a lot. :<

I got my 4th guard to 80 the other day which made me wonder if there are people who have more than me. I mean I pretty much know that there are. I just want to see some pretty screenshots and I’m bored. :<

Can you post your armors? Nice mix and match

This was almost 4 weeks ago.

Me and many others are waiting for gemprizes from the past months tournaments, some for more than 10k gems and this time arround the waiting time is even longer than usual. As far as I know Grouch is the one guy who has to deal with this stuff. I’m not blaming Grouch for taking that long since I know he was in China for some time blablabla.

What I don’t understand is why there is nobody that is doing this gemcode stuff when it’s obvious that Grouch has other things to do. Why do we, the players that actually win tournaments, have to wait for our gems longer than some random guy that wins a giveaway in the streamchat?

You think you won’t be high on the leader boards?

Nope, probably won’t break top 100 because I refuse to pub stomp my way to the top. My playstyle is to team queue when other teams are playing, for quality matches and to not annoy people who aren’t expecting to face an Abjured pug. I might play 25-30 games a week.

That bothers you doesn’t it

What would you suggest? I can queue up and stomp you and other unsuspecting, average players for 20 hours a week if you’d prefer. I’d definitely be top rated!

The bragging will start about how good they are on the ladder when they just played a lot of games. You should just delete it and restart updating the old leaderboard. Just fix the decay . Don’t allow people to afk for months and then get rank 1 on the ladder.

And so many of us solo Q in ranked which gives premades a free win. At least in team Q there was way less solo Q’ers. Most people have an inflated win rate atm if they only played with premade.

Its not even about player skill its literally farming people at a disadvantage.

So winning 10-15 games straight and placing top ranked (old system) is more fair than actually having to grind to see your effective skill level? No more teams that play once a week at low peek times on the weekday against baddies… You’re practically forced to play more games against high rated teams to earn your max 5 points per game.

A person with a higher average of points earned per game Should be ranked higher, than a person with a lower average rank points earned per game. How is this not more fair?

All the games I play are at PRIME TIME, playing the highest MMR players available…. should I really be punished LOL… Im playing roughly 15 games a week now… all at prime time, 500-0ing every single one….

Someone who Qs 100 times a week and wins half their games SHOULD NOT BE HIGHER OR EVEN CLOSE to my MMR or my leaderboard rank…

You make it sould like I am Q dodging and scared to play good players…. I am team quing with the most competitive teams in the game… SURE I would love to play a similarly skilled team… Fact is: there are none.. Why should I then get punished for not having a worthy adversary??

There will prolly be 0 competition in teamq now. I really don’t see a reason why I shouldn’t rather spend the one our two hours when everybody from my team is online with duels or scrims instead facing bad or mediocre players in teamq and not get any practice or good matches out of it.

This leaderbord change might be cool for people who solo or duoq but it’s terrible for actual teams.

If anyone top player would take the leaderboard serious it would be a huge +1 point farm and you´d have to play as much as possible in the current system.

Unfortunately I don´t see any reward that would encourage us to play in this ladder system.

It is true that the old leaderboard was probably more representative for player skill since it wasn´t based on farming.

Have to agree with you. I don’t have the motivation to farm baddies 24/7 until I can get decent matches again. Guess teamq will be even more dead than it was before.

I have 26 wins 0 losses even though I know I lost one game. Also this system seems to reward you for just playing a lot and it’s not all that relevant if you win or lose judging from the people that are on top of the leaderbords right now.

If that’s the case the new leaderbords are terrible and way worse than the old ones. Sigh…

All teams on this list confirmed that they could play in the finals.

Special Snowflakes disbanded. There might be a pug that will use that name to play this week but the team doesn’t exist anymore. Team Something currently only has 4 players. No clue who confirmed that these teams are gonna play but I certainly didn’t.

I have confirmed shattered aegis and pure of heart, but I do not think unscathed contender affects teammates otherwise retreat + virtue of courage + RF would be better than Timewarp.

Unscathed Contender SHOULD affect teammates. No reason it shouldn’t.

“Aegis you apply increases damage dealt by 20%.”

20% more damage for the whole party as an adept trait? lolwat
