I don’t see traps on engie spec seeing as it’s melee hammer stuff and traps are more about preparation in advance. Doesn’t go well with the flow.
Maybe Tricks ? Tricks seem like a good fit for engie going in with a hammer of doom.
Dhuum would be cool except for the fact that he’s not dead. Just dormant. I would love to see Kalla Scorchrazor for 3 reasons.
1. It would add a Charr legend that Charr players can feel comfortable channeling.
2. It would add another female legend.
3. The Specialization weapon could be Greatsword! As for the utility skills it can grant, perhaps it could draw inspiration from Warrior and get stances that act as upkeep skills that grant perma resistance, perma stability, and perma invuln as long as you have the energy. Of course, they can be balanced out to cost a lot of energy considering they would be very strong. Elite skill can summon Kalla’s soldiers similar to Thieves guild except all Warriors instead of thieves making them more tanky.
Mallyx isn’t dead either. It doesn’t matter if you’re dead or not. Only the imprint you make on the fabric of time and space (mists) matters.
This actually makes me excited about making an ele. Sword would have been boring, warhorn is much cooler!
I really don’t get people like you. What’s so cool about warhorn? The same animations for most of the skills? The very similar skills warhorn has across the classes? The fact it’s usually some kind of buff/support weapon? Or the idea ele could summon storms, which is already does with 7 skills btw?
Ele has no true melee, dagger is short range PBAoE, scepter is midrange and trash. There’s seriously so little option in the mainhands and we got enough offhands that are great already. What sense does it make to give eles offhand?
That right there is definition of melee. Otherwise you can as well say warrior’s GS or axe oh etc is not melee but pbaoe :P
well , gj at kittening it up anet , cant belive we get such a useless piece of kitten , majority of ppl i talked to wanted the sword so bad and new we get that junk
and not to mention that fantasy wise it would make more sense that an ele can create a sword from fire or lighting to fight and a kittening warhorn belongs to the warriors , who the kitten thinks of a warhorn when you talk about elementalists
i was looking so much forward to the new weapon and new we get that junk , im incredible dissapointed and i think you have made a huge mistake anet
i simply lost any to motivation to play ele at all, guess i will spend my time on thief/mes from now on
Oh, you already know what weapon skills and utility skills the Tempest Specialisation will get? Please share us your inside knowledge!
its a kittening warhorn , useless piece of kitten , no matter the skills the sowrd would always be better
Your exaggeration is not funny even. Always? Hardly. Sword 1 hit once, sword 2 hit twice sword 3 hit thrice. whoop-e-dooo!
Warhorn – kill everyone on the map
Skills make a weapon. Give them a chance.
Ill wait for the Dev’s explanation. And if it’s bad, I’ll switch to main Revenant.
They have heavy armor, dual sword, and 30 skills
20 skills. 10 for each half of the bar.
Eles have 25 skills.
If quantity of skills available to you was your primary concern, you’d be sticking with Ele.
Engineer actually if # of skills counted :P Weapons 5, med kit 5, #1ukit 5, #2 ukit 5, #3 ukit 5, Mortart 5, 5 toolbelt skills. Total of 35 skills.
Skills for WH proposed in the OP are boring imo and too similar. I also don’t think Ele will have upkeep skills. Energy is a revenant thing.
WH Air – Translocating Thunder. Hit up to 3 enemies (chaining) for X dmg applying weakness & vulnerability and randomly switching their positions between them. Y CD.
Already would be cooler XD
I also looke through runes and Rage seemed the best option for Shiro.
Or run around with pet ele who who has trait to give Fury on fire blast finishers
As for sigils…With how Shiro works I kinda like Superior Sigil of Blood idea. Life steal + DMG coupled with same from shiro’s skills/heal/traits. Force and Accuracy will probably win though.
(edited by Killyox.3950)
Make it 1s cast with 50 energy cost that does what it does + resistance to allies and self + protection for caster.
@khenzo might be too must-have. Rather have them do it skill-by-skill. Shiro’s upkeep is already strong as it is.
Hello.
First, revenant was laughable weak before. I tried all semi viable necro builds against it, even stood still often and just tried to find a scenario where revenant would either win, or live long enough to be a worthy bunker/support.
The conclusion was maaaybe with buffs it could be a bad 2nd bunker. But now, GREAT BUFFS, they were needed. Look forward to test again.
Some concerns:
- weapon skill were introduced with lower CD exactly because no swapping. I also trust in faster casts, so please keep them balanced, maybe with energy – We dont want another Engie rifle#4
- Shiro#7 , how spammable the stunbreak evade is?
- Condi overload , i know everything needs a weakness, it just seems that you can often pressure the revenant into his defensive legend/set , and having free damage on him for next 10s
I do have necro salt however, basicaly perma vulnerabilty for higher normal hit siphons than necro with 2x traits (yes i know the math and that you do go higher with wells signets aoes, just saying it was a “uh sigh” moment.)
