This all has been already done and discusse with similar arguments and data as in that post.
Thing with bleeds is that they can last very long. And with no cap and very long bleeds it may be too strong. As a DOT it ignores armors and protection boon, direct damage is reduced by both and by a whole lot too.
2 necros can easily stack on someone 20+ bleeds and epidemic it to others giving others 20 stacks and if there was no cap you could throw another epidemic giving another 20 stacks for a total of 40 stacks.
Math in that post is all fine and dany but it does not take into account class mechanics, how skills interact and so on.
Preventing that 4k direct dmg is easier because you can CC source, you can have armor reduce it, you can have protection up etc. You can LOS DD attacks.
Once dot is on it stays even if you cc source, even if you got armor and protection up it deals same damage. It often lasts long and is easier to apply and spread. The only protection is limited condition removal.
I think Burn deserves more attention from bleed anyways.
Largos don’t fit as a playable race imo. They are nomads and loners. They have master – single apprentice relationship (GW2 starwars wth?).
I would like hylek or quaggan haha
Kodan are possible too and even Tengu.
They most likely have it on their list but it is bottom of the list most likely. There are more pressing matters i dare say
There is no mob tagging in Gw2. You do not “own” the mob you tagged. You need to do even the slightest dmg to be counted towards the loot.
http://uk.ign.com/articles/2010/07/14/guild-wars-2-the-ranger
You just had to throw the quote he made in google
well…“Pact Shotgun”
I use healing turret because it’s easy to deploy and detonate to heal you and everyone around you. The medkit is way too clunky for me. It forces me to stop fighting in order to heal. I find that if you drop it down close to an enemy and detonate, it actually deals good damage(this is without the pushback trait which I don’t bother with). I’ve seen over 1000 damage on regular mobs, but I haven’t been able to test it out on other players yet in WvW.
Yea the detonate is a nice add-on!
But problem is after you detonated it, you do not have it any more. And if hou don’t detonate it, the turret (all turrets in generl actually, except thumper) breaks in 10 seconds…I don’t bother with the overcharge on the healing turret and not detonating the turret right away won’t let you summon a new one in 20 seconds. Regen is all you get for keeping it up. The water field detonate gives regen and there’s the toolbelt skill for more regen to replace it. Just treat the healing turret as any 20 second healing skill.
Regen comes from using turret as it places regen, aoe healing gives direct healing on blasting it
Med Kit.
Traited for lowest CD.
Has Fury/Swiftness/Cond. Removal
Can heal others and yourself when your heal is on CD
Not a RNG skill and is 100% reliable
Healing Turret
1/2 cast instead of 1s+
20s CD, 14s CD if you pick it up, med kit has 14s only with 30 in tools
You can cleanse conditions with cleansing burst in AOE
You get long regeneration
You can combo it with itself for Area Healing for 1,2k+ depending on healing power
You can detonate it with other fields for stealth, swiftness, might etc
it has very high base heal
it has aoe regen toolbelt skill that is also combo field wate you can blast for aoe healing
Tbh Healing Turret is the best untraited healing skill engineer has and one of the best in the entire game.

I must say that you are rather wrong in your perception of engineer.
We are actually middle-front liners which AN said itself and is against wat you just said.
Overcharged shot, Blunderbuss, Jump Shot are middle-close skills. Flamethrower is middle range, toolkit is short range, bomb kit is short range, Even elixir gun is more middle range than long due to skills.
The only long range option, true option, are grenades.
My perception is not wrong. My response was implying the hypothetical situation that Engis are in melee range, which is not outlandish in any way, are not reliant on gap closers. Whether someone decides to go melee or medium range is up to the player, even if it’s not the most efficient way to play.
I was not replying to Gap Closers part of your post as I am with you on it.
I was replying to this:
On top of that, Engis aren’t designed to be in the midst of front-line battles.
Ty Safer for clarifying that with an actual quote. But im having a hard time finding that quote in an interview. could you give the source because all I could find is this http://www.arena.net/blog/eric-flannum-fields-your-ranger-questions
Remember: you can make more arrows if you really need to, but you can’t make more gunpowder out in the wilderness.
