If you are buying sprockets for this you are definitely doing it wrong because the Watchwork Mechanisms are cheaper. I can get a stack a day if I try but at current prices it is not worth trying.

There is already a mechanism in place to mitigate flipping. Taxes and listing fee. The item also needs to have a decent balance of supply and demand.

Why so many items/currency in lvl 80 zones ?

I have stacks and stacks of champion bags.

One day, I popped a birthday gift to increase luck and starting to opening them. After about 3 hours in Divinity’s Reach, opening bags, selling and trading items, and checking out one ascended weapon chest, I only opened about 500 bags around 2 stacks with many stacks of champ bags remaining.

So I gave up

Luck doesn’t affect champ bags. It only affects drops, bandit chests in the Silverwastes and containers in PvP (and maybe a couple other things). You might as well open champ bags each day as you get them, unless you like stacking them up and opening them in large numbers.

Also bags from HoT map bonuses which happens to have the same icons as champ bags but their description will tell you if they are affected by MF.

Nope. Just your usual junk loot with a champ box that holds likely more junk loot.

The least Anet could do would be make the experience books an item that can be used in the future. These events are pretty much pointless if you’ve maxed out masteries.

The achievement gives a champ box? O_o

Actually I wouldn’t mind more champ boxes at the moment, need more Piles of Bloodstone Dust. :P

HoT PVE: Worth it?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Khisanth.2948

Getting away from the pvp/wvw scene since it just…. anyways. As for pve in HoT, I’ve looked at videos in the past and recent and just trying to get a general idea of what it has to offer. With that a few questions for those who hopefully know it best.

1. Is the pve in HoT something that is enjoyable? By this I mean is it something you can pick up for an hour or 2 after work or on a day off and not feel lost or bored?

Depends on the zone. Verdant Brink, Auric Basin(though this can be very slow if you are not running with a group), Tangled Depths are okay. Dragon’s Stand … well hopefully your work schedule matches its schedule.

2. Is it repetitive grinding to high ends or do things get shaken up a bit depending on what you are looking to do, such as building a legendary via the precursor quests?

Not really sure what you mean but the second collection of every legendary is pure grind for materials. Some of the other bits can be interesting if you try to make it interesting. There will also be plenty of time gated stuff if you don’t have a stockpile of ascended crafting materials.

3. I understand that some professions have an easier time than others in the new zones so I’m assuming there are some challenges. However, are these challenges based on enemy mechanics or just rapid scaling to where everything can “1 shot” you and has x10 health?

It mostly boils down to CC followed by burst or dumping all your CCs on something for the breakbar. Octovine in AB, Gerent in TD, the Blighting Towers and Mouth of Mordremoth fights have a bit more stuff. Nothing else comes to mind.

5. Similar to question 4 and 3, does HoT content demand specific builds in raids/world events or are they flexible based on player skill? Similar experience I’ve had in the past with fractals with people demanding build x only to watch them die over and over and ultimately giving 0 dps while they run back or get revived. I’d rather just know what I’m there for and run it on my terms, does HoT content demand something else?

Look forward to answers.

Yes and no. In HoT you want to have as many stunbreaks as well as your own CCs as possible and stability. You could do without going to extremes but I hope being a pinball from time to time. Personally I am not a fan of monsters design where the monster have only 2 attacks and at least 1 is a CC. There will also be times where you might know what needs to be done but if the other people around don’t care then it will just fail anyway because due to scaling you can dump every possible you can bring and still not do much to the CC bar.

When mining ore while in Auric Basin, you will gain Auric Slivers in addition to normal materials. You also have a chance to mine special items from ore nodes all around the Heart of Maguuma.

Once you get the slivers, unless you have an active collection that needs something else, I don’t believe anyone has gotten anything else.

Well you continue to get auric slivers …

How about the event: Rescue the villagers and defeat harpy kidnappers. It’s been bugged (and reported) since 2013. And then they made it a quest for the new legendary shortbow.

Not one, but TWO of the events needed for this journey, contain issues that get them “stuck”, and cannot progress.

“Escort the quaggan emissary to the kodan camp”, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Escort_the_quaggan_emissary_to_the_kodan_camp and

“Rescue the villagers and defeat harpy kidnappers”,
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rescue_the_villagers_and_defeat_harpy_kidnappers

If you look at the discussion pages for these quests, they have both been broken. Since 2013. 2013.

I’m at a loss to understand how it is that these bugs weren’t obvious, big blaring stoppers to launching this legendary journey – I mean, it’s not like they’re obscure? How do you create a legendary journey that involves not one, but two, two-year-old, progress-blocking bugs like that?

The quaggan one is supposed to be fixed(twice?) in recent patches.

The harpy one is just … something. Even when it doesn’t break the event doesn’t give any event credit.

That is not aetherium. Aetherium acculates over time from having the mine. Favor is what you get from guild missions and … see above.

Your right, sorry I was about half dead to the world when I wrote that… Favor is the main concern for us all, though aetherium is also a concern that we all face, both are key components to our guilds going up in levels…

Aetherium is very unlikely to be an issue unless someone is planning on throwing a lot of money at the material requirements of the other upgrades and if that is the case they should send some of that towards the mining rate upgrades. If there isn’t someone planning that then more often than not you’ll have aetherium sitting at max capacity but with insufficient resources to get any upgrades.

