Thats amazing! How did this get overlooked in GW2?
Maybe they didn’t want teenagers to get heart attack ?:)
Stick to the topic guys, pros and cons of castbars. We can complain about their work in other thread:)
Drop traps under yourself, fire, spike and poison, equip sword + dagger to evade his attacks. Watch him die
That Daze would be far too powerful the way you describe it. I would like to see some sort of boomerang arrow or thrown dagger to work somewhat like Magic Bullet mesmer has but with a unique Ranger twist. It could daze 3 targets it hits for like 2 seconds and cause your next pet attack to apply 3 stacks of confusion for 3sec
Is anyone else bored of yellow stinky kinckers?
I think it would be great if Anet added custom underwear that we can also colour.
We want to looking sexy in our lingerie! -
I wish to point out it is rather funny really. GW1 Elementalist female had amazing lingerie. GW2 female human has crap ;p
http://nerdybookahs.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/gw_underwear.jpg
I think that expecting Ranger to have variety of skills like Engineer is pointless as I don’t think it will ever happen. That is engineers forte and design. Our toolbelt actually changes and is not as boring and static like it is for other classes (10x more fun than warrior/mesmer etc F1+ skills)
I will report thread to be moved to ranger sub forum because quite frankly i think you will receive there more feedback and this thread will not drop from 1st page as fast.
Flamethrower doesn’t need many changes really
Just a few to make it awesome.
Flame Jet – Reduce channel from 2,25 to 1,75. That’s the only thing it needs. By that dmg will jump a lot. 3 targets is fine. Keep the same number of hits as is though! so 10 hits in 1,75 instead of 2,25.
Flame Blast – FIX THE BUG!!!. Make it 400 range so it can be used on shorter range as well. Right now it’s pretty useless with anyone in our face and 600 range does not fit FT 0-400 range (or 425?:D)
Air Blast – This skill is actually perfect. AoE knockback/interrupt with Projectile reflect. It reflect projectiles for ~1,5-2s after you use it and is pretty good
Napalm – ….make it as it was in beta…. Make it add BLIND besides burning. Or make it circular and add cripple to burn
Smoke Vent – Give us back Backdraft or give it bigger radius, and pulse 2-3 times. Increase CD if needed.
There you have it. FT is now perfect.

I think many people will agree with me that currently interrupts are too weak.
Right now to successfully interrupt enemy you have to read his animation, know what he is about to use and time your own interrupt.
Thing is that the level of difficulty to properly interrupt with benefits is totally wrong.
You get almost nothing out of a successful interrupt.
Partially because of that Mesmers don’t feel like mesmers. Where are the skills that vary in the way they interrupt? Mesmers have so many traits and skills that focus on interrupting yet the benefits are almost none for doing it.
IMO interrupted skill should go on full cooldown not some 3s CD. That or force a 3s – 5s full lockout on all skills. Obviously channeled skills would be too susceptible to this there are many ways to balance it without making either useless. Right now i am for full cooldown or making specific interrupt skills cause specific effects.
Maybe some miscallenous debuff applied to interrupted target that makeshis next heal have longer cooldown or something
Not sure how it currently is but Mesmer had trait to cause dmg upon successful interrupt. This damage should be very high, not some little dmg that has no impact at all. Imagine Mantra of Distraction applying 1s daze in case of blanket use and 4s daze in case of successful interrupt. Many ways to make them better and more important.
In general i think that interrupts are pretty underpowered in game right now and it’s just better to burst someone down and ignore interrupts entirely.
Who else wishes for meaningful interrupts? This is really thing that requires decent skill to pull off consistently especially with many skills having short channels.
PS
Of course, imo, interrupting basic attack should have no additional effect besides the usual 1s or whatever Daze. Basically should stay same as is now.
A cast bar would be valuable for spectator mode.
giving a castbar to the players is asking for a bad time.
On the other hand not giving it is asking for all top teams to be asura only.
I am curious about this matter as well now. It piqued my interest and now i also wonder if they stack. If you got 2 of these is it +30%?
Knockdown, launch, stun, daze were considered stun effects for other skills and traits so i gamble the answer that yes, it does affect daze.
About the Bank.
Your Items and collectible will remain the same.
Which I did not think that’s the case, so if you are planning to do this make sure you put all the valuable in the Bank before deleting.
But isn’t it little strange that you need 1800 Gem to only transfer your character progression? I would buy all the slot for the bank and delete, transfer…Since this game is 1 Level = 80 Level, but that is just my opinion.