You could but it would take a lot of poop and time:)
And to build up on what you already said, you can retrieve arrows from dead bodies while bullets become useless.
You can poison Arrow’s head or set it on fire or attach a line to it and so on.
Crossbows would be awesome. I just think rangers lack in the ranged department really when that’s what they are supposed to be specialized in. Your a wise one Killyox, you make some good posts. I just wish you saw where i’m coming from.
I do see where you are coming from. I don’t mind rifles but I think there are ways to give you guys something same/similar while staying true to the idea of the class. If in functionality crossbow skills would be the same as in rifle (not name wise but mechanic/effects wise) would it make you a difference?
Crossbows also have a lot more potential to be cooler looking than rifles and you could share it with thieves as a weapon type.
Still whether it will be rifle or something else I wouldn’t expect a new weapon before an expansion.
Hey
Not sure if this has been discussed before, there have been lots of posts about mounts/flying mounts but not sure about this.
I like the idea of waypoints, they get you round the area of the map but instead of just teleporters why not have some sort of taxi/transport service like a flightpath/cart. Sure it’s slower but in my opinion it gives the world a more open feel travelling around rather than just looking at a loading screen.
before anyone response with ’don’t use waypoints then’ I like using them as they are a good way to get you around the map, just the loading screen takes you out of the open world a little bit
Game wasn’t designed with flying in mind so it could get nasty in some places and you might see things you should not. Tbh i don’t mind.
Waypoints are faster;p
If anything i would rather have Rangers get Crossbows or Hand Crossbows in XPack.
This is so simple yet missing.
Can we get the ability to tag PMs and remove them in number? It is very tiresome to remove PM , page reloads, remove pm, page reloads instead of “Mark all” “remove selected” and ability to tag PMs we want to remove.
I think this really needs to be put in.
Why would anyone want this since it’s already a F2P model once you buy the account?
Some people don’t want to spend $50 on a game they are not sure their machine can run properly. Others are too lazy to go to a shop and buy it and others just don’t have a card to buy it online
Since GW2 is rated +12, there won’t be a problem with the audience downloading the game.GW2 is not a F2P is a B2P
Personal experience:
Tera and AION paid – didn’t care at all
Tera and AION F2P – download it, didn’t like it, uninstalledTSW paid – didn’t care at all
TSW B2P – interested but not spending the money on it
TSW F2P?? – will download to see how it worksAoC paid – didn’t care at all
AoC F2P – downloaded, liked, bought game + expansions and 6 month subscription, mounts, costumes – now, just F2P no subFireFall – registered, got beta access, liked, bought
The general idea is: There are lots of MMO games in the market today and players are rarely focused only on one MMO no matter how good it is. To attact more player to buy the game or use the cash -shop you need to give them a chance to try it themselves. If they like it, they will stay, if they don’t they will just leave. But if they payed money for a game they thought is good but they are not satisfied with it , the bad reputation will go amongst their friends and from potential buyers they become certain non-buyers
A_net advertised this game on FB and Tweeter based on the GW1 fans enthusiasm before the game launched. Now, as more people had the chance to see the game on their own, the enthusiasm isn’t at the same high rates as before.
Letting players enjoy the game for free, the number of potential buyers will grow.
I know, A-Net doesn’t need more players to their game because they have a steady fan base now, but having more populated servers will do better for the game.
B2P falls under B2P with the sole exception you need to purchase the game once.
You know, there is stuff like categories, subcategories etc. Animals, mammals, monkeys, gorillas etc Gorilla then falls under monkeys and all above. B2P falls under F2P.
Here is a suggestion on how to make GW2 into a F2P game:
- 2 character slots instead of 5 with the possibility of buying more till maximum 5
- 5 out of 8 professions available with no paid option for unlocking the other 3 ( no thief, guardian or necromancer)
- 3 out of 5 races (no humans or norns) with no paid option for unlocking the other 2
- no chat access except the party channel
- no guild joining or creating ability
- no mail sending possibility, just receiving
- limited access to LFG tool when available
- no access to explorable paths in dungeons
- higher taxes with 25% for teleporting, TP listing, armor repairs
- prices with 25% higher for the TP gem items
- no WvW access
- limited sPvP access for only 15 matches / day
- option to upgrade to standard and deluxe edition unlocking all the existing options
No offense but this is pretty terrible as it stands. That’s a self kneejerk if arena would ever do it.
