If there were dead servers they might do something, however if you look on the realm status for choosing a server, they are all at heavily impacted. We don’t even have medium servers, let alone light or dead ones.
Perhaps OP is playing out of sync with their server’s peak time, or simply lacks good social connections.
PvE thief:
2-2-2-dodge-2-2-2-dodge…
Very difficult.
Heartstrike spam may be fail in PvP, but in PvE none of the mobs care.
Sometimes though, you have to cast a stealth house to heal somebody…
Got aq screencap up just moments after it went live last night, on the guild war2 google+ group:
https://plus.google.com/109429043900581551434/posts/TRXLKtruxFz
I’ll have to wait till I get home to put the actual image in here.
Got all 5 of the limited spring pets.
Guardian. Getting my hammer out, pressing 1 and doing nothing else against subject alpha was quite challenging.
I secretly pressed 4 a few times.
On the note on range vs melee. I find ranged harder as it leaves me outside the immediacy of the action and things like avoiding aoe effects requires a longer movement path.
With tool kit my engineer is maybe 60-80% melee. It’d be more but I don’t like the backpack so often drop out of toolkit just to see my toon the way I want her to look
- tool kit is amazingly powerful and makes engineer perhaps the strongest melee class in the game. But seems widely unknown…
(edited by Kichwas.7152)
engi, nothing more to say.
I find engineer silly easy. So I guess this comes down to individuals.
Engineer is the only class I never change my skills / build on.
2 pistols, the purple icon elixor, the tool kit, the elixor that removes conditions, and the elite skill elixor that makes me a giant kung foo machine.
Ok, I do change my heal from the self heal elixor to healing seed (my engineer is a sylvarri) when in groups…
Otherwise just shoot with number 3 for confusion, then swap to toolkit and hit confusion again, then melee a bit, swap back and shoot for confusion, then back to melee… /win.
I think all the classes are about on par for difficulty. What matters more is which ones fit or don’t fit a given player well.
And with 9 character slots, I have all 8 and do dungeons with them all.
There’s a vocal minorit of crazies on every MMO’s forum’s who can’t stand that not all ?MMOs are 103% identical.
They rant and rage in here all day long. You can find them doing it on the wow forums, the NW forums, and on every forum.
They usually want the same basic things: the ability to glitch, farm like bots, be considered epic, have their chosen class most powerful, and to have two factions, elves, orcs, dungeon queues, raids, and Blizzard making the game (but on the wow forums they even complain about the length of those queues, the various devs, and an assortment of other bits of crazy).
In game its pretty nice, but most folks won’t touch these forums with a norn-sized staff thanks to all of the crazy haters raging in here…
Actually almost no MMO offers housing. Everquest II and …. not much else.
Most of them say they will pre-launch and then fail to deliver…
Its really disappointing. I’m with the OP on wanting housing, but I don’t think we should claim its a common feature when it isn’t.
We have a home instance which is more than most. But its still a sadly underused feature…
I’m sure I’m not alone in being the sort who would glady buy loot off the gem store to decorate my home instance for… no rational reason at all… other than to do it.
I remember being so excited on launch day when I saw the human home instance the first time. I ran up three floors of one little house in there thinking of what I’d be able to decorate it with “soon.” Then reality checked myself and remembered no such feature had ever been promised.

Why is it that we are all equal, but that some are more equal than others?
Does this even make sense?
Also a literary reference to the book “Animal Farm”, which was itself a critique of communism, where everyone was supposed to be equal.
Originally, the rule was “all animals are equal”….and when one group took power it changed it to “all animals are equal but some are more equal than others”.
If only kids these days actually learned to read.
The classes are mostly balanced, but sure there are issues that pop up. Especially when they try to balance for both PvE and PvP with the same changes.
Thankfully they are now choosing to split the balance and make PvP and PvE balance separated. But it will take a lot of patches to get it all sorted out…
I’m not convinced the issues are as severe as folks think – they may exist. But a 5% difference gets magnified into a 90% difference in some people’s minds.
