Saving Custom Outfits?

LotRO already has this feature and, if ArenaNet absolutely has to monetize everything, I’d rather have them use that system. In LotRO you get 2 outfit slots for free (I think it’s 2) and you can buy more in the cash shop.

Has anyone address the loss of feature from transmutation where we can mix and match the skin, stats, and the rune/sigil/stone?

Right now the Transmutation Charges only change skins.

What if I want the stats from a piece of gear, or the rune, or the sigil — what then?

The loss of this feature doesn’t warrant the Trans. Charges to be the same price as the Trans. Crystal because they are obviously not the same thing — we’re paying the same amount for something that is obviously less than what we get from before.

This is borderline evil.

That is one of my main issues with the new wardrobe system. In my opinion, the losses outweigh the gains with this new system. And I am not alone in thinking that, based on what I read so far.

Will You Be Playing GW2 Less Post Patch ?

I will likely play less than before and a lot less than I intended to, but not because they nerfed the champ train. I’ll have to see what ArenaNet does about the complaints regarding the patch. I expect we may have to wait a bit on a reply from them, so I will probably play something else until then.

I was really excited about the changes, but I made the mistake of not reading too much about them. I’ve logged for a bit since the patch hit, and that excitement is gone and replaced with disappointment. I don’t expect ArenaNet to do much about the questions raised by the players, so I guess I will take yet another break from the game.

Which I assume is also why PVPers aren’t allowed to freely change their skins now without having to get charges now.

You apply skins to weapons and armor, after you apply it you can still keep them in your inventory and swap them for free.

Thats true, I didn’t think about that, but that now means I have to spend a lot of bank space or character space holding different item skins if I’m someone who likes to swap skins when I feel like it.

I liked having the huge storage I could put everything I had and could swap with whenever I wanted.

If the game had free skin changes like DCUO or LOTRO this wouldn’t be an issue, but why should we have to pay for it?

Dude, TBH with you, I think it’s fine. They don’t charge monthly subscription fee, and they need to make a living. Most of the thing in pvp is free already, except for cosmetics (and the new traits/amulets). You can’t have your cake and eat it too. For hardcore pvp players like us, we already have a good percentage of our wardrobe filled. Cosmetics is what keeping GW2 free for everyone.

I’m for one agree that they can charge a little small fee for cosmetics and keep the game free for most people.

I can have my cake and eat it too in DCUO and LOTRO, and those didn’t cost me a 60 dollar box fee too.

If this game wants to act like a F2P game then it should become one. I support Buy To Play MMOs like GW2 BECAUSE I wanted to avoid crap like this.

I’d like to emphasize this as well. Guild Wars 2 is a b2p game which currently has a worse wardrobe system than that of those 2 f2p games (even STO is better since you can customize your appearance for in game cash as often as you want to – and it’s a symbolic fee too). There’s no excuse in increasing the cost to maintain a specific look on low level characters (which are also used for PvP only as proven in this topic) other than greed.

As some who still has to level up some characters, I am disappointed with the transmutation changes. Since transmutation stones only worked on items below level 80, it meant they were great for maintaining my chosen look while levelling up. They were also fairly easy to obtain, so I had a decent supply of them.

After the update, I am down to about 40 charges, which would be great if I didn’t have 3 characters below level 50 and if a single change of a piece of gear didn’t cost 1 charge.

Consider making it cost only one charge no matter how many gear pieces you change on characters below level 80. Or perhaps someone can come with a better solution.

Khorrax.2108

Before the update, the 80 or so transmutation stones meant that I could easily maintain my low level characters’ appearance. But since I am down to 45 charges now, I am reluctant to spend them on my alts. I mean, I have a level 34, a level 42 and a level 62 character. I would probably need a lot of charges to avoid looking like humpty dumpty while leveling these characters, especially since the change in traits means it’s more important to have up to date gear while leveling up.

Sure, it’s more convenient if you have only level 80 characters since you don’t need to spend cash on transmutation crystals anymore.

I’ll have to play a bit and see how easy/difficult is to get the charges.

You still get charges the same way you used to. When zone completing you get 1 charge and when doing story and other you still have a chance to get a random one charge like we used to get. The plus sides to this for me is I used to be able to be crazy with changes to my characters from 1-79 because I had tons of low level crystals but then at high level I had to basically pick carefully and them never change it due to not getting many. The change allows me a way to know I can get a guaranteed charge for any level and instead of going crazy work at my look while leveling but having to make choices and by the time I hit 80 already having a look I love. Before I would do that probably more careless than I needed and would hope by the end I had enough high level charges to actually get the look I wanted since the others were useless then.

Yes, I did acknowledge it’s more convenient for level 80 characters. But before the update I would get 3 transmutation stones from completing a map, which meant I could change 3 armour pieces. Now I would only get one, therefore only one change.

I have yet to do some sPvP to see how you get charges through that, so I can’t comment on that yet. So that leaves me with dailies and map completion to get charges (aside from using gems, of course). I don’t recall story missions awarding transmutation stones and I never got any stone or crystal from dailies, so I am not exactly thrilled with the change in transmuting items.

I’ve ended up liking pieces of the Zodiac armor and worked them into my main set. I can’t decided which I like better, though!

First set:
Head – Honor of the Waves
Shoulders – Seer
Top – Phoenix
Gloves – Ascended
Pants – Zodiac
Shoes – Zodiac

2nd set:
Only the pants changed to ascended.