GW2 already has the best and most player friendly F2P/B2P system so far. No need to change it. They just need to make things more interesting.
Still, what’s bad about buy once and game for life? Just buy it or screw it
How does a Bow needs a metal? You can make it just from wood and hair from horse’s tail.
Obviously you haven’t made a rare bow in the Huntsman crafting category where you have to use METAL to craft them….oh and why is the rifle and the bow in the huntsman crafting category oh because they are used for hunters “Rangers”. Also how can you say what Anet wants it to be unless you are a developer or one of the lore writers? Did they tell you personally “We want the rangers to be forest survivalist type of class that relies on nature tiself.”? As far as Anet goes they have always given the community what they desired. This the rifle should be no different. I really wish the 30+ people I had a discussion with in map chat last night that agreed they should have rifles were all avid forum users such as myself. But alot of people remain quiet and just go with the flow. And then there are the people that just disagree with every suggestion they read just because its now WoWy enough or D&Dy enough.
I pointed out a flaw in your sentence. Why you ask? Because you said what is NEEDED to make a bow. Metal is not needed, you can make a fine bow without any of it. I am not talking about crafting professions because i already made clear that this and some armors don’t really stand in line with idea of ranger at all. Flaming armor from COF is not good for forest;p
ANet gives community what they desire but only
- if it benefits the game overall
- if it doesn’t hit their pocket
example: I am sure everyone would like to have 20 char slots for free if given option but that will not happen
Anyways like I mentioned before I don’t have anything against it personally. Right now you shouldn’t expect new weapons before Expansion. They must focus on existing weapons and skills and need something for expansion as well.
+1 because I think that this should be staple feature of every MMO in existance and lack of it is a huge oversight on AN part.
Sorry, I had to go to work.
Anyhow whoever is curious about this, the answer is..
No, you will not lose your progress.
After I delete every character and transferred, My Laurel, Gem, and my Account Medal including sPvP Rank remained the same.
If you don’t mind making another 80 from a scratch and gather all the mats and all the Karam you need, this might be an option for you.
Cheers.
What about items in your bank? since bank is account-wide as well do you keep the stuff in there?
I would gamble that the answer is; yes, you keep all there is. Might be worth depositing everything of value
I went to a server while it was free to go back and forth once every seven days and got stuck their when it was changed to gems. Now I am on a server that is suboptimal and makes my gameplay experience less enjoyable. Their should be some way to be able to switch servers again without using gems.
Why? I mean it was clear when you will not be able to switch anymore long before it made live.
And what do you need to switch server for? For everything else besides WvWvW there is Guesting which is free.
i am surprised there’s no LFG channel in game;p
You’re right that we do have a lot of currencies. We certainly know we could improve the experience here
Make currencies Tab for easier tracking of them and seperate them clearly by pve pvp and wvwvw.
You guys need in-game database. Clicking laurels should give me info i need like where are vendors located how to get them etc.
- If there will be dueling system on any level?
- If there will be pvp items for points which will make you more powerful?
- If there will be pvp for any levels (like 10-20, 20-30.. 70-80) with possibility to use PVE items?
You don’t need dev to answer as all of this is well known
- Dueling will not be anytime soon in the game because devs are reluctant and the only exception is if tremendous amount of people wishes for it but it’s not a priority
- there will not be, ever, items in PvP that make you more powerful than others; the name of the game is skill>items and the playing field is equal in terms of gear
- You can do this in WvWvW already but if you mean a’la battleground there will not be such because when you enter pvp lobby you are automatically leveled to 80 with access to all skills and gear same as everyone else (power wise)
They should’ve been able to use rifles, yes. Rifles don’t fit the “nature” theme? Tell any outdoorsman that and watch them laugh. Rangers are hunters, and hunters have used longbarrel guns for as long as they’ve existed. It’s stupid that rangers can’t. I’ve thought so since the beginning. Doesn’t matter now, of course.