(edited by Kichwas.7152)
Its good but not as reliant on control / disruption / boost / debuff as it could be.
While I was a GW1 player, I also come from City of Heroes – wherein EVERYTHING was about controlling the flow of buffs on your side and the flow of debuffs on the enemy side.
City of Heroes had a fatal flaw though in that this system was ‘patched in after the fact’ so NPCs had poor ability to shut down / debuff PCs – a good team of players with solid control skills could basically turn mobs into static things just standing there waiting to be knocked out…
BUT the model was sound – and it made the trinity concept seem seriously silly.
GW2 is on the right path, but there is not enough impact from the application of boons and conditions. Yes they are major, but they are not so major that people work to line them up in perfect harmony.
Give up more – make these things matter twice as much as they do. Make mobs that do smart use of boons and conditions. And less ‘damage soaks.’
stealth thief can do 14K damage with a backstab.
My ele has 11K health
If they would run in completely invisible they can finish me with one hit without me even knowing that they’re there.Glass Canon gets one-shot.
Where is the news?
the news is that you can get shot without even seeing your opponent once.
I’m not complaining about their damage, I am complaining about the invisibility mechanic, because you don’t get a chance to defend.
This can’t happen to any of my toons. Even my elementalist.
No glass canons. No matter how tough the hit, it takes 3 hits to get me at a minimum. So that thief hits, I heal, and then since he was also a glass canon to hit you that hard, I have good odds of staying up and doing enough to take him down.
I’ve fought thieves before – no worse than any others. Just a different gimmick.
I’ve been told you don’t get logs of the damage done to training dummies – so how is this test being done?
Or have I been informed incorrectly / is there some setting to make it log?

.
These things usually seem to come online around midnight.
At least the gem store parts do.
People get into ‘build of the month’ insanity. There really is no such thing as a vastly superior build in GW2 – but people think there is.
Like the whole obsessions some have with ‘zerker’ – a notably inferior choice in many situations that because it works when you glitch runs of CoF p1/2… people are obsessed with.
The last thing you need is to copy WoW, and empower such idiocy.
The experience of both seeing the negative impacts this had to the WoW community, AND the severely negative impacts it had to the GW1 community after it was added there, are good reasons to avoid that mistake here.
Yeah, it just sucks that those of us who actually play get punished cause of botters. guess I will have to find me another farm.
Farming and botting are pretty much the same evils on a different scale.
WOW is that —-—————————————> way.
I’d rather see them open up a new server or three than increase the size.
My server already has lag issues in many places from the crowds.
City of Heroes only ever had 2 expansions. Villains and Paragons. Years apart.
I played that game the same way I play this one: for the enjoyment of playing it.
Not like some Skritt collecting useless shinies.
He’s a bit of a Mary Sue – largely because unless you play a fig-tree he just comes out of nowhere at level 50 or so and is suddenly the most important thing since individually packaged sliced cheese.
Even if you do play a fig-tree, all that gives you is a chance to meet him early on and learn that he’s “Mr. Important and mysterious.”
You don’t see him evolve as a character, or even show a flaw. He’s a scholar one moment and a marshal the next – but that’s just kind of handed to him, and not through character growth.
The flaw I find in a lot of the characters in GW2 is that they put their stories on the website / wiki or whatever, and not in the game. Though with this guy, the story isn’t even on the website…
He’s just BATMAN. And we’ve got to deal with it.
Pretty much this.
On those skipping exploits – somebody always aggs something somewhere and then it ends up taking 10 minutes to skip a 2 minute fight…
I want to start a new char, but last time with my lvl 50 RANGER i had a hard time with groups for dungeons. Do i still need to choose between WARRIOR or GUARDIAN to not be kicked from a party?
Just find a guild not run by fools and you’ll be fine with any class.
