It is basically impossible to get any decent matches in either of them anymore. Back in the day, you knew not to queue in the middle of the night or during the mornings, but now it’s like it doesn’t matter what time of day it is, it is dead.

Since feature patch the chains from weaponskins like Greatsaw or The Crossing are white when you look at them from specific angles as if they would reflect light way stronger than they should. I can’t really explain it too well so I attached a bunch of screenshots.

I’m pretty sure that it’s a game issue and not just me because I saw others having this problem as well and I usually don’t have it when I log in, it just appears after the first character switch or map change.

Fear and massive condi is OP atm. It’s slowly becoming the best 1 v 1 spec atm if played correctly. The survivability is huge, and just slightly countered by the mesmer thief combo.

Though I don’t necessarily agree that a spec with alot of blinds and blocks is necessarily strong against one with good single condition mitigation and a strong unblockable attack. I can see how a medi guard would be strong against D/P, but not S/D.

True, or at least it used to be, without being able to precast larcenous anymore we have no real counter the amount of aegis guardians have. previously we could precast flanking and attempt to get close for larcenous to take the aegis which could be blinded or evaded, but this at least gave us a chance at getting the upper hand on the opener against the medi guard but now we are left to sit there and attempt to proc it with a dancing dagger (very easily dodged) or move in close and take heavy burst damage while trying to auto it away ( easily blinded ). and regarding shelter, well as i said before unless we can land a flanking within 4 seconds of when they use their heal, might as well just give up trying to interrupt that with a basilisk larcenous. If any of you reading this have attempted to fight a competent medi guard on s/d post patch I’m sure you’ve seen first hand how a weapon set that used to be good for dealing with them is now hard countered by them.

You can still use steal, it steals aegis before it hits. I didn’t play too much after patch but from the duels I had with s/d thieves so far I have to say that they are pretty much freekill for dps guard now if the thief doesn’t hit like every 4s daze thingy.

2 second daze actually, but yea- I’ve found I need to incorporate a lot more CnD -> daze into your playstyle to be effective on S/D. also I rather pop aegis with dancing dagger or SB so I can be guaranteed to steal his kitten retaliation, thats what really kills me every time. Idk tho I get wrecked by med guards, our natural counter

But eh… you can’t really say that thief is getting hard countered by anything since they can disengage 24/7 and pick their matchups. If a thief isn’t stupid he’s not gonna engage me when I have my cooldowns up.

For some reason it’s possible to use Ellen Kiel Representation Buttons but you can’t use Evon Gnashblade Representation Buttons on PvP maps. There is clearly a conspiracy behind this. We need a hotfix for that. Also the election of Ellen Kiel for I-forgot-what-it-was is clearly not legit since this could have affected the choice of some people.

If you don’t believe me test it yourselves. The buttons are only like 4g and you can sell them again.

People should stop bringing up the argument that every class could use Nightmare Runes. Other classes don’t have Terror and Terror Master which makes the fear-proc way stronger than on any other class apart from condi war with Distracting Strikes maybe.

Apart from that necro is far from being op. The passive fear-procs that people keep bringing up are gimmicks at best.

When I’m playing against these kind of necros the Nightmare Rune usually procs on the first Smite hit or something fearing me out of the necromancers range meaning that it’s just arround 2k free damage on 90s cooldown if I don’t just cleanse it with smite condi.

Reapers Protection doesn’t have the biggest range, I can usually pull them from max range and I’m not getting feared or I just insta cleanse/stunbreak it and burst them anyways.

Both of these procs are just one trick ponies on huge cooldowns that aren’t even doing that much most of the times. The only class I really see getting wrecked by these procs is thief, now that everybody is playing trickery steal which procs reapers prot and they don’t use much cleanse anymore. Most decent builds have tools to deal with these kind of necros tbh.

While duels are not entirely rock-paper-scissors the matchup plays a pretty big role in them. Also there was only like one guy which name I heard before (which might not mean too much considering I’m from EU) and almost everybody played weird builds or at least weird variations of builds.

I don’t think winning such a tournament means much if you would want to determine something like the best duelist.

EDIT: I only watched parts of it but from what I saw he tanked like every second eviscerate. :<

I’m sorry but these arnt “the best” players by a long shot. Mediocre at best, random dodges, misuse of skills, easily getting hit by earth shaker. Both running mediocre builds, the guard could have run any number of changes to his build and beat the warrior. Too much break time between bursts, the guard could have won a couple times by supplying continual pressure but instead allows the war to stall gaining health back through heal sig.
Then summed it all up with: “why doesn’t your health drop?”
“Wvw build, mad regen.” Seriously? It’s healing sig and adrenal health with 4-6 deep in defenses just like any other warrior runs in this game.
Sorry there’s nothing to judge here and with the upcoming adrenalin nerf it will be even easier to kill warriors, trust me.