I like the first one a lot. I didn’t think you could mix Zodiac armour with other armours, but you did a great job. Tempted to go for this mix, but 1600 gems is a lot…

I had the G600 and I couldn’t stand it. I think it looks brilliant and the buttons can come in handy, but it didn’t feel accurate at all, even after tinkering with its software (maybe I received a faulty one). Speaking of the software, if you are unlucky enough to get an older build mouse, you won’t be able to update its driver. The G600 was too small for me as well. I sent it back and got a Mionix Naos instead, which is very comfortable and I like it a lot.

Nope, which is a good thing after all. I guess it’s also a matter of getting a bit older and getting tired of dailies/monthlies and other time limited content. I’m just at a point where I’m increasingly weary of all these methods of trying to tie me up to a game. It’s also not the game it could have been, although it’s still a good game.

And compared to Guild Wars, it doesn’t even come close. I liked that game a lot, perhaps too much at times

[Merged] Cultural Human T3 Not Exclusive

Khorrax.2108

Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.

Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.

We will do a few things to address this issue.

  • We will temporarily remove Flamekissed Armor Skin from the Gem Store.
  • Players who have purchased Flamekissed Armor Skin will keep the skin.
  • We will make new art for the Flamekissed Armor Skin that achieves our goal of making a visually distinct and attractive armor set and does not closely resemble the Human Tier 3 Cultural armor.
  • Once this new artwork is completed, we will then update the Flamekissed Armor Skin so that all existing sets that players have purchased get the new art. We will also offer the Flamekissed Armor Skin for sale again at that time.
  • When we update the Flamekissed Armor Skins with the new artwork, any player that has already purchased the set and who does not like the new, updated look, can get a full refund by contacting Customer Support.

Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.

Thank you everyone for providing your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel about the new armor set.

That’s what I wanted to hear, and many others too I bet. Thanks, but there’s still a lot to do to restore my faith in ArenaNet. A good step though.

Forum Moderation - clarification please

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khorrax.2108

Khorrax.2108

This whole situation reminds me of another official forum of a known RPG maker, which suddenly reinforced moderation when it faced overwhelming criticism of their ending to a trilogy. Just like in that particular case, Arenanet decided to warn the players (more or less, and on what can be considered an aggressive tone), rather than sit down and talk to the players about what worries them.

I agree that personal attacks don’t belong here, but truth is I didn’t really see much of that when browsing the forums. Mind you, I don’t really check the sPvP and WvWvW forums. What I did see, however, was that very few of the concerns raised by people were addressed. I don’t think there was an answer as to why the updated Halloween recipes require such an atrocious amount of materials which are not reasonably obtainable while the Halloween event lasts. I’m also not sure there were answers as to why the game is beginning to require more and more grind as updates are released, or why is there a time gate on most of the new things you released.

My point is, people are worried and want answers. And I dare say you aren’t handling the situation well at all. I think the game’s at a crossroads at the moment. Discontent is growing, and I can see that not only on the official forums. Of course, some will say it’s the same in every MMO and that people are just complaining for the sake of complaining, but I disagree. I don’t like the direction the game is going, and I believe many others agree with me. But I guess we will all have to wait and see what Arenanet’s next move is.

It is a bit depressing seeing some people try to force the concept of opportunity cost upon us. If you were talking about a real world situation, where we deal in real money, I would understand. But this is a game and the most important thing is that you have fun. Different people have different notions of what constitutes fun for them. If you are all about making as much profit as possible, that’s great. But it doesn’t mean everyone else does that, wants to do that or should do that.

If you want to put a value on everything, go ahead. I find it sad, but it is just my opinion after all, and many will disagree. I think that talking about sub-optimal decisions in a game is ridiculous, same with putting a value on your time spent playing a game. You will inevitably make wrong decisions, thus losing gold/items/whatever. There will always be moments when you could have made a better deal if you had waited more/bought earlier/etc. Just as you will always lose time sooner or later, whether it’s your fault or not (lag, telephone or door bell at the worst moment possible). As to putting value on my time spent gaming, I for one am not being paid for doing this. Nor are most of the people. So how do you put a value on this? Unless you were supposed to be working, but you are gaming instead.

Anyway, my point is that it’s futile to try and put a value on everything. And as a poster above me said, it’s all about perspective. If you like to think that crafting an item cost you 1 gold because the materials were worth 1 gold, it’s fine. But if I want to think that it cost me nothing because I had gathered all the materials myself, then it should be fine too. If I never intended to sell my materials (and I don’t do that), how can you tell me it cost that much when it didn’t. Sure I could have made money selling the materials, but the fact is I didn’t.

I can relate to this as well. Hell, I don’t think I ever got an exotic weapon or armour as a drop since I started playing (almost since the game launched). Mystic Forge, Fractals or dungeon chests? I got a handful from them (less than 10 so far). But at least you get plenty of greens and silver from the champion boxes, and they add up.

My problem with the Living Story is that it doesn’t really tell a story so far. And lately the LS seems to be just an excuse to add more (grindy) achievements in game. There’s not a lot of substance so far, but with the update that provides nice incentives for having a lot of achievement points, it’s worth completing the LS related achievements. If it wasn’t for this, I doubt I would bother dealing with the LS content.