Happy Hunting everyone.
it’s 1800 to highest populated servers, 1000 for mid and 500 for low
if anything lack of interest will force more updates. Anyways, they did say pvp patches will start from end of Feb and throughout the year
If ArenaNet wants to make GW2 into e-Sport then spectactor mode is needed. Commenters and audience need to know what is happening, what is being cast and so on. Cast Bars make it more transparent. That is one reason to have them
Second reason is that whether AN likes it or not, races does have an impact on competitivity. It’s far harder to distinguish animations done by tiny characters like asura than it is for norn and humans. Becomes even more advantagous in case of group fights vs small enemies or when huge characters walk/cover small ones.
I think that sooner or later ANet will have to add it in one way or another.
That seems pretty unlikely. There are several reasons, one of which is that it would hurt clarity. You’d no longer be able to glance at a guy in heavy armor and immediately he’s a warrior or a guardian.
Right now i can’t tell what the smallest asura is casting from his animations because they are too tiny:P That is if they are further away.
It’s amazing how people can fool themselves, the game is great! we just don’t have enough players. Sure, sure.
It reminds me of that dude who tries to sell the house for 200.000 but can’t, so instead of accepting reality itself, he tries to reason why he cant do it, it must be the economy, you know, the bubble, the employment, etc etc. Sure, sure, just wait 1 year and everything will be fine.
But hey, i’m not ur mother, so if u want to keep playing and believing in the second coming of guild wars 2 pvp, our saviour, it’s ok. I mean, it could be way worse, you could be in a park getting high with LSD.Second coming?? Why???
This is best game with best mechanics and (soon) best eSport infrastructure.
We dont have player base atm, we dont have any good game mode. To be honest we dont have anything except unfulfilled promises….But, soon (soon when its done) we gona have cool new Esports features (about which we cant talk until they are ready), we cant talk about that but just be patient as you can see so far we can promise alot, and if you wish we can promise even more.
Let’s face reality: GW2 is dead, worst pve game in the World (with one unfinished and boring game mode, without players).
Lets, just move on….
Oh oh, oh! I get it! “I don’t like the game so it must be dead”. Cool strawhat argument.
Please, do move on. Like you said.
Nice post Folly. I agree with your points overall, though I’m going to speak primarily to your points about communication, community involvement and transparency.
The trick with our communication, is to find a good balance, on multiple levels.
First, we have to be conscious of the balance between how much time we have to be posting on the forums and writing blog posts, with how much time we have to be working on actual development: bug fixes, profession balance, designing new features, implementing new content, etc.
Next it’s important for us to be conscious of the balance between saying too little, leaving people pessimistic about when things are coming out and guessing about how those things will work, and saying too much, harming our ability to later change, postpone or abandon something that we’ve already publicly committed to.
Finally we need to consider the balance between relying on community feedback too heavily, where it’s super time consuming for us to process and leaves us feeling unable to make a change without first asking for a community vote, and relying on community feedback too little, where we might miss some key information that could impact the success of our future releases.
Hopefully we are getting this balance pretty close most of the time, and if not, it’s always something we are working towards improving.
Anyway, keep up the good, constructive posts!
The problem I see is you are doing it too slow. There are serious bugs with skills that have been here since closed beta even, point in case – Flamethrower’s skill #2.
You should imo pay more attention to underused skills and make them little more powerful and interesting and leave good skills as they are. It will naturally evolve over time and give birth to new possible builds that utilize new buffed skills.
I know balancing is a very time consuming mind bending task that takes a lot of thought, time and data but by being too careful sometimes game gets stagnant quickly and does not feel fun anymore.
You should do more daring changes (but not too big ofc) while there are no big tournaments, leaderboards etc. Experiment while you can because when these features are in game you will have to be a lot more carful.
Ausra of course. Who needs dirty coal powered Charr steampunk engineering when you have Asuran warp portals, alchemy and ecto-physics?
Yet your asura uses those charr solutions XD
Sorry, but you run out of tickets if you run paids all day.
LOL what about those of us who work 40 hrs a week, go to the gym, and have friends that don’t play video games? Guess we just have to deal with you people who play all day with no job or obligations.
Who are you? Who gives you the right to speak on behalf of others? I work 45-50 hours a week, got girl, got flat, get to do other things and still can play quite a lot.
Speak on your own behalf and not for the rest of people who might disagree with you. Makes you look silly and does not add any weight to your post at all.
With paid tourneys costing only 1 ticket per person and having almost zero que time there should be no reason to allow pre made guild/party groups of 4/5 people to enter free tourneys.