Is this so hard to realize? Listen…My SpearGUN doesn’t fit into the “Nature” class.. but why does the ranger have it? Oh yeahhhhh its ranged and the Ranger prefers the ranged weapons…. Oh and the Bow’s???? Don’t get me started…… The Bows are made of wood and oh oh oh oh wait for it METAL oh oh oh isn’t that against the “Nature” aspect? Oh and wait there’s more…..you reading? The Sorrows Embrace medium armor…….hmmmm that doesnt look to natural to me….. I can go on and on and on and on. Bottom line is Rangers are hunters, which if you don’t believe me then why are most Norn hunters rangers???? There are only 2 out of 5 professions that can use a rifle, warrior and engineer. that leaves the rifle as an unbalanced weapon that needs to be added to another profession, preferably ranger. Oh and btw rangers are also MARKSMEN *gasp. Pull yourself out of the D&D book. This is not D&D they don’t get penalized for having metal on their armor or using guns. If you want that then I suggest another game. Go eat some Cheetos and drink some more Mtn Dew because your Magic Missile just got cast at the darkness.
How does a Bow needs a metal? You can make it just from wood and hair from horse’s tail.
Also Ranger per idea of it in GW2 are meant to use whatever else they can make or get. I can understand why they decided for this even if some armors don’t look part a ranger. Bow makes less sound than gun. When you hunt something you rather stay silent to not scare your prey and every other animal in 5-10km radius.
I wouldn’t mind ranger’s having rifles at all. But ANet wants them to be forest survivalist type of class that relies on nature tiself (spirits, troll unguent, traps, beasts).
Oops, my fault. mischanged him with the Koda. You’re right, he’s naturally a Norn as hes standing in Hoelbrak..
However.. all this lore stuff that is bonded between these two is exactly what leaded me to this mistake, that you can partwise tell not anymore, what belongs to Norn and what belongs to Kodan…
Anyhow despite my mistake I still dislike that NPC’s name anyways >.> Lol, such uncreativeness is truly epic in itself naming NPC’s after zoo animal’s of RL…
Norn are bonded with the old norse mythology in their design, thats in my opinion the way how they should get named also.Eir Stegalkin is the best example for this, as Eir is an old norse name, same as Sif from GW1 or Skaald Stjarna, where the next example lies in ,that they are tied to the old norse mytholgy, because only there get Bards/Minstrels/Troubadors called as “Skaalds”
However, thats an other topic… and I’m only a “human”.. Humans make mistakes you grumpy Norn :P It’s not a doom of the world to not know perfectly all the time your culture xD / hides in RP ^^
And how is Knut Whitebear not norse-like? PArdon but just because they are based on norse mythology does not mean it has to 100% reflect that. Norse were humans Norns are not.
You don’t pay attention to the story if you don’t know what is kodan’s and what is not.
Kodans sail on their huge sanctuaries but have been pushed south by forces of jormag, where norn already were. So pretty much their sanctuaries are still theirs, hoelbrak and so on is norn’s and everything else is free for fall as seen through fighting everywhere.
MAking game that makes money > making e-sport game that does not make money.
GW2 first and foremost is an investition that is expected to generate revenue.
Two-handed Axes please!! Lots of MMOs don’t utilize these amazing weapons!! I’d get this as a legendary so fast, would make my Juggernaut sad!
Confirmed for expansion pretty much
If anything I’d love to see a way to remove the pet from my Ranger at certain times, for example when fighting some bosses in Dungeons that kill pets in seconds, making them near useless, and instead get another kind of boost to compensate. Why can’t a ranger go full out with a Bow for example?
Well, he can’t because he is intended to be GW2 pet class;p
They need some permanent speed buffs like the Thief , Ranger , and Necromancer .
We have those since forever… 10x better than necro, thief and ranger.
Like alfista.6094 said, I’d not go with either as neither has a dedicated graphics card. You want a computer with a dedicated graphics card by nVidia or ATI.
I have to disagree with Oreimo.8435 on discouraging you from Windows 8. It is a good operating system and is better optimized for power usage than Windows 7. I’ve been running GW2 on Windows 8 since the release preview with zero issue.