They are not all that great. The leeching thingy is a bit less than 1k, your heal has 30s cooldown and the on-hit-effect has 25s cooldown. That’s not even 80 heal/second even when you assume they proc on cooldown and you always hit it. Also the mistform thingy will kill you more than it will help you. Interupting your Shelter by becoming mist is not really something you want.

Also it’s really easy to keep up perma might with the combination of might on block, might on f1 and might on gs auto. Rune of Strength will be better than Ogre of Flame Legion in most situations.

Would make a lot of pve guards really happy if the passive would be precision.

I don’t like passive stuff, I don’t like this yellow signet between all my blue skills and I don’t play too much pve though so I don’t really care.

And it wouldn’t really benefit the signet if condi guard would actually be good. In pve condi builds are pretty much worthless for the most part and in pvp and wvw you don’t take signets for passive effects, of course excluding warriors and eles healing signets. And even if it would have a good active effect… most not-pve-builds heavily trait in one type of utilities, usually shouts or meditations so even if it would be decent it would probably still not have a place in good builds.

It is a pretty useless utilty and unless they don’t change something about every signet and probably even signet traits that’s not gonna change.

Most of the stuff you said was more or less accurate although it’s really noticeable that you don’t play pvp a lot. Resolute healer is amazing there, pretty much guarantees rezzes if the guy who’s stomping didn’t pop stability before you started to rez.

Might on block is actually kind of good with meditation builds when you use strength runes since you pretty much have perma might without even trying. Also shelter can do wonders in teamfights with it, sometimes even giving you 25 stacks depending on the classes on the other side.

Every “on block” effect works with aegis btw, applies to burning on block aswell.

Good post overall though, I especially agree with removing the cooldown from might on crit thingy in honor and changing 10% more dmg when you don’t have full endurance to 10% when you have full endurance. Would make honor a super good traitline to carry pugs or to solo dungeons.

In regards to the finals brackets, Team Mist won the first Tournament of Legends. It would take significant proof to unseat them as 1st seed, and I can’t say that we’ve seen that. However, the point of brackets is not to screw over one team or another. Cheese Mode does not dispute that they deserve a seed higher than 4th.

After that logic shouldn’t 55HP Monks be 2nd seed since they got 2nd in TOL and won the majority of the ESL matches against CM since then or at least against the pug that used the name CM? Seems legit.

There are only a few gamechanging hits like Pin Down for example that make saving it and even fakecasting worth it. For most offensive cooldowns applies the faster you use them the faster you have them back up again though. Using mind wreck twice in 15 seconds and risking one missing is usually better than waiting 10 seconds for the perfect moment.

Kinda sad but that’s just how it is when you have no resources and one random dodge can ruin your whole most perfect burst. The only thing i could think of to change that without changing game mechanics would be to decrease endurance regen and increase cooldowns.

Wait… what’s the advantage, doesn’t the audience want the best 2 teams to meet in finals?

A tournament organizer should not have a team of their own in the tournament. They should also not change seeding for no apparent reason other than to give their own team a free ride into the finals.

Ah I didn’t realize it was their own team. But still, how is it a free ride? Does everyone assume the only real competition here is between CM & TM?

I don’t even know who is in Enhanced Gaming apart from Xerrex, they are not gonna lose to them. Since we (I Love Lunch) play with DPS guard and necro and Team Exaltation usually has weird comps without thief and/or ele aswell I doubt that TM is gonna lose the semi finals. Meanwhile 55hp Monks and CM will probably play against each other in the other semi final.

It’s highly unlikely that TM doesn’t get into the finals.

In WvW, the guardian’s low hp is partially mitigated due to the existence of guard stacks. Yes, everyone can get them, but because it’s a flat boost it benefits classes with low health a lot more.

Also, people have been threatening (across the boards) to reroll to warrior for the longest time but you get the same people going “reroll a warrior” repeatedly without progress. I didn’t know leveling took so long. Remember legendaries are account bound so you can move them.

Not targeted at anyone specifically. But given all the warriors I’ve seen as of late that get 1 pushed by my engie, I guess people really have been rerolling warrior— and it hasn’t helped them much. :p

Well most of these guys want the stuff warrior has for guards… cripple, movement speed, more movement skills, bigger hp pool. Going warrior seems more logical than keeping to play guard and keeping to complain. Let them reroll, I won’t miss them.

I prefer active defenses and active support even on zerker specs over being a facetank hp bag which only support is ccing stuff, killing something before it kills their teammates and sometimes a warbanner.

Pokemon is more esports than gw2 will ever be and rng and matchup are a big part of it. You might not like rock-paper-scissors stuff but in a teamgame it is a pretty legit concept tbh.