I find the most enjoyable runs are when we manage to have 5 different classes.
We have the benefit of having 3 like enough minded GMs, all of whom suffer altitus, and so we encourage class diversity by simply refusing to stick to one option ourselves. :P
There are plenty of guilds like us though. Check places like facebook, google+, guildlaunch, and so on to find a server forum and see if there’s a guild there looking for people and with interests that better meet your needs.
They need server forums here…
I’ve seen runs of path 1 that go smooth as butter and runs where it seems like there is nothing we can do to keep gravelings off of Hodkins in the Archive of The Resting.
- Runs where we’ve managed to down 4 or 5 burrows in quick succession, only to have one graveling stick on him and not go down fast enough.
Not sure if it just glitches sometimes, or if those are the nights were we are doing it wrong. I suspect the latter… but wish I could blame the former.
Otherwise AC is not bad if you have a team with balanced builds and good cooperation.
I like WoW’s solution.
They just put in actual farms where you can grow turnips and carrots to your heart’s content. :P
I’ve been to malchor’s leap today to get the farmers away from there. What kind of impression do you think you give a new player when he goes to finish a temple event to buy his first ever pair of exotics and gets chased away by people swearing at him, because they want the event not completed and the temple not open so that they could continue getting sweet lootz?
I have yet to see people swearing at others trying to complete that event. Not saying it doesn’t or can’t happen but generalizing farmers as ravenous, rude and foaming at the mouth is just ridiculous and flat out false….few of us are actually like thakittens
happened to me. The first time I listened to them because I thought, “Oh, maybe they don’t want this completed because it will prevent the chain from triggering that we need to open this temple.”
Because it was my first time down there.
Now I just ignore them and keep on doing the event.
One doesn’t have to generalize farmers as raving lunatics. They prove that point often enough on these forums.
Something wrong with the Polish language version of the game?
For the first few years that I played City of Heroes nothing dropped anything and I still played the game.
Because I was there for the game.
Not the shinies.
Ya’ll are a bunch of Skritt sometimes…
Every class has a melee and a ranged option (though for engineer the melee option is hidden in the utility skills).
Every class has at least one good AoE weapon.
Picking a race is all about flavor. I strongly recommend using up all your initial character slots to try out each race to about level 10, and then use that to narrow things down and re-roll on the races and classes you like.
Also there is structured PvP, which you can access by clicking on the icon of the two swords at the top left of the screen.
Tarnished Coast is the roleplay server. Its been full since launch.
People get in through the cracks every now and then, but otherwise the place is packed.
The long term payoff for the norn stories is that by the level 30 part you are done with them, unless you choose Vigil, and then you get stuck with a Norn sidekick for another 20 levels…
That’s it.
Charr storylines are yes, ALL amazing.
Human is good in the commoner and peasant lines. And missing sister even lets you fight a GW1 villain that is supposed to not exist anymore… :P
Asura is… well despite being the arrogant race they’re not all that bad, but not exciting either.
Sylvarri I was so unimpressed with I had to force myself not to delete my engineer… having already deleting earlier attempts, and it being my 8th character. But after enough levels it wasn’t so bad. The ‘White Stag’ option at least didn’t feel like some plant-romance-novel…
8 months is not new. Period.
I can’t think of a single MMO that was particularly good at 8 months.
RIFT was perfect since day one.
I think that’s one of the very few times I’ve ever read anything but a complaint about that game.
Isn’t it one of the many MMOs that went near bankrupt after launch and had layoffs?
In fact, GW2 is one of the ONLY MMOs that hasn’t been forced to layoff large parts of its team after launch since about 2005…
This game is not perfect, but it is pretty much what they said it would be.
It just isn’t WoW 2.0, and I know that makes some people very mad…
B) We are still waiting a Dungeon Finder here… At least Trion listened to the players.
You can keep waiting then. They listened to the players here too, and so they aren’t adding that.
