Not enough emotes & I don't like them being sold

Bought the dances and the new shorts and the lion and the new shirt around 12am last night the very moment I saw them go up.

These are EXACTLY the kinds of things I’ve wanted to see for sale up there.

Still want shorts like that and that shirt in both medium and light armors. Hapy but I want them to take more of my money… oh, and charr dreadlocks like Rox.

BUT at the same time the OP has a point in that the game shipped with about half the core built in animated emotes of what it should have had… and I don’t like them as inventory items I need to equip to use.

Let me /dance 3
- I had keybinds like that in city of heroes to swap around emotes and dances on the fly.
I can’t reasonably pop these new dances out before or after a fight (or even during, not that I would… except that I have…)

Its a tighter but better defined list in this game. And you don’t play by cycling cooldowns only. Mobility and coordination to work combo fields, dodging, and other elements play a major role here.

I wish more games would cut down on actionbar bloat.

I too come from WoW, and its a bit shocking at first, but once you get used to it the benefits will likely become more clear.

I find this game very ‘multiple character friendly’. The only exception seems to be ascended items and legendaries. Neither of which is needed.

I have 2 80s so far. Know many people with a lot more. I have another in the high 50s, one in the low 50s. A couple in the 40s, and so on out to 9 characters.

I alternate between them all at a whim.

Kichwas.7152

I would say no to this one.

I know it can be a pain to “wait” for a group, but this is an MMO, not an offline game. Being social is the whole point.

If in a bad guild that isn’t running content together, get into another guild. You don’t even have to leave the first one here.

If unable to get enough people, use gw2lfg.com. Hopefully soon, you will have a useable in-game tool for manually building groups (/pokes devs working on LFG tool with stick).

But the solution to a social problem and a lack of good tools for finding other people is -NOT- to make it worse by turning this into a solo game. The solution is to make the guild tools and friend-finding tools better.

DPS and Meters

in Suggestions

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

Meters are bad – they make a game community horrible and toxic. I am a six year veteran of WoW and I can honestly say that the people who look at/spam meter readings are the most unpleasant and obnoxious jerks in that game, as they would be in this one.
If meters were allowed in this game, I would like to see a checkbox for pugs, so that people could choose not not group with any running such a thing.

As a veteran of GW1, WoW, and City of Heroes all since 2005 I agree with this.

Onlt one of those games had meters, and only one of them has a toxic community.

GW1 was mostly a solo game for me due to picking an anti-social guild and not getting myself out of it. But in City of Heroes not only was the community -not- toxic, it was very social and cooperative. People looking out for each other, making teams, and focusing on having a good time together. The -other- game was just hostile on all fronts once the meters became common.

When I started WoW people ran around helping each other, casting buffs and rezzing folks.

The biggest argument on my original WoW server was a question about how rude it was if somebody passed you by without buffing you – and what could be done to teach people that this wasn’t how to play, that proper WoW play involved being friendly and helping those around you.

The arguments these days all seem to be about how much the noobs and losers want to get carried…

Meters can stay out…

GW2 against the casual player?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

I sort of agree with the OP. The game was always touted as "leave when you want, come back and you aren’t “behind”."

Well, I left in early march, I am patching as we speak and thinking..I missed most of the living story. I didnt experience it. What happened to not falling behind?

Missing an event does not leave you behind.

RL kept me out of the game from Sept to Feb. I missed a few events. I am not at all behind.

The big loot drop for doing the entire Living Story? A pair of exotic gloves with a unique skin.

No one who misses that is left behind. They will just not get a neat cosmetic (for those who like its style).

Here’s the thing; if you don’t show up at the table, you will miss out on what happens there. But in this game, they still won’t leave you behind.

And that no one gets left behind note? That’s a fan comment anyway – not a dev one. Its great that the devs have held to it, but its not the promise -they- made to us. Just our interpretation of their actual promotions.

GW2 against the casual player?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

It is not uncommon for GW1 players to feel out of place in GW2. The lack of community, teamwork, interesting combat, meaningful PvP and PvE are pretty much the biggest detractors for GW1 fans.