I’ll also note that, while 7200 RPM drives are preferred, they are more difficult (and more expensive) to find in laptops. A 5400 RPM drive (2.5" drive standard speed) should be sufficient.
Searching Newegg provided two decent results. A Lenovo and an Acer. While the Acer does have an Intel processor instead of an AMD, I’d lean towards the Lenovo as it has a superior video card with twice the video RAM. That and Lenovo is known for better build quality than Acer.
Windows 8 is terrible. Period. Game developers agree with it, Steam owners agree with it (Gabe Newell)and pretty much everyone i know who has W8 agrees with it.
Even MS knows W8 is a flop.
Ok i know little about labtops and currently i play gw2 on a i3 HP pavilion g series. I run GW2 on really low settings and it sucks because this is a beautiful game. So im looking to upgrade with a budget of $600 dollars and have narrowed my search to 2 labtops and need help deciding which will run gw2 better.
If u find a better one plz let me know. Greatly appreciate it. Looking for some feedback.
You won’t get decent gaming laptop for $600.
Engis don’t need gap closers that require the player to “rush” to an opponent. That’s why Engis have CCs for. Immobilize every 10s on the rifle, is OP and gives more than enough time to close a gap with jump shot. When using the Tool Kit you have Magnet, which has 1200 range. Point being is that Engis don’t need a gap closer when we have so many other ways of stopping foes.
On top of that, Engis aren’t designed to be in the midst of front-line battles. Take a note from our sister class, the Thief, they use stealth to pop in and out of battle. Similarly, the Engi should be going in CC’ing the opponent, when trying to get in melee range, then using escape skills such as rocket boots and super speed. Admittingly, CC is more suited for keeping foes away from a distance, but it is still more than viable for close range encounters.
Superspeed is the Toolbelt utility from Slick Shoes. The description says that you move at “double” speed when using it.
What it does now: It grants you a speed buff with a special icon for 5 seconds but it is exactly as fast as swiftness which is really really weak and completely useless.
We have unlimited quickness already and a buff which lasts only for 5 seconds should really offer us the double speed or at least 166% for the 5 seconds. This would be the escape utility / gap closer which the engineer is really missing.
I guess this ability was made for exactly that purpose but somewhen while coding you made a limit at 33% speed and forgot that there was this special ability which should probably be about the same speed as the greatsword rush from guardian. It would be really nice if you fixed that issue. Actually that is a annoyance about my engineer that he doesn’t really have a gap closer.
Tooltip is not wrong. It’s simply not entirely true. You do run at double speed when in combat. While in combat you run a lot faster using double speed than while under swiftness effect.
Actually under “double speed” even if you have cripple effect on yourself you still run faster than someone with swiftness and no cripple effect.
Swiftness, combat, no cripple = you run at 133% speed
Double Speed, combat, cripple = you run at 133,33(3) speed:>
No cripple, combat, double speed = 200% speed
Perhaps it’s a bug or I’m merely bitter and/or paranoid, but… did ANet stealth nerf the aforementioned Med Kit ability? It used to remove several or all conditions, now it only cures one.
Well, if it is a nerf we all saw it coming, all the complaints about engineers steamrolling other classes, all the elementalists re-rolling the real versatility class without a damage malus.
Hate to break it to you but it’s been like this for month and months now. This is intended and part of the ongoing balancing process. Previously condition removals were too strong.
and transfer to another server, will I lose everything such as Laurel?
Thanks
- You will not lose stuff you already had unlocked
you will not transfer for free because you have already chosen server, whether or not you have any characters on it has no meaning
Rangers do not need rifles. It would not hurt if they had them but need them? Nah. Class is fine without it. And according to AN philosophy Ranger is a guy who is closer in tune with nature, survivalist type that uses whatever he himself can make from readily available things to him.
It is overpowering the pet itself does up to 4k damage while the ranger simply stacks up 20 bleeds poison burning cripple immobilize , having the ability to swap pets mid combat stops the other player from even getting close to the ranger. not even tank builds work against ranger because ranger simply focuses on condition while pet does the melee being able to swap your pets at anytime is no diferent than having a never dieing pet.