I wouldn’t say RNG is a big part of Pokemon. It definitely plays a part, but in most competitive matches it isn’t that big of an issue and usually mitigated by prediction. Unless of course speed ties, in which case it can be kind of annoying.

6,25% chance to crit, 30% chance to flinch, 25% chance to get fully paralyzed, 10% chance to miss; that are all common rolls that play a role in pretty much every match. Of course you can play arround it, the people who win usually are the better players. But RNG is a big part in pretty much every game. Damage rolls, crits and 50% chances to proc something exist in gw2 aswell.

But well… this post neither is about RNG nor about pokemon so I’m just gonna shut up now. :<

Meh… the only things where traveler is useful is open world stuff and wvw roaming anyways, in dungeons and wvw zerging you want other stuff and you usually have perma swiftness anyways and pvp maps are pretty small.

Sure it helps out of combat for moving around the map in PvP, but it shines in combat.

It doesn’t, it hurts your damage pretty badly. With strength runes you might get kited more easily but the things you’re good for, burst and cleave on downstate bodies, is just so much weaker with traveler. And it’s not like you would be unkiteable with traveler.

They are good for running arround and you actually can disengage if you decide on it early enough and there’s no s/d thief chasing. Sometimes they are good for sticking to targets and actually hit gs autos but people with perma switftness like engis or a lot of ports like mesmer and thieves will still be able to kite you.

I did a lot of duels against the warrior from my team who is one of the best warriors in the game, on strength I’m winning a majority of the duels, with traveler I’m losing almost all of them. Traveler is terrible for stuff where your damage actually matters.

It’s good in longer fights, I used it in some ESL 2v2 weeklies because it lets you somewhat disengage with the leap and you can reposition and resustain yourself when you’re in a bad position but that’s about it.

Pretty much every movement skill has issues sometimes when you use them on a moving target. Bull’s charge randomly not reaching your target even though you’re in range. Rush getting you stuck in that awkward stance between the rush and the actual hit for more than a second. Well and then there is illusionary leap… don’t think I have to say more.

I would say leap of faith is one of the more reliable movement skills. The thing that is shown in the video usually only happens when you use it from close range on a moving target from my experience. It’s one of the drawbacks of the combat system gw2 has and I don’t even know if it’s possible to fix it without messing up something else since a lot of movement skills still hit unreliably even after quite a bunch of fixes and buffs. You should look up how often they tried to fix rush and bull’s charge.

JI+Binding Blade and the scepter imob both are pretty decent control skills.

DPS guard isn’t bad in duels, it’s in an advantage against pretty much every other zerker and also have a fair chance to 1v1 warrior. It just sucks against sustained stuff like celes d/d ele. Most specs you list there as impossible matchups are hardly relevant since they are not played on a decent level and I don’t really see how you would be at a disadvantage against a power necro. Mesmer vs guard is a pretty even matchup from my experience. Mesmer wins if they play perfectly but they only have to waste a single cooldown and they are dead when you take advantage of their mistake.

While I agree on scepter autoattack being rather meh since you can sidestep the projectiles if you’re not standing pretty close, smite is pretty good especially with on crit sigils like air, fire or blood you still have decent range damage if you place it into the path of people who are trying to avoid your autos. Also the imob is pretty much undodgeable and gives you a good possibility to gapclose. Of course you can’t stick to your target, that’s why you have to make the most out of the imob and JI and actually burst people.

I played DPS guard in top50 teamq for months now, it definetly has a niche, great at killing squishies, still supporting with condi cleanse, small heals and aegis even though you’re zerker, very good in 2v2, tons of aoe damage and decent burst if you set it up right; if you coordinate with your teammates sticking to targets shouldn’t be a problem, me and my hambow often wreck people in one combo as soon as one of us hits an imob.

The only things DPS guard is really bad at is fighting against sustained stuff and disengaging. The first one isn’t really a problem, it’s a bit rock-paper-scissors, you’re good against squishy stuff and bad against sustained stuff, that’s how it’s supposed to be. No spec in this game is good against everything. The disengaging is really a problem though, you can’t rotate out of bad matchups, you die if you try, you die if you stay.

This would be the solution imo, doubt that it’s gonna happen but I guess I can dream.

Other than that I think that DPS guard is in a decent spot though.

On a sidenote: If the meta would shift to more squishy comps it would be on the top of the foodchain already. If you want DPS guard to be stronger don’t ask for buffs, ask for ele nerfs.

Actually the reverse is better on paper, on paper you ignore reaction times, ping etc. meaning the ideal sigils would just be higher damage as if you play perfectly you’re going to be more effective.