I’ve got great community in GW2, but after about 2006 GW1 was a solo game with NO community at all for me.

I think it comes down to picking the right guild and realm. My guild has gotten a few recent members commenting that GW2 had no community and no group stuff for them, so they joined us. My guild is not the most active or social on my realm – but we have -enough-.

My GW1 guild, that I joined in 2005 – was a place of strangers to me. Especially after heroes came in, there was no reason to group, so no one did. Other guilds did not have this problem, but I never shopped around to find them…

But I recognize that this burden was on me, and wasn’t the game itself.

See the nature of opinions is that no one is actually wrong, and no one is actually right. That’s what makes it an opinion.

I tend to agree with almost everything you post on the forums.
And I’m a very “PC” lefty liberal.

So I know its my side of the fence that came up with this special snowflake logic.

But the thing is, most opinions actually are flat out wrong on their facts.

Unfounded opinions are sadly common. Having a view does not suddenly become legit when one feels it is so – if one cannot back it with facts.

The whole point of debate however, is to unmask the truth between the varied opinions.

Dynamic Level Adjustment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

Years of seeing empty zones in WoW, and yet full zones in City of Heroes, makes me strongly disagree with the OP.

City of Heroes was a much smaller game. 100k people split across 8 servers, yet every zone on every server was almost always populated with enough people to form 2 to 10 groups…

And they did…

Because it had level scaling, albeit by choice.

And people chose to.

It made everything stay relevant.

GW2 perfects the formula.

The scaling is automatic, keeps all content relevant for all players, and gives everyone “loot” fitting for their level.

And the result is that on my server at least, I can go anywhere and find people doing stuff.

While it might be nice to make it a choice like in City of Heroes – that required people to hunt down lowbies to bring along if they wanted to do old content.

This method will keep the zones alive for years, even when we hit the days when lowbies become scarce.

By contrast WoW’s leveling zones were dead until about a year ago when they added cross server phasing.

But this is a horrible way to solve the issue. It dynamically turns on and off depending on the current number of people in a zone, and its constantly changing up to keep balance, but shift people in and out as their distance from you alters. You walk a few feet from someone and they go poof, yet some ‘map chat hero’ half a zone away sticks with you for hours…
- and as soon as you out level the zone, you never have a reason to go back, so you still speed through and miss 90% of WoW’s content on the path to some “magical endgame” that is, frankly, lacking in plot…

- Because you missed all the plot on the way up due to too many methods to keep people from getting “stuck” in empty zones …

Do Charrs eat humans?

in Charr

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

Modern anthropology, which involves letting actual people from a group speak for their cultues and uses actual relics in context rather than those gathered by colonial conquerers to justify conquest… modern scholorship has debunked almost every case of cannibalism out there. Very few examples persist – such as the prsent day genocide against pygmys.

Telling in debunking much of that is a conflict between the church and conquistadors. The church ordered that no one could be enslaved or wiped out if their souls were saveable. There was only one sin that could cast a people as beyond redemption: canibalism.

As a result conquistadors found it everywhere they went, but priests coming in after them found no evidence of the practice. Modern science has almost always found the priests were right…

(Another rare exception persisted in one valley in the Phillipines until about the 1970s or so, and is now recalled by locals for tourists as a source of income… so they may be motivated to hype it up…)

Regardless though. There is still NO EVIDENCE that Charr eat other sentients as a culture. There is one pirate making off-color comments. That does not a culture make.

There is plenty of evidence of the different races having derogatory words for each other…

Do Charrs eat humans?

in Charr

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

The “meat” reference seems more an insult. It equates humans with animals.

Like “bookah” equates non-asura with inferior.

There no evidence of Charr eating other sentients, but quite a lot of them enslaving them. That said there were FREE humans in the Black Citadel even before the treaty. Listen to the dialog of the mixed race area and some humans there discuss why they came there.

This implies that as a semi-meritocracy, Charr gave rights to any human willing to live under their social norms / authority. Under the treaty, this is just now open to all humans, even those who had been captured / enslaved.