They’re going to make tools for us to better manually build groups in game, but not a dungeon finder.
They listened, just not to you.

I’ve been running around in Orr all day between breaks in my personal story (in Orr), and have no magic find and always forget to eat food… But we’re running 10% magic bonus in my guild right now – so 10% is all the bonus I have.
But there are 2 exotics in my bags right now that were not there this morning. Plus my crafting mats have been filling up like crazy again, and I’ve vendored a ton of stuff.
/shrug.
I’ve been in Orr ALL DAY LONG and mostly soloing events.
Not hard at all.
Course, I’ve got balanced gear – for both offense and defense.
But I say mostly, because there’ve been 2 or 3 zergs in here as well, and I can’t help but end up in the middle of an event they show up to every now and then. LOTs of people around, map chat is busy, but I’ve been just hanging off to the left of the crowds.
The interesting note here is that the person who was faceplanted, was calling out the one who did not…
This is why I made my characters on the roleplay server. No matter how empty zones get on other servers, no matter how empty or full a roleplay server is – it always gets people who feel a need to do some storytelling out of the way here or there.
I never see empty zones no matter where I go.
I choose roleplay servers in every mmo I try for for this reason. Besides they tend to be lore fans like me, and often are nicer folks (not always), if a bit exclusive at times…
You might just be on a bad server. Even a full server can be bad if it has no community….
They are in a business model at the moment of doing lots of things temporarily, such that the game is never the same. For each thing removed though, 2 things get added and one stays.
Watch wooden potatoes video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIgeldCpV68
Much more has stayed than has been temporary, but a lot of people stop thinking of it as new once its been around for a bit, and because they put it out in trickles rather than singular big pieces, people never add it up and realize just how massive it really is.
I finally leveled my main through to 80 and through the story and…well, Trahearne is freaking awesome.
He kinda reminds me of Will Crusher from Star Trek.
Aka, a bit of a ‘Mary Sue’.
- The ‘straight up never did anything wrong wonder bread kid who is a demi-god’.
That’s just not a hero in my book. Heroes need tragic flaws.
And he’s got no flavor to his personality other than ‘Captain Amazing’.
All three of the order sidekicks make for better personalities. Several of the ‘culture and race’ sidekicks do so as well.
Trahearne just had all the flavor of cardboard and all the crunch of butter…

and the INSANITY of putting “pakitteno” / gambling like RNG items into the gem store. That last one has people getting very confused about the direction of things. It just smacks of “somebody here is making decisions that seem out of touch”.
I dunno, maybe they have analytics to show western gamers really like money for RNG… but I’m skeptical. Of course I don’t think eastern gamers like it either… but maybe they’ve not had a choice but to have it…
I can’t see anybody from anywhere liking it.
You know that there’s a whole city in Nevada based entirely on RNG, right?
Somewhere in Kansas is a guy making a living doing taxes for a bakery or restaurant.
That doesn’t mean I want to have to files gold taxes with NCSoft to level cooking.
One thing does not relate to another. And yeah – it exists out there in the real world somewhere, but keep it out of our MMO.
I think a lot of the frustration he expresses and that I see in some is from all the back and forth over an expansion, the resistence to putting Cantha in, and the INSANITY of putting “pakitteno” / gambling like RNG items into the gem store. That last one has people getting very confused about the direction of things. It just smacks of “somebody here is making decisions that seem out of touch”.

It needs to stop.
Things sold for real $, even cosmetic “junk” – should have an item listed and get that item 100%.
I’d rather spend $1 for a common dye than 50-cents for a 30% chance at a precusor… because if my real money hits the table, I want to know what I’m buying…
But maybe the data actually says people like RNG… I doubt it…
So I can see why some are angry right now.
People who don’t want to be seen as “addicted / junkie” to an MMO who are enjoying that MMO define casual as what they are doing.
- If they don’t like the game, they define what they are doing as ‘too hardcore.’