Free tourneys should be where people who are beginning to learn conquest mode and people relatively new to spvp play in order to get an idea of what to do since hot join doesn’t really teach much.
Putting new players who are trying out pvp against pre made groups all running the typical cheese stuff like bunker guardian, shatter mesmer, 0-10-0-30-30 ele, etc is detrimental to the game.
When you have 3 longbow hunters fighting a bunker guard at mid for 5min+ only to instantly get burst down by a mesmer/theif, they aren’t going to be having fun and most likely will never set foot in pvp again.
Sorry but no. Tournaments are meant to be group play according to ANet. Meant for PREMADES exactly. So sorry but if you want to pug go play hot join. Don’t come complaining that you met premades in a game mode designed for them.

And what is wrong with naming sylvari for example Ari the RedLeaf and giving it red leafs for haircut?:D
Be imaginative
Or sylvari thief called Teher Ashenbark ?
I am speaking strictly of a lore based perspective. Very few Sylvari have anything more than one name. But unless you are an RPer, it makes little difference.
Still I don’t find it right really. Many NPCs have only names and probably for convienience. Queen Jenah, Minister Caudecus,
Only a few important NPCs are given surname, like Logan, Rytlock, racial leaders etc.
I’ve got a friend who never uses his keyboard except to type. He’s done this in several MMO’s over the years I’ve known him with ease. Probably something you’d really have to get used to but he uses a combo of a mouse and Razer Nostromo key pad. I don’t know what kind of mouse it is off the top of my head but I think it might be a Naga or some sort of Logitech mouse.
having nostromo is pretty much like keyboard;p except for typing and it is more comfy
What has newbie to do with casual ? These are very different things.
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit ed.
I can confirm that while holding down the ALT, CTRL or SHIFT key on the keyboard and pressing the Mouse 4 thumb button on my mouse to use the Swap Weapons bind does not work.
I can confirm it actually works for me. W7 64bE as well
There’s this thing called populary “Ghosting”. Google it. Proper term is Key Rollover.
It may be the source of your problem.
Do you get some sound played by PC when this occurs?
People need to really learn who is Hacker. It’s just so annoying to see the word flung around by people who have no idea what it means and who it is.
Also most people confuse Cracker with Hacker.
Please people, if you use the internet that often at least learn such basic stuff.
Charr are engineers lorewise, Asura are alchemist. If you go back into interviews a year ago, Anet stated that the engineer proffession got the elixers from the asura, which makes no sense because they should have just kept elixers as racials….dem mouse are jacking our proffesion….
I don’t think so. The alchemie comes from the engineers not being able to use magic and therefore having to search for a replacement. Asura are a highley magical race, I can’t see them having to rely on alchemy like that. It’s more likely that it comes from the Hylek, who are known for their potions and poisons. It was probably the Asura who refiend it later, or maybe the Charr.
You got it wrong. Engineers are not “unable to use magic”. They just don’t like it and think it is unreliable.
Charr are technologically the most advanced race far surpassing asura (asuras are masters of Alchemagic). Charr make the most reliable stuff and engineering profession came from them “recently”
As for race… Charr still i got human because i don’t like the looks of some armor on charr. Thinking of making my male human into female engineer
And what is wrong with naming sylvari for example Ari the RedLeaf and giving it red leafs for haircut?:D
Be imaginative
Or sylvari thief called Teher Ashenbark ?
Don’t buy it. Dusk is just a first step to crafting legendary and you’ll need even more gold.
+ it’s just looks.
OP, please explain me how is blocking someone I do not wish to talk to an abuse of /block ?
If they blocked you it means they had a reason. Simple as that. Maybe they didn’t want your help, were annoyed by you, you kept pestering them or just didn’t like your way of being.
They have the right to block you for whatever reason even for the fun of it and it’s still not an abuse because that is their right.
Ever thought your “help” is not seen as help by them? That it may annoy them or they just don’t care about what you have to say ?
(edited by Killyox.3950)
I think it’s very bad idea. Agony works off total HP %. You would decimate bosses of every kind quickly and it would be either too powerful, beyond everything else (and AN wants players to have options, not to be pigeonholed) or too weak to ever use.
It also is pretty bland and boring on paper. Nothing fun about it. Just more powerful bleed/burn sigil which is not the way to go.
This is PC title really. Controller support? No chances imo. Not needed as well. Only one step from giving controll support to players wishing for more advantages so they can be on equal footing with mouse/keyboard users.
Too much work for virtually zero benefits.
- Remove kits and turn them into weapons.