We’re trying something very unique and different with Gw2, and a lot of it plays back on the original ideas and concepts we had for the game all these years we’re trying to build towards and accomplish.

Our goal is to get to a point where on a regular basis, the world around you is not only changing in the short term through our normal event system, it’s changing and evolving permanently through our living world releases as well. What you’ve seen so far is primarily some tests and warmup stuff while we in the background organize the company to support this exciting future for our game, the future for living world is filled with endless possibilities.

The “fear” a lot of players have I think stems from just how good the design of this new dungeon is.

Its the kind of dungeon a lot of people want:

- Energetic and paced.
- NPCs don’t feel pointless.
- Feels plot connected to what it relates to.
- Not too hard to learn, not so easy it can be farmed.
- Gated nature of the steps works to block farming, but without being artificial.
- The boss fights are NOT health soaks, but have mechanics to them that take advantage of GW2 unique combat system

People fear losing something this good, and never seeing it again because, sadly, the existing dungeons don’t come up to the level of this one.

When GW2 launched, the first dungeons were exciting. But only because we were still learning some basics. Many of them do have a dynamic boos or two (lovers in AC Story, or the ghostly graveling from AC explorable come to mind). But most are just “tank and spank” fights minus the tank.

And the paths of explorables – have all the plotline of a cereal box. The Story modes had plot, but in a skippable manner, and the NPCs in both were usually best left ‘dead’ off to the side somewhere.

Fractals are a bit more engaging, but this new thing is just amazing.

More of this please. And maybe go back and take another look at the old dungeons.

Get some toughness and vitality and then its just fine. Content was broken before. When mobs hit so softly that zerker/glass canons can survive, that’s brokenj.

Went soloing in orr last night, did a couple events. Plan to go again tonight and see what else I can work through.

If you insist on being glassy, have fun standing outside of cof until they fix that too, and then stick to wvw or spvp where you can hide in a zerg or get on a themed team.

guild wars 1 the only connection whit this game is that anet made it. after that…nothing!

Wow…

Everyday in GW2 I am seeing lore from GW1 and places that are the ruins of or in similar design to GW1 spots.

I’ve even met a dwarf and talked about how things have changed.

Anytime I’m on my charr or human, I can see and feel the connection.

For me the links are everywhere.

As for gw2 vs other mmos…
I still have a wow sub, but it doesn’t pull on me. GW2 has stronger lore and better gameplay. The same echos for the other mmos I’ve tried.

Even Champions. I’ve been a Champions table top player since 1982… but the MMO just did’t connect for me. The lore vibe just didn’t resonate.

Query: Rate this April 30th patch.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

To people who say world vets are now too hard: this is from too many glass canon / zerker builds out in the open world where you need a balanced build.

If you had a balanced build the changes would be something you didn’t even know had happened.

I was wondering how I’d managed to almost complete my monthly for vets last night, now I know.

If you are on a balanced build and getting hit hard: avoid group events where you see a lot of people getting downed fast. That’s a group with too many glass canons and you don’t want to be carrying ALL those folks…

On the patch my ONLY complaint is that the best dungeon ever is temporary.

Everything else looks like sheer /win.

The skins were done right.
The dungeon is amazing.
The pet promo is a great revenue idea I plan to get all 5.
The gauntlets are good. One per account is offset with it being exotic so you don’t NEED it for multiple toons. Would be nice but I can acccept this.
The class changes seem the right direction.

Good patch overall, just let us keep this content.

Why is the Molten Facility dungeon temp?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

It was made by the event team and not thbe dungeon team.

This is why much of the flow is so different.

It might be temp because the team is under trial approval to do this, or because they see it as just an event.

Either way this is the BEST group content GW2 has ever had. It ought to be perm, and this team needs a promotion to dungeon design/redesign.

The dungeon team should be integrated with these guys so that world event content can gain more of dungeon difficulty and group build thinking, and so that dungeons can learn from what this team did here.

It is too amazing to get shelved.

Permanent Stow for Ranger Pets…

Its needed so badly

See screenshot.

Is that not working in Arah?