And Elite Jade 3s stun being a steroid version of previewed necro elite shout (scrap the cast shout on all but elite and lower CDs significantly please, also traited could be 15%+5+5+5… reduction not 7+7+7 for more constant scaling).
Sorry for derail but this thread is probably hotter than necro subforum
Rev still has no flexibility in which U skills he can choose. Also other classes can just use all of their U skills and get full benefit while Rev can’t because he is limited by Energy he has so he can’t fire his all U skills as well as use upkeep skill to full benefit. Weap skills also use Energy to they do limit to an extent how many U skills you can use in turn.
He always has 5 skills for X legend. Period. He cannot pick different skills. That is a huge advantage and has to be covered for in other places.
I think each can beat the other. /thread
Also these classes are nothing alike.
Yeah it could be potentially raised, might be a bit too weak atm.
It is too weak. Right now it’s GM trait that gives +10% crit chance that has heavy requirements of actually having a buff we have low/short access to. That’s subpar to many other professions’ traits that have lower tier majors/minors giving 10% crit chance to targets who have X condition on them or are within/without Y range.
So yeah, it should be a lot stronger or changed entirely.
Some comparisons
Engineer
- Firearms Minor “Hematic Focus” , +10% crit chance against bleeding foes (bleed on engie is easy)
Firearms Adept trait “High Caliber”, +10% crit chance to enemies within 240 range.
Warrior
Arms Master trait “Blademaster” +20% crit chance with swords vs bleeding foes (for sword war that’s always :P)
That’s just some of them
They are either minors, adept or master traits that are all better than Rev GM trait.
(edited by Killyox.3950)
Of course it is as it should be. That how a class should work.
I agree with poster above and am saying this as someone who plays Engineer since the very first Closed Beta of GW2.
It is bad.
/15chars :P:P:P
That’s still bad. Doesn’t leave any options tbh. What if I don’t want to be support? On engie/war I can be full dmg focused. Here I can be at most 50% dmg focused:P
They already said they don’t want tablet to feel like a pet with following.
Correct, I know they can fix it, but while things stay the course, Shiro is just gonna pigeon hole kids into one build.
That’s not a profession-specific thing. Every class has a “Pidgeon-holed” build for PvE. It’s called the meta. The solution will be from content that can’t be just burned through with Zerker builds.
Also, this isn’t a given for PvP. Plenty of PvP builds aren’t centered around power-based DPS.
Not really. Other classes have other options which may not be as good but are often still good. No such thing with Rev atm.
I think a lot of people underestimate just how powerful the hammer can be too. It’s not the fastest weapon, but if you play it right it hits like a truck, especially if you use skill 2 correctly (I can’t recall the name). It is a 2 second recharge skill with 1200 range, and the further you are the more devastating this aoe attack is to enemies. I was hitting 4-6k at max range and with only having to wait 2 seconds again, it can be quite deadly.
Swords wont’ be the only option for damage, and remember you can always change your offhand seeing as we don’t know all the skills yet.
It doesn’t have 2s recharge. It doesn’t hit all that strong too and how often are you at 1200 ? any less and it does a lot less dmg and in melee it’s like auto attack. It also often bugs out not doing any dmg at all.
Seriously. Dwarf + Demon + Centaur stances are very group focused as far as utilities go. The way I see it it’s Support, Support and… Support legends.
Ventari is already Full 24/7 heal/support. Why do you inflate support skills Anet for revenant? Dwarf stance skills are also too focused on group with #7, #8 and #10. Same for demon stance with pulling conditions from allies.
Make at least Mallyx more selfish (like Mallyx should be).
ATM it’s
Mallyx – support
Ventari – full support
Jalis – support
Shiro – dps
Hammer- wannabe dmg but is low dmg
Mace&Axe – good concept, bad execution, it’s weak
Staff – support
sword/sword – dps
See the issue ? Limited and pigeonholed into support too much. Out of the 4 legends that are right now whichever you pick you will always have at least 1 support legend :P
There’s nothing more amazing or exciting in this world than commanding your pet rock 24/7.
Must be the chain of thought @anet :P
I feel Demon Stance Utility skills are too supporty. Too much support in Revenant. 3 out of 4 legends are support as far as utility skills go.
I was so disappointed that Mallyx’s Elite skill transferred 1 condition stack. As in I had 6 bleeds and it transferred only 1 stack of bleed. I had 8 stacks of vulnerability and it transferred only 1 stack. MEH. BIG BIG MEH.
I am also very underwhelmed.
No weapon swap due to utilities. That’s ok but you always have 50% of your utilities equipped because of having 2 legends and even though you have theoretically more than other classes you have far less flexibility because they are fixed. You can’t mix them like other classes do and that of itself is prohibiting.