Reason: Handling of those kits can be annoying. Lets assume you want to play with grenades all the time. If you are downed you loose the kits function. If you pick something up you loose the kits function. And sometimes you loose the kits function automatically. Or let us stay in our kits.
It would be great if you could switch from rifle to grenade. Wouldn’t it?- Weapons should be buffed for 10%-20% damage.
All weapons are weak. You are rather forced to use kits.- Evading with grenades is rather difficult so you may add some evade utility skills in exchange of the kits.
- Targeting with grenades can be difficult so an auto attack on skill 1 would be appreciated. Maybe you should change the skill to something like the ranger bow skill 1. So you don’t have to use ground targeting for that skill. Or an auto ground targeting system if a foe is selected.
- Remove kits backpacks.
If I select hide the normal backpack the kits backpack should also be removed. So kits backpack and and the normal armor backpack could be tied together.
going by each of your points
- no
- no

Don’t mean to sound harsh but this is actually L2P issue as everything you mentioned can be solved just by playing the game with enough skill and practice.
If something is too hard for you maybe you should change it? I am comfortable with level of difficulty engie has and don’t have a problem with any of the things you mentioned.
Sorry but you picked wrong class. You don’t like kits and backpacks is like saying you don’t like engie and want to play different class.
Engie is the way it is. Not your thing? Well, there are other classes! Those of us who love engie the way it is want it to stay that way.
(edited by Killyox.3950)
they already tried in the pat with no cap (before beta) and said stuff dies just too quickly with it and if there was none it took too long.
This is far more complicated than seen on paper.
PS
technically speaking that Reddit post is not “analysis”. People overuse this term for things that have nothing to do with analysis which is far more in-depth and detailed.
Charr have different view on “Sexy”
disable double tap to evade and melee assist. Melee assist gimps you more often than it helps you. Basically it makes target player bodyblock you so it can screw your pathing sometimes.
Every engineer with bombs/slick shoes should disable melee assist and for many classes it works well as well.
No – because there is no actual cap to it
Yes – because you can get only as much as is on gear and in traits
It was a general statement for people thinking bandage aren’t viable.
They aren’t viable if you stand in front of a warrior and use them.
They are viable when you kit/LoS people.
It wasn’t aimed at you. :P
Ah ok. Just asked because it was pretty general so I wasn’t sure.
Med Kit is not bad skill at all.
It is one of the best skills due to how insane it is with runes and sigils working on using heal skill. You need to swa in to med kit to get full effect without wasting your heal and that IMO is the best part of skill.
In PvE 6/6 altruism is one of the best support runes with med kit for engie in entire game
Well, it’s expensive for a reason
Think i paid 13g for mine.
The good thing with kits is because we share sigils with kits it does not matter whether we switch to weapon or to kit. Either way we get those stacks.
edit; seems they are far elss expensive now
(edited by Killyox.3950)
Actual lil bit of math
5% increase from 1000 hit is 1050.
Hip Shot gets ~60% bonus from power. With 6 stacks of might you get 126 more dmg with 210 power. 1000+ 126 = 1126. 1126 > 1050
With 3 stacks you get bonus 63 dmg and 63 > 50.
BUT! Do you ever hit 1000 on hip shot? How often really? More like 600 right?
600+5% = 630
So it’s 30 dmg vs 63/126 bonus dmg just on auto attack.
Blunderbuss hits harder OFC but it also has a lot higher Power coefficient than hip shot.
That’s not all! We get condition dmg from might! +%dmg does NOT work with condition dmg.
In the past i did far more detailed breakdown. Battle is the best thing we can get for pretty much every spec.
Might scales the best.

Seriously, battle. This is the best Swap Sigil for engineer. 3 stacks of 20s long might before any +boon dur with only 10s CD. It shines REALLY well with out ability to swap in/out kits with 1s CD just for the buff.
Second sigil (if you use p/p or p/s) can be anything. Corruption, Lightning, Earth etc. Just not another swap.
20 seconds of 3 stacks, 10 seconds of 6 stacks. More with longer Boon duration.
105 condi dmg and 105 power / 210 power & 210 condi dmg.
Neato!
It’s not that engie is bad. It suffers from same stuff as other classes but to greater extent. Many sucky skills on kits. Kits need to have more determined roles and useful competitive skills.
That’s pretty much this + bug fixes.
Engie > all in fun so yeah
Pistol bomb engie is still pretty good
You have to use medkit and learn to use it to see the potential.
You don’t use bandage when under fire.
You ether CC the enemy, kite them or use map object to LoS and heal with bandage.
With perma switchness, just cast any AoE slow, run behind a wall and drop bandage + self heal for a big amount of hp. You are now good to go.