My list:

1. Guild tools lacking. Need to be able to see things like member activity, how often they represent, how much influence they’re generating vs. how much benefits they’re getting from when they represent. How long since they’ve last been around. Need ability to edit message of the day without having to retype it all. Want place to put in server and port if we have vent or mumble, and website if we have that. The game need ability of people to search for guilds based on various factors (member averages for: % of world completion, PvP or PvE completion, Dungeons done, Race / Class / Profession representation, settable flags for desired content: RP, PvE, sPvP, WvW – checkbox not radio as some do more than one), etc…

2. Farmable content needs to get patched out. I’m looking at CoF path 1 in particular, but many dungeons have paths that are unusually easy to farm. This needs to get fixed, it disrupts the larger picture of the game economy and long term stability. Dragons and other major world bosses need to be moved off of predictable timers.

3. sPvP. Observer mode needed, ability to ‘register’ a permanent team name and have it scored. Ability to do private matches. Ability to do guild vs. guild matches. Some of this is coming, all of it needs to.

4. Where mah guild hallz @? Seriously… This -is- Guild Wars right?

5. Group building tools. Ok, there is a looking for group tool in the game, the magnifying glass on the left side of the panel that opens when you hit the ‘y’ key. Now make it useful. Why is it limited to only searching people already in my friend’s list? Make it so I can list what content I am interested in, and let me search for others by those factors.

6. Give me the option to choose to move to an overflow server if one exists. Lion’s Arch is way too laggy when it fills up on my server and there is nothing worse than being the person who gets in right before the next person moves to overflow… Dropping from 50fps down to 0.5fps is horrible. And then getting out of the city worse because I can’t even open the map or my options panel (on weekends I turn my graphics to low on every setting before any ports to Lion’s Arch. On weeknights its hit or miss so I don’t always do this).

7. Need a sit animation for chairs. Seriously. Ok, so you can’t go back and add it to every chair. Fine. Make /chairsit, and have that make our toons sit as if there was a chair under them, and drop down to fit some standard chair height, but push up until they are fully above ground height.

8. More build in emotes. Especially separate male and female dances…

9. Less Buttflap in the medium armor range. Give us 3 more tops for both sexes that DO NOT have a buttflap.

10. Make the Mac client as good as the PC one. Not some emulator, but a native client so I can set the graphics just as high. And fix the window, so I can run in fullscreen-windowed without it cutting off half the action bar. Make it equally fast – I can feel the molasses when I run in Mac. The same machine, booted into Windows through bootcamp, is visibly faster to react because its not using an emulator.

I would assume that’s the case but, you’d be surprised how often Boss’ target me with 2.5k armor, meaning I can only lose their focus by running away.

Well if you’re running with a group of glass canons that 2.5k would be high. If you ran with our guild, even our ranged only people have several hundred more armor than you. I think the lowest in the group when we were talking about it during fractals last night was 2.9k, most were over 3.0k.

You can have 3.0k armor and be the soft one in the group if everyone else is topping 3.1k to 3.3k.

THAT said, our current aggro fiend was in fact the guy with the 2.9k… and so we’ve been talking about this a lot. For the past two nights sets of dungeons, he’s been a mob favorite and all our heavy armor protector types spend the run chasing after our engineer, or reviving him…

(But this new… in the past this guy could stand on the boss’s head and not get aggro.)

I still think that whoever designed Engineers must have made Colin Johnson mad or something. Every time there is a patch, Engineers get nerfed. Engineers started the game weak, and get beaten into submission as a side thought each patch. It’s like watching an old Looney Toons cartoon where someone gets smashed into a hole, and then pushed down farther… and farther… and farther.

The first couple of patches it was humorous. Now it just feels malicious. Someone has it out for engineers 0_o

And yes… a LOT of idiots and fools up there who are not clear on the concept of what GW2 is for. All those zerker runners…

What are they going to do when they get all that gold and a legendary? Queue up for the raid?

Oh that’s right… there is no raid.

But at least they’re easy to avoid.

The underdog classes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

At least in PvE (I don’t PvP) the classes are well balanced. Where one is seen as weaker its from people who have yet to master it.