Next up is how weapons and legends work compared to other classes. For example Warrior can DPS with Swords, Greatsword, Axes, Rifle, Longbow etc. Revenant pretty much can only DPS with Swords and Shiro Tagachi legend. Other Legends & weapon options are simply bad from DMG perspective. You want dmg? You need swords, period.
I also dislike how 1 of our legends will always be some sort of support. Mallyx is support so is Jalis and Ventari. Demon + Mace/Axe is weak and so is condition dmg it does compared to pretty much every other class. DD part of it is also weak.
I feel mostly underwhelmed because I had hopes for very flexible and adapting class that supports many playstyles. What we got is severely limited class with limited options and playstyles. Unless they tune Skill Coefficients for other weapons so they CAN be played more DPSish it will be boring and rather unfair.
With Engie I can make DPS/burst rifle build, condi pistol build, FT build, Nades like always, Bombs etc. Lots of options for support builds as well as DMG builds. Nothing of the sort here.
Because of how limited his options are I would like ANet to up power of skills that Revenant has. The profession already sacrifices a lot for the sake of utilities costing energy (and yet some STILL have CD! How long until they put 5-20s CD on utilities and thus kill the entire concept of energy and flexibility with them?). I want weapons to pack more OOMPH! No weapon swap and just 5 skills with no kits or attunements? Seriously ANet, pack a little more punch and mechanics into these skills because the price Rev pays for what he has is too high for what he gets.
Utilities are supposed to be Revenants strong point but they feel very limited in what they do and some of their costs are rather high for what they do.
Instead of being the second/third most flexible class like I expected it to be it looks like it’ll be the most or almost the most limited or rather confined class.
Traits are one of the worst in the entire game. I hope they fix revenant because with things looking the way they are if he is not fixed before HOT I expect at least 2 years before it will get major problems solved.

The laziest elite ever.
I disagree with op. Vastly prefer current look to what op proposes.
It makes burning on staff sorta function. It’s so low compared to d/d that it makes you realize how much Staff needs improvements.
d/d is high risk high reward. Staff is like low risk and high reward all things considered.
Of course it would be ele’s that make a threat about nerfing themselves…
Anyway, my ideas:
- Burning: completely remove burning from Engineers, Necros and Mesmers. Make it an exclusive damaging condition for Eles and Guardians. As long as Necros, Engis and Mesmers can put out almost ALL the damaging conditions on top of burning, while Eles and Guardians have nothing else besides burning (you can’t really stack bleeding as an ele and if you try to you can’t stack burning, both in the same build/ at the same time aren’t possible). As long as this doesn’t change burning can never be balanced. It will either be OP for engi/mesmer/necro and a viable choice for condition builds for Ele/Guard like it is now, or it will be balanced for engi/mes/nec while underpowered for us like it was before the big patch.
One of the worst ideas I’ve recently read. Nothing screams BURN like enginees does. Engie was always burn heavy since the beginning and had the most ways to apply burn.
Mortar is still good (fields are awesome tbh) and bomb kits is strong as well. I still got runes of strength + HGH on engie that works really nice.
For a change I don’t play with nades now (except underwater since often you get 4(!) grenades).
As we heard in POI regarding changes. Yet it doesn’t seem to bethe case. Shrapnel does not proc from Pistol #1 at all. Ever. I haven’t tried other traits like +dmg to vuln and explo does +x% more dmg but this one thing I did try today:P
Bug or stealth nerf?
If you are some oddball that liked the look of the hobosacks, well no fear! There is a backpiece for you! Remember the old backpiece you had an option to get just from creating an engineer? The Universal Multi-Tool pack is here to rescue you from ever looking cool! Yes with this old backpiece that no one used, you too can impress your hipster friends with how “ironic” your unpopular backpiece is!
Create a level 1 engineer today to get your Universal Mulit-Tool pack!
Seriously, all you people that complain that you liked the hobosack, how do you forget that this exists?
Also:
…Anet can’t just knee jerk “fix” that one like they did with hobosacks….
Um….. what!?
“Knee jerk fix!?” It took us 3 flipping years to get them to remove the hobosack, that is as far from a “knee jerk fix” as you can get!
Trying to be a smartbehind (a** got filtered) but failing at it eh ?
It doesn’t take an engineer (pun intended) to know that each kit had different hobo-sack and not just 1 universal skin like lv 1 engie.

did you attack anything after for them t pick new target?
I am with the OP. I liked how unique our backs were. I don’t really like backpack pieces anyways and was happy to have unique ones fitting with the class and what I was using at the time.
If there was an option to select one or the other to use it would be awesome.