Who si that directed at? OP or me? Because quite honestly I’ve been using Med Kit before most people most likely:)
For some builds MK is best for some HT is best, elixir sucks compared to both with every build with maybe 1 exception^^
I play an Engineer, just because its a lot of fun for me to play. I really like the variety of playstyles that you can do with a engineer. And i just like the playstyle overall.
But now that im playing more dungeons i see that al lot of players hates me for playing an Engineer, they even trowning me out of their team when i join as my Engineer.
Now i have noticed that no matter what build i use, my dmg isnt all that great. Is it really so that Engineers suck in dmg? Do ppl hate them because of that?
They are jealous because we are the coolest kid on the block.
I wholeheartedly disagree with OP.
Pact Weapon token is enough.
I understand, and sorry about that. Haha. I am very clueless when it comes to this game as a whole. Thanks for the link, it looks really promising.
I can recommend you Guild Wars 2 Wiki
Lots of info about skills classes, know how etc.
You need to learn basics before advanced stuff.
Experiment with skills In the Mists as well as with gear.
Read stickied in class forums as well as visit GW2Guru
I just re-specced the traits on my warrior (no toughness LOL) and chose the trait bonus Deep Strike.
This adds +40 pre for each unused signet that I have equipped.
Now, whenever I activate a signet, I have 2-3 seconds where I cannot control my character. Cannot attack, cannot move or if I am moving I cannot stop her. Everything else moves as normal and once the trait has activated, it’s party time.
Now, I went onto the Hero screen and noticed that when I activate e.g. Signet of Rage, my crit chance goes from 54% to 74%, waits a second, then drops to 72% (because the signet is in use, I lose the Deep Strike +40pre bonus).
So, is Deep Strike lagging my control feed or something? Has anyone else had this issue?
Well this quite easy to answer. First things first
You get +40prec fo each unused signet. When you use signet you lose passive effect of used signet +bonus from Deep Strikes.
When you used Signet of Rage it gave you Fury (+20%) crit but you just lost 40 precision. Depending on your level +40precision can be a lot of chance even 10-20 iirc. Don’t remember exact numbers.
Worse, if you got signet with +precision as passive and use it, you lose precision from signet and from trait.
In short, a lot of times it’s better to not use those signets at all than to use them. This work for low lvl warriors who run deep strikes in signet build for 90%+ crit chance.
The most probable reason why you were unable to move is because you used a skill. Still what you describe doesn’t quite match the cast time of skills. Maybe it’s your input? Check your USB/PS2 connection (depending which you use) for keyboard and mouse and be sure it’s plugged in firmly.
EDIT:
there is another reason for crit% loss. You moved a bit around the area and got downscaled to it’s level by 1 or 2 levels and thus your stats got adjusted to new effective level.
Indeed that does help. I think what I’ll do is a combination of the two…
I’ll probably re-roll my Guardian and learn from the ground up again, and maybe reroll my Sylvari as an Elementalist and try that out too.
Stay away from thief, engineer and ele and mesmer if you think game requires sometimes more skill than you can handle. These classes are punished really hard if you can’t dodge/use your skills decently.
Got a Thief up to level 30.
Interesting, but a bit more skill-based than I can handle at times. Keeping him since he’s not a low level and it would take me time to catch up on him.
What class would be a good way to get me back in to the game? Something fun, not too difficult to get a good grasp on.
These are the characters I have, which can be deleted (not too attached to them). I don’t remember how to play half of them, so if their class is suggested, I’d probably just delete and re-create.
Norn Guardian 18
Human Necromancer 5
Charr Engineer 5
Sylvari Ranger 5Back at launch, I was told Guardians and Warriors were “easy mode”. I must have been playing the game wrong, because my Guardian used to get stomped pretty easily if I wasn’t careful.
Guardian. Fun and easy. If you couple power/toughness/healing gear while toughness and vitality is mixed you can go to lvl 40-50 and never even dodge except the strongest attacks. It has quite fun skills too and is not as twitchy and fragile as thief.
If anything I’d love to see a way to remove the pet from my Ranger at certain times, for example when fighting some bosses in Dungeons that kill pets in seconds, making them near useless, and instead get another kind of boost to compensate. Why can’t a ranger go full out with a Bow for example?
Well, he can’t because he is intended to be GW2 pet class;p
And it’s one of the GW2 gimped classes because the pet is dead 99% of the time during boss fights
And that is why I don’t bother with it. Pets need to have reduced dmg from AoE and from veteran mobs and up as they lack dodge and brain.