That was my point. Rage sigil might get you more damage sometimes, your ww will hit like 2-3k more in the best scenario. Considering the cooldown and that it procs when you don’t want it often enough sigils like air and fire give you a lot more damage. 1-2k with 3s cd, 600-1,5k with 5s cd. Fire and leeching basicly are 2-3k free damage that procs pretty much every weaponswap.

Also like I said before ji+ww is a terrible combo, quickness or not you won’t hit decent players with it. Also it’s very possible to hit your leap and your autoattacks with gs if you use the scepter imob and the gs leap to gapclose and don’t try to hit ww on a moving target without ccing them.

Rage is not a terrible sigil, it’s fun and it certainly boosts your damage on bursts when you actually hit one while the quickness is up. The high cooldown and the fact that there are other sigils like fire/air that just deal damage on low cooldown makes it somewhat subpar especially in 1v1s and 2v2s where you often can’t burst on your first swap to gs because you know that your oponents still have defensive cooldowns up meaning you either have to camp scepter until there is a possibility to burst or waste the quickness proc. You can’t tell me that that’s an ideal sigil considering that 1v1s and 2v2s are the strength of dps guard.

[PvP] Why doesn't anybody run Rage on GS?

I used it after the patch, porting with binding blade, proccing rage and getting off full ww sounded strong on paper.

In reality that happens 1/10 times, it has a pretty huge cd so when it procs when you can’t burst yet and you just want to pressure with leap and autos and stuff (dueling warriors and they still have their stab/endure pain, just starting a teamfight or stuff like that) it won’t be up again when you want it and the best thing that can happen is that you quickness stomp somebody.

Also quickness shelter is not really something you want to happen ever.

Just using sigils that deal damage USUALLY give you more damage, running rage for the one time the quickness ww actually hits doesn’t really seem worth it, the cooldown is just too big (although i can obviously see why they wouldn’t want 9s cooldown quickness to be a thing).

I use leeching and fire now, leeching is a reliable hit with ji or after imob from scepter, 1k dmg, 1k heal, pretty nice with your low healthpool, nice spike plus for your burst after weaponswap and fire obviously reliable aoe dmg that actually hits the thing i want to hit and doesn’t get wasted on clones, spirits or smth when I want to burst something or just cleave on a downed body.

These are just way more reliable and considering the cooldown a way better damage plus.

EDIT: Stop using ji+whirling wrath, start using ji+binding blade and pull into ww. More reliable, actually hits decent players and way easier to pull people into the shield of wrath explosion than just to port with it and hope they didn’t see you and won’t dodge.

This is the best overall. Some builds can be better against certain stuff but this build is the best if you don’t want to change your builds between 1v1s.

Traveler is pretty pointless in 1v1s tbh, it’s nice to disengage but the damage difference is kinda big. Especially against warriors you really notice it.

You can see the signet on his bar even before he pops it and prepare for it, just dodge, blind or use elite instead of blocking, it’s not that hard.

Apart from that a warrior would have to drop a stance for that which would make him weaker overall.

So eh… really no big deal.

In my first duel with Rom after he got Kudzu I facetanked everything because I didn’t know he had it and I got distracted by all the flowers :<

On a serious note though, I agree. Skill animations shouldn’t get affected by your weapon skin. Seing how some legendaries can also be a disadvantage by making your animations more obvious I think that this is in everybody’s interest.

Sorry no, you heal, you wear plate, you are a paladin, you want to make it original then make it original and DIFFERENT, dont borrow the class troupes and expect to be ok to pull a 180 on it.

Why do you talk like we would want them to change the class design? Meditations already exist, Merciful Intervention already teleports you, it’s not like we’re asking for an overhaul of the class.

Bunker guard in soloq can be really frustrating when you get people that don’t know that bunker guard should be doing, let you afk on mid or just run off to teamfight without you. If you have decent people that somewhat know how to rotate and let you do your job you can carry games, especially teamfights even when your team doesn’t have the most mechanicly skilled players.

Also you can hold some 1v2s forever which can be kewl.

Apart from skyhammer where teamfights aren’t really a thing and really low MMR where people have no clue how to play with a bunker guard in your team it’s definetly really useful.

I agree with the guy above me.

Also I don’t think that many people understand… the reason why meditations are the thing you want on an offensive guardian isn’t that they heal. At least judges invervention and smite condition are pretty much mandatory if you want to get any actual burst off and not just hit a few autoattacks every now and then or spam scepter auto all day. I would take them even if monks focus wouldn’t exist.

If you absolutly don’t want to use meditations… signets are kind of decent, you’re even more squishy than with meditations, they are extremly easy to avoid, the possible surprise factor is destroyed by the signets passives showing in your bar. It’s pretty fun to kill terrible players with it tho. You can get a few gimmicky bursts off. The knockdown is kinda kewl.