I actually liked my hobo-sacks a lot more than what we have now and am sad to see them go :P
There is pretty much no chance for engie having the type of signets like other classes. Why would AN give us signets for elite spec. Us, a class based on technology and invention. There is no point to it.
And yes, signets are magical in nature also warrior ones. Being a warrior doesn’t mean you cannot use magical items. Engie could too but lore wise AN wants them to focus on tech not magic.
(edited by Killyox.3950)
Balthazar….yup, I said that :P Human God of War. +i got skins :P
IIRC only Engie doesn’t have signets and thus far Revenant. Engie is non-magic class and signets are boring and wouldn’t fit him seeing as cool as he is + toolbelt.
If anything I rather expect Signets to be a part of Shiro Tagachi Legend with unique workings compared to other signets or Glint Legend rather than engie.
Signets just don’t fit engie thematically period.
probably ~30-35€
Haters gonna hate, whiners gonna whine.
Just because HOT doesn’t fit someone’s idea of what is a full expansion does not mean it isn’t.
We know very little still and people are already jumping the gun.
100% chance thief will not get GS now.
If anything I would bet on Rifle or Mace.
Given that Ventari was a peace loving centaur, I don’t see staff as being high in dps.
The faster a conflict is resolved, the sooner peacefulness can resume.
What’s more peaceful than an adversary incapacitated by a friendly whack up side the head with a big stick? :-D
Considering Ventari wouldn’t life a finger to even save his own home/life in Prophecies, I’m actually surprised that we can fight at all while in his stance.
Perhaps that is built in. Maybe the entire time we channel him he complains and objects to our killing and using his power in battle. Similar to how Mallyx doesn’t like us using his power based on his dialog. The legends don’t seem to have a direct choice in whether we use their power or not.
They do have some choice. Like Mallyx powers hurting us a bit but not much. Torment Mallyx by abusing his powers. Oh the irony
Spear is most likely underwater option and nothing related to Glint at all.
If only I could trade SC2:LotV beta for GW2:HoT. Not much luck recently with alphas/betas :P
Thanks for the information.
Anyways, staff went to ranger, so neither war nor thief is getting it.
Again, that is speculation. Anet has never confirmed that two elite specializations can not get the same weapon. Although I do think it is unlikely that the thief and warrior will get a staff with this expansion.
I have a feeling thief will either get Mace or Rifle and warrior Pistol.
Revenant just doesn’t make sense to me. I feel like they’re going to be pigeonholed into using two complimenting legends rather than whatever combo you want because of the lack of weapon swapping.
Like, it wouldn’t make sense to use Mallyx and Ventari, because Staff has support skills. And even if I did find a way for it to work, what gear stats would I seek? Settler’s?
Or what if I wanted Ventari and Shiro (assumed to be high dps)? What weapon would I use? My Ventari skills would be useless because I wouldn’t run staff with Shiro, and my (assumed DPS) swords would be useless with Ventari because they’re not support? And again, what gear stats do I wear?
This has been my issue with the Revenant since introduction. Am I looking at it incorrectly?
Why would ventari skills be useless? Don’t confuse legend skills with weapon skills.
Mallyx + Ventari also has sense. A lot of it actually. You can support with MAllyx by pulling conditions from your allies and sending them out to enemies.
Same with Jalis + Ventari, stability and protection to allies + ventari skills.
That’s a good point, however your gear choice would likely be centered around support, thereby making your condition damage negligible. Or if you center on conditions, your support skills won’t be potent. I don’t want to be lugging around a set of gear for every single stat/legend combo that an encounter may call for.
You can’t be good at everything. Jack of all trades and master of none or a focused build.
Not everything has to be high dps power weapon to have a use.
I’m curious about that new AI they developed. If they’re smart, it’s quite possible that we will see a need for bonus healing and support in PvE beyond reflect walls.
AGAIN….. NOT asking for ALL weapons to be high DPS and AGAIN I’ve said weapons have/need rolls, Axe/Mace are Condi on Rev so far.
AGAIN I just want STAFF to be the Zerk choice of weapon NOT all weapons.
I want sword/sword to be DPS choice. So it’s your want vs mine. Meaning ANet will do what they want. And there is absolutely no reason to make Staff associated with Ventari a DPS weapon when there will be Shiro as a legend which is the damage powerhouse in lore. That would be unlorish :P
Revenant just doesn’t make sense to me. I feel like they’re going to be pigeonholed into using two complimenting legends rather than whatever combo you want because of the lack of weapon swapping.

I don’t think so. Shiro will most likely be sword/sword combo seeing as that’s his thing. I still can see his legend working with staff altough at the price of damage.
This all depends on skills he gets. Remember however Shiro was categorized as an assassin so we can expect more Shadowsteps and cool effects. Revenant is the only profession besides Thief that gets shadowsteps