Sorry but:
- you are wrong
- you don’t make any sensible arguments
- you disregarded every contrary argument
Pets are fine. It’s you who does not understand how balancing works and Ranger design (where their dps is balanced around having pet).
I see no further reason to have this discussion going on as you make no effort to take in any arguments.
@OP
The way you present your case won’t make you friends. My advice is to write down your problem properly and ask for questions guidance.
- 1800 gems is the amount you need to move to very populated servers as the Gem pricing of transfer depends solely on target server’s population. The higher pop the higher cost. Low pop is 500 gems for example
- There is Guesting feature which you can use to change servers temporarily. You can guest to 2 servers at a time every 24 hours. You will be then able to transfer between them and your own.
- your server has no impact on anything other than WvWvW. Changing server has only sense if what you wish to change is WvWvW environment. For everything else it is simply not needed. You can sPvP, explore, do dungeons and so on on the server you guest to.
The NECROMANCER should be able to raise dead. They should be able to make a ZOMBIE ARMY. Have up to 5 to 10 raised zombies walking with them on their adventure…
Very constructive post.
beaten to death – topic that is
This issue is srsly annoying , i dunno about everyone else but i would like to have a character of each class without having to delete others that iv made.
Gold -> Gems -> Character Slot
I know, easy right? That’s how i bought my bank tabs, inventory tabs and char slots.
Today 1 slot is around 17g. That’s not much tbh.
I would like to never have to pay for anything in life but hey, we can’t have everything we want? Differnce is you can have slots with gold to gem conversion.
(edited by Killyox.3950)
i throw out butter or sell it to vendor. Too many to hold
PS
When you learn Cooking you are informed it requires more time and resources than other professions. Thus your comparison to Armorsmithing is invalidated.
While what you say is true the whole system has been designed with the idea of same boons and conditions.
You would have to modify a ton of skills especially condition removals because removing 1 condition can now remove 25 bleed stacks stacked by 4 ppl while with 4 different effects you would just remove 1 making it rather weak.
Contrary to that removing more conditions (if they buffed number of those removed to cover for more unique conditions) would be especially powerful against single foes as it would remove in turn too many.
Population has an impact but not to the degree you think it does.
Let’s assume server has 5000 players and 1000 actively participate in WvW
Other has 6500 players but only 500 participating actively in WvW
that
Why not they give something like the laures for Daily PVP and Monthly PVP + having to complete their wvw achievement tab?
For me it´s will make a person more oriented about wvw and pvp and more apt to command a raid.
because wvwvw is not considered pvp by anet ;p
The most stupid point is even, they named one of the npcs after a german polar bear baby from a zoo, ridiculous – Knut Whitebear and totally contradictory to the general way of how Kodans name themself …
You talk about things being stupid and you post this? WOW, just WOW.
What has Knut Whitebear anything to do with Kodan ?
Knut Whitebear = Norn, leader of Hoelbrak
its a bit overpowering for rangers to be able to swap pet at any time considering the pets hit even harder than the rangers themselves at least make it so that rangers can’t swap pets during combat.
Play ranger before typing cluelessly imo. They can’t swap it any time, if pet dies and they swap there is 60s cd instead of 20s CD, pets are papermade and Pet + ranger = 100% dps value other classes.
Ranger without pet = lower damage than other classes. Ranger’s dmg is balanced around having pet.
So kindly expand your knowledge before making wrong assumptions
First I wish to say I am fully aware it would be a balancing nightmare as well as daunting task with a lot of work.
Having that out of our way i gotta say it would be cool to be able to modify Weapon Skills with runes so they get a little different working.
Imagine Thief’s Scorpion Wire. Normally you pull enemy to yourself. With some rune added you could perhaps pull yourself to the enemy instead.
Doubt it will ever make it but it’s another thing that could make things more interesting.
Perhaps adjusting Traits? Combine minor and major traits, have them take place of minor traits which would be now choosable instead of fixed and hold Major for weapon skills modification?
Or majors for weapon skill modification and minors for utility skills modification?
Food for thought;p