There are also the WvW Protect the Dulyak missions, which only take 3 people on easy, medium and even hard, they just go up in amount of times to protect and time frame isn’t too bad either, its one we usually do if we get a chance…

If you happen to be in a guild that enjoys all game modes that is fine but otherwise setting it to PvE only tends to be less risky. The 3 people minimum requirement can also a bit of a problem.

Compared with GW1, guilds just don’t seem to matter very much in GW2.
I’m sure there are some happy, thriving guilds out there but it does not feel like there is the vibrant diversity of guilds we had in GW1 and they don’t seem to have much of a role. Maybe it’s the gameplay style, maybe gaming habits have changed, maybe it’s something else. /shrug

Are you trying to make some vague reference to GvG? Otherwise I don’t see anything in GW1 that required a guild. My guild exists for the same reason in both game, as a chat channel primarily.

Traits system does not prone build diversity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

Excuse me while I put on my “Captain Explains Things” codpiece and recount history for a bit.

The original trait system we had was quite free form. Given 70 points, we were allowed to invest any number of points into any line, and once we had sufficient points we could grab any trait along that line. This would also give us status bonuses depending which lines we invested in. This system… was scrapped. Largely because Anet found in testing that free-form trait choice lead to the ability to make some seriously overpowered builds. Having no better way to deal with the horrible build inequality that would arise from the situation, the “adept-master-grandmaster” tiering system was made. This provide at least some form of exclusion along the traits.

However, all was not well. We still had to deal with difficult trait balancing, even more so since physical stats were still tied to the trait system. After awhile, Anet noticed an anomaly among player trends. There was a large portion (I can’t remember the exact number, so lets just say significant enough) of players who, quite frankly, couldn’t build themselves right. One of the most popular builds in the game was the 14/14/14/14/14 build, where players would distribute their trait points evenly across all lines. Back then, the system was designed so you would specialize into different lines, and it gave you a new trait choice for every 5 points. So players would instinctively distribute their points in the literally worst possible way.

After a horrible NPE update and a couple of attempts to lock traits behind achievements, the system before was scrapped almost entirely, and now we have the new specialization system. While the freeform point allocation could work well for players who liked to theorycraft or listen to theorycrafters, the system was too idiot-prone to function. The current system we have now was designed specifically to minimize the chances that a player is going to build themselves into ineffectiveness.

As much as I’d like to see the build system become more diverse, the dreaded 14 × 6 build problem still exists. Any complicated system proposed would have to either accommodate for the fact that players will use it incorrectly, or have to convince Anet that it is O.K. for players to build themselves horribly.

Many of the old traits were also very crappy. The total number of traits might have been greater but the actual number of choices was not equal to the number of traits available.

The Guild Issue

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

Well, I was thinking of implying a better guild system, by making then more relevant, maybe adding guild structure, such as divisions. Each division would have its own job and specialization. Eg: stealth, front line, etc. I believe guilds are an opportunity for communities to expand, instead of just sitting there.

That would be putting the cart before the horse.

More likely than not it would just be a waste a resources because it would be created and nobody would use it because there is nothing in the game that would benefit from that structure.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khisanth.2948

This has been driving me absolutely crazy while trying to decorate the guild hall. You right click to turn your camera, you left click to turn your decoration, and sometimes you click both mouse buttons during the transition between the two and your character runs forward and screws up all of your positioning. Please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD give us an option to turn off this archaic default control that moves your character forward when using both mouse buttons simultaneously.

(If it is already possible to turn this off and someone could point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.)

Those problems have very little do with this particular feature.

The real problem is the clumsy decorating interface we have right now. For example it should be possible to edit a decoration’s orientation after being placed. You should be able to target and remove a specific decoration instead of being an AoE operation. Being able to adjust position after placement would also be good.

Path of Exile has supporter packs that people can buy in addition to the stuff in their store. https://www.pathofexile.com/purchase as you can see on the page some of those are pretty pricey and in the past there was another tier that was in the $1000 range. You can also set up a payment plan by contacting support. That is functionally equivalent to a subscription. Everything is cosmetic so there isn’t any issues with benefits. They are also more balanced than some of the ideas in this thread which might be great for players but sucks for ANet.

Any kind of perma-boost would take it out of the mix which I don’t think is happening any time soon.

Also consumable http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Writ_of_Masterful_Speed but ANet needs to be stop being in love with Matroska doll based design for that to be worth using. 13g for 30m of 25% speed boost is just a bit too out there.

Dungeon tokens, PvP dungeon reward tracks, WvW dungeon reward tracks.

The WvW weapons are 198 badges for 2h and 132 badges for 1h plus 1g. Badges can be converted to Badge of Tributes and sold. At current prices that means the WvW exotic weapons cost 2g57s90c for 1h and 3g36s85c for 2h. If you don’t like PvP type activities then Edge of the Mist is probably easiest to get to rank 14.