So I enjoy them all, for the most part. Have yet to get into Engineer because it lacks melee. Forcing myself of late to play one up till I can get toolkit and see if that’s vibrant enough melee.

Ranger is a lot of fun for me on sword/torch and axe/axe. Once I finally got rid of all my bows the class opened up for me.

Likewise, Necromancer, once I ditched the pets, has been entertaining. I enjoy dagger/dagger – but its also one of the only classes where I’ve been able to get into staff, even with that being all about ground targeting effects which I normally hate (hard to use while circle strafing).

Many people who -like- WoW came here to get a new WoW.

IMO a big mistake for them. And they’re more vocal than the rest of us, who are perfectly happy with the format here.

I -do- like WoW, but don’t want everything to be WoW. And I love this game too.

The team that was working on the living story content should really be working on new endgame PvE things.

The living story content IS the endgame PvE.

Adding a bunch of extra gear skins, a bunch of new DEs, a new dungeon, and new achievements and still people are complaining about a lack of “endgame?”

Except that half of those new gear skins (so far fused weapons, in addition to Halloween/Lost Shore ones)

So a bunch of people in your guild being panicked that the new skins -might- be fused weapons has suddenly become -they will be fused weapons-?

Paranoia != fact.

Last man standing = Best player in the party?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

I’m a front line person on all 8 classes who also usually has the bulk or a major part of the aggro. I also do a lot of in-combat revives, boons, and condition removals.

When I say, as I sometimes do, that I am the last one standing – it also comes with the above in mind. Often I manage to live to reset a fight, even one I was “tanking”.

If you managed to never have aggro, and are still the last one standing – then we can start talking. That might have been because you weren’t doing your part anyway, or it might have been circumstance. Even in that scenario we need more facts.

Dungeons, fractals, raids? What's the diff!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

A “raid” is content that requires advanced preparation from an organized group. Both setting up a team and command structure, as well as obtaining needed game enhancements (mats for consumable buffs, keys to unlock, and so on).

Raids are not done in one sitting, but over a length of time.

MMOs in general have very few raids left. Even WoW; the king of “raiding”, has moatly 10-person and 25-person dungeons now. They are organized under the title of raid, but only a handful take much organized play.

A “Dungeon” can be handled by a group of people who come together for the task, often shortly beforehand or even as the task begins. This is much more the popular format now. GW2’s open world massive Champion encounters are open world dungeons, not raids.

WoW’s current ‘World Bosses’ are 40-person “Dungeons”. Compare them to the open world bosses of classic WoW – that could takes weeks of preparation and training to complete. Those were open-world raids. The Open world bosses of WoW today have as much pre-organization to them as a group event in Orr has here. It is literally whoever is in the zone pwns face on a giant dinosaur or giant tar monster without even so much as saying hello to the other people.

Raiding really isn’t that liked by most players… Most of them just like ‘oversized Dungeons’.

If you actually put people in front of some content and tell them:

“Ok, to do this you will spend weeks getting everything to open that front door unlocked, and then weeks farming up all the mats to make cooking, sharpening stones, and potions for it, and then enter with 40 people and still spend weeks of wiping with no reward until you finally master it by a 1% margin.”

- They would not want that.

But they do like “give me a dungeon my entire guild can zone into all at once and pwn face with little effort for sweet loot on the first try.”
- Until they’re given it, and stuck with it for a year and a half with nothing else because it takes that long to make it and then to make the next one… And it becomes a situation where the “OMG I PWN FACE” looks silly when even the people not wearing armor and missing w weapon can do it half AFK…"

Yeah… raids are mostly dead. Good thing too. Massive dungeons really aren’t that amazing… people don’t have the patience for something that large when it is a challenge and they also face the challenge of getting 40-internet geeks to get along.

Small dungeons provide a much better option to make content that can scale for easy and difficult challenge and allow a group small enough for the human factor to be manageable by casual acquaintances.