People who want to be seen as ‘skilled, active, and ready to take it on with the best’ who like a game define what they are doing as Hardcore.
- If they dislike the game they define what they are doing as ‘too casual.’
That’s really all these things amount to.
Are you enjoying it cause of the magic find boost they used as bait to get us out of the curse shore, or because the same instigator quest keeps popping up.
The what who when huh?
I’m not bored at all, and have no idea what you’re referring to with magic find there.
I do a variety of content, and manage to keep very active. If its not for you, its not for you.
Living Story is basically anti-grind/farm.
- You can’t put it into the farming rotation because it’s not going to be there all the time.
For the most part this is an ideal way to do things around here, as this game is not made by blizzard, and lacks elves, orcs, raids, or two factions.
My only concerns are first the lack of Cantha and Elona, and second that the effects of Living Story need to stay around, or its hardly a changing world. So far that is somewhat happening – the refugees sparked the southsun thing. But the changes that stay need to also effect “static content” – like a random building being added or removed in a city here and there, or some NPC conversations updating to refer to things that have happened, and so on.
NO
NEVER
PLEASE NEVER ADD MOUNTS.
Kill the game first. Shut off the servers and call it a day.
But no mounts.
Tbh I see more mixed groups on LFG.com than war/mes groups.
Yes. Until one looks at the CoF listings. There it is all CoF p1 warriors and 1 mesmer, or CoF p2, warriors and guardians.
They need to make the encounters rougher, with some anti mobility effects and a few mobs that apply confusion. And for CoF p2, they need to fix it so you can’t skip the entire dungeon.
Completely wrong. If you can’t find a non war/mes group you’re doing something wrong.
I can find one easily. In my guild.
But not on gw2lfg.com – that’s overwhelmingly warrior + mesmer zerker when you filter for CoF Explorable.
Fortunately I don’t PUG this kind of content often. Fortunately my current 80s are also a warrior and a guardian, and next up for me is a mesmer. BUT none of my characters are zerkers – which I consider a flawed build.
A look at this screenshot shows the place needs looking at, given how tailored the intent of the PUGs for it are.
First got a bug in my ear on this in Kryta listening to bandits. They were just in their cause. Bandits and to a lesser degree Caudecus are fighting to gain civil protections for common people and to overthrow monarchy. The bandits want a government by the people, for the people: a Republic or democracy. Caudecus wants government by the pparliament with the queen a figurehead: “constitutional monarchy” – what the UK and Japan have today (might not be the right term as this system exists even in places without Constitutions, like the UK).
In short the bandits and Caudecus are “the good guys” fighting for rights of commoners and nobles to be protected.
Shift to metrica province and we get to repeatedly beat down Skritt slaves who are being experimented on… hard to say anything about that…
- but there’s a hidden subtext that the Asura mess with the Skritt to keep them from grouping up as grouped up Skritt might be smarter than Asura…
Now we go to southsun. When it was announced… we were told the settlers are unhappy being kept in camps and lacking the right to leave (freedom of movement restricted) by the consortium.
So I figured we were off to kick some consortium bee-hind so hard even the karka would pitty them… arrive, and they have me beating up “rioting rabble rousers” to protect their corporate masters…
- I feel like I’m a contract gestapo thug…
Oh and then there’s the dredge… just to rewind a tad. Listen to them… theyKre right too. They were held as slaves for centuries and their whole thing boils down to “never again”. We should have been making an alliance with them to take out the flame legion… but instead it somehow went backwards…
Stop putting us on the side of evil…

I have a fused weapon ticket I’ve never redeemed. NONE of the skins look appealing to me…
Take off your town clothes or armor and you’re in a bikini.
Problem solved for humans and norn at least.
Just wish I could dye it.
30 is probably young for my guild.
The average gamer is mid 20s to mid 40s, and I think we average mid 30s. We do have at least two youths though. Teenagers have better things to do than play games these days. Like texting on facespam…