Chinese GW2 beta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kichwas.7152

Kichwas.7152

I would think the biggest issue with GW2 in China would be the fact that the primary endgame enemy is the Risen which are corpses, and shown as such. As I understand it there are some fairly strict cultural mores regarding the depiction of the dead and bones in China – the launch of Wrath of the Lich King was very delayed in China due to the number of cosmetic changes needed to the zones, the Forsaken and death knights to make them acceptable to the Chinese authorities. I believe it has to do with the tradition of ancestor veneration in China (or so it was reported.)

As a Chinese American I would suggest NEVER mistaking Chinese tradition and culture for the actions / policies of the government currently in power in mainland China.

Due to restrictions on this forum which seem to want to equate that government as speaking for my ancestry… about all I can say on that is that they make their choices for their reasons, and it is not wise to read too much into that. No more than looking at the choices of any particular US political cycle as a statement of what is American culture. A government is not the same thing as the culture, beliefs, and values of a people – it can be, but it is not such by default.

Whatever reasons that government had trouble with WoW were their chosen reasons. Meanwhile countless Chinese people around the world had no such trouble with that game.

They have their own reasons for restricting certain content. But that does not reflect back on my culture or ancestry.

This would basically be akin to having sPvP characters all normalized to base level 75, and then requiring them to do level 75-80 in PvE.

Its a mistake to make PvE requirements cross to PvP and vice versa.

Just have two map completions: PvE and PvP, and a third achievement for having them both – but the benefits of getting it should be on the different individual ones.

Kichwas.7152

Endgame in the way most people use it is asking for raids simply because most people grew up on WoW by now, and all you have there is raidgame or pvp-point grind.

I wish they would add more small explorable open world dungeons with a chest at the end. Not a pure jumping puzzle but a mix of real puzzle elements (pressure plates, switches, trapdoors etc) with challenging combat, time pressure due to respawns and some precarious jumping shortcuts. Put a nice chest at the end and voila.

There are at least 3, maybe as many as 5 full “dungeons” that are open world with multiple bosses and chests. They’re pretty unknown though. I’ve stumbled into two of them. Wiped horridly in one because I thought the things were just regular veterans, and got lucky on the other and stumbled in at the same time as 4 others. We did the whole thing, marveled at it, and went our separate ways.

The one I did as a group was triggered by an event, but not an event itself if I recall right. Hidden and not normally there. The one I tried to solo is always there, and people pass right under it all the time. Its pretty close to a common waypoint and near where two zones meet.

I’ve slipped through walls or bushes on accident before in this game and found myself in whole mini-zones. Sadly most of the ones I’ve found were empty of critters. But not always. Some have even had nods to GW1 lore.

I -DO- think the game needs more content, in the long run, if it is to survive. In my opinion we were given about a year and a half of viable PvE content at launch. We’re nowhere near that point yet. But content needs to keep coming in to keep things fresh.

In GW2 you have not reached endgame until:

You have an 80 for each of the 8 professions and each of the 5 races.
You have 400 in all 8 crafts.
You have 100% World exploration.
You have ALL of the armor sets.
You have done every path of every dungeon.
You have done ALL of the non-instanced hidden dungeons.
You have completed every Fractal.
You’ve done every sPvP map.
You’ve explored every WvWvW map.
You’ve fought against every server in WvW.
You’ve filled in the full achievement bar.

- Once you do at least that, plus the things I’ve missed… Then start talking about Endgame…

I play and enjoy this game BECAUSE it has no “end game”. People who like and play this game are people who make their own end game. They decide what they enjoy and they do it. The game offers a variety of experiences for different types of players.

That describes a LOT of regular GW2 players I know.

I’m pretty surprised day after day that so many people feel this game needs to be WoW. If they like WoW so much… go play that.

Considering there’s not much direct trading in GW2, that probably wouldn’t be a problem. But they should add an lfg channel or tool (yeah I know they’re working on it) before.

Its not the discussion of trade that ruins it for WoW. No one uses the trade channel for trade. They use it to make racist and / or homophobic jokes, argue about what guild is more epic, or engage in middle-school level humor…

The wider you make a channel, the more you open it up to pointless jibber-jabber and ‘chat griefing.’
